We're still [ __ ] arguing, and we're going to argue until we hash it out. He can continue to call the cops, you can continue to make your visits, but A, we haven't laid a hand on each other. B, we haven't touched the guns which are in that closet with a key. On May 7th, 2022, deputies with the Oconee County Sheriff's Office responded after a husband reported that his wife, Brittany Callaway, had left their home following an argument and made suicidal threats. The caller advised that Brittany had been drinking, was armed with a firearm, and had driven away in her vehicle. Hey. How you doing? Good. I just saw you. >> Yeah, we did. So, you miss Callaway? Yes. >> Okay. So, I don't know who it was that just called us about you. I know you told me you were having a hard night. Yes. And you were potentially thinking about hurting yourself. No. Okay. Did you mention something like that earlier? My husband and I are fighting. >> Okay. Okay. I get it. I've been there for a long time. Okay. >> headed home to him. Okay. But we are fighting. Okay. I understand that. Okay. I just I want to make sure that you're not trying to hurt yourself. Um No, ma'am. Okay. All right. Um do me a quick favor because he did say that you might have your firearm inside of your vehicle. It's in the back. I'm happy to show it to you. Oh, you don't have to show it to me. Um but can I actually get you to step out and just come talk to me away from the firearm? Yes, sir. All right. Sounds perfect. All right. 620, tell her. 10-4. Okay. We're good. Here, we can, you know, both just come to the back of your vehicle if you want to. Have a little seat here. You're you're fine. So, um what was a fight about tonight? What's happening? 6:30, what's your 20? I might be closer to you on the 401. I don't know. I'm about to turn on that little road. >> How long y'all been together? 16 years. Oh, man, that's a long time. I'm sorry. It's okay. It's okay. Look, we we all go through stuff with our spouses. No nobody has a perfect situation at all. It is so hard to like I got to get talk to him. What happened today that like kind of set things off? >> I don't know. He just got really angry and was done and left me on the side of the road. Where where did he leave you? In downtown Walkersville. I walked to Dobie's. I don't know. Have you been home ever since? I went home and got my car and just driving around trying to calm myself. Trying to collect myself because I'm not ready to talk to him. I got you. I got you. I'm just upset and I'm emotional. Okay. And I'm not ready to talk to him. Okay, and that's completely fine. You don't have to talk to him at all. I don't want to make sure that you are okay. I am. I'm fine. >> Since Since you left Dobie's, like have y'all communicated at all? No. >> Nothing. Okay. No. Okay. I'm fine. Were y'all eating in downtown Walkersville? No, we were going to meet up with friends. We got into a heated conversation and he left me. Or he told me to get out the car, so I did. Okay. What was the heated conversation about? I had an affair 7 years ago. And it's something he still holds on to. Meanwhile, he's had many female encounters. Okay. But he hasn't actually slept with them, so that just makes me the villain. While he is only treaded the line. He ain't out of line. And so I'm just emotional and I'm upset. So I've been driving around trying to calm my nerves cuz I'm not ready to talk to him. Okay. Go ahead. But I'm not harming myself. >> Okay. I just am not ready to talk to him. Okay. And that's completely understandable. You don't have to talk to him. I don't know if I would be, you know, willing to talk to somebody who left me on the side of the road, so. >> [laughter] >> But I do I do understand that like relationships are like very very complex. You know, y'all been together for a long time. Y'all have been through some stuff. You know. >> so sorry. I'm so Don't don't don't apologize. Don't don't be embarrassed. Don't apologize. Like I said, like we we all go through stuff. Okay. This This is not This is not anything that you should be embarrassed about at all. I'm My number one concern was just, you know, that. I'm PTO treasurer. I'm a normal person. Okay. We We are all normal. Don't don't be embarrassed. Don't think that, you know, because of, you know, this, that, or the other, you know, like you can't go through stuff. Everybody goes through stuff. If somebody says that, you know, they don't go through stuff and, you know, they're putting it on like they have like a perfect life, that is so untrue. Okay. So so don't don't feel ashamed, you know, by anything that you're going through. It's okay. It's okay. We just Just giving giving the information, you know, that we were giving. >> I'm not using it. I just needed this time. I just needed time. I got you. Because I was still angry. I got you. I was so sorry. I'm so sorry. Don't don't don't apologize. Like you you are okay. Question though. Okay, because I am smelling, you know, like >> I have had a couple of drinks. >> Okay. I'm not drunk to the point of I'm I'm happy to take sobriety or anything else. Okay. I'm not Okay. I just didn't want to be home with him at this point. I get you. I get you. >> sorry. >> you. I will tell you I will tell you this though, you know, like being upset and being behind the wheel is 10 times worse than, you know, like being impaired by that alcohol or anything else. Okay? And I'm happy to sit here. I'm sorry. Don't be like this. I am. All right. Well, what do you Here, just sit on the bumper of your car. And I'll talk to him for a second. You're you're fine. I'm sorry. You you are fine. Don't be embarrassed. Like I said, you're all over the place. Okay. Like this this is nothing that you should be ashamed about. We we all have relationship problems. Okay? There's nothing that you need to be ashamed about. Ma'am. I'm Deputy Hall. What's your name? My name is Britney Calloway. Britney Calloway? Miss Calloway, uh we were told that you had uh made statements about wanting to hurt yourself. Is that true? My husband and I were in a fight. Did you make mention of the fact you wanted to hurt yourself? I did to him. Okay. Do you I'm not >> Are you going to hurt yourself? Do you have plans of hurting yourself? >> No. If I call an ambulance and have them come down here and talk to you, will you be okay with that? Yeah. Okay. So, what I want you to do is just focus on my fingertip with your eyes and your eyes only. Keep your head still. Do you understand? Focus on your finger with my eyes. Yes, with your eyes and your eyes only. But, I want you to keep your head still. Do you understand? Yes, ma'am. Okay. Deputies conducted standardized field sobriety tests on Brittany. Although she was a little off balance, deputies determined through the test that she was not impaired to the extent that she could not safely operate a vehicle. So, I know that you have been drinking. Yes, ma'am. I don't think that, you know, you are impaired, you know, to the point that you shouldn't be operating a vehicle. But, like I said, you having those drinks in your system, plus you being upset, not necessarily, you know, like the best set of circumstances, you know, to be operating a vehicle. Okay? Cuz even, you know, if you're driving, you know, while you're upset, I do believe that that could be more dangerous, you know, than driving while you're impaired. Okay? So, um I know you said that you don't, you know, you're not ready to have a conversation with your husband or anything like that. But, um if at all possible, is there somebody that you can call, like your sister or somebody that, you know, could actually come and get you from here? I can call him to come pick me up. Would you be comfortable with that? I mean, he's the one that can't call the cops, so I'm kind of It's just my my my number one concern is you and your safety, not, you know, what he has going on, you know, at the house or anything like that. I'm concerned about you. You know, visibly, you're upset. Okay, I know a lot's been said tonight. My concern is you and what happens with you from this point forward. I just want to go home. Okay. I'm sorry. >> It's okay. Now, has has he been drinking, too, tonight? Not for a while. Okay. Just since dinner, probably. And then he went home and I went somewhere else. I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. >> You don't need to apologize to us for anything. Okay? Like I said, when I checked on you back there, my my concern, you know, was that you, you know, we're okay. So. I don't want to be a nuisance. You're not a nuisance. No, well, my goal is. You're not a nuisance. Would you mind telling me where the firearm is, where the gun is? It's in the back of her vehicle. Should you? Just tell me where it is and I'll see about getting it. It's in the back seat. Okay, I see it. I see it. I see it. And I said, you know, like we all go through stuff. Do I need to call him to pick me up? Are Are you Are you okay with that? >> [snorts] >> Okay. Okay. Those are my car if you want to follow >> Okay, that's completely fine. I'm so sorry. Don't apologize. Okay, like you you are completely completely fine. Like I said, we're all human, we all go through stuff. Here, please just We'll close your door. We can just go back to my vehicle. Hold on. Hello. Hey, how you doing, Mr. Calloway? Yeah. Hey, this is Deputy Glendower with the County Sheriff's Office. Yes. I know that you have had a few drinks tonight. I don't know how many you've had, um, but I'm wondering, do you think that you might be able to drive to pick up your wife? Yes, I mean If you're not, um, we will make other arrangements. I can drop her off at home or something like that. Um If you drop her off, I think that would be best. Okay. Okay, thank you so much. Thank you. All right, bye-bye. Okay, so I'll hang that up. I was so sorry. I was so Mrs. Calloway, you know why I'm laughing right now? It's because we've told you so many times it's okay. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. All right? Yes. Yes, sir. It's okay. Everything's okay. Let's Let's just come to my truck. We'll sit in the back. It's climate controlled. It's quiet. It's well-lit. Getting in my truck doesn't make you go anywhere, okay? Let's just step in there where it's quiet. Come on. Yes, sir. Okay? Yes, sir. EMS personnel evaluated her condition, but she refused medical treatment and did not express active suicidal intent. She was cleared by EMS. Deputy Hall cleared the firearm and decided to transport her home. Ma'am, can I talk to you a moment, ma'am? >> Yes, you can. Um Can I Can I go? Yes, ma'am. Yes, she say uh do you want him to have the firearm tonight, ma'am, or or what do you want him to do? That's fine. Okay. All right. It's unloaded. The The the ammunition is in the back of the car. She's upset. She's embarrassed. There's a number of things. Um uh She's obviously upset about the the disagreement you all had. Um I'm not telling you what to do. I can't tell you what to do. She did tell me that it was just a It was a It was a verbal fight. It wasn't physical. Uh however, um what I would recommend is letting letting uh cooler heads prevail tonight. Separate tonight. Sleep in separate rooms if you need to. And take it up tomorrow. Yeah. Uh She's got her keys. Her car was Her car was left on the side of Ashton Neal Road on the other side of Cullen Perry. Um with uh everything total everything considered everything totally we're a little bit on the concerned side about her driving. Yeah, sure. Uh so that's why I brought her home. Thank you. Um again my suggestion is stay away from each other let cooler heads prevail and pick up have a have a rational talk or rational conversation tomorrow. All right. I appreciate that a lot of it. Yes, sir. You got your driver's license, please? Later that night deputies were dispatched back to the Calloway residence after a physical domestic disturbance was reported. Hello. It's us. We're arguing. We haven't touched each other and we're No, I'm smoking a cigarette so I can't step inside. Well, my vape broke. Okay, what's going on? We're still [ __ ] arguing and we're going to argue until we hash it out. He can continue to call the cops. He can continue to make your visits but A we haven't laid a hand on each other. B we haven't touched the guns which are in that closet with a key. Step out here for me a minute, please. What's going on? She says this is all on hashing it out night. Uh Um Was there anything physical? Was there anything physical? Let me see your arm. I don't know. Yours, ma'am? Where'd the redness on your knuckles come from? I don't know. There hasn't been anything physical between us. Where'd the knuckles Where'd the red marks on your knuckles >> the key to bust open the [ __ ] gun thing. And I I didn't get that far. >> What happened to your knuckles? How'd they get that way? I went to bust the thing the [ __ ] thing open. The key's not there. He's hidden it, so I can't get in. It's probably a good thing. Why were you trying to get in there to get the guns? Because we're arguing. I'm not actually going to [ __ ] do anything. We're arguing, and his result is call somebody. Call somebody because we're not going to [ __ ] argue about it. What you talked about what y'all were going to you you had told me yourself y'all were going to go and y'all were going to separate for the night and let cooler heads prevail for morning. Yeah, but cooler heads aren't prevailing. Did you try and separate for the night? No, we're [ __ ] arguing. I'm not cussing at you, ma'am. I'm not going to cuss at you >> at you.
