Rub it on that. >> And then that's a cold heart. >> The suspect, 41-year-old Walfrey Bautista [music] Miranda, survived his multiple gunshot wounds after paramedics arrived and transported him to the hospital to treat him. He was later indicted by a grand jury for the charges of felony aggravated stalking, felony aggravated assault on an officer, two counts of felony aggravated assault family violence, felony hijacking a motor vehicle in the first degree, and two counts of felony possession of a knife during the commission of a felony. He took a plea deal, pleading guilty to all charges for a reduced sentence. [music] He was later sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and 15 years of probation. An investigation was opened into the officer who discharged his firearm following the incident by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and he was later determined to be justified in his decision. There's a truth about this job most people never hear. You have to train your mind to believe the impossible is possible before it ever happens. Because nobody shows up to roll call expecting this, not a machete, not a cruiser getting [music] taken. But if your mind hasn't already gone there, you're already behind when it does. Now, at 2 minutes and 6 seconds in the video when he steps out for a cop, that's where hesitation tries to creep in. And hesitation doesn't need minutes, it just needs a second. So, what actually keeps this from getting worse? Control. Because we hear the officer checking with the sergeant before moving. That's discipline under pressure. When adrenaline goes up, people want to act. But the ones [music] who stay grounded, they communicate, they follow direction, and that's what keeps more people from getting hurt. And even after the threat is stopped, they don't shut it off, they switch roles and give aid to the suspect. Is getting through it is one thing, understanding what it just did to you, that's something nobody talks about.
