My daughter-in-law was dying on the floor. I heard like five shots. Oh goodness. My son. Wednesday, April 17th, 2024, St. Petersburg, Florida. Police received an urgent 911 call reporting that a man had shot his wife multiple times. The caller said immediate help was needed to try and save the victim's life. Units from the police department along with EMS were dispatched to the scene right away. Time became critical and they had to reach the victim before it was too late, but they needed to track down the suspect. The question is, could they do both? I'm Tyler and this is your daily dose of crime. We see your hand. I need Sorry. See your hands. Okay. Oh, yeah. Right here. All right. Um, who all here? My daughter-in-law got shot. Who? My My daughter-in-law is on the floor shot. Anybody else in there? And some dogs hopefully. Who did this? My son. Careful. The other slippery officer in here. My daughter-in-law was dying on the floor. He's gone. When officers arrived, they were met by a visibly distraught man who said his daughter-in-law had been shot and that his son was the one who had did it. His voice was shaking and the entire scene was full of tension and heartbreak. Paramedics began providing emergency care to the victim and meanwhile officers started collecting the information they needed to move forward with the case. But what exactly had happened? Uh yeah, there's two officers inside. All right. Tell me what's going on. So, what happened? My son lives in DC. His wife lives in and son live in Detroit area. Okay. She runs Ulta Beauty Outlet up in Detroit area. So, they had a big function at Disney or Orlando somewhere. Okay. He picked her up, brought her back, and they were arguing. Do you know what they were arguing about? No, they just don't get along. Okay. She'll know everything. Just so we don't lose dogs. Okay. So, you don't have any idea what they were arguing about? No, they always argue. Did they come back from Orlando tonight? Today. During the day? Today. Okay. About what time did they get back? Before I got home from work. Okay. What time did you get home from work? 5:30. 5:30. Okay. Were they arguing when you got home? They weren't home. They weren't home. They came they came back and I was getting ready to leave and he had thrown her phone out the window on the way back from so they were on the way back from Orlando. Okay. The witness told officers that his son and daughter-in-law had come to Florida to visit him and his wife after returning from a trip. He said that earlier there had been an argument and his son Devon Hansen had apparently thrown the victim's phone out of a car window. He didn't know what had caused the fight. And while the couple had argued before, no one thought that things would escalate to this level. Uh, they talked about going, but the waiting hours end at 7. So, okay. Um, I'm going to kind of sidetrack us. The car that he left in, it's a it's a CTSV. Um, an older black Cadillac hot rod, very loud CTSV. Um any like plumper stickers or um it's got a magic plate that says VC card. A magic um license plate says V-card. C A R D. Told me she's going to make it. Did she kind of give any idea of what might have? He's just being belligerent. He gets that way. He's um any history of uh violence between the two of them? Oh, no. not a violence. No, he's just I don't know what I'm trying to say. He doesn't know how to treat a woman. Doesn't know how to treat his wife like he doesn't know. Okay. And they are married. They're married. Yes. I know. I'm asking you a ton of questions. I'm just trying to get as many details as we can about the history of them. They don't stay locally. So, is there any anywhere that he may head towards? No. Okay. And how long were they supposed to be staying with you guys? They were supposed to be staying, you know, in Orlando. I think he was going to bring her back in a day or two, but they must have had an argument when he picked her up. He didn't tip the waiter at the restaurant in Orlando. And Okay. Um, and then so what happened before you called us? Tell me like what you heard, what you saw. We let her sleep and and he was in his room. He walked back and forth a couple of times and then wanted to talk to her. Um, she eventually did open the door. I got his broke in. Broke through because that door's locked. And um, forgive me. No, it's okay. I know. I know. I'm asking you a ton of questions and I know this is not an easy thing to be dealing with. They are doing everything they can to get her to where she needs to be to get treated. But the more information that we have and the more information we can get to our other officers that are trying to find him right now, the better off we're going to be. Mhm. Yeah. So, he breaks through the door cuz it was locked. Yeah. Uh did you see him break the door? And then we said, "Leave, get out." No. And and then I at this point I got up to say you're not welcome here anymore. Mhm. But he ran back to his room and got a gun, I think. I think he I don't know. I don't even remember if he was dressed or not. I think he had jeans on, but not sure. Okay. So, did he break the door and then you got up to confront him to say, "Get out." In the room, asking him to leave and get out and let him go to sleep. Okay. Um, and then he runs back towards the room that he's been sleeping in. Yeah, he ran the front room. So, you've been sleeping in the front room? Yeah, that's his room. Okay. Um, and then did you see him go back to her room or did she go into his room? And I Yeah. And he started I heard like five shots. I don't know if that happened or not. Moments after shooting his wife, Devon fled the scene. According to initial findings, the incident was extremely violent. It appeared that the woman had been locked in a room. Devon had forced the door open and entered with a gun and fired several rounds at her. The situation was extremely serious and police now had to do two urgent tasks. Try to save the victim and catch the suspect. What they didn't know was that things were about to get even worse. Yes, sir. How long did he Was he in there before he came out of the house? Well, he ran out. Okay. Did you follow him out when you called? No, I ran out so I wouldn't get shot. And listen, that's self protection. Okay, that's normal reaction. Okay, you did nothing wrong. But he's the one that did something wrong, right? He's the one that needs to be punished for this. He's the one that needs to be feeling guilty at all. Don't feel guilty about this. You did the right thing by calling us first. Make sure that we get here. We can do what we need to do. Did you see what direction he went west? I didn't see. I heard him. Okay. Very loud car. Um like a 700 horsepower. And when he ran out um when he ran out, did you see the gun with him? I didn't see him run out. I ran around through the to the back door because I wanted to see if I what happened, what was going on, if he, you know, my reaction, my thought would be he's just showing off, shooting it into the butt. Um, but you guys were the only ones in the house. Mhm. Um, do you know if he has any other weapons? Nothing taken with him that we know of. I don't know. They don't live locally. They're here visiting. Oh, they're just visiting. Got but yeah. So, just hang out here. I'll go fill them in. Take a couple deep breaths. Like I said, I know that this is hard. I know we're asking you a ton of questions. I know that this is been a whirlwind of an evening. Okay. Um, we're gonna probably have some more follow-up questions. Um, but I can do need a chair or anything. Are you going to go in and get a glass of water if it's okay? Uh, I'd prefer if we get a bottle of water. I was going to say or I can get name. Uh, I can work on that. It's for the hospital. Y M I N is the first name. Yes, ma'am. Last name. Y A S M I N. Okay. And last name is Hansen. H A N S E N. They're married. S E N. Okay. Do you know the date of birth? Yeah. I don't date. Even month and year. Nope. That's okay. I'm going to You want one? I was No, I'm just going to I promise you're you're not in any sort of trouble here. I'm just going to kind of keep an eye on you. Make sure that you don't get injured slipping on any of this water. stuff. He said I can get you a chair um once we get these initial interviews. Sit together and we'll keep you guys updated as much as we possibly can. Okay. Be safe. So, you think that's the where the water's coming from? Oh, definitely. I shut off the water. Okay. Yeah, leave that. Like I said, I'm going to have you come back out to this. Yeah, it's okay. We'll document that. The victim was in critical condition. Paramedics were doing everything they could to keep her alive. Back at the house, the witness told officers that he had run when he heard the gunfire, saying that he felt guilty for doing so, and the officer reassured him that he wasn't at fault. Time kept passing. The victim wasn't showing signs of improvement and the air was thick with anxiety. No one knew what the outcome would be and the mood was grim as officers began to prepare for the worst. While in route to the hospital, an officer riding in the back of the ambulance noticed something strange. A black Cadillac matching the description of Hansen's car was following them on the interstate. The officer alerted dispatch. Patrol units attempted to stop the vehicle, but the Cadillac sped off within seconds. A pursuit then followed and it ended when the suspect's car crashed into large landscaping rocks on 54th Avenue South. 54 and 314 on Austria. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get out the ground. As officers suspected, the driver of the Cadillac was Devon Hansen. What surprised them was his behavior. He claimed not to understand why he was being arrested, showed no emotion, was blank, detached, and completely expressionless. Officers began to fear that they were dealing with someone who lacked basic empathy, possibly a psychopathic profile. Great. Take a step outside for me, sir. Do you have a All right.
