Don't move. Don't move. Sit still. >> When we hear the word mom, we picture a safe pair of arms, but the body cam tells a very different story. >> And I'm pregnant. Can I go my stomach? >> As soon as you got handcuffs, >> please, sir. I'm going to get in big trouble. >> We We found some drugs in the baby's diaper. Okay. Yeah. Ask her. From handing your child over to a stranger, leaving them outside a bar to hiding drugs in your baby's own diaper. This is where motherly love gets put on the bargaining table with ego, booze, and crime. And the kids are always the ones who end up paying the price. On May 19th, 2023, what looked like a minor traffic stop turned into something much messier. A child in the back seat with no seat belt. a man she met online driving the car instead of mom and strange reactions the moment the cops hit their lights. And this is what really happened next. [music] >> Thank you, sir. Can you roll your back window down for me a little bit? Why don't you have a seat belt on? Not funny. It's going to cost him a lot of money. >> Yeah, it's not it's not funny. >> The reason I The reason I stopped you is you stopped right there on the roadway and dropped people off. You can't drop people off the roadway. >> You have to go through like everyone else, right? >> I've been doing that every day and I'm glad you told me. >> Get a license from you >> and the uh registration, please. >> All right. There's a key to this car or key fob, >> sir? Let me have the key fob to the car. >> Sir, what's going on, sir? Why you got Why we doing all this, sir? >> See the key fob? >> I'm saying why we doing sir. >> Sir. >> Sir, why are we doing all this? right now, sir. This don't even make no sense. Like, why we doing all this? >> Let me see the key fob. >> Sir, I'm not even going nowhere. What we What we doing, sir? >> Can you start me another unit for Rose Middle, please? >> Don't Don't take off. Is that a maroon and Ford Fusion takeoff on me? Going towards 15th Street nowhere. >> All right. This is how this is going to go. All right. You're on a video right now. You're on camera. >> Yes, sir. >> You said you just met this guy. When did you meet him? >> I met him off of tag. >> Huh? >> I met him off of tag when? >> Like about a month ago. We've been talking on You don't know his name? >> I don't know his full name then. He said RJ. No, he was just He came last night. >> Okay. This is going to go from here to DCF because you're letting your children go with somebody that you don't even know, which is not safe at all. >> You're telling me you don't know him? >> You're telling me you don't know him. He says his ID is in here. Unless I can get his ID, then you'll be if I get his ID, you'll be out of it. All right. It's a traffic ticket. That's all it's going to be. >> Sometimes the real trouble starts with one rush decision. The child is thrown into chaos when the man driving suddenly takes off while mom is left standing with officers trying her best to look calm. Those early memories quietly teach a child one thing. Adults aren't always safe. Even when mom keeps denying she ever neglected them. >> You don't have All right. Where's your ID? I need your ID. >> Stay here. That's why. >> Well, he stayed here last night and he has your kids. So, >> well, he is going to be involved. All right. Let me let him in. >> Let me have your ID. >> She's full of [ __ ] She has your kids right in our car. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I know. >> Yeah. She bought mine. >> What do you think his name is? >> I'm a great mom. So you seems like it was um >> I'm not threatening with ECF. I'm telling you what I'm going to do. But no threat. >> I ain't never had no case ever. >> All right. Well, now unfortunately you have one. >> I could I woke up throwing up this morning sleeping on my belly all night last night. >> All right. >> Let her know that her daughter's in the car with someone that just took off from police and almost got in a car accident driving to pick up now. Her daughter called her >> but the cop smacked the daughter in the face. >> No, the cop didn't. No, the cop didn't. I was claiming. >> All right, perfect. Cuz see, it's on video. >> Tell her to go and make a booster report, please. >> Okay. Yeah, she just caught me crying, saying pop smacked her in the face, threw her to the side of the street. I don't know. >> Maybe someone else pulled her over. >> I decided to drive like a maniac to the school zone with the car. >> I like how they just claim >> I like how you let people in your house talking on and off. He came >> a month ago, but you don't know his first and last name. His name is RJ. by RJ. >> I'm full of [ __ ] >> How am I full of >> You're full of [ __ ] I knew I would tell you that. >> It's basic deductive reasoning. It's bas basic deductive reasoning. We deal with people that are full of [ __ ] all the time. And if you're you've been dating this guy for a month, you're allowing him to take your daughter to school. You just told me you've been dating for a month. >> I said I met him a month ago on tag. We've been talking here and there. We haven't like really gotten We haven't like really gotten Well, the kids are saying that that's your boyfriend. Now the mom's saying that's your boyfriend. >> They don't even know him. How are you going to claim somebody? >> I mean, they know you, right? >> They know me, but they've been they know you enough to give to let your kid go in this car with this guy. >> Cuz I've been talking to him like I trusted him. >> Why would you trust him? Is that your boyfriend? >> No, it's not my boyfriend. >> This is exactly how kids end up at risk of being exploited or disappearing. This mother clearly put her trust in the wrong place, choosing a man over her own child. She says she's sick, that she needed help getting the kid to school. Yet somehow, she's healthy enough to let a stranger into her home and hand him the car keys. >> Listen, I don't have these problems. >> I'm a great mom. I don't do none of that. I take care of my kids. I'm a single mom. What's a good number that DCF can contact you when they need to contact him? >> Where do you think R.J. lives if he doesn't live here? >> As far as I know, he lives out west somewhere. I never picked him up from there. >> How'd he get here? Have you slept here? >> No, he got dropped off. >> If DCF were to take your kids, who would they bring Who could they Who could watch your kids? You have a a family member. If DCF took your kids? >> I'm the only one. I'm all I have. >> So, they'd have to place them somewhere if they took them. >> Sir, why would they do that? I'm a great one. >> Why would they do that? Because you let some man you don't know in your house and then you give him your car and you let him take him to school. He didn't drop up at school. He went away from school. >> One mistake. Cuz I was sick this morning. >> I just would like to know who DCF could place your kids with. >> Long in my life for them to take my kids my house. >> Call the police station. The non emergency number. >> I'll give you that number. >> I never think something like this would happen this early on. That's why, you know, we never really got into a deep conversation about ourselves. I'm not a bad mom, sir. Please. >> Hi. >> How you doing? >> Good. How are you? >> Is it okay if I talk to her for a second? >> Good morning. >> Good morning. >> You were in the back of the car, right? When I Who? Who ripped you out of the car? No, I didn't say that because I said because I thought you was trying to get me out of the car because you tried to stop it because he was trying to drive off in the traffic with me and then halfway down the street he told me to get out the car. >> Oh, okay. So, nobody ripped you out of the car? >> No. >> No officer ripped you out of the car? Oh, I thought you told somebody they did. >> No, I said I thought you tried to. >> Okay. Who Who was this that was driving the car? >> Um, her boyfriend. >> Who was it? Um the the lady boyfriend, Mr. Boyfriend, >> what's his name? >> I don't know. >> You can see this child growing up in two realities at once. The truth they actually lived and the story of mom is the victim they're forced to repeat. Fear of getting in trouble mixes with fear of disappointing mom. Planting the seed for an adult who no longer knows if they're being honest or just playing a role. >> Never been in the car with him driving before. >> It's not a hard question. Does he >> day school? And then that's it. >> No, it's not. I took you the first day of school. Honestly, you better tell these people the truth, bro, cuz I want to get out their face. All right. I want to go to work and you said he lying. First, you said they slapped you in the face. Then you said they grabbed you out the car. MAKE UP YOUR MIND, ZION. >> You see how she said he changing the story? First the officer slapped the story. >> Just took out the car. Now ain't none of that happened. >> I never >> tell them what happened. >> You never SAID THAT. >> OUT THE CAR. HONESTY. YOU SAID THEY knocked the necklace off and everything. >> They He did. >> I touched you. >> I touched you. Did I touch you >> when you reached into THE CAR? >> DID I TOUCH YOU? >> Did I touch you or any of your clothes? >> Somebody took my off my neck cuz I don't have it. I had it in when I was in the car when you told me to put on my seat belt. >> Okay. No, wait. Wait. >> Answer this question. >> Stop. Please. This is a yes or no question. >> Did I touch you or did I touch your clothes? >> My lanyard. Yes. When you tried to grab his camera was on when you grabbed the thing. >> Grabbed what thing? >> The um the window thing. When you tried to stop the car, you tried to stop the car cuz he was he was riding off. >> Okay. And I touched you >> when you >> just remember it's on camera, so we're going to be able to look at it and watch it. >> All right. Go. Let's go back to the last question. When's the last time you got a ride to school with him? >> I don't remember. >> Last week. Last week. >> No. took me all last week. >> All right. So, more than more than a week ago. >> All right. And you rode with him? >> Said this was the first time you rode with him. >> Can you stop? >> Yes. >> You You rode with him another time from here. >> No. >> The child is so confused they don't even know what they're supposed to hide for the grown-ups. One more family stands on the edge of being torn apart by a string of reckless choices. This mother once lived in chaos as a victim. And now, without even realizing it, she's recreating that same chaos for her child. A month later, officers see her again, still with the same man. All right. Cuz I might need to get his DNA cuz we don't know who this person is. All right. Okay. Thank you. Don't [ __ ] move. Don'ting move. Sit still. me. >> GET OUT OF THE CAR. >> GET THE OUT CAMERA. >> GET OUT, [ __ ] I SAID GET OUT. Get the [ __ ] out. >> Get the Get IN THE CAR. >> GET BACK. YOU GET BACK, TOO. >> GET IN THE CAR. >> YOU WANT SOME OF THIS? >> Don't you go anywhere. >> What do you want? >> Shut up. >> You want some of this, too? Shut the [ __ ] up and go your way. Goodbye. Goodbye. >> 203. >> Get out of here. >> What are you doing in this car? What you got in that bag? >> What's in the bag? >> My That's my bag. >> WHY YOU LEANING IN THE WINDOW FOR 20 MINUTES COUNTING [ __ ] ON THE PILLOW? >> NO, CUZ HE WAS UM HE said he wasn't feeling good. So, >> you think I'm stupid? >> ARE YOU SERIOUS? >> I'M DEAD ASS SERIOUS. DOES THIS LOOK LIKE THE MICKEY MOUSE CREW? >> ID NOW. >> GIVE ME YOUR [ __ ] ID. YOU, TOO. >> TURN THE CAR OFF. >> Your I have a reasonable, articulable suspicion that you're involved in a narcotics deal at this car because I sat here for 20 minutes and watched you. Your behavior is consistent. Your behavior is consistent with selling narcotics. >> Hey boss, if you that's what you want to do, go ahead and take me to jail so I can call my lawyer. >> Oh, bro. I don't have to I don't have to be told to do anything by you. No problem. Believe me. Believe me. >> Take me to jail. You understand what? I I know what I can and can't do. >> Take me to jail. >> No, I can't. You understand what I'm saying? >> Cuz I haven't got your name yet. >> I'm I'm giving That's what I'm giving it to you. >> Well, I have to write it down. >> Oh, okay. >> What's your first name? >> Reginal. >> She's a liar. She's a drug addict. She's full of [ __ ] >> Oh my god. I did not know that passed out at the [ __ ] What is that? the buffet place but make the goddamn valley. >> In the end, they both land in jail. The man now faces charges for the traffic violation, fleeing from police, battering an officer, and giving false information. The mother is charged with child neglect and endangerment for handing her child over to a man whose real identity she barely knows, letting him drive the child and standing by while he runs from the cops. She could end up under strict supervision, forced into mandatory services, and if she keeps making the same choices, she could lose custody altogether. But if you think that's the limit of a mother's carelessness, wait until you see the next mom at the bar. On February 23rd, 2024, Charlotte County deputies rushed to Charlie's pub after witnesses panicked. A woman appeared drunk and was about to drive off with her young child. They were so worried, they dialed 911 without a second thought. When officers arrived, things unraveled in a way no one expected. >> Team, reason I'm stopping the Infinity is we had a call about your vehicle. They were concerned about your ability to operate a vehicle. >> Um, right now, is everything okay? >> Have you had anything alcohol or anything to drink today? >> Are you on any medications prescribed by a doctor? >> Well, anxiety. >> Okay. What? >> How much have you had today? for sure. >> Okay. My anxiety med. >> We're right in the middle of the pharmacy. >> Yes. >> Um, she's two and he's seven. >> Oh, okay. >> I took her. >> You took her in the pub? >> Yeah, I just had >> You didn't take him? >> No, >> you left him in the car. >> I left vehicle running. I just had to pee. >> Okay. I'm going to get my form. Can you get her out real quick? Table 313's out with me. I'm just I'm going to do field sobriety, but she's got two babies in the car, too. So, the first thing I'm going to do, Miss Patton, is I'm going to check your eyes. All right. So, what I want you to do is stand with your feet together, arms at your side. You see that pen? I need you to focus on that pen. >> When I move it, I'm going to move it in a left to right fashion. You're going to follow with your eyes and your eyes only, keeping your head completely straight. Do you understand? >> Yes, I understand. >> Do you have any questions? >> No, I do not. >> She left her kid in the back seat and casually took care of herself. bathroom break, another drink to feel better. It wasn't hatred toward her child, but a twisted priority system. Mom's momentary comfort always outranked the child's safety, and the sobriety tests made one thing clear. Her whole life was just as unsteady. >> All right, miss. This time we're going to go upwards. Same thing. Just your eyes, head straight. Okay. Yes, sir. Relax for a moment. All right. This time, what I'm going to do is I'm going to go around your face in a circle twice. You're going to follow with your eyes. Your eyes only. After I make that second turn, I'm going to bring it in close to your no. What I'm going to do, ma'am, is that this time I want you to put your left foot directly on the line. Take your right foot, place it directly in front of left, like mine, arms at your side. Stay in that position. Do not start until I tell you to begin. Sir, >> when I tell you to begin though, Miss Patton, you're going to take a series of steps, counting your steps out loud like such. >> 1 2 3. You're going to go all the way to nine. Upon reaching nine, you're going to leave that lead foot in place. You're going to take that back foot. You'll step out, make a series of steps turning Miss Patton, do you remember the instructions? in front of the other for nine. Nine steps >> and then turn and go back nine. Right. >> Okay. >> How many steps did you take? >> I didn't count. Sorry. Do you want me to start again? >> No. No. Just continue back the other way. >> The walk and turn isn't just walking straight. It's a simple question. Can you follow instructions? Officers explained each step slowly. She repeated every detail flawlessly. But once she moved, everything fell apart. Her body zigzagging, her willpower nowhere near her words. Self-control failed her at the exact moment she needed to prove she still had it. >> Called the one leg stand. >> Okay. When I tell you to, you're going to take the foot of your choice and you're going to raise it approximately six inches off the ground. It's going to look like this. >> Your foot will be parallel to the ground. Your arms will be straight. Your legs will both be straight. >> 6 in is like a Coke can. Think about resting your foot on top of a Coke can. >> Sir, >> you're going to count out loud in a matter of such. 1,00 1,002 1,003. You're going to continue to count until I say stop. I'm not going to tell you how long I'm going to have you do it for, but I will tell you that I'm about to do it longer than I'm going to have you do it. >> If at any time you lose your balance or anything like that and have to put your foot down, >> regain your composure, pick that foot back up and continue counting where you left off, sir. >> So, if you have to put it down on a five, when you pick it back up, make sure we start counting again. and you can stop. Miss Patton, the last exercise is called the fingertip nose. So, what I need you to do is take both your fingers like this. Index fingers. Now, put them at your side, palms forward like mine. Remain in that position until I tell you to start. When I tell you, let's switch sides so the sun's not in your eyes. I rather have the sun in my eyes. When I tell you to start, you're going to have your head tilted back and your eyes shut. My eyes are staying open to watch you, but your eyes will be shut. Okay? >> If I say left, I'm going to call it a series of lefts or rights. >> If I say left, it's straight up, tip of the nose, tip of the finger, and right back down to your side. I will not remind you to put it down. >> The way she kept saying sir over and over sounded like she was in a boot camp. She understood every command, repeated it without hesitation, but her feet refused to keep up with her mouth. And here's the heartbreaking part. She was sober enough to argue, sober enough to know better, yet still left her 7-year-old alone in the car. Remember the instructions. Remember the instructions. >> You got to put your hand down. >> Oh, sorry. Sorry, sir. >> Left, right, right, left. All right, I got one one last exercise. It's Miss Amanda, at this time you're under arrest for DUI. >> Do you have somebody that can come get the children? >> Who can come get the children? >> All right, we're just need to call him. I don't want to have I don't want to have DCF have to come out here for him. What's your husband's phone number? >> Why I'm being >> You're being arrested for DUI. Your husband's name? >> Charles. >> Charles, >> you want to tell me what I what I failed? >> It's not pass or fail, but I'll tell you that you gave me enough clues and indicators to arrest you. >> Oh, did I? >> Oh, yes. Absolutely. >> Does my anxiety medicine that I didn't tell you about have anything to do with this? >> Steroids. >> Absolutely. >> All right. >> If you look at your medication bottle, it says do not operate machinery. >> No. And >> it absolutely But I didn't. >> Do you want to be I'm going to start typing something real quick. Do you want to ask her if there's a parent, a grandparent? We'll get anybody >> at this point. Any relative is better than DCF. >> Yeah, that's your unicorn. What's its name? >> Is that your brother? >> He's crying. >> What's your brother's name? What happened? >> A boo boo. in my hair. >> Yeah, I got a couple of those. >> This wasn't just a drunk mother. It was an entire family system where no one is steady enough to be a child's anchor. She tried to flip the script from the one putting her child at risk to a victim of medication and illness. But excuses don't erase the truth. She saw the warning label do not operate machinery and still drove her kid [music] after drinking. He's crying. How old are you? Uh-oh. Are you watching Sing? It's my favorite movie. Yeah, he's crying. What's his name? >> What is it? Are you trying to give me your unicorn? This is your unicorn, though. Do you want them? You want me to have them? Yeah. What's its name? >> Yeah. I'm going to go make sure your brother's okay. All right. I'll be right over there, though. Okay. I'm not going to leave. I'm just going to walk around to go over there. Okay. I'll be right back. >> Hi, buddy. Hi. HI. HI. >> YES. UM, I'm Yes, I'm still here currently with them. Me and another deputy are. >> Hi. Is this Charles? >> I'm sorry, >> Charles. This is Corporal Konet from the sheriff's office. I need you to come to Harbor in 41 >> where the pharmacy is and pick up your children. >> She was ultimately taken to jail and now faces charges of DUI, DUI with a minor under 18, and child neglect without bodily harm. If convicted, she could get up to 5 years in prison, fines up to $5,000, lose her license, and be placed under parenting supervision or child protective oversight. Leaving your kid outside a bar is bad enough, but wait till you meet the pregnant mom stealing luxury goods. On May 14th, 2024, police showed up at a shopping mall after staff reported a major shoplifting ring hitting stores like Lululemon and Sunglass Hut. Two women were being watched, one of them holding a baby. Once their car was stopped, roughly $12,000 in luxury goods became the centerpiece of the investigation. All >> your windows down. >> How you doing? 104. It's going to be it. How you doing? >> Do me a favor. Step out of the vehicle. >> Okay. >> Just let you know everything recorded on body cam. All right. For >> me? >> Yeah. Everything's being recorded on body cam. I have to let you know. >> Okay. >> All right. I'm going to read your rights real quick. Okay. >> With the right to main silent. >> Anything you say, cut them open. >> You have a right to attorney. If you can't afford them, when it can be appointed you by the court. You understand? >> So, what are you doing stealing from Sunglass today? >> Who? Me? >> Yeah. You. We have video of you stealing from Sunglass. >> Can I see it? >> Yeah. We can pull up the video. I see it. I saw it. Take the car seat out and put it on the back of the car. >> It's one or the other. Either take the car seat out >> and put it on the trunk or you hold him. >> Let me just >> She's running. Can you run the auto all the way? >> She went. >> But who's the mother of the baby? >> Which one? >> The mother. Who's the Are you the mother? >> Who's the mother? >> I just call her nest. I don't know her whole name. >> Okay. Do you know who the baby is? >> The Do I know who the baby is? Yeah. >> Which mother? >> Who's the mother? >> Vanessa. >> I don't know her real name. >> Is she here with you today? >> Yeah. >> OKAY. >> Get your arm out. >> Hey, my baby's in the car. Yeah, we got your baby >> and I'm pregnant. Can I go off my stomach? >> As soon as you got handcuffs, huh? >> Please, sir. I'm going to get in big trouble. >> Well, you shouldn't have. >> I don't care. I will give it back. >> I don't care. >> I'm going TO GIVE IT BACK. >> That's not how it works. >> Okay. >> Now, give me your >> Okay. I'm not going to go to jail forever. Please. >> Call her so she can come pick up the baby. >> No phone. >> We don't believe so. We're double checking her. >> Phone's in the car. Why would she go to the mall without her phone? >> It was dead. I don't know where she was. >> We see this every day. All right. Huh? We see this every day. >> Mhm. >> You guys went in the mall together and you guys both shoplift. We got it all on video. >> I shoplift. >> Yes, you did on video. Sunglass both of them. >> No, I didn't. >> Stay back here. >> I'm just trying to make sure the baby Okay. Did I open the door? >> You did? >> I did. >> Just have the step parked by. Oh, hold off. >> Yeah. And we're going to try and receive. >> Eventually, the system caught up with them. These moms were surviving by slipping through cracks and praying no one noticed. But the moment they chose luxury brands over basic necessities, every excuse of we're just trying to get by completely fell apart. What they were chasing wasn't survival. It was the high of beating the law. >> Everything's recorded right here. Okay. >> In trouble with this. >> Do you have a receipt for this? >> Yes, it's in the car. >> How about this? >> It's in the car. >> How about this? >> Yes. It's in the car. That's why the car. >> YES, IT IS. >> We're searching the entire car. >> Okay. >> The entire car. >> Ma'am, I'm advising you to stop talking. >> Well, that's dumb. Then you shouldn't have told >> I got to teach you how to act like an adult. >> You got a kid and you're doing it. I don't care who money is this. >> Stop talking. How many times I got to tell you? >> You are. You should have thought about that before you wanted to steal. >> You're in essence. >> I'm never going to I'm in the car. Got in the car. You wouldn't have left the car, right? >> I DIDN'T LEAVE MY CAR BY HIMSELF. HE'S WITH MY FRIEND. >> NO, WE GOT HIM, TOO. >> HUH? >> We got there, too. >> Everyone's under. Your baby's coming to headquarters. >> Yes, he is. >> Nope. >> We're past that point. >> Can I Yeah, just her. She's poking towards me. I got you. >> You got the receipts for this stuff. >> Is that home? That's why that's why I never right there. >> Here's the other lady. >> This mother genuinely cares for her child. Yet, she also used that same child as leverage with the cops. One day, that kid will see what really happened. Mom didn't just steal. She blamed them as the reason. That's a lifelong burden. Growing up feeling like you were the excuse for someone else's bad choices. >> Please, can my sister come up? I don't want the baby to go, please. >> STOP TALKING. >> WHY CAN'T I TALK? I'M JUST TELLING YOU. >> I'm going to deal with all this. Just take her down. >> It's a gift to to the to my friend. She's going >> She's going under arrest, too. She just she didn't take anything I did. I took everything. >> Well, a privilege. >> Yeah, but my son. I can't see my son. WHAT WERE YOU GOING TO do with my son? My mom could come get him. Please. >> If you keep yelling, then that's not going to be an option. I told you to stop already. >> I am sorry. I'm just scared because I'm already in a situation. >> Well, you put yourself in that situation. You're going you're a grown ass woman. >> And I don't have nothing. And I have nothing. Sir, you work. I don't work. How you doing? >> Good. >> Yeah. Is it yours? >> How you doing? >> Good. How you doing? You guys can uh there's like a Sorry. Yes. There we go. Her worry for the baby stood right beside a harsh truth. She placed that child at the center of a crime scene, surrounded by stolen items, the threat of arrest, and possible child protective services involvement. It's the blueprint of a parent who can't protect. And the deeper they searched, the darker the truth became. >> She didn't do anything. I promise you. Sit down, please. >> All right, I'm just going to reach over and grab the seat belt. >> I promise she didn't do nothing. Can you just send her so she can take my kid home? Okay, please. She didn't do anything. I promise here. This is what county. 5 my mom to come get here. >> Where are we anyway? >> Okay. >> Um yeah, we we found some drugs in the baby's diapers. Okay. >> Yeah. Ask her. She's saying that she didn't know about it. >> Okay. >> Who was this person to her? >> Yeah. >> And you know, listen, she was in possession of the baby, so who knows? But let's find out about the the drugs. If not, we'll, you know, Yeah, I'll find out. Oh, I got it. >> Listen. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. >> I just want TO GIVE HIM HIS MEDICINE. That's it. >> Infection. >> You're going to keep going? Cuz I'm not going to talk if we're going to keep going. >> Young mom. >> Okay. But you But two people talking at the same time doesn't work, right? >> Sorry. >> Can I talk so that way we can get this resolved, right? Okay. >> We'll get the medicine resolved. That's your baby, right? >> Yes. >> Who's Who is this lady, too? >> That's That's my friend. >> Your friend? >> Yes. Can she just go? >> Hold. >> No, she's not. >> Listen, she's not going anywhere. >> No, nothing. >> Can Didn't I say like, "Let me talk and then I'll let you say whatever you need to say." All right. So, that's your friend, >> your baby, right? That's your son, is it? Okay. >> Okay. >> He's crying. I know. >> I I know he's crying. I understand. No. >> Now, listen. We'll deal with the medicine in a minute, but you got to listen to me. Okay. >> I just want my son to come get him. I just want them to come get him. >> Who can come get him? >> My mom. >> Your mom. >> Yes. >> So, if we call your mom, where does your mom live? >> My mom live in London. >> In London. Okay. And she can come and she can come right now. >> Can I call her off my phone? >> I'm asking. Can she come right now? >> Yeah. >> All right. Give me a second. All right. >> Can I just get the baby, please? Can I bring the baby right here? >> No. You're under arrest. You can't do that. >> No amount of We're broke, no tears, no excuses can undo the moment drugs are found pressed against a baby's skin. It shows they've lived in chaos so long they've forgotten what safety even looks like. When adults hide illegal drugs inside their child's diaper, right and wrong no longer exist. Are you are you on drugs or anything? Do you do drugs? >> Yeah. >> What do you do? >> Um I do I just do I smoke weed? >> You don't do heroin? You don't know that stuff? Crack? >> Does your friend do that? >> No. >> Okay. You She's Miranda. >> Yeah, Griffin. >> Okay. So, uh we have a problem right now. >> What? >> I need you to be honest with me. >> Okay. I'm the supervisor right now. >> Um we found drugs on your son >> and his diaper. >> In his pants. Oh, that's not me. That's not me. I don't do no drugs. >> Does your friend do drugs? >> What does she do? What does she do? >> What does she do? >> I don't know. >> What? Coke. And it's not you. >> No, I don't do drugs. But why would she Oh my god. >> Why does she have your baby and not you? >> Because I was inside. We was we the baby was in there with me. >> Where's the stroller? >> And then I came out. I don't have a stroller. I had I was holding him with the um with the car seat. >> They all over that baby. >> We had a car seat. I was holding him with the car seat and then >> and then I was inside, right? And then I came and I was like, I'm going to come back. >> And then here then then this happened. >> Okay. >> And I'm telling you the honest truth. >> Where's your phone? You have a phone? >> No. Griff has I'm calling him now. >> All right. >> He has my w my phone. He dumped everything on my bag. >> Okay. >> I don't even know what else he did. He probably dropped the medicine and everything. >> We We have everything. Don't worry about that. >> Can I see? Can I get the baby? >> Not your handcuff. We're not going to >> You see my text now? >> Right now. Officer's camera. He's calm right now. >> You have all her stuff, right? >> Okay. >> Right now, we're going to have your mother >> cuz we we found drugs in the baby >> cuz we need we need to phone call the baby. We're in yellow ground. >> You know, diapers come in. We found drugs in his >> No, I'm already on that because Okay. Okay. >> Um, >> yeah, I'll figure it out. >> What does she need to say? What she need to say? That's hers. >> Okay. So, we're doing a favor and we're holding on right now >> until your mother comes. >> Both were ultimately taken to jail and now face charges including grand theft for over $12,000 in stolen merchandise and drug charges after cocaine was found in the baby's diaper. possible penalties, years behind bars, probation, loss of custody, and CPS interventions that may never fully go away. While that pregnant woman was calculating designer items to steal, other children were counting every lonely minute. On April 30th, 2025, officers were sent to a lakeside area after reports that three kids had nearly drowned with no adults around. A witness had to jump in and pull them out. 911 was called to check on the children's safety and investigate possible neglect. When police arrived, the story turned out even worse. >> Baby's up. >> 43. >> The baby is uh crying. He's up. >> You went in the water for the baby? >> I said the case. Yeah. >> Okay. Um and I have you have you seen the parents or anything like that? >> No, bro. I just was eating a hot dog on my dad's house. >> I saw from over there that the the kid wasn't playing. >> So I just ran out, throw my things and went to the water. >> One of the king. >> There's no adults in there, man. >> Yeah, there's no adults here. So yeah, they're saying the mom is at work. >> You don't know your mom's number? >> You have your mom's number? >> No. >> Okay, relax, relax, relax. What about an auntie? Somebody you know how to call somebody? No, >> you don't know how to call anybody. >> How old are you, sweetie? How old? >> Who's normally home with you guys? >> Seven. >> Yeah. >> Who's home with you guys? >> Right there. How old is she? >> Huh? >> How old are you? >> Eight. >> And you're seven? >> What's your mom's name? >> The kid was drawing. I told my man, "Oh, that that kid is drawing." So I I I I I mean I didn't think I just ran it, throw my things and one of the kids was on the corner. So I throw one of the kids out, >> the other one was drying, but the other one was more drying. >> Yeah. >> So I grabbed one that was drying. I throw that kid. >> Uhhuh. >> And as part with the other one like it was, you know, completely drying. Okay. >> The bigger one. >> Yeah. So when but the thing is that in the edge it's like a little >> it drops off >> drop off heavily. >> Yeah. >> So they didn't give me like time like like to to put in swim position stuff like that. So the kid >> these kids are growing up in a world where not knowing who to call in an emergency is just normal. No mom's number, no relatives numbers, no if something happens, here's what you do. The neighbor becomes a hero by accident and the officers have to piece together each fragment just to see what daily life really looks like for them >> with the kids. >> Okay. You So he left an 8-year-old, a seven-year-old, and a three-year-old home by themselves, and all three almost drowned in the lake had it not been for a person that witnessed it and saved them. >> So, I need you to return back to the house. Thank you. >> It's there are three kids. >> Uh one toddler that uh female toddler >> and um like me the other guy the skinny one. >> So that one really drowning that one. Okay. >> And the skinny girl that the the taller was running too. So I said first first the first ones wasn't drowning at all because I push her on my way inside. The little one. >> The little I don't I don't quite remember. But >> but >> one of them you push you push >> the push it outside. So I I I went to to grab the the toddler. >> I saved her and the kid was already inside. So Okay. >> Probably he he he saw. >> So the toddler was the one deeper in the water. >> No, the the kid >> the taller girl. >> The boy. >> Yeah. He was the deepest. >> They were the deepest. >> And then the taller girl was the next or was it the smaller one? was was the the smaller one, bro. >> The smaller one was the next the second one drowned. >> Correctly. >> Okay. So, the All right, makes sense. >> What made y'all go out there? >> They made up the game even though I told them to not to meet up the game. I said wouldn't be drowned. And then they start >> What game did they make up? like all touched the water. Then then my brother pushed my little sister in the water. >> Normally, kids test boundaries inside a safety net with adults acting as the brakes. Here, the brakes are gone. A harmless game slips into pushing a sibling into deeper water. No one yells, "Stop!" at the right time. That's the moment simple childhood play crosses the line into almost becoming a tragedy. I know what I deserve. >> I know exactly what I deserve. >> Can you stand up? >> I'm just a single mom. >> Okay. Can you stand up? >> Yes, please. I am. Forgive me. Forgive me. >> Stand up. >> Please >> stand up. >> Forgive me. Please. >> What time did you leave the house? >> Around 7:00. >> 7:00. >> Mhm. Uh, where's your son? >> He said he was on on his way home. Brian. >> Brian? >> Yes. >> When did he say he was on his way home? >> I was just talking to him before I left the house and he told me he was on his ways home. >> So, he wasn't home when you left? >> No, he told me that he he went to get something. He said, tell me that he wasn't he was home before I leave the house. Then he would leave at the same time I leave. He told me that he's going to go to get something at his friend. I said, "Okay, well, are you going to come right back?" He said, "Yes." Then I just left and go to work. >> For who? The one who's supposed to be here? >> They she left the house with him at the same time. >> So, who stayed with her? >> He told her that he was going to get something from the friend's house and he would come right back. But she had to go to work. So, she left to work. >> Okay. So, they both left the house knowingly at the same time. She knew he was leaving. She gave him permission to go to his friend's house and grab something and he was supposed to return. How old is he? 18. >> Your boy, >> ma'am. >> Stand by. >> Okay, never mind. >> Yeah, right now the detectives are on scene. So, >> mind >> until they say something. Otherwise, then >> mind >> once they once they talk to each kid, then we'll let you. Okay, >> be with that kid. It's just until we talk to them or they talk to them, then we got to keep it like it is. >> She knows exactly how close this came to disaster. This isn't a, "Oh, it wasn't that serious situation." But running alongside that reality is her script. I'm a single mom. I have to work. It's a familiar pattern, confessing just enough to sound honest, but also begging for leniency. The truth. She left home knowing the 18-year-old wasn't there, leaving three kids unsupervised next to a lake. >> You got a seat in your car. All right. I got a No. No. You can just have a seat right there. Thank you, man. We're just keeping y'all separate so that way when the detectives talk to you, nobody talked to each other and came up with whatever they're going to say. All right. So, that's why we do this. All right. I'm just going to make one attempt to talk to him and after that we >> I'm sorry. >> I'm just calling Amelia. She's okay. I don't see her coming out. >> Yeah, she's okay. She didn't come out because she's she's so young. So, for them to talk to her is >> But yeah, she's good. fire rescue checked her the most cuz she's the smallest. But she's good, >> you know. Anyway, I thank you guys. I thank God for you guys find them for me. Otherwise, it would have been worse. Would have been >> Well, it wasn't it wasn't us. >> Who are your children that were here? >> That's my sister and my kids. >> Okay. >> I'm with it. >> You okay letting your kids were your sister? person. >> Um, has she ever been arrested? >> Okay. I'm going to meet her ID. >> Okay. Something should have happened at home. So, whatever it is, I'm not as a single mom, you have to work. I I can work daytime without home. My time you know it's hard to part everything happens for >> this is the point where the family can't keep one shared version of the story anymore. Everyone has to own their part and the kids learn something harsh. Someday the person in uniform might be the one who decides what happens next. If no one explains it clearly to them, that memory hardens into a second kind of abandonment. This time right in the middle of the investigation. I'm really sorry for that. >> You are a female. I can't search you. Do you have any at all? Okay. >> Okay. Um you want me to do it in the front? You want me to do it in the back? >> Um it doesn't matter. >> So we normally hand people in the back. >> Okay. >> I'll put it in the front. I'm just letting you know. Well, but I I see that you're doing this. So, I'll just respect that. But I'm just letting you know. >> That's okay. >> You want your phone to stay with it to my sister? Everything to my sister. >> Okay. >> Yes. >> He'll explain all that to you. Just give him a second. He'll explain to you. >> All right. Thank you. All right. Thank you so much. >> [music] >> Um, okay. But my son, are they going to stay with everybody? All the children going to stay with my sisters. >> Uh, with your sister. >> My older son also. >> I I don't know. That's I don't know what's going on with your older son yet. I don't know if he's staying or I I don't think they're going to worst case scenario, they're not going to leave him with the kids again. >> Of course not. But you can the kids the kids can put my sister, but he can stay home by himself. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He's an adult. Yeah. We We have no say in that. So, >> no problem. >> All right. I'm good. Put your feet. No problem. Thank you. You're welcome. >> Uh seat belt. >> Oh, it's over here. >> Sorry. Everything happened for a reason. We're just going to thank God for what it is. My kids. Okay. That's okay. In the end, the woman was taken to jail and charged with two counts of child neglect and culpable negligence for leaving her children unsupervised, leading to a near drowning. If convicted, she could face up to 5 years behind bars, fines around $7,000, plus jail or probation, court supervision, parenting classes, and fees. It's never just a fine. And while her absence almost cost those kids their lives, somewhere else, a collapsing marriage is about to be exposed on camera. On July 19th, 2025, Escambia County deputies were called to a couple's home after reports of a violent blowup. Shouting, doors slamming, people being pushed outside. Their job wasn't just to calm things [music] down. It was to make sure everyone was safe, especially the kids, and to figure out whether this was a domestic dispute spiraling [music] into full-blown violence. >> Can you step back in the car for me? >> So, she's my ex-wife. >> Uh-huh. >> I let her move back in. Can you step in the car for me? >> I can't cuz you broke my door handle. >> I'm not sure it opens. >> You did break my door handle. I cannot open the door. >> How did you get in the first time? >> Can I get in the other car? I can't do that. >> If you keep arguing with them, you're going to end up in my car instead of yours. Okay. Have a day. >> Well, today when she she has an alcohol problem. >> Mhm. >> When she drinks, she gets aggressive and violent. >> Mhm. And I haven't talked to I called the other I called like about a week ago because I'm trying to have her removed from my house. I'm the sole owner, title owner of the property and she's a guest, >> but she's out waiter. She's outst of his drinking. >> What's going on? >> What's going on is that he is doing his manipulation and your guy there is like anti-women. >> He's just doing his job. Like I >> I understand. I understand. And trust me, I know we were married for 20 years almost. We have a grandbaby. We just had like a >> Why were you recording in the first place? >> Cuz this is >> Why were you following her? She's trying to break into the door. >> I'm just trying to keep her on camera so there's no question. >> I was just wondering cuz I saw her walking the car. >> Yeah. Go ahead. See, even though you're on video camera, you can't check me like you cannot your elbow and hit me in the I know cuz the earbuds are all [ __ ] You're not you [ __ ] Oh, really? Oh, I did my defend myself. >> I will defend myself. >> You're going to jail tonight. >> I'm done. >> Now, this is the end. Never mind. >> But I have there was one maybe this is the one where she I was standing at the door. She ran up on me and I went like this and she fell down to abuse. >> What stands out first isn't what she says, but how her mind is fighting to stay afloat. She's answering the officers while desperately trying not to emotionally collapse. The goal isn't truth, it's control. She wants to be the first one to write the script on camera, turning her husband into the only monster in the story. The problem, his video tells a very different version. Let them gone. While you're sitting there, you think they have this artic like you beat the out of women that sit there and act like they don't do anything. You think you're the first one? You think you're the first one? Huh? You think that they're not going to notice? I'm done. I hope you're >> able to email all those [ __ ] charges on you. I swear to God. >> I'll give you my email if you can just select them all real quick. >> A minute of your life in the ass. You deserve every bit of it. >> How old does she hit you today? >> Three. >> Three. >> Where at? >> Back of the head. Side of the head. >> Okay. It was it all open hand slaps or was it a closed hand at all? >> Close hand. >> Close hand. >> Just hang type. >> So, I know I act like a crazy person right now. I know I do. I have four [ __ ] kids and there are three that will tell you. Three sons that will tell you they've seen him literally almost kill me physically and he wants to play victim. Oh, she I need her to leave. Oh, he wants to play something. He wants to play something. He's mad and cuz I don't want him like multiple things. He been in jail multiple times for multiple things. And his own parents, his own family would [ __ ] notate that. But I'm the crazy one because I'm snapped. I'm 41. I have four boys. I have a grandchild. I'm going through menopause. I just got fired because of him. He got me fired from my jobs cuz he can control every part of my life. And I just snapped. And now I'm the one that's going to look like the crazy one. >> Tell me what happened in your words today. >> What happened in my words is I have not slept in 48 hours. I'm tired. My baby, my our oldest son just had a baby. They're in the hospital and they're in there for 10 days cuz he's got to be on antibiotics. So, I've been up there every day and I got choked to the point where almost passed out because >> today. Yes. Yesterday. Yesterday. Okay. Um Oh, multiple times. Like, I love how he's up there showing pretty right now. I swear to God, I have multiple videos myself, too. Multiple. >> This is how a lot of people explain away their own violence. They don't deny what they did. They just lay it on top of a big enough tragedy so their actions feel inevitable. She's clearly not some random one-time Karen. She's someone who has been living in chaos for a very long time. >> Three years ago after being married for almost 20 years of marriage. Thank God I divorced him. Unfortunately, I'm back here with him since January, which in the meantime, he has tried. I could have put that [ __ ] in prison. Happily had him locked up multiple times. I had video after video of a locked jaw. I have bruises. I have permanent scars all over my body. Okay. I'm not the violent one. I am not the violent one. I hear you. He has choked me out. Literally, I have, like I said, three kids in there, uh, 17, 13, and 10 that will tell you how he's almost [ __ ] killed me multiple times. >> I am here for them. He has done that then today. He I don't know. He just I'm not doing things like he said like he said he told my like he told my 17-year-old last night, women need to be beaten. They need to be told what to do. They need to be hit and they need to be beaten and they need to be told leather who's like my age, 41, who's going through a pan parameopause, who knows what the [ __ ] I'm going through and who has been with a piece of [ __ ] [ __ ] like him. Seriously, I'm serious. I am a girl's girl all the way. I cannot do this anymore. That cop soon as he said, "Oh, oh, miss. Oh, you'll be in my car if you keep talking." Yeah, I know. Cuz he's got you in his pocket cuz you're a [ __ ] dude. And there's been multiple of you that have been on my side, but he is not. Clearly, >> he's not on anyone's side. >> Oh. Oh, he's on the side. Like, I have four [ __ ] boys. I have A BRAVE BABY. I GET THAT GREAT BABY. I'M A [ __ ] GRANDMA. I am like I don't like the cops right now. Like, I do. Normally, I do I do like the cops, but right now they're not my favorite. Hold on one second. Just stay right here for me. Okay. She's not really saying anything about what happened today. She just keeps going on about he's beat her. He choked her yesterday. Um her son can attest to it. She hasn't slept in like 2 days. Um she just keeps circling around and around and around. I keep trying to think what happened today and you're in his pocket and that's why blah blah blah. Literally like not getting anything about what happened today. Soon the story balloons into a rant about all men. Sound familiar? If he can be painted as the standin for every terrible man on earth, then she feels justified in lashing out. But there are no photos, no medical records, no prior reports from her side. Meanwhile, he has a clear video of her hitting him right in front of the cops. >> So, what happened prior to us coming out here today? What caused us? >> Today, I took a nap literally like I've been up since 4:30 to 21. His lazy fat ass has been sleeping and I'm sorry. It's okay. I know I'm being a lot. I know I'm being a lot. It's okay. I wish I could take you inside right now and show you all the things and give you a timeline. I woke up at 4:30 this morning and I am doing my normal thing. Cleaning the house like nobody else cleans. I have four boys. Nobody cleans. We have two dogs nobody takes care of but me. And he's sleeping with his little [ __ ] light machine in his room. $7,000 machine that mixes frequency frequency. I don't care. I have a lot more things going on. No, but he locked me out of the house. I walked outside. Oh, you're locked out. I'm calling the cops. Oh, you're calling the cops after you literally CHOKED ME AND BUSTED MY GODDAMN lip >> and made my leg last night. >> I know, but I just love how he pretends like he did nothing wrong. Like, you're Mr. Officer's best friend and you're so smooth. >> Hey, you're letting him get worked up. >> I know. I know. I'm the [ __ ] crash out. This is [ __ ] I SWEAR TO GOD, EVERY WOMAN, this is [ __ ] This bull I don't care. He deserves it. That my ex-boyfriend is a piece of [ __ ] He deserves every bit of it. I hope he believes all the lies that he just got told. I don't care about that. What I care about is the fact that he I walked outside and he locked me on the house and called the cops cuz he plays games constantly. >> So, were you guys like arguing? >> He took me slapped me across the [ __ ] face. Knocked me on the ground. Yeah. Before he called you and acted like I'm the problem, he [ __ ] knocked me across the [ __ ] face. knocked me on the [ __ ] floor, smacked me multiple times he has smacked me, and I've never called the cops on him. Not one time for all this [ __ ] that he's done to me. Has that hit me so much, choked me to the point where I thought I was going to die. Literally, my 10-year-old watch watch me as my I was blacking out. Hit me to the point where my jaw clicks every time I open it for years. I have a scar on my back right here. Mhm. >> From him. multiple scars on my body from him in the last 10 years. Multiple. However, guess who went to jail for 14 hours because they broke his poor little finger? Me. Which I'm glad I broke his goddamn finger. But I went to jail. And I don't do jail. I don't do that. Like that's not me. I cannot do that. So, as crazy as I am, I cannot go to jail. I cannot do jail. But I did. And his ass was there in court on a Saturday morning first thing getting me out because he knows I don't deserve to be there. Every detail she gives is soaked in emotion, but missing basic things like timelines and consistency. She says he hit her several times before the police arrived, but that doesn't line up with his account, where he's the one with footage of her attacking him and him telling her to leave. She tries to turn a personal meltdown into a symbol of universal injustice. But the officers aren't buying it. She just keeps circling around him and around keep trying to think what happened today and >> you're in his pocket and that's why literally I'm not getting anything about what happened today. Okay. >> He slapped her, pushed her and then locked her out of the house. >> I'm getting arrested. So he hit me. He literally physically abused me multiple times and I have video of it and now I'm getting arrested. So, so I like literally my jaw is popping. I have bruises on my body and I got literally physically hurt and I'm going to jail. This This is what kind of am I paying taxes to? This doesn't even pay taxes. >> I am a taxpaying citizen literally. And you are going to put your hands on me. Get your hand. I would like to know seriously why I'm getting arrested when I want to PRESS CHARGES ON HIM. I WANT TO PRESS CHARGES on him. Can I say that right now? You can say whatever. >> Yeah. Well, uh, make a note of it. I'm pressing charges on him for [ __ ] violating me. And you, too. >> Turn around face to first. Spread your feet cuz I'm spread your feet. >> Oh, we got we got we got the people out here. Fun time in a great neighborhood. This is disgusting. Seriously, you're going to do this to me while that is in there with weed and lots of other things in there. And I can tell you what you goddamn show. Here you go, girl. I'm crazy. You [ __ ] piece of white misogynistic cop. >> Oh. Oh yeah. Oh, you better be that blacky white mother racist piece of trouble right there on the side. >> Okay. Okay. >> Oh yeah. I know. Well, they should put their right on Megan Kelly and Candace Owens and every goddamn thing else youing. >> Seriously, you suck. >> Seriously, I cannot wait. Like, I cannot wait. A mother of four and a grandmother who's never done any goddamn thing in her life. And you're like, stupid red mach. Oh, why aren't you hurt me now? Cuz I'm making fun of your stupid ass. >> Yeah, you deserve every bit of it. >> Turn the other way. >> Grandmother. grandmother, suburban mother, and this is what you're doing. THERE'S PEOPLE OUT THERE SELLING god milk and you're worried about me. >> In the end, the woman is taken to jail and charged with battery and resisting an officer without violence. Both first-degree misdemeanors. If convicted, she could face up to about 2 years in county jail, fines up to roughly $2,000, plus probation, supervision, and a protective order keeping her away. And while this nightmare wife is screaming about being filmed, somewhere else, another woman is crashing back down from her high. On June 5th, 2024, Melbourne officers responded to a traffic accident. After a brief talk with the female driver, they started noticing all the wrong signs and began to suspect she was under the influence of stimulants. From that moment, the crash report quietly shifted into a full-on DUI investigation. >> The ticket, I'm ready to go. >> Oh, I got you. But I'm not I'm not the uh officer in charge here. >> I'm not the officer in charge. So, they're still >> Where he at? >> She They're right there. So, as soon as they're ready for you, they'll let you know. All right. Just Just stay seated for a minute. Okay. >> Oh, I need you. >> Just Just stay seated, Liberty. Stay seated. >> They'll come talk to you when they're ready. Okay. >> She's the officer in charge. >> Yeah, she's the one in charge, but when she's ready, she'll come back and talk to you. Okay. Just do me a favor. Have a seat. >> Cool. Just hang tight right here. I just >> have my license on me. This is a learn. You don't have your driver's license or you just got to learn. >> I have my driver's license. >> Okay. Is that it? >> I just kept that just driving. >> Got you. >> I'm 20 like everybody else. >> We going to get there. So, I just need you to pay attention to me and listen to what I'm saying. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. So, before we ask you any questions, you must understand your rights. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in court. Do you understand each of these rights? I've explained to you over here with the pen with just your eyes. Just eyes. >> Just eyes. Don't turn your head. >> Okay. >> You good? >> I'm good, but it's just my hair is always Okay. Go. Go again. >> What's your first name, ma'am? >> Liberty. Like a statue. >> All right. Liberty. I'm going to just do the same thing she just did. Okay. Just to show her, make sure it's done completely correctly cuz I'm teaching her at the same time. Okay. Okay. She's doing good. >> Yeah, I know she is. Down by your side, Miss Liberty. Thank you. Arms down out your side, Miss Liberty. Keep your head forward. Pitch straight. All right. >> All right. So, left foot, right foot, heel to toe, arms at my side. >> Left foot. >> Don't Don't start walking yet, Miss Liberty. >> Just Just stand exactly like she is. See how she's standing heel to toe? Clinically, the substance was still in play. Unfocused eyes, choppy answers, quick giggles, and an overconfident, "I'm fine. I'm totally okay." But that laid-back, chill attitude is exactly what seasoned officers recognize as classic DUI territory. Poor attention, trouble following instructions, and a blurred line between being investigated and treating it all like a joke. >> 1, two, three. >> Yep. All the way to nine. One, two, six, three, four, five. >> Remember, a small series of steps when you get down to nine. >> Remember, a series of small steps when you get down to nine. You need me to show you again? Mhm. >> Okay. Go back to >> So, you're going to do nine down the small steps she just talked about and then nine back. Okay. >> Yep. >> Count out loud. One 2 3 four Jesus. All right. 1,00 1,00 1,002 100, 103 100, 104 100, 105 1, 106, 107, 108 100, 109 1,0 99 98 97 96 95 94 93 92 91 90 89 86 87 86 85 84 83 82 81 80 You said more >> to 70. >> Okay. At some point, the cops simply stop reacting to her emotions. They lay out clear, specific tasks, and her own body betrays every denial. The law doesn't measure how charming your laugh is. It measures safety. And here, the truth shows up in every unsteady, wandering step she takes. >> Left. All right. So, Liberty, you're under arrest for DUI. Okay. Okay. >> Place your other hand behind your back. >> I need your other hand. >> Yep. >> So, >> I need somebody to come grab my car right now. >> But we got to tow it. I'm sorry. >> Yeah. >> We got to tow it. Somebody said come out the store and get it. >> No. >> No, ma'am. >> So, what's going to happen now? We're going to put you in the car. We're going to do a quick search of the car to make sure there's nothing uh substances that would make sure that would cause you to be under the influence. It's called search incident into arrest. And so after that, a tow truck's going to come. We're going to bring that company's paperwork and bring it to you and it's going to go with you to the jail tonight. Okay. So that >> you want to tell me about before we get to what's on you. >> My phone. >> Okay, that's fine. Can you separate your feet for me? Well, let's go to the truck. >> And then right here. Okay. >> Just turn around for me. I'm just going to take your phone and just put it on top of the truck. >> Right here. Oh, >> there's flushing over whatever. >> You mind doing the part? >> I can. >> So, >> so now while we're waiting for that, >> observe this. >> Okay. So, if you see something like that, you want to pick it up in front of you, show it, make sure the body cam can see it, right? Um, for if you find anything else, take a picture of where it's at in the cup holder. Like say it's right here. You want to take a picture of where it's at. So it shows, you know, evidence that it's right next to the driver's seat. It's easy to access by a driver. That way, just for future reference, I mean, this is fine, right? The body camera caught everything, but still. >> Okay. >> Um, then you can just you open it and pour it out. Can you tighten these a little? Thank you. >> Okay. Well, they're not they're not going to be comfortable in the back seat. Okay. Um >> I know that, but they be a loose looser. >> Nah, you're good. Too loose. You might might get out of them. >> No, >> they're they're good. They're good. >> You're all right. You got enough room. What's up? Should >> use your phone. It's not my mom. >> No, you cannot use my phone. Got it. >> All right. So, you want to take a picture of that? >> Okay. I can read it to you again. Okay. >> No. >> You don't want me to read it to you again or are you saying no? >> I'm saying no to both. >> Okay. >> So, you're you don't want me to read it again and you do not want to submit to either a breath test or a urine test? >> Oh, okay. I do I do the breath test. >> You want to do the breath test? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. So, will you submit to a breath test? >> Would that make it easier? >> She realizes the giggle it away phase is over. So, she starts guessing what she thinks the officers want to hear. But they hold the line. No negotiating, just testing. When they take her to the station for a breath test, the whole story suddenly shifts into a space her words can't control anymore. >> You're sucking in. I need you to blow. >> Blow. >> Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. You okay? >> I'm hot as [ __ ] >> I can see that. >> You said hot. >> Hi. >> Ah, okay. Thank you. >> I'm ready to go home. >> Wait, wait, wait. The breath. So, I failed. >> No, you passed the breath. Now, we got to go do our urine. We got to get some. >> Let's go for what? Let's see what >> to see if there are any in your system. Any chemical or control substance. Bro, I CAN TURN AROUND. I CAN TURN AROUND. I CAN TURN AROUND. >> You're not going to go to >> WHAT THE GET THE WHO? I'M A HANDCUFF. >> Sit down. >> Just have a seat and relax. >> Have a seat AND RELAX. >> OKAY, I SIT DOWN. Y'ALL NEED TO STOPING TOUCHING ME. >> OKAY. >> OKAY. You're the one standing up on us and pulling away from us. >> THE [ __ ] YEAH, CUZ YOU DOING YOUR MOTHERING JOB. THEN this act like she need a mother sidekick. >> STOP PLAYING WITH ME, BRO. >> HAVE A SE. You should be. >> You got this hole with her hands around my back. I need her. Please >> make sure there was no rap on LT's office. >> Can I sit down? Yes, we've been asking you to sit down. >> Can this in the back of me stop touching you? >> When you cooperate, she will. >> Okay, >> STOP. I'M I'M SITTING DOWN. >> Are you going to stay sitting? >> I'M GOING TO STAY SITTING DOWN. >> The moment that sample is handed over, the mask drops. She flips from innocent and playful to furious and screaming, casting herself as the helpless victim, even though she was the one behind the wheel in a DUI investigation. At that level of emotional meltdown, officers are forced to use the WAP restraint to keep everyone safe, including her. >> I was STRAIGHT TO THE GIRL WITH PUTTING HER HANDS ON ME. >> She has TO TOUCH YOU. >> UNDERSTANDABLE, BUT ACT LIKE >> YOU'RE NOT ACTING LIKE you understand. >> I You're not listening to me. >> I am listening, but you're not understanding us. >> What are YOU WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY? >> We have to touch you to do stuff. >> Okay, I understand. >> We're not going to put our hands on you for fun. >> I understand that, right? >> Liberty, this is YOUR LAST BRO, I GET OUT BY MYSELF. BYE. WHAT the I'm going to move her down. So, the knees are on the knees part. Ow. WHAT THE IS Y'ALL DOING? WHAT THE [ __ ] WHY? >> Roll her on her left. >> So on that s >> you going um >> rapify >> man. I don't want no [ __ ] head back. >> This is part of it. >> What the [ __ ] is wrong with y'all? What is we riding on a motorcycle? What the [ __ ] man? Get off and blow me, bro. >> Get her hair out of it. There we go. >> Is this your stuff up here? >> It's what stuff mine the blow. Y'all is y'all going to stand me up? What are y'all doing? Well, >> we're opening up the car right now first. Oh. Where that? You don't got to turn me, boy. I ain't I'm already handcuffing all that extra. But hey, you don't have TO DO ALL THAT, BOY. What the [ __ ] You tripping. What the [ __ ] >> All right. >> You want to get that arm? You got that arm, Diaz? And then you want to get this side. In the end, she's taken to jail and charged with DUI involving property damage, reckless driving under the influence of stimulants, resisting an officer, and battery on a law enforcement officer. On paper, a full conviction could mean jail time, license suspension, heavy fines, mandatory treatment, and probation. In reality, she takes a plea deal, 12 months probation, a $1,534 fine, 10 hours of anger management, and 50 hours of community service. She came down from her high with a hug. But next, alcohol drags another woman into a desperate doomed robbery. On April 26th, 2024, officers were called to a store over a dispute about a supposedly stolen vape. When they made contact, they quickly suspected the woman was under the influence of alcohol or other substances. She kept fighting every instruction, escalating the situation, and then in just a few seconds, everything flipped. step out and talk to me, please. I'm officer Cornel. >> I paid for my baby. >> Okay, let's just uh let's talk about it. Okay, we'll talk about it over here. >> Okay, will you stop? >> Okay, so um first off, what's your name, ma'am? >> Carol. >> You spell it K A R E N. >> And do you have a license on you? I do. Was it, Miss Karen? >> Strawberry. Sorry, but I think >> Here's what we're going to do. Instead of having you messing around uh just looking through the car, let me get you to step out. Okay. >> It's not in here. >> That's okay. Just let me get you to step out. Okay. So, you're saying that you didn't take it? >> I didn't. >> Okay. But you said you paid for it. Do you have your receipt where you paid for it? She didn't pay for it and she just want to go without paying her just >> make a pay or return me back. >> So his system is telling is saying that >> Hold on. Hold on a second. Um >> I'll pay again. Yes, she going to pay. >> I have the cigarette. >> Yo, I already had it. >> No, I don't have this. You walked off. >> I don't have it in my car. You guys saw >> Let's go this way. All right, here's what this guy, do you mind? Since they're saying that you walked out with it and they're saying that they have video of you walking out with it, do you mind if I look in your passenger compartment? Okay, so I'm going to hand you this. I'm going to hand Have you step with this officer and stand right here? Miss Karen. Hey. >> Oh, hold on. Don't get back in the car. >> She walked into this as if the whole world was out to get her while the body cam quietly captured the opposite. The cops were actually giving her the soft exit. Pay, apologize, go home. But she was the one who refused to take it. >> Why are you guys so mean? >> Why are you guys so mean? >> What do you mean? >> Why are you so mean? >> Like step over here like I got to go get him out. >> And I was speaking loud enough so you could hear me >> cuz I had asked you another time. Hey, come over here. And you kept walking to your car. And when you keep walking to your car, then I'm going to raise my voice and tell you >> I'm 30 years. >> And we'll go in and we'll try to figure out a solution. There you go. >> Thank you so much. I appreciate your help. >> So, here's the thing. How much wine have you had today? >> Not much, but >> not much. >> No. >> 4 ounces. >> 4 ounces. Okay. What kind of medication do you take? >> I don't take any >> No medication. or do you take any other anything else that would probably be a little unsteady? Nothing like that. Okay. Um, so here's the thing. If that's the case, that's fine. Would you mind if I check your eyes just to make sure that you are safe to drive before I let you to pull out of here? >> Of course. >> Okay. All right. Um, do you have any type of head conditions or anything else like that that would impair you from following my finger? >> No. >> Nothing like that. Do you have any injuries with your balance, hips, anything like that? Okay. Um, what we're going to do, let's get you right over here and then I'm just going to check you. Make sure you're good. They weren't frustrated because of her attitude. They were alarmed because she smelled like alcohol and was wobbling toward a running vehicle. At that point, it wasn't about ego anymore. It was about public safety. The camera records what the law cares about. Delayed reactions, loss of motor control, and the inability to follow even simple commands. All right. You can blink. >> We got a couple more rounds of that. Okay. >> All right. Right here. It's hard not to sp my head. >> Just move your eyes. >> Okay. >> Try that. Just move your eyes. Okay. >> Uhhuh. All right. Just move your eyes. No, don't move your head. >> Just follow. Okay. Just follow with your eyes. Okay. Don't move your head. This wasn't just drunken clumsiness. It was a lifestyle of resisting any form of control. Most people, even intoxicated, will cooperate once they sense arrest on the horizon. But she fought the entire process as if compliance itself was the real threat. >> I want you to keep your hands down by our side. Okay. I want you to put your left foot on the line. And then I want you to put your right foot in front of your left foot. Just like that. So return back to the back to where I had you. Okay. I'm going to get you into a starting position and I want you to stay in that position until I tell you to begin. Okay? So get right back on the line where you were. All right. Left foot on the line just like you have it. Right foot in front of the left foot in a heel totoe fashion just like I'm showing you. Can you do that? >> [laughter] >> Sorry. No, my kid. >> Do you have balance? Any any injuries? >> I do. I have um >> Hold on, >> Miss Car. >> That's not what we're going to do. Okay. >> Hands behind your back. >> No, you're not. >> Miss Car, please don't. Okay, let's not do that. Put her in handcuffs. Let's not do that. Can you please? >> No, ma'am. We cannot. Okay. Cuz you were driving under the influence. >> You're under arrest. >> 600 295 signal one. Miss Karen. >> Yeah. >> Hold on. Hold on. >> Can I drive home? >> No. No. You cannot drive home. >> I'm driving home. >> No, you're not, ma'am. You are way too intoxicated to drive home. >> I'm not. >> Yes, ma'am. You are. You can't even walk in a shoreline. Drive. That's hurting very badly. >> Okay. Well, just hold on. Okay. >> Can you please let me out a bit? >> No, ma'am. >> Cuz you have driven here very intoxicated. Okay. Um, go ahead and do this. >> She showed the classic illusion of control, denying legal procedure as if the law only applies when she personally agrees. And when her real power runs out, she clings to tiny things. Her bag, her vape, just to feel like she still owns something at this moment. It's a common defense mechanism when someone senses their authority collapsing. >> Your privilege to drive upon the highways of the state upon your submission to state administer chemical tests in your blood, breath, urine, or other bodily substances for the purpose of determining if you're under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you refuse this testing, your Georgia driver's license or privilege to drive upon the highways of the state will be suspended for a minimum period of >> I'm refusing it. So you you not only >> I'm driving home. >> Well, okay. >> Let me unhook me. >> All right. You have a right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you of law. You have a right to an attorney if you cannot afford to hire one. One will be appointed to represent you for any questioning if you wish. Okay. >> She slivered right under those. >> Put the put your uh >> let me the go. >> No. Under arrest. >> I'm not. I'm refusing arrest. Well, if you keep refusing arrest, then we're just going to have to go back and forth with you, and then that's going to cause you I'm refusing arrest. >> You can't do that, man. >> I am doing that. >> Now you're going to jail for DUI and obstruction. >> That was really ar you're killing. >> Well, because you just slipped out of my handcuffs, so now I got to get them tied on you. No. Walk this way. Please don't make me carry you. I really don't want to do that. Can I get my vape and my keys? >> I will get everything for you. Okay. >> I refused to rest. Why are you still arresting me? >> That's You were You can't do You can't refuse arrest, ma'am. Okay. Just like you can't drive intoxicated and you can't slip out of handcuffs. >> Uh we'll get your keys and everything. Okay. >> Just take them off. >> No, ma'am. That's not happening. and if you slip out of them again, then it's not going to be good. Okay. >> In the end, she was arrested and charged [music] with petted theft, DUI, reckless driving, and obstruction after trying to walk away, refusing commands, and slipping out of her handcuffs. If convicted, she could face license suspension, fines, up to 12 months of probation or jail time, mandatory alcohol treatment, DUI court, and random alcohol drug testing. A drunken stumble might take one person down, but the anger of I'm being treated unfairly can take an entire police response with it. On March 31st, 2024, Lantana officers were investigating a traffic crash when another vehicle suddenly stopped right in front of them. A woman stepped out, wreaking of alcohol, slurring words, barely able to stand, and just like that, the focus of the night shifted to her. >> Do me a favor, step out of >> Huh? I will 100%. I'm so sorry. >> Okay, that's good. Smell the car. >> I am >> Charlie. All right. >> Took my shoes off. >> Okay. >> Hey, just working. I'm out with my vehicle, too. Their 10 just showed up. >> Sorry. Um, excuse me. I just >> Okay, get in there. Get me your license. I have that in my purse right here. >> All right. >> I'm sorry. I'm a little emotional. I was crying about something. >> Oh, what were you crying about? >> Do you want to know? >> Yeah, that's why I'm asking. Yeah, >> because it's Easter and my boyfriend broke up with me today. >> I'm sorry to hear that. >> Yeah. Are you sure? >> I am. Do you have your driver's license? >> I do. It's right here. I was just closing it. All right. >> No, you didn't. You slammed it. Let's go over here to the sidewalk. >> Okay. >> I just want to get you out of the street. All right. >> Well, actually, you're heading into the street right now, which is >> Well, we've got we've got the street blocked. All right. We're going over here to the sidewalk. >> Thank you. >> Uh-huh. Step up there. All right. Now, I'm Officer Murdoch with the Lantana Police Department. >> I can't understand a word you said. >> I am Officer Murdoch with the Lantana Police Department. >> You are officer what? I can't understand. Murdoch. >> Yes. >> With the antenna, please. Officer Murdoch, if if you can't understand me saying it, it's it's here if you need to be able to read it. Okay. >> The reason I have you out of your vehicle right now is because I could smell the uh the scent of an alcoholic beverage coming from your coming from your breath when I was talking to you. Okay. All right. With that being said, what I'm going to do now is I'm going to conduct a DUI investigation. >> Okay. >> All right. Because you're obviously operating. >> Did you ask me if I can have that done? >> If you could have what done? Did you ask me if I could have that done? [clears throat] >> Are you asking if I asked your consent to do a DUI investigation? >> I did not because I'm not. >> Here's here's what I'm going to ask. >> But you didn't ask me for that. >> Instead of facing objective reality, she changed the battlefield to the sequence of questions. It's a classic move. When you're losing on the facts, you attack the procedure, hoping that if you can expose one technical flaw, the whole investigation collapses. In her mind, if she can still challenge the process, she still has power. >> Are you willing to conduct these tasks or no? >> Did you ask me that before you pulled me? >> Did I ask you to do this before I asked you to step out of the car? No. The answer to your question is no, I didn't. >> But now I have when you when you stopped me, >> ma'am, do you want to continue to tell me how to do my job or do you want to work with me? >> What would be the best way? The best thing for you to do right now is to cooperate and complete these standardized field sobriety task. Conduct these standardized field sobriety tasks. Yes or no? >> Are you on a camera right now? >> This is recording right now. >> Okay. Yes, I would be willing to conduct the tests that you >> are requesting. >> I are requesting. >> Okay. You want to get those? Okay. Let's get those underway then. All right. completed these tasks with your shoes off. I know that those are those are heels. They've got you. >> Absolutely not. Because I am driving in this and that is my >> Okay. If I I'm just offering I'm >> ask if you can do it with this. >> I can do Yep. Exact. I can >> you do it with the heels on? >> I've never worn heels. I don't know. No. Do you understand the task? >> Do you understand the task? I actually can't watch a ver a light anyways. Why >> would you like to ask if I'm if I have spectrum or something like that? >> Okay, you're right. Let's let's ask some questions. What do you What do you do for a living? >> Teach people how to save themselves from drowning. >> Okay. You're like you're you're a swim instructor. >> No, like if you died right now in the pool for 23 seconds. >> Mhm. You're a life saving instructor. Okay. resting nestagmas or anything wrong with your eyes? >> Resting stagmatism with my eyes. >> Has a doctor ever mentioned that to you before? Have you Have you ever heard the phrase uh nestagmas? >> It's not the right word, honey. I'm so sorry. It's not the right word. >> What's the right word? >> A stigmatism. >> Okay. Okay. >> Okay. So, it's a stigmatism and like >> Do you have a Do you have a stigmatism? >> I do. When When lights go like Yeah. And I wear I have contacts. >> You have contacts in >> and it bothers me when lights go like that like crazy. >> So you've never heard the word nestagmas. >> It's not a word. >> She heard a few technical terms and immediately weaponized them. This wasn't cluelessness. It was using halfbaked knowledge as a shield. Just say you said it wrong and maybe you can tank the officer's credibility on the spot. The problem is she has no idea what she's trying to correct. And you're freaking me out because all of that is like follow the way. >> Okay. I'm so excited that you're great at this, but you're actually not. Like I understand like pupils and stuff like that and you're >> I need you to follow that. >> Okay. Sorry. I know you're following directions. willing to conduct the walk and turn task or no? >> I don't even know what that is. >> Okay, I can demonstrate to you. All right. >> I'm so tired. It's so cold. >> Okay. All right. I'll try and get this over with real quick. Okay. So, what I need you to do is imagine Oh, imagine a straight line from your feet straight forward. Can you imagine that line for me? >> Can you draw it for me? >> Can I draw it for you? >> Yeah. >> Give me just a second. Hey, Sarge. >> Yeah. with like some >> Sarge, do you have any duct tape in your uh car or anything to >> to lay a straight line? >> Do you want to do you want to use the Do you want to complete this task or not? >> I want you to prove a straight line. >> This is a straight line. We can debate. >> I want you to put a chalk. >> I don't have chalk available. I don't have anything available. >> Then show me what a straight line is. >> This is a straight line. You can either use it or not. I'm I'm giving you the option to use this line or not. Do you want to complete this task, >> babe? Do you want to prove a straight line or you want to complete this task because this is the line we're going to use. If you don't want to use this line, then we're not going to complete the task. I'm going to put it in >> my phone. >> I'm going to put it as a refusal. >> Uh, then do that and then get a video of >> So, you don't want So, you don't want this line. You don't want to do the walk and turn. >> I'm saying to you, do you want to complete this or not? >> I want to complete this. Do you want to complete this? >> I do. Are you going to tell me I'm going to pass it or not? >> Ma'am, do you I'm I'm giving you every opportunity I can. Okay. >> You're not going back to your car right now. >> Why? Why can't I go back to my car? Because you're the boss. >> Because right now we're under We're doing an investigation. So, you're not entering your vehicle. >> Do you want to use this line or No. >> So, give me a give me a computer that shows me. >> I don't have a computer level. Okay. Let's Let's forget the walking turn. Let's Let's forget the walking turn cuz you're not going to comply with that. All right. Face me. >> Karen is terrified of being judged, but only accepts standards she personally creates. Anytime the officer gives her a fair benchmark, she moves the goalposts again, insisting the results don't count yet. To protect her self-image, she'd rather destroy the measuring stick than admit she's losing control. >> You understand the pass that I'm giving you? >> No, because you said one and two and three and then you didn't give more instructions past that. >> Okay. What do you not understand? >> How many seconds am I doing it for? until until I tell you to stop. >> Okay. So, like until you're the boss of one. >> Are you understanding the task or not? >> Not really. >> Okay. >> Can I have more? Can I have like one, two? >> How high do you need me to count for you to feel comfortable? >> You're the boss. >> Well, I'm asking you. I'm trying to I'm trying to work with you. I'm giving you the instructions. Okay. And you're asking questions. I'm trying to help you out. >> Great. So, we're trying to figure it out. >> Okay. It's the way the task goes. Are you wanting to complete it or no? >> Well, that sounds tough. Like, that sounds like the hardest instructor ever. Like, tell me. >> I'm not going to have you with one leg up for 5 minutes. It's not going to be that long. But that's the >> Well, tell me the truth. Tell me what I have to get you, and then I'm ready. >> Okay. When I am, you know, like when you're an instructor. >> Okay. When I'm completing this task, >> I'm going to have you with your foot up for 30 seconds. >> If you give me 30 seconds, can you do 30 seconds? >> I'm asking you to complete 30 seconds. Okay. Are you >> I'm asking you. >> Okay. Are you wanting to Yes, I'm asking you because this is an opportunity for you. Are do you want to complete this task or not? >> I will try. >> Okay. So, what I need you to put down for a minute. >> I mean, >> you're going to lift You're going to lift your foot approximately 6 in off the ground. All right. While you're completing this task, don't start yet. >> A so hard just to be >> while you're completing this task. >> Even if I was doing yoga with you right now, this would be tough. >> You're making me so stressed out. >> Okay. I'm trying to I'm trying to give you an opportunity and explain everything to you. Okay. >> I'm so sorry for your instruction about this. >> Do you understand the task or No, >> no. I'm protected by them. >> All right. You can come back over this way. They're gone. >> Put me to it over here cuz I feel I feel that that's dangerous over there on the road. >> Ma'am, we're going to conduct the tasks here or we're going to go. >> I Do you want to conduct the wall? Do you want to conduct the one leg stand or No. >> Can we do the one leg stand, I guess? Like the one leg stand? >> No. It is conducted. in a standardized field sobriety task. Standardized meaning done the same way every time by everybody. So >> get it. Sorry for you. >> Do you want to complete it or no? >> She stops arguing against the test itself and switches to the I don't understand explain again technique. A stalling tactic with no finish line. Calling the cop boss, equal parts flattery and sarcasm suggests he's bullying a cold, tired woman with back pain. But there are only two options here. Cooperate and face the honest result or refuse and face legal consequences. >> While you're completing this task, if you choose to do so, >> you're going to get Did we get distracted by a train? >> No, I did not get distracted by a train. You got distracted by a train. >> Oh, you did. >> Okay. When you're completing this task, what you're going to do is you're going to keep your foot lifted, your toe pointed. You're going to look down at your point your toe. You're going to look down at your foot and you're going to count out loud. >> 100 1,002 1 3 100 400 >> Hands down by your side. >> Oh, I'm sorry. 1007. >> All right. I didn't tell you to start, so put your foot down. >> Oh, you didn't tell me to start. >> No, I said wait till I tell you to start. >> Oh, boy. >> All right. When does When does the 6 seconds start? >> All right. Do me a favor. Go ahead and turn around. >> Turn around. >> No. >> All right. You're under arrest with No. Ma'am, don't don't start this. >> Oh my god. >> Ma'am, don't resist. Just cooperate. >> I I didn't do anything. I did nothing wrong. >> Stay there. >> I did nothing. >> Jewelry to come with you to the jail or do you want to leave it in your car? >> I What? >> You want to leave in the car? Put them in your purse. >> Separate keys. >> Ma'am, stop pulling away from me. >> I'm not going to break it if you hold still. >> Okay, I'll take this one off. You know what? I'm not going to break it. Just don't move. Okay. >> In the end, she drove up to an active crash scene while intoxicated, refused proper cooperation with field sobriety tests, and derailed the investigation with non-stop arguments. She was charged with DUI, refusal to submit to alcohol testing, and failure to comply with lawful commands. If convicted, she could face up to 6 months in jail, a one-year license suspension, fines up to $2,000, probation, and mandatory DUI rehabilitation. On February 1st, 2024, in a Dollar Tree parking lot, officers responded to reports of a [music] strange woman wandering around, asking for rides, and trying to steal people's car keys. But they had no idea they were about to witness a full-blown disaster unfold right before their eyes. >> The address. Some lady just tried to take my keys. I do not know the address. >> Somebody tried to take your keys. >> Yeah. And she walked up asking me for if I could get her out of this place. And then she tried when she's sitting there staring at me. She then um when I went to go close my door, she went in to come get my keys. And then she tried to open my door again after I locked it. >> When did this happen? About how many minutes? >> Just now. She's walking around the parking lot right now. And I'm pretty sure she knows that I'm calling you >> right now. 30 to 40. >> Walk over to the back. >> No. STOP. STOP. STOP. OH MAN, SHE JUST GOT IN MY CAR. Took off. >> He's bound on Highway 40 passing the sub station. >> Oh, she just got in with the sheriff. She just got inside the sheriff's car. She is Oh my god. He's out on [music] Highway 631. I'm behind them. She is going westbound on 40. She has lights and sirens on running opposite sides of traffic. >> Were you the one who called us? >> Yes. Do you want me to stay on the line? I'm with the sheriff right now. >> You have your ID? >> Um, it's in the car. I'm still like really >> They're heading into the woods. They're heading into the forest. 26 eastbound on Highway 40. >> 126 26 4 >> 600 Marian speeds are about 110. We're still eastbound on 40. >> 104 speeds 110 eastbound on 40. >> She's still extremely signal 12. This woman wasn't just reckless. She was dangerously impulsive and calculating. She saw her opening and stole a police cruiser the moment an officer looked away. Then during the high-speed chase, she blared the sirens and mocked police over the radio, completely delusional and blatantly defiant of the law. >> Are you okay? I'm I'm a little shaken. I've never had that happen to me before, so I'm No, I'm a little I'm a little shaky. >> Austin, I need help. >> This is a fake um route. >> 6531 Mary. I believe that's going to be her coming across the radio. She just passed the packing sack going eastbound. Her speeds are well over 100. I'm trying to keep up. I'm just keeping eyes on the lights. >> Speeds are still 105. We're still going eastbound. >> Speed 115 Marian. She just turned around. She's now going westbound. >> Yeah. 47 westbound. >> Excuse me. I need the real police. Let's switch back to 2 so you can't key up. All units on the 13 switch. How much fuel? >> Probably around 3/4 of a tank. I filled it up this morning. >> Right here. Right here. Right here. Well, I know that. I'm just double checking if I get the opportunity to do so. Is it 104? We're still westbound on 40. Just past road 33,00 block still. >> Her name was Kendra. Fresh out of jail just days earlier. With 13 prior convictions, she tore through city [music] streets at over 110 mph, weaving through traffic and even driving into oncoming lanes. There was no fear, no hesitation. It was like she knew she had nothing left to lose and she didn't care who got hurt. She's going to be the first car. I'm the second car. The lights are on. temp or I'm going to lay off a little bit. TS are still about 90 95 advisor coming up behind an 18heer and she's turning around. She's conducting a U-turn. She is going eastbound on 40. >> Speeds are up to 105. We're still eastbound. >> Reference that pit if you do have a safe >> air. We got approve of worm. Just a couple minutes now. >> Signal four. Signal four. Signal four. for station 1033. >> All right. All right. Right here. You're good. Good job. >> Stay away from the car. Stay away from the car. >> Back up. Back up. Back up. Back up. Back up. Back up. >> We got another vehicle over here. You guys okay? >> Hello. >> Another vehicle. You guys okay? >> Forward to another vehicle. >> I'm not getting a response from them. >> Then the worst happened. Kendra slammed head-on into a pickup truck carrying three elderly people. No brakes, no swerving, just destruction. Flames engulfed the car, and when officers got to the scene, one victim wasn't moving. It looked like a suicide mission. One that took innocent lives down with her. >> Hey, Mill, get my fire extinguisher. Fire extinguisher. Fire extinguisher. Get it over here. Get it over here. >> I'm getting it. I'm getting it. >> Go. Where's yours? Let me grab yours. >> It's really hot right here. Really hot. Mine's unlocked. It's unlocked. It's unlocked. >> It should be on the right. Any vision? Any contact talking? >> At least three occupants. >> Sheriff's off. Is everyone okay? partner is calling 911 for you. I help you send to my location. Can anyone hear me? >> I need if she's right there. I don't know if you can get through that hole. All right. Um, we got the road block next on the way. >> Unrespond. >> Kendra died instantly. So did the couple in the front seat. The third victim, sitting in the back, passed away 2 weeks later in the hospital. Kendra left behind three young kids and a long history of untreated mental illness. Records show she had written what sounded like a suicide note. Almost like she knew this would happen or planned it. >> You're not hurt, are you? >> No. >> Okay. >> Three in the car. Sarge signal 7. >> How is Witty? Is he okay? >> I believe. I'm so mad right now, bro. >> Hey, don't beat yourself up because now she's just caused three people to [ __ ] die cuz she wouldn't that [ __ ] pushed back by the pound. Get it back. >> Oh, >> you can't control anybody else's actions. >> No, I seen and she was going around the semi and I knew but I thought it was just going to be her and I'm like, "All right, that's fine. It's just her. No, you're seeing nothing. >> You're good. You're good. You're good. Sit down. Sit down. >> I want to check this one real quick. If we can break one of them free, but >> believe to be. >> This is so wrong. >> You want? >> Yeah. >> I guess Woody left his car open and they're dealing with this crazy lady and she stole his car. >> They They call her >> Kendra's case isn't just a personal tragedy. It's a systemic failure. A broken criminal justice system, a mental health network that wasn't paying attention, and lapses in law enforcement procedure. Kendra took three lives, yes, but she didn't act alone. The system failed all of them. This is a wake-up call about what happens when society stops watching the people who need help the most. On February 16th, 2025, a couple got kicked out of a bar for causing a scene and trespassing. But just minutes later, police were called again. This time, the husband was allegedly choking his wife [music] right in front of their kids. And that was only the beginning. >> Seriously? >> No. Being honest with you. No. >> No. Because now we have a witness saying something happened back here. So >> So what's happened? >> Do you want to go Do you want to go that route? >> No. No. No. >> Cuz we'll go that route. >> No. No. No. What happened? >> Be honest with you. I tried to get everything. So >> right. Well, so two problems exist right now. One, they told us that you were choking her against the car. Okay. Okay. So, that's not going to be Let's check the camera. So, that's problem. Let's check. I'm going to I'm going to s behind. Let's check the camera. >> Okay. >> That's problem one. Problem two is you're plastered and you're sitting in the driver seat of the car with the with the keys. >> No, no. Okay. Sitting baby. >> They say that I strangle you. Let's see the cameras. What are they? And we go and see the cameras. Let's see the cameras. Yeah. >> I don't give a >> You get in the car. >> No. Stupid ass mother in the car. >> You see me? You see me? I see you. I see you. Stupid ass mother. >> Who's getting in the car? >> No. Are you kidding me? >> Yes. No. I'm already kidding. >> He was choking me. Are you kidding me? >> That's what they told you. >> Somebody told you. Now you are the mother. >> Borderline disorder. I don't want to take you to jail. So just relax. Just relax. >> [ __ ] you. >> Angelo is RIGHT THERE. >> I KNOW IT WAS RIGHT THERE. This mother. You're supposed to protect. YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO [screaming] >> STAND BACK FOR >> WHY YOU NOT PROTECTING ME? >> Why are you not protecting? >> Why you trying? Why you not? >> I'm so sorry. Please. >> Inside. They're reporting that he was strangling her. He's Applebee's reviewing camera footage. She's encroaching on me. I had to push her away. >> I'm tired of you. >> The woman screamed that he was choking her. Yet, both kept denying everything while cussing each other out like it was normal. Tensions were high and with kids around, officers had to act fast to deescalate the chaos and protect that child from further harm. >> Hey, come here. >> Don't touch me. Why you touching? >> WHY YOU TOUCH ME? WHY? [screaming] BACK UP. BACK UP. >> WHY YOU TOUCHING? >> JUST BE DETAINED. >> [screaming] >> BEHIND YOUR BACK NOW. >> BEHIND YOUR BACK. STOP RESISTING. STOP. >> WHY IS THAT? [screaming] >> WHY IS THIS? >> PLEASE. >> PLEASE. There he is. >> Just go with together. Let's go together. Okay. >> No. Let's go. Don't scare him. Don't scare him. >> I'm not scaring him. You're scaring him. You scared him. No. If you say that, No. If you say that, he's going to think that you He's just going to come with me. >> Puppy, come here. It's not It's no problem. Come here, puppy. >> You're okay, buddy. Come here. Trying to figure something out. >> Come here, puppy. >> PLEASE. [screaming] Everything is okay. Please, >> buddy. What's your name? >> Um, >> yes, puppy. >> What's your name, baby? >> Angelo. Angelo. Okay. Everything's going to be okay. All right. I don't want you to be afraid. Okay. >> Well, I don't have my mom anymore. >> Puppy. >> You're still You're still going to love your mom. Okay. >> You're okay, buddy. We're just trying to figure stuff out. Okay. That's all we're trying to do. >> Okay. Can I say something? Puppy. Listen to me. Puppy. They're just with mommy. Okay. They're going to be okay. She's going to get out. She just fall. Okay. >> But but but mommy's being so mean. >> Yeah, I know. She's being mean. Oh, >> yeah. >> I just want Do you want to come talk to me over here, baby? >> I haven't used force yet, so I'll let you guys. Unless you need me. >> Uh, so you were back there? >> I I was going to take the trash out. >> Yeah. >> So, when I was taking the trash out, I hear somebody screaming. >> Uh-huh. >> So, when I heard somebody screaming, that's what I came out and told him. I said, "Man, the dude in the back parking lot cuz me and him have to close that night." >> Still, you see what I'm saying? >> Yeah. What what exactly did you see? >> I've seen him grabbing her against the car that great car. Yeah. >> She needs to watch this footage sober, especially in court when her own son choked back tears and said, "Mom, you're a bad person." That poor kid was clearly traumatized. Between witness accounts and mom's behavior, this was textbook domestic abuse. >> By like the arms, like holding her to run from me. She was like, "Leave me alone. I'm going to die." 97 with the unit. >> STOP. [screaming] LOOK. >> NO. NO. >> Make this easier. >> No. No. No. [screaming] Look. Stupid. Look at my hand. Stupid. Look at my hand. >> What part of your hand? >> The leg. >> You can get fingers in there. >> Yeah, I can. On both sides. >> All right. >> Okay. Like listen, it hurts. My wrist hurting. MY WRIST ARE HURTING. MY WRIST are in the car. We go. My heart. [screaming] My heart. My heart. >> All right. So, here's what I got. >> And he's being cooperative. >> Semi, >> not like this. So, >> well, well, I was with my aunt and they come to pick me up and then mommy was so grumpy and then we left our car and then mommy was and then mommy got so mean to the like thing that that she was tired that that every time she gets tired, she always names and get out of control. >> Yeah, exactly. >> And and and >> were you guys driving in the car tonight? It's okay. >> Yeah, we were driving and then we looked up and then we didn't know where we parked. >> But I don't know why my mom wants to be so mean to the to the policees. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Is she ever mean to you? >> No, not mean to you. Okay. Is she's a good mommy to you? >> Yeah, she she never gets accept like that. >> She's still going to be a good mommy after this. Okay. >> Okay. What? But am I going to get a new family? >> No, baby. You're not going to get a new family, okay? You're still going to have your family. Your mommy and daddy love you very much. >> Watching that little boy shaking broke my heart. It's unthinkable. Parents fighting like animals in front of their child. He even tried to cover for his mom, blaming her actions on being tired. All while he was the one hurting. And still, he said he loved her and just wanted the family back together. That kind of loyalty is painful to watch. >> I don't even know what I on cop. I know you were driving. Why you put me on cop? >> I've already told you. I'm trying to tell you again, but you keep cutting me off. >> Okay, so you No, no. Can you cut me off? >> No. >> Oh, no. >> No. >> Okay. What's your name on your butt? >> Collins. 1830. >> Okay. Beautiful. We have the report. >> No, no, it's okay. I just want to move. Okay. I can move. >> I know you can cuz you're handcuffed. >> Oh, I can't. So, what for what reason you handcuff? >> I've told you and I've tried to tell you, but you keep putting me off. Would you like me to tell you again? >> No. No. I'm so sorry. >> Tell you again? >> No. No. No. >> Would you like me to tell you? >> Oh. Why am I a handcuffed? >> Yes. >> Yes, sir. >> You like me to tell you? >> Yes, sir. >> Without cutting me off? >> No. No. I'm so sorry. Yeah, I'm sorry. >> Okay. Okay. I accept your apology. >> Okay. So, the reason you're handcuffed is because we have reports that there was a physical altercation between you and her. >> Okay. And you Okay. You have you have cameras. >> That's what we're doing. But right now, right now, you are a suspect and you guys were both over here in an altercation. >> I'm trying to calm her. How is that annotation >> for me? For me. >> You're cutting me off again. I'm done talking. >> Stop me. It's defy the man. You have to give me a reason why you stop. >> And you're not listening cuz you're drunk. >> Oh, so what? So you give me the reason. No, no, no. You give me a reason. They just stop me because my wife. That's what you're saying, right? >> No. >> No. So what you saying? For what? >> There is a report for people. >> You're cutting me off. >> For people? For people? Beautiful. >> Beautiful. >> No, it's okay. >> Brother, you don't want to listen to me. I don't even moving. I'm trying to tell you. >> She is in custody. >> Can you can you explain Can you explain me? >> Uh I talked to the cook. He didn't say strangulation. >> He said uh he said he had her by like the arms and was pinning her up against the car. >> I was putting her in the >> Okay, you will see that in the video. It's no problem at all. So when he was the other problem, you guys were trespassing this [music] property and you're now back on this property. >> No, sir. No, sir. Being honest with you, I asked her in the phone of the property, >> brother. I was here when they trespassed you. >> Trespassing for you. No, no, no. I'm asking, but it's trespassing for you. We do. >> The husband wouldn't stop interrupting and arguing, acting like the rules didn't apply to him. Even with calm officers, he refused to cooperate. The wife ended up facing three serious charges. Hector's charges were lighter, but still enough to get him detained. >> Incredible is how long the call was, and he's trying to say like, "What are you talking?" >> Be honest with you, I come back because I don't remember you telling me that I come here because if not, I'm not so dumb. They come back when you tell me that I can come. >> Be honest with you. >> Here you are. So, you tell me. >> No, no, no. That's what I'm saying. I'm going to wait for the video. >> Hey, so um we're going to be taking them out of here. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Their car is outside your door. This is private property and if they come back here, they're subject to arrest >> cuz they're trespassed. >> Okay. >> So, if you leave the car or tow the car, it's entirely up to you. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Sounds great. >> Yep. Take care. >> Yeah. Yeah. No worries. >> That's crazy. >> You trying to tell you have a little more room? >> Yeah. No, I like >> No, I know. There you go. Watch your foot. >> Mhm. >> She's very drunk. Hector. >> Mhm. He was very drunk, too. So, they were very belligerent and um but I mean, whatever. They said they weren't driving and so ultimately they left the area with him. They walked down the street. We got called back there like 20 minutes later. >> Mhm. >> Um and somebody said that he had Hector had touched and battered um your sister. So, we were there trying to figure everything out. >> Mhm. >> And they were still in each other's faces. >> Okay. um your sister and Hector. >> Okay. >> And so um while we're trying to figure that out, we're trying to split them up to diffuse the situation. We put Hector in handcuffs just for the time being just to calm down. Your sister goes, "Um just one second, buddy." Okay. >> One second. All right. >> Um so you got And so she starts fighting us. >> And yeah, >> and she was in the vehicle with the keys when we arrived. So she's getting DIY, too. >> She's now looking at charges for DUI, resisting arrest, and trespassing, [music] which could land her anywhere from a few months to over a year in jail. Hector's facing trespassing charges, too. Not as serious, but enough for a fine or some jail time. When a mother's arms should protect, but instead push a child into danger.
