Being a cop requires you to ensure that every other citizen is abiding by the law and doing the right things. But what happens when the cops themselves start doing foolish things? Here are four different cases where idiot cops realize they're caught. Turn off. I cannot. Sir, please. I know you're aware of our body cam policy and you know I cannot turn off this body, but I'd like to talk to you. This is Captain James Matt French, a seasoned member of the Oklahoma City Police Department, having dedicated 32 years to the force. In a twist of fate over a recent weekend, French found himself on the other side of the law he had long sworn to uphold. Early Sunday morning, fellow officers observed an unmarked city-owned SUV making erratic maneuvers, swerving and speeding along South May Avenue. The vehicle driven by French eventually veered into a private driveway on SW Grand Blid, a place French claimed as a residence shared with his mother. Stay in your vehicle. Back in your car. I'm drunk. No, I'm the captain. Huh? Captain. A what? Captain of what? The big Don't reach in your pocket. Get back in your car. 116. Show me 106 on Henry Lincoln Edward 497 at Have a seat. I I will. I'm not. You been drinking tonight? I just got a ride. You've been drinking tonight, sir? I'm a captain on the police department. What police department? Oklahoma City. [Music] What division? Investigations. What are you doing pulling in here? My mom and I stay here. You've been [Music] drinking. As the cop asks the drunk captain a few questions, you can see the panic on his face. And at one point, he even asks the cop to do something that might help him get out of trouble. How much we had to drink tonight, sir? Please. Huh? Turn the camera off. I'm not turning my camera off. Okay. After being asked multiple times and hoping that the captain would stop asking him, the cop has to tell him that he won't be turning his camera off. Go ahead and step out of the vehicle. You got to be kidding me. Yeah, we're not going to get a return on it. How much we drink tonight, sir? I was at a poker game. Uh-huh. Cuz you were swerving all over. When you turn off, you didn't use your signal. I'm sorry. How much you drink at your poker game? Not much. Not much. The cop realizes that the captain is completely hammered. So, he goes ahead and tries to do a few sobriety tests. But let's just say this doesn't go too well for the captain. Look straight ahead. And you see the tip of my pin, sir? I do. I want you to follow the tip of my pin without moving your head. Okay? Don't move your head, sir. I'm going to demonstrate for you first. While I'm demonstrating, I want you to stand with your feet together, hands down by your side, just like this. All right, sir. What's your name? Matt French. Matt French. Mr. French, stand just like that for me. Okay. When I tell you to begin, when I tell you to begin, okay, I'm just going to demonstrate for you. First, I want you to pick a foot of your choosing. It doesn't matter if it's your left or your right foot. I'm here. And I want you to lift it approximately 6 in off the ground. And while you look at your toe, I want you to count by 1,00 1,002,004, 105, so on and so forth until I tell you to stop. At any point in time you lose your balance or your foot touches the ground, just go ahead and pick your foot back up and continue to count. Okay? Do you understand these instructions I've explained to you, Mr. French? You may begin. Once the captain realizes there is no way he is getting through these tests, he goes back to his original request of getting the cop to side with him. Sir, can you turn that off? I cannot, sir. Please. I know you're aware of our body cam policy and you know I cannot turn off this body, but I'd like to talk to you. I can't be a sir. Please, please. I like to talk to you. Are you going to do the test or not? Will you please talk to me? I'll talk to you once we're done. You can turn it off. You can turn it on. I can turn it off once I'm done with my investigation, sir. Okay. I'm asking you. I'm a captain police department. I understand that, sir. And I am a sergeant on this police officer and I've taken a no oath to uphold the law. I don't show favoritism to anyone regardless. I don't care if you're a gangbanger or the president of the United States. Sir, I'm not asking you for that. If I was to treat you differently than I was to treat like some Southside loco or some pedto, how's that look on me? Okay. I'm not asking for that cuz I wouldn't do that for any of them. The cop decides to give the captain one last chance before taking action. All right, you may begin. 1 2 3 4 Please please. I'm asking you. I can't do that. Okay. So, we're not going to do the test. We will. Okay. Cuz you keep stopping. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 [Applause] 9 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 All right, go ahead and turn around for me. Put your hands behind your back. Are you going to arrest me, sir? Yes, I am. Can I talk to you? Go ahead. Put your hands behind your back, sir. Can we turn the camera off now? Yeah, we'll turn the camera off now. Thank you. The incident culminated in French's arrest and subsequent booking into the Oklahoma County Detention Center, from which he has since been released on bond. In the aftermath, Oklahoma City Police Chief WDE Gurley commended the responding officer for his professionalism and adherence to protocol, emphasizing the department's commitment to impartiality, regardless of rank or position. At least the worst thing that this captain did was get drunk. The next case gets even crazier. Oh my god, I knew it. I thought they were freaking out. That's the weed spell right there, too. These are a bunch of Baltimore cops who ended up getting caught planting drugs. On November 29th, 2016, Baltimore police officers stopped Shamir Collins, a 35-year-old resident of Baltimore, Maryland, alleging they smelled marijuana emanating from her vehicle. The subsequent search of her car led to a shocking discovery, according to officers. Bags of heroin and marijuana, resulting in Collins facing serious charges for felony distribution of narcotics. However, a twist in her case emerged with the release of body camera footage by Baltimore defense attorney Josh Eninsley on a recent Tuesday. [Applause] Get it up. Oh, well, ma'am. Is this car registered in I mean released in your name? Is it leased in your name? Yeah, I was going to [Applause] Whose phone is this? Is this yours? Yeah, it should be two phones. Okay. No, I know. Let me do the back of this. You do the trunk, Keith. Under the spare tire. Yep. Is your license in here? [Applause] The initial footage from the cop's body cam shows that absolutely nothing suspicious could be found, but then something happens to the cameras. Anybody on? Yeah, I just turned on. You're not supposed to. Did anybody check this compartment here [Applause] yet? Well, here you go. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Oh my god. I knew it. I thought they were freaking out. That's the weed smell right there, too. Freaking out. Oh, these are like little fives. Yeah. These little small bags. And here's something. Hey, I'm going to go hot just for this recovery and everything. Yeah. Yeah. But I've been off cuz I wasn't obviously hiding. We get sergeant. Hey, we're good. God, don't kill you. Have me all nervous. [Applause] You want to call them? Make sure they know that. Go 62. Keep pushing. Yeah. Reach up. Reach up under there deep, man. I'm still I'm still on, by the way, too. Are you still on? Yeah. Okay. The body cams seem to turn off for 30 minutes and then they conveniently turn on once another cop comes to check the car again. Anybody check this? Oh my god. I knew it. I thought you were freaking out. That's the weed smell right there. Oh, these are little fives. She had a matching five in the pocket. Jack, these little small bags here. Hey, I'm going to go hot just for this. I've been off because obviously Hey, we're good. You guys, I'mma kill you. Have me all nervous. You want to call them? Make sure they know that. I'm going to call right now. Uh, let go. 1062. Keep looking. Yeah. Reach up. Reach up under there. Deep, man. I'm still I'm still on, by the way, are you still on? Yeah. Okay. That's That's definitely the bag. Cuz when he opened it, I saw green and I was like I kind of thought if it's big enough for me to see, it must be it must be weed. That was going to be a weed. Yeah. So many good jobs. So I think I took credit for being an idiot. Think that's everything. The fallout from the video's release has been significant. The Baltimore City States Attorney's Office has referred two officers to internal affairs and postponed all cases involving them. Furthermore, five cases have been dismissed, including Collins's, as the credibility of the evidence has been called into question. But the next case is even crazier, as the cop is taken to jail immediately. You, sir, are a disrespect to our profession this evening. If you say it one more time, I'm going to hold you in custody and make you tell the judge in the morning that you have a law enforcement ID. You're a disgrace right now. So, you need to shut your damn mouth before I call your supervisor and we go from there and you don't lose your job in California while you're visiting Arizona. This is Drew Scott Romo from the Roseville Police Department. On the night of November 14th, 2020, the Scottsdale Police Department had their hands full with Romo due to his disruptive behavior across multiple venues. The evening's turmoil began at Whiskey Row, where Romo, exhibiting signs of excessive intoxication, was removed for becoming aggressive and confrontational with security personnel. Not deterred, Romo attempted to continue his night across the street at Elfe, only to be denied entry for the same reasons. His aggression did not Wayne. Instead, he escalated his confrontations, screaming at security staff, which prompted police intervention. When confronted, Drew kept claiming that he's on the cop's side. But you need to go. Let's go. You need to go. They don't want you here, so you have to go. It's simple. If you don't want to be in trouble with us, just go. That's it, dude. I'ming on your side. They don't want you at the business, so you need to go. I'm on your side. I get that. But they don't want you. You guys are [ __ ] brutal. Hey. Hey. I'm on your side, bro. We understand what you do, but you need to you need to I'm a law enforcement. Okay. You need to understand. Hey. Hey. You want to have a conversation? Come here. What did he do? Huh? What did he do? You want to be a California cop and be and you want a chest mus? You can go ahead and do that. And guess where you're going to end up? In my [ __ ] jail. Yeah, I want to know where. You can either calm down and go home. What am I doing wrong? You're too intoxicated. You're trying to pick fights with people. Every club has asked you to leave. What club? Every club you've gone to. On what? What am I doing? I've removed you twice from two different clubs. Do you not understand that? What am I 60? I don't know what that is. That's California code. I don't know that 602 res. I don't know what that is. What am I trespassing on? This place kicked you out on what? resume. You're not even hearing me. I'm trying to keep you from going to jail. I'm understanding. What am I? You're not understanding anything. I'm trying to What? What are they? What is What is the hard part about just going home so you don't get into trouble? No, I'm trying to understand. What are they kicking me out for? You're too intoxicated in the state of Arizona. Listen to me for one second. Get it your head right here. Okay. You had too much to drink and you're not processing anything anymore. Arizona law requires that if the bar realizes you're too intoxicated, they must remove you within 30 days. You've been removed. There's no public law. You don't have that here in state. They're kicking you out because you're inside the establishment toxic. That's a state law. They're removing you. They're obligated by law to remove you asking. Holy cow. I'm in [ __ ] Arizona. Yes, you are. You scared. That's what I explained to you multiple times. The cop in charge even goes around and asks others. All of them seem to confirm that Drew was indeed being quite disrespectful when he was at the lines. He kept on hitting the bouncer's hand when he was trying to get through the bouncer. Just kept on brushing him off. So, hey, when he was at the front, they said that he was knocking the hand away, trying to get in and stuff. Yeah. I was he kept getting like and I was like, "Hey, just without a mask." Was he hand How many times did you say he was knocking the hand away off you? 10 15. You saw it 10 times. I was just like completely just being Yeah, right here, bro. You got like really close and I was like, "Hey, hold a little personal space, bro. Push it. Push it." And I was like, "All right. You want to be a victim?" Cool. You're too. I'm going to go home. I'm going to go home. Oh, now you're going to go home. You just said you didn't want to go home. Now you want to go home? Are you serious? Now you want to go home. Let's sit him down. Dude, I have aing law enforcement ID. And seems like no matter what the cops said, Drew only has one defense statement. So, you So, you close your mouth and let us do our job now cuz you can't make adult decisions. My job is to take you to jail now cuz you can't be an adult. Have a seat. I have your Have a seat. Okay. Have a seat. Sit down. Hold on. Sit down. Sit down. Yes. Kick your feet out. I really don't know what. Kick your feet out. I have a [ __ ] law enforcement ID in my wallet. There's a protocol. It is. I'm not trying to hurt you. No, man. The the issue is I have a ID. Take my wallet. The cop then interviews some more citizens as well to get their statements. Can I grab your name real quick? Like just looking at me and I was like is there like a problem? Yeah. And he was like uh there's going to be a problem. I was like a problem. And then that's when he turned around started talking to him and pushing him. Yeah. Do you mind if I just get your guys' name real quick? You're not You don't have to do it. It just is going to help. He's claiming to be a police officer in California. So obviously it's going to be a bigger deal or not. You don't want to? Yeah, I'm good. I would rather not if I don't have to. I mean, yeah, I'm good. I'm not going to make you I'll just ident. How's that? Justice. What is it? Justice. What's your first name? Daniel. Daniel. What's your first name? Isaiah. Anything bud? I do not, sir. I'm going to work on a citation. All right. I don't want to do this. That's okay. And turns out this was not Drew's only encounter with the cops. This was our check subject at Elfe and then our check subject at International. Oh, so you And then we rode away and now we're out with them for the third time this evening. We've given you so many. We already talked. Do you know that you already talked to us tonight? Do you know that? Yeah. Do you you remember that? I do. How long ago was that? Minutes. minutes ago we talked to you. How about a couple hours ago when you refused service into another bar and we told you to go home. Just go home. It's time to go home. You can't get into any more bars. Your buddies asked you to leave and you would not leave and you walked off on your own and they left you. But it's a bar. You're being arrested for assault and disorder of condom. Are you [ __ ] kidding? I'm not kidding you, sir. I have five people that provided me the exact same statement about you trying to physically assault them and then watch you physically assault the bouncer by swatting his hand away. They noted at least 10 times. The security guard noted at least 15 times. Okay. My charge. Uh your charge again for the third time, sir, is assault. Third time? Yes, sir. I'm being charged the third time. You're being charged with assault and disorderly conduct. Hey, dude. Disorderly conduct as in 415 or correct. 415 a 415 a uh maybe just 415. What's my We have different statutes though. Remember that. What's my other charge? I'm confused by your question. What's my other charge? Assault 245 perhaps. Yeah. What? 123A1. Got him. What's my other charge? Disorderly conduct, dude. Disorderly conduct. Correct. 450. 415 a y misdemeanor. Yep. Both are misdemeanors. Can you contact uh I'd love to contact somebody. Who can I contact? Can you contact Sergeant uh Sergeant Tabets? Yeah. Is he in your phone? He's in Plaster County uh uh sick. Is his information in your phone? No, I don't have my phone. After asking for some slack because of being an officer, the cop in charge helps out by loosening up Drew's cuffs, but not removing them completely. Can I chill out or no? I don't know what that means, man. Can I hang out in custody without being in cuffs? No, you you have to be in handcuffs for me. Can you at least loosen them? Okay, I just loosened this one and I'm going to I'm going to I can't feel I can get my whole finger in this handcuff. I can't feel that. I I can assure you that I am. Let me loosen this one. Stop moving around. And despite being told what Drew's charge is, he keeps bothering other officers about it. My my advice to you is just sit down, be quiet. Totally. That's what I'm doing. That's what I'm trying to do. But I'm also trying to understand the charge. And I'm also told you can charge tell me the charge though, sir. They didn't tell me I'm telling it to you right now. I appreciate you telling me this conduct assault. Okay. I appreciate you with disorderly conduct cuz you charge me with assault. I'm probably going to get terminated. I understand that. I appreciate you telling me that cuz I didn't understand that. Nobody told me that. So, I appreciate you trying to do a solid and just I appreciate that. I appreciate that. All right. One, two, three. Just right here. No, I'm doing that. Uh, just on the side right here. Everybody coming in. Eventually, Drew was removed from the scene, but seems like he still could not settle down, even when in a cell. What's up, man? I can't breathe anymore. [Music] Okay. a prisoner. Well, sir, at this current time, you are in a jail facility, and the correct term probably would be prisoner. Um, however, we're trying to get you released, but you're not showing any signs of sobering up that allows us to believe that you can go out and act accordedly in society. From what I understand, you're dialing 911. You're continuously breathe, sir. You're continuously banging on the jail cell doors because I can't breathe. I have anxiety. Oh, I'm completely understand the anxiety part. I am sobering up. What do you want me to do? Well, I can't breathe in here. I understand that. I am ordered to inform you of this information. Upon your release, you are ordered to call Lieutenant Scott Blind and I will provide you his phone number. Okay. And you are ordered to call him immediately upon your release to report your actions. All right, my man. You got to help us out, too, being a police officer. What do I need to do? Not call 911. I'm call 911 cuz I can't breathe. Okay. Do you remember the No one's answering my call. You're treating me like aing prisoner, which I get, but I'm You got to give me something. I can't breathe. Okay, sir. I'm done. Do you have any questions for me besides I'm asking how do I get out of this? He just told you. Eventually, Drew was given the chance to talk to someone. he knew to help him get out of his situation. Take a nap. Close your eyes. I'm not going to take a nap. All right, man. Until you until you stop banging on the jail doors and down my lieutenant right now. I um How do I get out as soon as possible? You know what? Fair enough. Why don't you How does he work that self that that phone? Okay, let me give you the number to call and you can call your lieutenant right now. I have it right here on this. Yes. Go ahead, Glass. If you want to intro it, it's Lieutenant Blind. B L Y N. [Music] Lieutenant Glenn, this is Once Drew sobered up and stopped banging on the jail cell door, he was given a ride back home. But unfortunately for him, his behavior caused him to lose his position just 4 days after his initial arrest. for about five or six seconds. Hard, hard, hard, hard, hard. This is Deputy Adam Zitzelberger, a dedicated officer within the Jackson County Sheriff's Department's Criminal Investigation Division, hailing from Newport, Arkansas. On the night of September 17th, Zitelberger found himself in a compromising situation that would challenge the integrity of his badge. While on the roads of Arkansas, Zitzelberger exhibited dangerous driving behavior, swerving erratically enough to catch the attention of a vigilant Arkansas state trooper. The encounter that followed would reveal a stark deviation from the principles expected of law enforcement officials. On immediate inspection, the cop could tell that the deputy was really drunk. You're not good. You're not good. Step out here with me. Step out here with me. on your back. You're in terrible shape, huh? You're in terrible shape. You're drunk. You're really drunk. So, I'm going to be out here 13. People calling in saying you've been running all over the road. I get in behind you, get you speeding and you're all over the road. You're drunk. You're really bad. I'm not really 100% buddy. Yeah, you are real bad, too. It's not just a little bit. I really really hate you put me in this position. Okay. understand. The cop repeatedly tells the deputy that he is intoxicated and inquires if there is someone who could get his car for him. Can you give us the number so get your [Music] vehicle? Got a second up here. Come on up here. Adam, I've been doing this a long time and I know I know you know it, but I'm telling you right now before I even go very far, you're very intoxicated. Obvious you can't drive with the flip and you can't walk. After no proper responses, the cop gives benefit of the doubt to the deputy and offers him a test. All right. Do you want to take a breath test? You want to take a PBT test? Take a deep breath and blow hard for about five or six seconds. Hard, hard, hard, hard, hard. We are just a.19 49. The PBT gives a rating of 0.19 whereas the usual acceptable rating is of 0.08 making the deputy's rating two times more than the acceptable highest rating. Who going to call? Who can a call from your phone? They can be here quick. Come get your car. Anybody else? I don't know who that is. Is that somebody in close? Yeah. Or do you want me to call somebody come get your car? Huh? Do you want me to call somebody come get your car? [Applause] After getting someone who could take care of his car, the deputy is taken in custody. No, I'm just your phone call. No, I'm good. The fallout from that night's events was swift. Zitzelberger found himself before Jackson County District Judge Barbara Griffin on October 23rd where he entered a guilty plea to charges of driving while intoxicated. Zitzelberger was then suspended. A lot of cops tend to think they're above the law, but seeing them get brought to justice does restore a bit of faith into the justice system. But unfortunately, there are still many crooked cops that get away by doing unlawful things. But we can only hope to catch them one at a time.
