No. What the [ __ ] Don't you want to see my ID? You don't even know who I am, sir. >> Somehow, this Karen's dad had no idea his own daughter was the one who stole his car. >> It was already bad enough. My baby going to DCFS and I'm >> This young parent couple learned their lesson the hard way after getting caught. >> Get off. >> And then there's the shoplifting couple. I'm not. >> Okay, I'm not >> completely wasted and out of control. The most notorious woman in town gives the cops a hard time. [Music] June 12th, 2024 in North Pine Avenue and Northwest 20th Street, Okala, Florida. Cops got the call about a crash at a busy intersection. And when they arrived, they found a serious wreck. The driver responsible, Tiara Kirkland, who made a reckless left turn straight into oncoming traffic. A driver heading north on North Pine Avenue swerve to avoid the collision, but the impact was unavoidable. Their Toyota flipped multiple times, slamming into parked cars. A passenger was ejected from the vehicle and died on the spot, while the driver suffered critical injuries and had to be rushed to the hospital. This is what happened when the police showed up. We do have a rollover. It's going to be on the northeast corner of the intersection. I'm going to need a unit down at Jacksonville Road and get every I'm sorry, Magnolia. Go every get everybody going north. >> Sweetie, >> can you hear me? >> Where you hurting? >> I'm burning. >> You're burning? Okay. It's probably from the airbag. Okay. Is there anybody else in your vehicle? Just you. Is anything specifically hurt? >> Just that. >> Just that stuff. Okay. Hang out here. Okay. >> I need GHI. >> All right. I'm going to get this airbag cut out of here. Okay. >> So, be careful. There's oil on the ground. >> God, that burns. >> Okay, you want to just go ahead and have a seat right on the curb over here. Okay. >> Just right over here on the curb. >> And you got your ID for me? >> Holy cow. Were you you were wearing your seat belt? >> Yep. >> Okay. >> Like I said, I was turning here. Yeah. >> And there it was clear. >> Uhhuh. >> So I just turned and all of a sudden, bam. >> And next thing I know, I'm flipped around. >> Okay. >> All right. Okay. So, I see you got some scratches on you. >> I'm burning. Yeah. >> Oh my god. if you want to come out over here. So, we're out at the roadway and that way once they um get done checking getting him out of the >> over there. >> I have no idea, ma'am. >> That car didn't just flip. It tumbled hard. That kind of force only happens when at least one of the vehicles is flying down the road. But here's where things get interesting. Kirkland's story doesn't quite add up. If the Toyota came out of nowhere, that could mean one of two things. Either she didn't check her surroundings before turning or she was too impaired to process what was happening. >> Was he going straight this way or he was coming this way? >> My way was gone. >> Okay. >> But I had almost passed the light and it was green on my side. So I just kept going. >> Okay. >> And then all of a sudden he just came out of nowhere. I don't know what I was past this. So he had been one straighter turning. >> Okay. and he got me cuz I had green. But I do have a correction to make. I was in the turn lane. >> You are right. >> Okay. >> But it was flashing yellow. >> Okay. >> And there was nobody coming my way. >> Okay. >> So I went ahead and made it >> right. >> And he came out of nowhere from this side. >> Okay. >> So I'm assuming if I have a yellow light, he does not have a yellow light. If it's blinking yellow like like what it is right now. >> But if he's coming from this side, what does he have? >> From which way? >> This way. >> This way. Making a right right here. Or going this way. >> I guess we should try to go that way. >> If he's going that way and you've got the yellow light, it should have been red, but we'll have to the person who's actually >> was in this turn. >> Okay. >> That's where I messed up because I I knew I had to turn before the bridge. Okay. >> So, I got into >> um Hey, was this the driver that you had at Raymond Torres? >> Green vehicle right there. >> He's a witness. >> No, he said he got >> Okay. Did you add in the other bins that of the vehicles he hit in that parking lot? >> Okay. Under pressure, Kirkland starts shifting her story. First, she says she turned on a green light. Then, she backtracks, claiming it was actually a flashing yellow. The problem, she can't keep her details straight, which suggests she's filling in the blanks with whatever sounds right in the moment. I can't see it. [Music] This is going to be a problem. We put some absorbent down. Well, you want us to leave it alone for now. >> You're Mr. Raymond, correct? You were in the green car. Okay. And you did get sideswiped. >> I I would say that I threw myself so I might have hit the curb more than anything, >> but he was his car was straight. >> Okay. So, I was probably >> after the original collision. >> Can I ask a dumb question? >> Uh, what's up? >> Did the guy out front make it? >> Uh, he did pass away, >> but I was afraid he was going to tell me. >> All right, Miss Kirkland, if you don't mind, I'm going to have you step over here in front of my patrol car for me. Okay. >> Okay. So I know like I said I know we already spoke spoke about not the crash ready but in a situation like this uh uh sometimes it goes into other things. Okay. So you're not under arrest. Okay. But I have to read you this. Okay. Do you mind not leaning on my car for me? Thank you. Sure. >> All right. So you do have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. >> Eyewitnesses paint a different picture. They say Kirkland hesitated then suddenly turned left right as the Toyota and a Honda were speeding down the road. And then there's the nail in the coffin, security camera footage. If that video confirms the Toyota had the right of way, then this crash is 100% on Kirkland. >> So, you never saw the two vehicles that are actually traveling northbound. >> There was nothing coming northbound. >> That's the direction those two vehicles were coming from. >> It hit me out of this side. >> No, they were they were there's video there. They were coming northbound. >> I didn't see nothing coming. >> You never you never saw them coming that way? Okay. >> I did not. >> All right. Um, was there anybody else in your vehicle? No, just me. >> You were just just you. So, you were driving the vehicle. >> Okay. Can you do field sobriety exercises? >> That's fine. >> Okay. All right. See the the white line ahead in front of you here. >> All right. We're going to step up on this white line for me. >> Yep. >> All right. I know you have flip-flops on. I'm going to recommend you recommend you take them off, but um just stand right there on the white line right where my flashlight is and face this direction for me. Okay. >> Hands on my side. Remember, look at when you take nine to steps, you're going to look at your feet. Count each step out loud. Um, don't stop and >> continue to finish the exercise. Okay. All right. Whenever you're ready, ma'am, you may begin. >> One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. Right. Am I right? >> Just like I instructed you, man. >> Am I right? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. >> She's in Texas. >> We can We can do this. We'll send it. Honestly, I don't know if we really even know where she is right now because there was a falling out with her dad and she was with the dad. >> You help her to her. >> Move her this way. All right, we're going to have to get up. >> Come on, baby. >> Then cops search her car and find something alarming. A bag of syringes sitting in the back seat. If lab tests come back positive for drugs, Kirkland could be looking at even more serious charges. Meanwhile, the injured driver later died at the hospital. >> 998 97 96. >> All right, ma'am. You are being placed under arrest for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage or any substance set forth in chapter 893. Under Florida law, you are required to submit to a loft test of your breath for the purpose determines alcohol content. Will you submit to a breath test? >> I don't care. >> My purse. Okay. Well, the purse is over there. We'll take it with us to the jail. >> You I'm going to try to record it while you're going through just so we have a copy of it so we don't have to take your phone. That's just my body camera. So, I'm just going to try to record it if you're comfortable with that. Just so we don't have to >> I don't want to deprive you of your phone. I'm going to switch spots with him. >> It was a 12mile drive. This is when the accident happened. They were at If you could hold it. I'm sorry. >> No, you're you're fine. >> I don't want it to mess up the video. >> Okay. Um, it says high speed and it won't say high speed unless if it's going over 80. So, he was at least going 80 miles an hour during this accident. Um, >> Oh, I see. So, display his vehicle. Okay. >> His top speed was 91. There was two instances of hard breaking and there was also one incident of ex of rapid acceleration. >> Okay. >> Yep. I think that should be good. Perfect. I greatly appreciate that. >> Yeah, you will let us uh shop. >> Okay, that's where they started. >> No, no worries. You know, I greatly appreciate >> Yeah, we we love that you any stuff like this is invaluable to kind of help us understand because we show up obviously afterwards. So, >> it it helps us kind of understand what happened prior to the crash. So, thank you for giving us consent to look at that. Um, >> it notifies me if they're going more than 20 miles an hour and they come to an immediate stop. It notifies me if there was a crash or he slammed his phone down or anything. I repeatedly tried to call him and I got no answers. >> The final blow. When Kirkland is booked into jail, her breathalyzer test tells the whole story. A blood alcohol level of 0.191 and 0.186, twice the legal limit. She's now facing two counts of DUI manslaughter. If convicted, she could be looking at up to 30 years behind bars, fines up to $10,000, and a lifetime driver's license revocation. On January 14th, 20125, cops got a call about a disorderly woman causing a scene, Taylor. She was pounding on a man's door after he broke things off with her. When officers arrived, they found her heavily intoxicated and trying to drive away. To stop her from taking off, they blocked her car with a patrol vehicle. And that's when things got messy. >> Put in park. Turn the car off. Turn it off. Turn it off. Taylor, turn it off. Turn the car off. Yes. Open the door. Step on out, Taylor. I'm going to pull up in front of her so she can't try to run. Kill her. Turn off. Don't get in more trouble. Okay. Here. Hand me the key. You know me. Hand me the key. >> Yeah. Just wants a second. I got the key. >> Keep doing No. >> No. Okay. Bust in the window then. >> No. I don't want to do that. Stop. Do not do not do that. Step out. >> I'm not. >> Step out. >> And I'm not. >> Step out. >> I'm not. >> Come on, Taylor. >> I already told you what I'm not doing. >> You're going to step out for me. >> I'm under arrest for >> You're under arrest for driving while suspended. >> You know what the is? >> You can't Stop. >> Damn. Tooth can't even damn near take a out of the car. >> Just put your arm behind your back. >> My arm hurt. Um, my rib hurts. >> Here you go. >> Oh, my rib really does hurt. >> Okay. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. >> No. My rib for real hurts. >> Stop. Stop. Stop. >> Um, I really cannot breathe. I really can't breathe. I cannot breathe. I'm really I'm really not. I'm not kidding. >> Hang on. >> Hang on. We'll get you in a second. >> I'm not kidding. >> Taylor refused to cooperate, dragging the situation out and making it even more dangerous. The officers had no choice but to physically remove her from the car, but she fought back hard, flailing, screaming, and making it as difficult as possible. [Music] You I already told you how many times >> my [Music] dad ho ain't nothing in my pockets, bro. last night or not. >> Oh, I'm so [Music] >> pressing on my name. What's your name? >> Let me go, bro. I'm not no threat to society, bro. Do you know who the I am? >> Let me the up. >> We're going to walk to this car. Yeah. Get >> in the car. >> I would love to. >> I don't know. With one foot, too. >> Get your other foot in. >> What? Cuz you're black. Don't nobody. >> I just want to go through see how many alcohols we >> Yeah. Do you mind doing it to? >> Yep. Thanks, bro. [Music] >> I need this for this for you. Put your seat belt on. >> First of all, put the >> put my hair on my face so I can talk to you like a real man. >> Okay. Thank you. Then don't do it like that. Damn. Okay. I'm not going to. First of all, you let me go. I'm trying to talk to him. >> I want to. >> Once they got her to the patrol car, she wasn't done yet. She kicked at the officers repeatedly and did everything she could to keep from being secured in the seat. Even after being taken back to the station, her attitude didn't cool down one bit. My hands. They hurt. They hurt. They hurt. >> We got to search her real quick and then we'll bunch of [Music] >> Are you ready to stand up? >> Please say Come on. Please. Wait. Stop pulling them. Please. >> You got to come all the way in. >> My hands are really bad. You got to go over here. We're going to search you and we're going to set you down. >> My a second. >> My My hands really hurt. >> We're going to take these off. >> This is really bad. I'm asking you to please stop. Please. I cannot feel this running nowhere. >> You got to lean forward. Your teeth. >> There you go. Sit down. >> What the was that about? >> You know what? You know I know every single last one of y'all. Don't you? >> It's okay. This is the threat. >> You're dying when I get out. >> Especially your fat ass. >> And I meant that everything you and your wife and your kids. I know everything about you cuz I looked you up when you just locked me up the other day. You >> How about that? Oh yeah. Now you look scared. You and your child. >> Is that going to work? >> You Why, bro? I hate you guys so bad. >> I know, Taylor. >> No, you ain't wrong for taking You ain't wrong. >> At the station, Taylor took things to another level, threatening the officer's children. She told them their kids would suffer in the future. But here's the thing. The cops didn't bite. They kept their cool, staying completely professional while she tried to provoke them. >> What is that? >> It's going to read you something. >> Why can't you? >> Cuz this is easy. >> I refuse. I refuse. I refuse. >> That's fine. >> I refuse. I refuse. >> This is a ticket for a DUI. >> I refuse. I refuse. >> And this is called the warning to motorists. And I'm going to give you a copy. >> I refuse. >> These are your copies. I said Iing refused that. What the are you studying handing me? I said what I just said. I'm sorry officer. What is that? >> Subsequent to an arrest for driving while under the inhalabanol concentration of either 5 or more of whole blood or 10 >> because you never said >> let me go. Let me go. I don't want to hear that. I do not want to hear that. >> Let me go, bro. You never asked me no serious question. Not, "Hey, Taylor, do you think you could walk a line?" You never asked me none of that. >> Yes or no? >> Yes or no? Did you bring me my rights? Yes or no? >> And I was so much off DUI. I'm trying to see like did I not carry it? >> Did it not come out? I got arrested and put in a car and no rights got written that as a >> Why the do you serious? What the is this AI? >> You guys, you guys can't remember how to read a light or something. >> Then came the next bad decision. She refused a breathalyzer test. Under the law, refusing can come with even harsher consequences than a failed test. Just saying no can automatically get your license suspended on the spot. >> Okay, but do not put me in a room, bro. That >> got to be handcuffed. >> What? >> Go in. Have a seat. You're looking at me like you're going to say something. So, I was looking at you. >> Thought you were going to tell me something. >> You know I'm not going to do nothing. >> Okay, go and have a seat. >> You already know what you going to do. >> Go ahead and have a seat. I'm going to put you in there so I can work on your paperwork cuz you said you want to get out of here, but you're making it take longer by sitting here and not doing what I tell you. >> No, on that side. >> Scoot over then and sit on that side of the handcuff. There's nothing funny. I don't know what the is funny to you. Like, >> okay, I can't wait till your daughter has to go through the same. And I swear to God, one day >> laughing at >> It's okay. One day your son, your son, he will have to or your >> a little bit. >> You haven't been here that long, okay? And you haven't been the most cooperative. So, calm down for a little bit. Chill out, sober up for a little bit. I'll come back and we'll get you on the phone. >> Why do you keep saying that? What the do you mean sober up? >> Cuz you're hammered. Okay. >> No, I'm not. >> Remember I talked to you at Benny's house and I told you not to drive and you said you wouldn't. You even took the keys out cuz cuz you were worried about getting a DUI cuz you knew you didn't have another driver, but you made some story up. >> No, I don't. Some other guy dropped you off right now. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. No, I do not. No, I don't know. >> In the end, she got arrested and charged with resisting arrest, traffic violations, and threatening an officer. And if she's convicted, she could be looking at a suspended license, fines, mandatory alcohol rehab, and maybe even jail time. >> You're war for disorder. You do not get your damn. >> This couple thought teamwork could help them dodge an arrest. >> Because all this can go away. You can go away and I can go away. >> Even a classy lady can lose her dignity when facing the law. Today we're diving into the world of sovereign citizens. Let's start with a couple who met on a dating app. Turns out their first date was one to remember. On August 28th, 2021 in Clearwater, Florida, police attempted to pull over a motorcycle with an unclear license plate. The rider made eye contact with the officers, then made a run for it, kicking off a high-speed chase that hit over 100 mph. And here's what happened next. >> Got a motorcycle fleeing in front of me. He's felling on chestnut. It's a white motorcycle. Two riders. It's a male driver, female passenger. >> Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Get off. Get off. Get off. Chance behind your back. >> Yes, sir. Turn around. We got to find. >> Good thing you didn't kill yourself or anybody else. >> It's a cute tag. You do it out of fun or just cuz you ride like an [ __ ] You're going to kill somebody. >> He's lucky he didn't kill himself. >> Anything else on you? I'm missing any Go ahead. Go through. Go ahead. >> Thank you guys. >> Anything else I'm missing on you? >> No. >> No. No. >> All right. Go ahead. Take a seat. >> You're under arrest for fleeing illusion and reckless driving. All right. >> Yes, sir. >> Good catch, Sarge. >> That's what I'm talking about. I'm good. >> That was a good rev. He was looking to go. >> Yeah, he was. Turn it off. >> Yeah, I yanked him off of us. >> That was a good catch, Sarge. Holy [ __ ] He could have killed himself. >> Blazing through city streets at that speed. One wrong move and it's game over. Instantly fatal. Maybe this guy had outrun the cops before and thought he could pull it off again. Or maybe, just maybe, he didn't want to look weak in front of his date because, yeah, this was their first night out. >> He could have killed his passenger. It's your boyfriend. >> It's my Tinder date. >> Your Tinder date? >> It's your Tinder date. It's >> going to look good when you end up in a morg from your Tinder date cuz he's driving 130 running. >> Hey, listen. I understand that that's your Tinder date, but you were just involved in something very serious. So, you're going to go in the back of this cop car for a little bit. Okay. Do you have anything on you at all? No. >> Just tell us now if you have something. Okay. >> All right. How are you? >> It's a white navy shirt, great pants. >> One last breakfast. >> What's up, buddy? >> What's up, man? Oh, Sarge right there. >> Subject hands down. >> Damn. Do you have anything on? >> No, I don't have anything. >> No weapons? No, nothing. >> No, just my phone, my credit card. No, my credit card, my debit card, and my phone. I have >> It's in his bag. >> It's in his bag. Okay. I'm just going to lift your shirt up just to make sure that you don't have anything on you. Okay. >> Just turn this way. >> Nothing in your bra or anything? No, you can't. You can lift it up if you want to. >> Ma'am, here's the deal. Calm down. Okay. Who is this side of you? >> I literally just met him like two days ago or a day ago. >> All right. Were you telling him to stop or anything? >> Okay. All right. Here's here's um she was just on the back, right? Just we're going to take you out of cuff right now, but we're going to sit you back here. Okay. So, just just chill out. All right. You got it. Just take her out of the couch. Just But we're going to we're just going to detain you right now in the back of the car just so that we can figure out what's going on. I know you're probably very scared right now, but we just try to take a couple deep breaths and calm down. Are you injured at all? You're not injured at all. Okay, sir. Do you need the fire fire department to come at all? >> Okay. Do me a favor. Just have a seat back here. >> The girl on the back, she was freaking out. Turns out she had just met this guy on Tinder 2 days earlier. She had no clue he was going to gun it when the cops showed up. But at this point, officers couldn't just let her walk away. They had to figure out whether she was in on it or just caught in the chaos. >> Back in. >> Okay. Well, listen. You're safe. Okay. You're fine. You You easily could have died tonight. Okay. So, but you're But you're safe right now. Okay. Okay. So, just just take a couple deep breaths. Just calm down. Okay. >> Did he really I I heard >> Oh, yeah. >> And you tackled him off. It looked like >> Go ahead. Dump it. >> Yeah. >> You're coming right off the back. >> Jeez. >> Your phone and your wallet are in or your phone and your ID are with him in his bag. >> And my my my um the green vape. If anything, can I have that, please? Because that's >> Will that calm you down? Okay. Let me let me get the vape. >> So, you can calm down. Okay. I was right behind it. I came up to a chestnut and I was coming up behind it. He looked at me and took off right through the red light and I'm like, "Oh, here we go." >> Hey, I I took her out of she's freaking out. She's in your clothes. >> Yeah. No, she's I can tell her >> she just met this guy on Tinder 2 days ago and she's literally like freaking the hell out. So, I was like, "Just sit back here. Just relax." She she was I guess she told me that she's like yelling at him to stop stop because she thought she was going to die. >> She was going to die. He was driving like an absolute maniac. >> I'm not going to give you any life advice or anything, but I would probably say get rid of this guy cuz this isn't the first time he's done this. >> Start from the beginning. What happened in your perspective? >> Um I swiped right on Tinder. We talked. >> How long that was? You said you said a couple days ago. >> Technically like two days. Yesterday technically two days. >> What did you guys go do today? >> I went to Clear Water Beach. >> Like where at Clear Water Beach? >> Got drinks. We sat on the edge. We had like a genuine like time and everything like that. And I thought it was going wonderful. >> What are you saying as he's going through traffic at 100 miles an hour leaving and out of car? >> Anxiety attack. So you were just freaking out at the time. Would you say anything to him? >> Like I'm just chill. Like slow down. >> After questioning her, it became clear she had nothing to do with his bad decisions. She didn't sign up for a high-speed police chase. She got dragged into a life-threatening situation without warning. Bottom line, she wasn't a willing participant in this mess. >> He didn't say nothing to you the whole time. He didn't say we're going to get away. He didn't say nothing. >> Do you know him to be somebody that commits a lot of crimes or anything like that? You just >> Yeah. >> And he didn't say anything to you at all that he was wanted or he anything. >> Is he wanted? >> I don't know. Is he? >> No, I don't think so. I hope not. >> Did you notice that his his tag on his motorcycle was bent like that? >> Yes. >> Just to let you in on a secret for us. If you see a tag like that, it means they run from the cops. >> Okay. So that was the original reason why we stopped him and then he ran the red light and then he took off cuz he does this all the time I'm sure. >> So that's just a little information for you. If you see a tag like that, >> right? Cuz you're going to get yourself in a position like this. >> All right, Taylor. So you know what happened? What happened? >> Uh I was driving like a jackass and got pulled over. >> So did you you you saw us there back on on North Myrtle? >> What did what did you do at North Myrtle? Accelerator. >> What's that? >> I accelerated. >> Well, first like you know you were pulling up to that light. >> Why did you run in the beginning is what I want to know. Like what would what what made you think I should run? >> I don't know. Through adrenaline. >> Do you usually do this over in Tampa or I mean it doesn't get held against you. I'm asking seriously. >> No, not really, man. Hanging out with a girl. I don't know. >> Trying to show off or something. >> Yeah. >> So you >> I know what I did was stupid. Have you ever been arrested for fleeing before? >> No. >> Have you seen the videos of Clear Water cops catching motorcycles fleeing all the time? >> No. Do you remember running the red light at Chestnut? >> I'm not going to say cuz I don't know what street is what. I don't know the area. >> The initial one where you saw this blue car behind you. >> Yeah. >> I saw I saw you look back at us and I think that's when it clicked that. >> Appreciate your cooperation, but ultimately you fled from the cops. You got caught. Oh man, I know what I did. I'm not I'm not trying to justify. All I asked was if um >> I asked the other officer, he'd never give me an answer. If I'm going to jail, if I could just use my phone to call my dad so you know, he doesn't go to sleep. >> Whenever you get to the jail that you can get phone numbers out of your phone and then so he'd still be awake so >> and just to get some more information on her, how do you know her? >> Uh we met her through a dating app. >> Okay. And how long have you guys known each other? >> Our first time now. She what was she saying to you the whole time? Uh what else was going on today? >> I couldn't hear her. >> Okay. Was she Did you feel like she was freaking out or was she just calm or >> All right. Again, appreciate your cooperation and uh >> tight. All right. >> Yeah, it's not. >> In the end, the woman was released while the guy got slapped with some serious felony charges for running from the cops at reckless speeds. The takeaway: Tinder dates can be exciting, but picking the wrong match too fast without knowing who they really are can land you in a world of trouble. July 4th, 2024. Cops were called to the scene of a single car crash in New Jersey after a woman slammed into a utility pole. Turns out she'd been drinking at Donovan's Reef Bar before getting behind the wheel. And this is what happened when officers arrived. >> Okay, why don't you come over here? Are you hurt at all? No, I'm fine. >> I am fine. Honestly, I [ __ ] up. >> Okay, just have a seat. Just sit down so you don't fall. >> Yes. >> No, I'm up. I'm fine. >> Okay. Can I look? >> I >> Where were you coming from? >> I am coming from >> And just so you know, the body cam's on, so it's recording. Okay, >> that's fine. >> Did you drive up this hill? >> I did drive up this hill. >> Okay. So, you were out at the 7-Eleven. Is that what was going on? Yeah, I was down the shore. >> You were down the shore. Okay. >> All right. What's going on tonight, young lady? >> I'm sorry. >> What happened? >> I was down at the shore. I'm having a really bad night. >> I up my car. >> All right. I just got to let you know you are being recorded on a body warn camera. Okay. >> Is that your car right now? >> All right. Did you observe it, sir? Well, I didn't see it when it happened, but I was the whole saw. >> You didn't see the accident? >> All right. You're not hurt? >> No, I'm perfectly fine. >> All right. >> What's that? >> Do you want to have the uh EM? We're going to have the ambulance take a look at you. Okay. >> I'm really fine. Where were you drinking? >> At um Donovan's Donovan. >> Oh, Reef Sebrite. >> Yes. >> All right. >> She tried to keep it together, but the panic was all over her face. The problem? Cops are trained to spot the signs like the strong smell of alcohol lingering in the air. She admitted she was having a bad night and kept bringing up personal issues. Negative emotions and alcohol a dangerous mix when it comes to decisionm. >> I have a son. >> We're just we're concerned that you're okay, miss. That's the main thing. Okay. >> I am okay. I swear I am really sorry. >> Well, you didn't get physically and you didn't hurt anybody neither. Thank God. What if you got into an accident and hurt somebody? A lot of things happened and I just can't believe this happened. >> Well, were you doing anything while you were driving? Were you talking to anybody or >> I was fine. No, I wasn't even on the phone or anything. I really don't even know how this happened. >> Then came the denial. With the booze fully kicking in, she claimed she wasn't that drunk and had no idea what happened. The reality, she was lucky. This crash only took out a utility pole, not a pedestrian or another driver. Where'd you go to college? >> Kane University. >> So up. >> I'm sorry. >> Oh, it's okay. You're okay. >> Hello. >> How are you? >> How you doing? What's your name? >> Juliet. >> Juliet. My name's Dominic. Were you Were you you the only one in the car? >> Only one? Yes. >> Okay. Where were you coming from? >> Donovan. Oh, >> okay. Where were you headed home? >> Do you live around here? >> Yes. Well, keep not really around here. >> Well, it's in in the county though. You're not coming from up north or anything. >> Okay. >> All right. Would you mind uh standing up for me? I just want to make sure you're not hurt or anything. >> Yeah, you I'll come bring you over here. >> All right. Here. I'm going to uh I'm just going to do some tests to make sure you're okay. I mean, you don't like you don't have gluccom or anything like that? >> No. >> So, can you see the tip of my pen here? >> Mhm. >> Okay. So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to move the pen back and forth. I just want you to follow it with your eyes and your eyes only. Okay. So, don't move your head. Okay. You understand? >> Mhm. And the tensions are at the top. So, when it does, the tensions are going to be in the other lane. Yeah. Yeah. >> Cops ran one of the most reliable DUI tests, checking for involuntary eye jerks. When someone is intoxicated, their nervous system betrays them, making it impossible for their eyes to track smoothly. And then came the field sobriety test. >> Okay. Do you have any problems with your uh knees or legs? Anything like that? All right. Are you able to do like a walking walking in the sandals? Would you rather take the sandals off? >> You're okay in the sandals? >> No. >> Did I have a heel or they're flats? No. >> Okay, you understand that? So, while you're doing it, you're going to count out loud. You're going to look at your feet while you're walking. You're going to keep your hands at your sides and once you start, don't stop until you're done. Okay? >> Mhm. >> You understand? >> Yep. >> All right. You can start. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 >> 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8. So, what you're going to do is you're going to lift whichever foot you want, either left or right. You're going to lift the foot about six inches off the ground. You're going to keep that foot parallel to the ground like this. And you're going to keep your hands at your sides. And you're going to keep your legs straight. And you count out loud. 1,00 1,002 100,00. Just Just try your best. That's all. You can start. 1 1,00 2 100 3 100 4 100 5 100 6 100 700 I touched the ground. >> That's fine. You can keep going. >> Oh, pick it up again. >> Yeah. 8 1,00 9 1 100 11 100 1 >> 13 >> She tried her best to walk the line, but her balance was shot. Clean it up. Have you ever? >> No, >> I don't think so. >> I think I'm fine. >> All right, Julia. Um, so can you do me a favor? Can you turn around for me? Please put your hands behind your back. Please. >> So, you're being placed under arrest for DUI. >> Why? >> You did not pass any of the tests. Car over there. No. >> Okay. Do >> you want to start right here real quick then? >> I'll do it. >> So, Julia, we're just going to go over there. We're going to do some paperwork and stuff. I'll get you out of there as soon as we can. Okay. This hold on. I just didn't see the accident or any seat belt around you. >> Sitting on it. Sorry. Dana, can you just buckle up? It's like stuck around. Back. >> That was it. She was done. Officers took her back to the station for a blood alcohol test. Meanwhile, her car was impounded and her insurance info was recorded for the damages. We're going to go right through the story. So, I'll explain in there what we're going to do. We're going to go we just got to do some paperwork and then uh do the breathalyzer and I got to read some stuff to you. But then, um once we're done with everything, we just got call for get your ride home. Oh, you can have a seat on the bench right over here. Um, so this is just a form. You can read it. It's basically So, I'm just going to tell you in as little few words as possible, she was arrested for DUI. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Um, there was a motor vehicle accident with it. But that's all that's all I'm going to tell you. I She can tell you whatever she wants to tell you about it. That's just this is just a this is called the John's law form. It basically just says if she drives again that you would be you you would be liable. >> Okay, >> that's all. Um >> my only issue is is I work for the government. If anything is this going to affect me? >> No, no, no. You're just you're just you're just signing her out basically. And you're going to drive home? >> Yes. >> So you're say probably. >> And how bad did she mess up everything on the highway? >> Um when you leave here, you can look across the street. Yeah, I Yeah, cuz I had to take the detour to come around. So, she's going to be responsible for all of that. I'm only handling this part. There's a The officer gave her a uh a case number for the the >> Yeah, where's like all the information that >> So, the he the only thing we needed was her she was able to get it for me on her phone. the uh her policy number for the car for the insurance. >> Okay. >> Uh she got that for me. So uh he's going to do the accident report that usually I'll tell I'm going to tell her also that he gave her a card with a case number on it. Uh it takes about 5 to seven business days for that to be uh for her to be able to get it like if she needs a copy. >> Um I've never heard of her insurance so I'm I'm not sure a lot of she needs to call and file a claim also. In the end, she got hit with a whole list of charges: DUI, refusing the breath test, careless and reckless driving, lane violations, and driving without insurance. And in New Jersey, DUI penalties aren't light. She's looking at a suspended license, fines, mandatory alcohol education classes, and maybe even jail time, depending on how bad her BAC was. Oh, and let's not forget, she's also on the hook for all the damages, including repairing the utility pole and any other infrastructure she wrecked. January 15th, 2022. While on routine patrol, officers spotted a car flying down the road at 75 mph in a 50 mph zone. Then, without warning, the driver cut across lanes to go in the opposite direction. That's when the cops flipped on the lights and pulled them over. When they approached the vehicle, they immediately noticed something was off. The driver's eyes were bloodshot and watery. >> Hi, good evening. I'm officer Nicole George was going 75 back there before he hit that U-turn. Do you have your license, registration, insurance? >> I was going 75. >> 75. >> Interesting. >> Where you coming from tonight? That side of your car look like you're smoking. We're just going to put them up on the roof. >> Going from Blue Point. >> Yes. >> In off the PJ Boulevard. >> Blue Point is up in >> There's two blue points. >> No, >> there's a cigar. There's a cigar shop and bar and then there's a Blueoint Taco in >> Well, I'm I'm not familiar with that one, but the Blue Point that I came from was up in >> the taco shop, right? >> No, not a taco shop. >> What is Blue Point? >> What is Blueoint? >> I'm sorry. You're very It's is um is the Jupiter Point Marina. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah. And then and then what they have is they have a Blue Blue point restaurant. It's very cool. I >> Nice. Good food. food, >> good drinks >> is way better. >> Do they have any good specials? >> I'm not sure. >> Any good happy hour or anything? >> I'm not sure about all that. >> I just I honestly the food is way better than Square Grouper. >> Okay. I'm not a big fan of Square Grouper. >> I'm not. Right. >> Not a big fan of Square Grouper. I never got on that train. >> As the officer got closer, they saw smoke coming from the car. Was it from an overheated engine or leftover damage from a prior crash? Either way, the driver's nervous, stumbling answers made one thing clear. They had no memory of what just happened. >> All right, man. If you would, come on out here real quick. Want to make sure you're all set to drive home. >> Okay. >> Come on out. I'll explain it. >> Okay. >> Come on back over here. Do you have any medical condition with your eyes not corrected by glasses? Let me grab my jacket. You >> your jacket? >> Yeah, I'm Do you have any medical condition with your eyes not corrected by glasses? >> No, I do not. >> Are you able to walk a straight line? >> Oh. Are you able to walk the line with those heels on? >> I'm not. It's up to you. Okay. This is your chance. >> I would like to try because this is >> You want to try with the shoes on? Okay. All right. Go ahead and begin. >> Hold on. >> All right. All right. All right. All right. All right. >> Then came the sobriety test, and it was a disaster. During the eye test, the driver's head wouldn't stay still, and their eyes twitched uncontrollably, a classic sign of severe impairment. When it came time for the field sobriety test, it was over before it even started. The driver failed so miserably that officers had to call it off and move straight to an arrest. >> Thank you. >> All right, man. We're going to we're going to go ahead and we're going to place you under arrest for DUI. We can't do these exercises cuz it's going to hurt you. You almost fell and and busted your head on this the thing there. >> I didn't almost >> Well, that's cuz this this gentleman right here caught you. >> I didn't touch you. That hurt pretty hard. >> Oh my gosh. Oh my goodness. >> All right, come on over to my car right here. >> Okay, can I get my shoes? >> We'll get your shoes for you here. Just stand right here. >> All right, this officer is going to search you. Okay, >> let's go. Do you have anything illegal on you? >> No, I do. >> Anything that's going to poke me or stick me? >> Nope. >> Okay. >> Oh my goodness. This is a lot of work. >> I'll get to that. I'll >> let you do your thing. Okay. Separate your feet for me. Why are your pants all wet? >> Position the bracelet off. >> Does this bracelet have a clasp? >> Hold on. I'm trying to figure out how to take the bracelet off. >> Does it have a clasp? >> Yes, it does. My mother I got I got it. I got it. I got to make sure you have no rings on. >> And that's when reality hit. The driver knew there was no talking their way out of this. The panic started to set in. Lean forward a little bit. >> That we're not >> All right, I'll lean. What else he want? >> We're not looking for anything in your car. >> Obviously, he is. >> We're doing an inventory. >> Can I Can I tell you this? So, we don't have to ask your permission. You do actually have to ask my permission to watch my car. >> Can I search your car? >> That's why she car. >> That's all I wanted. That's all >> I do. Turn around. Face >> me. Where all the drugs at? >> They're going to go. >> They're expensive. Please. They're going to go with you. Don't worry. >> Try not to move. >> It's all going to go in your property. >> You're going to sit back here. Okay. >> Over here. >> Okay. First and foremost, may I put my shoes back on cuz my feet are very cold. >> I'm going to get your shoes. Just give me a second. >> Sitting there. >> I will. Okay, man. My phone so I can call somebody. >> We got your phone, too. >> I am sure you have my phone. But I asked his >> We can't make a phone call right now. When you go down to the jail, you can make a phone call. Okay. >> Oh my god. >> Rachel, you want to buckle your >> You buckle in. >> Scoot all the way back. >> I I mean, I don't know how farther back I can scoot. >> Yeah, but lean back. Lean back. >> I know. I don't want to lean back cuz it hurts my wrist. It hurts my wrist. >> You lean back until I buckle you in. Okay. And then you can sit however you want. >> I mean, can't can't I have my my wrist in front of me? Why don't that hurts? >> Okay. Put your hands together like you're praying. >> I can't put my hands together like I'm praying because if I was praying, >> you're going to have to just lean back for one second till I buckle you in. She requested it. >> All right. >> Thank you. >> Thank you. I want that. >> On the way to the squad car, they kept complaining about how uncomfortable the cuffs were, begging for them to be adjusted. The officers remained professional and accommodating, but once the suspect realized there was no delaying the inevitable, they finally went silent. Their voice softer, their attitudes subdued. >> No. >> Can I get my shoes, please? >> I don't have your shoes. Your shoes are in your car. >> You're going to get flipflops in my shoes and my purse and everything's in my car. >> Yeah, but I have your phone right here. Let's go this way. Walk. All right, we're going over here. >> Just put my shirt down >> once we get inside. Come on. >> Why are you being mean? >> I'm not being mean. >> You are. >> I don't think so. >> Yes. >> All right, we're going to go up these stairs here. >> Yeah. Are we going to that last door on the right? >> Okay. Yeah, I'll do that. Thank you. >> No, we were going to the breathalyzer, but no, we're going to come over here first. >> They took her back to the station for a breathalyzer or blood test. And no surprise here, her BAC was twice the legal limit. At that point, there was no way out. She was officially charged with DUI and resisting arrest. If convicted, she's looking at fines, losing her license, and maybe even jail time. What happens when a drunk driver slams into a utility pole? On February 25th, 2023, police in Ohio were called to a neighborhood dispute over kids playing outside. A mother had called the cops after two women started arguing over her son. And here's what went down when officers arrived. >> Okay. So, what started this? >> Well, they said I was going down there to see what happened. My son was in the thing and I don't know after that. >> Was it just a verbal argument or >> Yeah, it does. They have like, you know, they have like they're in the hood. >> Get in the car. Here's my thing. Why are you crying? >> Because you don't want to yell at me crying now. >> Sit in the car. You're going to jail. >> Go get a different officer. >> No, I am the lieutenant. Sit in the car. You're going to jail. >> What's she got to sit in the car for? >> Because she's outside screaming. And when the cops tell you to get in the car, that's not a suggestion, it's an order. But these ladies, they weren't having it. And they took things up a notch. You're kidding, right? Nope. >> There's got to be some type of sick. >> You stay right here. Don't touch me. >> You stay right here. This has to be some type of a sick joke. >> Turn off the car. >> Let me see your phone. >> Get him off of me. >> No. Get him off of me. Get off of me. What are you doing? >> Get her. I'm not worried about the phone right now. >> Stop moving. >> I'm not moving. What are you guys doing? I'm not moving. >> Told you you're Get off of me. double lock. >> What are you yelling? >> Get off of me. >> You kicked me one more time. >> Okay. >> What are you doing? >> What are you doing? Why the >> Get in the car. >> Get my phone. >> Get in the car. >> Get my phone. >> I don't even know people's phone. What the how the I go to jail? >> I cannot go to jail. >> What? I am a grown woman. I have bills and responsibilities. What are you doing? >> Make better choices. >> Both women ignored police commands repeatedly. And here's where things really spiraled. During the struggle, the woman in pink jumped in to help her friend break free from the officer's grip. Meanwhile, the one being restrained straight up attacked the cop. And that that's how you rack up even more charges. >> We're okay. The two are under arrest. >> Sorry. I tried to talk to them and see this is what they was doing to me when I was trying to >> How do you know them? >> I don't know them. My son was playing with her was he's back here all the time with his sister. Well, they said that he went >> 240 can continue to his call. >> He said she said supposedly he hit her nephew and I was trying to come out and this is what they was trying to do to me the whole entire time. >> Where do they live? >> I don't know where they live. >> I don't know. >> And said the whole neighborhood does not like all the way down there. like all the way down there. >> Who? You don't know who they are? >> No, I just went to go figure out to see what was going on. What was going on? Because they came yelling at me like this before my mom called you guys on my call because they said they was going to beat me up. >> And the last they said they supposed he tried to punch his nephew and I was trying to see and it said that he was said that my mom don't my mom don't let me play with black guys. >> So they came here. >> Yeah. >> To argue with him. >> Yeah. And so that supposedly she was fighting trying to he was trying to fight with his nephew down there. >> Okay. >> So I don't know who hit >> this lady. Is this your car? >> You have written uh statements today. >> Uh they were back here in a bag. >> You grab it now, I think. >> Okay. It should be >> Who can come get your car? >> Are you really going to take me to jail? >> I'm about to charge you with assault on me. >> Assault. >> You elbowed me in the face. >> You elbowed me in the face. >> It couldn't have been on purpose. I did not. >> The thing is I'm trying to restore order. Okay. >> Can you please can I please explain to you the situation? >> That's what I wanted to >> because it sounds like you were not in the wrong >> off. I was not in the wrong. She said >> you should have called us in the first place. >> Those kids I told her that I would call the police. My damn. >> Okay. So, what happened? So I pulled up. I was driving past. I saw my nephew who was jumping on the trampoline down at your house or >> No, he was jumping on the trampoline by his house and I started talking to them and then that's when he told me that he got punched in the chin by a little boy. >> Okay. >> When >> this whole thing started with a disagreement about kids, but it was the adults who escalated it into something much worse. And if you look closely, it all came from one mindset. the belief that I'm always right instead of stepping back and seeing things from a different perspective. >> You're looking at a potential felony. >> You have to be kidding. I have no record. >> So that's when an officer tells you to do something, you do it. This isn't the place to argue with an officer. Okay. >> A felony like prison. >> What am I going to do in prison? How how am I going to live life outside of after I go to prison? I'm not the one that hit me in the face. >> Should I have him just to go down to apologize for watching? I don't know if it's true or not. Stay away. Okay. Cuz >> it sounds like he was fighting down there. >> Well, I got told you calm down now. >> I I was always calm. You were You was the one that was riled up. >> No, I told you guys to get in the car. There's a reason for it. Okay. When you guys come out, it's just me here, right? >> Mhm. >> I need to separate parties. I can't have everybody fighting in the middle of the street because it's not safe for anybody. So, when an officer tells you to do something, you have to do it. There's a reason. I've been doing this longer than you've been alive. Okay? Makes things 50 times worse. I could have thrown you both to the ground. I could have tased both of you by the way you guys were acting. I think you guys came down here with right somewhat right intent, but we should have been called Well, before any of this happened. >> Okay. >> So, just sit tight here and we're going to figure out everything. I got to get my mind like figure out what actually occurred with all this. Okay. So, just sit tight. >> After that, officers spoke to a witness, possibly a family member to get more details about what really went down. >> When did he hit you? >> Like over there. >> Okay. >> The girl on there is my sister. >> Okay. What's going on? >> Is that Nikia? >> Nikia? Yeah. >> She's >> She got out of the car to defend him >> and told her to get back in the car cuz everybody was screaming at each other. They didn't listen. She continued to yell and scream. So, I went to put her in cuffs. Her and her friends started fighting me. I got elbowed in the face. I got scratched up. If he comes around you, go tell an adult or just go home, okay? Cuz if somebody's going to talk that way to you or treat you that way, >> you don't need them in your life, right? So go tell a trusted adult because that's not the right way for somebody to act. All right. You seem like a good kid. You a good kid. I don't know. You don't sound too confident in that answer. So >> So I'll let him tell you cuz I I wasn't here for most of it. So I don't know. >> You're under arrest for at least I'm for disorderly and resisting arrest. >> I didn't resist arrest. >> You Yeah. I was trying to put her in cuffs and you grabbed her up. So you're res you're interfering with my investigation and my arrest of her. So that's resisting arrest. So and then when I told you not to move, you continued to move. Got in the car and climbed over. So >> that's cuz you were putting your hands on me >> because you're under arrest. >> How are you going to arrest two people at the same time? >> If they're compliant, it's easy. >> They She wasn't complying. >> I know. That's what I said. That's why it's it's difficult. >> Yeah. >> Cuz there's two people and you're not. >> So I'm being arrested for what? at least right now disorderly and resisting arrest. >> Okay. >> I'm too old to be fighting with young girls. Okay. >> You just watch out for a second. Okay. >> I wasn't fighting. I was trying to protect my friend. >> I understand. Hey, seriously, just we'll work with you, okay? >> Thank you. >> Mhm. >> I do apologize. >> You're okay. Hopefully, next time we see each other, we just laugh and give each other high fives and stuff. >> Are you going to remember me? >> Hopefully not. >> I'm going to remember you. >> Misdemeanor, little misdemeanor. So, it's really not that big of a deal. If I wanted to, I could ruin your whole life probably because when she's get she could have got charged with a felony when you complicit to that, you get the same charge. >> A felony? >> Then I'm going to be a felon. >> You could have been, but I'm not going to charge you. Okay. >> Thank you. >> Um, what are you going to school for? >> Psychology. >> Okay. >> Where's my sister? >> Is that newly over there? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Why don't you stand up for me? You don't want to wear those anymore, do you? >> No, I don't. >> Okay. >> Have we learned a lesson today? >> I don't like you guys. >> That's the lesson I learned. >> Okay, then I can just charge you with a felony. >> Please don't charge me with a film. >> Have a seat. >> I've learned that you guys >> No, you're done. Have a seat. >> I'll give you a reason. >> It was a joke. Just >> I was going to give you two misdemeanor, kick you out the door. Now you can just go to jail. >> The joke. I thought you were laugh. >> Both women ended up getting a free ride to jail. And if you've been paying attention, you can see how their attitude played a big role in how officers handled the situation. In the end, they were charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. But when they got to court, they denied everything and only walked away with a $25 fine each for disorderly conduct. So, what happens when a woman completely loses her dignity on the internet? February 9th, 2024. Police responded to a shoplifting report at Kohl's. This couple was suspected of swiping about $250 worth of merchandise. Officers quickly identified their vehicle, and after reviewing the store's security footage, they had enough evidence to make an arrest. One of them, Jon, happened to be an MMA fighter, which meant officers had to be extra cautious. The guy was built like a tank, easily bigger and stronger than all three cops combined. This wasn't going to be a routine arrest. And here's what went down next. >> PC. It's not like, well, it might be. >> And it matches all the deal, isn't it? >> Yeah, it matches the deal. >> He's not the UFC fighter or whatever. >> Oh, yes, he is. >> Well, just keep all your officer safety [ __ ] in mind, man. Like, they're they're monsters. >> He's bigger than all three of us. So, >> you want to just rip it? It looks good. [Music] >> Lindsay's coming to the door. >> Hello, Lindsay. How are you? Is John available as well? >> Okay. >> You have to have a conversation. >> Okay. >> I mean, I just seen a gentleman go inside that fit the description. Oh, there's John. >> Hey, John. How are you? >> Hey, John. >> How you doing? >> Good. So before we do anything, just for everyone's safety, I know you guys aren't going to want to do this, but unfortunately I just wanted to detain everyone for safety. So let's go ahead and turn this away for me. >> Okay, we'll take care of it. How old is >> Yeah, this is just for safety precautions. Okay. >> What? For what? >> We'll go over here in just one second. No, of course not. >> Well, our our shepherd is >> right. And we have to go pick up our kids. So, >> I'm not sure what's going on, but have stuff that we need to do. >> Do you have I haven't put it on my newspad yet. I'll read this to you guys and question him. >> I'm sorry. We can read them both and have them both answer that and then >> before we answer any questions or we talk to you about anything. Okay. >> You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used you against you. >> At first, the woman tried to play it off, claiming Jon wasn't home. But the cops weren't buying it. They had just seen a man inside. And sure enough, Jon didn't hesitate to step outside and face them. With a suspect trained in combat, officers couldn't afford to wait around and hope for a peaceful surrender. Do we understand each of these rights that I've explained to you? Of >> course. >> Okay. >> With these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to us now? >> No. >> Not if we don't have to. >> Okay. >> That you're right. That's why I had to go over that with you. >> Um I I really I need water. I just kind of >> Right. We just finished working out. >> I might pass out. I haven't worked on >> Do you need medical attention? >> No. Can we just get water? >> Well, unfortunately at this time we're not going to do that. See, we have some information at Kohl's where you guys were in there and you proceeded past the point of payment, which means you guys have um are going to be charged with retail theft. Okay. That's why we read Miranda to you. You had the opportunity to speak with us. Regardless of that, I have enough um information and probable cause to arrest you guys for both of that. >> Can you get these? >> We can call a friend or family member to come help take care of your family. Then the next option >> and you're not taking our kids. >> I'm not taking them. I'm going to have to contact VCF. No, you're not. >> Absolutely not. You're not. >> Unfortunately for that. Um, that's what we're going to do. You don't get the choice of that anymore because you guys are both being placed under arrest theft. >> We did not steal anything. >> Okay. >> So, I'd like to know and you can >> fight that battle when that time comes, but it's not going to be today. >> Okay. >> You'll turn and face away from me. Weapons. >> Her weapons? >> Yeah. Any Do you have anything on you that's stick me? >> No, I don't have anything. Go inside and turn around. This is ridiculous. Stop. >> Easy enough. >> Stop. Stop. >> No. That's my Look at my son. >> Okay, then we'll walk to our car doesn't have to see it. >> I appreciate your cooperation. >> You don't want to walk to the car. You want to get tased. >> That's what we want. You want to be carried like a child? You want to show this to your son? >> No. I don't know why you're here. >> Stand up. >> I'm not standing up. >> I'm not standing up. >> Do you want to stay here with her? And then I'll just pull the car up. That works. >> And then we'll drag her from there. >> You will not because that's assault. You're assaulting me for no reason on my own property. >> You want to go for a resistance, too? >> No, I want to get Leave me alone, dude. >> The officers laid it all out. They had surveillance footage showing the couple strolling past the checkout without paying, which was more than enough to hit them with retail theft charges. But the moment the woman realized DCF could get involved, she lost it. Her panic turned to aggression, making an already bad situation even worse. >> We need to call. >> I can't get my phone. How are we supposed to call her? >> That's the only person I have. Get off of me. >> It's not happening now. Okay, I'm going back to my house because that was my house. >> You're going to get tased. You want >> now? >> You're going to get to the damn car. >> Give me my shoes. Give me my shoes and my phone. >> This is over. This is >> You're about to get tased. >> Get up now. You just pushed me down. How am I supposed to get up? >> Three seconds. Get up. You're going to get tased. One. >> I can't get up because you're pushing me down. Oh, give me my shoes. >> Give me my shoes. >> Give me your shoes. >> Stop, dude. This is [ __ ] >> Here, walk this way so it's not so much of a >> do this. Give me my shoes >> and my phone. How am I supposed to call someone without my phone? Can you tell me that? >> Put your >> Can you tell me how I'm supposed to call someone without my phone? >> There's How am I supposed to get a phone number? >> Remember them. >> Watch your phone. >> Remember them. We don't have anyone here. >> You're not to get it again. Stop. Go. >> That's all I'm worried about for sure. >> She >> I got medics coming for him. >> Right. Do you have anyone that we can call? Friend, coworker. >> I do. I do. She can come immediately. I >> You have a phone number for her? >> I don't I don't know her phone. >> Where's your phone at? >> My head. >> You could at least give me my shoes. It's hot as back here. You going to You trying to kill me, too? >> There you go, ma'am. It's on Max. >> Okay. I need my phone and my shoes and you cannot go in my house. So, I need to go get them. >> That's never going to happen. >> My house. >> When a suspect feels like they're losing control, they'll cling to whatever power they have left, whether it's their shoes, their phone, or in this case, resisting arrest. It's a classic sign of panic where logic goes out the window. And sure enough, she pushed it too far, trying to slip out of her cuffs, which only added another charge to the list. >> And DCF will go in just to get your son. >> No, they won't. No one is touching my son, >> by the way. >> Okay. >> You will not be touching. >> And DCFS won't either. That's not how this works. You don't just take people's kids for no reason. >> You're right. We don't. We take them for their safety. >> For their safety. My kids are the safest kids in the world. >> Not when they're by themselves. >> Hello. >> Is this Jillian? >> Yes. >> Hey, Alan with the Cape Coral Police Department. I'm here with John. >> Do you Do you want me to just go ahead and ask her to come over and watch the boys? >> Yeah. Jillian, can you get the door open? Can you please come over? >> Did Jillian answer? >> Uh, I don't know. I'll let you know here in a minute. >> Yes, I will. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> How long do you think you'll be? Uh, I live 5 minutes down the road. >> Okay, great. Thank you. >> Oh, you guys got big mama coming, right? So, you can handle me. Is that right? >> No, you're >> Yeah. >> Yeah. She's on her way. She'll be here in like four minutes. >> Would you like EMS to check you out? >> No. For what? >> For what? >> For anything? >> No. >> All right. We'll grab your hat and and all that stuff. So, >> we're just going to uh Oh, is this >> is this Jillian? >> Hi, Jillian. Hey, >> so these two on camera stealing from Kohl's. Very clear. Very PC. >> We need to let them know. I guess it's just Jillian. Wait, >> there goes the dog. Way to go, you stupid pigs. You let the dog out. There she goes. She's going to get hit by a car. Way to go. >> Good job. >> Your friend let your dog out. >> Oh, because you guys are here for no reason. >> Because you were stealing a coal, man. >> I wasn't stealing [ __ ] >> I was stealing. I was by picking up an order. An order that I paid for. You want to see my receipt? I could show you. >> And then you put other items in there. >> No, I didn't. Where? I'd like to see them. >> I'd like to see them. >> And I got to just um search your pockets real quick. What were you going >> the dog out? She did. That's what I said. That's funny. She started yelling and she's like, "You're yelling at your friend." John, on the other hand, he saw the writing on the wall. At that point, he'd rather deal with jail than his girlfriend's meltdown. But when she realized the cops weren't backing down, all that anger turned into sheer desperation. >> What? Hey, >> go get the dog, please. >> Does she need to lock the dogs up? >> Can they be out? >> I would say, by the way, she's screaming that >> her hands are numb. her hands. She's put a leash on her or something. >> She's right there. She's right there. >> We're going to get your dog. >> Let the dog get hit by car and die. >> I'm going to let you calm down so we can readjust your cuffs. >> But I'm not going to do anything that you say until I do that. >> I Well, please go get my dog. Go get the dog. Please just put a leash on her. >> How is this so difficult? >> No. >> Good. He was feeling lightheaded cuz he's fasted all day. >> He's good though. Thank you. I appreciate it. >> So, >> I have a little issue. >> He's out of her handcuffs on the back. >> So, we have to take her back out. Awesome. Get them back on. >> So, >> Jillian needs this papers from the car. >> She needs two yellow papers. >> Hold on, ma'am. So, here here's the deal. So, you took your handcuff off. Now, that might not seem like a big deal to you. >> It slipped off. Okay. >> Cuz I'm sweating back here and you had it right here, >> right? Um, you have to put them back on. Okay. >> Now, I want you to face me and I want you to put both hands behind your back and keep them there. Okay. Face me. Pull the one behind your back and keep them there the entire time until we get your handcuffs refaced. Okay. >> You guys got that side. I'll go here. >> I just don't understand. Then what's I don't understand. >> In the end, both of them were hauled off to jail and hit with petty theft charges. The woman, she got slapped with an extra charge for resisting arrest. Nonviolent, but still a legal headache. Looking at their situation, you have to wonder what pushed them to steal in the first place. On February 8th, 2022, at a bar in Key West, Florida, police were called in over a theft complaint involving two women. A DJ at the bar reported that the women had taken money from his tip jar. When officers arrived, the two women were escorted outside for questioning. And here's what happened next. >> First of all, I'm drinking water. >> Okay. >> What did this [ __ ] say? >> I don't care about that. >> He's pissed off cuz I asked him what his mama called him. >> And then he said, he literally said I was annoying. >> Okay. He's actually pissed off because she took tip money out of a jar. with that. >> Hey, hey, don't talk. Hey, >> talk to me. >> Stop. >> I'm the one asking you questions. >> Search me for money. I have no money. >> I have a dog. >> So, like I was saying before, you rudely walk away from me. >> I didn't rudely walk away. I didn't know. >> I was talking to you. >> Okay. >> I was asking you questions. >> Oh, yes, sir. >> Not him. >> Okay, I understand. >> All right. >> So, like I was saying, he doesn't give a [ __ ] about what you said. Okay. >> What his complaint was is that you walked out with money from a tip >> and I I gave it back to him. >> He was I felt like he was offending me as as well. >> Okay. >> He said I was being annoying. I have no idea. >> So because you're offended that gives you a right to break the law. >> I didn't know that was a law. >> You started. >> Watch her, please. >> All right. >> Watch her. [Music] >> Okay. She's telling me she put the money back in the jar. >> No. And like I just told Randy, I said I had more money in the jar. I just found this on on when we were coming out. >> Okay. >> There was more money in I've been here since 8:00 in my tip jar. There's nothing else in the tip jar at all. >> Okay. >> This is the only I have left that I found on the ground. >> Okay. She's telling me that she she got offended or pissed off or whatever and then >> uh took the money out of the jar for a second then put it back. >> No, this was on the ground. >> Okay. And like I said, everyone everybody over there at Rock House saw her. That's why even the the the bouncer all them Yeah. >> saw her because I stayed at Rock House the whole time. Yeah. I would have stayed until I told Cory the owner. I was like, "Yo, >> do we have video? Do we have any video?" >> I don't know if they have video of it. I don't know. >> Okay. >> Will you ID both of them, please? I'm going to go check the video and see what the deal is. >> Can I give you both your ID? >> I don't have an ID. I have your ID. [Applause] Yeah, I found my phone. You need my ID? >> Yes. [Applause] >> I was I was with my husband. [Applause] >> Why are you taking that information out? >> Because right now you're getting a I'm getting a theft. Right now, you're not free to leave. You are detained. We are in the middle of an investigation of a theft. >> The DJ witness made it clear he wasn't sure about the exact amount missing, but he was certain that money was taken. When officers asked for ID, the main suspect didn't have any. And that's when her friend decided to start stirring the pot. >> I know you don't want to smile at all. >> I don't have a reason to smile. >> But, you know, this is ridiculous. I >> I don't have a reason to smile. >> Why are you mad at us? Because we're white and straight. >> I wasn't there. I don't know. >> I saw you guys prior to whatever incident took place. >> Did we look 15 minutes? >> Did we look like criminals? >> Never saw you guys. >> I don't have $5 >> on me. And I didn't take $5 out of that bar. >> We We'll be able to prove that. >> Where did he go? Call it mama. >> Where' the guy go that's accusing us? >> Doesn't matter. It >> does matter. >> It does. [Music] >> You're wasting your time. >> We treat every every call we respond to as if it was >> He literally called you. >> Did what? >> He literally called you. >> He didn't call me. No, >> he literally said we were annoying. That's why we had to leave. I'm going to file a complaint on that. >> Yeah, >> I'm going to file a complaint on that. >> You're more than welcome to. >> He said I was annoying and that hurts my feelings. There he goes. >> You can file as many complaints as you want. >> We don't file that. That's a civil complaint. >> So, you can take it to a trip advisor. You can uh whatever you want to do. >> He's [ __ ] bored. I'm not worried, but I didn't steal any money. [Music] >> What was the call for? >> You said I stole money. >> I'm not the investigative officer. >> I know, but what was the call for? >> Are you still annoying? >> It's a theft. >> Please stop. Stop it, please. >> It's not It's not going to get you anywhere. Okay. The best thing you can do. >> He's He's not my problem. >> Is he interacting Is he interacting with you right now? >> Yeah. >> No, he's not. He's standing there looking at you. You're the one yelling at him. >> I'm here to enjoy my birthday. >> He just yelled at her. >> Yeah, he did. >> Yeah. >> Stay to yourself. >> And he yelled at me, telling me I'm stay. >> He did just yell at her. >> Okay. >> Best thing you can do right now. Do not interact with him. more than welcome to, >> but we didn't steal anymore. >> The main suspect doubled down, insisting she didn't leave the bar with the money and therefore didn't commit a crime. Meanwhile, her partner in crime took a different approach, accusing the cops of discrimination and trying to make this whole thing personal. >> Okay. >> Will you record that? >> You just shot me a bird. >> Okay. It's called freedom of speech. falls into the freedom of my speech is picking up his $5 and then talking it down. >> I didn't leave the bar with his money >> again. That's what you're claiming. That's what you're stating. They're looking at the cameras now. If the cameras prove your point, then you'll be free to go. But until then, we are able to prove that point. You are detained. You're not free to leave. You got to stay here. Hang out with >> What other exciting stuff do you get >> the video now? He's looking at the video >> to see what >> to see if you guys stole money from his jar or not. >> We took the money and then I threw it back. >> Okay. >> You do understand it. Depriving somebody of money, whether it's for a minute, 20 seconds, 5 seconds, it's still theft in the state of Florida, right? >> No, we didn't leave the room with it. >> Well, ignorance of uh the law doesn't really an excuse. >> Well, that's not stealing. If you take it out of the bus and you drop it, >> I'm telling you by statute, word for word, you depriving anybody of anything that >> deprive him of money. We left it there. >> You took the money out of his tip jar. Therefore, depriving him whether it was for a second, 5 seconds, an hour a year. >> No, no, no. While you were talking to the victim, >> I'm ready to go. >> Okay. Well, you're detained. You can't go home. [Applause] Well, I really hope that y'all use your common sense on this situation. >> We are investigation. >> You guys know. >> Thank you. We're in the middle of something. Oh, sorry. Thank you. Thank you. [Applause] >> Nobody took anything. Nobody stole anything. Nobody took anything out of that building. >> Admitted to taking money out of the tip jar. She just admitted it >> and she put it right back in. >> Still at >> Well, I did it. >> Then we'll look at the video. >> At this point, the suspect started using a very creative legal defense, claiming that since she only took the money for 1 second, it wasn't theft. But under Florida law, the clock doesn't matter. Taking something that isn't yours, even for a second, is still theft. >> Lisa, put your hand behind your back. Put your hand back. >> Hang on. Hang up the phone. The phone turn around. >> No. >> Erica. >> Hold on. My lawyer's coming. I'll wait right here till my lawyer gets here. >> To the jail. >> Well, he's coming right here. I don't feel >> unless unless he gets here before we leave, we're not waiting for him. >> Okay. Well, y'all go. >> I have no car. >> Let's go. >> Hold on. I ran a marathon yesterday. My father are hurting. >> Oh, you you were walking just fine. Come on. >> All of a sudden, the handcuffs are on. You got walking. >> Go. Go. >> I'm going to put that in pocket so she will have it. >> Back up. >> Why? I can't give her back. I'm going to put you in handcuffs. Go. I'm telling you. Go with her. >> I'm going to her phone. >> Back up, man. I'm telling you now. Back up to the sidewalk. >> I did not. >> I'm going to put you in handcuffs. >> What are you going to arrest me for? disorderly >> resisting without violence because you're obstructing my investigation. >> I'm going to give her back. >> I'm going to tell you one more time. >> I'm going to tell you one more time. I told you. >> Oh my god. >> Give me your hand. >> I'm going to put my phone. >> Give me your hand. >> Give me your hand. >> Stop touching up, ma'am. >> Give me your hand. >> I'm going to put my phone in my bag. >> No, you're not. >> Give me your hand. >> Let go of the purse. >> My bag. You want a purse? >> Oh my god. Are you serious? >> Yes, I'm very serious. >> All right, there. >> Let go of the purse. >> Are you serious? >> I told you at least five times to back up to the sidewalk. >> Meanwhile, her friend had no clue she was making things so much worse for herself. She kept trying to block the officers and surprise surprise that got her arrested too. >> You're being arrested for theft because you took money out of a tip jar. >> You deprived the victim of their belongings. I don't care if you went back and put it back. That's irrelevant. Do you understand me? It's a very simple question. You know what? I don't even care if you don't understand. Separate your feet, please. Do you have anything illegal on your person? >> Do you have anything illegal on your person? >> No. I'm in here. >> Do you have anything on you that's going to poke me, stick me, cut me, blow me up, or give me radiation? >> Hey, mother. Here's your ID. The other one didn't have an ID. She gave me a name. If you want to give me I'll go grab it. I got it on my >> Yeah, we um to the police. >> They both uh the friend she got returned. She got a return call. >> Okay. >> Hang her phone up, please. Hang that up. Her watch. >> Yeah. >> Ma'am, >> what? >> Listen to me. >> I'm listening. >> Do you have anything illegal on your phone? >> I need a bathing suit. >> I don't care what you're wearing. That's not what I asked. I'm not aing swimsuit calendar. I'm a cop. >> All right. Well, I'm wearing a bathing suit. So, you have anything on your person that's going to poke me, stick me, cut me, blow me up, or give me radiation? No, I'm in a bathing suit. [Music] >> Check that side, please. >> Mark, go to the police station. >> Seat is clear. Have a seat. >> Spring Chuck, get in. [Music] >> This is the most ridiculous. >> Give me my pocketbook. >> No. >> Why? >> Because first off, like I said, you're not in charge. Well, where is my pocketbook going to go? >> To the jail with you. >> Hey, sir, where are you taking us? >> Where is that? >> Hang on one second. >> Hold on. Wait just a second cuz my attorney is on the corner. >> Do not say that [ __ ] Cops don't like attorneys. He's he said he's taking us to the jail. >> In the end, both women were taken to jail. The main suspect was hit with petty theft and disorderly conduct charges, while her friend got charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. On July 29th, 2023, police were called to a hotel restaurant after reports of a woman causing a disturbance and refusing to leave. When officers arrived, they repeatedly asked her to exit the premises, but she refused to cooperate. And here's what happened next. >> Are you refusing to leave? >> No. >> Okay, get your bag and leave. >> Show me where where your personal space is. >> You don't need to worry about you need to get your bag and leave. >> You're good. >> Look at those guys. And look at this guy. And I have no idea where my purse is. No. No. Not something. Not something. She's about to go to jail. >> No. Get yourself and go now. I understand. >> Are you refusing to leave? >> No. >> Okay, then leave now. >> I'm not leaving. >> You're not leaving? >> No. >> That's fine. >> Put your hands behind your back. [Music] >> Behind your back. >> I told you not. I cannot find my bag. My purse >> at my over there. >> Do what? Oh my god. Seriously? Yeah, seriously. >> Let you submission to you and you have on all the cameras beautiful place >> and you're feeling so good at and actually reprehending. >> No, cuz I don't want to arrest you. >> Oh, yeah. You didn't want to arrest her, but you did. >> Why? >> Cuz you were told multiple times to leave and you refused. And then you said, >> "No, I didn't say I didn't want to leave. I said I wanted to get my bag and you said you couldn't get my bag. Oh my gosh. You're really going to feel so good about this? >> No, I don't feel good about arresting. >> Yes, you do. Yes, you do. Because a woman who lives in Belair Beach in a really nice apartment house is being arrested by the guy who literally told her he couldn't. >> Oh, wait. Look at my eyes for a second. >> You literally >> At this point, officers had given her plenty of chances to walk away peacefully. But since she was dead set on staying put, they had no choice but to place her under arrest. And as they led her down the stairs, that's when the real theatrics began. >> Watch your step. >> You need to look down and watch your steps. >> What? >> Cuz you were walking down these stairs. >> He wants me to walk down the stairs. >> Yes, I do. >> Why? >> Come on. >> Oh my god. Will you stand up? >> Oh my god. Oh my god. >> Ma'am, stand up. >> Oh my god. Oh my god. [Music] >> Oh my god. idiot. >> Then walk. [Music] >> I want you to >> walk. What you want me to do? What are you guys walk me to do? [Music] You're not here on your knees begging for you to take your >> ma'am. Stand up. >> No. >> If you stand up, it won't hurt. >> I'm hurting. My hips are hurting. >> If you stood up, they would not hurt. >> So much. >> If you stood up, they would not hurt. >> I can't I can't move. You hurt me so much. Oh my god. [Music] >> Oh my god. [Music] [Music] >> Oh my god. You really can't do this. >> Seriously, your fist. [Music] She started pulling every trick in the book. Stalling, resisting, trying to make things so difficult that officers might just let her go. But what she didn't realize, she was only wasting her time and theirs. The only real question was how much worse was she willing to make this for herself. I needed you to help me and you refused. >> Why? Because you told me. Because you believed those guys. >> Stop. That's weird as [ __ ] bro. >> Funny how the kid only became a priority once they were in cuffs. A classic case of selfish criminals realizing too late that their actions have real consequences. From there, both were transported to jail for processing. Okay, Jana, step on out. We're going to walk right up there. >> Hoodie. >> Yeah, that >> Well, I'm taking off my hoodie for It's cold as >> I know. You can only have one. I've got a blanket right there. Okay. >> Despite their resistance, officers still allowed them to say goodbye to their child before DCFS took over. That's when reality hit. Oscar, now terrified of losing his child, suddenly switched gears. Cooperation mode activated. He wanted to fix things, but at this point, was it too late? >> Right now, Sergeant. >> Okay. I just Yeah, we're good. She I ain't claiming she is on the way. Okay. >> Y'all not going to get my child from no DCFS. >> I hear you. >> So why y'all like why y'all so into my conversation? I got to give him credit for that. >> Tell mama that Isaac is coming tomorrow. >> You're talking about >> baby. I'mma talk to you in a minute. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. Mama, >> tell her that Isaac coming tomorrow. >> She on the way. >> He's going to make a phone call. Oh, I'm sorry. Hold on. He's still on the phone. >> No. And then the other dude who is right there who got more strife than you. No offense. He's a good officer. I can tell. I can read vibes. I can read energy. I can read it. You a racist mother. I know. Fun fact. >> What you need? >> Say, "What am I being charged with?" >> You are being charged with child endangerment. She is being charged with child endangerment, criminal trespass, motor vehicle, and theft. >> It's a $100 bomb. Mommy, I'm gone. >> Yep. >> And my baby. >> Yep. Yeah, my under your charge. >> Oh, yeah. >> Grab that. >> Yep. We'll walk out and then uh now we're going to deal with DCFS is going to want to talk to you. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> One by one. >> In the end, both suspects were arrested but later released on bail once their charges were confirmed. Oscar charged with child endangerment. The woman, child endangerment, resisting arrest, and theft. Do you think they learned their lesson this time, or is it just a matter of time before they end up back in cuffs? So, what happens when cops find out they've stolen even more? March 16th, 2024. Police were dispatched to Walmart for a shoplifting incident involving a couple store security had caught them red-handed, attempting to steal hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise. And here's what happened when the cops showed up. Step out of the car for me, will you? Come on around here, my man. Come to the front of the car right here. Okay. Ma'am, you're over here with me. Don't reach back in the car. Come over here with me. >> Turn around your chains on your back. All right. >> You're detained right now. Okay. >> Give me these. Give me these. I'm going set these up here. >> Reason we're here, um, these guys work Walmart asset protection. >> Yeah. They said we taken some things. Yep. I was. >> Can I give it back? >> Concealing items. >> Can I give it back? >> Huh? >> Can I give it back? >> You didn't give it back? >> Yeah, I'll give it all. >> We'll have to >> take care of some things. >> Where are they? Where's Where's the closure at your purse? Right here. >> My right here. >> This one in the middle. >> This brown one. >> Okay. Okay. Come over here real quick. Just stand right here for a second. Okay. This one right here in the middle. Right. What else do you have? Drill. >> What? I've been chewing on it. Got a drill. What else? >> That's it. That's it. >> Yeah, it's in the pass. >> I apologize. I mean, I I'm been making a lot of bad decisions like throwing my mouth my life out and it's just >> saying in the passenger seat. >> Yeah. Miss my kid. Nothing. I life up and started going down the wrong path from here. >> Oh, no. From Columbus. For real. >> Yeah. >> Is this you? Yes. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> All right. >> You guys got the drill and the >> You got the drill. >> Those are hands. >> These are >> That's mine. Yeah. Everything else is mine. >> Uncustom, sir. >> Not yet. Okay. No, you're still >> That's mine. Everything else? >> Yeah, everything else is ours. >> I got my jacket right next to >> Yeah. We going You going to try to type a receipt up or something else? >> The male suspect was nervous from the start. A dead giveaway that he knew there was something in the car that could get them in serious trouble. His instinct to protect his girlfriend. That's not just love. It's a classic case of how emotions can cloud judgment, leading suspects to confess or try to hide evidence. >> You're just you're moving around too much for I don't like it. So, look, you're not you're just detained. I just want you to sit I just want you to sit down. Just relax. All right. >> I can't >> sit down right here. >> Making my anxiety go so much worse. Can you leave the door open? >> Let me pat you down real quick. I'll leave the door open, but don't >> I'm not doing >> I don't want you to walk around or do nothing like that. >> I got you. I just got anxiety. >> Yeah, I just did. I'm trying to I'm trying to work with you. It's just >> I get you're nervous and everything, but >> we're just going to walk back in the office here and drive him up here. >> Hey, you got to keep your woman happy no matter what's going on in life. Always make her feel good about herself. Today we're coming up here so that way my girl can see her uh her son and cuz she ain't been able to see him. Her aunt has had custody of him for a while and this is going to be the first time she gets to see him for like years. And I mean I do asphalt for a living. So, you know, and right now we're in between seasons, but I I got to get my head on straight and buckle down and live a good life. I mean the most peace I ever had in my life was living here with this woman. >> You know it was just peaceful and you know truly genuinely I felt good and was happy you know and all I did was I stopped smoking cigarettes and you know stopped hanging out with the bad people and you know started really living my life for God. And >> that's that's the big key man. You got to you got to leave. At first, they both played the remorse card, looking genuinely sorry for what they did. But things went from bad to worse when officers brought them back into the store. Since the suspect's truck was used during the crime, that gave cops probable cause to search it and what they found inside. Let's just say this was no longer about a simple shoplifting case. >> Tally up the totals. >> There's your total. >> What do you do with that? Um, anything from >> one penny to $999.99 as a misdemeanor one. Anything over $1,000 is a felony. >> Oh gosh. >> She had $146 worth. >> One thing we do, this is typically an arrest, okay? But we're not taking you to jail. So that summons is like your it's like an arrest. So we're going to do the same thing as we normally do as an arrest. Part of that is making sure you don't have anything you're not supposed to on you. Okay. Do does any of you guys have anything you're not supposed to? Any kind of drugs, needles, no >> paraphernalia, anything like that. Okay. >> Well, here's the thing. So, you used the van for a commission of a crime so I can search the van. That's why I'm asking. Is anything in there? >> I didn't know that. Not so you know it. >> All right. So, in case you didn't understand what was going on there, we found some paraphernalia, drug paraphernalia in the car. It's where you were sitting. So, I'm going to ask you guys again. Who's is it? >> And remember, you are, you know, remember you're still uh you still been advised your right, so you don't have to tell us, >> but this is your chance to to tell us if you want to. >> Okay. So, what is drug personnel? >> Yeah. In a black bag. >> It's a black bag. It's got a pipe in there and some other stuff. All right. Who's >> hanging a black bag off your seat? >> Off my seat? >> Yep. >> I don't know. >> No clue. This is hanging off the seat. Off a bag off your passenger seat. I I don't know. Usually on driving. >> Okay. Well, you was in the passenger seat and all your stuff's over there. >> Yeah. >> Is it yours? >> No. >> Yours? I guess it's yours. So, just like the meth pipe was in this bag leaning up against your seat right in the middle. That's yours. Officers discovered drugs inside the vehicle, shifting the case from shoplifting to a more serious drugrelated offense. Both suspects denied ownership. But under the law, if illegal items are within someone's control, they can still be charged. This is not our first day. We know what's going on. Okay? Like I said, you're still under oath. I mean, you're still Miranda still applies, right? You don't have to tell me nothing. You don't have to talk to me. You don't have to admit to me. You don't have to say anything. I'm just giving you an opportunity to do that now when you're not sitting next to each other. >> I mean, we're both I'm going to get charged with it anyway. >> Who Who's it? >> It's It's You're You're being charged with it because nobody's admitting to it and it's in your possession. It's in your general possession of that car. >> I'm going to get charged with it anyways. >> Who's it? >> Huh? >> Because it doesn't matter. I'm going to get charged with it anyways. Not necessarily. It's not if it's his. So, I was talking to her and for one, for one thing, you got a solid girl in there, man. She ain't giving you up. >> It's not mine. >> And look, she wants me. >> This is still This is still You're still Miranda still applies. You don't have to tell me nothing. Okay, >> you don't you're you're in handcuffs. You're under arrest. You don't have to tell me anything. I just want to throw that out there right now. I'm just asking one last time. >> Whose gun is that? >> It's not mine. She's on a disability. She's on elevation. >> It's not my Who's it? >> It's somebody that's >> You're looking You're looking around. You're not looking into my eye, man. You're lying. You're lying to me. Look in my eye and tell me. >> Go away from that door. She can't hear us. >> She can't hear the sound. >> I can hear out there. >> Can you hear what I was saying? >> Yes. I hear everything you guys are saying, but I was talking to him. So that's the only way I can hear. >> All right. What up here? Come on. Come on a sec. Look, >> so she was talking to she used to talk to this guy named Mantra. Okay. And her and him broke up and she stole his gun. That's where the gun came from. I promise. On my daughter's life. So >> it's her gun. Yes. >> So she Okay. >> Okay. In the bag hers. I'm not gonna I can't I don't want to tell you guys that though because that is my girlfriend and I do love her with all my heart. But I >> I'm just going to be straight with this. She's going to get charged with it anyway. Whether you guys didn't tell me whether you didn't tell me that or anything, she's going to get charged with it cuz it's in her possession in the car. >> But either way, if I mean, what is she? I'm not going to lie and say it's mine when she stole it from some dude that she was talking to. >> All right, that's all we want to know. And I know I get it. I worked. >> Don't tell her that I told you. >> I worked No, I'm not going to say anything. I worked in jails and prisons. I know. I know about the snitch thing. I get that. >> Yeah. I'm not Don't I do not want her to I'm telling >> I get all that. So, I'm not going to I'm We just We're trying to We want to make sure we charge the right person. >> She does know a lot of dope boys and she could get hurt real bad. Like, and I ain't trying to, >> you know, get over she stole somebody's gun and I told you guys that [ __ ] was hers. >> All right. We're going to play it off like she's in she's in construction possession of it cuz nobody's admitting to it. That's how we're going to play it off. >> I didn't tell you guys nothing. I got you. >> Once separated, the boyfriend cracked. He admitted the gun in the car belonged to his girlfriend, but begged officers not to tell her he was the one who snitched. He wanted to protect her. Yet at the same time, he knew that if she took the fall, he might walk away clean. Loyalty or survival, he made his choice. He >> things going on, man. And you're just going for theft. That's it. And so I could like if I got to do it, >> probably go to court. Saturday what I was saying if nobody if nobody admits to being in possession of something or if it's theirs it's goes the person that gets charged is in the it's in the immediate possession right so it's in the passenger side that's where you're getting charged with it I was just I just wanted you to know that you know that's that's the reason for that if nobody admits to it being theirs you know he's saying an aunt put it in there you're saying you don't know anything about But so, you know, but we we know that's bullit. I mean, I'm just going to come out and say that, you know, and I get it. Like, we talked about out there. I, you know, I I've been down this road. I'm not going to sit here and play games with you. Somebody's getting charged with it and it's going to be who's in the immediate possession of it and it's and it's you cuz it's passenger side. Okay. >> So, we're we typically like to if we can, we like to transport separate. We like to transport together. >> Uh there's a couple reasons behind that, but you know, safety plays a big part into it. transport us like where we go >> to the jail >> here. >> We staying here with him. >> Um >> Don, you done? >> I'm done. >> All right. Yeah, you can. >> I'll hang on to these. >> So, if you have anything to touch your stuff, whenever you go into the jail, they find it in there, it's going to be a conveyance. Okay. >> By the end of it, both were hauled off to jail. The boyfriend charged with shoplifting. The girlfriend hit with unauthorized firearm possession, theft, and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use. Was his betrayal really an act of protection, or did he sell her out to save himself? September 18th, 2023. Store employees called the police after catching two women stealing lingerie and other items. One of them tried to ditch the stolen goods under a car when she spotted the chief officer pulling up, but that plan failed miserably. Both suspects were taken inside the store. And here's what happened next. >> Okay, >> I'll pick it up. >> Let's all walk back inside. How about that? You walk back inside. [Music] >> Is there enough? Sir. >> Sir, >> is there an LP right now? >> Hey, do you have the video up? >> Unfortunately, I don't. >> But we have witnesses more than >> Yeah, cuz I was going to say, can I just look at it real quick? >> Cuz what happened? >> The two things are down. >> Okay. But did did it actually record >> it >> or >> that's going to be hard to say because but we have enough visual witnesses. Okay. >> I'm one of them and what happened is >> one of them took that dealer's bag. Okay. >> Seeing what one of the managers cuz we're like all of us are on it >> and the one I saw the one with the red pigtails. I don't even know what you call those from the sides. She came in and she went right into this room. >> Mhm. >> And when she came out, she had nothing. I had the security girl go and check. Just two empty hangers. >> Gotcha. All right. >> And then they also had empty hangers and lingerie and our manager showed like when they were walking out had the empty hangers and they were bold enough to just leave. >> Okay. All right. >> All right. >> Thank you. >> Thank you. All right. You okay? >> Yeah. >> Who's that? >> It's my friend cuz I have a car. So, I was just >> All right. Hang up the phone for me. >> Go ahead and read something to both of you. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the photo. >> Even though no security footage directly showed them shoplifting, employee statements were key. According to staff, the women had brought items into the fitting room but walked out leaving only the security hangers behind. We're right here. >> You have test kits for it? >> I don't think I do. >> What? I have some. Which purse was that in? >> This one right here. Sarah, can you come out here with us? >> You remember the rights that I agree with you? >> Yeah. You said yes. Then you still saying yes now. Do you want to talk to us? You want me to read it again? >> No. >> That's awesome. We'll just walk right through. Walk me through what was going on today here. Why we're here. I came here because um I just did this for to be honest. I don't even know. It's >> my friend's daughter's birthday and >> I owe him like $500 and he told me I could just go to the store for him and grab some stuff for him. So that's what I did. >> Did she help you with all >> She wasn't looking. >> Okay. But >> I mean we like >> Did she know that this is this is what you came here to do? >> Yeah. >> Did she help you at all select any of the items or anything like that? She what she what was her involvement in all this? >> She was grabbing stuff I guess for herself. >> For herself? >> Yeah. >> So you both came here you came here because obviously you >> you want to get something for your friend and >> Well, and you owe him some money. I get it. I understand. I understand that part, but it >> happens. >> So, you just kind of took it, shoved it in your purse. >> When officers searched their bags, they found a total of $220 worth of stolen merchandise. But that wasn't the worst part. Drugs were also discovered. On top of that, statements confirmed that this wasn't some spur-of-the- moment crime. These two came in with a plan. on Wednesday. >> I don't know wants me to call. >> What happens tough times? >> I didn't get >> with who? >> With my husband. >> Your husband? >> All right, boy. Tell me call him back cuz we need to talk to you about some stuff right now. said, "Do you want to run?" >> Go ahead. >> So, you remember the rights that I read you? You said yes. You understood them. Are you willing to talk to us right now? >> Okay. So, what what brought you here today? >> We're going shopping. >> Okay. So, you're coming here shopping. Pick out some stuff. >> What did you pick out? >> I picked out just this sports bra and some underwear. Okay. So, did you intend to pay for them? >> I did. >> Okay. So, but you walked out of the door. >> So, we appreciate you being honest about that. All right. Show show some type of character. You know what I mean? >> Not trying to deceive us or anything. I mean, regardless if you were trying to deceive, now we caught red-handed store. Okay. But now we got to address the other issue. All right. What was found in your purse? >> How do you We're in a friend's house and I didn't have a purse. I didn't bring any of my belongings with me. So, I was like, "Can I just borrow a purse to put stuff in it?" So, I just grabbed that purse. I didn't know anything was in there. And if it was, I have no idea. I'm not a drug. I don't As far as I have. It's not. >> So, you're saying this purse is not yours? >> No. >> What you're telling us? Whose is it? >> Whoseever I was at the friend's house with. >> When did you when did you grab the purse? >> Before we left here. >> So, today. >> Yeah. Cuz I don't have a purse. I have no pass with me. >> Under the law, if someone possesses a bag that contains illegal substances, they can be charged for possession, even if they claim they didn't know what was inside. And in this case, officers didn't need to prove intent to use, only that the suspect had control over the bag at the time. >> Honesty goes a long way with us. You know what I mean? >> It's kind of hard to believe that you're saying that this purse is not yours when there's rolling papers and there's all kinds of stuff in here. You smoke weed. What I get, >> no, honestly, >> I know when I grab I don't grab other people's stuff without looking at it. Make sure ain't nothing in there that ain't supposed to. First of all, >> I just don't grab random stuff. That's the first thing. >> Look, you're being cooperative with us and we appreciate that. But at the end of the day, you understand >> you're the one walking with the purse. We're the one holding the purse when we see you. It's hard for us to differentiate that from being somebody else's purse, right? So, um, all right. This is what's going to happen. All right. Unfortunately, you you are under arrest. Okay. That's what I do every time. >> You're being charged with shoplifting. All right. And then you're also going to be charged with possession of control substance and drug paraphernalia. All right. Charges. Excuse me. All right. Now, I normally don't do this and I'm probably going to kick myself in the ass for doing this, but I will let you call your husband back. All right? And it's going to be a quick call just to tell him what's going on and where you'll be. All right? You will get a bond. you'll be able to bond out. >> All right. >> You could you understand what he's saying with that? >> It means that you you could be home by tonight, right? >> Yeah. So, you would bond. Are you also living for St. Lucy? >> So, your bond might be a little higher because you're out of county, but still feasible. Okay. Just get a mail bondsman and stuff like that. They have a list at the jail. Uh unfortunately, possession possession. It's in your It's in your control. That's why you got to be careful of whose stuff you pick up around here. You know, just don't pick up random people's purses and >> stuff like that. All right. >> Or if you do, at least at least check it. >> Just watch your >> police followed procedure by clearly stating the charges and rights of both suspects. What started as a shoplifting case quickly escalated with drug possession bringing far more serious legal consequences. Are you doing the itemize from the girls? >> Did you actually witness them take anything? >> Um, the assistant store manager witnessed them stealing the Dillard's bag from here. >> Okay. >> And went over to the men's suit fitting room and put it in her handbag. >> Okay. >> And then everything else was taken upstairs and they went in the fitting room. >> I witnessed them and followed them out of the door to their car. >> Okay. >> And she saw the sheriff car coming, said, "Oh, [ __ ] I'm not going to jail." and through the bag and everything underneath the next card. >> Thank you. >> I have um that is mine and then our camera operators as well. >> Okay, perfect. >> And here's the two copies of the receipts. I have ours for me. I wouldn't lose it. >> This is all in one bag or this is a separate bag. >> Uh these are separate and these are separate. >> So, >> two separate bags. It comes to like $220. >> Which one was in which bag? This is for the This is for the girl with the red hair. >> So, this looks like which bag? Louis bag or the Coach bag? >> I'm not sure which. >> I don't know. I didn't see what they were wearing. >> I think this was the Coach bag. I'd have to double [ __ ] >> Thank you. I appreciate There's a way to fit my daughter. Stand up. Turn around. Put your back. >> It is what it is. [ __ ] Literally >> got the hole. There you go. Your arms fit right in that hole, too. >> That is a little more comfortable. >> In the end, both women were taken to jail and charged with petty theft. But for the brunette suspect, things got worse. She was also charged with possession of a controlled substance. Shoplifting could lead to fines, probation, community service, or a diversion program. Drug possession. If the substance was serious enough, jail time was on the table. On February 20th, 2023, police received a call from a YMCA branch in Wasau, Wisconsin, reporting an active car theft. The victim explained that he had left his wallet and car keys inside his unlocked car when he arrived at the YMCA. But when he came out, his car was gone. He tried chasing after it to figure out where it was heading. Not long after, an officer spotted the stolen car at an intersection. The driver was later identified as 24-year-old Kirsten. Here's what really went down. >> Where did it turn? Turned right up to the stop sign. >> Yep. I was anticipating, which is why I was running dead straight. I was anticipating them to make a left cuz I was I was going to head the door off. >> Okay. >> But when they made the right, that's when I lost a whole lot of ground cuz when I got to the corner, they were at that stop sign. Y so much nicer than the police in Georgia. The cops in Georgia will say, "What the [ __ ] you want me to do?" >> Wow. I swear. I swear. >> Leaving the car unlocked with valuables in plain sight turned out to be an open invitation for trouble. Sometimes habits like these make it way too easy for crime to happen. Third took over. Still rolling westbound on Scott. Just ran a red light at fifth in Scott. >> 32. Speeds are 30. Roads are slick. No traffic. >> 32. We're still going westbound. 1 199. Roads are still slick. >> When Kirsten realized she'd been spotted, she made a run for it. Instead of owning up to what she did, she chose a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the cops. But her reckless driving and bad weather got the best of her. She lost control, slid into a ditch, and was quickly surrounded. I'm northbound on Berick. Advised we go east on camp. 212, we're east. 212 east on Randolph. >> 074 212. You need more updates. Updates with location. >> North vehicle. Speeds are 40. The vehicle is going to be disabled. They've got nowhere to go. And whatever unit was in contact with Christ, what was she wearing? Show me your hands. >> Her refusal to cooperate made things even worse. The cops had no choice but to step up their tactics while waiting for backup. They worked out strategies to safely approach the vehicle without escalating the situation. >> You get hurt. Please come out. >> Once we get a shield up here, we'll get going. >> Do like what a fourman team from the right side and then we go two in the front. >> Kristen, please exit the vehicle. >> When when shield gets here, Kong, I'll probably have you stay right up front here. >> I can move. I can move front. Ready? >> Yeah. Well, we I've got state with the rifle in front of my squad. So, um just hold here for now. Once we get going, we'll do >> Kristen, please exit the vehicle. >> Number one has shield. Number two has either window punch or haligant if we need it. >> Do we really not have another one? >> Kristen, come out, please. Kristen, come out of the car, please. We'll talk about this. You remember she just did this on a members month ago. >> Why is she on a deal? >> I don't know. We'll just hold till family gets here. Um >> I'll take shield. >> I'll uh I'll be hands then. >> We'll we'll have State and Kong stay with long guns up front. >> Yeah. I'll grab I'll go behind you with my gun and then sir. >> Only one person in the car that we're aware of. >> Correct. >> In the front seat. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. She's just hanging out in the front seat. They had almost the exact same thing happen with her in Everest a couple months ago. >> So, um, Slunk is going to come over, pulled up front in the state. Larson, you ready to go? >> I'm coming behind you, John. >> Yep. >> Yep. She's in the front. Um, >> put in front of my car probably just to stay straight up front just to state if you can just avoid crossfire here. All right, Larson. Kristen, come out of the vehicle. Please, >> Kristen. Out of the vehicle now. >> Please. >> Eventually, they subdued Kirsten. She stayed silent and showed no visible injuries. Officers checked her over and brought her back to the station. >> I got the back. Larson, check the back. >> I got it. >> No, just grab >> out of the car, please. >> Get out of the car, please. >> Please. >> One time. Please get her out of the car. Come on. Hands behind your back. >> Get her out all the way out. Hands behind your back. Kristen, are you hurt at all? >> Just wait. Just wait for that. I think you hurt at all, Kristen. You hurt at all. >> She's nonverbal. No visible injuries at this time. Kristen, we're going to walk up to the road. Okay, I got her. >> Yeah. All right, Chris, stand right here for me. Do you have anything on? You going to poke pricks at me? >> I always have to walk through the [ __ ] street. I can't let go of one. I'm done. >> Just relax for me. Chris, you got anything on you at all? Done for somebody. We'll uh we'll go I'm go in this car if somebody door [Applause] All right, Kristen, we're going to have a seat in here. Okay. >> Careful getting in. >> Uh, did somebody grab a shield up off the car? >> Once her identity was confirmed, it turned out Kirsten wasn't new to this game. She had three open criminal cases, including two for stealing cars. >> I'm going to put you in jail because you stole a car and fled from us. Okay. Well, that doesn't excuse your actions. >> All right, Chris is coming home for me. >> I'm so sorry. I'm trying to come in with the North Central Healthcare Center. >> What's that? >> I'm not coming with the healthcare center. >> Okay. Well, we're at jail right now. They're coming out for me. I can have them come talk to you later. >> Call my case manager here. >> Pearson, come out of the car. You need to say my name right now. I really got to go. >> Come out of the car for me. Otherwise, I'll call jail staff down and come get you. It's your choice. Step out of the car for me. Here. Come on. >> Get up. Up out the car. >> In the end, the car's owner decided to come pick it up himself to avoid paying towing fees. Meanwhile, Kirsten racked up a hefty list of charges: felony vehicle theft, fleeing police, six counts of violating bail conditions, and resisting arrest. Her bail was set at $7,500. On May 1st, 2024 in Florida, police got a report about a stolen vehicle from an elderly man, Wendy's father. He and a witness used an Apple Air Tag attached to the truck to track it down to a Walmart parking lot. An officer quickly responded and found a woman, Wendy, lingering near the vehicle. Here's how it all unfolded. >> Vehicles reported stolen. It's >> not stolen. >> Then get on the ground and we'll figure this out. >> I'm not getting on the ground. >> All right. Don't go inside the vehicle then. >> The vehicle is supposedly stolen. Let me grab my insurance with my name on it. >> Okay. >> Come here, please. >> Yeah. Let me just >> Don't you want to see that it's okay? I don't know who you are right now. Okay. >> I can show you right now. Just like a pullover instead of being silent. >> It's not a stolen vehicle. What's going on? >> It's my dad's truck. I'm on the insurance. I drive it all the time. Like, it's fine. Oh my god. What the hell? He has been a little bit older and psycho lately. >> Ma'am, let me put you in handcuffs right now. >> No. What the [ __ ] Don't you want to see my ID? You don't even know who I am, sir. >> I'm putting you in handcuffs right now. >> You don't need You don't even see my ID. >> Please, I got one female detain. >> Wrong person in handcuffs, sir. Can I please get my ID and show you my insurance and registration? >> Give me a second. We'll figure it out. Okay. It's not stolen, [ __ ] My dad is getting older and he's being a dick and I have like proof that I'm able to drive any of his vehicles when my and like mine's in the shop right now and this is the backup and I'm on the insurance and it's fine. Okay. >> Okay. >> It's not a stolen vehicle. Jesus Christ, Dad. ID registration. Like, you're going to want that. Okay. >> Yes. Where is that? >> In the truck. I'm going to get it for you. Oh my god. I don't need 10 cops to show you my registration. >> We'll figure out what's going on, but for right now. >> Okay. Oh my god. >> All right, we'll figure it out. But for right now, you just got to cooperate. Okay. >> House. That's where I live with him. >> Okay, we'll figure it out. >> Yeah, you just got to give me a sec. A >> little rough. >> The decision to stop Wendy from getting back into the truck was the right call for safety reasons. A vehicle could easily hide a weapon or turn into a getaway ride, especially with Wendy acting uncooperative and restless. She seemed visibly flustered, stumbling over her words and offering explanations that danced around the point. Classic signs of someone trying to cover something up or just flat out panicking. >> I haven't seen her yet. So, keep going. >> Keep going. You're gonna get You don't even know who I am right now. I have the feeling you're doing this wrong. >> Can you be the only additional unit? >> Seriously, don't you want to see my sh motherucker? You guys are violent. >> No, you're hurting me. >> Enough. We'll figure it out. >> I've got a [ __ ] up spine and like I'm like on disability and [ __ ] You're hurting me. >> Relax, ma'am. We'll figure it out >> because I'm about to take my dad's truck home which I'm allowed to drive and I'm on >> Okay. And I will verify that. But enough >> my name's Wendy. I'm on that day insurance. I'm allowed to drive the car. >> Obviously I had to come for groceries. Jesus Christ. He's been losing his memory and [ __ ] So I don't know. >> Okay. And we'll figure it out, but you got to cooperate with us. >> I am. This is just like a lot. Want to see me and like my ID and [ __ ] so we can get >> Yeah. I'm trying to get your name right now and figure out what's going on. Don't you want to see the the card? >> Okay. Have stay over here for me, ma'am. Stay right here for me. >> I'm right here. >> Okay. What's your first name? >> I'm not drunk and I'm not oning drugs. Jesus Christ. >> What is your first name? >> I'm sorry. My father has really been at my neck lately. My first name is Wendy with an I at the end. >> W E N D I >> Yes. Same last name. >> What's your middle name in this show? >> I'm on the insurance to all of his trucks. >> What's your date of birth? >> Five. Or not his truck. three of these vehicles. >> Wendy leaned on a family excuse to justify why she had the truck, claiming she had every right to drive it. But legally speaking, her father's testimony being the rightful owner was the deal breaker. Once everything was sorted out, Wendy was detained. >> If you can just search her, >> figure out what's going on. >> I just don't understand how that could like so hard, please. Seriously, I have nerve damage. Stop it. Let's not do that. >> No, no, it's her. Her. It's not you, sir. I hope you're being touched. I'm not being >> Don't touch me in those areas. You don't need to entertain. >> I don't know if >> I was driving the truck home where I live with my dad. >> Can we make 1025 with Sumpter County and the victim? She's alleging she's the daughter, but I'm not sure. >> How the [ __ ] I know. >> Yeah, it's 104 except she's not cooperative right now. >> Another officer arrives with new information about the victim who actually owns the stolen car. >> Okay, so he's here. >> Yeah, he's >> 29 Leburg 22 my last. Apparently the victim's here. So, did he call this in or >> I think it was his friend the other person in the car. >> Okay. Hey, is he prosecuting or what's Yeah. Yeah. 104 and prosecution by the victim. Dad, help. Help. No, it [ __ ] hurts. >> Jesus Christ, people. I am injured. >> Ma'am, I just had a clavicle x-ray. It's broken. >> Then quit resisting and just >> relax. >> Leave me alone. Ow. You know, you have to be more careful. Seriously, you're hurting me for no reason. >> This is 17's car, right? >> There we go. >> I'm hurt. Stop, >> ma'am. I think >> Oh my god, you guys are [ __ ] dude. >> During a search of the truck, police found a handgun tucked inside her purse. This only deepened their suspicion that Wendy might be involved in other illegal activities. She I was literally rounding the corner here. I hear the call come out. She comes out here. She's fixing her hair outside of the vehicle and I'm over here confirming the 28. She's literally about to go back inside the vehicle. So I'm like, I'm not going to get her to go inside the vehicle and take a 108. So I literally went went up to her with taser point and I was like, get on the ground. and all that kind of [ __ ] in >> the right time in the right place. Huh. >> Yeah. >> 17 said he's going to uh take primary on this. He's talking to the victim and a witness and the victim's going to take his truck back afterwards. Sweet. >> Uh this I wonder if she took the suitcase from there cuz it's all filled with groceries. Walmart's closed now. So >> definitely looks she was giving me some BS excuse and wanted to get back in the car. I'm like no way. So I grabbed her, closed the door, and then just attained her in handcuffs. >> There's nothing in here. It's >> Yeah. Well, victim's there, so he can verify what's his and what isn't his and whatever else. >> It's a bunch of like There's nothing like illegal, per se. Just like >> She's got quite a few of brand new cell phones in the back. >> Everything's bagged as far as the bags go. So I can see if they weren't bagged if she was putting them in the store like that, but she's got bags and everything. >> She had a crap on anything. >> No, I appreciate it. I appreciate the assist. Thank you. We just happened to be around the corner when further park called out. >> I was literally just hanging out just driving through and I heard over the radio and I see her just fixing her hair there with the door open about to hop back into it. So I literally parked up there and just snuck up behind her taser point and she wanted to get back in and I was like, "Oh no." So just yanked her and put her in cuffs. >> Surprised if you don't find 31 on that one. >> I got a feeling she has 31 in her bra or something. But she uh even my female officer was like, "She's not letting me uh >> you know, and yeah, we're not going to do it here, so >> he'll get it." >> Mhm. >> All right. Well, we just happened to be around the corner. >> I appreciate it. Thank you, sir. >> So, were y'all sitting on it just waiting for her to come back out? >> No, I was just rolling through the parking lot. >> Just running tags. >> Literally just rolling through. >> I just run the tag or what? >> No, no, no. I I did run the tag. Yes. Yes. Yes. We got a call from the complainant who's the victim who was in the parking lot over there >> sitting next to it. >> No, he was like, "Hey, apparently it's the daughter, I guess, that sold the car and they found it here." So, they called us and my dispatch just put out over the air and I'm like, "I'm in the parking lot now. Like, where the hell is this thing?" And I see it here. So, I ran the tag real quick and I thought she was going to get back in. She was initially in the car. As I ran to this, she came out. She's like fixing her hair doing something. So, I don't obviously she must have saw me or whatever. And then as soon as I got the alert that it was signal 10 cuz I ran it as I was running it to dispatch um I literally just jumped out of my car went taser point on her cuz he was trying to get back into the car. I didn't want her to take off and she's all blah blah blah blah. So I just would >> guns on her say guns or guns on her >> guns. She might have something else. >> She's do what? >> Hi. What? This is just a little much, I think. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> Later, her dad came to pick up the truck, bringing this chaotic scene to a close. Wendy, however, wasn't so lucky. She ended up being taken to jail and charged with vehicle theft, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and resisting arrest without violence. If convicted, she could face jail time, fines, or even be forced to pay restitution. On April 23rd, 2023 in New Mexico during a routine patrol in Roswell, a police officer pulled over a white Chevrolet carrying two suspects. According to a Walmart employee, these two women had been swapping barcodes on merchandise to pay a lower price. The stop happened after Walmart reported the theft. And here's what went down. >> Hello, I'm off police department. The reason I'm stopping here is do you guys have a little incident at Walmart right now at all? >> No. >> You guys weren't coming from Walmart? Okay. >> Okay. Do you have your driver's license? The reason I'm here is cuz they had a shop looking okay. They described a white hatchback Chevy car. Kind of what you have. >> Oh, okay. Well, still >> Okay. Were you up there at all? >> Uh, no. >> Okay. 33. Good one. Can you have an ID on you, ma'am? >> Yeah, please do. >> Do you have one, too? >> Uh, no. No. >> You don't have one? >> No. No. >> Okay. >> We don't have nothing. >> Okay. So, you weren't at Walmart at all? >> No, we were. We didn't steal nothing. >> Okay. Well, just cuz you didn't steal anything doesn't mean that's not a problem. >> The officer kicked things off with open-ended, neutral questions, trying to keep everyone calm and gather info without making them feel cornered. Getting more details from Walmart was a crucial step in building a solid case. At first, the suspects denied everything, then slowly started to come clean, likely worried about how much the cops already knew. >> Hello. >> What's up, man? >> Hey, Damian Officer. How you doing? I got the car. I got the girls. Okay. Was it the girl in the light the the light blue like dress? >> Yeah, it was. Yeah. Stair came on. a light blue dress and white came out wearing a denim shorts and a black jacket >> with a red top. >> Yeah. >> Did they have a third friend with them that's kind of on the larger side? >> No. They're the only two that we saw in the store. They're the only two we saw get in the vehicle. >> Okay. And they they were swapping barcodes and whatnot. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Um I'll be up there shortly. Okay. I'm going to detain these guys right here and I'm going to take them up there. I'm going to look at that um the footage. Okay. And then we'll move forward from there. All right. If you can just get all that prepared for me. >> Right on. >> And then uh we'll address it. All right. >> Yep. >> Sounds good. Thank you. >> Awesome. Bye. >> Take care. >> Let me get this driver out. Can you step by the car for me, ma'am? >> For what? >> Cuz I'm telling you to step back here for me. >> Letting the suspects know there was surveillance footage ramped up the pressure, pushing them toward a confession. >> Okay. >> Can you put your phone in the car? >> Yeah. >> Put your hands right back from your foot. Am I getting arrested? >> At this point in time, you're just detained. Okay, relax. Relax. Thank you. >> Hang on. Okay. You want me to roll the window down, please? Let's go to the front of the car for me. Okay. Go ahead and face the car for me. So, I'm going to be straight up with you. You got a warrant. Okay. >> Let me see your Let me see your hands. Put your hands behind your back for me. So you got born. Okay. Also, we're going to dress this uh Walmart or something. Okay. Get in there for me. Watch your head. There you go. All right. Hang tight. All right. Ameilia, how old are you? >> 19. >> 19. Have you ever been in trouble before? >> No. >> No. Okay. So, this is what's going on. Okay. There's an incident that happened at Walmart. Okay. We're going to talk about it. Okay. >> Am I going to go to jail? >> Let me explain. Okay. With that being said, okay, the car, the >> main suspect, the driver, finally admitted to the barcode swapping when faced with the video evidence, but the second suspect kept trying to play it off as legitimate shopping. Their conflicting stories only strengthened the credibility of the surveillance footage >> car cuz I got to take you to Walmart. I got to look at this footage to ensure that it's you and what happened. Okay. Are you okay with her parking the car right here at one of the parking stalls and waiting until we figure out entirely what's going on? Yeah, just take it to my desk. >> Park it there for right now. We'll I'll swing back through and let you know what all happens. Okay, so here's what's going on. Okay, I'm going to read you something. Okay, it's for me to talk to you. I got to read you this. Okay, you have the right to remain silent. >> Having read those rights, do you understand your rights? I understand your rights. Are you willing to talk to me? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, clearly you're at Walmart, right? >> Yeah. >> You guys went in there. It was just you and >> Can I pay for all the stuff that >> Listen, it was you and Tammy, right? >> That went in there cuz she stayed in the car, right? Well, yeah. We all went in there and she went >> Oh, she just didn't walk with you guys. >> No. >> Huh? >> No. >> Okay. So, you and Tammy kind of walked together within the store? >> Yeah. >> Y'all were switching barcodes on things? >> Yes. >> Okay. But I I don't even know the items. What were the items that you guys were switching? >> Clothes. >> Clothes. Trying to just swap the the clothes out for cheap items. >> Yeah. >> Were you guys going to pay for the items at the cheaper rate? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> But can I pay for all the stuff? >> Let me let me So, here's what's going to happen. Okay. I do have to take you to Walmart. I have to see the footage to confirm that it is you. Okay, right now I I believe it to be you. Okay, we've talked. I mean, clearly you were there. I'm going to look at the footage. Okay, I'm going to talk to Walmart. They do want to press charges. Okay, but if they want to work out some kind of different deal or something like that, then that's that's going to be their behalf. Okay, if they they're like, I want to press charges, then we're going to have to address that. How we have to address that, okay? >> Huh? >> Either be jail or a citation. Okay, so I'm going to have to talk with Tammy. Okay, >> I can pay for all this stuff. >> Okay, just hang on. Okay. Hey, how old are you? >> Um, 18. >> 18. Okay. I just wanted to make sure. >> Um, sit back for me and then look that way. Can I ask? >> So, for sure you have one warrant. You might also have another one. So, you might have two warrants. Okay. But for sure, you have one warrant. One's for failure to pay fines and then the other one we don't know yet. Uh, as far as I'm concerned, that's the only warrant I have was wrong cuz, uh, I had talked to the judge and he said I had a 90-day thing. I paid the mark and then they called me early April saying that I didn't pay and I told him that I did and then she told me that I would just have to talk to the judge. That's what I was waiting on and >> Yeah. So, you're that one is to pay fines and then my dispatch is confirming right now to see if you have a second one at a state police. Okay. So, just hang tight. Walmart. >> Okay. So, here's what happened. Okay. I'm going to read you something. Okay. So, it's for me to be able to talk to you about the stuff that happened at Walmart. Okay. You have the right to remain silent. >> Do you understand your rights? >> Yes. >> Understand your rights. You willing to speak to me? >> Uh, yeah. >> Okay. Clearly, you guys are at Walmart. You and Amelia were in the store together walking around. Okay. Were you guys switching barcodes on clothes and stuff? >> Um, no. >> No. Okay. So, if I go look at the video footage, it's not going to show that. >> Okay. So, what were you guys doing in the store then? Um, well, I have a baby shower to be at right now, so we're just going to look like more diapers and >> other stuff that I could possibly gift to. >> Okay. And um, what happened with Walmart where they pretty much stopped you guys from taking whatever you guys have? >> Um, they didn't take anything. We were, uh, going to scan and I guess I don't know what happened. Something about pants. So, the lady had said that we had only uh, t-shirt scan that we didn't scan the pants. So, she was like, "All right, well, what about pants?" And then she was like, "Well, this you don't have the right barcode on it." And she was like, "And I asked I was like, "Okay, well, is there like another pair? Like, can we go get another pair?" Swap it out. You know, we get another tag. >> And she was like, "Uh, she radioed someone." Uh, and then we were just like, "It's okay. Never mind. We're just going to go." >> Okay. So, they Okay, so here's what's going to happen. Okay. We're going to take you guys to Walmart. Okay. I got to look at this footage and confirm one that it's both YouTube. Okay. and whether or not you you shoplifted or not. Okay? So, if there's no bar switching or anything like that or where what you're doing is reasonable in nature in terms of trying to scan the stuff, then we'll address that. Okay? However, if the video does show that you know you're trying to switch tags, you're clearly not trying to pay for items. Okay? We're going to have to address that. Okay. All right. Hang on. Okay. >> Walmart decided not to accept any late payment or settlement for the items, which is their right. Retailers often do this to deter future shoplifterss. Hello. Hey, I got both of them. So >> cool. >> So she noticed this label switched with this. The diapers are okay. She says she was just trying to go get stuff for baby shower. That's literally what she was talking about. >> Ameilia, I watched the video. I saw the entire thing. Right. You scan You scan two items and then you just start reaching across and putting them in the bags. Okay. There you weren't attempting to scan them. It's not what it looks like at all. Okay. Home girl has makeup and all kinds of stuff in the cart. Okay. You give her a bag. She starts putting in that bag. ever even left the cart to be attempted to scan. Okay. Who put the the the different barcodes on the diapers? >> I'm not sure. >> Okay. You're not sure? >> Yeah. It might have I don't know. We're just grabbing things. >> You're just grabbing things. Okay. >> Yeah. Those diapers are for um >> So, let for a baby shower. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, let me ask you this. Okay. You have the money to pay for the items. >> Yeah. >> But why are we why are we trying to get a fast one in Walmart? >> I don't know. >> Like why? >> I don't know. You see what I'm saying? Like if you have the money to to take care of your business, right? Is is it worth all this trouble we're in right now? >> You got the cops involved. You could have just bought your stuff and been on your way to this baby shower. I'm sure that's where you're going to, right? >> Okay. But now we're here and we got the cops involved with something that you could have paid for. >> Can I pay for it all? >> I can pop in there and talk with them. If they decline that, then that's going to be their decision. Okay. I'll ask them. Okay. I'll I'll ask them if they they're okay with that. They may say no. Well, if they say no, then we're going to have to go the criminal route here. Okay, so here's what's going to happen. Okay, she's going to jail regardless. Okay, let me pop in your ask if if they're okay with you paying for all the items or not. If they are, then cool. If not, then we're going to address it the other way, which is criminal way. Okay, and then that will decide what we're going to do with you. Okay. >> Okay. >> I just want to let you know you do have two warrants for sure. >> Okay. Okay. One's out of state police for contempt of court and then the other is out of here magistrate court for you to defense for >> contempt of court. So you did something that the judge didn't like or you didn't follow his rules, whatever it was. Okay. So I just wanted to kind of keep you updated updated on what's going on. All right. Hang tight. So, home girl, that was in the black, not the one in the blue dress, the other one. She's saying she's more than willing to pay for the items. >> No. >> Okay, that's all I had to ask. I I had to ask cuz she's like, "I have the money. I'll pay for it." I was like, >> "No, we we we never ever take that." >> Okay. And that's all I need to know. So, here's what's going to happen. Okay. Blue dressed girl is going to jail for sure. She has warrants. She's going to go to jail for the shoplifting. Okay. >> I'm going to take the other one to jail for shoplifting, too. Cool. >> So, they're both going to jail for shoplifting. >> Thank you guys. Thank you guys for the description on the car, too. It was literally like a beam of light over their car. It was like Chevy hatchback white. And I'm like, "Okay." I'm driving down Maine. I get to like Country Club on Maine. Here comes this white hatchback dude. I'm like a hell. Turn my lights on. Flip. Almost get hit by a random car. >> Oh my god. >> I'm like, "Dude, what are you doing, dude?" >> He's all I'm like waving like saying he's sorry. I'm like, "Come on, man." >> All right. All right. Go and step outside. Move over to this other car. That one over there. Okay. [Music] >> Okay. Go this way. [Music] >> But you got to come on this side. >> You're under arrest now for shopping. Okay. She's under arrest for the same thing and her warrant. So you guys are both going to be going to jail today. Okay. I'mma stop by Britney and let her know about the car stuff like I said I would. Okay. I'll stop by there. Let her know she can take the car to wherever. Okay. >> We have court tomorrow. >> You what? Tomorrow is Monday. You'll see the judge tomorrow. Okay. So, the judge decides the bond and all that stuff in terms of when you get out. Okay. >> Do you have anything in your pockets at all? >> No. >> Okay. All righty. Hang on. Okay. Step up for me. Walk in all the way and face the wall. I'm going to get one of the cuts off you. Yep. Keep walking. Keep >> Oh, thank you. Yep. You're good. >> Yep. >> How long are we going to wait here for? >> Uh, I got to do some paperwork and then we got to get some photos and then we'll get out of here. So, if you want to have a seat, just sit down and we're right here and I'll bring your friend in here, too. So, >> okay. over here. That back door. >> Yep. This is where I was last time. >> And then turn right. Right here. Turn right. Face the wall. >> Okay. >> Both women were taken to jail. The driver got charged with theft and also had two existing warrants. The passenger was charged with theft regardless of her claim that she had enough money to pay. If convicted, they could each face up to a $1,000 fine and/or 6 months in jail. On April 11th, 2022, the police were dispatched to an Ulta Beauty store after getting a report that two teenagers had swiped about $300 worth of perfume and casually walked out without paying. >> Called about the shoplift. >> Yeah. >> Was anything actually taken? >> Yes. >> Okay. perfumes. >> Yeah, there's a manager. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> Yeah, I have other officers kind of look in the area right now while I um kind of figure out what happened here. >> Oh, yeah. They they just she just came in and she was looking around customer service for a while and then she walked out with a bunch of baggies in her hand. Um she hit me up with a bunch of friends as she was walking out. They went to TJ Maxx. I don't know if they're still there. Did they go inside or? >> Yeah, I did see them go inside and I did call TJ Maxx to let them know as well. I was like, "Hey, the people that just stole from me just walked into your store." >> Um, how long ago? >> Oh, maybe like five minutes ago. Not that long. >> Less than 15 minutes. >> Less than 15 minutes. >> Manager here said that our suspects walked into TJ Maxx about 5 minutes ago. >> Yeah. Um, one is wearing I wrote it down. gray sweater, new dark blue sweats, and then a dark blue bucket hat. The other one's blonde hair. >> So, wait, the first one is >> a gray gray sweater, dark blue sweats, and then a dark blue bucket hat. And she has like a tattoo underneath her eye, above her mouth. >> So, they're two different >> um Well, the the second person, this is the one that's left. The second one is the one that she met up with. So, like as soon as she walked out, she met up with another person. >> Okay. Yeah. Hello. Welcome in. I'm on my way and then presentation is the blonde hair. >> Yes. >> The first step in the investigation was gathering information from the first eyewitness. The store manager gave a detailed description of the suspect and confirmed she had an accomplice nearby. So, the search was on. >> Just for information, the suspect met up with another female who has blonde hair, blue dressing backpack, and then a blue backpack and leggings. Okay. And about how many how much in fragrances would you >> um I know she stole like I'm not sure dollar amount, but I know she stole about like six. >> Six. Okay. Like is there >> uh usually it's around like 30 >> around like the ones that she sold was like 30. So like close to 200 300 >> 200 300. We were able to like get a few away from her while she were customer service, but she end up blocking. Okay. And then if you if we find them, are you wanting to press charging? That works. Okay. And then um do you have an incident number? Oh, yeah. I can give you a case number here. All right. >> I'll wait for 24 before making contact. How's it going? >> Good. How are you? >> Good. >> Hi, police department. Hey, you. Hi, police. How are you? >> Good. >> Good. Okay. You're being detained right now. I'm not doing >> for theft. Nope. You're being detained for theft from Ulta. >> I'm not doing nothing. >> Relax. Relax. No. No. >> I'm not doing nothing. >> Put your hands. Bring it back. >> No. I'm not doing nothing. No. You're This is Bro, you're Nah. This is Nah. You're This is illegal, dog. I'm not doing anything. No. You're >> You're harassing me. I'm not doing nothing. >> Put your hands on your back. Correct. >> Um No. You can ask the guards. Am I doing anything wrong? >> No, bro. You're harassing me. You're harassing me. Stop. >> No. You're harassing me. Stop. Stop. You're harassing me. >> No. You're harassing me. You're helping me. Please. Help me. You're harassing me. I'm not doing nothing. You're harassing me. Help me. I wasn't doing nothing. You're harassing me. Help me. >> Hey, don't grab my hand. >> I'm not doing nothing. You're harassing me. Help. >> Her shirt up. >> Help me. >> Let me switch. >> Help me. Things escalated from simple shoplifting to obstruction and resisting an officer. That strong reaction could have been panic at getting caught or a deliberate attempt to derail the arrest. >> I'm not doing it. >> I'm pull off. I'm going to pull it up. Okay. Cover you. Sorry. >> Okay. Let's walk outside. >> Sorry. You guys are harassing me. >> Hold on. >> Okay, hold your side. Right. >> Straight. Knee straight. >> All right. >> All right. Send up. >> I don't know where the other >> She's moving. She >> You say she back this way. Yeah, but she's the main one. >> No, you're a rat, baby. No. >> Help me. [Applause] Help me. doing nothing. >> No, you guys are ringing me. >> Relax. >> No, no, >> you have cuffs are broken. [Music] >> My wrist is broken already, bro. I didn't say nothing. >> We're going to sit you up on your knees. You got her. Okay. >> The police handled it professionally, working to restrain the suspect without causing serious harm. Wearing body cams was the best way to protect everyone in case there were any disputes. [Music] I want to get some gloves on. [Laughter] >> You're hurting me. >> The car, please. Let's go. >> Okay, I'm ready. [Music] [Laughter] [Music] Straight ahead. >> Don't look at her. My wrist. My wrist. >> Touching your wrist. You're alive. >> Your wrist. >> Look straight ahead. >> You have a key. >> My [Laughter] [Music] seat, please. do nothing wrong in the car. >> You arrest me. >> You're under arrest. The car, >> please. >> We're trying to take the other cups off. >> I lost it up there. [Music] Stop my breathe. >> I am trying to get a pocket there. Lean back. Lean back. [Applause] >> Lean back. >> You guys are harassing me. I know my rights. You guys are harassing me. >> No, you guys are harassing me. I know my right. >> Okay. >> No. This is I know my right. Help me. >> Do not do that. >> No. I know my right. Stop. >> No. You guys are harassing me. >> They couldn't find the stolen goods on the suspect, which complicated the charges, but an eyewitness confirmed her identity. A huge piece of evidence. The suspect had likely passed the items off to someone else so she wouldn't be caught holding them. [Applause] >> Okay, I'm busy. Hold on. >> Help me. No, ma'am. Help me. >> Oh my gosh. Um, I got your magazine. >> Thank you. Appreciate that. >> My camera's up here. Thank you. >> What else did you lose? >> Um, let me go back. >> Um, >> my bad on that double. >> Well, I was going to do it out here, but then >> Well, it's I think she was too big. >> T4 have a subject detained. Does that invol theft? Is there someone that can ID her? >> Yeah. Um, okay. I can go with you. >> You go with me. Okay. >> So, she's detained in in handcuffs. Um just because she's in handcuffs doesn't mean that she's a person that did it. It's just as important to eliminate people uh that are innocent as it is to um ID people for us. So, I'm going have a seat back here in my car. We'll drive over there. If you don't care about getting out and looking at her, you can. And right to pull up next to her in the police cars with you. >> Okay. >> She has a very distinctive tattoo. >> Yeah. >> And I I know who it is. >> Okay. So, I think she gave the fragrances to the other person. Um I didn't get a chance to look for her because she was so uncooperative, but may go in there in a minute and look for her. She doesn't have the fragrances on her. Can you roll down your window? Can you roll down your window? Is that her? >> Okay. 61. We have a positive ID from the PA clerk. >> Positive ID 12. >> All right. On their way to your rights. Okay. So, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say, canon will be using them in a court of law. Do you understand each of these rights I've explained to you? >> Okay. Having those rights in mind, do you want to talk to me about anything that happened today? >> She kept on denying the whole thing, which is a pretty standard deny everything tactic meant to throw off the investigation. However, the cooperation between the witness and the police played a key role in piecing together what really happened. >> A manager said that you walked out out of Alta holding merchandise, perfume, about $300 worth. >> I didn't. Do I have any merchandise? >> Huh? >> Do I have any? >> She positively identified you as that person. >> Do I have any merchandise? I don't. >> She identified you as the person that walked. >> Any merchandise? >> Well, I understand that you met with someone. >> I don't have nothing. >> Well, then who's the chick who was with you? Oh, I was not with nobody. >> Yeah, you were. >> No, I wasn't. >> What? You think that we just walked into TJ and Max just because we were told that you went in there? That's why we even went in there. They saw you. >> Yeah, >> that's why of all these >> out of all these stores we could have come into you guys. >> Okay. All right. Do you want to talk to me about anything that happened today >> that happened today? >> Yes, indeed. >> Right now? Yes. >> When did that happen? >> When you me on the floor outside. >> Outside. >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. Um, let me get a photo of that. Just reminding you are being recorded. Okay. Can you take a look at me? Open your mouth. There you go. Do you need any medical attention for that? No, I don't. >> Okay. And you sure that happened today? >> Yes, it did. >> Okay. Cuz I when you kind of went down, you landed on top of the officer, so I wanted to Okay. All right. I'll take a look at the video and verify that. Any other injuries from today? No. Okay. So, here's what's going to happen. Uh, because you're a juvenile, juvenile detention won't take you. Otherwise, you would be going to jail. You're an adult. In a few months, you'll be going to jail for something like this. Um, so we're going to release you at the trans center. I don't want to see you around Fedway the rest of the day. It's time to hop on a bus and go home. Okay? If we get any more calls about you, then we're going to have to take some further action that doesn't involve you going home. Okay? That clear? Cuz I don't want to keep getting calls and stuff like that. I spoke to grandma. She doesn't want to come get you. So, you're going to go to the trans center. She says that >> eventually she was taken to jail and charged with theft, obstruction of law enforcement, and resisting arrest. Since she's a minor, she could be required to attend an education program, do community service, pay a fine, or face probation. [Music]
