What seemed like a normal summer evening at a well-known biker bar in Tribuko Canyon turned into a scene of unimaginable violence. As 911 calls flooded in and deputies rushed to the scene, they walked into a rapidly unfolding firefight. One that would leave multiple people dead, several wounded, and an entire community shaken. >> 911, do you have an emergency? I'm shot. Pick up the door open. Great. Pick up the door. Shut. I got it. I got it. >> [applause] >> The shooter is John Patrick Snowing, a 59-year-old retired police officer who spent decades carrying a badge and a gun. On this day, he has driven over 2,000 m with one purpose to find his aranged wife at her favorite bar on a Wednesday night. Deputies don't yet know who they're dealing with or how much ammunition he still has. All they know is this man is not afraid to pull the trigger. >> Uh, yes. I'm a cook's corner and we believe we hear gunshots. They said somebody's dead. >> Somebody's dead. >> But this moment didn't happen without warning. It started quietly in 2022. Marie [snorts] told Jon she wanted a divorce and he could not accept it. He began secretly breaking into her Facebook account, reading her private messages, saving screenshots. He was convinced she was being unfaithful with the regulars at a bar she [clears throat] frequented, a bar she called her place, a bar she had never once taken him to. He tracked every post, every photo, every check-in. And when he discovered she had downloaded a dating app in the summer of 2023, something in him shattered. He told her she would be dead within a year. August 4th, 2023. That was the last time they ever spoke, 19 days before the shooting. What Marie didn't know, what no one around her knew, was that John Snowing had already decided how this [music] was going to end. >> He's in the back. >> He's in the back. >> Yeah. >> Get the rifle. Get the rifle. >> Get the rifle. >> He's probably going up the hill. Launch it. >> I got it. >> He's coming up the right side of the hill. >> Right side of the hill. Cover the right. He had known for years that Marie went there every Wednesday for spaghetti night. Just like every other Wednesday, Marie would be there. But this Wednesday, so would he. That evening, he entered from behind the band's stage area, a handgun in each hand. Witnesses described him in a light blue flannel shirt and jeans. The first person he walked up to was Marie, 3 to four feet away. He took a shooting stance. He fired one round into his wife and kept going. After firing about eight rounds inside, he exited through the west door and kept shooting at patrons on the patio. He then walked to his truck in the upper lot, pulled a 12- gauge shotgun, and turned back around. That's when a regular at the bar ran toward the shooter. A man begged him not to. His answer was two words. [ __ ] no. Two steps up the ramp. The shotgun blast hit him in the chest. He wasn't a deputy. He wasn't armed. He was a man at a bar on spaghetti night who tried to stop a mass shooting with his bare hands and he died doing it. He's still He's peeking. He's still peeking. Do not move. >> All right, let me take command. >> Do not move. >> If you MOVE DOWN ONE, >> YOU cover right. >> I got right. >> I got I got I got left. You cover him. I got I got suspect. >> At the top of the hill, near a large tree at the southern edge of the upper parking lot, deputies finally have eyes on the suspect. He's standing beside his truck. The same truck he drove more than 2,000 m to get here. They give him verbal commands. He does not comply, and what happens next happens in seconds. Do not move or we will shoot you. >> Eyes on him. I got him. >> Go, go, go. >> Deputies push towards the upper lot and that's when they see him. A man near the gray truck, blue shirt, fitting the description, but the man near the truck wasn't the suspect. He was a victim caught in the wrong place at the wrong moment. Deputies detained him, but later they cleared him. >> Hey, deputies are walking down the hill. Deputies are walking down the hill. You got walking down THE HILL. BE CAREFUL. >> WATCH YOUR CROSSFIRE. I'm moving on. >> I'm on your left hand. Coming down there. Come down. Right. Coming down on it. >> I'm moving. On your left, Hans. >> I'm on your left hand. >> Stay together. Stay together. Hey, put him in cuffs. >> You got it. >> Yeah, I got it. >> There's this guy right here. This is a shooter. This is a shooter. This is the shooter right here. >> This is This is our guy. This is it. >> While some deputies cuff Snowling's body, others push toward the bar. They still don't know if he came alone. But they know one thing. Somewhere inside that building is the woman this entire night was built around. And right now, no one knows if she's still alive. >> Clear every vehicle. >> Clear every vehicle. >> 451, my victim, a gunshot window to the head, has no pulse and is not breathing. This is our guy. >> This is This is our guy. This is it. >> Clear my vehicle. >> Hey, clear each vehicle. >> Victim. >> Let's try this victim. Let's press restart. >> Where's the shot? No signs of life. >> Is there anyone else down over here? >> CPR, dude. >> You got pulse right or no? >> I have no pulse right now. >> Uh he has no pulse right now. He has a gunshot wound in the back. >> Okay. >> He's uh he's got a chest on it already. >> Okay. >> I would head inside. I think there's more people. >> They already chest still on back there. >> Okay. >> We got more in here. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Inside Cook's corner, deputies are helping victims. A cook in his red apron shot through his elbow [music] while the rest of the kitchen ran. A patron shot through the back near his heart, alive only because paramedics reached him in time. Two band members hit mid-performance, one by a bullet that passed [music] through his own guitar before lodging in his stomach. Three people found deceased [music] on the exterior grounds and near the stage, they find Marie Snowing, bleeding, but alive. The woman, John Snowing, [music] drove 2,000 m to find. And when Marie finally sits down with [music] investigators, what she tells them will stop every one of them cold because she had known word for word exactly what her husband was going to do. >> Do you have any injuries yourself? >> Any injuries? I don't think so. Okay, let's [laughter] walk outside. We'll bring her right with us. Okay, >> let's go, sir. We want to clear this out here. Do >> you guys have anybody else back there? >> Anybody else? >> Anybody else back here? >> Hey, let's clear this. >> Good. >> Hey, sir. I need you to GO FOR THE RESTAURANT, PLEASE. >> I understand that. Go over there. I need you to go there right now. >> Hold on. We're trying to make sure everything's clear right now. >> One right there. >> There's only one here the whole time. >> There's one over. >> Okay. We still see everybody out in front. Sir, please. >> Okay. Okay. Okay. Come on. Come out. >> My person is right there. My friend died. >> I was We need you to step over there. We'll come talk to you. >> My friend that way. Grab your stuff. Go around. Go around. >> Go, go, go. You're good. Out to the front. Out to the front. >> Let's go check up here. Hey, we're going to go check up top. >> Hey, this is only one shooter. >> Okay, thank you. Is there anybody else up here? No. >> No one else that's hurt or anything that needs a kind of care? >> I know. >> Okay, thank you guys. Just wait right here, sir. Wait right here. I I need Just wait right here, sir. >> Okay. Hang on. Hang on. Where's >> anybody else heard inside? >> No. Please check yourselves. Check Check the people to the left and right of you just in case. >> I'll check this one. I just got to take a leave real bad. Sorry. >> Anybody else inside that's hurt? Check to check the people to the left and right of you. Make sure they're okay. >> I checked the bathrooms already. They're good. >> ANYBODY ELSE BACK HERE HURT? >> Please check each other left and right just to make sure just in case. >> Nine people were shot that night. Three of them did not survive. They were victims who were not involved in anyone's divorce or anyone's [music] jealousy. They were people at a bar on a Wednesday evening. One of them there to celebrate her birthday. The man who did this had spent 30 years wearing a badge. He had sworn an oath to protect people. People exactly like the ones [music] bleeding on that floor. And he chose deliberately and methodically to become the thing he once hunted. His wife Marie survived. She told investigators she never believed Jon was capable of this. that [music] despite everything, the threats, the obsession, the abuse, she never saw [music] this coming. John Patrick Snowling died at the scene in the same parking lot he pulled into [music] less than 40 minutes earlier. What investigators recovered told the story of a man who came [music] prepared for a sustained assault. Weapons on his body, more inside his truck, and an entire armory waiting back at [music] his Camarillo home. Not a single officer was injured in the response. The case is classified as a homicide investigation.
