and suspicions surround a criminal investigation right now involving a Sanger ISD employee and a student, but this time the employee accused of inappropriate conduct is not a teacher or a coach, but rather a Sanger ISD police officer. >> Another day, another Texas police officer accused of doing the one thing they're supposed to prevent. This time, it's Sanger ISD, where a school police officer has been suspended after what the district calls a criminal allegation involving a student. And yes, the district is telling parents basically nothing. >> Here's CBS News Texas's JD Miles. When a letter from the superintendent went out on Thursday that Sanger ISD was investigating a serious allegation involving a school district police officer and inappropriate conduct with a student. It had parents like Jake Williams asking the same question. >> I mean, once we thought the worst thing that would happen is a school shooting. That's why we placed officers at school and now we have to worry about this also. I think it's a disgrace. >> The school district would only add that the officer involved has been suspended and that the Sanger Police Department was investigating, which issued its own release today, saying that the allegation is of a criminal nature. The officer was yanked off duty after a serious allegation involving a student. The district called it criminal in nature. But here's the kicker. They won't say what campus it happened on. They won't say who reported it. They won't even say if other students were around. Sanger ISD would not say in its message to parents which school was involved, only that the officer worked in one of its secondary schools. The limited information released has frustrated some Sanger parents who want to know if any other children were at risk. >> Parents are furious and rightfully so. Imagine sending your kid to school and the district says, "Hey, uh, one of our cops may have done something criminal to a student, but we're not going to tell you where or when or how. Just stay calm." Yeah, sounds legit. >> Then you try calling the school and nobody has any answers or anything like that. And so something like this, if if it happens, you don't hear about it again or any parties involved or anything like that. And then you're sitting there wondering, can your kid go to school the next day? There were no classes at schools in Sanger today and the administration office was closed. >> Yes, you heard that right. The day after the suspension, Sanger ISD closed its administration office and canceled classes. When a district closes the doors and shuts down communication, it usually means one thing, damage control mode activated. The superintendent urged the community to refrain from speculation, but the district will have to answer more questions to make Jake Williams comfortable sending three of his kids back to school next week. >> It's getting to where I would rather homeschool my kids because that's probably where they're safest. There nobody's safe at a school anymore. You know, these cops love to lecture students about responsibility. Own your mistakes, make good choices. But suddenly, when they get accused of something criminal, they turn into magicians. But let's talk law for a second. When a police officer, even a school police officer, is accused of misconduct with a student, we're in the world of criminal law, education law, and section 1983, Federal Civil Rights Territory. Parents have the right to know what happened on campus. Students have the right to be protected and officers are held to the highest standard, at least on paper. What we don't know should make every parent uncomfortable. Which campus was the student targeted? Were other students present? How long was this officer interacting with students unsupervised? This isn't speculation. This is basic safety. If you're in Sanger ID, don't wait for the district to clean this up. Ask for the incident report. Ask for the board meeting recording. Ask who knew what and when. This is your district, your kids, your right to answers.
