shift at a local mall when he was alerted about a young man who was seen harassing underage girls the officer approached the suspect but he didn't immediately bring up the issue about the alleged is uh dark Court um there's like a there's a sleeper outside my house and he has a knife and he's threatening my husband do you know him do you know him um it's not an um it's a yes or no do you know who he is yes or no yes it's my husband's brother what's his name Alexander and what color shirt is he wearing uh he's wearing a black hoodie and uh and a black shirt and dark blue jeans and the white uh Nike shoes and is it a long knife is it a kitchen knife like those flip out knives like the once that fold and then you flip them out does he actively have it out or you just St yes yes he he actively pulls it out he actually has it out yeah he he's out TI right now is he saying anything is he yelling anything yeah yeah he he keeps stting my husband my husband is uh trying to tell him to go away uh and I'm hiding in the Bing with my kids I'm just going to stay on the line with you until the officers get there okay okay at first the caller was hesitant to reveal the fact that the suspect was her brother-in-law but the dispatcher got it out of her apparently there was a family argument that escalated which led to 22-year-old Alexander yepez Ortega threatening his brother with a knife here's what the surveillance camera captured [Music] [ __ ] keep stupid don't the caller said the suspect was a tweaker a slang term used for Methamphetamine addicts the suspect's strange Behavior shows us she was probably right drugs of course do terrible things to people let's see how the man reacted when the officers arrived where did he go where's he where's he at where's he at can one say with my family go lock the door window: he's young so yeahor here anyone in this backyard buto please Department K9 come out with your hands up since the cops were able to identify the suspect early on they were aware the man already had a warrant for his arrest on multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence they approached the man with Extreme Caution and brought a canine unit with them that's good Alexander this is the Modesto Police Department can9 unit you need to come out with your hands up surrender now I'm right behind you here police get yourself know I got him charge in the car Doc's here hang on hang on hold him hold here here here here here move here once he saw the cops arrive the suspect ran through the yards of nearby homes however with the help of the K9 it wasn't too difficult for the officers to to locate him he tried to hide in someone's pickup truck and he had no way to escape but this situation was still far from being over I can probably yep hang on I'm GNA go around keep holding here keep your head as he exited the vehicle officer blunt immediately shot the suspect from that angle it might have seemed like he jumped the gun however officer Crim's body cam revealed what actually happened hang on hang on just hold them there hey keep your hands up let me see them hands up both of them back up back up there you go back up over there hey if he does not comply I'm going to send the dog on okay keep your hands up where I can see him you see that stay here stay here open the door we need go hands on you okay get up officer Crim's body cam footage showed that the suspect lunged at her with his knife stabbing her in the hand in the process he then kept lunging at the officer for officer Crim this situation was clearly life-threatening and the shooting was fully Justified what you got what you got what you got I got stabbed in my arm hey where you st where you st right here thank hey hold him huh were you 97 on this any more else in the suspects all you is ready to take over the officers then tried to revive the suspect until the Medics arrived but he succumbed to his gunshot wounds as for officer crim it was later determined that she sustained non-life-threatening wounds as a result of the attack there are lots of different reasons why suspects decide to attack cops sometimes they just don't want to go to jail and other times it's drugs however our next case is different as mental health issues are involved this all started when a father called the cop because his son stopped taking his meds and started threatening the man with knives my son okay he has taken his meds for days okay and tonight threaten me with KN okay uh and when you say he threatened you uh what what exactly did he say say remember he just went like this I'll click over to two if you want to monitor one um I'm sorry what did you say exactly he said sir remember I don't remember what he said but he was kind of waving the knives at you yeah okay and you obviously are concerned that he's going to attack you with the knives yes okay if you were wondering about all the fireworks going on in the background this incident unfolded in Modesto California on the 4th of July and while everybody else is out celebrating the Harvey family weren't in a celebratory mood tonight they had to call the cops on their own son Dylan doesn't make any sense when he's off his meds so I don't I don't know okay how old is he 30 uh if we knock on the door you and anticipate him uh be becoming violent with us or anything I don't know he's never been off his meds for three days okay what would you like for us to do you think take huh take him to the puff yeah all right well we'll talk to him and we'll see if we can talk some sense to him all right and maybe get him to come with us and uh if not maybe we'll put him on a on a psych evaluation hold if he can meet the criteria oh he'll meet the criteria okay the cops explained that they were about to go inside and talk to Dylan and attempt to have him come out with them peacefully they instructed the father to remain outside so he wouldn't agitate Dylan any further after talking with Dylan through the door for a few minutes the officer got him to step outside his room nice come on out here buddy can I ask you a question real quick buddy you don't have those knives on you right no I don't will you just turn your pockets inside out for me and show me yeah is that okay hey but I got another thing to tell you though I'm in an emergency could you guys listen to me yes sir did you hear anything I said I heard a little bit but it's so loud outside it's hard for me to hear H what's what's wrong all I know is they have it's also a hosital you know they have crazy things to say about chiming me that's none of uh well since that's going s of their concern but it kind of looks like he came over to like try to put me under r then I didn't do anything leave people are just calling verbal arguments all night long everything there hey one more thing yeah oh also they said Chase you with the m gun don't to leave this Hospital yeah it's in the backyard but then you go first tell me what's going on Dy can I just ask you one more question would you mind just kind of would you just show me you don't have any other knives or nothing on you just cuz your dad said it was something about knives so we're all freaked out about him honestly we're all nervous about him so hope you can understand a little too all right also waiting to partner myself with friend com would you like to sit down and talk at this time we don't know what Dylan's mental condition was because it was muted for privacy reason but it's clear he was going through some sort of mental crisis not much of what he said made sense and though he seems to be peaceful and Cooperative that could change in the blink of an eye come on let's go sit down here uh do you mind if I sit at the officer tried to cut to the Chase and asked Dylan about his medication but Dylan just brushed it off and continued with his rant apart from that he was pretty calm and didn't appear to be aggressive at all after talking to the father again the cop tried to get Dylan to come with them peacefully but first he had to gain his Trust Dylan how would you feel about going and talking to the doctor man I don't you're the doctor I'm just a cop I don't know a lot of stuff about cop I I'm not supposed to it's my first time here you can trust me in house would you be cool going to the hospital and talking to a doctor and getting some new medication got a cigarette to smoke I feel like I need to talk to you more after I get some more buddy where's the cigarette I'll grab it for you right now in my room you mind if I grab it for you yeah tell me where it's at techology where where's it at it's on my buddy my partner right now'll smoke we'll smoke a couple cigarettes together right now so far so good the cops sat down with Dylan had a smoke and chatted some more a good way to deal with someone experiencing a mental health issue is to make them feel calm and comfortable the officer even managed to get him to step outside although he did have to let him touch his badge first for quote unquote safety and protection Dylan would it be okay if you walk outside for me would that be cool man I'd super appreciate it just go follow follow him buddy okay so I'm going to talk to the car I'm not going in that's what I would question cuz I'm scared of you guys come bu there's no need to be scared bud I promise you you're not you're not going to get in any kind of trouble okay go ahead I'm not going to I don't want to be close to you when you walk by cuz I can tell your Kimberly was still there sitting in the car they started talking but it must have triggered Dylan because as soon as the officer turned around he returned to the house is try okay now he looks noral again since I'm mental it's legal mhm I didn't do anything holy crap that's a lot of pills man those are all the ones you're supposed to take today uh-huh okay thank you Lord I want to stand down for that they were back to square one all the previous efforts to keep Dylan Cooperative went down the drain and then he started to get defensive he was still relatively calm and respectful but it was obvious that he wasn't as Cooperative as before and with mentally unstable person they can just instantly snap okay hey can we go outside and talk to the ambulance BR yeah is that cool you can you can voice that he didn't want to shoot the guy but if someone's coming at you with a knife there's not much else you can do but defend yourself Dyan stop Dylan what was that that was a gunshot Dylan what happened he grabbed a knife are you okay Dylan listen buddy we got to put a turn on your neck okay let me on your face it's okay it's okay it's okay it's okay it's okay got the knife it's okay it's okay come here watch out for the knife come on you got gloves yeah I got a glove on okay he cut a little bit are you okay dyl it's sad when someone suffering from a mental disorder gets shot for being aggressive but he attacked the officer with a deadly weapon and the shooting was completely Justified luckily Dylan survived despite being shot in the jaw and arm he was hospitalized and later charged with attempted murder of a police officer and that concludes today's episode that was truly a crazy roller coaster of cases involving police officers in dangerous situations if you want to see more
