He's getting the Red Bull making. >> You can talk about that in court. Okay. >> On August 2nd, 2023, officers in New Mexico were conducting routine patrol at a local Target when store security flagged them down. Loss Prevention alerted them to a woman attempting to leave the store with a cart full of unpaid items. Here's what the officers did next. >> Hi there, ma'am. Can you wait right here with us? Okay. So, it is brought to our attention. What's your name? >> Robin. Robin, what's your last name? Robin. Okay. Um, do you happen to have an ID on you? I don't. >> No. >> Okay. What's your uh what's your date of birth? And you said it's Robin. Okay. So, it was brought to our attention that you purchased um food, but you had other items that you were leaving with. >> I wasn't leaving. I hadn't not walked out the store yet >> cuz you saw us. >> No, on camera. That's what it looks like. >> Well, that's not what happened. >> Okay. It doesn't look like the Red Bull is on here either. >> Mhm. He's getting the Red Bull. Do you have your receipt? I know he scanned the Red Bull. That was the first thing I scanned. Okay. He had a different another receipt, too, that had printed. I guess I printed it out two different times. Can I see your receipt? [applause] >> Okay. And you used the food stamp. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, the thing is is that uh you had already passed all the points of sale before exiting the store. You understand that? That >> went to the bathroom. >> I went to That's not what it looks like on the camera. >> Well, you can look. I went into the bathroom. So, here's the thing, Robin. Um, you runner, >> get all her information and runner. You don't have an idea on you at all? No. >> Is your information going to come back or are you >> are you keeping that from me? >> No, it was going to come back >> with that date of birth. >> Okay. >> So, here's the thing. We're going to do a trespass and uh you can no longer shop here at at Target. Okay. You can't be on their property. That includes the parking lot. >> Okay. If you are on the property in the store, you will be arrested for criminal trespass. Okay. >> All right. Um just wait with us for a second while we do that and we get you that information. >> I've not seen other I mean fragrance in the town. I know that was I was going to come to you customer service. >> You go what? You customer service. >> Why would you do a customer service? That means something >> because I need to return something. >> You need to return something. Okay. So, usually when you do returns, you do it in your first year. >> No, not out what I wanted to return. >> That's years and how it works. >> What are you returning with? >> That's how I always did it. >> What's your What are you returning? Oh, I already had it with the um the filter. >> So, you already returned it? >> I gave it to them to hold on to. >> So, if I go ask them, they're going to confirm that? >> I don't know. It's a different name. >> It's pretty convenient. We need to confirm your information. >> You have nothing with an ID on it. Nothing with a >> What about used EBT card, right? That's got your name on it. >> That doesn't have your name on it. >> Yeah. Can we see? Usually EBT cars have names on it. It doesn't have my name on it. >> Used to work uh grocery stores. >> Doesn't have my name on it. >> Is this your backpack in here? >> Don't Don't pick your stuff out of the cart. >> The officers aren't buying it. They point out the unpaid backpack sitting right in her cart. Her response is to claim that filling an unpaid bag with unpaid merchandise is just a normal way to shop. >> This your backpack in the cart. >> Did you pay for it? >> You pay for it. Okay. You didn't pay for it. Okay. >> Yeah. Why would you put it inside the backpack? People usually don't >> People usually don't shop like that. That's usually >> not a normal way of shopping. If you saw before, they didn't have room in my cart. There's there's plenty of room. >> We understand that we shop, too. We know how to fill a cart. We know how to do this. >> So, the things that you're telling us, we know how to return items. None of that makes sense for a reasonable person. >> I I guess so. Because loading a backpack up of stuff that you're going to walk out with, you saw us looking at you over here as Lost Adventure was talking to us. So, you decided to walk this way. Maybe you can just get by. Like maybe we wouldn't notice. You know, I did a stupid kid could do that. >> Of course you saw me. >> Like that's stupid to do. >> Why wouldn't you just walk right there and then behind? >> Because I was going to go to customer service. Then why would you come right here? >> And I also want to just get a Starbucks. >> You want me to use EVT with a Starbucks drink? >> I'll use that Starbucks. I would if I didn't. >> So, what were you going to do with that stuff? >> Put it here. I did. Ask him to hold on to it for me. >> While the suspect waits inside, one of the officers steps out to run the name she provided through dispatch. >> Okay. >> Hey, it's frame 200. I have a name and date of birth when you're ready. >> 200. Go ahead. >> Dispatch finds an ID in the system for Robin matching the date of birth the suspect gave. But before the officer can get a visual match, the store's loss prevention officer stops him to explain what happened and let police know there may be a waiting accomplice. game 200. I'm finding Robin local. >> She walked through all this or what? >> She literally walked through. She was right here trying to go out the door. [clears throat] Meanwhile, dispatch confirms the name she gave officers as an active NCIC warrant with full extradition. Why? >> Put your Put your drink in there. >> Why? >> Take this off. >> I'm going to arrest you for shopping with me. >> I'm not shopping. >> Do not resist. >> Do you want an extra charge of resisting and you can continue making things? >> Do not resist, >> ma'am. Do not resist. >> That's an extra charge. >> You're under arrest for shoplifting and resisting. >> Why? I wasn't shopping. >> Why are you trying to keep us from your purse? >> Walker 106 200 is going to have more than 250. [ __ ] >> stop, man. >> Oh, you guys are >> We're not here to hurt you. >> You let me go. I wasn't shoplifting. I didn't walk out of the store with it. Let me go. Why are you still resisting? >> Just sit her up. Sit her up. right there. >> I wasn't even shot. >> Okay. Well, you can you can talk about that in court. Okay. >> Stop trying to take this STUFF OFF. >> OW. >> GOOD. READY? ONE. You got to get up on three. Okay. >> What else was uh was in here besides that? >> That was it. >> Okay. >> Okay. Um, Solano, can you take her purse and then we'll search that? Take >> to the front of the unit. Who's going to focus us? >> Hey, careful with that co. She's almost slipping out. Tighten it a little bit more. >> Stop. >> Stop. You're acting ridiculous. What are you asking for? >> You're already in cops. You're not going anywhere. >> I don't have anything. Put me in the com. She wants to lay down. >> You want to get her? Let me get to the other side. Make you guys work. >> Listen closely here. As officers search the suspect's bag, they discuss their still ongoing investigation and the extent of the charges she's earned from not only shoplifting, but resisting so forcefully that she drew blood. She gave me what? >> Yeah, I know. Like for real reason too. Like >> get a visual. Is that actually her? >> Yeah. >> She's the first and he's lost. She has a sister though like a bunch of pill pouches. >> Did you find a scale? >> Yeah, I know. >> She just finger. >> She punched you. She tried to push me. >> How did she punch you? Like with her fingers. >> Yeah. She That's not a fight, right? >> No. Right. >> What's Serena looking for? The guy her boyfriend >> officers searched the parking lot for the suspect's vehicle and her boyfriend who lost prevention has told police is a known accomplice. >> Looks clear. >> And who pointed out this vehicle? >> I think it's the guys inside. I think that's prevention. >> Okay. So then boyfriend still around here somewhere. >> You know, it's just it's gotten so bad. >> I know. And and it's like I I know what you can't do. >> Well, we can and we do and and we just keep seeing the same >> same people >> people and it's very frustrating because >> stealing. It's like you guys got better [ __ ] to do, right? >> Well, yeah. And then I want This is like a good spot, you know? People should be able to come here and shop in peace, but they can't. >> I know. >> Because it's just that's why we're always here, you know? >> I know. I know. It's out of control. >> Yeah. You know, >> I'm from here. I used to always come shop here. >> Yeah. >> And like this was like the better spot. You'd expect that kind of stuff at Walmart maybe and like it's just it's insane. So it's very frustrating when us normal people want to come and just buy our stuff like normal. >> I know. I know. >> We have to cuz we're all paying the price. >> I don't know what the answer is. When I pulled in and I saw you guys over there, I was like, "Uh-oh, what's going on?" Immediately you're like, "What's going on?" >> Basket full. Like probably $2,000 worth of stuff. >> Are you serious? >> $2,000? >> Yeah. >> I didn't think you could get $2,000. Oh, you can at Target. You must not have stopped the target before. >> Do you have something to drink here? >> Yeah, I'll give you some if you have full. >> Huh? >> If you act full, I'll get you some water. If you actually >> What about a cigarette? >> Uh, I'll get you water first and we'll talk about a cigarette later. Ow. >> Now turn around. Yeah, >> she had her uh she has her ID. >> Her ID. Yeah, >> she gave you Robin. >> Yeah. >> While the police officers are processing the suspect, they locate her ID and discover the fake name she gave was her sisters. Meaning she was willing to allow her own sister to be trespassed and possibly face charges in order to avoid facing outstanding warrants. >> That's why she didn't want to give us her ID. Remember the name that she gave you? >> Robin. >> Okay. And >> Mhm. Yep. So, we'll need to let dispatch know because now she has concealing >> and I bet she has warrants on there. Now, if she has warrants, I'll take care of the warrants so you can focus on her new charges. Okay, >> it's Alyssa. >> Yeah, that's give us her sister's name. >> Yeah, I did. Can you open her real quick? >> But Robin wasn't the only one with a warrant. Officers ran Alisa's info through their system, revealing she had an active warrant of her own for unlawful taking of a motor vehicle. The warrant was confirmed and Alisa was held without bond. >> What's your sister's name? >> Uh, yeah, that's >> After the arrest, Alyssa was charged with attempted shoplifting and battery upon a peace officer, both fourthderee felonies in New Mexico, along with resisting or evading an officer, and a petty misdemeanor for concealing her identity. Because she had an active arrest warrant for the unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, she was held without bond. She initially entered a plea of not guilty following a grand jury indictment. In April 2024, a bench warrant was issued for her failure to comply [music] with conditions of release. However, in October 2024, she entered a plea and disposition agreement, changing her plea to guilty, and the judge adjudicated her guilty on all four charges. Shortly after her plea, the bench warrant was canled. She was ordered to be released on supervised probation. Heat. Heat.
