Please don't make me go to jail. Wait a minute. What's your name? I mean, grab it. We don't care about grab it. Grab it. I authorize you to grab my grab. >> Some people don't lose their freedom because they're broke. They lose it because they can't re in their greed. Godamn. Grab it. Just grab it. Grab it. Grab the wallet >> here. One woman loses her doctor job. Another loses her reputation. Another loses her freedom over a few little items. And you'll see this. The law doesn't have to shout. It just needs evidence and one bad choice. Today, we're going to dissect a theft that didn't start with hardship. It started with a carefully crafted moral mask. On December 13th, 2023, police were dispatched to Target in Albuquerque after reports that a woman had shoplifted and then came back to do it again. And this is what actually went down. >> Ma'am, let's go inside. We need to talk to you. You're detaining right now for jobing. Okay. Okay. >> Let's go inside. >> Okay. I'll take this. I'll take this. >> Keep your hands out of your pocket. >> Keep your hand out of your pocket. >> Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. >> Controller. >> Yep. Do you have any weapons on you, ma'am? >> No, I do not. >> Okay. >> Take a seat here. >> Yes. >> Do you have an ID on you? >> Um, I don't. >> Do you know why you're in this office right now? >> Yes. >> Okay. What's your social? >> Uh, >> okay. There's somebody expecting you at home right now. Kids, husband. >> I have I have an ex spouse. >> Okay. >> I'm going to tell you like I told you when we're coming in, you're detained right now for a job investigation. Okay. >> Okay. >> So, we're going to see what is the total and are going to be very transparent with you. They have more cases uh work against you. Okay. >> Oh, okay. >> I have seen that face. I if if I have a dollar for every time that I see that face, I I wouldn't be doing this. >> Yeah. >> So, they'll give me all the information. >> Okay. >> And I'll explain you everything what's going on. Okay. I just want to do a quick pan cuz I noticed that you were reaching your pockets. >> Uhhuh. >> Okay. Lean forward for me, please. >> Thank you. I'm going to remove this from you. You guys good? Yes, >> sir. You good? Just so nervous. >> Okay. Are you all right? Right from the jump, she didn't look like your typical suspect. She rolled out of Target, pushing a cart, looking like a well-off woman doing weekend shopping. But the moment she stopped, the nerves showed. She knew the exit was closed and her real identity was about to be exposed. How many kisses you have? Uh so we have one, two, three, four. >> Okay. >> And then yeah, she's freely there's targets. >> You want to be you want her to be criminal from this location too? >> Yes. Do you have a vehicle parked outside, ma'am? >> Yes, sir. >> Is it a Nissan Armada? >> Yes, it is. >> So, you probably know that we know what we're doing, right? And they've been looking at you for very long time. >> So, they not >> Okay. Well, I'm telling you now. They've been looking at you, right? and so and they know and they've been looking at you in the other Targets as well. >> Okay. >> So, >> he's going to give me a total for the whole merchandise and we're going I'm going to ask you more questions in a second. Okay. >> Do you use any type of narcotics, man? >> No, not at all. >> Okay. Do you have to take any medications? >> No. >> Okay. If you sit straight, you're probably going to be able to breathe better. >> I'm sorry. Why? If you sit straight, you're going to be able to breathe better. >> Sorry, say that again. >> If you sit straight, probably be able to like lean against the wall if you have to. >> Thank you. >> And the total, how much was that? The day, the total, and the number. Officers quickly confirmed the woman was Melissa Ivers, a medical director at UNM Medical Group with an income that could reach $250,000 a year. But behind that polished success story was a shocking pattern. Three thefts in under 30 days totaling roughly $900. An unbelievable slip. All these Miras change. >> Yeah, >> I have the new one. >> Okay, ma'am. At this point, you're going to be under arrest for shoplifting. Okay. Okay. with the within the last 90 days you've been catching camera choplifting around $940 which is a New Mexico is a felony. Okay. So um you also is going to be criminal trespass on the property. I give you a copy in a second. Okay. So do me a favor. Stand up for me please. Face away. Face away from me. Put your hands behind your back. >> Falling down. >> Yep. You can fix your pants. >> Okay. Put your hands behind your back and put it your hands together like you're praying. >> Put your hands together like you pray. There you go. >> I already asked you this. You said you don't have any weapons. We're going to ask you again. Do you have any weapons? >> No, I don't. >> Do you have any needles on you? >> No, I don't. >> What's going to happen? >> Well, you're going to jail right now. >> Oh god. >> Okay. You're going to jail. Um with uh shoplifting right now. Okay. >> Oh my god. >> We'll search you outside. Okay. Search. Okay. Thank you guys. >> I'll be on a second. It's hard to wrap your head around a high earner getting tied up in petty theft like this. Those earlier times she got away with it may have fed a dangerous mental loop where outsmarting security starts to feel like power. This didn't look like a need. It looked like entitlement. The quiet belief that she could take what she wanted and never pay the price. >> Okay. Okay. >> I'm going to tell you right off the bat, we cannot enter your vehicle. >> Okay. >> The most that we can do is secure your vehicle. So, whatever is inside the vehicle, we can take anything out of it. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, if your phone is in the car, you have to stay in the car. >> We can make sure the vehicle's locked and tell uh target >> you can't take the keys out of the car or you can >> we'll check. Where's the keys at? I think they're right on my uh uh like right in the center console. >> Okay. >> So, we'll ask Target >> if they're okay if you can leave your vehicle here cuz today is Wednesday. >> And I'm going to be honest, really honest with you, Melissa. Okay. I haven't run your information yet. Yes. >> Right. >> However, in my experience, for shoplifting, even if it's a felony, is not a violent crime. Okay. Okay. >> So, you might going to be out of jail tomorrow afternoon at the latest Friday. Tomorrow or Friday in the morning. >> So, it's not like you're going to stay in jail for >> Oh my god. >> You know what I mean? >> Okay. I I don't have any record of anything. >> Okay. Well, we'll double check that. Okay. Let's face here the vehicle, please. We need to take out everything out of your pockets cuz you're under arrest. Okay. >> You can take everything out of my pockets. Do you have any more merchandise in you that that you you didn't pay? >> No, thank you. >> So, okay, you you can you can stop moving, please. I'm sorry. Okay, >> could you help me checking the Yes, I checked the pockets. All the fidgeting and the non-stop requests to make phone calls weren't random. That was panic. Searching for an escape hatch, an exception, a one call lifeline. Anyone who could flip the script. Once the I didn't do anything wrong mask cracked, she shifted into excuses, grabbing for the last scraps of control. >> Scoot over a little to your right. I'm so sorry. Let me tell it. >> It happens, ma'am. Just >> No, it doesn't. It's just bad. It's so bad. >> Happens more often than you think. >> Yeah, but >> I'll be honest with you, Melissa. >> We're in 2023, Melissa. >> You know, we're the only place that they don't have cameras. >> I don't know. >> In the bathroom. >> The cameras all over. >> We have cameras. >> Yes. >> They have cameras all over the the store. The only reason why you haven't been the chain under arrest before is cuz when they have called us before, we've been busy. >> Yeah, >> but they've been looking for you. >> Oh, I did not know. >> But you have $940 already in merchandise, Melissa. >> You know what I mean? Like I I can't even afford that right now. There's a lot of money. >> Okay. So, I get it. You feel bad now, but there's a there's a little wakeup call for you to stop doing that. Okay. >> Yes, I agree. And I I won't get out tonight. No, >> no, there's no Well, I don't think so, Elisa. I'm being honest with you. >> Yep. You don't have any any record? >> So, that's the most that's the dumbest way to get a record in your um >> I know. I know. I know. I know. I know. >> Okay. I'm sorry. >> That's okay. I'm not I'm not keep >> I have no record. >> Yeah, you guys are very nice. I'm just so sorry that I have to be >> Okay, people make mistakes, Melissa. Like like my partner mentioned right now, we're here to correct those mistakes. Okay, >> I know. I'm so sorry. I just I wish I could I don't I know you can't, but I wish I could just have a a warning cuz I just I've never done this. I mean, I've never like done I've never gotten this trouble ever and I just >> Well, here's the thing. I'll be honest with you. >> Yes. >> You've never been caught before. >> Based on the total value around $900, the suspect was formally charged with a felony level theft. In many states, that dollar amount is the line where it goes from a misdemeanor to a serious charge, bringing the risk of jail time and a record that follows you for life. In reality, she was removed from her leadership role. A brutal price for a reckless choice. Reputation can collapse in a heartbeat, and big box stores have long memories for people who think they're smarter than the system. On November 20th, 2024, police were called to Walmart after loss prevention caught a woman switching price labels. She had slapped cheap barcodes onto expensive items to scam the selfch checkout. But it didn't stop there. >> Do this. >> They're starting early, huh? What she did is she pulled a lot of tags from the socks. She stuck them on the watches and stuff. And then now she's um she's peeling off stickers and putting them on adult clothing. That's what she's doing. >> She's been here since 6:00. >> Jeez. Maybe she thought if she got here early enough, y'all wouldn't be here. >> Maybe. I don't know. How you been? >> I'm good. all the work that we have to go do just to go separate or fish out what was stolen and what was not stolen. Goodness. >> So, do you want me to go ahead and grab her and >> No, that's it. I guess we'll wait till she goes to the I told them when she gets to the register, leave her alone. She might be getting ready. >> She has more than that. She just put a lot of stuff back. I think her budget is like halfway full. >> I say the altering tags is enough for us. >> See, they're on watches on different tag. See $1. $1 that she got late. >> That is 29. So maybe she didn't she didn't mean to go scan that $30. Call um let them know. Leave her alone. She took that $30 one. >> She can see boys t-shirt for $3.99. That's pants. >> Walmart. Don't play >> this one. She didn't get a chance to go and change the tag on this one. >> So, is that stuff that she's not going to ring up? >> Yeah, cuz she took some tags out of this clothing right here. She had more than that. She had more than that. Now, she want to pay cash. >> So, are y'all just going to count towards her theft? The things that she rung up and altered like the boys tea. Do y'all do like the difference or do y'all do the total? Well, what we do is we refund whatever she scanned and then I will charge her. >> The signs were clear. This wasn't a spur-of-the- moment mistake. It was planned. She targeted high value merchandise and decided for herself what she thought the right price should be. That belief came with a familiar illusion that she could outsmart a modern surveillance system and walk away clean. >> She left a dollar. She left a dollar. >> All right, let's go and nab her. Where she going? >> Where she going? Just wait till Yeah. You want to come with us? >> Why? Why? >> What did I do wrong? >> Go speak in the office. We can go speak in the office. >> Okay. >> I'll take this with us. >> All right. We'll just leave it here for now. >> Am I going to jail? >> We'll talk in the office over here. >> Talk around. Have a seat for me. Have a seat right here. Oh, okay. >> Do you have an ID card, too? No, ma'am. What did I do wrong? I didn't steal anything. >> You changed facts, didn't you? I did. Ma'am, please don't press charges. I will. I got the kids everything coming up. Please, ma'am. Don't >> you got your ID? >> I don't. >> Please don't make me go to jail. What's your name? Amanda Barber. >> Hold on. STOP. YOU'RE GOING TO GET TASED. YOU BETTER STOP. >> The moment she bolted said everything. When talking her way out stopped working, instinct took over. The calm vanished, replaced by resistance. Then came the mention of her children, not to protect them, but as leverage. A lastditch attempt to soften the consequences. >> I'm going definitely going to >> stop moving. >> Will I get a bond when I get there? >> You grab my body cam. >> Yeah. Please don't make me. >> You ran. >> I promise. Please. To the kids. The holidays coming up. >> That's on you. >> I'm going to jail later. >> Oh, yeah. >> Will I get a bond? >> Sure. >> Today. Will I get a bond? >> Hey, hold her real quick. >> Can I bond myself out? >> Stop asking questions right now. >> Would y'all release me even if I went and ran? Well, you lost the possibility of not. >> We don't know. That would have been on her if it was just some pants. Probably not. >> Can I call someone to come get? >> Nope. You can wait. >> Do y'all let people b ourselves out? I'm sorry I ran, y'all. She went home. >> You just want to put her in the back of my car. >> No, I sit with her. Can I get >> going? I'm sorry. >> I'm sorry. Have a seat. Can I buy myself out with that money? >> Look, this is going in your pocket. >> Yes, sir. >> And I'm giving him this. Okay. >> That's what you left in the machine. I I know Amanda Barber from >> years ago. She got caught chiffing years ago when >> it's not her. It's not Amanda. >> Oh, I don't know. I was asking. I might >> worked around 10 minutes old. >> But that's >> No, but we we caught her years ago when Mark was >> 1913. >> If that's a real nail man. >> As the encounter unfolded, the picture sharpened. Officers discovered she had prior theft convictions from years earlier, back when her kids were still young. That history stripped the hard times story of its credibility. Ironically, she still seemed to believe money could buy her a way out. >> Amanda Barber, 1913 central co-op, named >> Amanda Barber 86. 86 white female. >> I'm sorry. >> You don't have to apologize. Holidays are coming up. I should I got kids for the holidays? I shouldn't have. Why did I do that? >> Will I get a warrant when I or a bond when I get up here? >> Possibly, but you probably won't even get one till you go to the county. >> Can I b myself out? >> I'm sure you can. >> I'm sorry. >> Are y'all going to charge me a run? >> LJ is valid negative. She's showing 25 PS at Paul and a PTO that state she is banned from Walmart on Watson >> and trespassing custody. >> Is that another charge? >> Yeah. >> You're already banned. >> Walmart. >> You knew you were trespassed from Walmart's good. I'll leave this unlocked. Is that her? >> Yeah, she was trespassed already. So, we'll get her for the trespass. >> So, you got I I can't access her old file. >> I just have >> She was on our uh old apist case. >> I remember her years ago. >> Years ago. >> Service >> when her babies were little. She was >> stealing like makeup and stuff like that. We sent up to jail, too. Here's the >> Are they getting the amount? >> Yes. Yeah, they're doing the amount right now. >> It's too early for this. >> Too early. You're right. And I said, "Just such a dummy. Why would you go run?" So, why did she stop over here? I guess cuz she can't cross over there. >> Uh, >> I don't know. >> I told her she was going to get tased. >> Her decision to come back revealed a deep disregard for consequences and an addiction to the feeling of beating the system. This wasn't just about stolen goods. It was about eroding the social order. When the reality of possible jail time hit, that early confidence collapsed into a heavy telling silence. >> Thank you. >> Do you want me to do Oh, I still have to do her refund. Do you want me to take an account for all of the tags that she tore off or just the attempted >> um just the one that is that went through the register? And I I need those merchandise, too. The one that she >> that was in her pocket. >> Okay. So, 786. So, she's trespassed, too. >> Yep. >> Yeah. At least 10 years ago when they got her. So, she's been coming in here. She She looks different, though. >> Yeah. It look like she was banned from a lot of stores like Academy and I think Target. >> Yeah. So, you know, we we don't you don't have to go burn anything under this. We can you can you are file. >> Yeah, that sounds good. >> Cool. >> Thank you so much. >> Thank you. Appreciate you. on tonight. >> I don't know, ma'am. That That's something that the jail and the court steal. I'm I don't do that. You'll find out when you go to Perry. >> Take this off. >> We will when we get in there. >> In the end, the woman was arrested and charged with theft, criminal trespass, and obstructing an officer. Even though the value of the stolen items was under $500, she received a 10-year prison sentence because this was her fourth theft offense with three prior convictions from 2019 and 2021. She stands as proof that when deception becomes a lifestyle, a person slowly loses any real sense of consequence until the prison door finally closes behind them. Another woman who thought she was careful, but the camera had already locked her in the frame. On April 23rd, 2024, police responded to a theft call at Walmart. Loss Prevention reported that a woman had walked out with a vacuum cleaner and several other items without paying. What made it stand out? This was the third time in the same week with a TV taken earlier. >> Yeah, just for now. >> Okay. Can I talk to you for a second? >> Yeah. No, we're going to Trust me, we're going to figure it all out. You got your DL on you real quick? >> No, I don't. >> I had just bought this car. >> Okay. Just here. Sit down. Relax for a second. Okay. >> I have a flesheating bacteria, sir. Okay. >> Okay. >> Yep. I see it. >> And I had came here to get this stuff. >> Okay. >> I just bought this car. The dude that I bought it from went to jail. >> Okay. So, I'm having problems with you. >> Here, we'll go. Let's go in the AP office. >> Well, no, cuz I didn't do nothing. >> Well, you know, we're fine. >> Well, here's here's what we're doing. >> I don't want my car to stuff cuz I need my stuff. >> All right. All right. I'll try and help you as much as I can. >> I don't want to touch nobody to have a flesh. >> I got you. All right. >> That's why I don't want to do that. I love you. >> Well, >> well, you're going to have to wait here for somebody else get here and sit with you then. So, >> that's fine. That's fine. I ain't got no problem with that. Can I smoke my cigarette? >> Yeah. >> Hey, so what's your uh what's your first name? >> Maria. I have a warrant in Collinsville, but they told me all I had to do was come in, and that's what I planned on doing yet tomorrow. Maria, >> what's your mail? >> Before I went into the hospital. >> What's your mail initial? >> I don't have one. Sorry. >> What's your last name? I don't got no lighter. >> I got fine. This is >> Did she actually get the stuff or? >> Yeah, the girls. The girls metal. >> Okay. I just need some mail to get here. >> Yeah. >> So, what did she buy? >> She's looking for a lighter. >> Yeah, it looks like >> she got the TV. >> Yeah, it looks like she got the TV. She got a bunch of stuff. Other stuff like the vacuum and ties and stuff like that. >> What did she not pay for? >> That's what I believe she didn't pay for. The girls know. Uh >> we got to find out. But this is what she did pay for. >> Yeah. Okay. Correct. >> This is a This is a fun one. All right. Just kidding. What we got? >> So, she paid for this stuff. >> She come She all the time at this time. Thank you. >> She had way more stuff. >> This her third time this week >> that she stole? >> Yes. She only got caught today. >> Got four items on her. >> She pushed out a uh a TV where on Sunday? >> Well, the TV She's got a TV on there. >> Yeah. Yeah. No, no. She She bought a TV today. But I'm saying >> she pushed out Sunday a TV. >> Okay. >> So, >> you have video of all that everything? >> Yeah. >> Injury and hardship were played like an emotional card, strong enough to make people hesitate, but cameras don't hesitate. When the footage was reviewed, the tactic became obvious. She paid for small items as a smoke screen while higher value merchandise was buried out of sight. >> Look, that's her. >> Yeah. >> And that's all the stuff. >> That's a whole different TV, ain't it? >> Oh, wait. I don't know. Go back to this. >> Which car is hers? >> This one right here. >> Okay. >> So, this is like 12:30. >> 12:30. >> Yeah. >> She still a vacuum every time. So, I knew that vacuum was on there. She reselling the stuff on Facebook. >> She out here explaining to them. That's crazy. >> That's nothing to explain. They're stealing. >> Got more options out there. Yep. >> Are they making her come in? >> There she is. >> All right. Yep. All right. Let me see. >> Let me see these other We're going to make her watch, too. All right. So, I see. Oh, yeah. >> All right. So, that's at least closet. >> All right. Yeah. Just 126 135. >> Thought I was going to come in here during the day. >> All right. She ain't come in here. So, >> Okay. Let me stand back here. >> All right. So you can see right there, she's only paid for the TV, the Tide, the Hefty. Yeah, >> that vacuum is not paid for. >> Okay. So she's telling us she came in the store with the vacuum. >> She walked in at 13:22 with nothing. That's her. >> You see video of her entering the store empty-handed? >> Yeah. Well, fast forward that. This is her getting out of her car. So yeah, I want u >> we also we want we got another case on her for third Sunday, right? Sunday. She pushed out on Sunday. >> She did. >> How much? >> Probably around $300 $400. >> Okay. >> Have to get that together. >> I guess I can. >> I don't know. >> Well, what I would do is confirm a council's warrant. >> Yeah. >> Transport her. Meet a council officer at Hollywood Heights or something. Give them to her. Give her out of custody of this. >> She wanted anyway cuz she pushed that on in like $800. >> Oh,0000 for that. >> Go ahead and confirm what you want, please. >> In her mind, paying a little meant it all counted. She even claimed the vacuum had been brought in from outside, but the camera showed her walking in with empty hands. Once there was no room left to argue, her tone flipped from pleading to irritated and offended. All right, man. >> Some of those stuff y'all got is my stuff that I got from a different store a long time ago. >> Receipt. >> I can't get the receipt when I bought them weeks ago. Them vitamins are mine. And one of them are open. They came from Walmart in Grand City. I can I can show you one of them. The dude likes them. I do. >> If they wasn't on the receipt, they shouldn't be in that bucket. I'm just sit down. If we can find out your >> hand here, look. Set it down. >> Clean my own. Set that. But no thanks. >> Here. Look. Stand up. Stand up. Turn around. >> No. >> I'm putting you in handcuffs. >> Why? >> Because you are incumb. >> I'm good. Because y'all take it. So that's not mine. >> Okay. Well, we'll figure that out. But you're going You have to stand up. Put your hands on your back. >> Stand up. Are you >> Come on. >> Why y'all putting me in jail? >> I'm Well, I'm going to take you to the apartment and we're going to interview you. I'm going to book you there. And then >> What's going to happen to my car? >> I'm not going to tow the car. I move her somewhere else. We'll take that. >> You have something over here? >> No, I don't. >> I don't have anything. >> Do you have anybody holding over here? >> No. >> We need to we need to get with Madison County to find out what's going on. Would you like because a lot of times they they may not admit you. They may just give you a court date and say come back at a later date because they may not want that. >> You know what? I'm getting out of jail tomorrow. >> If they take that's Yeah. Because here's the thing is listen with these people with the jail um with the jail their their main their main goals is keeping that out of the population. Okay. >> But y'all still don't take me. >> Well, so no. So I'm taking you all. Okay. We're going to go to a Fallon and then I'm going to book you and we're going to interview you and then I'm going to release you. That's profound side of it. >> With the car. >> Well, we're going to we're going to let you park it here. >> We're not we're not going to tow it. Well, he's going to come back. He's got the >> I'm going to lose my core. I don't give a [ __ ] >> Sit down. >> When vulnerability stopped working, she switched to blame. The story was reframed, turning her from the offender into the victim of a so-called robbery by police. It's a classic psychological defense, dodging guilt by shifting responsibility onto someone else. >> So, it's going to be two things. Either I'm going to let you go and somebody's going to pick you up, bring you back to your car, or you're going to Yeah, I'm good. Or you're going to go be transported to Collinsville. I ain't going to get transferred. Collinsville already know about me. >> All right. So, if they don't, that's fine. But I got to take you back. All right. So, the more cooperative you are, I'm helping you out with the car. Okay. >> All right. I appreciate that. >> Okay. So, look, take us our top. So, go down there. We'll book you. Then we're going to do an interview for this and then now and I'll explain that process after. Okay. Hey, I'm paying for [ __ ] >> Is that all right? >> Oh, 135 mill custody. Hold on, ma'am. I got I got to check you real quick. All right. I just got to check. You don't have anything else on you, do you? >> Go on my I got a razor blade in there. >> Do you? >> Yeah. This right here. >> Which one? >> Right there. >> I keep it on me. >> Where? Right underneath this. >> Yep. It's white. >> It's a razor blade. >> Well, you can't grab it. It's inside. >> Yeah. This is a razor blade. This is a straight razor. >> Why do you have a straight razor? >> Because I'm black and I go through a lot of stuff. >> Heard that. Um, >> um, this is a straight razor. Is this right? It's right there. >> Just grab it. Just grab it, man. It's not that big of a goddamn deal. Just grab the thing. >> All right. >> Just grab it. Grab it. Grab the wallet. >> Grab the wallet. >> This? >> No. >> Grab it. Right. It's right there. It's right there. You feel it? >> You feel it? >> It's right there. >> She's saying it. Grab it. >> Just grab it. >> All right. >> You can grab it. We don't care, but grab it. Grab it. I authorize you to grab my gra. >> Just grab the goddamn thing. It's a >> All right. It ain't >> It's a razor. Don't care. It's right there. Grab it. >> Right here. >> It's right here, baby. It's right there. At this point, it wasn't about right or wrong anymore. It was about identity. Risky behavior was retold as survival. And even with everything laid bare, she held on to an odd confidence. The belief that if she told the story just right, the outcome could still change. >> This hurts. >> The station privacy. >> All right. My car is over here to the right. >> Yeah. Yeah. We're going to have a female officer leave us in the station in priv in room. No video. >> There's a goddamn titt. But we need to protect your privacy. >> My privacy. >> All right. Hang tight for that. I hold the cigarette. >> Well, you got to do that. Yeah, I'll tell you. >> I just want to smoke a square, man. I ain't trying to >> Where are your cigarettes anyway? Huh? Where are your cigarettes? >> They in my glove compartment right there as soon as you open them up. >> I'm not trying to run. I don't care about none of that [ __ ] >> All right, here. >> All right, just stand right here. You stand right by my car by the door and I got this. We're good on the girl. >> I think my lighter's right there. Where's your ladder at? >> So you So you you uncuffed her and she got it. Do you need Do you show me a female? >> No, I'm good. That's okay. Yeah, I just She's getting her cigarette, so she just It's all right. >> You can dis she wasn't going to be able to do this. Uh I don't know. This was a good idea. Tell her she could do this though. Where's your ladder at? >> It's right there. >> There's some in the station. >> It's right there. Where at? >> It's right there. >> In the end, the woman was arrested and taken to jail on retail theft charges. If convicted, she faces fines ranging from $3,000 to $5,000, along with the real possibility of jail time and serious financial penalties. When the camera turns denial into something almost embarrassing, we move on to another case where an arrogant manager swallows tens of thousands of dollars whole. On August 16th, 2023 in Florida, police were called to Dollar General after the store reported nearly $14,000 missing. An internal review pointed to someone no one expected, the assistant manager responsible for handling deposits. And this is what actually happened. to get very clear because because I'm not going to trample over her civil rights because somebody else did. >> It was it was all just to pay my mom my brother's funeral. He just died. >> I understand. >> He just told me that if I were I wouldn't go to jail. >> Understand that regardless of what statements are made, right? That is for you to dispute with a lawyer. As far as we are concerned, you have now committed the act of grand theft. That is a felony. We have no choice. We must make an arrest and we must take you in. They are the entity representing the business and they are requesting that we take law enforcement action against you. That is our position on it. Okay? Regardless of whether we think that their investigation went right or wrong as far as we are concerned, we are going to conduct our investigation in the proper order. >> We're not going to take that or use it. >> I know. I know. So that's I mean that's just going to be something that >> that's for my >> that will be for their >> records and for us >> as far as we are concerned we will give you the opportunity if you would like to to make a statement and we will document it properly. Okay. >> Um just a moment here please take back door or something. >> I'm sorry. Can you take me out the back door if you don't put me in handcuffs, please? >> Um, take a while. I don't care. >> Like maybe two years, please. I don't know. >> Yeah, just relax for a second. I'm not quite there yet. >> And are you her supervisor normally? Okay. So, she's made the statement to us that she was um told that if she provided a a statement um that she would that you guys would not pursue prosecution. >> We did make that statement to her. >> Okay. Okay. I just need to clarify. >> I'm here with us. >> Despite the loss running into the thousands, the suspect believed she deserved different treatment because she had worked there 2 to 3 years. She cited funeral expenses for a family member as a way to soften what she'd done. As arrest became unavoidable, her tone shifted from pleading to denial to blaming everything but herself. >> Yeah. So, she's going to do her thing. >> I was trying to at least if she was willing to cooperate. >> Yes. >> I was assuming that love prevention was going to take take that into consideration and accept, >> you know, like a deal, you know. >> But it looked like she >> Yeah. Unfortunately. Okay. Those those kind of do. So, because of that, um, do you have ID? so we can just document that we spoke with you and that that statement she's she's alleging that that statement was made and um so as far as we are concerned um we can't accept any of this because it was all done under duress and all and under a false pretense. she was coerced essentially. You you've made false uh pretenses that she wouldn't go to jail and we have nothing to do with that. Yeah. But as far as we just need to document that this is the allegation that she's making and that we properly read her Miranda and we let her know that anything that she states to us at after this point, you know, can and will be used against her. I just need your ID and that was awful. >> No, I'm not going to provide my ID. I haven't committed any crime. You're part of the investigation as the authorized representative and as her supervisor who brought her in here. You are now part of the investigation. >> You're going to raise your tone. >> I'm not raising my tone at all, sir. I've only spoken to afraid, but I'm not going to provide my ID because I haven't the law. >> I'm I'm happy that this is happening because I didn't want that to happen. >> Her refusal to provide identification was a red flag. In situations like this, avoidance usually signals awareness that something is very wrong and that the truth isn't going to help. >> Voice on the camera. >> No, >> it was all him when he said to me right under the camera right here. >> I'm trying to tell them the truth. >> So, like this officer said, regardless of what took place, the crime >> took place. So, we can't get around that. >> I know. So, and a lot of times, you know, people can choose not to prosecute at first and then change their mind. >> Can you tell me if I >> you know what I mean? >> Let's see. >> My glasses are not I can detail the deposit amount that she admitted to one by one. >> Yeah. If you can do that and just like the time frame you said April, May. >> Yeah. April. Oh. And your brother was um >> in March, right? >> Yeah. My mom Yeah. My mom died. >> It was only the 15, the 2010, the 22. >> As of this morning, the 2600 is still not in the bank. >> And that was from >> Yeah, that that one. Yeah, that one was the yellow stuff should be with the ones that were here yesterday. He's only the last the 15, the 22, and the 22 is the one that I unpacked. >> No, didn't just email me the whole spreadsheet. I'll just >> Yeah, >> you just put on email. I'll put my email address. Once we get you searched, I can allow you to. >> Yes, you can come down. >> Yeah. Get the So, um, Miss Hie. >> Yes. um need you a couple of need you to uh initial the statement here and then on this line you're going to print your name because you want to prosecute on behalf of the business and then sign. Okay. >> Okay. And this statement basically says that you swear and affirm that your statement is true and correct to the best of your knowledge. >> This is the illusion of honesty. By admitting just enough, she hoped to keep control over what stayed hidden. When a story is told through emotion, the numbers fade into the background and the real scale of the theft becomes something she isn't ready to face. >> Okay. And um yeah, it's best for her to get to my daughter. >> Okay. >> Cuz it's Jen out there. >> Give it to her. >> Yeah, if you can call in here. I just want to um I want to give him to my daughter in case my daughter has to get money. Yeah, we can give it to her. It's >> for Jan and not Carla. >> Jan. >> Yeah. >> Thank you. >> I only acknowledge the 1500 and near the 22 and 22. That's it. It's not It's not this other one. Is this the last one? The two and the two22s. >> So yeah, the the Well, like this one and the two22s. Yeah, the 22 and 22. >> One, two, three. >> Yeah. The other ones are No, I dropped them off there. >> Okay. Well, >> the the amounts that the charges go is anything over 5,000, between 5 and 20,000. >> So whether it's >> 6,000 or 10,000, it'll be like the same bond. Right. Can I call my dog? Please help. Cuz nobody knows anything. She's going to be the one that has to get me out. >> She called a relative hoping for sympathy. But the moment the nephew appeared on screen, the room shifted. There was nowhere left to hide. That's the hardest moment. Looking at the people you love and knowing the truth can't be talked away anymore. >> Hello. >> Hey, Toy. Can you hear me? >> Are you okay? >> No. Um, what else? >> What's wrong? >> Don't worry and don't tell nobody. But I gave Jen my debit card at work so you can show me. Call me on Facebook. >> What? >> They're taking me to jail. So if you could bail me out. >> Why are they taking you to jail? >> Cuz of deposits. But I mean, I didn't go yet, so I don't know how long it's going to be. But >> what does she have to do? Hey Kyrie, what are you talking about? >> At work. I'll tell you later. But what does she have to do? The police officer is right here. You're in speaker phone. >> Hey Kyrie, when they're ready to Sorry, my grandson. >> When they're ready to >> All right, puppy. Hold on. >> Hey Kyrie, >> bond you out. They will allow you to make a phone call. >> Yeah, they're okay. They said when they're when you come bomb me out later on tonight. I don't know how it's going to be. I guess you said to look online. Are you stealing money, bro? >> 141. >> I know. >> All right. I have to go places right here. >> Hello. >> I know. All right. I'll call you. Um, what you think? A couple hours. >> Uh, could be slightly more than that. >> More than that? >> That's up to I don't know what their process is. >> They have you in front of the store. Like they they won't put you in the office or anything. >> They're waiting for they to come. I asked him to take me out the slide door, but I don't know. He said he's not going to put me in handcuffs. But Jenna work to You're friends with Jen on Facebook, right? So you can call her. Jen, >> she How long is she going to be there for? >> She works till 2:30. >> Please don't tell Alan or nobody else yet. >> Well, myself. >> Jesus. If you needed help with something, you shouldn't have told me. I would have helped you. >> You could have came and lived with me. I already told you that stuff. >> I know. >> Hey, it's Highland. They have somebody coming. >> If you do, just send her to the office. We'll do the search here and then >> Yeah. >> All right. Thanks. >> Yeah. We'll just wait for it to get here. walk out. Go you there real quick and >> car is right out here, but I'm parked like facing that way. So, I'll be >> facing away from the school. >> Please open. >> No. >> Okay. Put your stand up face and one clothing. >> This is a um a thing of my >> backpack. >> In the end, the woman was arrested and taken to jail on grand theft charges. Despite attempts to frame herself as desperate and betrayed by the system, she received 5 years of probation. The sentence may sound light on paper, but the real punishment was the collapse of trust inside her own family and the public humiliation that finally stripped away her carefully built moral mask. From the manager's office to the cash register, the pattern repeats, stealing from the very place that signs your paycheck. On January 3rd, 2024, police were called to Burlington Coat Factory after discovering that a female cashier had been stealing during her own shifts. Over the course of four consecutive shifts, the losses climbed into the thousands of dollars. And this is what really happened. >> Take the truck stop. >> I'm Julian. Hi. >> Hi Julian. I'm officer Gaz. >> Nice to meet you. Thanks for >> So what's going on? >> Yeah. So we have an employee. Okay. >> Um she was a cashier. So over four shifts >> starting um on the 23rd of December. The last one was on the first. >> Okay. >> She was a cashier. Uh ring up ring up customers. Customers would hand her the cash. She take the cash, put it on the side of the register, finish a transaction, she takes the cash. Yeah. Yep. I'm shocked that she's still here. >> Um and um I've got video clips. Okay. >> Now, I don't I don't remember. Do you guys have the ability to send the link through Axon? >> Uh no, we don't use Axon. >> Yeah, that would be the sheriff's office, but yeah, we don't we don't use Axon. >> Okay. Yes. And I would have to get you >> Yeah. So, our systems like we're we're getting away from um like discs and stuff like that. So, >> the sheriff's office has or not the sheriff's office, the detective, >> right? So, it's already after five, so we're not going to be able to get them. So, you could always download it to a flash drive if that's possible and then we could do it that way. >> Yeah. Yeah. That Yeah. I mean, I have an ancient computer at home. I'm not local. I'm down in central Florida. Yeah. I kept it because you know everything else you know >> well and even if it came to the point where if you can download it and email it I can do that as well and I can always upload it later. That's not that big available. >> Okay. >> Yeah, I can I can show you some clips just just so you can see the ammo and everything. >> She didn't stop after a single incident. Even after being warned that the cash drawer was coming up short, she kept going. That points to a belief that she was clever enough to manage the system. Instead of running, she stayed, trusting that familiar compliance and cooperation would keep her safe. >> If you guys want to have a seat, you can. Yeah, please. >> Lady first. >> Yeah, go ahead. Put me back. >> All right. Hi, ma'am. I'm officer Coyos. Do you have your ID or driver's license with you today? >> If I may. >> So, what do you do for Burlington? >> Gotcha. Currently, we're being detained for an investigation. So, before I can ask you questions relating to that, I do have to read your Miranda rights. This is my caveat, and I say this to everybody. Me reading your Miranda rights does not mean that you're currently under arrest at this time. Just >> because you're not free to leave, I have to read you this. Okay, go ahead. >> 7429 class E that cars 2024 and 1043 from the call. >> 104. Thank you. All right. If there's any part of it you don't understand, let me know, okay? Cuz this isn't something that people have done very often, if at all. Okay? You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. By assigning her actions a good cause, she tried to shift the story from theft to sacrifice. Guiding the officer's emotional response, the seasoned officer acknowledged her personal pain, but refused to let sympathy bend the line of justice. >> Is that you have taken some money while you're working as a cashier at the front? Can you tell me about that? Like what's what's the purpose behind all this? >> I needed the money. >> Okay. Short on bills or >> my mom. your mom. >> She's sick. >> Think she's got like cancer? Like really badly sick kind of stuff. >> How long has she been sick? >> For a while. >> She needs she has surgery and medications, >> right? Does she not have insurance or anything? >> No. So before we go into the other stuff, there are programs out there to help. Okay. A lot of your hospitals and medical facilities are going to have case workers that can potentially point you in the right direction for programs or even alternatives to insurance, right? Um, a lot of pharmaceutical companies, if you fall short on something, some of them are very well known to assist with payment plans or even potentially doing things for free. Okay. The biggest thing for you and mom is you have to ask the right questions. Okay. with what you've got going on, I I shouldn't be here having this conversation with you. I think we can all empathize with you. That that's that's a very serious thing to have to go through on your own. Okay. But there's help out there. You just have to ask for it. Okay. How many times did this happen? >> Um >> how you proceeded with this? Like what was like how did this happen? Like how did you obtain this money? >> Oh, um transaction. I don't put it in the numbers, but I wouldn't put the money in. >> Okay. Were you still given like the customers or change and whatnot, but you just put the money to the side and kept this for yourself? >> And this happened approximately four times >> on the same day or different days? >> Different days. Okay. Were any of those like more than one on one day or just all spread across four different shifts? >> Okay, I got you. and I caused a loss of cash from the register within the last week. I need the money from my mom. She's very sick and needs surgery and medications. I know it was wrong because stealing isn't right, but I was in a desperate position. It's not like me to do so. Customer would pay and I would not put in register. I would put in aside and then continue transactions totaling $1,985. How much is mom's medical expenses? >> It's a lot. the surgery alone. >> I got you. >> Thousands of dollars, >> right? Does anybody else live at home with mom or is it just you and mom? >> It's just her. >> Okay. So, it would be very disheartening and ill- advised for me just to not show some sense of sympathy. Okay. Depending on what Burley Ting decides to do at this point in time, is there anybody that wouldn't you would need to contact so mom has someone to help her out? friend, a family member. Okay, >> it's just me. >> Okay. Do you think mom would be okay for a day by herself if that were to be the case? >> Cuz obviously we don't want to leave mom by herself if she's so badly ill. >> She has to take medication. She can barely walk. >> Is she bedridden? >> Basically, >> she admitted to what had already been uncovered while keeping the rest in the shadows. The wrongdoing was confessed, wrapped in a noble backstory meant to protect her self-image. That held until the moment denial became impossible when the full scope of the fraud had to come into the light. >> Oh, my fat behind in this chair. >> Yeah. So, here's an instance. >> Has she seen this? >> Uh, no. We haven't shown it to her. >> Okay. Is it against y'all's policy for her to see it? >> Um, no. She can. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Yeah. If you want her to Yeah, that's okay. This This is you in the black sweater with your hair up. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Can I rewind this at all or? >> Um Yeah. Yeah, >> I got it. >> Okay. >> Yeah. And then the clips are all They're >> right. >> Same, you know. Same as that, just different. >> Gotcha. Okay. I don't want to mess up your computer. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. No, you're good. Yeah. And then I mean the clips are all >> Sorry. >> Oh, no, you're good. >> Yeah, they're all similar, you know, same >> Mhm. >> same type of process. The catch will go on the side here and go in the pocket. >> Okay. Another one at 8:49. Now, how were you folks able to determine the total >> um based on so um watching um the cash be handed and then um the amount that was typed in >> so yeah comparison to the tickets comparison. Yep. Yeah. So if it was like you know 120 cash all no cash went in all went to the side. Okay. >> Um and then based on to I could show you um like our reporting what that looks like in terms of the shortages. And if it's possible to get a copy of that, that would be great as well. >> Yeah. Yeah, I can show that one after this video. >> And either way, if you want to if you want to email it to me, that works, too. >> Okay. >> It looks like you had did this twice on the 23rd and then this day on the 30th is pretty much the same thing. You put the money next to the register and then you pocket it. >> And I appreciate your cander, Mrs. Con. I really do. >> Yeah, she was. Yeah. Okay. Really open. >> What's this here? is at one point you covered up some of the funds with this. Was that like a roll of paper towels or trash bag roll or something? >> I'll bring it back so you can see it. >> So based off of the facts and circumstances, Burlington does want to pursue with criminal investigation. Okay. So because of the amount and the pattern of the activity, the way that you conducted yourself, it is a felony. So, yes, you're going to be placed under arrest at this time. If you need to call mom, text her, whatever the case is, like I said, to show you some form of compassion, go ahead and call her, make a text message, whatever you need to. All right? But at the end of the day, I want to make sure mom's okay as well. So, >> this officer showed a rare kind of kindness. He treated her with respect, listened carefully to her circumstances, and stayed calm throughout. But that compassion didn't tip the scales. The law still had to be enforced no matter how complicated the emotions became. to the incident. So, we're just a little concerned for mom and someone can just go in and do a well-being check on her, make sure that she's okay, and offer her some services if she needs it. >> So, essentially what it this is is there's a bond schedule that we have to look at. All right. What the bond schedule is is you pay a certain amount of money to a bondsman, some form of collateral, and you can get out within a few hours. If you're unable to bond yourself out of jail or have someone bond you out, you would have to go to first appearance in the morning. Okay? And then the judge will look over all the paperwork, everything that me and you have talked about that I'm going to put in that paperwork and they'll make a determination from there. You know, especially if you don't have any other previous criminal history or anything like that, if they'll let you go. Okay. >> Do you have any other questions for me that I may have not answered as of yet? Sorry. >> Sincerely, I wish I'll follow up with you if I don't get them tonight. I'll I'll call you tomorrow. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Sorry. >> 5657. Would it be an issue for her husband to come back later and grab her belongings? Anything that's left here? >> Oh, yeah. No. Yeah, we can do that. If you want to take I mean, we can grab the >> The only issue is if it's perishable stuff, it goes to the jail. They're just going to throw it in the trash. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. It's just containers on that. You can actually photo it. >> Okay. Go to the right. I'm just going to go here to the right. >> Yes, ma'am. >> In the end, the woman was arrested and charged with theft. After court, she received 9 months of probation and was ordered to pay back the stolen money. What do you think about the officer's approach? Was he too soft? Or was this the kind of humanity law enforcement needs? One thief works in silence. Another collapses in handcuffs at Gucci. Forced to face the consequences head on. On May 17th in New Jersey, police moved in on a woman after security cameras caught her stealing thousands of dollars worth of designer handbags from Gucci. But what happened next pushed this case far beyond a routine arrest. >> Stop. >> Why would you want? What are they trying to do? >> All right, ma'am. You're under arrest. All right. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in the court of law, you have the right to attorney. If you can't afford one more be provided for you. You understand? >> Ma'am. >> Mr. You okay? Hey, do you need an ambulance or anything? Hello, >> Missy. You need to see an ambulance or anything? Find out what they want to do. What kind of bags she took? >> Gucci. >> Gucci. >> Yep. I must have knocked it off the channel. You want to sit up? >> What's your first name, ma'am? Sit up and stay here. Don't move. >> Everybody sit down. >> All right. Stay like that. >> Sitting down. >> Yes, I'm sitting down. >> Yes, you're sitting down. >> Man, stay like that. >> Why you running? I'm not running. >> You rant. What are you talking about? Are you ranting? >> Tell you something. >> I need to tell you you're being recorded. So, what do you need to tell me? What do you need to tell me now? >> Wait, wait. Just sitting. >> I'm I'm talking to him right here. What's up? >> What's up? >> You're listening. >> I want to have the bus. >> We're not worried about the bus. You're no longer getting on the bus. >> Yeah. You're not getting on the bus. >> I'm not going to get on the bus. >> You're coming with us to to Milurn Police Headquarters. >> Even after leaving the scene in clear chaos, she calmly denied running and insisted on her innocence. At the same time, the word respect was introduced as a new boundary used to limit cooperation with police just as the objective evidence was closing in. >> Why you hunting me, >> man? Because you're not listening. >> Okay. Okay. Okay. But why you hunting me? >> Okay, but you got >> Excuse me, guys. Why did I help you? >> I'm trying to talk to you. >> Yeah, but yeah, I could talk to you. >> Were you in Gucci before? >> Why you? >> Because you're not listening. Hey, get out. >> I I was trying to tell you not to open it. >> Stop. >> Stop. >> I know. >> Ma'am. >> This is their foot. Yeah. Once the items were laid out, the truth was unmistakable. This wasn't a single oops moment. There were Gucci bags, plus merchandise from Nordstrom and Victoria's Secret. Even a dress taken straight off a mannequin at Express was part of the hall. >> Secret. >> This is Nordstrom. This is Victoria's Secret. >> Take all the profit. >> That's not the dress. >> It's a white dress. Her camo pants are right there that she was wearing. She took them off. >> 100%. 100%. This is stolen from somewhere. >> She bag style and co. That's the brother. >> He's going to go back in the back. Where's the change? Where did she change? >> This has got to be better. It's all [ __ ] >> You got the Gucci bag. >> All right. I don't see a bag. She got up pretty quick though. I don't know if anything else fell and Moss put her down. It's in Should be in the cat. I gave it to Dispatch. >> Yeah. >> That's Sorry. You can put that in the bag. >> About to put it in now. I >> I tried to put more stuff in there, but my glove broke. All right. What's coming down? I'm going to I'll start populating. I'll meet you down there. >> I I'll go to express. >> In the end, the woman was taken to jail and charged with shoplifting and resisting arrest. What do you think would be an appropriate punishment in a case like this? Drop your thoughts in the comments below. One case ends in force. Another begins with a pair of Nike shoes hurled in panic at a luxury SUV. On May 27th, 2023 in Florida, police quietly staged outside a shopping center. Mall security had reported a group repeatedly concealing merchandise, walking it out to a car, then coming back for more. Once the perimeter was set, all eyes turned to the moment they returned to the parking lot. 10 >> 12. Come on. Go over there. You go over there. >> You're being accused of stealing. >> Back down. Just hold that. Hands behind your back. >> Hey, get him. Get him. >> Hey, behind your back. >> I don't know. >> Okay. Take a seat. >> Do I have to? >> Yes. >> He has nothing to do with this, right? No. 54 on him. Let him go. >> So, we're still missing one. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> 54. We're just 1012 with the two females. We're looking for the male portion of that. >> We do that's a vehicle >> for the mail. >> Okay. >> We just need stage to where no one gets in that car. >> Where's the discussion? >> The tattoo on the arm guy. >> Okay. >> Hey ladies, what you doing? >> I'm getting hammered right now. You >> got an ID on you? >> No. >> No. >> Line too. What do I Yeah. >> What's your first name? Wait, where's their ID? >> ID. >> They don't have No, they're lined. >> Oh, lined. Aligned. I thought you said they they were lying. I'm like, wait, what? >> Yeah, they're lined. >> Pay attention to the bag folding behavior. This isn't an impulsive slip. It's deliberate. Reusing shopping bags is a psychological tactic meant to preserve the image of an ordinary customer. When behavior looks calm enough, they believe the law won't notice. Hold on. Mike Husky looking. >> Want me to tag the other one? >> Um, it looks like two pairs of shoes each. >> Okay. >> Do you have an ID? >> No. >> No. >> You don't have an ID? A floor ID? Any kind of ID? >> An ID from anywhere? You want me to reset up over there for that? >> Yeah, we still just I rather have someone to push just in case. Did we take the piranha out? >> Yes. >> I just don't know if we have the chargers on him to do it. >> Okay. What's your birthday? >> December. >> He just saw this guy come out to the car with the full bags, dump the stuff, fold the shopping bags, and go back in. I don't know. That sounds like a a good amount. >> And it's a good amount he has in there. >> You don't got nothing with your information on it? >> No. >> Echo 84 back. Copy 1029P. My name and date of birth. I'm too stop. It look like he's about to start sprinting. >> Well, yeah. And then I asked Trevor. Trevor's like Trevor calls me. He's like, "Oh, no. His car is parked right next to there as his wife was walking up. >> Said no record found by ID or deal >> for both of them. >> I'm trying to help you. Believe it or not, >> you don't need my You got my all my >> Okay. Okay, that's fine. >> If I can't find you on here and you refuse to give me your name, you're going to go and do my name. You got my name. >> Well, I'm trying to find it. If it doesn't come up and I can't verify your identity, like I can't verify your identity. >> You ready? And they said that we don't have no record. >> No, that means you you don't have a driver's license. >> In an instant, the polite shopper facade collapses. What replaces it is the confusion of people realizing the plan has been exposed. Not carrying ID isn't accidental. It's a defensive move designed to delay identification and avoid the heavier consequences that follow. >> Identify. >> If I don't positively identify you, right? >> Okay. Just >> that means that I'm going to put you under John Doe. And that's going to make it a lot >> or Janeo. >> And then it's going to make it really hard for you to get out of there. >> We were talking. >> Yeah, that's fine. >> With a white shirt and gray hat walking the car, right? >> Can you stand there? >> Yeah, I can fly. >> Yeah, a few people walked in the car. We got one driver side and one side trying to get away here. >> I got these tools here. He just locked the door. He just tried to lock the doors to the car, too. >> Adidas. >> Where do you want to see it? Right here, >> Dennis. Where's your car at? >> My car is all the way by Old Navy. >> Bring mine over. Well, I wanted to free you up. >> We're literally right. >> We don't have enough people. We only have four people. So, I'll bring my car over. >> Erica, can you put those two females in your car? That way, we can try to pick up echo. >> Stand up. >> And we're going to be 1012 with all parties. >> 104. So you see the way there's nothing inside the car. The same way you go in here is the same way we expect when you come in. >> Um >> he dropped like the passenger dropped it. >> Yeah, cuz he saw he driver getting approached and then he tried to like >> Yeah. >> Thank you. Uh, well, I'm going to leave my camera now. >> Notably, officers skipped an initial search before placing a suspect in the patrol car. That procedural lapse created a brief gap, one that gave the suspect extra time and opportunity to contact the outside world before being fully secured. >> Make this a little bit easier on you. I'm down. >> He's got his ID. Um, >> what is what does it mean when you guys say booster breeds? >> Uh, organized and then I usually have the bags lined when they go. >> They usually mean the car pulls steps. Oh, >> they just go back and like back and forth. Don't for me. >> Inside the cruiser, the young woman can be seen texting with ease despite being handcuffed. The reaction signals familiarity. Detention feels like a temporary inconvenience, not a turning point serious enough to change behavior. You don't have a social, right? Do you have a social? No. No. Okay. >> Security >> shoes. >> All Nike or >> Yep. The looks of it. Oh lordy. In the end, four suspects were arrested and booked on two felony grand theft charges with dozens of pairs of shoes recovered, totaling over $10,000 in merchandise. What do you think about this dump and return strategy? Did their initial calm make you angry? Drop your thoughts in the comments. The Nike case unraveled too easily. The next one, police catch him red-handed, but he's not ready for what comes next. On September 17th, 2023, while an officer was already handling an unrelated call at Walgreens, store employees reported a woman acting suspiciously. Her handbag kept getting noticeably bulkier. Police stepped in, and this is what really unfolded. Where are you going? Stop. You're under arrest. >> Walgreens. Please now go under. Please let me go. Under my stop. You are underrest. Stop right now. I'm not letting >> Please let go. Please don't >> you grab me. >> Please let go of me. >> I'm going to jail. >> Please. >> You got nowhere to go back here. If I let go, I'm going to get on the other side. >> Let go of me. >> Please don't. Please. >> My back is coming and you're going to get tased. >> PLEASE DON'T >> STOP RIGHT NOW. >> PLEASE. OKAY. All right. >> STOP. >> OKAY. >> HANDS UP NOW. HANDS UP. YOU'RE UNDER ARREST. YOU UNDERSTAND ME? >> CAN'T PUT MY OTHER HAND UP. >> NOPE. Put your hand up it. Oh, 20 Walgreens and Lin female bit me uh three line here. We got units around >> 22 black and l. Hold on. I'm almost there. >> You're going to get tased AS SOON AS YOU GET OUT OF HERE. >> Give me a unit. >> Yeah, she's in there somewhere. >> Her decision to bolt over a fence shows she believed police would give up once they lost sight of her. Dumping the handbag reinforced that mindset. Lighter body, better chance to escape. It's panic logic. When reality closes in, even your own identity starts to feel like dead weight. >> Ma'am, you are surrounded. You are under arrest. Come out WITH YOUR HANDS UP. >> THE K9 IS COMING. YOU'RE GOING TO GET BIT. YOU BETTER SOUND OFF RIGHT NOW. GET YOUR HANDS UP. >> Come on out. I hear you. Hands up. You lost. You just made matters worse for yourself. Come on out. >> She's definitely in it. She didn't jump out. She wouldn't be able to jump out that fast. >> That's where she jumped over right there to your left and she dunked down over here. Can we get a unit to the north side of the building? She dropped her wall her purse. Probably has her merchandise in it. Maybe an ID. >> You are under arrest. Come out your hands up before 93 Samantha. >> Hey Samantha, she should be 99. >> She didn't break really skin at all. Right here. >> Okay. At the two marks. 99. >> Yeah. She didn't even really break skin. Serge said she's a >> That's what he said. >> So, the big thing is just make sure >> she didn't break the skin. Little little bit of blood, but >> I would say, >> yeah, cuz that's disinfectant. So, that would be your best shot right now just to keep it clean. Try and kill it. And then, yeah, the big thing is just Yeah. Wash them, man. >> They thought you was stealing. I was talking to them inside about some other case and uh she just slide out starts running like well that's good enough for me >> chased her jump over there so she's hiding out there somewhere. >> Once the belief that she was being treated unfairly took over moral boundaries collapsed she responded with violence reframing it as self-defense. That reaction didn't just cause injuries. It introduced a quieter danger. The kind officers can't always see coming. >> MAKE YOURSELF KNOWN RIGHT NOW. I'M GOING FOR YOU TO SEARCH. HE WILL FIND YOU AND HE WILL FIGHT YOU. COME HERE. >> In there. Get your hands up. >> All right. >> First before I go. I know. I know you're trying to go to the hospital. >> Get on your toes. Get on your feet. >> Is she already crying for an ambulance? >> Stand up. special stuff in your bag. >> Well, they're going to be good here. I'm going to >> Yeah, I'll get the bag stuff. >> Thanks. >> Bit me. >> Yeah. Yeah. They want in the high crime areas enough to >> Yeah. >> to go after. >> So, can you just see what is yours? >> I'll get a property theft log. Did you come to the rear of Walgreens? to at least handle the retail theft portion. You just handle the like >> No, it'll be all together. So, >> you Okay. >> Yeah. Can you grab me a uh retail theft? >> We're headed over there now. >> What's up, Hannah? You good? >> Yeah. Go ahead. >> Yeah. >> I want see >> barely. broke up the scan. >> Yeah, you probably got still got looked at dirty. >> They uh they looked at it and said just clean it up and that's all I need. Okay. >> And then they documented for whatever on a report just >> All right. As long as you're good with that, then we can get you some swing up there. Okay. >> Enter Sean out for you. >> Yeah. Put some uh antibacterial stuff. Yeah. >> What uh was she stealing? Was that the problem? >> Yeah. So, I came in here to talk about a different case. What began as a small thing spiraled because it wasn't stopped in time. Each wrong reaction stacked consequences higher. In the end, she faced charges far more serious than anything a simple shoplifting case should ever lead to. >> And the last time I arrested her, she literally gave me a fake like she gave me a fake name. But like when I walked up to what's going on, that's not my name. I'm like, "Oh, I'm so sorry. genuinely felt bad cuz I thought I called her wrong. And then later on I'm like, "You asshole." Like had me really thinking that I called you out your name. She's like, "I know more." Like that was so stupid. Like >> lie to him. He's never met you. >> Big giant giant giant rocks or something like crazy. >> Crack. I don't think that's anything like crazy. Massive rock. a massive crack addict. Can I test it? >> No. Scratchy. I got two lips. >> So, this is all we're looking at pretty much. Is this yours or is this? >> Uh, no. No, that that's hers. >> And then Yeah, she actually bought the >> Did she buy it? She was in the process. >> Yeah, she bought uh that at the pharmacy. Yeah. And then she was see she was walking around with that bag and that's what she >> Yeah, those two. Yeah, she bought >> Is this yours, too? No. >> Yeah, that's ours. Yeah, she bought the telephone and the syringes. >> This yours? >> Uh-huh. That's hers. >> On the surface, everything looked normal. She paid for a few items, receipts in hand. That was the point. To slow people down. Once a legitimate transaction is seen, suspicion drops. And that's when unpaid merchandise disappears deeper into the bag. >> Yeah, she she definitely bailed on. We found some stuff over that she didn't really. >> So she must have saw him and just immediately was like put some of this stuff back. Then she bought like a few items at the register like we were >> you all right? >> She did a little bit but they >> I would go get that. >> You know what I mean? Uh they were saying it wasn't >> your hand, not them. >> You know, she's a well-known prostitute. >> How well known? >> Uh she's advertises. >> Oh, I was just I was just asking how >> is that right there? >> That's broken skin. >> Cool. >> 17. There's another way. >> You got everything to lose and nothing to gain. So, might as well go. That is broken skin. >> Yeah. I'm sure I can I can handle the retail death force right here. Do a follow, >> dude. Why don't you do that and go straight to the hospital? Get get that moving. >> I got a quick follow up. >> Do you have a body cam or is that an extra holder? >> That's an extra holder. >> Okay. I got an extra body camera at the station >> cuz I probably drive to the >> Yeah, you should probably do that. >> All right, I got time. >> It's for the best, man. I I mean >> get a tetan shot, you know, at the very least. Get a shot. >> You allow. All right. >> Uh I do want to go with the PCS, too. >> The woman ultimately faced charges of petty theft, violent resistance to an officer, and battery on a law enforcement officer. If convicted, the maximum penalty for battery alone can reach up to 30 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Violent resistance carries up to 5 years, while the shoplifting charge brings up to 60 days in jail. On February 29th, 2024, cops got a call from Walmart about a shoplifter in the act. When officers arrived, they found the suspect trying to sneak out the back door with baby clothes and hygiene products stuffed in her bag. From there, things got heated fast. Arrest, ma'am. >> Yeah. Yeah, you are. Behind your back. Stop >> what? No. >> This is shopl looking. It's not that serious. Stop. >> Okay. Well, stop. >> Are you with her? Are you okay? >> No. This is There we go. >> We're not trying to hurt you, but you're resisting. No, we're not. >> That's precisely what you're doing. >> No, you just stole things and you don't want to cooperate. Okay. >> Sorry. >> WHY ARE YOU BENDING MY ARM? >> I'M NOT TRYING TO RELAX, MA'AM. >> WHY ARE YOU BENDING IT? >> OKAY, YOU CAN CALM down now. >> We're good. >> Did you get Thanks, man. >> Okay. I'm going to go. >> Is this yours or is this yours? >> It's mine. Okay. >> I have nowhere to run. Y'all want to fight me so bad? >> Yes. Yes. >> BREAK IT. BREAK IT. >> I CANNOT WALK THROUGH MY ARMS LIKE THAT. AND I WON'T. SO JUST BREAK IT. MY CAR'S ALL THE way around. >> My car's on the side. I don't know. >> Walk me correctly or I'm not going. >> Not your choice. >> WHY ARE YOU BENDING ME LIKE THAT? THAT'S NOT NECESSARY. >> Does this look like a to you? >> First, she tried the slip out the back trick, but got caught red-handed. Instantly, she flipped the script. I'm pregnant. My arm hurts. Hoping the cops would cut her some slack. When that fell flat, she switched again from helpless victim to combative aggressor. >> Let me go. Let's go to the car. She's way too car. I don't know why we're watching. >> You're causing me physical pain. No, I'm not. Calming down. >> I did. >> I'm pretty sure I told you to. >> I have a baby to go home to. >> Well, not tonight. >> Does uh do you have evidence bags in the back? >> I What a real piece of [ __ ] >> Stealing cleaning supplies and baby clothes. What a [ __ ] criminal. You watch more. >> Okay. >> Last I checked, y'all weren't allowed to do that if you're a male. >> Wait, where did you check that? >> Can she search me? Cuz I don't want you touching me. I'm abused. Please stop touching me. >> Everything's on the same. >> That sounds fine to me. >> All right. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can will be used against you in a court of law. You have right to have an attorney or talk to one at this time or have him or her present with you while you're being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire an attorney, one will be appointed to you if you wish. You can decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer any of my questions or make any statements. Do you understand each of these rights as I have explained to you? Yes or no? You got to unzip this. Okay. Her anger boiled over once she realized she couldn't get away. She started yelling excuses, hinting that the theft was for her baby at home. It wasn't a confession, but it was her way of justifying what she'd done. Can you put my vape in with my belongings, please? That is mine. I paid for it. I want it back when all this is said and done. Thank you. >> I'll take her. I'll call for you. >> Yeah, if you want to call, I'll take it and I'll work on a trespass. And then um I already got the photo and stuff with just they I just need to get his statement. >> Say I'll get his statement site. Send it to school and I'll follow. >> Stop. >> I'm not going to leave my again. I thought hobbles >> or leg restraints >> leg restraint leg restraint be kicking like that I would otherwise it's going to be right HERE all three though right >> so that's why I say leg mine >> are right here on this side in my Okay. OKAY. >> Where's your house at? >> I'm going to tell you. >> Okay. Well, I need to know for the citation. >> I'm homeless. >> Okay. >> So, how are you going home to a baby if you're homeless? >> She's with her father. >> Okay, then she's she's somewhere safe. >> No, actually, she's not. >> Okay. He's a biological. >> One minute she claimed she had a baby waiting for her at home. The next minute, she swore she was homeless. Her story tripped over itself so badly the cops didn't even need to press hard. It fell apart on its own. And when she ran out of personal excuses, she went full tilt. It's all society's fault. >> Otherwise, just relax and we'll go up to jail and it'll be really quick and easy. >> Oh, yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I'm never going to see my again. What are you talking about? >> It's a basic shoplift. If you would have complied with us from the very beginning, I'd have probably issued that [ __ ] works for black people when we get put in handcuffs. Okay. >> Are you going to be are you going to continue to kick my my >> I want to go home and see my month old. >> Okay. Well, that's not an option right now. Okay. All right. So, I'm going to ask that you relax and don't kick my seat cuz if you do, I'm going to have be forced to place you under leg restraints to prevent you from possibly injuring yourself >> before. That does not bother me. >> Okay. I'm just letting you know. been in neck restraints. >> Okay, I'm not I'm just trying to deescalate the situation the best I can. Okay, >> go stop. Go stop someone who's really bad and evil. I'm getting things for my >> is still a crime. All right, it's not a victimous crime. >> Some stolen started. >> So, are we going to continue to kick my chair? >> No. >> Okay. I appreciate that. >> Is it John? >> No, it wasn't John this time. It was the other >> the guy like, "Who are you?" That guy. >> Yeah. >> John. >> Oh, that guy. >> We came out with her and he said something like, "Thank you." He said, "Thank you." >> Said something weird to us and I was like, "Wait, are you there?" Yeah, >> who's the one that ran out? >> The endless excuses were nothing but a desperate attempt to dodge reality. But the officers stayed cool, kept order, and pulled the whole mess back under the rule of law. Once she realized there was no talking her way out, she finally gave in. >> So, what happened? >> So, from here, I will be booking you into jail where you'll be able to see a judge uh tomorrow and you'll have a bail amount to get out of get out of jail. >> Well, I don't have bail. I don't have money. I can't even call my baby dad. I'm going to chew through my Idol. I am not a mentally stable person. You don't even know who you have in the back of your car right now. And I'm also on methadone. So, I will sit here and withdraw as >> they have that available at the jail. >> Do a day in for that. I have a >> like me to make that phone call for you. Okay. Give me one second and I will, you know, I'll get to you just one second. Okay. >> Babe, >> I'm in the back of a cop car and I'm going to jail cuz I'm at Walmart and I got caught stealing. >> Where? Which ones? >> It doesn't matter. The Walmart. >> No. was >> I don't know. >> Should be going to score, sir. >> Up in De Mo. >> Thank you. Um All right. Um All right. Thank you. >> All right. [ __ ] All right. Okay. Um Yeah. Um Okay. Well, I mean, >> he said I have to stay tonight and I have to talk to a judge tomorrow and if I don't get bail, I'm >> How much do you know? How much you >> I don't know. >> It's going to be $2,000 >> or or borrow >> or bondsman. Yeah. >> Uh thank you. Um >> step around this way. Just track. This is a trust test notice. You're not you're not allowed to go back into that Walmart for the next 3 years. Okay. >> In the end, she was arrested and hit with thirdderee theft and resisting arrest. She was hauled off to jail and will now have to face a judge. If convicted, she's looking at up to 364 days behind bars and or a fine up to $5,000. On top of that, she's permanently banned from the store. June 18th, 2025, cops got a frantic call from Tiffany. She swore her $5,000 French bulldog, Dior, had been swiped by her dog sitter, Kira. What looked like a messy civil squable turned into a highstakes showdown the moment officers showed up. >> M stand out. >> Okay. >> Myself and cover 16. >> How you doing? >> I'm good. >> What's going on? >> So, this is an ongoing situation right now. Um, so I had paid her to watch the doll for me. This is her sister. They they're my kids side of the family. So, she came to my house and she did my kids hair. Like, she retwisted their hair and then I paid her to basically watch my dog for me for a couple days while I went out of town for a family emergency for Orlando. When I came back, she already knew I was coming to pick the dog up. So, when I told her, "Hey, you home. I'm coming to get the dog." She was like, "Oh, you're not getting your dog back." Like, the dog's gone. Like, >> she sold the dog. >> She was like, "I'm keeping the dog." >> So, now she's just giving me all this runaround. Like so basically she like sold my dog in the eye. >> Is she here? >> I don't know. >> Yeah, she in there. >> Not trying to answer. >> In there and she paperwork on my dog. >> I spent like a lot of money on my stuff. >> What apartment is it? >> Upstairs. >> What's police? >> I can hear you in there. West Palm Beach, please. >> How do you go about getting the search warrant to go in there? >> You're not getting a search warrant for a dog, man. >> A dog is like a child, though. >> I'm sorry. >> A dog is like a child. >> A dog is not a child. A dog is an animal. >> A family member. >> All right. >> So, tell me why. >> Okay. So, she came over to do my son's hair. I asked her, "Can she do their hair?" Cuz she retwists. That's like her little side gig. Okay. >> She came over. I told her that I had a family emergency going on in Orlando. >> And I was kind of making a joke about it cuz the dog was at my house barking. So, I was like, "Kira, you want to watch a dog for me for a couple days?" >> And she was like, "Yeah, who you talking about? Dior or Christian?" I said, "Dior?" >> And she was like, "Yeah, [ __ ] I need I live by myself. I need somebody to keep me company." So, I was like, "For real? Are you serious? Cuz I'll give you some money." gave her. >> The silence, the stonewalling, the flatout refusal to talk. Kira's behavior made it crystal clear this wasn't some mixup. Instead of explaining herself, she dodged and deflected, hinting that she'd already set her sights on keeping that dog. It smelled less like confusion and more like a plan. >> So, I bought the the biggest bag of dog food. I bought waters of uh bottles of water cuz I told her I was like, "I give my dog like the good [ __ ] I don't just give them tap water and stuff like that." So, we went to Publix, got all that stuff, and I told her, I said, "Listen, I'm going to be gone for 7 days, though. Is that okay? Like, let me know if she's too much. I'll have my dad come pick her up." Cuz my dad already has the the boy dog. >> Mhm. >> So, she was like, "No, sis. You good? Like, don't worry about it." So, every day I was writing her, asking her, "Is she okay? Do they need anything?" She asked me for $20 for whatever she I don't know what she needed it for. I sent her the $20 cuz I was like, you know, you doing me a favor? >> Like, >> of course, I'll send you whatever you need. And you have documentation that you sent her the $20. >> How did you send it? >> I sent it on Cash App. I sent I have the text messages and everything. And she was like, "Um, yeah, she she needed she needed water." Cuz I was like, "How you guys doing? You guys all right?" And she was like, "Yeah, we good." But the dog needed some water. So when I get a ride, I'm going give her some water cuz I try to give her the tap water. She's been throwing up. But she Yeah, she good. I was like, "Oh yeah." I was like, "She could drink tap water. She ain't never throwing up from tap water, but you could give her tap water, but I'm coming to get her anyways, so don't worry about it. You home?" Mh. >> And she was like, she wrote me back literally and was like, "Oh, you're not getting your dog back." >> So, >> you just do text me? >> Yes. >> And you still have those text messages? >> Yes. And I sent it to you. >> And she was like, "Oh, you're not getting your dog back." And you So, no need to get her her shots. >> Okay. >> So, I'm driving on 95 coming from Bokeh from my job. And I'm like, >> Mhm. >> like my heart dropped. No, this was on on Friday. >> On Friday. >> So, my heart dropped cuz I'm like, I know she maybe she ain't mean to write it that way. Yeah. >> So, I'm calling her, she's not answering her phone. Now she's sending me the voicemail. So I text her I say Kira with a question mark question mark. You're telling me you're not giving me my dog back. And she writes me back and she's like yeah that's what I'm telling you. You gave me the dog. >> Now she's trying to say that so that it's cuz she's not dumb. Obviously she wants to have it documented saying that she's saying that I gave her the dog. >> I never gave her the dog. I would never give her my dog. This is a dog that I've had for four years going on 5 years. >> You have the papers with the dog right there? >> Yes. And I have I I can get the other papers where like I've taken the dog to the vet. I can show what what I paid for the dog, all of that. Like, I bought the dog $5,000. I have the receipt. >> The dogsitting agreement and Tiffany's proof of ownership sealed the deal. Kira's actions showed she wasn't just careless. She twisted trust into an opportunity to cash in. That's the classic mindset of someone who puts greed above decency. >> You want to answer the phone yesterday? >> You called me yesterday. >> Hm. >> You called me yesterday. >> Called you yesterday. Was at your door yesterday. I wasn't here yesterday. >> You wasn't here yesterday? >> Okay. All right. You mind talking to me real quick? >> Yes. >> All right. >> Well, I'm just I mean I mind talking to you. I'm not going to run nothing. >> No, I'm saying that's what I'm saying. Do you mind? >> I just I'm just letting you know that I'm um ordered the Uber thing. >> Order what Uber thing? >> The little um circuit car thing. So, I don't know when I'm going to pull up. >> All right. So, Miss Green, do you know why I'm here? Um for the dog. >> Okay. What dog? Um >> Tiffany dog. >> Tiffany dog. What? What what's going on with Tiffany's dog? >> She gave me a dog last month. >> Okay. >> She gave me um a Frenchie dog last month. >> Okay. >> She literally gave it to me. She picked me up. This is my brother's baby mama. >> Okay. >> Um she picked me up to do his >> I'm getting scared. >> Okay, you're fine. This is we This is This is routine. All right. >> How you doing? >> This is Officer Ramirez. He He comes He helps me out. He He hear me going out with somebody. He gonna come over here regardless. >> I'm doing my nephew's hair. She had the two dogs in there or whatever. The dog was barking really bad, which that's not the problem of this cancer or whatever. But the dog was barking really bad. So when she came back home, she was like, "Kira, do you want a dog?" And I was like, "Yeah, I want a dog." But you know, I can't have a dog because I'm literally on housing for real. I'm I'm on housing. I've been here for four year. I've been here for 4 years. >> Um when she she gave me the dog and the whole the whole ride here from Lashahiashi to back here, she was like, "Um, yeah, girl. I'm getting tired of this MFN doll. I don't want this beat. She was calling a dog a beat. I don't want this beat. That's all she do is bark and s up my house like poop around her house. >> So I was just like, um, okay, cool. Cuz my landlord son live right next I promise to God I told her this. Um, officer I don't know your name. >> Officer Bell. >> Officer Bell. I'm on housing. My landlord son live right next door to me. I don't have a dog. The dog was already barking crazy. You feel me? And and my water was >> Kira tried to spin it claiming Tiffany had given her the dog. But come on, who says they can't take care of a pet yet still keeps it as a gift? That excuse was sloppy, desperate, and screamed self-denial. >> I got her to know that the dog ran away. I don't know what's going on. She think I sold a dog and everything, but I got friends that's helped me with everything. I don't have If y'all want to take a walk, a look at my house. My house don't smell like no dog. It's nothing to do with no dog. It's nothing in my house about no dog. I don't know. I have a fake necklace on my neck. I don't know what's wrong with her. like they on drugs and they keep bothering me. I'm in this church, sir. >> Literally, I go to church every Sunday on my way to church right now. If if I'm able to go to the church because I help them with the um with the pantry every Thursday. I'm the secretary of the Sunday school. I'm literally with I'm literally with Christ, sir. Like in real life, I'm with the Christ. And they trying to they messing with my mental. >> Like I'm not calling these lady. I'm not I can't get nobody to have a car. >> Like I'm not messing with these girls or nothing. And the the other one is my blood ass sister. Excuse my language. >> Tequita is my sister. >> That's your sister. >> My blood sister. >> Mhm. >> She is the one that started all this because there she's on drugs. >> And she's been like this and with me all my life like all our life. I'm going to be 37 next Saturday. >> Mhm. >> Everything that she know that's good that's going on with me. She starts stuff with me all the time. And that's the honest to God truth. I'm going to be something that my sister is telling her, sir. That's the God honest truth. My sister is the root of all of this. So what? Um, so you said she did give you the dog cuz she was tired of it. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. What color was the dog? >> Um, it was gray. I think it was like Yeah, gray. >> It was gray. >> It was Was it in the other color? You said it was a French. >> Mhm. It was just gray. I don't know if it was had a color underneath or what? Cuz I never like turned it over. So I don't know if it was like a different color, but I know it was gray. >> Okay. Um, and you said she called you. >> Did she ever ask for the dog back or >> No, she came Okay. I'm so sorry cuz I'm trying to talk fast because my thing about to pull up and Okay, >> I'm already hypertension. So if you think I'm just jittery, I'm hypertention. You >> good with me? I'm fine. >> I got high blood pressure and everything. So >> I'm fine. >> When she started deleting texts and fumbling through her story, the cracks got bigger. That's the thing about cover-ups. Every lie drags another one behind it until the whole story collapses. >> She never she mentioned a dog. She just said she had to give him shot, give her shots or something, but she never even tried to come upstairs and look for the dog or nothing cuz the dog was upstairs at the time. But the dog just ran away and I told Tiffany that I don't know why they starting this big old commotion. I don't have any money, but the money that's in my wallet and this like $11. I don't know what's going I got no bank account or nothing. It's nothing in my house brand new. But the AC and the um the landlord just gave me the AC because my AC went out. So, did you ever text her and tell her um that you wanted to keep the dog? >> She already already gave it to me. >> It was a lot of text messages. It was a lot of text messages, but after she started threatening me after they started being with the crazy stuff, I delete that stuff out my phone cuz I'm in the church. I cannot be doing all that, sir. >> They they want to bring this stuff to my church on Sunday and everything. Like, I cannot be doing all that. >> Like, I'm literally in the church. I just got saved and it's just like since I got saved it, they just been effing with me the whole time. I'm getting agitated and I'm sorry for like if I have attitude but >> I don't know what's all of this is about. >> I have all of my neighbor these people see me every day. They don't hear no dog. They don't see no dog. >> Everybody around here these ladies that have been to my boyfriend's job is honest to God. >> Mhm. >> I don't know what they told you or y'all. I don't know. But yesterday they went on to my boyfriend job. He don't have nothing to do with this. Mhm. >> He don't even know them. >> Who is your boyfriend? >> His name is Emanuel. But they went to I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. >> You got any other weapons on you? >> Oh, no. This this just my two minutes. Put your hand out. >> You can leave, sir. Can I Can I please just have somebody come get my keys for my house? >> No. I'll go with you. That's the best place. Best place for him. I'm going put you in two cups. All right. So, it's easier for you. >> In the end, the cuffs came out. Kira was booked for grand theft, a felony, for snatching that $5,000 French bulldog. If convicted, she's staring down fines, restitution, and possibly prison time. The final call rests with the court. On April 6th, 2022, police were called about a theft at Lowe's. The suspect, Jennifer, was tracked all the way back to her home after swiping a load of plants. When officers showed up to make the arrest and recover the stolen goods, the situation escalated in a heartbeat. >> Hands up. Shut the car off. Shut the car off here. Step out. Step out. Over here. Over here. Over here. Put the cigarette out. >> No, I'm not. >> Put the cigarette out. Put the Put your hand behind your back. I'm smoking. Put your hands behind your back. >> I'm smoking a cigarette. You guys, >> put your hands behind your back. May I please put your hands behind your back? I want to smoke. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> I want >> Put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your back. Give me your other hand. That's all you need to do. >> What's going on? >> Yeah. I'm just trying to here. >> What's going on? >> They're following me. [ __ ] harassing me. >> What is going on, >> Mom? I'M BEING TARGETED AND SURVEILED BY a community. >> Here. Roll on your knees. Roll on your knees. Roll on your knees. Roll your knees. Set up. Set up. Set up. We'll talk to her in a minute. We're going to wait for her to get back to the house. >> Listen, you need to calm down. >> Calm down. >> I'm going to prison. >> You need to tell the truth. I've been telling you, Mom. I've been telling you. >> Jennifer, please calm down. >> We'll be right back. >> Okay. Good job. >> Listen, we'll be back in just a second. Just give us a second. She going to have in her car so she can calm down. >> So, what is that I'm hearing? I have a trailer full of plants. >> I see right there. All the way in. All the way in, please. >> All right. What are you What are you saying? You're being surveiled. What was that about? I'm just curious. Is that >> So, for the longest I've been calling and saying how I'm being stopped. >> Oh, calling us. Okay. I thought you meant right now. So, I was just making sure it's not >> No, I am. No, I am. Okay. I I feel like I'm a part of some freaking uh Listen, it's organized crime. I am a targeted individual and I've been telling you guys that for a long time. >> Her first move, deny everything and spin a wild conspiracy tale. Claiming she'd been targeted, she painted herself as the victim of some outside force pulling the strings. It was classic self-d delusion, a mental trick to dodge guilt and separate herself from the cold, hard truth. This is believed to be all stolen. >> So, we're just investigating theft of stuff from Lowe's. >> So, we're under the impression this might be >> mine. All right. >> We're under here about the plants. The plants might be stolen. >> Can you stop and be for real? You guys know what the is going on. >> Cut it out. >> Why do you were not there? >> Take me. Mom, what is going on? >> Said turn around. >> You did this to me. You did this to me. Relax. >> You did this to me. >> Relax. >> You guys are actually going to [ __ ] take those plants. They can't pay me what I already have purchased for what they've done and what they did right as I'm [ __ ] THEY'RE DUMB. OH, HEY, count them up. I bought them. I bought them. Yeah, I got twoing receipts. Paperwork locked up. I'm going to need it for this one. Stupiding plants for the environment. and I get ridiculed, persecuted, raped, thrown out on the streets, and thrown on my face. >> All right. You have the right to remain silent. Anthony, do you understand each of these rights I have explained to you? >> Yes. >> Having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to us now? >> Yes, it is. >> Okay. What happened today? >> I went to go and pick up some plants that I paid for. >> Okay. >> And it's just for two days now. I I initially dealt with Lowe's, went and bought a set of I don't understand why they're even taking them. >> Yeah. When did you pay for them specific ones? When did you pay for them? Today when? >> Yeah. Today. Right when I got right before I went and got the trailer. >> Okay. >> Listen, these people are whacked. >> Okay. Um, do you have proof that you paid for him? >> Yeah, I certainly do. >> Where is it? I said, "Uh, well, my mom's credit card statement." >> Where's mom? >> In the house. >> Which credit card did you use? >> Lowe's. >> Lowe's. She has a Lowe's credit card. >> Uh-huh. >> Even when cops flat out told her they'd seen the video, she doubled down, swearing she was innocent and had proof. The catch, that so-called proof was the very footage of her swapping plants for gift cards, then heading right back to grab more. Her denial sounded more like a backhanded confession. Hi. Are you dad? >> Are you dad? >> I said I can't understand my granddaughter doing them and I had a card and everything to pay for. I give her >> She's rolling. >> I give her my Home Depot card. I give her my uh Lowe's card to go pick up some shrubs. >> Do you have your Lowe's card? >> No, she doesn't. And I asked the police. I got I can't >> She didn't pay for it. >> Oh my god. What in the What's wrong with these kids today? >> I don't know. She take the plants. Huh? >> Why would she take these plants? Was she sent to get them? >> Hell no. I got the money. >> Okay. Was she sent to get the plants? >> She didn't have to take them damn. >> Is your wife here? >> No, my wife passed. >> Oh, who's here? >> My daughter. >> Can I talk to her? >> I'm not sure you can. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Hi. How are you? >> Good. >> Are you your mom? >> Yes, unfortunate. >> Okay. >> What's going on? >> I I'm not real sure. nothing. >> What? >> I'm serious. Did she? >> Wait a minute. >> She didn't pay for a damn thing. >> Oh, that on the trailer. She didn't pay for it. How it was explained was >> we're landscaping here because this is a rental property. >> Okay. >> Um >> she we spent $300 something dollars. >> I don't know how much it was, but she went and she purchased >> um whatever hibiscus and stuff like that. >> When was that? Uh, what day was that? >> I don't know. She had >> yesterday or the day I I >> She had She had no business doing it. >> You gave her a credit card for Lois today? >> I did. I did. >> Where's that card? >> They've got it. >> I told you. I told him. >> Credit card or a gift card? >> Yeah. >> Credit card. >> Credit card. >> Your name is on it? Yes, sir. >> It's a credit card. >> She didn't pay for anything with a credit card. >> Oh my god. >> Nothing at all. >> No. on video. She's on here pulling up and loading all these plants. >> Okay, you're okay. No, >> for this what happened today? >> Yes, I Yes, I understand. >> I don't know. We don't know fully. She's been doing other stuff all weekend. She's She's yell at staff. She's called staff the nword. >> My my daughter >> does she have a drug problem? >> She has got >> She got No, not >> she No, she hears voices. >> Testimony from her mother and grandfather shed light on the bigger picture. The family admitted they had the money to buy plants, but it didn't stop her behavior. The real problem wasn't needed. It was her mental state. Jennifer admitted to hearing voices, and her actions grew more erratic by the day. >> Were worth it. Y'all's jobs are gone cuz you GOING TO REVIEW THE VIDEO where you'reing with me. >> Oh, but I bet you erased that [ __ ] right? >> I didn't pay for aing THING. I GOT IN EXCHANGE. THESE [ __ ] TOO. >> That is it. I paid for them. I paid for them. I [ __ ] paid for them. You guys are going to hell. You guys are going to hell. I'm going to pray soing hard in jail. Mom, I'm [ __ ] innocent and all and everything. This was a setup and they're flipping the [ __ ] script. Remember that. THERE'S MONEY ON THE TABLE. YOU GUYS ARE [ __ ] cuz I got y'all's police reports too from when I called you for discrimination talking about I'm schizoping frenic. You bettering let me go. And as a gift Lowe's, >> we're going to put you in my cruiser. It's going to be grand theft cuz it's over $1,000. >> Why are you guys doing this? I told you. I told you. >> Told me what? Why are you guys wanting me to go to jail? I didn't Iing complied with everything. I'm sorry. >> Hold on. You didn't comply with anything. The problem is >> Listen, I've been being stalked >> by who? >> By the government. >> Okay. All righty. >> Grandpa, listen. I'm out of b. >> It's going to be violated. >> Please. >> Okay. We're going to step into my cruiser, please. All right. >> Can you please not take >> We have to. What the? I'M GOING TO PRISON. GOD DAMN. THEY BEEN STALKING ME. >> MOM, call this channel 8. >> Okay, she can call him all day long. >> Why are you, you know, I'm ready to hurt you, mother? >> You what? >> I'M READY TO GO TOING PRISON. >> OKAY, >> that's what you guys want. >> No, I just don't want you to steal. That's all. >> I'm being told to do it. >> By who? >> The words for organized CRIME. EVEN IF I DON'T EVEN COMPLY, I get threatened. >> Okay, wipe off your tear. Sick seat. Please take a seat. Please, >> just take a seat. I'm going to put a seat belt on you. All right, turn around. Face the other way. >> Her scattered, paranoid statements after the arrest revealed just how far gone she was. With her mom tied up in credit card drama and her grandfather forced to witness this breakdown, the theft wasn't just a crime. It was a heartbreaking glimpse into untreated mental illness. >> Mom, don't let him in my car, you [ __ ] [ __ ] MOM, GET HIM OUT OF MYING TRUCK. GET HIM OUT OF MY TRUCK. THESE [ __ ] ARE AFTER ME. GET THE OUT OF MY TRUCK. YOU HAVE NOING RIGHT. What's going on? >> I wouldn't go back to Lowe's again. Number one. >> Okay, I plan on it. Okay. >> Nothing. I don't care. But I'm being released tonight and like nothing ever happened because I paid and I'm going to prove it to you. >> Stop talking for a second while I call a sergeant for you. >> I am setting up an investigation. This is [ __ ] This is This is crazy. Yeah. No more tears for me because now I'm going to start speaking and now I'm talking. I want all my police reports written up too and brought with that with that sergeant because there's a big problem here. You guys [ __ ] AGREE YOU GUYS ALLOWED in our community. >> I have no IDEA WHAT >> YEAH, WHATEVER. YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. >> What am I talking about? >> Can you explain it to me? >> Yeah. Organized crime. You guys, THIS IS WHAT MAKES the money FOR YOU GUYS. >> WHAT? >> YEAH. YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN THROWING ME IN JAIL since 2000. God dang 14. >> So whose problem is that? >> I'm Oh my god. I'm telling you, you guys threw me in prison and made me serve 100% of this time that I've already served. And once that happened, you guys knew and it was county that THAT WAS A BIG PROBLEM. Oh my god. Oh my god. >> You might be seeing THINGS THAT AREN'T HAPPENING. >> NO. OKAY, I'M JUST TELLING YOU WHAT YOU >> REVIEW the cameras from when I was there the night before OR THE DAY BEFORE. I was being discriminated against. >> No, you called people the nword who are employed. >> No, I didn't. >> Okay. >> Oh my god. Oh my. >> In the end, Jennifer was hauled off to jail and charged with grand theft since the stolen goods topped $1,000. If convicted, she faces prison, probation, restitution, and possibly even extra charges for resisting. But the bigger question lingers, where's the line between crime and mental illness? And how should the justice system deal with someone caught in that gray zone? These cases prove theft isn't about need. It's about choice, entitlement, and consequence.
