Justina Biemonte joined Bethel Police in 2016. Police say Biemonte's brother had been drinking before he caused a three-vehicle collision around 12:40 in the morning on January 12th of last year. He fled the scene and called his sister who picked him up at a nearby parking lot but waited an hour and 16 minutes to call 911 and report the crash. Bethel Police released a statement saying in part, "The Bethel Police Department takes these matters seriously and holds its members to high professional and ethical standards. Maintaining public trust is a priority for this department." >> Departments love to say, "This doesn't reflect who we are." But when accountability is slow, when consequences are delayed, and when statements come faster than answers, it reflects something. Trust isn't destroyed by criticism. It's destroyed by double standards. And when the public sees one set of rules for civilians and another behind the badge, they don't forget it. Thin blue lies, baby.
