from Jacksonville police officers who were brutally humbled by a private investigator I do not have to speak to you sir to an off duty officer who thinks he can punish people for the color of their skin got my rights to do anything I want to do I'm a police officer here are five cases of corrupt cops who realized they'd been caught starting with these Jacksonville cops and the lecture it took for them to come to their senses all right now we get to meet one another how are you doing what's going on with you following me are you an investigator of some sort can I ask why you pulled me over sir I pulled you over because the young ladies came over there and said you've been following her since she left the airport yesterday so I want to know who you are have I committed a crime on the 5th of June 2015 Michael Hoffman a First Amendment activist and private investigator was pulled over by a Jacksonville police officer Hoffman had been conducting an onfield investigation but the target of the investigation had noticed that she was being followed and had reported him for stalking no but I'm in conducting an investigation have you been following that young lady I mean if you're an investigator investigate what but if you're somebody harassing her or stalking her that's against the law me pulling you over to find out who you are is me doing my job you mind getting that light out of my eyes Sir it's night time I don't know you from Adam's house C I don't know if you have weapons in here you keep move my hands right here well I don't know if you have weapons in here man so I'm going to keep my flashlight right here where it is I don't have it in your face that would be in your face I have it down I'm trying to show you that respect I'm Illuminating the vehicle for my safety now would you agree that I've answered every question you've asked me and all I asked you was one single question do you have your driver's license registration Improvement Insurance on you have you pulled me for a tri for violation sir no sir I've already explained that to you now you can play the back and forth rig a rooll all you want to I've explained to you why I pulled you open okay and young said have PC not suspected of committing a Crimea is that you've been following this young lady and she you know that sir did you see that did you see that came back by why' you come back by I myself you have no probable cause to pull me for a traffic violation I asked you why you pulled me you because the young lady said that you've been following her since yesterday so you you you believe everything everyone says to you I'm conducting an investigation okay will you conduct right away sir at this point in time I elect to not say anything I elect to speak to my uh say anything without having my attorney present that would be Eric Friday call call tell him to come up here we're at the um 8100 block of bpress just you're aware you're being videotaped I do not care do you get my good you just take everything everyone comes after you okay I just said someone pull a gun on me you going to go investigate that after what who pull a gun on you yeah the Jacksonville officer demanded identification but Hoffman engaged his Fifth Amendment and exercised his right to remain silent without his lawyer present my name is Mike sir you can address me as Mike okay that's fine Mike that's a good great beginning and and and the reason why is because like I said you're car man description we were given do mean I respect that you're talking to an ex law enforcement officer bu all right we we're not we're not saying you're guilty of anything we didn't say that then you are illegally detaining me I asked the last stany that left what was his reason for stopping me he didn't stop me for trafficing let me first let me calm down I shouldn't be yelling at you thank you I shouldn't be doing I'm not I'm not I'm not yelling at you this Deputy that stopped me sir did not articulate he would sto me for a traffic violation then I asked him what his probable cause was or what crime he suspect me to pinning or what reasonable or Reason the case the case is as I stated is that we had a description of of a vehicle your vehicle match that and we're just here to determine no you're not the one or yes you are the one very see the law protects me I don't have to answer questions no yes sir but we're asking for your cooperation M and can we get that Co cooperation I'm cooperating the fact that I extend my rights doesn't mean I'm not cooperating sir would you agree with that sir I but I don't understand it if you said you're an ex law enforcement officer and you understand that when somebody calls us and says hey this vehicle was following me okay and we stop you and we ask you questions regarding you either you did or you didn't correct would do you think a citizen if they weren't doing anything wrong with say no I'm not doing that sir as a law enforcement officer I realize how Leo's twist people's words let me finish speaking okay yes please do they twist people's words any attorney and all you three gentlemen will no you don't ever speak to the cops I what say you don't ever talk to Cops never you never talk to Cops unless you're legally obligated to nothing good can come from that I'm very well of my rights very very well aware of my rights now I understand you're doing no fault with that you are doing your job okay and the mere fact that I'm exercising my legal rights does not make me uncooperative okay now the fact that someone called you and said they're harassing doesn't give you the general order just to stop people no that wasn't that wasn't the reason why because a person in a vehicle that match your description was doing that we didn't say you were doing it okay and and that's what we're coming down to but how do you define harassing someone just close to they were harassing did you ask her what they did did you ask ask the person you said a v a red truck the following person since she came in town is that a crime we haven't determined that we just want sure do you see where I'm going with this sir I mean I understand these guys are doing your job do you see how this goes several other officers arrived at the scene proving how incompetent they all were since they needed so many heads to tackle that situation to make matters worse they all pared the same thing as the first cop and so Hoffman was forced to reveal that he used to work in law enforcement and so understood all they were doing and all they could do I do not have to speak to you sir and that does not give you the right to detain me until you get some information to charge me with the crime you don't get to search and search until I say something or you twist something I say to use it against me you gentlemen have a dangerous job there is 19 unsolved murders in this city okay you've got much better things to do than [ __ ] with me okay I'm not a threat to anyone we're not here what sir there's five cops here the gentleman that pull told me and if he had any reasonable articul suspicion is no longer here I'm assuming I don't know where he is or where he's gr you three gentlemen have no firsthand information no firsthand no firsthand information this officer that pulled me over said he spoke with some individual that says apparently I was doing something was classified as harassment we said we didn't say you you didn't say that I said that officer that your vehicle was told now were you here see see this camera here that officer stood here and said he spoke to a woman that said I was harassing her and following her for days I didn't say you three the the black gentleman that the gentleman that was here a few moments ago that has now left the scene so once again gentlemen hold on let me calm down go ahead once again gentlemen if you have a reasonable articulate suspicion of me committing a crime or about to commit a crime you have a right to detain me ask me for my ID which why I will oblig with as I'm required by law short of that standard you are illegally detaining me I've asked to be free to go and you telling me until I give you some information I'm not free to go that is a violation of my rights sir do you understand that he's going going to give us Ry that's all you know what guys I would love to give it to you because I used to be Wonder but because I'm aware of my rights and because of my life experiences with law enforcement I choose to exercise my rights not to be difficult sir you guys have much more an earful on the deception of their ways demanding that they do better luckily his passionate rant was enough to keep them quiet and force them to leave these Jacksonville cops were certainly corrupt but the next officer will have you wondering how he got into law enforcement in the first place his attitude and manner of approach are better suited to wild beasts than police officers LIC out for what because I told you to you haveen have a reason sir you didn't you didn't pull me over you pull license out or I'll hit for a back up and I'll take the car get your driver's Li call supervisor get your driver's license out right now call your supervisor two cousins had just finished shopping from a mall and gotten into their car when an officer knocked on their window they had noticed him following them and so weren't surprised when he came up to confront them his reason they looked suspicious supervisor you you're not pulling me over nether you get your driver's license now show me id call your supervisor what do you need my ID for sir well because you you want to run your mouth to me no because you was looking at my license plate for what exactly what you don't have the right to asked him officer that's all we asked him what what infraction or what crime do you suspect us of committing and then we asked him for a supervisor he said you're not getting a supervisor hang hang tight for me for just one second yes sir cuz we definitely want to file a complaint if you don't get his name you can at least give a description of him if say this officer he looked like this he was driving an unmarked vehicle at this location this date this time they might be able to figure that out look at the car they gave him that's how much they care about them it's Rusty look at the car they give me I got a hole in my Fender about the size of my hand I can stick through from the rust going out there that's a 2008 with 188,000 mil on it I call her barely faithful yeah so well we appreciate you being civil with us and and and trying to really figure out what really was going on because look well any way for me to figure out what's going on is ask questions I don't know what's going on and I know y'all know I know impd I know y'all got bigger and better things to do then come up here for some some uh Rogue security officer man but he just kind of he just like he made our experience so bad man and it was unnecessary and he just okay Place says there's no reason for a traffic stop at this point so there's no legal requirement for you to identify yourself to an officer at that point so if you don't want to give him ID then you know you don't to give him idea eventually another officer from the Indiana Metro had to intervene speak to the men and assure them that the off-duty cop was in fact being completely irrational and unprofessional he let the two men without Much Ado while the off-duty officer was certainly a nutcase the next cop is a much bigger and much arrest you will provide your ID or what or are you going to be placed in custody uh for what for OG you'll have a second charge for that okay I would suggest you not do this and you call a supervisor I would love to call my supervisor I would why don't you go ahead and get preor on the phone okay I already have a couple attorneys on the phone as well that's fine and because I spoke out at the public meeting you're trying to arrest me for failing to provide your identific no what I'm what I'm being charged for no you're not being charged with anything yet well you have investigating if I don't provide my ID I understand what you just said to me that you said that you had to be given a charge to provide your identification I'm telling you that's wrong okay I all you need is I it's not
