He may have had a chest seat on. And there's blood right there. So probably right here, but I have no [ __ ] clue. >> I was fine. Everybody by myself trying to cut his clothes off and they're all just pulling on me, telling me to help him. And I said, "Back up, back up." Like six times. And they literally just kept grabbing me and pulling on me. So I turned around and I swung at one dude and then he got all mad and started in my face. So I started fighting him. It's ridiculous. >> No, you're fine. >> Are you guys just looking or are you trying to leave? >> Well, no, we're not trying to leave, but we're also trying to like if you needed us for whatever reason. Um, but you guys are more than welcome to come in if you want and >> Yeah, we got so much paperwork. >> Oh, I understand that. But I mean, you know, I see a lot of people like doing whatever if there's like if you guys need drinks or anything, you need water. >> Did you guys see anything? >> I was out back. I didn't see nothing. Yeah, me and Johnny were out here and I we saw people running. >> Hear anything? >> Heard the heard what I thought was them knocking on the window and like knocking on the window. Then we see everybody running. >> Yeah, I was out back in there. >> Yeah. What did you hear? How many shots you think it was? >> I don't know. >> I know. I heard three of what I thought was knocked on. Do you know how many shots you thought you heard, Johnny? >> Three. We got bottles of water in here. >> I got a whole jug of water. >> We got cooks in here, too. So, if you guys need [laughter] food, we'll have donuts home. >> Oh, yeah. We're out. >> We We won't be inside then. Okay, guys. Take care. >> Six people from the crowd were arrested that [music] night with charges including felony aggravated battery on a peace officer, resisting obstructing, felony [music] attempting to disarm a peace officer, and criminal damage to property as one of them allegedly broke a door handle off a police squad. Using the surveillance footage, police were also able to identify the male who shot the victim as 29-year-old Adrien. He was charged with two counts of felony aggravated battery with a firearm and felony unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. The legal proceedings of his case, as well as the six other suspects arrested, are ongoing, and they are all presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. The victim who was shot was transported to a hospital in critical condition. And latest reporting indicates he survived with major injuries and faces a long and arduous path to recovery. The more than 9 minutes that ambulance and fire crews were blocked from safely accessing the victim may have contributed to the severity of the victim's injuries. There was a lot of use of force during this incident. And it's no coincidence. Using data from 1.5 million calls for service, a study from Tactical Science found that the biggest correlation related to use of force was the type of call officers were responding to. Furthermore, police responding to violence calls was one of the most common types of calls correlated with use of force. The speed of response also mattered with research indicating that fast responses were associated with higher force rates. The body cam footage is consistent with this research, showing what happens when officers respond to a violence call extremely quickly. A surprising statistic. The study also found though was that force was only used in 0.14% of all calls for service, making it quite rare. Use of force is a tool that most officers don't take lightly and use only when absolutely necessary. And looking at its involvement in cases like this, body camera footage helps us to understand the why of it all and to be as prepared as possible for anything that may happen during a call. And I've also had to disperse hostile crowds like this. But when officers can't even reach a gunshot victim without being attacked, that's not a policing problem. That's a community problem.
