Did you guys are trying to purchase something in Best Buy? >> Did you and someone else are trying to purchase someone inside Best Buy? >> I don't know what we're talking about. >> You don't know what we're talking about? >> I got you. Where is the driver of the vehicle? >> I don't know. >> No, you don't want to talk or nothing. >> I don't know what's wrong with us. Someone told something about someone coming in here trying to use bogus cards or something. So, >> I think I do a little >> You're in the vehicle that the person was in. That's all. >> I don't know. >> No, you don't know. Do you have an ID on your friend? >> I don't have to give you my ID. You don't have to give me an ID. >> Okay. So, your friend just disappeared on you then. Stay over here, man. Don't be reaching in the car. That's what we're talking. >> I don't know what you're reaching for. I don't know you. You you you came you walking up. >> We're investigating a crime. >> You're we are investigating a crime. You were in a vehicle that was potentially used in a crime. Correct. You're >> coming up to me. >> Correct. >> Where are you at? >> I don't know. Stand by that officer. >> I'm about to do one. >> Yeah, you are. Dude, you anyway, man. You got out of the car. All right. Step over there. Step over there. >> No, you you could try and do what you want, but this is not that, boy. We work by the law. Okay. Now same car. You came out of that car. You don't know where he's at, right? >> But I don't know what you're talking about, bro. >> Okay, >> that's fine. Yeah, he's on. >> You don't want to give us your ID, man. >> I'm not giving you nothing, bro. I don't know you. You don't know me. I ain't >> I'm a police officer certified with the state of Illinois, and you are potentially being involved in a crime. So, I'm now demanding you for your license. You no longer have the right to refuse your license. Just so you know. >> I'm not giving you my license. >> Okay. And you want to be arrested for them. Don't need to. Oh, sorry. >> Nope. >> So, where did the other guy walk off to? Do you know? >> No, he's not. >> Cuz that's not our guy, right? That's not the one that came in here. >> No. >> You need to do more investigation before you start touching people and disobeying my rights, bro. >> Sure. >> You need to do more investigation. Sure. >> So, when you do want to do a little bit more of that? >> Well, the sergeant came. You want to talk to her? That's fine. >> Go ahead. So, I'll tell you exactly what I just did. >> I don't have to. You You can't just come up to me and walk up to me and demand my ID and you don't even know. >> Well, you're potentially involved in a crime. So, yes, I can. >> You don't know that. Well, you don't know me. >> Exactly. For whatever reason, you don't want to give us your ID. So, >> you just welcome me and >> I'm not some stranger. I'm a police officer. So, >> that's fine. >> Anybody else in the car? >> No, we don't know the other guy. >> He doesn't want to talk to us. Who is the uh who is the person in question? >> He was in the oven. I'm asking a question. We going to play that game. >> What game? >> I was just asking. Were you just sitting in the passenger seat? >> Yes or no? >> Bro, >> okay. I'm just asking you a simple question that could help alleviate a lot of this. >> Okay. The second card he presented said uh Christopher Tovar. Okay. Oh, he ran around the back. They're saying he's they're saying he ran around the back. >> He's back there now. >> All right. That's what they're saying. He ran around the back. >> We're unit from 80. Apparently, he's around the back of the business. Somebody want to check back there. >> People go behind the store. >> Yeah. Where's that? >> He's inside the store. Are you guys good here? >> Yeah. >> Oh, there's probably in the damn condo back there. [Music] Yeah, this 30 seconds. You literally ran that way 30 seconds ago. >> All right. >> Hey, you can finish this. >> We can resolve a lot of this pretty quick here. Just takes a little cooperation. >> I'm not cooperating with you, bro. I don't really know. You don't know me. >> Okay. Well, my name is Steve. What's your first name? just just a simple conversation. >> Why do you think that's why you want to assert whatever you want to assert? >> So like like you you say what you you can say what you want to say. This is the free country. >> Okay. Say what you want to say. So this goes one of two ways. One, you can go in handcuffs. Two, you can tell us what's going on today. And if you have nothing to do with it, perfect. Then you go home. >> Was this guy in the store at all? >> No, he never came in. He sat in the car the whole time. >> So you just stay in the car? >> Yeah. The the guy we're looking for came in once. He tried to use a card that said Rochelle Turner. The car got declined. >> Then he tried to use a prepaid American Express card. >> Okay. >> So we just they just got it canceled and blocked it hoping he'd just leave. So he came back out and he came back in again. Was on a card with the name Christopher. That card was also declined. Okay. >> So, he for all intents and purposes really >> Yeah, I'm sure they're together, you know, but you know, >> he was he never came in this car though. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Did um do you see if he went towards Costco or just >> Yeah, my camera only shows you I can see like just barely part of the lawn of u you know parking lot there. It's like right where the bush is. You just see them running west on the sidewalk on on the south sidewalk west. >> Okay. Um on the north sidewalk north sidewalk I didn't work. >> All right. They didn't get any merchandise though. >> No. No. I'm just trying to buy, you know, $2,600 worth of legit >> $2,600 >> and iPad Pro, AirPod Pros, and a Apple Watch Ultra. >> Okay. All right. Uh you going to be in there for a little bit? >> Yeah. Okay. All right. >> Can you just answer our questions? >> What do you mean you're you're >> Oh, so I'm talking to him now. I want to talk to you because he said you were just sitting in the car. If that's the case, I don't know. I don't know. You don't know him. Oh god. >> You don't know him. But they said you guys came here in the same car. >> And then you were And then you were just >> Did he say he seen me before? >> You were just sitting in the passenger seat. >> Did he say he seen me before? >> I'm not saying he saw you before, >> but he's saying that you guys got here together. >> You better hide. >> I don't know what you're talking about. >> What are you trying to do? If I could leave Am I free to go? >> Well, this isn't your car. >> Am I free to go? This isn't your car though, right? So >> until we figure out this investigation. No, >> I'm free to go. >> They're trying to talk to you about why Best Buy called us, but you're being uncooperative. >> Best Buy didn't call for me. So I don't know what >> called and said that you guys are using >> nothing about me. So that don't I don't know what you're talking about. >> Okay. And you won't answer my car question about whose car this is that you're sitting in. You don't want to talk. >> Give us a little something for us. >> I'll work with you. Nothing. >> I'll work I'll work with you. >> I'll work with you on I'll work with you on getting you out of here, but I don't know your involvement in the case. I wanted >> part of my investigation might be talking to you to see if you want to tell us anything about why Best Buy called this year. >> I don't know. >> I asked you if this is your car. You just want to stay silent. >> This is not >> You don't want to identify yourself? >> Okay. You want to talk to us about what's going on? >> I don't know if you belong in this car cuz you want to identify yourself. You got you ain't get back in it. You weren't a driver in it. you were a passenger. So, as far as I'm concerned, it's not your car. >> You know, you you're that's all your observation. Just just that's observation. >> You talk to me and you'd identify yourself. I could I could associate you with this car, but until then, you ain't leaving in this car. >> You can't. >> You want to leave? Walk. >> You can't tell me to walk. >> Yeah, we can. You just did. >> I could tell you to walk. >> I don't have to walk around >> right now. Okay. You just asked if you could leave. Did you not? If >> you don't know this guy, this isn't your car, then then book it. I don't care. >> But you're not getting in the car then. >> Plain and simple. >> Okay. So, like you said, >> yeah. So, you want to leave? >> You don't have to tell you. You had a better demeanor before. I'm not I'm not I didn't I didn't get disrespectful. You just You just want me to do exactly what you what you want. >> Yeah. While we're investigating a crime. Yeah. 262. >> If you would give us all your driver's license or something that we could say, "Yeah, that's you." Okay, >> that's the person. >> It doesn't matter. You're going about it all wrong. That's the point. >> Because you know this is your car. >> So then you tell us how to go. Hang on. >> You're going about it wrong. Best guy said you guys got out of his car >> and then when we came here, you were sitting in the passenger seat. So that's how it pertains to you. >> They were watching you guys on the cameras. Nothing pertain none of what you said pertains to me because not one damn person. >> If you like to identify yourself to show to show you own the car. >> He just did. >> He did not. >> He said you're in the passenger seat. >> He didn't say you stole anything. >> These are tinted windows. >> Okay. You saying somebody can see inside this type of car? >> Well, I see three cameras right there. >> All right. I can see I can I can see through like this car right here or something or like something you can see through. But like you're a guy, you guys are talking about this car right here. This is this is a car with tents. >> Put the window rolled down. >> I guess. Yeah, I guess >> that's why we're here. >> And I know we could do all this huming back and forth, but like I'm I don't have nothing more else to say. I don't know. I've been on the phone. >> Well, >> you guys are trying to, you know, disrespect me. Disrespectful disrespectful. You essentially won't let me leave. I said you could leave. You're not leaving in this car. That's all. >> Okay, I'll go around. >> No, you're not getting in this car. >> Don't touch me, bro. Don't touch me. >> Stop it. You're happy. I will. >> Hey, I will Hey, touch me. Touch me one more time. I will smack the out of you. >> This is all on camera. You're not getting >> touch one more time. I will smack you. >> Not getting in the car. >> You touch me. Did I Did I Did I come at you or did you come at me? >> Did I touch you or did you touch me? Getting in the car. >> Did you touch me or did I touch you? >> Did I touch you or did you touch me? I didn't touch each other. It's all on camera. It's all on camera, dude. >> I'm not worried about it. >> I know. >> But you're not getting you're not getting in the car. You won't identify yourself. >> I want to get my money. >> You're not getting anything out of the car. How do we know that's your money? You don't know this guy. You don't know it's his car, right? >> So, you're going to know what you're talking about. I'm getting my money, bro. >> All right. Now, you're going to handcuff Poland. You think that's where he kind of crossed over? >> Uh, no. If he crossed over our might where the by the SUV is right there kind of closer by the pole. >> Okay. >> Right there >> and then he crossed over and landed on the other side kind of where that SUV is like where that those weeds are. All right. Perfect. Thank you very much, man. I appreciate it >> because you won't stand still. You won't cooperate. >> You're under arrest. How many times you want? >> You're under arrest. >> It's a misdemeanor, bro. Get out of here. I I have it. >> Let the phone go, >> bro. Put it in my pocket in your pocket. We'll put it in touch, bro. Make sure you don't have any touch. Stop going in my pockets, bro. >> He's in the bushes. He's by the pond right here on the side. Get some folks here. It's probably >> here. Let's go this way. >> Subject in the bushes by the pond. West. >> We'll give it to you back in the station, bro. Get Stop. I've asked you to sit. You're not going to sit. I'm going to put you in the car. Stop. You're going to get tased. You're going to get tased. >> All right. He's in the bushes. >> Put your hands up. Put your hands up. >> Hands up. >> You're going to get bit. Put your hands up now. I can't see your hand. Put your hands up now. >> Put your hands above your head. Put your hands up. Get your hands up. >> So we can see them. >> Put your hands up the whole time. Hands up. Walk forward. Keep >> walking. Hands forward. >> Stay in line. You're going to get hands. Hands up. Keep walking. >> I'm tired of help. You got yourself down. Get yourself out. >> On the ground. On the ground. You ain't got to do all that. >> Get on your chest. >> What y'all doing? >> Let go of the Let go of the branch. Let go of the tree. >> What y'all doing the most for? Turn your wrist. >> You got any weapons on you or anything? >> No. >> I was just smoking a little blood back here. What y'all? >> Yeah. I just drove up and got started walking to you. >> He does have a dog, though. I wasn't lying about that. >> About to come out, man. Get him to work. >> Yeah, he does. I don't get through it. She turned up, >> right? So, why y'all harassing me? >> You're not Isaiah, right? This guy. >> Yeah, it's my boy. >> Y'all pick him up. >> You want to do a show? >> What's your first j? >> I confuse everyone. >> Is it J A L? Jaylen. J. >> Yeah, I know. Are there paper towels out here? >> No. >> What's your last name? >> T L E M E N S. >> Who was the other on for legal substances? >> Why would you just end up losing [ __ ] >> That's going to be my making jokes all day. >> I'm not making a joke. I'm not laughing at all. We had another guy that wrapped the police on a stolen car and he actually lost his shoe the same way. It was awful. Well, since we're no longer suspect. >> Hey everyone, it's Trent, prior deputy sheriff, patrol sergeant, and K9 handler. Any call that law enforcement goes to, they're never going to have all of the information up front. And that's why once they arrive on scene, they need to do their due diligence and complete a thorough investigation to determine what crimes, if any, have been committed, who the suspects are, who the involved parties are, what evidence there is, etc. And that's why when they go to calls like this, the threshold to detain somebody is much lower than it is to make an arrest. To make an arrest, you need probable cause. To detain somebody, to investigate a crime, you need reasonable suspicion that a crime was committed. and whoever you're talking to, interacting with, or looking for was likely involved in that crime, or you have reasonable suspicion to believe that they could be. These officers do know, and what they were told is that that suspect arrived in that vehicle, and his intent was to go into the Best Buy to illegally use these credit cards. So, technically, yes, that vehicle was utilized during the commission of a crime. And the other thing that they've established is that this other suspect standing outside the vehicle is associated with that vehicle, even if it's as a passenger and he has knowledge of who the suspect is. But just because the suspect standing outside the vehicle did not go inside the store does not mean upfront that he is not culpable. That he did not aid the main suspect before, during, or after this incident. Remember, the suspect went in the first time, car didn't work, came back out, and then went back in again. Also, where did these cards come from? How did they steal them? Once law enforcement eventually searched this vehicle, there was a total of 16 stolen credit cards, a handgun, magazine, and marijuana. Crimes like this, in my experience, people that are committing credit card fraud, identity theft, there is always a higher likelihood that inside their vehicles in situations like this, they will have additional mail that's stolen, credit cards that are stolen, IDs that they shouldn't have. And so that's why when you're going to a call like this, like I already said, you don't want to just let somebody go that's potentially affiliated with a crime that has been committed there. Also, for this vehicle, initially, they did not know who it belonged to. The suspect in the parking lot would not provide his identifying information. The main suspect was running around somewhere. And so, you're also not going to let this suspect in the parking lot just take a vehicle that he potentially does not own. There could potentially be illegal weapons in there, additional evidence relating to the crimes that were committed inside the store that you don't want him to access or to tamper with. There's a whole host of reasons why you do not want to allow this guy to access that vehicle. But because, especially at the very end, he was not listening and was going to go try to do it anyway, he definitely earned that obstruction charge. And after they located those 16 stolen credit cards, the main suspect said he found them on the ground. But they were able to make contact with some of the victims who actually own those credit cards and said that they never received them in the mail. Meaning more than likely the suspect or somebody affiliated with him was intercepting mail, stealing out of mailboxes, and that's how they obtained a lot of that stuff. And that's going to be it for this one. See you guys in the next one. >> The fake card man was arrested for credit card fraud in illegal possession of ammunition. The passenger partner was charged with resisting arrest and obstruction. Both face court dates and are presumed innocent until proven guilty. [Music] [Music]
