I'm trying to figure out I'm trying to be nice and not tow his truck, but when I asked him who you wanted me to release it to he just started screaming at me. So, if you want to go ask cuz he's mad at me. >> Nope. >> I don't want to have to tow it, but he says anybody so. Hey James. James is there here. >> Uh no. >> I don't know where he's at yet. >> Okay, well I didn't know if he's going to show up. I need someone I need someone to drive Pape's truck. He says he trust anybody here with it to take it, but somebody's got to drive it or else I got to I got to tow it. Somebody's got to take possession of Pape's truck or I have to tow it. I'm trying to give him that courtesy before we take our ride. I tried to ask him specifically and he said anybody so. Yeah. Yeah, take it back to his house. I don't want to tow it unless I have to. Hey Joe. We talk back here. Just want you to be aware Pape's is in my car under arrest. >> Really? >> He is drunk as a skunk. Um I'm going to give you more than you you probably are supposed to know, but somebody called us about him being drunk earlier and he was back at his house. I don't want to be that guy already." So. >> I heard your truck whenever I pulled in, and I'm like, "They already have it loaded up?" >> Yeah, no, it was quick, wasn't it? All right, one of those guys is going to take it as soon as I can get out of here, I will, but obviously I can't get out, so. We'll do that spiel for if he wants to do anything at the jail. I'm not doing it here on scene. He's going to say no, but I'll do it with him anyway. Is your headlight out? It's on our truck. >> Oh, there is. >> Ironic. Hey, Pap. Tell DC our HEADLIGHT'S OUT AGAIN. ALWAYS SOMETHING, HUH? ALL RIGHT, I'M GOING TO LOAD UP AND GET spun around so I can get out of here. You may want to come up. >> The firefighter that was arrested is Christopher Pap. His age is unknown, but he was charged with DUI, driving under the influence. He was booked at the Montgomery County Jail. There was no bond set, and the officer in the video correctly mentions there's no bail anymore. This is because Illinois passed the Safety Act, which officially abolished cash bail on September 18th, 2023. Meaning, instead of paying money, the defendants now attend a pre-trial release hearing, where a judge decides if they should be held or released based on the public safety risk. This situation was a perfect storm of bad decisions. The police initially responded to a residential fire alarm call that turned out to be a false alarm from a dying battery in a smoke detector. When the officer was wrapping up the call, firefighter Chris Pap arrived on the scene in his truck. The officer immediately noticed Chris was slurring his words and smelled of alcohol. Also, the officer had prior knowledge of a citizen who called in dispatch earlier that night who reported Chris drinking at a local corner store. Despite being a fellow first responder, the officer had to carry forth his police duties and arrest the firefighter. Chris then quickly became belligerent arguing with the officer about whether other people were being checked. While specific records like this are often kept private, a firefighter on duty getting arrested for DUI is usually a career-ending event leading to resignation and termination to protect the department's reputation. >> Please like and subscribe [music] for more videos. >> [music]
