i 394 coming from downtown minneapolis we've got a wrong way driver it was first reported by local news anchor jason derucha who said he had his own very close call with the vehicle police working urgently to catch up to this 2020 jeep wrangler with no tail lights unfortunately this did result in a deadly crash we'll give you a warning before we get to that part which is at the end of the video but police are following alongside the vehicle and put a spotlight on it to try to enhance visibility for oncoming drivers our policy is to generally not publish fatal crashes unless they involve particularly egregious driver conduct or considerable news this qualifies in both areas there was considerable local coverage of this and of course driving the wrong way on the freeway possibly drunk clearly egregious egregious driver behavior and seeing real world videos like this might help us all become more aware and informed drivers ourselves again you can see those tail lights off traveling at freeway speeds thankfully that car was able to get out of the way there at the last minute but not a particularly easy to see vehicle even with the police following along with that spotlight we've posted several videos of wrong way drivers on minnesota highways and have a dedicated playlist at the end of this video so you can see for yourself what these drivers are really like and recently we posted video of a state trooper trying to stop a wrong way driver by bumping them and some people apparently thought the officer was out of line so this is a video which shows what happens if you just can't quite stop a wrong-way driver in time we were going to do analysis of the force and vehicles involved and indeed the larger mass of the jeep played a role against a smaller car and also the car was older and received a marginal safety rating from the iihs and the jeep is much newer and has good safety ratings across the board but maybe the bigger story here is the basic facts a 20 year old not even old enough to drink legally is suspected of drunk driving ignoring police causing a deadly crash and then when confronted about the death he allegedly told the troopers sorry bro the 20 year old suspect with an address out of saint anthony was then able to post a hundred fifty thousand dollar bond and has retained a private attorney looking at the video in front of you you can see one squad car staying with the vehicle lighting it up and a second squad working to quickly overtake them now a warning the crash video will start shortly we try to post safety video and facts and let you draw your own conclusions a quick thank you to paul bloom and the fox nine team which was first to note the 20 year old suspect posting a hundred fifty thousand dollar bond and allegedly admitting he had ten drinks and apparently blew a point two bac and it was wcco's jason derucha who first broke news of the crash and captured some of the photos the original source for these traffic camera videos is the minnesota department of transportation mn safety this youtube channel is not associated with any governmental agency we're just volunteers trying to promote public safety and education
