At this point, Edward pulled out a handgun and threatened to shoot unless she released him. During the struggle, Edward's gun accidentally discharged, hitting both the female officer and himself. >> a suspect down. He has a gun. >> Get off me. >> I need back-up. Who need back-up immediately? Did you do No. >> The young officer, in a moment of panic, fired a shot into Edward's back. After being shot, Edward lost his ability to resist and the original officers quickly rushed him to the hospital for treatment. He would face at least three felony charges. The female officer who fired the shot was on her first day of duty and this was her very first time firing a weapon in the line of duty. After the incident, she was placed on administrative leave. Following an investigation, it was determined that her actions were justified and reasonable.
