what would you do 12 30 a.m at night and
you've got a wrong way driver coming at
you oh and it just happens they're your
city council member that's him driving
southbound in the northbound lanes on
highway 100 west side of the twin cities
he had reportedly just hit another
vehicle at the top of your screen and
now it appears to be a hit and run let's
recap wrong way driver going through
this stop sign council member hit and
run possibly drunk and now
let's see we sped it up there briefly
now we're back to normal speed looks
like he's also not going to be stopping
for the police now we've got a chase at
least for the moment and he's got his
he's driving a grand caravan and his
headlights are off now he's going to go
head on we've got the police there and a
city bus i know he snuck by that first
squad but police were able to swarm the
area which is going to help limit the
risk to oncoming drivers and the silver
lining here is he's clearly traveling
below freeway speed and i'm sure this
police squad thought about more
aggressively trying to stop the vehicle
but with the bus being right there i'm
sure that put some caution in their mind
ultimately they did attempt kind of a
light pit
as the minivan snuck past this next
camera angle shows a really good police
response to the situation multiple
squads on scene and the last squad is
going to gently put them into the
railing stopping their forward
progression
the police report notes the driver did
not follow commands and was physically
removed from the vehicle despite
pressured to resign he had this to say
at the next council meeting we'll let
him say it in his own words
understand
why there are people on this council or
people in the community that are calling
for me to resign
you know i
i really think that that is
that's just
that's not the example i want to lead i
i want to show people that you can fall
and pick yourself up
ultimately three charges against him
including a felony charge of flame if
he's convicted of that he cannot serve
on the council
