can you describe what happened they asked for a dollar so I gave them a dollar Tuesday November 26th 2024 chiley Ohio police receive a call reporting an alleged robbery outside of a Valero gas station on North Bridge Street two individuals had stolen from a disabled woman and the police needed to act quickly before it was too late and they lost track of the suspects officers had to go to the scene and gather all possible evidence to identify them I'm Tyler and this is your daily dose of crime hi he this right here's the lady yeah she hi hello hello hi what's going on uh somebody just rob me and took all the money out of my on my phone okay where this happen where at you can just tell me where on the of this building a little past the edge of the building okay how did they end up robbing you and taking your money can you describe what happen well they asked for a dollar so I gave them a dollar and they stole my whole wallet you stole when you pulled your wallet out and took all the money out and you got your wallet back yeah well yes okay how much money do you know 50 I think okay what the person look like like one girl had like died hair and it almost like ratty hair okay there's more than one person there was two two people there both females or males or one male one female okay so the female is she white female white okay what color was her hair dye do you remember like her I can't remember but it almost looked like I was dreaded a little her hair yeah how old do you think she was 30 what was your build a slim build she tall short like a little shorter than me the victim speaks to the officer and recounts the events she was walking on the sidewalk near the car wash area when a man and a woman approached her asking for a dollar as she took out her wallet to give them some money the female suspect snatched her wallet and took everything she had and both suspects fled the scene immediately but they hadn't considered a few important details the victim remembered the woman's appearance quite well but would it be enough to track them down you remember what clothing she had on you remember what kind of clothing she was wearing I wish I did okay what about the guy you remember what he looked like I can't remember okay and they asked for your dollar and then they took your wallet and grabbed all the money out of it just pull it out of your hands yep okay did they threaten you at all or harm you in any way nope they did not threaten me what right around the corner of this building right that's where that happened yeah on the sidewalk or on the actual Corner no on the side so right there in front of the by The Bridge Street yeah okay I was asking cuz I noticed that I walk like a see if I can see anything and this just happened before you went in and talked to the clerk y okay kind of a male a male and a female the female had some kind of Dy ratty dreaded hair maybe okay slim a little shorter than her The Who grabbed your wallet the female it was the female they asked for a dollar and then just smashed their wallet and pulled $50 out what did they do with your wallet after they took it just threw it down they did it'll come up over here on this on theu I was yeah I was just looking at the angles here so this this is the only one here is this or no right here where the cars are at yeah okay yeah they're supposed to be and then I have one of the back alley I mean if they run like if they would have run into the alley you could see it right here the last full row the second one over there so do you want me to start it or yeah where they're moving at blurs if they was wasn't moving I'd be able to zoom in and we can see their faces and everything play it pause it again here can you back it up inside the store one of the officers accesses security camera footage from outside and looks for the moment of the crime they can see the two suspects approaching the victim and the moment when the woman grabs her wallet and the direction they go in afterwards but something essential is missing their faces are not clearly visible the search would be more difficult than originally thought is there any camera angles that are better quality of [Music] them I can get it stop right there where the Sun was shining on her face I can zo man right there go back and zo right there like you got a face shot over right there until they figure out what's going on fire department deted CO2 towards the ceiling now sometimes whenever it gets grainy like that my phone will make it my phone camera will make it a little different yeah see you can get better features Zoom it out Zoom it back out that's probably the best view we got does anybody know who they are I don't but then I'm not from around here that's where I get that's where I get a Mele little girl the female suspect is described as having a medium build wearing a brown jacket and orange shirt with purple dyed hair the male was described as wearing baggie jeans a white jacket and black and white plaid shirt despite the descriptions and officer efforts to locate the suspect they were unable to find them but something would happen the next day and police would be one step closer to catching the [Applause] criminals I'm going to jail yeah you're going to go to jail what am I going to jail for well I'm still looking into it possibly robbery yall got the number don't you come on Wednesday November 27th officers receive a statement from a Valero employee the witness cooperated with police providing crucial information for the search later that morning at a homeless Camp behind the dog park officers are able to locate Shelley Johnson the suspect involved in the robbery her statements would be quite confusing she claimed to be the victim and said that $20 had been taken from her and that she had taken the wallet to get her money back she also admitted that she had fled the scene with her partner Jason who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest when the officers asked her why she never called the police if was supposedly the victim Johnson gave no clear answer but insisted that her version of events was the truth but what was really going on here hio yeah so she's she's in jail right now is she really yes I thinkk you so that's okay I have a couple questions if I that's okay right right do you have any ways do you have any documentation on your Huntington's disease I do okay my father has a okay do you have any you could provide to me he can drop it off at the station later okay okay so you have been diagnosed by a doctor right okay can you drop it off today sure can now call him okay because that that'll escalate the crime because I I think after I interviewed her she thought you were intoxicated and drunk and then probably thought you she could come steal your wallet from you you know what I mean right so um I'm going to ask you a couple she did she said that and you L is just after interviewing her she said that you had stolen money from her is that true that is never true okay okay so she said you stole $20 from her and that's why she snatched your wallet to steal the money back really I don't believe it I'm just fig out well look at my record if you want to it's squeaky C so the victim was informed by the officers that Johnson had been arrested but they also told her what the thief had claimed which the victim completely denied Shelley Johnson would be arrested on charges of robbery a fifth degree felony and for stealing from a disabled person she was taken to the Ross County Jail where she would remain until her court appearance
