So she was there 45. Stand up right now. How do you want me to do this? Saturday, August 10th, 2024, Los Cruus, New Mexico. Police received a call reporting an armed robbery at a restaurant located in the 2300 block of East Lman Avenue. According to initial reports, a man and woman had carjacked a woman at gunpoint and then fled the scene in her vehicle. With a full vehicle description, it would not be long for officers to locate the suspects. And within minutes, a pursuit was underway. I'm Tyler and this is your daily dose of [Music] crime. Where did they go? It's on that side. Give me some units to the east side of 25 by the underpass area through the green. Yeah, they're suspects in an armed robbery. Yeah, they did. Do you know you didn't see them at all? Right. You did. Watch out. Watch out. Watch out. Did anybody see him go that way? I didn't see them. We don't know. I saw there was a person in there, but they probably took off. So, yeah, they're probably inside. Yeah, I know. I have officers did, but nobody saw them go this way. I did not see them get out. So, I see the passenger side is open. So, they took off that way. So, okay, please. Thank you. Okay. and nobody actually saw him get out and go east. The passenger side door in this car is open. Looks like they bailed into the canals. That's all I have at this time. Not far from the officers, the suspects had lost control of the vehicle and crashed. Taking advantage of the chaos, they then fled the scene on foot. Witnesses didn't see the pair run, but several reported the passenger door was left open. There were only two possible directions they could have gone, and officers were now faced with the task of tracking them down. But it wouldn't be easy. Or would it? So they can break off of this seat. There is a gun on the seat for 49. I do have a 1080 on the driver's side seat. It could rock, but can you see it right there? Yeah, there is at least one gun that we can see. Can you just see if there's maybe a second one cuz they both had one view. Do we need Do you think we need to expand a perimeter or just stay in place? I think we can stay in place and hold what we got. I don't think they went too far. How you doing? Just confirming. What do I have to the west? Have you heard Have you seen like a male and a female uh run through recently? No, I haven't. I No, I haven't. You haven't? Okay. Do you stay in this area or Yeah. Yeah. I just I live right there. Okay. Gotcha. Yeah. If you do, you don't mind g give us a call? Okay. All right. Appreciate it. You guys number have a good one. Oh, no worries, man. Appreciate it. Did you guys see the occupants of that vehicle run off anywhere? No, it's fine. Oh, no. English. I'm working a 17 westbound just over stole and how are you? Good. Thanks for asking. Did you by chance see the any occupants of that vehicle run this way? I didn't see anybody running. I ran that way to see if anybody needed help. Everybody was saying, "Does the girl get out? Is she okay? Where where did the girl go?" I don't know. I didn't see it. I would love to have been able to help you. Okay. Do you know anyone I did see it? No. Um there's a a black family on the corner there. Everybody was We're probably already talking to him. Yeah. So that's other than that I don't cuz I didn't even know it was a high-speed chase. I just thought there was an accident. No, it was Yeah, it was. And I was the medic, so I thought, you know. Okay. Yeah. Well, I appreciate it. Thank you. All right. Thank you, ma'am. Absolutely. Have a good day. You, too. Thank you. I appreciate it. Speaking with residents in the area, officers initially found no leads, but a short time later, a civilian approached and said he had seen a man climbing into a dumpster. It was just a matter of confirming whether it was one of the suspects. And based on the distance and timing, it seemed to be likely, or at least that's what the officers believed. 87, do you have range on the 17 to check that out or start trying to get a visual? Yeah, I'm already 7. Was that confirmed from the gas to RP that witness saw them run towards? Yeah, affirmed. So she was there, saw 45 happen and then seen them running east towards stand up right now. Circle down. Stand up right now. All right. Stand up. Stand up. Yeah. The 45 down. Okay. Keep your hands visible. So east and then south. You mean how do you want me to do it? Hands above your head. I guess so. Lift up the lid. You got the onore, Missouri with your knees. And then you got the one towards me. How do you want me to do this? Go on out. You're good, man. You're good. You're good. Hey, be cool with me. I'll be cool with you. All right. No, that's fine. Look like a little bit of facial hair. What is she wearing again? Sleeping though. Should be a black top. Tattoos on neck and arms. Just [Music] sleep. That's just my bag. I have some hygiene in it. That's it. Would you like to see my bag? 11:25. Start me a second. It's got a 1080 on them. Also, stay where exactly where you at. Got you, man. I'm sorry, man. I just need to sleep. I'm going to sit you. I just need in the dumpster. It's just a bag, bro. It's my hygiene. Okay. Well, there's a firearm in there also. No, there's no firearm. Okay. Go ahead and sit up for me. I'm going to send you up. Okay. Okay, bro. I was just sleeping at That's my bag. It has hygiene in it and stuff, bro. I'm homeless, bro. That's not a firearm, bro. I don't know what it is, bro. Dude, that is broken. That's my house, bro. I don't know if it's That's my hygiene bag, bro. You have an ID on yourself? I don't. The man inside the dumpster claimed that he was simply sleeping there. Physically though, he matched the suspect's description from the robbery. He repeatedly told officers he hadn't done anything, that he wasn't armed, and that he had simply been sleeping, but none of it added up. If he wasn't one of the suspects, then why was he in a dumpster on his own accord? Description of the male subject. I was just sleeping, bro. I bagged in there. All I got is hiking, man. If you look at it, I got my jacket for at night and my hygiene. What's your name? Zachary. If I check, is that really good? Yes, bro. Z H A R Y. Zachary. Yes. I'm I'm telling, bro. Dude ran by. He threw something in the dumpster. I looked at it. I looked at it. Looks like a broken BB gun. What's your last name? Babits. Babz. Out of the dumpster. Out of the I was sleeping in there. I was sleeping in there. That's it. My bag is in there, bro. All I have is my hygiene. That's it. That's a pouch that I use to hold my flashlight like that. I know it's a holster. I don't have a gun, sir. Is there anything that's going to take my apartment at all? I don't do I was sleeping, man. No knives, nothing object. I'm telling you, a dude and a chick ran out of the thing right there. Went and threw something in there. I looked at it. I looked at it. He asked me if he could hide in there. I told him you Which way did he go? That way. Through the houses. Yeah. I I didn't really pay attention, bro. I was sleeping. I was tired. And he had what? Did he have any hair? He had a black I couldn't tell. He had a hat on. He had a hat on. Okay. But he had a black shirt or like he had a long sleeve on first. He had like a sweater. Yeah. Can I have him respond? He had a like a sweater like a long sleeve sweater and then underneath that he had like a black top and he ran that way. Mr. Babis, you want to stay still and get? Yes, sir. We're confirming that right now. Okay. Okay. All right. Face to your right. Okay. Look straight, please. No, no. Face to the right and look straight. There you go. Can you go to that? No. Face 180° behind there. Just like that. Thank you. I'm not too sure what exactly. Uh, okay. You threw something in there, bro. It looked like a broken. I didn't touch it. You're being detained. So I appreciate Go and have a seat. Understand? Thank you. Let's fix the air. Okay. Well, I just let him do the search warrant before we do anything. You get it for the dumpster or the bag? They're going to have to get it for the dumpster and then note the bag specifically on there. So, so usually I get it for the dumpster. It's like all the all all bags within the dumpster basically. Just a total, you know, just kind of like a car, like all the bags within the car or something. Yeah. So, like all the trash bags within the dumpster, anything sealed, any container, any box. I remember going over that, but um we only talked about if it was like for a resident residential dumpster and stuff like that. We we didn't go over one of these. Yeah, these fall into the same thing. There's case law on it was a hotel dumpster. It's kind of like that. It was outside in the hotel. I didn't even talk about that. Same thing. Yeah. So, the man identified as Zachary Babbittz had denied all accusations and became visibly agitated during the arrest. His answers were inconsistent and he dodged several key questions, prompting officers to verify his identity and possible involvement in the robbery through other [Music] means. I'll probably have to have to take pictures of this dumpster. What is the address? I'll take a picture of the address. I already got some of the dumpster. You good? Moving to the front. Yeah, it hurts my hand. I might put your holster. Oh, yeah. It's there's nothing in it, bro. It's just a pouch, you know. But you have any injuries on your on your leg or anything? Yeah, my ankle. my left ankle and my this finger right here is infected severely. We're going to get you treated in a little bit. So, regardless, they're still going to the hospital. [Music] You have any eye appointment or anything? That's all it is. My watch took it off. I don't want it to my watch. That's all it is. You have anything else on you? No, you can search. Pat me down. Search me. Where'd you get the pin at? The pin was in my pocket. It was sitting right here. It was sitting right there. It just fell out when I got in and broke. Okay. I sat on it. You know what I mean? So, it crushed it. No, it's fine. Some shorts. You want me to get out? You're good, man. My partner. I trust my partner. He just had a bulge right there. I don't know what that was. Okay. Yeah. No, it's my shorts, bro. That's it. Babbid said that he had injured his left ankle and also had an infected cut on one of his toes. Due to that, the officer decided to take him to the hospital before transporting him to jail. As the interaction continued, Babbitts's behavior became increasingly suspicious, and the officer began to doubt his claims, and something felt off about [Music] everything. Going up. You guys get something to eat while in here? Uh, we'll have to find out with them. All right. All right, we're going straight that way. It was your right angle that's messed up. My left. Your left one? Yeah. All right. Actually, you know what? Let me grab a paper. Come back this way real quick. That's my bag. All right. Grab a paper. I'm just going to sit you in for like maybe 4 seconds. All right. Watch only like only like four or five [Music] seconds. My bad, man. Are you ready? Oh, you help? No, I'm good. I got it. You need a wheelchair. We'll get you one. I mean, it would help. It's kind of a long walk. When we when we get there, we'll get you a chair. It's not a long walk. It's this right here. I landed on it from like 10 ft up, dude. Oh, I'm dumpster, dude. I twisted it again. Go check it out. I know. I know. My bad. In the hospital parking lot, Babbitts began to act strangely. At first, while being handcuffed and led to the patrol vehicle, he walked with a limp due to his supposed ankle injury. But as they approached hospital doors, he walked normally until the officer mentioned the ankle again. And that's when he suddenly began limping once more. Uh, just around the corner to the left. [Applause] Get up. Ow. Get up. Oh, my head broke. 11:25. We have one for use, of course, at MC and a sergeant. Get up. Triple 7, are you direct? I gave you the benefit of the doubt. You don't violate it like that. I'm going to do the rest of my life. I had to try, bro. Oh my god. I'm passing out. I'm falling out. I'm falling out. I'm dizzy as stand up. I can't, bro. Ah, I feel like I'm going to die, bro. Everything's spinning. Can we get a wheelchair? I promise you, everything's spinning, bro. I can't. I I have like two or three more coming, but can you get like a wheelchair out, maybe? Appreciate it. Oh my god. Every time I roll over, I feel like the world is falling, bro. When I'm on my stomach and all right, try to stand up. I don't know what happened to my head right now, dude. But you should make sure I can't do anything anyways, bro. I'm not You know what I mean? I promise you, bro. Uh, something bad just happened to my head. Okay, I understand you're bleeding. You fell. Uh, I'm Oh my god, bro. Oh, I had to try. I I I feel like I figured you would. Okay. I understand. But something really happened in my head right now. I know you hit it on the on the asphalt. So, we're going to get you checked out. I got people coming out right now. Okay, bro. But I I feel like I can't move. Every time I move, everything gets spinning. Well, that makes sense. You hit your head pretty bad. So [Music] sorry man, I had to try. In a failed attempt to flee, Babbitts had tried to run, but was quickly taken down by the officer. He then hit the pavement and began bleeding from the head, claiming that he couldn't stand and felt dizzy. But the officer was unconvinced and remained alert for further escape attempts, all while waiting for a wheelchair to take him inside. I'm I'm not taking it personal. I get it. I totally get it. Okay. the rest of my life, you know. I mean, I'm sure you saw it. Keep keep your eyes open. All right. Keep your eyes open. Ow. Nice. God damn, bro. How hard did I hit my head? I don't hard enough to bleed and get dizzy. How bad is it bleeding, bro? It's bleeding enough. [Music] [ __ ] Is it still leaking? Leaking a little bit. Yeah, he's pissing right now. Bad, dude.
