Yeah, I have two roommates. What are their names? So, you're saying you did do this, but you did it as a joke? It was as a joke and it was only to three people. Um, I'm realizing now that I was stupid. I I did not mean it at like serious at all. Like I'm not a violent person. You can ask any of the teachers. I'm very calm. Um, but I was working on a lesson plan and she turned it off and I was like, bro, come on, but it wasn't meant to be violent in any way. Do you have any uh weapons in the any of the bags? >> No, you guys can check anything. I have a backpack, too. I don't know if she had it or yeah, it's right there. So, I mean you did say I know. uh student and so you are going to go with us, okay? I do got to process you. Um you're going to have to stay the night in jail. Okay. Okay. This is crazy. >> I know. I know. I did not mean it to get to this far. Like this is insane. Well, what how today is I mean we >> [snorts] >> if we said it I believe you I know. I don't know. It's it's it's tough. I'm going to be honest I said I um we are going with what we saw and so we have to respond that way and [clears throat] Okay, so if you would like they can take your car. Mhm. You want them to do that? Um yeah. Okay. I don't have a problem with >> You can take my car. I don't care. Okay. My keys are in my jacket. Which pocket? The right pocket? >> either one. It's in there. Yeah, I'm not sure if I want to do it like that. And state's attorney will review our case. >> When I'm in there, am I able to like call my mom? >> Yeah. Okay. Um do you want to give them the whole key ring? Do you want to >> No, the the whole thing is fine. Well, my ID >> your driver's license. Do you want me to take this off? Is this your car key and the remote or the fob? Yeah, just the keys, yeah. And if you would like if I can ask the school, I mean you can call mom for really, but I you're going to be in like a holding area, so I mean at least if you like make a phone call here, if you'd like to do that. Yeah. So, she she'll probably like meet me there. Okay. I think like how does this work cuz I told him I was like I've never even been pulled over. Like I've never been anything. Um I'm just going to put everything else except for this back in your coat, okay? >> Like So, what's going to happen is you're going to be processed then, okay? So, they'll ask you like I'm going to ask you the questions right now and they'll take you in. They'll ask you the same questions, take picture of you, then you'll stay in a holding cell until tomorrow. Okay. Okay, the state's attorney is going to review our report to see if they want to go further with this or what, okay? So, that's all like I said, it's up to state's attorney in the morning. But like do I have like a court hearing? >> So, that's what what will happen is the state attorney will They'll all eventually get let out? >> Yeah, so what happens tomorrow then is that they're going to review my report. Okay. And they'll say yes, uh she has a bond or she can stay or something like that. That's what they'll decide in the morning. >> Okay. So, um and that's up to the state attorney's office in the morning. Okay. So, >> where where is You're going to be in Pekin. Okay. Um it's it's the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office, so you can go find them on that. So, Did you ask them if she could use that phone here? Uh no, I can't. >> Yeah, if you want to just ask them if Can I use the phone to call my Um I got to go to school right now and I made a stupid post on Snapchat and it was a joke. It was fully a joke. I am so scared. And they're taking me to Pekin. So, I need you to meet me out at Pekin. What's at Pekin jail? [laughter] Pekin County Jail. I need you to meet me there. I don't know what It was just a joke. It was a stupid Snapchat and [laughter] now he's got it. I am so sorry. I don't know what to do. >> [laughter] >> It's Pekin County Jail. Tazewell County. Tazewell Pekin County Jail. They're making me sleep [laughter] on the floor tonight. I don't know. I'm so sorry. I'm such an idiot. They aren't going to take your car, so You going to hold them on? Okay. Do you want me to meet you there? Okay. Do you think there will be a bond or anything? I So, the the whole new uh law changed about bonding and that. I don't know how it works anymore. I mean, I'm going to be honest. >> think there's a law. I mean, tomorrow. Yeah. Like, when she sees the state attorney, it's either hold or release, right? So, there's no way >> sure I'm staying there tonight. Yes. [clears throat] Yes. Here's what we're going to do. We're just going to walk you out, okay? When we get out to my car, I'm going to put a belt on you and put you got to be handcuffed. So, I'm just going to handcuff you in the front. Okay. Okay. >> Yeah. You're being cooperative. Um So, um do you have any other questions for us? No. I'll come back and talk to you. Okay. Thanks. Thanks. You can take this one. The woman in custody is Kristen Volz. She is a 22-year-old student teacher from John L. Hennessey Elementary in Washington, Illinois. She was charged with disorderly conduct and was booked at the Tazewell County Jail. She was released on a $0 bond because Illinois eliminated cash bail under the Safety Act. On January 29th, 2025, Kristen sent a private Snapchat message to her boyfriend and two of her roommates venting about a student who frustrated her by closing her laptop and deleting the entire lesson plan. Here's where the story gets wild. Snapchat's AI filter flagged the message automatically and reported it directly to the FBI. The FBI passed the information to the local police and within 1 hour of the Snapchat message being sent, she was arrested at the school. Kristen ended up spending the night in jail for that Snapchat message. But, the next morning, the state attorney reviewed the case. The deputies concluded she made the Snapchat message out of pure frustration with zero intent to harm anyone and ultimately posed no threat. No formal charges were ever filed and Kristen was let go from the jail. But, it wasn't a clean ending. The school district did confirm she would not be returning back to her job as student teacher anymore. The real takeaway here, it doesn't matter if it's a joke. It doesn't matter if it's a private message to three people. These social media platforms are watching everything you do, and they will act fast. One bad joke cost this girl a night in jail and her entire student teaching placement. Let us know what you think down in the comments.
