WHERE'S MY MOM? DON'T TOUCH ME. >> DON'T TOUCH ME. >> GIVE me your hand, MISS. >> NO, STOP TOUCHING ME. >> I know. >> Please. >> Nobody's telling you. Listen, Paul. Dude, Paul. Paul, you're already caught in whatever you're doing, so just talk about it. >> Underrest. >> For what? For what? >> Most people pay for items with their hard-earned money, but some people think they're entitled to steal whatever they want. But these fraudsters get the surprise of their life when they're caught in the act by the cops. In Louisiana, a credit union called police after a woman was suspected of trying to cash a fraudulent check worth $50,000. The employees there continued talking to the suspect until the cops arrived. >> Miss Spain, can you come talk to me, please? >> Okay, good. >> We'll step right in there if you don't mind. You can have a seat right there if you want. So, I'm Detective Weekly with the Couchberry Sheriff's Office. I'm a I'm a financial crimes detective. I have a case where your name has come up. It's a case number 24-3117. It's a bank fraud case. [music] >> Yeah, that's what I'm coming up here for. >> You're coming up here for some bank fraud stuff? >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. So, before I ask you any questions, I have uh I have a form that I'd like you to sign. Miranda Wright's form. So, I just need to fill out some information on it and then we'll get right into it. >> The female suspect here looked very uneasy. She claimed she'd only come to the credit union to find out what was happening on her account. She denied trying to withdraw or deposit anything in the bank, but the interview was interrupted when her mother stepped in. >> Ma'am, you can step outside. >> Please step outside. >> Mom, just step out. I don't I'm trying to figure out the same thing. >> If you interfere in my investigation, I will place you under arrest. >> Please step outside. She's She's an adult. She's an adult. >> Okay. But you don't have to disrespect my mom anymore. >> Step outside, ma'am. And you don't have to. And I'm going to tell you, you don't have to disrespect my mom neither. >> I'm not going to ask you again >> at the same time. Like that's that's that's what I'm here for. Just mom, close the door. Please close the door. >> Her mother continued lingering, staring at the officer through a small window. The officer, realizing things might escalate, called for additional units to come help him secure things. >> It's none of her business. >> It is her business. >> It's not. >> It is. >> You are an adult. >> It doesn't matter. And that's still my mother. Can you please lower your voice? >> I don't have to lower anything. >> Okay. >> Anyways, ma'am, like I was saying that I was looking in my account cuz I had did a a flash loan or something like that. >> Yeah. And they called me earlier and so I was like, well, I don't my debit card got lost. So, I was like, I need another debit card. So, I told them that I would be coming up there to get another one. So, that's what I went to do. And then that's when she told me that I needed to speak with someone from the wrist department. So, then I came here. >> Okay. >> So, that's what I'm saying. If I wanted to do anything fraud, why why would I walk in here myself? >> The risk department had sent an alert to the suspect about a fraudulent check in the amount of $50,000 that had somehow been deposited in her account. At first, she claimed to know nothing about it. But a little bit later, she changed her story up and blamed someone else. >> It's my cousin had deposited a check into my account. That's what I'm saying. It was not me. >> All right, Miss Bane, I have this form. Can you make sure >> I'm not signing nothing until I see everything that you have going on? >> Go ahead and stand up. Go ahead and stand up for me, please. >> Stand up for what? I just want to see what's going on first. I don't want to be arrested for something that I don't even know anything about. THAT'S WHY LOOK, I TRY TO GET you I try to get a statement from you. >> I'm giving you a statement, BUT I DON'T WANT TO KNOW. >> NO, YOU JUST TOLD ME YOU'RE NOT SIGNING ANYTHING, so I can't ask you any questions. >> No, ma'am. You can go ahead and stand up. >> I don't want to be arrested for something that I did. >> It's too late. The decision's already been made. Go ahead and stand up. What am I being arrested for? >> Please stand up. >> Miss Fain, please stand up. >> Can y'all please like tell me? >> I'm not going to ask you again. Please stand up, Miss Fain. >> Sir, >> I was silent. >> It's too late now. >> How is it TOO LATE? YOU DIDN'T GIVE ME A CHANCE TO TALK. >> DO NOT RESIST. Do not pull away. >> Sir, stop touching me. >> Stop. You didn't GIVE ME A CHANCE TO TALK. NO. >> STOP TOUCHING ME. >> STOP TOUCHING ME. >> YOU BETTER >> STOP TOUCH. I'M TELLING YOU, STOP. STOP TOUCHING ME. >> AND just like that, she most likely racked up additional charges. The officer here was not going to let the woman manipulate him. As he continued trying to handcuff this combative woman, he let the additional units know that the situation was tense and could get out of control. >> WHERE'S MY MOM? DON'T TOUCH ME. >> DON'T TOUCH ME. >> GIVE ME YOUR HAND. >> NO. >> COANTE, give me your hand. >> Do not UNDER ARREST. >> ARREST FOR WHAT? I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING. GIVE ME your hand. >> I DID NOT DO ANYTHING. >> Miss Bane, >> I didn't, sir. I didn't. >> You are under arrest. >> Miss Bane, you were under arrest. >> Please. Where's my mom? Can you get my mom? >> You were under arrest. >> Can you GET MY MOM? STOP TOUCHING ME. I'M AT THE BANK TRYING TO GET ANOTHER CARDIST. AND THEY CAME in here. A A SHERIFF OR SOMETHING came up in here TALKING ABOUT I'M UNDER ARREST FOR BANK FRAUD. I DIDN'T even do anything. >> Miss Bane, YOU'RE A MURDERER. >> NO, I'M NOT. DON'T TOUCH IT. >> YES, you are. NO, I'M NOT. DON'T TOUCH ME. >> CRYSTAL, please help. >> Bane, you were under arrest. >> You can figure all this stuff out later. >> Everyone in the office could hear her screaming and they were growing concerned. Soon after, another officer arrived and that's when they decided that unfortunately she'd have to be physically confronted. >> Stop touching me. Come on, BABY. DON'T DO THAT. >> Don't do that. My mama. >> Okay, I'm going to GET YOUR MAMA. PUT YOUR MAMA in your hand. >> I'mma get your mama. You just [screaming] >> You got cuss. >> I didn't do anything. >> Okay. Well, we going to >> We going to figure this out. >> That's what I was trying to do. >> Okay. Well, unless we going to DO THAT, BUT STOP. GET HIM OFF OF ME. SIR, CAN YOU PLEASE GET ME OFF? I DON'T WANT HIM TOUCHING ME. >> SO, DID YOU HIT MY CHILD THOUGH, SON? >> NO, but she hit me. >> Okay, >> it's on body camera. You can get a copy of the video from the sheriff's office. Please don't approach me. >> Tell him to get away from me. Like, seriously. >> Tell me just just calm down. >> Don't do nothing. THAT'S ALL I TRIED TO TELL HIM. >> ALL RIGHT. >> THEY secured the suspect in the back of a cruiser. The officer then approached a man named Felton Charles. Earlier, the man had driven the suspect and her mother to the credit union. He also matched the picture of a man who helped deposit that fraudulent check. >> Sir, can you look at me, please? >> What? Can Can I get your name? >> Belton Charles. >> You want to give me a statement? >> Statement? >> Yeah. Yeah, I don't even know what's going on. She asked for a ride to the bank. I can't >> Well, uh a check was deposited into uh into her account >> and uh is a fake check. >> The man claimed the suspect asked for a ride and he offered to drive her to the bank. He denied having any knowledge of the fraud. Charles basically said that he knew nothing, but then the officer confronted the man with a video surveillance picture that showed he was a part of the transaction. >> Is my name on there? Anything? I don't have nothing to do with that. Wait, what about that? Let me see that. Is that you? >> No, that ain't me. >> It looks like you. >> No, they ain't. Well, do what you want to do. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Let's ride. Let's ride. I don't have time for this. You keep on asking me something. I'm telling you. SHE ASKED FOR A RIDE to the bank. I can't give her a ride to the bank. How many statements you want me to give you? I'm getting upset with you. I'm yelling cuz he pissing me off. You keep on asking me the same thing over and over and over. >> If you want if you want to talk to him about a case, >> I don't know nothing about a case. He asking me to give him a statement. >> Talk with him about it. >> For what? I don't know. I just told him what I know. >> You want to talk about I'll tell you I'll tell you what. >> You ask me. Do I want to give him a statement? I just gave her a statement. She asked for a ride to the bank. I can't even. >> Mr. Charles, Mr. Charles, I'll tell you what. This is this is what we'll do. >> You trying to manipulate me right now? That what you really trying to do? No, man. Look, >> all I did was ask if you wanted a statement. I tell you what, if you decide you want to give me a statement concerning that check, you give me a call. Okay. >> The man seemed adamant that he wanted no involvement in the investigation. It was unclear whether Charles was protecting the suspect or himself. The officer waited for an additional unit to arrive because the suspect had hit the officer and photographs were needed to document it. >> And that's the mom over there. >> She did that to your eye. >> It's it's it's part of the job. I I completely understand it shouldn't have happened. Um but I I understand the position she was in. But the way he talked to me when I was trying to figure out like >> he was just saying I was interrupting. But I really I guess he was just it was all a part of >> So I've been doing this job for 10 11 years now. Usually whenever a family member comes and and sees a cop talking to their their family member like a daughter and they come interrupt. I'd like to be as respectful as possible, but her being an adult, it's nobody else's business. If she wants to tell you after I'm done talking to her, >> that's that's her decision. >> Just look at how she messed up the officer's face. The officer showed his good character by remaining calm and treating everyone respectfully even after being attacked by the woman. The suspect was taken to jail and was charged with attempted bank fraud and resisting using violence. On March 27th, 2024 in Florida, investigators discovered that a woman named Destiny Harris was working full-time for the city while also filing numerous false unemployment claims. The cops got the woman's address and went right to her house to pay her a visit. >> Hello. >> Hi, >> Destiny. >> Um, what's going on? >> Are you Destiny? >> We have a couple people here. >> Okay. >> Inquiry. [music] >> I'm at the residential room. There's something going on. >> Is are you Destiny? [clears throat] >> Uh, no ma'am. >> Okay. Can I speak with Destiny, please? >> Ask for disregard. Casper, quiet. Can I ask this regarding please? >> Are are you Destiny? Can I inquire like what it's for and then I can make a consensus if you don't mind? >> I'm asking you your destiny. [music] Are you Destiny? >> No, ma'am. >> Okay. Is Destiny here? >> No, ma'am. >> Huh? >> You're Destiny, right? >> Would you mind if I just made a quick phone call? >> Listen, we just want to talk to you real quick. It's kind of weird when you're holding the door like >> because they have the dogs and I just want >> That's why we're asking. I don't want to get bit by a dog. just my comfort and like my just for my own >> I can hang out out here. We can hang out out here. She just wants to talk to you a little bit. >> Okay. Would you mind just for my own comfort and like [music] this is not my home and I could step out for you all. >> It's just odd that on a on a Wednesday [music] that this has happened. We don't know what's going on. >> Well, it's just working. We >> No, I get it. I understand. Before confronting the woman, the cops did their research and came prepared. By checking bank records and IP addresses, as well as talking to the woman's employer, the investigators discovered that between April 2020 and February 2021, she collected over $16,000 in unemployment checks. >> Just for [music] my own safety, like do you all have a warrant or anything like that? >> I need you to answer me first. Are you Destiny Harris? >> No, ma'am. >> Okay. I [snorts] don't I don't believe what you're telling me. I know that you're destiny. So, I'm asking you to come outside for a second. Speed with us. Thank you. >> Could you just give me one second to grab my telephone? It's right behind the table. >> Door open while you grab and you can come and make the phone call out here. We'll let you make the phone call, but we do have to call. >> Destiny went inside and grabbed her cell phone. And when she came back out, she called her mother. She kept her mother on speakerphone for the entire duration of the officer's interview. >> What is going on? I have no idea. Okay. So, there is a warrant for your arrest. Okay. >> Oh my gosh. >> So, that's what that's what we're here for. So, I would like to explain more to you and actually sit down and have a conversation with you. Um, but in the meantime, we do need to take you back with us. And because you have your mom on the phone, that's why I'm explaining this to you. >> Um, so that she knows what's going on also. >> Okay. >> Okay. Um, she won't tell you what the warrant's for. >> It's for fraud. >> It's for what? >> It's for fraud. But like I said, we'll go back and and sit down and actually I'll tell you. I'll let you >> Yeah, please. >> I'll explain all the charges. Exactly. >> Okay. >> But just because you have her on the phone, that's the only reason why I'm explain my mom. That's fine. >> Okay. Um, can you give your phone to um [music] somebody and then I'm gonna call Jette and then I'll call uh I'll call uh Vinnie I mean not Vinnie. Um uh Gary right now to see to get details. >> Um okay. I'm in the middle. I need to tell my boss. I'm not telling my boss that obviously >> because of Destiny's evasiveness when they first knocked on her door and the fact that she lied about her identity. The cops suspected she was just playing dumb. It was just a lousy tactic to try and get out of trouble or at the very least to delay her impending arrest. >> I work for the federal government myself, so there's for me for my job security and my children. >> Are you working right now? >> Yeah, I'm in I'm in a meeting like right now. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. So, I'm going to give you that courtesy and we don't normally do that. So, go ahead and make a phone call to your boss and let him know that >> you're going to be, I guess, out for the rest of the day at least. [snorts] >> What the is going on? Do you have all the context for like what's going on or like what's >> close the door? I don't want my children to like hear that. >> If there were unsupervised children inside, the cops were a bit worried about closing the door. Destiny said the children's father was inside and could watch the kids. Destiny's mother then called her back with more information. >> I can't go to jail. Mom, I understand. You have to go. I don't know what's going on, but you can't fight it. Yeah. >> I know that. I can't do that. >> I'm going to call the attorney. You have to go with them. I mean, Delg [snorts] people, believe me. You have to go with them. I'll call J. I'm going to call Barry to see what the charges are and we'll go from there. Okay. Just be calm, but you do not say anything until your attorney gets here. You are not to say not one thing. Do you understand? >> Yes, Mom. I understand. >> You have no idea what it's for. >> Mom, I have no idea. I wouldn't be sitting here right now. I'm literally driving around and walking the streets and going to Trader Joe's as if I'm a free person. Um, I need to tell >> All right. No statistics. How about arrested? >> Okay. Yeah, there's a warrant. So, um, obviously you got the kids and everything and I'm going to have her leave her stuff with me. >> Considering the husband just found out that his wife was getting arrested, he was pretty calm. It could have been an indication that he saw this coming. Destiny then called her boss to inform him she had to leave work. >> Ballpark. >> Hope everything's fine. >> Thank you. I have to go like right now, so I can't even give you context, but I'm logging out for the day. and if you could just like put utto in for me so that I can at least you know get paid and whatnot. Um but I I have to step away like now. >> Okay. >> I don't even know what to tell them. Like what do people >> just tell them that you're coming back to talk to us about >> embarrassing one thing it's going to be tomorrow when it's night. I don't want you know [snorts] >> it's not even like I can say oh mommy has a work trip and I travel for work sometimes. >> Would you mind cuping here? >> That's why I said we can go right between the cars over here. >> Destiny was charged with organized scheme to defraud and making a false statement to obtain unemployment benefits. She was sentenced to 4 years probation, 75 hours of community service, and was also ordered to pay $16,525 in restitution. An 88-year-old man gave over $100,000 to people who claimed they were Microsoft tech support. They told the man they were fixing his computer, so that's why he had to pay. On October 6th, 2023, after realizing he might be being scammed, this elderly man went to the police station to file a report. >> Did they ask you to download some software onto your computer? >> Yeah. >> So, they did take control of it because he was able to move the mouse and it correct. >> Yeah. >> How they m >> So, so they did have complete control of that computer. So, did you open any bank accounts or did they go into your bank accounts while they were on the computer that you know of? >> See, the guy whom I'm talking to mostly >> Steven Sheffer, he this Microsoft, the guy who says Microsoft, >> right? >> He doesn't call me much. He just called me this morning and said, "Your computer is protected 60%." >> The man also said that it didn't happen all at once. The second time was when the scammers asked him to meet up with one of their employees in person. During that meeting, this elderly man gave the employee a box of cash. While the man was being interviewed by officers, one of the scammers, who went by the name Steven, called the man once again. >> "Hi, Steven." >> Hello. Hello. >> Yes, sir. Can you hear me now? >> Yeah, now I can hear you very well. >> Thank you so much. So, you already back to your home from your appointment? >> Yes. >> And how was your appointment, sir? >> Oh, it went very well. >> Everything is fine. >> Yeah. And uh you know, I'm I'm a diabetic and hypertensive, so it takes a while. I understand sir at this age I understand at this age we used to get lots of disease we can't say at what time we can get what kind of disease but like everything is normal right now or like is there anything any serious thing that you're having uh in your health >> Steven pretended to care about the man trying to gain more of his trust. In reality though, it was all just a ploy to make himself seem like a good person who the old man could trust. >> Can you please use your landline and call the shop? >> No. >> And ask them, uh, is my gold ready or not? >> Well, no. I went to the gold shop and I picked up the gold. >> You have already picked up the gold. >> Yeah. On my way back, I actually went to the store and picked up the gold. I have it. >> Okay. Do one thing. Do one thing, sir. Now, first, >> you need to click a clear picture of the gold and send to the same conversation once. Okay. >> That that is all in a in a pack. They nicely packed it and I can't open it. Do you want the whole gold photograph or the box? It is all nicely packed. >> It is nicely packed. >> Let me tell you, sir. >> Uh-huh. >> Hello. >> Yeah. >> Let me tell you what you have to do first. >> Uhhuh. >> You don't need to send you do you don't need to take out each and every coin one by one and send uh the picture to me. No, you need to send a picture through which we can recognize that yes, each and every coin is there in that way. Okay. >> The cops took photos of a closed box and sent it to Steven saying that all the gold he was asking for was inside the box. Steven confirmed he got the picture and then scheduled a meet up so he could collect the gold. >> Can you please tell me like uh how far you are going from your home tomorrow? How far you will be going? Why? Why do you want to know all those things? You are very nosy person. >> Sir, listen to me. We are not going to work according to you. Okay? >> Why? >> You have to work according to the rules and regulations on time. >> No, no, no, no, no. Don't threaten me. >> I am not threaten threatening you, sir. I understand you have to go. I just asked you that are you able to cancel that or are you able to stay at home? You say no. And I do understand. So, we have to fix everything on Monday now, right? >> Okay. Yeah. >> On Monday morning, Steven called the elderly man again and gave him instructions for the drop off. A car would pull up. Another man would give the elderly man a password. And then the elderly man would drop the box of gold into the backseat of the car through the open car window. >> Oh, okay. If whoever is coming can walk up the gate, I can hand it to >> Okay. Okay. Not a not a problem. We will do that for you. Don't worry. Okay. >> Okay. Throughout the day, the cops used a drone to track the scammers movements. The cops also wanted to know if he was collecting more money or gold from other innocent victims or if he was meeting up with other scammers. The cops eventually decided to confront him. Keep coming. Awesome. >> [snorts] >> He coming this way. Not that truck. >> Yeah. >> The man's scammer name was Farhand. The cops took the man to the police station and he was placed in a room for interrogation. Soon after, the investigating officers arrived to interview him. >> Hello. How are you? >> Good. So, >> just have some questions for you just about your uh information or identification. You are you the driver? >> Yes. >> Okay. Are you Are you a citizen? Do you have a passport? [music] >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. Where's that? >> It's home. >> In California? >> Yeah. In California. >> You have a driver's license? >> Yes, I do. You guys came in Arizona yesterday? >> Last night. >> Okay. Why did you guys come to Arizona yesterday? >> So he [music] helps some relative that he they gave him some work to finish. >> So [music] that the whole purpose that I drive him up here. >> Okay. So do you had relatives here? >> No. >> Oh >> on phone he said his relative gave him some work to do >> and then he need to >> collect those files. Farhan, of course, claimed he didn't know anything and that a friend of his, Jeet, asked for a ride to collect packages for Amazon in exchange for $200. Farhan peppered his testimony with erroneous details, including a story about eating breakfast to make it sound more credible. The cops then turned their attention to the other man involved, Farhand's friend, Jeet. >> Driver's license out of India. You have a passport, a US passport or Indian passport? >> Indian passport. >> Indian passport. How long you been here for? for three months. >> Three months. And the Cal whose [music] address is that in California is it? >> It's my address. >> The one that's here. >> Yeah. I came here to meet him and I stayed at his place. >> The guy that's here now, the guy you got arrested with? [music] >> Yeah. >> Are you here on a visa or you just visited? >> Yeah, just visited. It was pivotal for the cops to know all the details, including fully identifying the two suspects. When being interrogated by police, non-citizens have the same rights as citizens, and Jeet seemed to be aware of this when they confronted the man with incriminating facts. >> So, like we said, we want to talk to you about what's going on today. Okay. Can I >> Absolutely. So, you want an attorney present and you don't want to talk to us right now? >> Okay. All right, just a little bit of legal process here for you. This is a search warrant for your phone. And on the back, just I'll just let you look at the whole thing. You get to keep [music] this copy of your property, but the back is signed by the judge. What that does is allows us to obtain all the information that's [music] in your phone. Um, the only problem is, and just full disclosure, is we need your pin code for the phone in order to get into it [music] sooner. We can still get into it, but the problem is it takes sometimes days, weeks for us to get into it through our technology. If you give me the phone, the the PIN willingly, then I can [music] enter the PIN in there. Don't have to wait for it. what's called jailbreaking it and then I can get you your phone back once we obtain the data that the search war [music] okay something you're willing to give me >> okay >> so right now you're going to be transported to the Gilbert Chandler Unified holding facility >> they were both arrested and charged with fraud scheming theft and assisting a criminal syndicate ultimately they were transferred to jail. On the 15th of August 2024 in Florida, a woman was stopped in an airport as she was suspected of using someone else's ID and boarding pass to get onto a flight. When confronted by airport police, surprisingly, she was very forthcoming. >> But for what reason? >> Cuz she was staying with me. >> Okay. >> She was me she was staying with me at my hotel room. >> But why did you present this one to them? Um because uh I only have an expired ID and I didn't know that. I thought I could just I just was using it to fly cuz I because I don't have I >> Which one is this? >> This is my new ID that but my wallet got stolen. >> Oh, okay. >> So that's my old one before that I used to get this one and then my wallet got stolen and so that's why I'm going back to Vegas to get a new ID and stuff. >> So you don't have a Florida deal? >> No. Uh nope. I don't have a Florida uh driver's license right now. >> So where is this one from? Uh, >> that's from Vegas. >> Inside the woman's wallet, they found three ID cards from different states. One of them was her alleged new ID. Another was her expired driver's license, and the third one was her friend's ID. >> I was just using hers to try and get to Vegas because I figured it'd be easier just to I know it was stupid. I'm sorry. It's kind of silly. >> Okay. >> But yeah, it's a friend of mine. >> So, this is expired, right? >> Yeah. That's why I was using her sign. >> I didn't know that caused a problem. I wasn't trying to like evade the law or anything like that. >> Okay. Okay. >> It's silly though. I apologize. >> That's okay. >> The officer had to return to his car to run the information through the system. Since she'd already tried to leave before, airport security informed him that she could not be left unattended. >> Oh, I get it. It looks like I'm trying to like evade a lot or something. Okay. No, I'm not. I just I just thought it'd be safe to see or not. Um instead of having to cuz my I didn't know if you guys would accept an expired ID. >> So here's the deal. I got to go get myself still trying to go because you're going to get yourself in trouble. >> Would I be if uh I have to give you a ticket to fly, right? Um >> yes. >> Would I still be able to fly? >> You're able to fly. It's just uh you know you got to I mean you got to you're flying with the wrong ID number. So that's why >> can I ask can I call my friend and have him cuz he bought the ticket for me. >> For multiple reasons the cop found it suspicious that the woman used her friend's ID. But their main concern was that she was trying to hide her real identity from the airport authorities and as a result the cop asked the woman if she had any outstanding warrants. >> No. Well I have a a warrant in Pennsylvania for a fine but no. >> Is it is active >> um for a fine? I think I might I mean I owe $200 on a fine in Pennsylvania. >> Yeah. But it's you know it's going to be extraable. That's where you >> Oh, no. Not at all. Sorry. >> Okay. >> No, I'm not. No. >> Go ahead. >> Would I be able to call him? >> All right then. For But she's clear, right? >> The woman said her boyfriend bought the ticket for her, but when they pressed her further, she admitted to them that she told her boyfriend to buy it under her friend's name. So, at that point, everything was pretty sketchy. >> Yeah. >> So, >> I told him I figured it'd be easier just to I was kind of stupid, right? >> Yeah. Yeah, >> it was like I asked him I said, "Can you put it under his name?" So, cuz my ID expired cuz he noticed that my wallet got stolen. >> So, he >> he wasn't like trying to uh I don't know pull or anything like >> like I wasn't. I just was honestly just figuring it would be quicker than trying to go to like with an expired ID. I didn't know if you guys would expect accept it is really insane. >> It was also strange that her wallet was stolen yet she still had her expired ID. Nothing she was saying to the officer made any sense. It's like she was grasping at straws to come up with anything at all to try and make herself look innocent. But the more the woman talked, the deeper she dug her hole. >> I said, "I have my friend Bonner's ID. If she looks like me, I figured it would just be easier to just because it's [snorts] not expired." >> Okay. Yeah. >> I was just trying to avoid all >> You can't do that. You know what I mean? It's presenting somebody else's ideas. >> I didn't think I didn't realize it was >> It is a big deal. >> Okay. Well, I'm sorry. I'm just waiting for my supervisor to get here so we can go and figure it out what we're going to do. Okay. But the thing is once you because what you just did right now, >> I don't know if they're going to ban you ban you for flying. >> Okay. And I I hope I'm sorry about that. >> No, come off here for me, please, for a minute. >> I mean, I don't mean to I feel like it's wasting her. You guys have more things to do. >> It was just kind of silly. Really? >> I should just I didn't think that I'd be able to fly with this private. I was going to try and get on because I've had problems flying in the past. So, I was going to try and get on the like the special, you know what I mean? To where cuz I've had issues with uh flying before. >> If she already had problems flying in the past, in the future, she'll clearly have a harder time having this illegal stunt on her wrap sheet. The officer was done with her excuses, so he called the woman out, giving her his thoughts on why she really took her friend's ID. Well, >> I mean, it's an ID. It's just I know you what you did it for because you were worried that you were gonna be, you know, arrested for the warrant. >> Okay. >> I'm not worried about the warrant. >> Right. Yeah. Here. All right. Can you turn around for me, please? >> Yeah. Here. I can >> All right. Go ahead. >> So, you already told me that you knew you made a mistake, right? >> Yeah. >> All right. So basically this is fraud. Okay. >> Okay. >> Presenting somebody else's ID is a penalty for the state of Florida. Okay. Okay. So that's the reason why you're under arrest. >> Okay. So how long am I going to be under? >> I don't know you know. So uh once you get booked they will tell you you know if you're going to have a hearing or you got to have a bunch and all that. >> Can I move my left wrist? Uh like it's kind of hurting. >> All right. >> Hold on. I'm sorry. >> Just don't move. Okay. just let her do that. >> I'm getting arrested for fraud >> for presenting somebody else's ID. >> They charged the woman with fraudulent use of personal information. She somehow thought she could talk her way out of it. She pretended not to realize that stealing someone's identity is a really big deal. And sadly for this woman, the cops here saw right through her lies. On the 17th of January, 2024 in Florida, authorities got a call from a bank saying there was a woman there who was trying to commit fraud. When the cops arrived, they confronted the woman at the counter. >> How you doing, ma'am? >> I'm good. How are you? >> Good. You got an idea on here? >> I don't understand what's going on. I was just depositing and leaving. >> We'll figure out what's going on. >> Thank you, sir. >> Trying to read this to you. ask questions and then bring a moment. All right, you write. Do you want to talk to me or you don't want to talk to me? >> I'll talk to you. >> Okay. So, yes. >> Yes. >> Okay. Your first name is Alma. >> Yeah. >> Is that pronounced right? >> Alma. >> Alma. All right. Elmo. Um, so you came here to deposit a check. Check. You know your name? >> Yeah. Well, it's a it was a money order >> from where? Um, [music] I sold I sold some stuff on eBay. >> I picked it up from uh social media. >> Maybe check out what's your name here locally or where? >> I don't remember exactly where it is. >> Do you is it Cole Springs or >> No, it was in um >> I'm not from around here so I don't really know this house. The woman wouldn't look the officer in the eye and seemed to have a hard time coming up with answers. She claimed she was from Chicago and arrived in Florida the previous Wednesday for a family wedding >> at the um Springs. Oh, >> okay. So, are you staying close to here or >> Yeah, I'm staying your family live where your family live. >> They live in um they live in Miami. I mean, some live in West Palm Beach. still right. >> Okay. So, what brought you to this bank specifically that it's not anywhere near places you're saying? >> What do you mean to what brought me to this bank? >> Yeah. Well, >> well, I came here um last week. So, I just >> what day last week? >> Um Thursday of Friday. >> What Alma didn't know was that the cops knew the information already. The bank had originally been alerted to Alma's behavior after she'd previously withdrawn $9,500 from an account. That account had been flagged already because the owner of the account reported suspicious activity. >> Do you have a good phone number I can reach you at? [music] >> I lost my I lost my um this is my niece's phone. I don't even >> What's your number? >> My number is 630. Um, I don't know cuz I never call myself. >> The cops also wanted to find out what vehicle Alma used to arrive at the bank. This could confirm her identity and also expose anyone else who was involved in the scam. They asked the bank staff if they had access to security cameras, but unfortunately they didn't have access. >> Oh, was this your real name? >> Okay. cuz we're going to fingerprint you and if it comes back to somebody else, you're going to be additionally charged. >> Okay, listen to me. >> If this is not really who you are, we're going to add charge you >> for obstruction because >> you're giving me a false name. So, I need to know if it's actually >> Okay, answer me. Is this your real name? >> Yes, >> sir. Answer me. Where is there something more deposited? >> We'll get into that. How do you know? I know there. >> Okay. Well, you're not afraid to go. So, we're going to fingerprint you to find out who you really are. >> You can't fingerprint me unless I'm under arrest. And we're before what? >> Because >> Because on this count, and we're trying to figure out what's going on with >> Okay, that's >> Do you want to give me your real name or not? >> I'm not I'm not >> It doesn't matter. You don't have >> because >> notice how the woman didn't really deny the fact that she might be lying about her name. When the cops continued pressing her, she became very uncooperative. Earlier, the cop warned her not to use her cell phone. So, when she went to use it again, the officer responded accordingly. >> That gentleman works from the >> You're not going to hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, >> ma'am. >> Wait, wait, wait. Hello. >> Okay. Come on. >> Wait. I don't want to be any Listen. I'm not resisting. I'm not resisting. >> I'm not resisting. >> Please. >> Yes. >> Well, hold on. Let me Let me loosen this up cuz [music] you just way twisted your ribs. You tighten it up on you tighten it up on yourself. So, >> listen. I don't want to go this route. >> Well, you you decided to go that route when I asked you what your real name is and you were like, "Well, I don't consent to any of this." Okay. Well, you don't have to say so unless you consent to anything because [music] we need to loosen this up so you get your wrist. >> So, I'm not going >> I'm confused. >> That's not happening right now, ma'am. That's what you need to on. >> There you go. >> You turn around for >> Can you turn around for me, please? >> I'm going to take your fingerprints. I need you to turn around. I'm not condone. [music] I >> don't have You don't have to condone. >> I do have to condone. I have rights. >> Yes, you're right. You're being changed. >> No, I'm not. >> Okay, that's fine. We'll just charge you with it as well. >> I continue to charge and charge and charge and then when we get down to the uh >> know what's going on. >> Well, we're trying to figure out who you are, ma'am. >> Okay. And then >> and then we can talk more from there. I can't address somebody. I don't know who I'm speaking to. >> I need to speak with a lawyer. >> Okay, no problem. You can speak to a lawyer. >> Okay. We're not asking you any questions. My lawyer would tell me. >> You have to identify yourself no matter what. It doesn't matter what's going on. >> Trying to prevent the officers from taking her fingerprints. Alma tucked her fingers into her palms. The officer informed Alma that every time he had to repeat instruction, she was racking up further obstruction charges. >> Okay. >> I need to know [music] what what what happened. >> I think I think you understand what's going on. I I just need to know what happens. >> Okay. And once I figure out who you are, I can speak to you and actually tell you what the charges are. Okay? So, just give me your right hand. Just pull your finger out for me. Thank you very much. >> How about I just tell you? [music] >> Well, that works, too. But I got to I got to verify it. Okay. Just give me your right finger. That's all. See, real simple. What's your name? >> Just so I know comes back right now. >> It turns out her real name was Jessica and not Alma. The officer showed his fellow officers the report that was on his screen showing she had lied about her identity, most likely because she was wanted by police. How many warrants do you have for every >> I might have one here in Florida. It's old. Very old. [music] >> I'm seeing one. That's why I'm asking. >> It's very old. >> Very old. >> Yeah. >> That's why you were here. She told the cop she was making a deposit because she was told to do so. So they asked her, of course, who made the request. And unsurprisingly, she said she didn't know their names. >> You're just doing it for a phantom. >> Well, they promised me something obviously, you know. So, >> okay. When they promise, >> are they in the area? >> How are you supposed to get out if you >> um like I said, I pull I pull a little bit. >> Okay. And you're supposed to leave with that over. >> You were here earlier. You said you're also here last week. Earlier you told me that. >> What did you do last week? >> What you told me last week last week. >> Okay. Do you want to ask any more questions? Answer any more questions for me? >> Just >> do you want to answer any more questions? >> She became uncooperative again and requested a lawyer. Since she was giving them the silent treatment, they were left with no choice but to wrap up the interview. They took Jessica's personal items and she was escorted out to a police cruiser. Yeah. You want to ask? You want me to ask? Okay. There you go. Yeah. Sit down first and [music] then slide in. There you go. >> Good. >> So, I see a judge in the morning. Um, probably. I'm not sure how it works down there how long it'll take, but I would say probably. So, >> she was initially charged with resisting without violence, and possessing a fake driver's license. After more evidence came to light, she was also charged with fraud, grand theft, and criminal use of ID. On the 16th of September 2022, the cops were called to a surf shop over a suspected case of fraud. When officers arrived, the suspect named Paul was talking to the store owner outside. >> Y'all, I don't I don't have to. >> Yeah, sure. I don't know. >> Talk to people that were here. >> Yes, sir. Yes, sir. >> Do you have your ID on you? >> Yes, I do. >> And what credit card do they >> I don't listen, I have my own credit card, so I'm on here. My nephew bought some bikes. He said, "Listen, I said he said, "Come on over. Um, the bikes are here ready for your nephew." I said, "Sure. My money. It's my credit card with my name. But what about this? This is my temporary wisd >> that's for my my company. I show you put this in my >> No, but there's no name on >> Hey, that's my temporary card. That's my account. Hold on. Wisely account. I don't know talking about I never I never stole I didn't I didn't come here with no Okay. Log into my Wisely. >> Wisely. That's my daughter's name. But I don't know what he's talking about. I didn't I didn't >> They told me to come and pick up the bikes. I came to pick it up. >> However, when the officers talked to the owner, he claimed that a few days prior while trying to buy an ebike over the phone, the man tricked one of his employees into taking a fraudulent credit card. And they had Paul on security camera coming to the store the previous Sunday to pick the bike up. >> That's my savings. That's my name. Says we're asking. >> Yeah. >> So, what is Oh, go my history. So my history, my my my my job. My job. >> Do you have a previous transaction with him and other bikes? >> No. >> No. >> No. >> So how is it that you would be purchasing two other bicycles? >> Well, I I bought bikes before with my with my my thing. But I I I I I didn't I paid for the bikes online. >> Did you come and pick them up? >> Yes. Online pay for them online. >> Online with our credit card. >> Which one? >> My girlfriend used a credit card. I didn't use it. She's out of Texas. Uh I don't know exactly. This is too much for us. >> Oh, I was going to get a different bike at the other store, but I I like when you guys have he did the same thing a second day with somebody who fell for it again. So, it was over $3,000. >> So, he left. Today, he called. I I told these guys just if you ever hear from this guy, encourage him to come back in. Today he called me on to buy four more bikes >> and >> and he's under the impression he bought $10,000 worth of bikes with I have the master card number. >> Yeah, we have the card number he gave us. >> The ceiling address is Santa Monica. >> The owner also informed the officers that a Black Kia Soul was waiting for Paul about a block away. The owner thought it was suspicious because the car kept moving around the parking lot as if trying to observe what was happening in the store. >> I'm sorry. No, you said that I bought the bikes. I showed the gentleman. I showed the officer my my my account. Am I right, sir? Show me down my account. >> You're the person that came got the bikes. >> Yes, sir. >> That were on stolen credit card. >> Oh, I didn't know that. See, I don't know. >> I don't know what you know or don't know. >> Yes, sir. I'm I'm beyond that. >> Let me ask you like is it coincident that you're picking up co the same exact bikes that were purchased? >> Yeah, but that was two months ago. So, I'm not thinking that you know you know there's a problem. I I stayed the right here. >> You're staying there? >> Yeah, I stayed there with my girlfriend. She's eight months pregnant. >> Do you have a car? >> A car? No. >> Nobody drives a car? >> My car? No. >> How about her? She got a car. >> She doesn't have a car. I use Uber. That's the Uber right there. >> What? Where? >> The one he was here. I don't know. >> The car he was talking about didn't match the car they'd caught on camera. Paul was giving the cops a lot of information that didn't seem relevant to the situation at hand. He was jittery and talking fast, which indicated that he was very nervous. >> If I knew this, I'll be stupid to do that. I'm 53 years old. I got a child on the way next month. My daughter's Sorry, I'm grab my phone. My daughter's birthday today. This is crazy. My kid's mother passed away yesterday. >> It isn't my daughter's. >> Happy birthday to my daughter. >> What kind of business will you come back here? >> I seriously just told me about he's going to help me out with [music] my rent. So this is >> my rent I'm in prison for I'm not I don't even [music] >> he bought one I didn't even see the bike. That's the whole thing. He said I bought the bike. I didn't buy it. Only I do came pick it up. If if there was a problem I would have knew something was wrong. I'm not that I go to work. I'm a working man. >> Now Paul was claiming that he had nothing to do with the purchase of the bikes. He said he was just being paid by his nephew to pick them up. The cops, however, were not buying his story. I don't know if he trying to make me go to jail for something I didn't do. >> Yeah, he's looking at me. The gentleman that owns the circus. >> Okay, that was months ago. And yeah, that wasn't me. I didn't pay for I didn't do anything. I'm sorry. >> Hey, there's a couple of things that you're trying to get around. just stop talking and relax, okay? >> Paul then claimed that he was only in town for his daughter's birthday and was living with his mother. And when the cops pressed him for more information, his stories just kept on changing. >> If you're in hotel, >> well, but I'm homeless. Not homeless, but I'm going for jobs. >> So, if you're in a hotel >> Mhm. >> I know that hotel. Well, >> okay. Yeah, you guys. >> Yeah, we're there all the time. >> Yes, sir. >> So, I've been about two weeks now. My girlfriend's 8 months pregnant. 8 months. Okay. >> Dude, that doesn't mean anything. I understand that your girlfriend's 8 months pregnant, but that's irrelevant right now. >> No, I'm saying she's at the room right now. Irrelevant. >> That's fine. She can be at the room. >> Okay. Thank you. >> So, [snorts] what are you doing here today? >> What are you doing here today? >> They told me that they had a bicycle and told me to pick up. >> Who told you that? >> My nephew. >> Okay. So, your nephew? >> He's way way other side of town. But if I knew there something wrong, he said he paid the difference on the bicycle cash or whatever. I don't know. I I'm just blind as everyone else. Okay. If you if something happened, >> slow it down cuz I'm not blind. >> That's what I'm saying. I'm blind. >> No, no, no. You're You're not blind. Now, what I want to know is what you were here to pick up today. >> Paul told the officers that he was only there to pick up one bike. And when the store owner heard him say that, he confronted him and reminded Paul that he'd purchased four bikes. Paul denied what the owner said, but the owner had a quick response. >> See, I didn't even see >> texted the receipt to you. She requested a copy of the receipt. >> We sent you. >> Show me the receipt that he send you. >> Did Did he send it to a different >> I don't send it to whatever number he gave us. We've got the number. >> Oh, here we go. What receipt did um um did you we send the receipt to? They said one bite. Now, as they say, it's four bikes. I told you to pick up one bike. >> Yo, come on. >> Oh, to my son's phone. See, they didn't tell me that. Listen, they got the officer here, bro. I don't know what's going on, bro. I'm not You know, I'm I I am not built for this, bro. I came to get my bike and that was it. I got pregnant girlfriend, bro. My daughter's birthday today. They You paid. Okay. They say they paid for it. So, what what's the problem? text. >> Oh, sorry. >> Yeah. You want to see my text? >> I don't know. I have grown. I'm a grown man. >> Yes, you are. >> I'm 53 years old. >> While Paul initially stated that his nephew told him to pick the bikes up, it was unclear exactly who was on the other end of the phone. Paul got frustrated and strangely tried to use his previous criminal activity as some sort of proof that he wasn't involved in this current crime. >> Five times. For what? >> For uh uh burglary, robbery, and uh cocaine. >> I'm 53. >> Coming here the 29th >> of this month. >> August. >> No. >> Were you coming here the 29th? >> August was this month? Last week. [music] >> No, it wasn't. >> When I bought the two bike, yes. >> Okay. So, you were here? >> Yes. >> What did you use to pay for this? >> I didn't pay anything. I just came to pick the bike. >> Okay. So, who paid for the bikes? >> Hello. >> Pay the bikes. Who the are you talking to on the phone? [cough and snorts] >> Turn off. >> See, that's my daughter. My daughter. >> All right. So, >> I can call her later. >> Call her later. Who >> were you just on the phone? >> That's my nephew. >> What's his name? >> That's all the way all the way in Tennessee. >> So, his name >> I'm going to double check everything you tell me. >> Listen, I'm a >> What's his middle name? I don't know his middle name. >> Who has a credit [music] card? >> I don't have one. My nephew, like I say, not really my nephew, but we call him my nephew. >> This is where things start getting weird, right? Yes, sir. >> Your nephew's not your nephew. You don't know his birthday. >> I should know his birthday. >> I mean, dude, >> I know my nephew. >> He's your nephew and he's your family member. >> But now he's not. >> And he's entrusting you to pick up a purchase of $1,600. >> He can pay for that right now if he wants to. >> Yeah, I know. But you see, you got to understand that there is a problem with being able to pay with something legally and being able to pay with something illegally. >> The cops here were getting more and more frustrated with the man [music] for not answering their questions in full. What Paul didn't know yet is that they'd already run a background check on him, and it did not come back clean. >> You've been to jail how many times? >> You've been to jail. This is the >> You've been to jail a thousand? Are you violating probation right now? >> No, I want nothing. Okay. I've been I got >> released that. >> No, I'm not. I've been >> No, I'm not. >> Check it. >> You have a warrant in Georgia that we can't even >> for driving in 03. >> Okay. >> Okay. You're lucky. >> Yes, sir. I'm Yes, sir. Yes, sir. >> Okay. So, >> so, okay. The question that I want answered, [music] Yes, sir. >> or at least some kind of explanation is where is the credit card to explain these two purchases and why are you picking it up? >> Because I'm speaking. And then [music] why are they charging the dime? So like that's that's where it's at. >> So do you have answers? >> Paul claimed that he was taking the bikes to his hotel room. It was hard to believe he'd store four electric bikes that he was supposedly picking up for someone else in his own small hotel room. Nothing about this story was adding up. >> Who's picking them up from you? >> I'm taking them to my house. >> No, dude. Stop. Don't lie to me. I'm not lying to you while Just remember that everything you tell me I can check on. >> Listen, sir. I know sergeants, lieutenants, all that when I was in prison. So, I don't have to lie to you. >> You don't know? >> Yes, I do. Listen, I don't have to lie to you guys. I know what happens when you lie. >> Listen, when you lie, that's >> You're lying to me right now. >> Okay. I don't know who's picking up. Zo is picking the mic. So, >> who's Zo? >> I don't know. Zo, >> do you understand how this sounds? >> I know. It's a whole bunch of people you No, it makes perfect sense. It's a whole bunch of people that you don't know >> exactly and I'm looking >> doing sketchy [music] stuff and you're right here in the middle of it. >> So, think about this. I already know what's going on. >> I don't want you to bull anymore. >> I want you to explain to me who's involved with it and what your part in this is. >> One thing is my my my nephew Andrew supposed to be >> Uhhuh. >> he he he he buys the bikes. They bought two bikes here. >> Yeah. >> Okay. I don't know what they did when I came. They came into the room and picked them up and that was it. >> Okay. >> I mean, they helped me out with my rent, whatever. Cuz I work. I help. >> Okay. So, they paid you to do this? >> No, they helped me with my rent. >> Explainly. That was like, >> so they're paying for your rent over there. >> No, no, no, no, no. I said they did that last time. Today, I [music] don't know what's going on. >> No, I work. >> Don't get Don't get lost. What What you're telling me is you're getting closer to it. So, now you're Listen, I'm I'm I'm putting it together. >> The officers pressed the man for further details. They asked the man what hotel room he was in that last time when someone came to get the bikes. Sadly for him, Paul didn't remember. They also asked him about the car that came to pick the bikes up and he couldn't remember those details either. >> Are you trying to catch me or something? Like go to jail or something? >> Listen, you're already caught. I'm trying to figure out what your part is. >> Okay, he's caught. >> All right. My girl, please. >> Nobody's telling you. Listen, Paul, do you Paul? Paul, you're already caught in whatever you're doing, so just talk about it. >> Listen, my girl, please work and I come here. I drop my girlfriend off >> and I come here and he said I he [music] said I see my bike. He said, "Oh, your for bike." I said, "I didn't honestly I was messing my baby mother brave." Okay. I didn't know it was for I thought it was going by. That's why I said, "Okay, cool." >> Okay. >> He said, "Well, I got your Uber so you can take it back to work." >> That's when the black SUV pulled up cuz that was the Uber waiting for me to come. >> Okay. That was it. >> Okay. >> But he didn't give me any money or anything, but I guess after work, they was going to come get the bike. I guess [music] the Uber was going to drop me off >> and then take the bike to wherever he was. It was only supposed to be one bike. I didn't know nothing about no four or five bike. Who the freak? That's too obvious. Okay. You know, Jesus Christ. No matter how much Paul protested or cried, the cops knew he wasn't telling the entire truth. They [music] wrapped up the investigation in the store and it was time for this guy to face the consequences for what he did. >> Your back mom's together. It's more comfortable. >> It might be said my baby on the police, sir. >> Okay. >> It's no you don't care. >> I do care. I'm to I'm putting you in my car right now. You want me to read? You don't want to talk to him. >> This can help you out. >> No fear. >> Come on, man. >> I got a D letter. B, >> if you're >> No, I got a D letter. Leave me alone. >> What does that mean? >> That mean I've been in prison five times. Leave me alone, bro. I'm done. >> I'm trying to talk. >> N man, that ain't helping. B. I'm thinking he on my side. He He That was good though. Peace, man. Be kick rocks. >> He's not. >> I know. >> Whatever. Done. I'm 54, man. Man, come on, man. Leave me alone. >> Ah, I don't want to hear a beat. >> Right till the end, Paul continued being more and more difficult. He did not want to cooperate with police any further. In the end, he was charged with organized fraud, grand theft in the third degree, and obtaining property by false impersonation. At a Chuck-E-Cheese, a man and a woman used another person's credit card to buy things. And on March 31st, 2024, the cops successfully tracked down these fraudsters. Maybe go ahead and step out. >> Why am I stepping out? >> Step out, please. >> What? >> You're under arrest. >> For what? >> For what? >> Okay. Help me. >> Okay. What the What the >> Nothing says you're guilty more than punching a police officer. Plus, it'll definitely lead to another charge. The second officer rushed to help his partner subdue the woman, and she continued the struggle, kicking and screaming at them in the middle of a parking lot. >> What am I going to do? >> Why are we under? >> Stop. work for you in custody. >> What am I going to jail for? >> Can you tell me what I'm going to jail for? Please. >> You're stealing. >> Stealing what? What did I steal? >> I never stole anything. >> You're on camera. 2024. >> I'm not stealing anything. I've never stole anything. >> You're on camera. >> What a nice steal. >> They secured this violent woman in the back of the cruiser. They also detained the other suspect, the woman's boyfriend. The officer then questioned the driver about his involvement. >> I just got to them. I don't know what the going on. >> Do you know them? >> No, they're I know them through somebody else. Their car overheated. I'm the one that put the water pump on it. So, I came to them. >> Okay. >> My tools are in the trunk. I don't know what >> it's 2024. You're on camera. >> I just need to know what the hell's going on. >> To make matters worse, in the backseat of the car was the male suspect's child. As the couple was going to jail, the cops had to find someone to take care of the child. >> Second, we're figuring out how to get this kid somewhere safe. >> Can you get my phone so I can call his grandma? Okay. Who are you to him? >> I'm his mom. >> That's not what he said. >> I'm his stepmom. Can I see? >> Okay. >> So, his mom's playing Chicago. You're not mom. >> Can I see her? >> Are you even wife to him? Is he your girlfriend? >> Can I see a phone? >> Your stepgirl. >> Can I see a phone? >> No. I'm getting his phone first cuz he's the father. >> Again, we're not playing by your rules anymore. >> Hey. Hey. >> No, man. We got pooked over by the police, man. I got I got my son, you know. I got my son with you. I I'm going to um have him to come. He gonna come hold him drop him off to you. >> Not guilty. >> So, I'm going to put you in the back of the car. >> Huh? >> What happened to >> I'll let them explain to you. >> Okay. >> Who's suffice? Suffice it to say, >> I don't even know them. >> Long time. The driver of the car was not on surveillance using the stolen card, but the officers still had to detain him while they finished the investigation. When they ran the man's ID, they found out he was driving on a suspended license. >> Mom, I'm in a police car. I'm going to jail. But um what are my charges? >> Theft of mis property and deceptive practice and resisting arrest. charges. Uh what else? >> Theft of mislaid property. >> Theft of mis property >> and then deceptive practice. >> Deceptive practice >> and resisting arrest. >> Oh no. >> And I don't get a buy, right? >> No. Would you like me to talk to her? I'll tell you what happen. Well, if she didn't steal someone's credit card, her life would have been less stressful. And it was the third time the woman refused to tell the officer her age. All those charges and the foreseeable consequences didn't seem to be enough to stop her defiant and entitled attitude. >> Deceptive practice. Okay, that means you're knowingly using a card that does not belong to you to make a purchase for yourself. >> No, it doesn't have to be a mystery. >> What you think? We both got the same thing. >> Mhm. >> What you think? >> Be honest with me. Be honest. >> And I I wish I could, but honestly, with the whole safety act, and you've heard that, right? >> The safety act is what took away cash bail. So, you can't go to jail and get a, you know, $10,000 bond and bond out for a grand. In this case, it would probably been 160 bucks and you would have bonded out. Okay, that that's gone away. Now, it's you go, they're going to get they're going to basically count you as either risk or not a risk to show up in court. If you're not a risk and you shouldn't be clogging up the jail, they're going to give you a court date and tell you to show up to court. All right? And if you don't show up to court, you have a warrant. >> Notice how the man here didn't even deny he'd committed a crime. All he wanted to know was what their punishment would be. The cops called the child's mother, who was understandably not happy after finding out the situation that his father had put him in. >> You need to make things right. And honestly, I mean, out of this whole deal, looking at yourself, I would probably be most upset at that. Putting your kid through this. All right. One, he's not in a booster seat. Okay? We're not going to hit with the unrestrained child because that's your responsibility. All right? When your kid's in a car, you get in a bad accident, which we see all the time around here, especially intersections like this and your kid gets hit. No, he doesn't have much chance. You don't want to be put in that situation. You know, I don't want to be wrestling a girl in front of a kid because that makes us look like bad guys. Now, he thinks the police just fight everybody. So, it takes all of us to make a generational change. You know, I want your kid to be able to come to us and help. The cop went out of his way to speak with the man, detailing the huge responsibility of raising a child. Especially if you're a parent, committing crime just isn't worth it. At the end of the day, they charge the woman with theft, deceptive practice, and resisting arrest. To get their hands on free money, fraudsters will try anything. We hope these criminals learn their lesson, and the next time around, they'll think twice before scamming people again.
