Are you willing to talk to me without the presence of an attorney? >> Okay. So, can you tell me what happened? >> They were paying you off or >> No, I didn't do this game at all. >> Then why you're dead? >> What we got to figure out is where we go from here. A lot of times in life, we make mistakes. In this case, you made a mistake. >> Some people clock in for an honest day's work while others are running their illegal side hustles. a quick refund here, a fake discount there, and suddenly they're facing felony charges. But things backfire pretty hard when these employees think that they can steal thousands without consequences. So, you're taking the money for your grandma, so you can spend it on her. So, it's a $100 bill every time. >> Okay. And you said it's up to 2,000. You took over $2,000. >> It was more than $100. You shot my As if shoplifterss weren't a big enough problem, on the 17th of January 2023, a Home Depot manager had to call the cops on one of their own employees. And based on the manager's reaction, it seemed that by that point they'd gotten used to it. >> So, we have two situations. Which one are you here for? >> Uh, the money. >> Yes, you're with me. I won. >> So, she admitted sign an activate that means she paid at least $3,000. >> You guys have the video footage of >> it taking every single >> Yeah, they did all the transactions. We actually thought it was more about five, but she admitted to three, but I had to have her back here. Um, we I have to notify her we're terminating her and I would like to prosecute and I would like to walk around and pass. >> I don't know. You'll see what we we're going to do here. Um uh but most likely he's going to leave some. >> When when did this start taking place? Do you remember? If you had to take an educated guess, like was it like a month ago? Couple weeks ago, >> few weeks ago, [music] >> few weeks ago. Okay. >> The woman said she worked in customer service and while she wasn't directly at the cash register, she had access to it when she made refunds for customers. The officer, however, needed a little more detail. >> How how are we doing this? Like, explain to me so I can better understand how how we went from working here to slightly taking some cash out at a time. >> I just did it. >> How were we doing it though? I register. >> Were we checking someone out when we were doing it or were you just randomly go to the register, open it up, take out Were you taking out like $20 at a time or $100 at You were taking $100 out at a time. [music] Every single time. What did you do with the cash after you took the every time you took the hundred out? What were you using it on? >> I was going to use it on grandma. >> She claims she stole the money to help her sick grandmother. While it sounded like a noble cause, she went about it the wrong way. However, when the officer asked her to be a little more specific, she really didn't have an answer. >> So, you're taking the money for your grandma so you can spend it on her? Does your grandma take care of you? >> And you thought it'd be nice to kind of treat her. It was not change. She was just sick. >> She's sick. So, you're helping pay for medical bills or something or >> Yeah. Okay. Let's Let's focus on the money now. Were you taking like 20s or were you taking a $100 bill? So, it was a $100 bill every time. Okay. And you said it's up to 2,000. You took over $2,000. I know this is hard for you, Destiny, but I I need a verbal hook or headshake or something. Okay. >> Can I ask a question? >> Absolutely. >> Okay. So, we just talked a few minutes ago, right? We talked about you taking the cash in the registers. It was more than $100 each, right? So, last night we you talked about yesterday what you took from the registers, right? Was over $1,000, right? Okay. He needs to know that. Listening to the suspect's account of the theft, the officer was under the impression that she stole about $100 each time. After the manager intervened, the cop doubled down on the stolen amounts. >> When do you remember any at any time how much you took out every time you went to the till? >> There usually is to >> two to 400. So, we're talking couple hundred every time we took money out from the cashiers. Okay. Do we have any of this money? Did it go into your bank account? Anything like that? You just kept all the cash. >> Do you still have any of that cash left? Anything that you've taken from Home Depot? >> You spent all of it? >> I would if I had it. >> I got you. And to be more descriptive, what were we spending it on for grandma? She I was just paying some of her stuff. >> I'm sorry. What? >> Just paying some of her things off. My >> What kind of What kind of things were you paying off? >> I don't know those specifically. I would hurt my uncle and my uncle was not doing anything or >> She was giving evasive responses and it just raised more [music] questions. If she really spent the money on her grandmother's expenses, why couldn't she remember what she paid for? Her responses were sketchy at best. So for more information, the cop turned to the manager. >> She could take a copious amount of money. >> So we have statements for you with a video for you. Um we have, you know, just a packet for you that CIT puts together. So once we get two or three hits on this, we're send investigation team. They go in, they pull all the video, they pull everything that they need, and they send you a copy. And then we go in, we >> investigate it a little bit more. >> So, she is young. [music] Um, she was 19, so she's not a minor. Um, do you do the diversion program >> uh for stuff like this? Now, >> this is this is a felony amount. I'll be honest. >> Just like that. >> She's going to probably leave in handcuffs. >> Well, that's what she should leave. >> Yeah, absolutely. No, guess what happens? You steal cash from your business. you know, >> and and her not being truthful. She was truthful without us and not truthful with you. >> Before going on with the conversation, the officer made the manager swear an oath that she was telling the truth. After that, it was explained why they were suspicious of her as well as how they caught her. >> Okay. So, about I'd say a week and a half ago, I received an email from the central investigation team in regard to Destiny. We had cash shortages. Um competit, you know, every other day we had cash shortages. So once they did their investigation, they determined that Destiny could be seen clearly be seen um on camera popping open the register with a cash boy and removing cash, placing it in her friend's pocket. Um at that point um they put the packet together. Um we made an appointment to come and see her today. We sat down with her, discussed exactly what happened. She admitted to taking $3,000 worth of money from the registers, stated it was for her grandmother. Um she's written a statement. Uh I witness I have a statement and so does um the other witness and that's what happened. >> Okay. And you've never witnessed her or anything like that taking actual money? >> No, not in not live just on video. >> The manager stated that he'd seen Destiny taking large sums of cash. For example, the day before they arrested her, she'd taken $1,200. After reviewing the footage, the officer confronted Destiny again. You were seen on camera taking multiple [snorts] plethora of money from the tills. Okay. And I'm just I need to get an exact dollar amount. And someone who takes cash, they go home and count it. Okay. I know you went home and counted it. That's there's no ifands or buts about that. Are we talking like $3,000? How much? three cuz from what I'm seeing we're talking more than that. >> I mean alone yesterday you took about $1,800. Okay, I think you know that she went home and counted it probably last night, right? >> After initially claiming she'd taken 3,000 in total, she said the first time she'd taken such a large amount was the 1,200 the day before. She eventually admitted that the total amount she'd stolen was likely over $4,000. >> Do you want to say anything to them about what she did? About, you know. >> Can I have her amend her statement? Her written statement three, but >> I agree to count toward. >> You want to amend your statement and add five in there instead? >> Yeah, it's fine. >> I won't cuff you in front of everybody out of respect. Okay, I'll save you the humid humili humidity or humidity humiliation. Okay, because you're being pretty honest with me from the beginning and I take that I take that with a great amount of respect. Okay. >> The cop did Destiny a favor and let her walk out of the Home Depot on her own. She was handcuffed in the parking lot and then taken to jail where she was later charged with grand theft over $5,000. Some employees see a cash register and just can't help the temptation. But in the case of one employee, the case went far beyond simple theft. It involved duplicate checks, repeated transactions, and thousands of stolen dollars. On the 14th of July, 2025, the cops made sure to put an end to it. >> Hi, how can I help you guys? Um well, we have um [snorts] been going through records. We are um extremely behind in our taxes. So, we've just recently been doing some recons. [music] and we discovered for several months between the months of June 2022 and January of 2023 that we have [music] a employee that apparently has been doing um online banking as well as presenting checks [music] to either a cashing institution like maybe a convenience store or something like that. So we've got multiple checks being cashed for the same [music] employee. And so it started um what do we say in July of 2022 and then in January of 2023 [music] our bank >> center one >> caught one and then it's like it stopped after that. >> So how many transactions are there? >> It's $5,400. >> According to the employees, the suspect would first cash her check through the bank. Then usually the day after, she would then try to duplicate it by using an online banking service called Stride. >> Hi Are you Delilah? Can I have a conversation with you, please? In the back. Okay, we're going to go have a conversation. So, I'm Deputy Mleski. I'm with the Sumpter County Sheriff's Office. Um, the reason that I'm um sitting here meeting with you is because there's an investigation that's been um that's been brought to my attention by your employers um from 2022 to 2023 reference some potentially fraudulent checks. What's going to end up happening today is you are going to end up being placed under arrest. Okay. Um so what I'm gonna have you do is I'm gonna have you stand up for me real quick. Put your hands behind your back. When my coworker gets here, what we're going to do is we're going to um I'm going to have him stand with you. Um we're going to end up grabbing some of your items. I'll let you talk to your mom and everything like that. Put your hands together like you're praying for me. It's >> Yep, that's fine. After handcuffing Delilah, the officer patted her down and had her sit down for a bit while the other officer gathered her belongings. By that point, her mother had heard what was happening and she wasn't all that happy. >> Ma'am, come talk to me. >> Okay. She's in the back with one of my co-workers right now. Okay. >> So, she fraudulently >> deposited a bunch of checks [music] into there in into her account through the like her payubs. She doubled it in the tomb of $5,400. So, she's going to end up going to the Center County Detention Center. If you're Can I touch her, please? Hold on a second. >> That's what I'm going to tell you. If you're calm, I'll let you talk to her. >> Okay? Just don't touch her. She's sitting in there and she's in handcuffs right now with my other coworker and you can have a conversation with her. Okay. >> What the hell are you thinking? Okay. >> No, no, no. This is one of the >> Yeah, they were um >> So, it's going to be a So, the first one's in August [music] >> or no, the first one's in July. So, that one didn't count probably. I got to check that date, but yeah, August. >> I was in contact. >> You had to do this. >> Her mother was visibly upset and rightfully so. Not only did her daughter do something incredibly stupid and might end up in prison, but she also embarrassed her family at their place of work. >> You had to do this here. >> They gave you a chance. They gave you a job. >> You did this to them. >> Sounds good. >> Really? Did he? How many times did I say the people you hang out with? No, it's the people. It's not that. It's just that, too. >> I'm going to leave her phone with the full confession that she has. I'm going to get some more paperwork from them real quick. >> Are you cool here? >> Get this [ __ ] This what you want? >> This is what you want. This is what you're going to get. This is what you wanted. This is the life you wanted to get. You got the baby daddy in jail. Is this what you wanted? You got another boy in jail. Is that what you wanted? That's the life you want to live like like your man do. That's the kind of life you want. Like your friends man do. >> According to her mother, Delila's partner was in jail already, so she'd likely be joining him. The worst part was they also had children. So sadly, they'd be living their lives with both parents incarcerated. >> So don't anyone see your kids in jail, too? >> No. Just see. >> So this that's what you chose to have. >> Okay, mom. >> That's what you chose? Think about it. and Jacob [laughter] because you did it. >> Ma'am, um you're going to take her wallet and everything that's in her desk. I'm taking her phone so she can get phone numbers. I just need your ID to say that I'm um passing her wallet and like anything that's in her wallet to you just for documentation purposes. >> In Florida, stealing over $750 is considered a thirdderee felony. The punishment can be up to 5 years in jail and $10,000 in fines. To make things worse, each of the woman's offenses was considered a separate felony. >> I'm sorry this had to happen. Thank you, ma'am. Okay. So, what's going to end up happening? She's going to get booked into the jail. She's got 16 felonies. It's going to be 16,000 plus dollars most likely for the bond. Okay. So, 10% to a bondsman. >> Yeah. [snorts] I I I'm giving you a low number right now because I don't I haven't worked I haven't done a fraud arrest in a while. Um, so it's going to be it's usually between a,000 and $2,000. So it's going to be anywhere between 16 and >> and like $3,200 or 32,000. So, um, she'll be able to give you it as soon as the charging is done and but she'll be able to be in contact with you cuz she'll be able to get numbers out of her phone. Okay? You're taking custody of the children, okay? And you know where to get them and what to do and everything like that. Okay? I just want to make sure before she leaves because there is going to be a period where she's not going to be able to have contact with you. So, if you have any questions about the children, now is the time to ask. >> With a total of 16 felony charges, she was looking at some serious time in prison and potentially hefty fines. However, the courts can often be lenient, especially towards single mothers who are first time offenders. >> Mom's got the kids. Um, she knows exactly what to do with them, everything to do, how to do everything. I'm going to do a full pat down of you now. So, just so you go ahead and stand up for me so you understand, you can't take any nicotine, tobacco, marijuana, anything like that into the jail. Anything goes into the jail tucked away or anything like that, even the smallest butt of marijuana, even if it's legal, it's automatically a felony if you have anything on you. >> Okay? >> Nothing shoved behind the phone case or anything. >> Okay. Go ahead and spread your feet for me. We're going to do this in the AC because it's horrible out there. Returns a little bit for me. Okay. Thank you. It's just the back of the loopy case. >> Yeah, it's fine. I just have to open it and make sure there's nothing tucked back. >> We have this first car right here. We're just going to go to the passenger back seat. Delilah was taken to jail and she was charged with grand theft and 16 counts of depositing funds with intentive fraud. At the end of things, aside from two days she'd already served, she was spared from doing jail time. She was sentenced to 5 years probation and was ordered to pay restitution. In Florida, a cashier at a Waw Wa gas station thought she could secretly take money out of the cash register without anyone noticing. But once the amount crossed $3,000, somebody noticed. When management confronted the employee on the 6th of September 2025, she didn't stick around to explain things. >> She said, "I'll go to the bathroom." And then by the time she ran, she went she went it. >> Does she drive? >> She went running. I don't >> So, as far as the footage, you guys able to give us the footage? >> Yeah. So, he said he could email to you if you guys want to send him a link. >> Yeah, I'll do that. >> Um, so what as far as like what was taken? There's a whole bunch of things that we can say she um won 81. She went and grabbed a gift card. >> 81. >> Yeah. >> Okay. She got a gift card. >> She got a gift card and then um ran it to the register and didn't put any cash in then took the gift card. >> Okay. So, she Do you know how much? >> Ring up the gift card. >> What looked like a simple mistake on paper turned out to be a pattern. So, they wouldn't get noticed. The suspect made very small transactions, then repeated them over and over. >> She cashed it out. >> Oh, she did it with cash. >> She cashed it out. >> Got you. Got you. Okay. >> But no cash on. >> So, when's the when's the first date that started? What's the first date? >> I don't know. Um, >> how many >> ones he has in here? Let me see here. >> And all these incidents did you have it on video? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Yes. So the looks like the first one he has in here is 75. >> 75 is the first incident. >> Yeah. >> All right. And what was [music] that? Let's start from there. >> The agent explained that the suspect would use different tactics. Sometimes she'd let the customer complete the purchase, then void the transaction and pocket the cash. It wasn't just an impulse cash grab. It was a lot more deliberate. >> So she the way she does it, she's sneaky. She puts So if they need a receipt, she'll put like a cup of ice in 50 cents. So, it still rules something through the register and then she'll just void the other item that she's taken the money. >> Okay, hold on. >> She brings up the Heineken and the gift card. >> She voids the Heineken, gives the Heineken to the customer and then cashes out the gift card. >> Gotcha. >> Okay. How much was the Heineken? >> The Heineken. It was $3.99, but she voided that. So, >> and then she took that cash, too. >> She took the >> 3.99. He didn't pay. He didn't pay. >> He didn't pay. >> Yeah. >> Gotcha. Okay. >> And she just cashed out. >> And it was a $100 gift card. >> $100 gift card. Yeah. $100 visa. So, it was 100 $106.95 cuz there's a activation. >> On another occasion, the suspect voided a purchase of two cartons of Newport cigarettes and kept almost $200. As far as the management went, they only had surveillance for these two incidents, but it was more than enough to justify an arrest. >> So, am I home by a chance? Tamaya? Yeah, we have this at her listed address. >> No. >> Allan Taya Deasia. >> Is she here or no? Hey, Deasia. How's it going? Hey, we got to talk to you about something real quick. >> You're Tasa, right? >> Deasia? >> Yeah. Tamaya. >> Tamaya. Yes. >> Yeah. All right. If if you don't mind setting that down for me. Oh my goodness. Oh my god. >> Oh my goodness. >> I'll explain to you. I'll explain my teeth. I'll explain. I'll explain everything to you. H >> don't. >> It's okay, ma'am. >> Reys. >> Ma'am, uh I'm 102 with 9 alpha. We'll be switching to division one. >> I'll explain, man. I'll explain everything to you. As Tamaya was being arrested, her grandmother seemed quite worried. She probably had no idea how much trouble her granddaughter had gotten into. But at that point, it was too late to make it right. Where's Reese's? >> Sorry. >> Yeah. I'm going to take your phone out of your pocket. Okay. >> Uh 23 was fine. Give you one second. Uh can you put your feet in, bush? Thank you, ma'am. >> We'll explain everything to you. Okay. Huh? >> Yeah. My mom or your sister? >> Grandma. >> Okay. Are you related to her or No, >> I'm her girlfriend. >> Oh, okay. >> The officer tried to explain that she was involved in fraudulent activity and that she'd be taken to the county jail and would be charged with grand theft. >> Uh, so I don't know the details of the case, right? But at at one point at one point she made a mistake, you know, involved some fraudulent activity as far as I know cuz I'm not the investigating officer. >> Mhm. >> But there's there's active pro cause. Okay. So we come, we make contact. Um I mean if you like a followup, we can give you a call back with more details. I'm sure she she'll bond out and explain everything to you. fraudulent activity is like >> like something with with like I said I'm not investigating officer but all I see is that she has a active pro cause for an arrest so I go pick her up. Okay. But this is her. This is the address given. >> Okay. Hey, how are you? Is there an ID or something for her that she can take to the county jail? >> Once Tamaya got to jail, the cops tried to explain the charges to her and the evidence they had against her. For her part, she acted like it was all just a big mistake and that she had no intention of stealing even though what she said made no sense. >> This is a real simple case. >> Okay. >> She was an employer Wawa cuz we keep running around and I just don't want to waste anybody's time. >> I don't think he's listening to >> She was an employ for 4 months, give or take. >> Nelson, who's a certified fraud examiner, does their investigation. They report it to the police. >> Is that their in service >> inside? >> Yeah. So they're specialists for the most part. >> They're specialists and they have video. This is this is all being recorded. So I'm speaking to you the truth. >> I understand. >> There's video and there's receipts >> of let's just say almost every time that she's behind the drawer doing this. There's a lot of receipts here alone. There's like four or five. I mean I have maybe 20ome receipts that she cancels 76 items in each of one of those receipts. and she charges 50 cents of a cup of ice. >> Uhhuh. >> There is no way because the video shows that nobody purchased a cup of ice. She had no reason to charge a cup of ice. >> As the cop laid out one example after another, she began to look slightly nervous. She was glancing to one side, then to the other officer, like she was weighing her options. Sadly for this woman, the evidence was so strong here, there was no way she was going to get out of it. Please explain to me why you charge 50 [music] cents of a cup of ice >> over over 25. >> Like I said, I was not trained on the register and it's a simple have another a lot of problems. I do not ever it's it's over 25 times. >> Okay. And that's where and then if they see and that's where someone should have talked to me and asked me, you know, what am I doing? as that that why does that keep coming up and saying that I don't I don't know I don't I was not trained on a register right for me to even know how to even bring up a cup of ice a cup of ice you can't scan a cup of ice on that registry I don't >> they were extremely smooth on that register >> you were very [music] good >> it's not sir like I said I was not trained on the register I paid a ticket to other employees to where I know how to take the money put the money [music] on the gas and do my job the the the POV shows what what's on there. >> Tomaya might have been smooth all right, but she wasn't quite smooth enough to avoid modern surveillance technology. She tried to talk her way out of trouble, but she ultimately [music] failed. In the end, she was booked in the county jail and she was charged with grand theft. On the 10th of July 2025, Barbara Havery, a 54year-old, was involved in a crime at Wind Dixie. She had a sly motus operandi and instead of stealing directly from the cash register, she was using much more subtle tactics. >> Um, so obviously you can you can discuss this. Okay. Um, what's kind of the you know stipulation behind that? What's going on with that? >> What do you mean with stipulations? >> So what what's the reasoning behind it? >> Oh, cuz items was going out. I figured I could at least get something of it. And this wasn't [music] brought to anybody's attention. I mean, you weren't bringing them up to, you know, management. You weren't bringing up to anybody else. Okay. [music] >> You guys were basically weighing up the items that were not the correct items. >> He put that on the scale that I'd seen. Somehow he put it on the scale and then a ticket would print out. Barbara figured out that before heading to the checkout, she could mark food items down to $0. Slowly but surely, the theft added up to over $750. >> And on the 28th of March, um we have we have items such as Nathan hot dogs. Okay. Their actual retail is $14.99. All right. And it's being seen that there is a barcode on it. All right. It [music] was scanned and the price fee is $0. >> Huh? >> How? >> I'm just giving you all the information. Okay. I have You can see exactly what we're looking at. >> I can't see it. >> So, the item labeled was a half boneless pork loin. The price listed on it is $0 and the actual item is Nathan hot dogs. So, we're scanning the item that's coming up as a half boneless pork loin for $0. price on it. >> The actual item is a Nathan's hot dog package. >> It had to have a scan on it cuz I wouldn't never have anything that was it took it down to zero. >> The woman's tactics were twofold. She would take a food item, mark it down to almost zero, and then print out a new barcode. On other occasions, she would take items that couldn't be discounted, and simply label them as a product that she could mark down. um you know and that's not the actual price of the product and then you're doing it intentionally that's you're you're stealing from your employer. Smithfield bacon four packages paid four packages you paid $324 rather than the retail price of $43.96. >> How would it be $43 >> for four packs of bacon? >> Oh, four packs. >> Mhm. Okay. So, you know, and we're we keep going on. Ballpark hot dogs. You paid 92 originally $12. Okay. Then we go into two packages of sausages originally almost $11. You paid $1.46. >> Some of those those sausages was marked down. Whoops. Some of them was there was a time that one of those they're like a couple of packs like this. Every pack was marked down back there. I bought four or five of them. They're like a red hot dog. Those were on sale already. >> Despite all the evidence, the case against Barbara wasn't as airtight as it could have been, and she was still acting innocent. That's when the senior officer decided to try a different tactic. >> We do have quite a bit of items in here, too, that you're putting in the wrong barcodes on them. >> All right. So, you're buying >> frozen turkey breast when in reality we're buying deli meat. >> All right. And then frozen turkey breast and you're buying tilapia. >> Okay. And then it goes on and on. There's multiple items on here that, >> you know, item listed as a Boston butt. >> You're buying tilapia. Boston butt. You're buying Smithfield bacon because you can put in a weight. You can put a weight amount on it and you can put your actual dollar amount on it rather than paying the actual, you know, retail price on these items. Not bad. >> So, I'm gonna talk to Mr. John and >> Hey, let me talk just for a second, okay? Because we got options right then, okay? But if you're going to sit here and you're going to tell us that, you know, Smith deal bacon. >> No, I only thing of sausages like that. I understand what >> was here. >> So, when you say you understand, you understand that that doesn't look good. At first, the tactic didn't seem to work, and it seemed like Barbara was going to be a really tough cookie to crack, but the more the officers talked, the more vulnerable she appeared. Eventually, she could no longer hold her tears back. >> Like I said, we got options, but if you're going to sit here and tell me to my face that I don't see what I see. >> No, sir. That ain't what I was saying. >> Okay. We make mistakes. [music] >> Right. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. >> Hang on a minute. You never done something like this before, but all >> it's just tough right now, right? Times it tough did what you needed to do. Correct. >> Okay. All right. Well, what we got to figure out is where we go [music] from here. A lot of times in life, we make mistakes. And in this case, you made a mistake. [music] Correct. She eventually [music] cracked, but just moments later, the loss prevention agent revealed that they didn't actually have video of Barbara as she was marking down the products. The [snorts] only video they had was when Barbara was checking out and in addition, she might not have been acting on her own. >> So, we did go through this a couple weeks ago with another associate. She said the same thing that Andy, the market manager, is given approval for this, but Andy's never got approval from the store manager. was doing it on his own kind of taking the other >> other associates under their wing. So I had this this is one of my last um internal interview um and he says I does not tolerate marking down a product meat and seafood or lower prices of fresh product from the sales floor change labels for any reason. So he's saying he's not doing it. >> Okay. >> What was um her statement? >> Yeah. >> In reference. >> Yeah. After coming to the meats department, I seen our meats going bad colorwise. So I asked Andy if we can if we get anything marked down cuz it's old change colors to be able to purchase it in a markdown >> purchase it and he marked it down. He marked it down. >> So he she is saying that statement as well. >> Okay. >> Same thing the other associate said too. >> Okay. >> If several associates said the very same thing, it could exonerate Barbara at least to a certain extent. According to the agent, Barbara's manager, Andy, had been doing the very same thing and had even taken it a step further. Andy is not only marking down his own product like them, but he's also just walking out with merchandise just straight back. >> Okay. >> So, he'll I plan on uh doing him next Wednesday. >> Okay. All right. Sounds good. All right. Well, obviously we'll have to discuss cuz like I said, I mean, >> yeah. you know, we'll have to see if we can speak with her a little bit more cuz like I said, I mean, we have to >> we have to kind of hit that threshold of like she's, you know, willfully doing this, you know, and knowing, you know, and, >> you know, we're kind of getting, you know, a little bit conflicting right now cuz we have, you know, meet manager stating like, "Yo, no, I I don't approve that. I don't approve that." She's saying like he's literally marking this stuff down for me and she's not thinking that she's doing this and the wrong. Um, I understand like me personally, like if I'm looking at it and I'm like, okay, like me being an employee and I'm sitting here, I'm like, okay, I'm paying instead of paying for three lbs of meat, I'm not $25, I'm paying 98. Be a little red flag for me. >> If the manager, Andy, had instructed employees to mark the goods down, the cop had a hunch that the state attorney might not want to prosecute the associates. >> All right. And then they'll obviously have to do your, you know, termination. Okay. They're not wanting to trespass you from the store. Okay? So, you are still allowed to come back to this store. That is again up to you. Okay? We're not going to tell you like you can only come to this one. They're just they don't want to pursue criminal charges like us. They have no no whatsoever. They they have no intentions of doing that. They just don't have a choice because it's out of their hands at this point. Okay. So, Okay. Um, we are terminating your appointment as of today. Okay, that understood. >> Any questions? >> No. You want to head back and grab some stuff back there? Belongings back. >> You don't need it. The big guy who terminated Barbara's employment, then offered her tissues was Andy. He was the very same manager who reportedly had let her mark down the products and did the same thing himself. Little did he know it, but he was about to be arrested just a few days later. As for Barbara, she was charged with felony theft and is facing up to 5 years in prison as well as $5,000 in fines. On August 23rd, 2024 in Orlando, the cops were dispatched to a Target store after an employee was caught stealing gift cards. The investigators quickly discovered that he'd also been marking down various items for his friends, but just wait here why the man did it. >> Hey, how you doing, man? >> Okay. Um, you got a minute to come here real quick? >> Yeah, sure. >> Or do you want me to go out there and talk to him? >> Sure. I mean, you're >> Sorry. Somebody's somebody's going to say um I have the statement in my office. >> How old is this kid? >> Just unfortunately. >> Um so I have my statement filled out. >> Okay. >> On here just kind of everything happened. So over the past since July 26, so we have on camera video evidence. um just doing markdowns for his friends like uh video games marking down 50% unauthorized and um you know on three separate occasions that we have on video the same three friends same card number um so we've been talking to some men there about everything that happened he admitted to it and then on the 14th of this month scanned himself a gift card and put cash payment in >> cash let me just stop you there one second so this about a month ago there was some activity that happened here marking stuff down >> seeing on video >> same kids got it on video all that stuff >> the cop was interested in whether they'd prosecuted the young employee when they first discovered the fraud several months ago. But as things turned out, as far as the scam went, they just found out about it. And actually, it was the first time they confronted the suspect about it. >> He admitted that they were friends of his that he was pretty much hooking them up. Okay. >> And then also the 14th of this month, uh most recently, he scanned himself $100 Target Visa gift card >> on the register when he put cash. You have to put cash in the register. If not, it'll pretty much just charge Target for it. So, I pretty much charged Target for it >> and then put it in a bag and sealed his pocket, walked out. So, >> when we uh were in the office with him, um we pretty much talking to an admission statement. He pretty much admitted to everything that he's been marking down stuff for for his friends since beginning of this year and it's probably close to like two grand a month. >> So, what was the deal? Like you you were cutting them a break and then they were paying you off or >> No, I didn't pay in all of them. >> Then why you're dead? Then why you did that? >> I didn't get I didn't get a single I didn't get a single thing back. >> The suspect, Sebastian, said he did it all for friendship. In the beginning, the officer couldn't believe that someone would risk their freedom and future just to make his friends think he was cool. >> So you are willing? >> Yes. to take a charge for a good friendship, >> man. I'm being completely >> No, I [snorts] I understand that. It just like blows my mind that you're willing to do that. Go to jail >> for a friend. I mean, I want you as my friend. So, out of all this, you kept $100 for yourself. Do you still have that gift card or you already use it? >> Um, my family has it. I don't know if they used it or not. You >> who you gave it to? >> Gave to my father. >> Your father? >> I um I do have one on me though. >> Huh? >> I do have one on me. >> I believe there was two cards I stole. >> How much each? >> About 100. $100 each. >> And the one that you gave it to [music] your dad, you just gave him as a gift or did you tell him? >> Um, my grandfather has a pancreas infection right now. >> Uh-huh. >> And so I kind of gave it to him as like, you know, some money to help pay for the hospital, but that's about it. Cool. While Sebastian clearly made some very bad choices, he didn't try to diminish what he'd done. He was honest about everything and even revealed a few details that they hadn't uncovered yet. >> So, he mentioned three people. Um, I did it for other people, too. Well, >> others that came by. >> So, >> but they they were the main like they >> Right. Okay. So, there's more transactions than what Target knows. That's what you're telling me. Um, I'm not sure what's on that paper. So, they might they might have it down. >> What it's on the paper is the three semi- individuals in three separate transactions on July 26, August 2nd, [music] and August the 8th. That's the three transactions that they have. >> Yeah, those are the main ones. >> All right. Um, you can you can stay right there if you want. That's okay. Any officer ever ever read your rights before? >> No. >> Okay. >> The officer explained the man's Miranda rights to him and why they were important. And after reading the document, he told the officer that he understood what was said. At that point, they continued with the interview. >> So, tell me a little bit about what's been going on here with some of these markdowns. >> Um, >> okay. >> Three guys. I don't know. Okay. >> Um I I just know he's a friend of theirs and so I know the other two Gavin and Kyle. >> Okay. So three three people, three individuals. Okay. >> You say what's his name? >> Um two of them are Gavin and Kyle. The last guy is like um don't call me. >> Yes. Yes. >> Did Gavin or Kyle force you to do any of this? Did they tell you, "Hey, we're going to they threaten you in some way to say if you did this, uh, there's going to be some >> No, no, no. Um, >> no. This was just you want to do something for your friends and saying, "Hey, it'd be really cool if we got some stuff marked down." >> Yeah. >> Which which one was the friend that asked you for the discount? Kevin >> Kevin asked you for the discount the first time he came in and then you agreed to uh to give him discount and then I'm assuming he came back. >> Yes. >> Went straight to you and say the same thing. Can you discount me again? >> Yes. >> The store had proof that the fraud had taken place three times. But the cop had a hunch that it was more than that. And Sebastian pretty much confirmed it. Still though, he said he'd done it for other people and that he never gained financially himself. How many times you discounted that? You think you discounted Kevin and Galvin? [groaning] >> I know Target is saying three, but it was those three or you think it was more than three? >> Five more than three. >> More than three. >> More than three. >> Um, do you have any idea? 5, 10, 15. >> Not 15. >> Maybe like between five and 10. >> Between five and 10. And then uh you had a mention to me earlier that uh besides Kev uh Kevin and Galvin um you also discounted some other transactions for other friends. >> Yes, like once or twice. >> Okay. Was the same thing? They came up to you and said, "Hey, Sebastian, we're good friends. Can you give me a discount?" Or you just immediately like, "I I got you." They came up to me as um who are this other uh >> friends from school. >> Just friends from school. >> The cops went through all the scams, all the markdowns, and the gift card theft. And he admitted to everything. At that point, he was about to face the consequences of his actions. >> All right, sir. Uh let's turn around for me real quick. All right. Trans. Thank you. All right. Do you have anything else on you? >> Uh, just my phone and wallet. >> Oh, and my keys are in there, too. So, >> yeah. Where is your car? In the back corner over there, too. Anything else? >> No. >> Any pocket knives, razor blades, anything cutters on your shoes? >> No, I got nothing. >> Yep. Take care. Okay. >> While he might not have had bad intentions, Sebastian learned that stealing never pays off and he was taken to the jail house and he was booked for petty theft. On July 21st, 2025, the management at Walmart contacted police after reportedly they uncovered a theft scheme involving one of their own employees. According to management, it was a very simple scheme and the employee would make small refunds and then pocket the cash. >> How's it going? >> How you doing? >> Good. What's going on? >> All right. So, we're going to comment. >> Okay. um their phone register and some refund for >> Okay. >> Okay. And uh code that we got six in order with I got to got everything laid out first in all those instance. Ah, this is my thing. >> I'm guessing you guys got video and everything. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now, y'all do upload or you do burn this DVD >> either way. It's easier probably. >> Yeah, ex >> cuz I'm not there's another officer coming. He's going to take primary on it. >> Oh, okay. Gotcha. >> From what the management said, the evidence here was both clear and undeniable. There were six confirmed incidents involving $1,000. They had a hunch there were many more and they wanted to prosecute the suspect. >> So cash from teal probably doing a refund doing a refund without a customer there taking the cash out but uh register for the refund on top. So all the money came from the field first. All right. So broken down give you a narrative on what what took place. This is that's just one of my uh statement but I got each incident is broken down to what what it was and all >> and is there's on video? >> Yeah. >> Go. >> You have on you? >> Yes. Question. Yes. >> Can you do you think Do you know him? >> I did it. I did it. >> I did it. I already talked to him. I did it. >> My guess is some somewhere between 3 to $5,000. Then you just all you got to do is speak to a bail bondsman. You got to come up with 10% with collateral. >> The suspect confessed to everything and wanted to know if she could bond out. After explaining the procedure, the officer then told the woman that it would depend on her prior record and her conduct with law enforcement. In the meantime, the manager was giving a sworn statement. >> Did you raise your right hand? >> Yeah. Good. >> Uh, do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth? >> Perfect. State your name for me, sir. And the reason why you called the police department today investigator with Walmart and we have an associate who was taking money cash from the tier also doing fing refunds and taking the cash from the ts for the refund that fraud them. So, we had six incidents um ranging them from um June up until uh more recent, you know, about a week ago. Um totaling over $1,000. Uh there's numerous more, but it just stopped availing prosecu. The officer wanted to know how they found out about the fraud. The manager explained that after searching the tills for insurance purposes, their loss prevention agents became suspicious. >> Scrolling through various right now. We notice her suspicious like doing refunds with a customer there. It's very suspicious. >> Somebody have to be there to refund taking money coming for a period of time. just doing a transaction himself and taking money from the TV. Uh getting there from possession and walking out with so >> perfect. Um anything else that you want to add to that, Sarah? >> Uh and after interview she confessed to doing all of it and she actually confessed to doing se all the way. >> Okay. should be first. Okay. >> According to the management, the suspect here, Miss Ferguson, seemed to be forthcoming and honest about everything. However, before they could question her further, they had to read her her rights. >> Just read your Miranda rights. All right. >> Like I said, I'm not the one investigation or anything like that. back up. >> These are your reminder right? You have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions. Any statement can and will be used against you in a court of law. Do you understand those? Yes, sir. >> So what happened? You got away with it once and thing. >> Obviously. >> Yeah. I said I told him stuff is hard at home >> and I'm sorry >> what's going on on with home life. >> As she began explaining the theft and why she did it, the reality of things was slowly sinking in. Little by little, she was coming to terms with the consequences of her criminal actions. Sorry. >> I did it. I knew I was going to get caught. >> Yeah. >> Like I said, um we started you and you know, you got no other choice. You do something stupid. >> Yeah. All right, we're aware of what's happening? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay, >> I got it. >> So, you're aware that you're going to be placed under arrest in Bra? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. >> Aside from being a little bit shaken, she didn't resist or argue or make any kind of scene. She claims she knew she was going to get caught and considering all the facts here, she was taking it pretty well. >> Out of respect, I'll wait till we get outside to put you in handcuffs and murder everybody here. >> All right. >> So, I'll wait to put you out in handcuffs out there. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Is there any way we go through the back door? >> Um, is this the back door? >> Um, we can get out the back door if you want to go around the back of the building. >> I'm good with it. I have no problem with it. No problem with it. >> I need your statement and I need your >> It's easier when I have a desk. >> Where should I bring my car? >> If you just go like around the back of the building, you'll see like um an open door. >> Well, he's going to stay with my car. >> Yeah. You'll just see an a big open door with that RV seating door. >> Okay. After it was all said and done, Miss Ferguson was taken to the jail house where she was charged with grand theft. On the 17th of April 2025 in Boon Beach, the cops responded to a theft investigation at Kohl's after reportedly the loss prevention agents flagged one of their employees who was stealing merchandise right off the rack. >> How you doing, champ? >> Funny we see you again. This time we need you. >> All right, so we're going to go to the management office over there and that's what we have. >> Okay, >> so what do we have so far? So, here's I'm going to just take a picture for my record keeping and then I will give it to you. Her [music] name is Samantha Spear. She's 18 years old. Works for Sephora. She's with us 33 days. We uh through a tip and observation were able to catch her stealing multiple items. And in the interview process while they were interviewing her, she confessed to like, you know, stealing almost every day the last couple weeks. >> The company Sephora is a multinational retailer and is considered a leader in the industry, selling beauty products and personal care items. The suspect here, Samantha, admitted to stealing makeup for the past few weeks. But the real question was just how much did she manage to steal? off quick math that we were doing in our head. She stole a couple thousand worth of merchandise to be concise because it'll helping, you know, evaluating her future with us. >> She asked, "Am I going to be fired for this?" I would leave the job. >> And he was like, "Well, based off your honesty, the more honest you are with us, you take that into consideration." So, >> crazy question. >> Yeah. Right. >> Keep working here. You guys have video receipts. >> Yeah, we're we'll be able to provide that for you. >> Yeah. From what she told us, she's been doing all the stealing for her family, for her sisters, her father, her mother. >> Like said, go, you know, looks like your parents, your family put you in a predicament. >> Yeah. >> At first, she'd only stolen small items here and there, but after realizing nobody had noticed, she got bolder and kept doing it every day. By the time they caught her, she'd already crossed the line between misdemeanor and felony. >> 18 years old. Never had you guys. >> He's kind of asking, "Are you guys going to prosecute?" >> Yeah. >> You guys trespass her trespass [snorts] for associates unless she like she gets stupid, stands up and starts to >> All right, Samantha. So, a couple things. All right. Um certainly anytime an associate calls a laws to us, right? There's some ramifications. So the team from Bolton Beach is here to talk to you. All right. So there's a couple things. All right. At only 18 years old, she was already facing consequences that could derail her entire future. Clearly, she wasn't taking it too well. When the manager asked her to sign a statement, the woman's hands were shaking so bad that it was virtually impossible to do it. >> You're okay. Calm down. You're going to print your name and put the date. Get that water for you. >> So, Samantha, I do have to I do have to make sure you just are aware whether or not you sign or not. It's okay. All right. You are being released from employment. Okay. Yes, sir. >> You can't come back to call us to work anymore. >> Yes, sir. >> All right. Um, all right. So, these gentlemen are going to have some things that they're going to cover with you. All right. >> All right. I'm sorry. >> You're fine. Do you have anything in your locker that we should get for you while these gentlemen are covering a couple things for you? >> It's just my bag. >> Is it locked? >> No, sir. >> Okay. What's your locker? >> It's It's not the right one. It's the one at the like very bottom. While the manager went to fetch Samantha's belongings, the cop took the time to mirandize her and ask her a few questions. But by that point, she appeared to be unable to even think straight. >> Are you willing to talk to me without the presence of an attorney? >> Okay. So, can you tell me what happened? Sorry. >> Oh, God. [laughter] >> How about [snorts] we do this? Let's give her a little breather. >> All right. So she clearly getting her from closer and then we'll continue. [clears throat and laughter] >> Okay. >> Sounds good, man. >> Sir, sir, >> just keep listening, Samantha. [laughter] Everyone's going to treat you with respect. No one's going to yell at you. No one thinks anything. >> Okay, this was a mistake, but you need to stay calm for us. Okay, can you do that? Calm down for a little bit. >> Get the [laughter] water. Listen, we're going to take off this door hand [snorts] to just grab a control vehicle this way. >> While she struggled to keep her cool, the cops were getting statements from the management. Allegedly, she'd taken items at the end of her shift without paying and they had evidence of four such instances. Eventually, she admitted to more. >> And a thousand is that the correct amount or is that just what she admitted? >> That's that's what she admitted to. She's going to bring back all the rest of the products. um could be a difference. It could be a little bit more. Um but we won't know until it's fully back in. I'm not sure how we can help him. >> So, do you guys have like a list of the like the time she [music] >> Yes. And that's going to be uh put into evidence.com >> detail. >> Okay. >> Once he gets the information over. >> All right. I'll drop I'll drop a receipt in there for it. But um it's got the total of what we what we know until we get back the rest. >> Okay. Like I said, based off, like I told you when we were walking back here, based off the math that we did, it's $1,000. >> So, and his, you know, interviewing her, he said the long [music] with us. >> Yes. >> The whole process of it. So, basically that was to jog her memory to make it think harder. Like, you know, I just put everything that I that I took. You know what you took? >> Yes. >> For your mother, you know, you took for your sister. You know, you took from your father, you know, you took for yourself. >> Okay. and that'll give us an idea. >> After getting statements from both the managers, the officers then talked about possible charges, but more importantly, they really wanted to see the video footage showing Samantha committing the crimes. >> If we have a video for the four, we can scheme to def. The thing is is that anything afterwards at this point would either be in addition to or a separate thing. >> Okay. >> So, what we need to find out is what we have here today, what we can charge her with. If you guys are good after that and you're just washing your hands clean from this because she's fired me the report number that's a perfect but we'll get what we can get today >> because that's probably the route that I would go out. >> Okay. >> So she grabs there's a Sephora bag back here. [snorts] >> So you'll see she grabs that bag. [snorts] So, you'll see there's already I don't know if you if you saw that, there's already a couple things in there. She comes over here. Store's closed, by the way. It's 9:13 at night. We close at 9:00. >> Okay. She grabbed here and here. >> Anything else on Is there some kind of outside? >> Thankfully for Samantha, the cops spared her the embarrassment of being escorted out of the store in cuffs. They took her out the back door, patted the woman down, and she was placed in a squad car. Simultaneously, the cops got their final statements from management. >> How you guys catch this? Um, actually the store associate gave us tips that she was acting weird. So, we started reviewing video of all of her closing shifts. I'm just read like, "Hey, I think we might have something." >> Good for that for a quick >> started with this. >> We saw her conceal [music] this last night. >> Now, we're at this great >> You can have it, my friend. >> Um, so I'll put Is it Is it okay if I put you down as I have the report number? I'll send every video that I have. >> Do you want me to only send the video for this right now? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Then what do you want me to do secondarily? >> Well, the thing is we're charging over scheme to defraud. >> So, we've already seen that. >> Yeah. >> Anything that we're doing, >> it's already like it would just strengthen the case if you wanted to. It would be a supplement to the report, but it wouldn't be additional charges. >> Yeah. Yeah. Fair enough. >> So, what we're doing is what we have right now, but because it's the systematic theft over and over again, >> it wouldn't be additional charges. That's what this all kind of encompasses. >> Sure. Yeah. Yeah. >> They charged the woman with scheme to defraud, which in Florida is considered a felony. If convicted, she could face up to 5 years in prison, 5 years probation, and $5,000 in fines. As these thieving employees all learned, they couldn't just steal thousands from their employers without facing any consequence. Thanks for sticking around to the very end.
