Don't you tell me. >> Let's get you down there. Get you to your hotel. >> I don't even want to be in that hotel. I just God damn it. >> Laura, I have two options. I can take you down or I can take you somewhere else. There's other places I can take you. >> See, y'all forcing >> I'm not forcing you. >> I'd rather you shoot me. >> in this car right here for 15 minutes. You're allowed. But, you can sit in my truck with me if you want. >> I'd rather you shoot me. I don't I don't want to leave here. God. I guess you're going to kill my mama. >> Let's get you a seat and calm you down, okay? >> I can't breathe. >> I'll be in the front of my truck now. >> God. >> I'm just grabbing my >> Do not >> Do not worry. >> I don't want to leave. >> I'm not making you leave, honey. >> God damn it. >> I'm just turning on the air conditioner with you. >> God damn it, Jimmy. >> Do you want to talk to Julia? >> Jimmy. Jimmy. JIMMY. I CAN'T BREATHE, JIMMY. >> HEY, listen to me. Listen to me. Breathe. You need to breathe. You can't help her. You are like this. You need to breathe. Breathe. Breathe. All right, you're coming to the SNS store? >> Yes, sir, I will be there here shortly. >> Julie, God damn it. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Everybody's going to hate me. >> Everybody's going to >> [cough and clears throat] >> Nora. >> Here's your phone, baby. >> [laughter] >> Come on, come on, calm down, calm down. Calm down, baby. Calm down. >> Why don't you take a break for me, go be with your family for 15 minutes, okay? Go sit down with your sister. Just >> Let me tell you something. I know where you can go. >> Come on. >> You can go to go to go to the bathroom. >> Okay, man. Can I help you in any way? >> All right. Do you know if we're Skyy, who she might have been hanging out with or anything? >> Uh AJ was one of them. I don't know his last name. >> Is he white or black? >> Black. >> Okay. >> To understand what comes next, you have to understand how these people are tied together. This wasn't a street full of strangers. It was a small, tangled circle of family and old connections who'd known each other for years. And one man in particular had been part of this girl's life for the better part of a decade. Long enough that no one thought to look at him twice. >> Okay. Anybody else? >> Uh who's that other boy she's been hanging around with? >> Where's AJ live around? >> Huh? >> AJ. >> I don't know. >> Okay. All right. >> Um she would go off and come back, but her baby's father has been coming around quite often and letting me see the baby. >> And who is that? >> Uh who's the father of the baby? What's his name? >> I don't know if she was pregnant or not. That's what >> No, I don't mean this one. I mean the daughter that is >> That's what I'm saying. I don't know if she got a daughter or not cuz you don't get to bring your traits. >> So she has a baby? >> As far as we know, she's been telling she has a baby, but we don't know. >> Okay. Okay, so you have a missed call from her at 7:53 this morning? >> Yes. >> Let me see that, please. This >> These two are Jasmine >> So she tried to call you >> twice >> tonight? >> No, that was yesterday morning. >> Oh, oh yeah, I got my days mixed up. I'm sorry. >> So yesterday morning it was >> Yesterday evening actually. 9:20 p.m. and 9:24 p.m. >> Uh her baby's daddy is Indian >> And I lost her. >> Okay. >> and black mix >> Okay. >> And then the rest of the people I know are mostly black which she is >> Do you know her baby daddy's name? >> No, I do not. >> My question was do you know where the baby is now? >> Huh? >> Do you know where the baby is? >> Oh, probably >> The baby's with her father. >> Okay, and Sam >> Where was supposed to be but I think he came up this weekend because that's the last time I got when she was in the room with me she said that she was going to meet up with him this weekend. >> Do you know her baby daddy's name? >> No. >> Okay. >> He does live and he they live on Congress >> on Congress? >> Her his family lives on Congress. >> Okay. Is there anything else you can think of right now? >> No, not right now. >> All right, we'll be reaching back out. >> I'm going to go for a walk on the side I'm going to go for a walk for a little bit cuz I just need to clear my mind. Don't call me please leave me alone. It's mom. I won't be home until later. I love you. Dude, is Jasmine there hanging around with you? I don't mind just watch out for her and make sure nothing happens to her. That's what I worry about. I already get skittish enough about her being out and about, but I know she's grown, but I still look out for her. So, just take care of her and don't let nothing happen to her. >> Good. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Um We're looking for uh [ __ ] Uh >> Yes, I'm sorry. I'll go get her. >> Okay. >> And >> What's your name? >> Ellen. >> Ellen? Okay. Did I meet you last night? Okay. What was his name again? You got it? >> I said William. >> William? William? >> Yes. I said William. >> Okay. He live here? >> Yes. >> You live here? >> Yeah. >> Whose trailer is this out of curiosity? >> Uh Rodeo. We were renting from Rodeo like 10 years ago last week. >> You know you haven't been here? >> No. >> Coyotes? >> We don't know where they're going. >> Yeah. >> I don't know her mom and I haven't talked to her in a long time. I don't know where she went but I haven't seen her. >> You ain't seen her in 10 years? >> No. >> What about you? You You are living here, right? >> Yeah, we live here. We live here. We live here with my mom. >> Okay. When was the last time Coyote was over here? >> Coyote has never been here. >> Never been here at all? >> No. >> Okay. We're just trying to figure out everything. That's all cuz I know her some of her family's here. >> Like him, last time I seen her is when we lived on >> What is it? What was the name of that road? >> It's Hickory Hickory Glenn. >> Yeah. >> Oh, okay. >> I remember >> Everybody shut >> Oh, that Hickory is at >> By the springs over there. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah, but that's been like 9 10 years ago. >> Yeah, they used to >> Yeah. >> Do you know her? >> Yes, sir. >> Hey, I just came to talk to you for a minute. >> get him out of the way so he can do what he needs to today. Try not to be in anybody's way here. >> No problem. >> Last night was confusing a little bit, so I'm just following up with you to try to understand some stuff. So, Cody, when was the last time she was here? >> I'm not here. >> No, she's never been never been here. Okay. Um and then you're married to Brian now? >> Brian Cartersville, yes. >> And then you have an ex-husband? >> Yes. >> What's his name? >> Brian um Leonard Bowen. >> Leonard Bowen? Okay, John Leonard Bowen. >> Mhm. As far as he's been on 349 and here and my love. >> Okay. >> That's all I am. >> Okay. So, he's not living here though at all. Okay. >> He he does not live here because he's not allowed to live here because this is a sex crime. >> Yeah. Okay. But he's been living on 349? >> 349 right up here at the road, yeah. He lives back there with Phil Thomas. >> Okay, with Phil Thomas. >> Mhm. >> Okay. Now, would he have any contact with Cody? >> He knew of her but didn't know she was back in town until here recently. >> Okay. He didn't know she was back in town? >> No. Because we kept her hid. >> Yeah. Why'd you keep her hid? >> Because we didn't want too many people to know that she was back in town. >> Okay. So, did he find out when she was back in town? >> Not until last night. >> Okay. So, you talked to him last night? >> After I talked to y'all, yes. >> Okay. And what did he say about that? >> Oh my god. >> Yeah. So, but he knew her growing up and stuff? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Because I had Cody when she was in first. >> Okay. >> And I was with him. >> Okay. So, you and John and Cody lived together for a while? >> For all of them. >> Yeah. >> I had Jody, >> Jody >> Julia, Junior, >> Mhm. >> and their other sister, Ally. >> Okay. >> Allysha. >> You know where we found Cody, right? >> Not really. I thought she was on the other side of SS, in the woods over there. >> No, she's up here off of 349. >> No, nobody told me that. >> Okay. Yeah, she's right up there off of 349, like down that little dirt road off of 349. >> I know where it's at. >> Okay. >> Because I used to live right there off the dirt road where the green fence is. >> Okay. By where the green fence is? Okay. So, >> That's still Thomas's place. >> Okay. So, that's where Phil Thomas lives. >> Uh-huh. >> And Wait, I'm confused. Is John living there or is he supposed to live there or does he stay there or what? >> No, he don't stay there as far as I know. >> Okay. >> He lives with my little sister, girlfriend, and his or his or my >> Okay. And what are their names? >> Uh Christie something. I don't know what her last name is. >> Okay. So, Christie and >> Lana, John Lana. >> Okay. >> And his her mother and I don't even know her mother's name. >> Okay. Do you think Cody might have would have called John for anything? >> She didn't have his number. >> Okay. But she knew him. >> Yeah, but she don't have his number. >> I mean, yeah, no, I'm just saying she knew him. If she got his number or she saw him somewhere, would she be afraid of him or >> No. >> Okay. Like they got along? >> Yeah. >> Okay. That's what I was trying to understand. >> They never never had >> y'all were trying to keep her hidden, I didn't know if there's a reason why you're keeping her hidden from him. >> No, everybody, pretty much. >> Okay. >> She's the one that was slipping out and going seeing people. We didn't We didn't want her to. We tried to keep her. >> Okay. When's the last time you saw Is it Does he go by John or Leonard? >> He was here the night the Nora called me. When y'all >> Last night? >> Yeah. >> He was here last night? >> He was here last night. >> What was he doing here? >> We were moving a couch. >> Okay. To where? >> That one got moved out and a new one got put in. >> Oh, okay. So, he came over to help you. So, even though he's your ex-husband, y'all still get along? >> Yes. We have >> What were you going to say it wasn't my It wasn't You said you were going to say something it wasn't me or something and I cut it off I cut you off. >> It It wasn't him, I said. Because he was here. >> Mhm. >> It couldn't have been. >> I didn't say it was He's >> I'm just saying I'm giving >> I'm just trying to make sure I understand where everybody is and who everybody >> Leonard was here from early morning to almost to the late night after I left. >> Okay. So, he was here early Sunday morning. He came here. Okay. About what time? >> It was like 8:00 in the morning. >> Um >> I was with him for 10 years, so yeah, I know. >> Okay. Well, let me ask you this. He's a registered sex offender. >> Yes. >> Is there anybody in the family he ever did anything to? >> Uh his nephew >> Okay. >> is what I He got in trouble for. Other than that, no. >> Okay. Um >> That I know of. >> So, I don't know what how that says cuz ask you this I'll just ask you. So, does he prefer little boys over girls or >> Yeah. >> Okay. Has he ever talked to you about that? >> Yeah and no. >> Okay. >> He would say something about it, but he he would stop in mid-sentence. >> Okay. All right. Do you think there's anybody else that we need to just go talk to so we can just kind of clear the air with you? >> somebody to go talk to that guy that supposedly has her daughter. >> Okay. >> I don't know his name. >> This is the one you were telling me about might be in Tampa or something? >> Yes. >> And he also has a house off Congress, I think you said? >> He has parents that live on Congress. >> Okay. Hey, I'm Sergeant Watson. I work with the Sheriff's Office. You don't mind talking to him, right? Okay. I'm just making sure. Sorry. Don't want to put you in any kind of awkward situation. All right. I know that some of these guys have talked to you too already, but I'm just going to kind of start from the beginning with you. That way I get, you know, I understand it better cuz I told they tried to tell me that's three different people trying to tell me what you said. >> Right. >> I'd rather just hear it from you. >> Yeah. >> Sorry. Um what I will say is, I mean, obviously, you know, >> We found Kaylee there. >> And my understanding is she was like your niece. >> Kind of, yeah. >> Okay. Like you were married to um what's her name? >> No, never married to Kaylee's mom. >> I Oh, that's right. I'm sorry. Okay. Uh [ __ ] is what she goes by? >> Yeah, I think that's her name. >> Seven years right here? >> Here's what the man in that truck didn't know that they'd already found. Underneath her body was a piece of mail, and the address that it led back to was a house that he'd been living in, one that he'd never listed with the state as a registered offender. This store camera up the road had also caught him changing his clothes in the parking lot. So, when the questions kept circling back to that address, the investigator wasn't fishing. He already knew. He was waiting to see if the [music] truth would come out on its own. >> All right. Yeah, and I understand that at one point she even lived with y'all for a while because her mama could stay out of jail and all the other stuff. >> She never lived with us time. She stayed with us but her mom was with her there with us. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. That's why I'm asking questions so I can understand. >> The kind of [ __ ] that I was in so they kicked me out. >> Mhm. All right. So I know these guys were talking to you a little bit. What all have they told you about, you know, why we ended up here at this house? >> Supposedly that um they found her body >> Mhm. >> and something to do about um some something about trying to get rid of buried evidence or something like that. >> That's our deal. So you got out of you got out of prison in January. >> Yeah. >> Um now I don't My understanding is obviously you know Nora. We've talked about that already. >> Yeah. >> So when's uh Nora said I think she got out of prison about 3 weeks ago. Does that sound about right? >> Yeah. >> When was the last time >> Well, I first met her and backed up with her because she was working at the store. >> Okay. So did you just Did you >> went by and get gas and there she was. >> Okay. All right. So and part of the reason I wanted to talk to you over here in the truck kind of away from everybody is I want you to be able to be completely honest with me without saying listening in on you. >> Yeah. >> Um so you met her up there at the store. Did you hang out with her there at the store? >> I just talked a little bit and got my gas and left. >> All right. Um how many times did you see her? >> Um probably about three or four times. >> Okay. >> Just stopped by and got my gas. >> Was that at the store every time? Did you ever go back to and I'm not accusing you of anything. I'm just asking. >> Yeah. >> Um did you ever go back to her room or where she staying or anything like that? >> No. >> Okay. >> Yes, sir. >> Never been anywhere like that. >> Just at the store. >> Okay. All right. Um and when was the last time you saw Nora? >> Um about four or five days ago, which is when I was in the school. >> Okay. >> And probably cats. >> Okay. If there was would there be any reason then for there to be anything Nora or Coyote or anybody else to have anything, you know, from this house? Like for example, if I had mail, like I had a bill that had this address on it. Would that there be any reason for them to have that? Okay. >> Chelsea Chelsea that used to live here. >> Okay. Who's Is Chelsea friends with them? >> She used to live with them. >> Okay. How long did Chelsea move out? >> I guess back in '22. >> Do you know about it? >> No, not really. >> About when? '22? >> When I went to prison. >> When did you go to prison? >> Uh I stayed in for about a year. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, was that January of '22? >> Yeah. >> She got out in January of '23, right? Okay. >> But she was still here during that time. >> Okay. All right. So, January of '22 and then January '23 you're back >> Yeah. >> here. Okay. So, day after the hurricane then, where do you go that day? >> Here. >> Okay. >> And you're here all the time pretty much. >> Um well, pretty much means you >> Taking her back and forth to work. >> Okay. >> And going to my boss man's house. >> Okay. You and your boss man's house. >> 349. >> 349. Okay, that's 2385. Who's your boss man? >> Phil Thomas. >> Phil Thomas. Okay. Do you You went to Lake City what? Take her to work? >> Supposedly I picked her up from work. >> Okay. >> Cuz I I got foggy memory. >> Okay. >> I was supposed to pick her up from work. We got money from my boss man cuz we needed money. >> Mhm. >> And we took went to Wendy's and get got some meat. >> Which Wendy's did you go to? >> 190 >> 190? Did you ever go over there to help move some furniture or anything? [music] >> That was last night. >> That was last night? Okay, cuz I was told you were there at 8:00 in the morning. Sunday morning. >> Yeah. I think so. I might have. I can't remember. It's like yesterday, but yeah. >> Okay. So, you don't know where you were? >> I have a bad memory. >> Okay. Um but I'm going to just going to ask you this point-blank. >> Yeah. >> I asked you about that, and you gave me a whole detailed story about that tree coming down and coming in the house and everything else. >> last night. >> Okay. So, you can remember that. >> Yeah. >> But, you know, there's a dead girl, right? >> Yeah, that's what I was going to >> that you know. >> Yeah. >> It's been a part of your life. >> Yeah. >> But, you can't remember basics about where you've been the last few days. >> This is where that case quietly turned. Bowen never confessed, but in that truck, his story stopped holding together. He could describe a fallen tree from that same weekend in perfect detail, yet couldn't say where he'd been when it actually mattered. >> Cuz you're telling me 12 hours difference. You're telling me 8:00 p.m., and then I ask you about 8:00 a.m., and you said, "Oh, well, it might be 8:00 a.m." That's a big difference, John. I learned. >> That's what you're telling me. >> Yeah. So, you don't remember going over there to help >> I don't remember going over there at all. >> Okay. >> Cain's house. >> Okay. I'm just saying though, that's why I'm asking you, cuz you were the one that went, not me. >> Yeah. I don't remember going over there at all. >> So, you were there at 8:00 p.m.? >> At night, yeah. >> That night. Okay. >> Around 5:00, I think. >> Okay. So, you don't remember being over there at all at 8:00 a.m.? Is there anybody that would tell me a lie about that, that you being there? Is there any reason >> Cuz I know I helped him move move a couch a love seat a love seat out of the van and pull up on the porch. >> Okay. >> While um Don Valen, he knows we got the element, was cutting up the um cutting up the um couch to get it out, but they didn't even get the couch fully cut yet. >> Mhm. >> He had to take her to work at 11:00. He drove her and left her going um at 10:30. >> She works 11:00 at night. Okay. Okay. All right. And then you've been When she's there, do you go out You ever just go out riding around or >> Mhm. >> Okay. What do you do when you go out riding around? >> Um sometimes I go to my boss man's house, sometimes I just go to the Edge, go to Patty's, >> Mhm. >> and usually back here. >> Okay. Where's the Edge? >> On Turner Place. >> Okay. So, all of these people are on Turner Place? >> Yeah. >> Okay. But now I'm going to pose questions to you here cuz I'm just trying to give you an opportunity, okay? Um you understand if you were in my shoes >> Yeah. >> how this is starting to sound a little bit, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. If you had some kind of involvement in this, but you didn't actually kill her, I think you need to go ahead and tell me before we go around in these circles and I come back and this if you were there, >> Mhm. >> you had anything at all, you know, not necessarily with killing her, but getting taking her body where we found it, you had anything to do with it, there's enough evidence more than enough to tell me I'm going to prove it. >> Right. >> It's not It's not a question of my if >> Yeah. It's when. >> I'm And I know a lot of people. I'm being completely blunt with you. If you were there, I'm going to find out, okay? And I'm going to be able to prove it without a doubt. So, again, if you were there, I really wish you would just There's nobody else listening. It's just me and you in here. I I wish you would just tell me now so we can save our both some both some hassles and we can go ahead and move forward. >> Sorry, I was not involved in >> Okay. >> Not at all. >> Not at all. Okay. Cuz here again, I want you to think about this. Let's say I find Chelsea today. And let's say she's living 30 miles away. >> Right. >> And then that kind of eliminates people who could have left the mail here from here. >> Right. >> Doesn't that kind of pretty much points back to you? >> Right. >> Do you understand what I'm >> I know she was here and like six like six months earlier. >> Okay, but still or if I just can pretty much you was at the whole time. Do you understand what I'm saying? I'm not trying to jam you up here. My concern is is that somebody else has kind of put you in a bind. >> Right. >> And that's what I'm getting at. >> Yeah, I've been doing that my whole life. >> Well, and that's I that I can understand. And if somebody's done that and if they were threatening you or whatever else >> I get threatened >> or or for that matter if they just paid you a bunch of money cuz I see where you're at. I know you just had that storm. I know you need the money. I know you need to fix things around here. >> Right. >> If it's something like that where they said, "Here's Here's your $500, you know, get her out of my house." >> Right. >> If that happened, I just need to know the truth. >> No. >> Okay. Regardless of what you tell me, I can tell you I'm going to let you get out of this truck and walk back in your house. >> Thank you very much. >> So, I mean I just but I just want to understand what happened and if it's something got out of hand that's why we're asking. >> Yeah. What if I tell you you're going to take jail? >> I'm not going to take you to jail. Not right now, but I need to know the truth. >> No. >> I need to know the truth. >> No. >> Clearly there's more to this. >> No, it's just three That's three. >> Okay. Why are you We're not even talking about that. >> I think just cuz I'm not supposed to be here. It's all right to be here. >> Mhm. >> And you're some kind of prison. This is my problem. >> Mhm. >> And Facebook is down. I'm braced up. I'm supposed to be at >> I'm going to do one thing real quick and it doesn't change any of our dynamic here, but because you told me you might you're afraid of going to jail right now, right? Which means you probably don't actually feel free to walk away from here, right? So, I'm going to read you your rights. That's only because you might not feel like you're free to leave. So, I have to read them, okay? >> Mhm. >> I'm just going to do that real quick. >> So, my right my right >> No, no, no. No. That's just the way that works. So, is if if I even think you're not free to leave, well, I'm still going to do it just so I can say I did, okay? You have the right to remain silent. You said you understand your rights. Okay, I just wanted to make sure because again, when people feel like they're not free to leave I that's when I have to do that. That doesn't mean I'm taking them to jail, but if they feel like they're not free to walk away from me, I got to read them their rights. You You swore to me that you didn't have anything to do with this girl. Have you heard anything? >> Just um from [ __ ] last night. >> Mhm. >> I was I was I was on the porch with Dad when she called him saying that um cuz she left the job and went Well, I don't know Debbie or somebody went over to talk to Nora at the same time. >> Mhm. >> And she was on the phone with him saying that she has to go with her to go identify the body. >> Mhm. >> And he says breaking news >> Mhm. >> on the phone. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And no idea how something from I mean, think about how crazy that is is from your house, man. You know what I mean? I mean, that's that's crazy. >> Yeah. >> But I really need you to be certain here. Because if I come back and I find where anything with your DNA on it that is on her, you and I are having a very different conversation. And I'm not going to be very appreciative of you not telling me the truth. Okay? Okay? I mean, I'm being honest with you. So, again, I'm going to ask you one last time, did you take her body out there? Okay. Did you have any contact with her at all? Let me ask you this, did Nora try to himper to you or anything? Okay. >> I just I just want you in the jail. >> Yeah. >> For six god damn years or something like >> Mhm. Okay. And you haven't seen Coyote since >> She was little. >> Okay. >> It's um it's most definitely not shorter, man. To go from Alice Dale to here. >> Yeah. Instead of going all the way back and third town. >> No, that's way shorter. You could get on I-75 and come up to I-10 and just shoot over to I-137. But you went you went way out of the way, Leonard. Way out of the way. I I think Can you understand from our standpoint? I mean, and I know you're saying you don't remember. I'll be honest with you, I kind of see it as untruths. And we're not just talking about standing here versus standing there. I mean, you you've said some things that are completely opposite of what your wife and some of the other people here said. You've said some things that are completely opposite of what video has shown us. >> Right. >> And and we're struggling. I want to believe you. But and you know what else is down Hal Road? A dead girl. Right where you went to. >> In the end, John Leonard Bowen never confessed to killing her. He didn't have to, though. In June of 2025, nearly 2 years after that Sunday in the field, a Columbia County judge found him guilty of second-degree murder in the death of 18-year-old Coyote Turner and sentenced him to life in prison. For what he did to her afterward, the burning, the effort to make sure she'd never be found or named, he was also convicted of tampering with evidence and given an additional 23 years. The details the footage never showed you are the ones that closed the case. That piece of mail beneath her body carried an address he'd been living at, but he had hidden from the state because Bowen wasn't just a family friend. He was a registered sex offender, already in jail for lying about where he lived. There was a store camera that caught him changing his clothes just up the road from where she was found. There was a timeline he couldn't keep straight even as he remembered a fallen tree in perfect detail. Investigators never publicly said how she died. In some ways, they didn't need to. But what stays with you isn't the verdict. It's what her own mother said before any of this was proven, that this was a man who could never have hurt her daughter, someone who'd been around for years. Because the danger here wasn't hiding in the dark at the edge of some field. It had a name everyone knew [music] and a place at the table for the better part of a decade and still no one saw it. So, the question this case leaves behind isn't how it ended. It's how many people were close enough to protect her and never once thought that they needed to. This one stays with you the way that it stayed with me. Leave a word for her family in the comments and my condolences. If you want more cases told the way they deserve to be told, you know where to find us.
