So, I I told him to leave it in the car. Okay. And I just felt much more comfortable >> um with turning a weapon over to his attorney. Absolutely. >> You know, rather than law enforcement cuz I know thing situations can get out of hand. >> I'm okay with that. Yeah. >> So, and that's basically what happened. >> When you got in the car and you was asking about the gun, did you ask him about the incident that happened? >> Uh he said I did ask him about that. In the apartment complex, he said he was walking towards the back by the candy lady that sell snacks and he saw the boy. Uh because a couple of months David had got into an altercation at a bar downtown. And he was jumped on by a group of boys, him and his friends. >> Jumped on by the boy that was at >> Yes. the boy that was at the >> So your son and the boy that he saw at the apartment complex, the one that got shot, him and David had had an altercation at a bar downtown. Do you know what bar or when that might have happened? >> Was a report filed or anything that you know what? >> Okay. Well, David, he did get arrested for disorderly conduct. >> Okay. >> Cuz I guess he was intoxicated. He uh got out the next day on his own recognize. >> Yeah. Or or um Yeah. So he did get out on that and um >> so that the day he got locked up with a disorderly conduct that was the day he got into the argument. >> Yeah. When it happened like Saturday night going into Sunday morning. >> I got you. Same same period of time. >> Same period of time. And he did get out like 8 or 9 that morning. He was able to sign himself out. But yeah, so he said he was going to the candle, walking toward, you know, one of the other buildings in the back of the apartment complex. He saw a boy. The boy saw him and he said a boy was like, "Um, what's up, dude?" to um come here or something like that. And so David say as he got closer he saw that he had the boy had a weapon in his pocket >> and he had his hand on it. So David was like dude what you doing? You know whatever what words was exchanged? I have no idea. So David said at that point he felt threatened because he saw the weapon. He saw the boy hang on his on his u you know on the handle or whatever the case is. And he said, so at that point, I don't know if he had the the weapon in his shirt or his pocket. I don't know. But he said that he went for it. And he said at that point, I don't >> David went for his >> David went for Yeah. And he said that at that point the boy tried to grab his weapon and pull it out. And they went to struggling, tussling over the firearm. David said David, from what he told me that the boy pulled the trigger and that's when he got he got shot. So, if I understand it, and correct me if I'm if I'm missing uh or or or saying it wrong, but the way that you understand it with David telling you is that the boy that got shot got shot with this gun while they were wrestling over. >> Yes. Prosecutors initially charged the suspect with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during a crime. Moving forward, several charges were dismissed, including both felony murder and aggravated assault charge. Malice murder was reduced to voluntary manslaughter. He entered a guilty plea to voluntary manslaughter and firearm possession during the crime. On December 4th, 2023, he was sentenced to 20 years of confinement, followed by 5 years probation and 100 hours of community service. The second suspect was charged for the same things, but as the case progressed, most of those charges were later dismissed. In the end, the suspect entered a guilty plea to aggravated assault. On April 13th, 2023, he was sentenced to 5 years of confinement followed by 10 years probation. The victim, Couttoran, sadly succumbed to his injuries on September 23rd, 2021 at the age of
