On September 28th, police in Cleveland received a tragic 911 call after a petty dispute between neighbors over a shared parking space resulted in the fatal shooting of a 3-year-old boy. Around 2:00 p.m. that day, an argument ensued near their residence between Luis's father and his neighbors, 31-year-old Catherine Treadway and her boyfriend, 35-year-old Juan Davis. Juan leaves and returns minutes later with two friends who then exit the vehicle and fire numerous shots at the Diaz's car before fleeing from the scene. Luis, who was inside the vehicle with his parents and 11-month-old sister, sustained a gunshot wound to the back of the head after a round entered through the window. Immediately after the shooting, police received multiple 911 calls from residents of the area and Luis's father, who had also been shot in the foot. >> 911 operator here, speaking. Get them all safe in the house. Police and EMS respond to transport the victims for treatment. Tragically, Luis succumbed to his injuries during the transport. Officers interview witnesses before moving to confront Catherine and her boyfriend. Who Who shot you? I don't know because we were We were all in the car in the in the driveway talking and somebody just came by and started shooting. I didn't get the a good look or nothing cuz I had to jump they in a car? Yeah, I think Yeah, I think they were in a car. What kind of car? I didn't get to see because I we were we were talking face-to-face and they just came by and they started shooting and they got my son. But I didn't get a good look at it cuz I was trying to take cover. They were all in the car. I was outside of the car talking and somebody just came by. I didn't get a chance to look at them or anything. Which way were they going? They were coming down this way and went up that way. And which way did they turn? I didn't get a chance to see. I hopped in the car so Then when then when they left is when I seen my son got shot. So, let me finish I was in a car. Who's the mama there? I had to change my report and then I will log in. With Catherine apprehended, a larger team of officers moves in to arrest Juan, who is suspected of possessing multiple illegal firearms. Juan's other two associates, 18-year-old Jayden Sorenson and 30-year-old Devonte Parker, were subsequently arrested on later dates for their involvement in the shooting. Katherine, who had the audacity to plead not guilty for her crimes, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for one count of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of attempted murder, one count of felonious assault, and one count of having weapons under disability. Juan and Devonte were both sentenced to life in prison on two counts of murder, six counts of felonious assault, three [music] counts of attempted murder, one count of involuntary manslaughter, and one count of prohibited discharge of a firearm. And finally, Jayden, who was the youngest of the group, was sentenced to 15 in prison for one count of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of attempted murder, one count of felonious assault, and one count of improperly handling a firearm.
