At first, it didn't seem like a major issue, but once the officers learned the details of the case, they realized the true extent of the depravity of the suspects and the reasons behind their arrests. But before that could happen, they had to catch them. I'm Tyler and this is your daily dose of crime. Hey, how's it going, boss? Hey, how's it going off? Good. Sergeant Weaver sheriff's office. I'll lock these cuffs so they don't tighten up on you. Oh, okay. After tracking them down, the police were able to locate Jason Valiant at a gas station. Without wasting time, they ordered him out of the vehicle and handcuffed him. The man didn't say a word, but he complied with the officers. He didn't seem shocked by the situation and his behavior suggested a certain degree of guilt for his crimes. But was he really the one they were looking for? Man, I wish I could put like a jacket on or something. I'll see if there's one in the car and grab. Face the car. I got to lock the cuffs. I might have a jacket. Face the car. There you go. All right, let me uh search you real quick. That is a Valuchia detective right there. They're one of the ones that called us, okay, to try to help find you. But you got a warrant. I believe it's for fraud out of Valuchia. Okay. Oh, okay. J, just try to call the the attorney again. Spread your feet for me, bud. Anything hidden in your crutch or anywhere I need to know about? The passcode starts closing. What is it? Uh, here. Relax. Right here against the car. Turn around. Put your butt right there against the car. Relax. There you go. All right. You said a jacket. Um I think I have a jacket or a long sleeve shirt in the back seat. That'd be That's just a big pen. Jacket or long sleeve. Are you good standing by? Yeah. If he wants to talk to him, whatever, more than welcome to. Valiant's behavior said a lot and the officers were paying close attention. An investigation by the Valuchia County Sheriff's Office revealed that this man had been committing fraud for a long time. He had forged documents in order to seize properties worth a total of $1.6 million and had drained the bank accounts of his victims. But who were these victims and what was this all about? You going to the jail? You're probably going to need your phone when you get out. You want to go with you want to go with you like that? Yeah, cuz I need to call the attorney if I could. And my uh prescription in case I get sick if I don't have it. You won't take that in there. No, I can just take one now. I just It's just my suboxin. So, if I could take one, I'll be the the bottle that Yeah, it should be in there. Do I have a bond yet? Oh, you have a bond. Would you like to know how much it is? Yes, please. $375,000. Would you like to know what this is about? Yes, please. This is about you taking advantage of two helpless individuals when they went to the hospital. This is about you taking advantage of two people when they were at their most vulnerable. Okay? But there was one thing you weren't counting on. God was watching you. You're going to go to prison for a long time. Okay, wrap your head around that, my man. You're going to have this to go to the jail with. I'll have that because we do forensic examination on Hey, Shay. Are they going to let you go or what are you going to do? Yes. Take the car and go. Okay. Can I leave my phone with her then so she can call? Well, let's get figure out the warrant there. Okay. I told her she can talk to him before he goes or whatever. And could she just take it home so it doesn't have to get towed? Yeah. All right. Thanks. Appreciate it. Yeah, I'll keep it easy. Yeah, everything's okay. I appreciate it. He's asking if one of you Wallace. Oh, because somebody was calling our phone. Yeah, I knew somebody was coming. Yeah, I kept saying Wallace and nobody threw rocks at our door, so I knew somebody was coming. Cuz we live in an old neighborhood. Everybody looks out for each other. I said, "I know where he is. Let's go get him." Yeah. So, I was like, "It's all right." Then they called in the troops. Yeah. No, I respect you guys. It's all good. The officers informed Jason of the charges against him. Valion faced a $375,000 bond for organized fraud, exploitation of vulnerable adults, and fraudulent use of credit cards. The accused had defrauded a couple from Orman Beach. And as their real estate agent, he had created fraudulent documents that made him their power of attorney and their healthc care proxy. But that wasn't even the worst part. Man, I just wish I would have taken that medicine for her. So, she's going to bring it to the jail. Yeah, but they won't let you have it. Yeah, they won't. Really? Yeah. They got medical personnel. No, they won't let you. Yeah. You know that from experience? Well, I don't know about I don't know about flag about ours. They would they would not what they would do is they take the prescription. They won't take them in, but they'll take it and they'll look at it and then they'll verify it from the doctor. They'll give you the same thing, right? Because they worry about what's in that bottle. Exactly. Yeah. Might not be, but they'll verify and they'll But they won't let you do the box. And that's fine. I got to go through it. Oh man. [Music] It's all Yeah. They want to come see it. They all want to see it. Why? Must have done something. What did I get charged with? Dude, you have a $375,000 bond. For what? These detectives here will be able to explain it to you. Oh my gosh. What's up? What's going on, man? How are you? Good evening. What's up, me? Shane, did you get in touch at all? Did you get in touch with them? Can I just point out something real quick? No, that's me. I knew who somebody was. It sounds too young. I was like, there's no way. And then my ring camera. Nobody threw rocks. No, I have a little old lady that lives next door. I was like squad and we just had that but we did have a doper like going behind your house. But you know on Thanksgiving we just had that I know we were there. Yeah, I know. I met you that babe. You got to get the cash out to bond me out. Babe, is he picking up? Shut. They said you can talk to me, baby. Yeah. Just on the news though, living in that place. Yeah, we had that shooter. But you don't It wasn't Mat. I mean, you Thanksgiving. But you don't live there. No, I'm a real. All right. Secret hanging out there. Yeah, we were just there for Thanksgiving that day. He just started shooting right next door to us. He just shoot Yeah. From like 5 in the morning. Let me ask you a question. Hey, there's money and credit cards in here. When you go to the jail, it's probably like ours. When you get out, they don't give you money. They give you a check. You want me to leave the money with You want to leave the money with her and maybe take just a couple of cards with you? Yes, please. That' be great. We bring it all with her. It's on personal property. Okay. All right. Well, can I just save some cards so she can get home cuz there's like no So, what happens is you can sign them over to her at the jail and then she can pick them up. Yep. She can pick them up there. So, that way it's documented. Why? Because what we've had happen before is you give money to your girlfriend like four 400 bucks to go bond you out and she steals your money and then when you get out of jail you call us saying that well the cops gave her 400 bucks. So now everything goes with you. Bad situation. Everything goes with you. You want to sign money over to her credit card. So it's you actually have to physically sign it. It just makes it lessen. Is uh is this is this uh Lauren already in the system? Yeah. Okay. Are you allowed to bring me clothes? Like um I don't I don't know the positive. I don't think so. They're going to put Hey, bring like clothes like long sleeve shirts cuz you have to be all white. Probably not pants, but probably maybe a shirt. So, call the jail and say, "What clothes can you bring?" It's usually all white long sleeves like Hannes like Hayne's um under roof, you know, like Hannes long johns. You go to transport? Yeah, it'll be okay. Yeah. I love you, baby. I'm put some different cups on you. Yeah, these are tight. Yeah. Yeah. Get some loose ones. Stay right there for me. Say, bring my contacts, too, and my other pair of glasses. Try to find the ones with the orange tips. This should be in the white in the blue bag and the black bag. Oh, okay. Hey, it's going to be okay. All right. You know what to do. Hey, you're going to have to tell um Tommy and tell her what happened. Thanks, sir. Huh? Facebook. I don't know what to do, babe. Didn't call my dad. What about Deon? Write it down right now. 3 2 1. All right. You You can call her to jail later. You know my pop's number. Just Google him and call Deon. Three. Don't worry him, but just so he knows. [Music] No, you did. He's doing the paper. Yeah, we're done. So, he's going to print it and then we'll just sign it and give it to you that way. Okay. He said I have to sign my car over to her. Yeah. Okay. He's already done. He's just or my uh wallet or something with her. He said I had to sign personal property. She could leave with it at the jail. I'll tell you. I'll give it to you before you leave. Okay. She can take her. Yeah. And that's what I believe. Yeah. Which one we going to? The parker. White one. Yep. Man, they brought out everybody. Huh? Yeah. I don't I don't I'm not even a part of all this. I'm just happen to uh What's that? Not even violent. I know, but I I don't know what's going on. I don't I just happen to be here in the area. You're not keeping anything on you that's going to get you in trouble in jail going in? No, I just coming out. Okay. That's why I'm dressed like this. I was not. I was not. Could you pull my hat down a little bit like over my ears? Just a little bit warmer cuz So, this is tight squeeze in the back of this car. Yeah. So, um I was somewhere. There's no way I can see. No, you're going to have to hold it in. Um you want to go in backwards? If you want to go in rear end first. Yeah, and then just slide yourself across the seat. There you go. The officers explained to Valiant how they would proceed with the arrest and after he finished talking to his partner, one of the officers escorted him to the patrol car. He seemed very calm without a trace of guilt for his actions, which made the officers doubt. Not only had Jason committed the affforementioned crimes, but he had also signed a do not resuscitate order for one of his victims who had been in the hospital and was taken off life support the day before his arrest. How far would he go to commit fraud? Where um where am I going to? Flag County Jail. Am I getting a felony charges or misdemeanor? Uh with a bond like that, I'm imagine it's going to be felony. Yeah. So, when you go to the jail there, what do they put you for when they segregate you? What do you mean? Like violent offenders, nonviolent? Uh, I I couldn't tell you that. I don't even know if they even do that there. Unless you're acting a fool, then then they put you where they need you. Oh, man. What a way to spend Christmas. How's my girl? Did she get to drive away? Yeah, she's gone. Man, that was a rock status check. What did they tell you guys that they brought so many? I I I don't I have no idea what's going on. I just happen to be the uh the actual police car in the area to assist with this. So, what happens next? Uh you're going to get booked in at the Fiverr County Jail. Mhm. And um you'll have a first appearance tomorrow. Mhm. Man, I wonder what they charge me with to make a bond 300,000. Can you look it up and see what it is? Yeah. Give me one second. Thanks. Be advised, MailHop is saying that he's at organized scheme to defraud and grand theft and exploitation of an adult grand theft, fraudulent use of personal ID and fraudulent use of credit card. That's your charges. Oh man, that detective was so happy, too. He told me, he's like, I'm going to get you. As Valiant was being transported to jail, he asked again about the charges and the reasons for his arrest. He laughed off the situation and asked for more details about the case. It certainly didn't seem like he was taking the severity of the situation seriously and the officers were slowly realizing that he wasn't fully aware of the consequences. So, where's the we're in Valuchia County or Flaggler County? We're in Flagger County. But which jail am I going to? Flagger County. And where's the charges out of? Looks like Valia County. It's a Valuchia County warrant. So, does that mean I have to get extradited to Valuchia? Uh, I I could tell you most likely if you know Bond's out. Hey, can you do me a quick favor? Can um can you Google my girlfriend's phone number so I can have it to call her from the jail? Cuz I don't know her phone number. Is there any way you could call her? Cuz how do I if I don't know her phone number, how do I get in touch with her? I am home. Man, I didn't think about that cuz how am I even going to make a phone call if I don't know the phone number? Oh, and then Oh, man. The other number I need is my business partner. That's easy to find. Yeah. I appreciate you, man. I'm sorry. This just happened. I had an attorney and everything. I thought they would call and we could do a walk through and I'd be prepared. Do they have a warrant out for Connie? It's your wife. Yeah. No. How do you search for a warrant if there's a warrant for someone else? Uh, if it's I think if it's a Florida warrant, you can go to the one of the Could you look it up if I gave you a name? Yeah. I know. I know you're doing. I'm sorry. I was just thinking of stuff. Can you look up on the database and see if she has a warrant? Connie Ker. You know her all of her information? Uhhuh. What was the last name again? Kelner. K E L L N E R. First name is Constants. C O N S T A N C E. Middle name, her initial I don't know. There can't be too many Constants Kelers in Palm Coast. Uh your birthday? Uh like 75 years ago. She's like 70. Yeah, I need a I need like a a middle initial and a date of birth. Is that phone number that we just looked up? Conner realtor cuz she Man, I hope she doesn't get picked away. She's Oh man, I can't believe this is happening. I just got to stay calm. I just got to stay calm and relaxed. Well, I hate to tell you this, but uh it looks like those guys that stopped you are going after uh Miss uh Connie. Why? Looks got a warrant. You just found it. Yeah, they're going to her house right now. If they get a hold of her, then she'll be coming here with you. How did you find that? You just found the name. On the screen. Oh, poor Con. Near the destination, Valiant asked about his partner. After a quick search and review of recent reports, the officer confirmed that his partner, Connie Kelner, would also be arrested that same night as an accomplice. Within hours, the people responsible for the fraud would face the consequences. Jason Valiant was charged with organized fraud, exploitation of a vulnerable adult, grand theft of over $100,000, grand theft of a vehicle, criminal use of personal identification information, and illegal use of credit cards. Meanwhile, Tonnie Kelner faced two charges of complicity. Both are facing years in prison, probation, or restitution depending on the circumstances of the crime and their criminal records.
