On March 26th, 2024, officers received a call from an apartment complex about a man and woman sleeping in a unit they were getting ready for the next tenant. What they didn't know is that they had a key to get in, and they'll soon find out why. >> How are you this morning? >> You're both awake. >> Yeah, there's somebody in the bedroom. We had to break the door in because the hotel latch was on. >> Okay. Now the bedroom is locked. >> Okay. >> And it's a vacant unit that we're trying to get ready for moving and if possible. >> So tired of these >> anymore. Think we're outside just in case he get >> Can you see him from out there? >> Is there a window out there? One that already. >> Oh, you already did. Okay. Somebody in there. >> Hello. >> Wake up. [music] >> No. Get up. >> All right. Cool. We'll make it easy. >> Get up. >> Oh my goodness. >> Y'all don't live here, do you? >> No. >> No. Get up. Yeah. >> Both of you get up. >> I'm back. >> Okay. Get clothes on. >> By the door. >> Anybody else in here? >> No. >> You get up, too, my man. >> Yeah. Go ahead and get up, man. How'd y'all get in there? >> My door was unlocked. >> Can you ask me how they got the key? >> They said it was unlocked. >> No, we found a key. A key in here. >> How long y'all been staying here? >> Just last night. >> Where did they get the key? >> Just last night. >> Yeah. >> So, there's a key in the door. >> No, we found it. >> Where was that at? >> In the door. was on the rim. >> Oh, okay. So, >> where's yours clothes at? >> All right. >> Is this a changed clock or is this still from the old? >> Yeah, this is one of my newest line. >> All right, go. You can go ahead, man, if you need to. There ain't nothing in there real quick. How about you, man? Where's your pants at? You got them right there. >> All right, you can go ahead. I know what's his name. >> What's your name, man? >> All right. >> What's your name, boss? >> What's your name? >> No. 30 pants on. >> Just go ahead and throw it on a long time. >> Uh, she's coming with us, too. So, >> all right. No, I probably got to see or something. Put your pants on. >> She printed out. >> That's fine. Put your pants on. >> We're going to jail. >> Yeah. >> Both of us are going to jail. >> Yes. Water and brown. >> The dude that works here is the one that let us in here. >> Who's the one that let you in? the guy that works here. What's the name of >> Listen, unless you can give us a name and they can verify it's an employee, that's the only way you're not going to >> drop the van. Uh Jeremy, the white guy Jeremy, he drops the minivan. >> Is that an employee? >> That's an employee, correct? uh >> or vendor or Okay, cool. Well, then obviously if they're given a key by a vendor who has a key and said they can come in here, they are not trespassing. They've been given authority. Now they have to leave. We can make them leave and we can bar them. >> That's why we get in trouble. >> I'm not taking a deal. >> You can go ahead and finish putting your clothes on. >> Yeah, we're no need. There's just a lot of voices going on in here. So >> obviously >> vendor with a key >> that that's a vendor. So cool. >> So all right, future reference. >> Um >> ain't nobody's supposed to give you a key down here unless you go through the leasing office. Period. >> That's the only reason you're not going to jail right now. >> We're still going to get all y'all's info to make sure you're barred >> and then you won't be allowed on the property. >> Yeah, I've never seen her. I've seen him. I've never seen her. Can I come and get those? Good. I I don't even know. I don't even know. >> Either of y'all have IDs. >> I I know who you are. I just don't know your name. >> Me? >> No, him. I've seen I've been out with him before. >> You're not bar from here already? >> No, sir. >> Okay. Um, give this gentleman. Do you have your >> thing on you? >> Notepad. >> Take a leave. >> Yeah. Keep getting dressed cuz y'all going to have to pack everything up and get out of here. >> Don't worry. No. >> And don't start smoking in here. >> Let me get back out here. I feel that was going to happen. >> As soon as you said key, that's that was my next thing is cuz I know we've already had old maintenance dude that did all the master keys >> and I thought y'all had changed all the locks for those >> officially. So, I was wondering where we were at. >> So, um >> come here. Is this the gentleman who gave you the key, >> sir? >> Yes. >> YOU KNOW HIM FROM WHERE? I'M GOING FROM HERE >> FROM OVER HERE. >> I didn't give nobody a key. >> Where's the lady, >> babe? >> Don't lock my >> This is it. >> You know who you >> Yes, I know Wendy. Okay. I don't But I don't have a key. I didn't give nobody a key. >> I can't find my tools or my teeth. >> Okay. >> So, y'all can head out. >> I don't want to. >> Pretty sure that got out there. >> You have a key in your hand. It don't matter to me. I mean, he can say he didn't do it or not. I don't care. The fact is if you had a key and somebody told you to come in, you're able to say it and it's a vendor. >> I I can't say otherwise. That's for them to figure out and deal with. >> Who was that to her? >> I would be angry, too. >> We are little little >> little salty about it. >> You would think better or hope. >> Yeah. Well, also it puts her >> in jeopardy of stuff, too. So, I get it. >> I completely get it. >> Cuz I would assume that that's probably a uh Hey, we're also trying to help you out by giving you a job. Exactly. >> In some regard. >> Yes. >> Whether that be whatever it is. So, now I get it. But also, I'm not going to >> create an issue, a secondary issue in here. But now he says he can't find his tools either. I feel like that was be something that uh if that's your livelihood, you would want to >> or report it. And then also if a key went missing while you were doing things, >> the governing body of said apartment would uh want to be known. Was he supposed to be doing work here in here today? >> Uh I don't know here in this apartment, but he does work in other apartments, too. Yeah. >> Well, I was the only thing I can think of is was wondering if we wonder if he was like, "Hey, >> y'all can hop in here for the night. >> I I'm supposed to What's your date to work? >> Over here in the morning to do some stuff. Maybe he would call this." >> Um, that is not my position. I think she needs to call. >> I need to call. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Um, >> that's a good idea. All right. >> I will I will tell you >> she doesn't need to call >> because it's involving her. >> She's too close. >> Yeah. And she needs to vacate that and stay as far away from it as possible and say I don't do what you going to do to him cuz uh I have my own I have my own livelihood to deal with and >> it sounds like he's already done some stuff in this regard to her. if she wouldn't have said what she said. She must have put >> Yeah, I got I'm sorry. >> Yeah, I just don't think it's my >> Well, >> whoever's complete property manager is I don't know who that is. I know you're out here, but it's Brandon the >> Brandon the assistant. >> Okay, so assistant or like to go down. >> Huh? >> When we're done, we're just about done anyhow. >> But he's I don't I don't think he's ever truly given us I've never remember having any true like >> issues >> issues. I think maybe an overdose at some point or something like that, but nothing >> nothing that we've ever >> I mean >> I've never had like a I have to fight him or anything like that. But how you going to act with somebody that you know had access to this? You know, >> I'd be like, "Oh, yeah, thanks." You know, you're just thinking, you know, if you're homeless, just thinking, "Oh, thanks." You know, >> I don't think they >> housekeeping, >> right? >> So, do they um pay for your um post certification or are you guys going to >> They pay for it. Yeah, >> they pay for it. >> But it comes with a two-year contract >> like that you're going to stay here for two years. If not, >> of course, >> they make you pay for it. Did you rip this up? >> I can ask. We can we can find out. >> I don't know. >> Question for y'all. Um, so when he gave you the key, was there any kind of stipulation? Did y'all pay for it? Did you >> We just needed to be out by in the morning out in the room. >> Okay. I guess you'll >> So he So he clearly knows you. How do you know him? >> Um to a friend. >> Okay. How How did y'all get linked up for this? Cuz >> for a friend, >> you said, "Hey, I'm looking for a room." And >> they they they're like, "Hey, he works here. Contact him. >> Is this something he's done in the past?" >> He was in the midst of a conversation. You know what I'm saying? That was someone else. >> So, you're not aware that he's done this before or anything. You're just >> he happened to be >> right there when I was talking >> in the area when you're talking about, "Hey, I need somewhere for the night." And he's like, "Hey, I got you." >> Okay. >> Good storage. So, vendor let him in the key. So, it sounds like they're they're out off of uh on east side off Smoky Road area. Um I guess your vendor Jeremy was there. >> Um not specifically for this reason. Um they're talking about just needing somewhere for the night and I guess he offers up, hey, there's a key be out by the morning. >> And obviously overslept a little bit and uh everybody shows up. So, um >> I apologize. I mean, I know we weren't supposed to be here, but anyway, I really didn't think about it. So, to the people that own it, I'll probably >> Well, it's more on him than than you. I'll handle that with >> knowing you're not supposed to be here. >> This is the moment that officers heard over the radio that the male has warrants. >> Um, I'll go check that real quick. >> I mean, it's being >> What's your name? >> What's your last name? Yeah. >> Okay. Is it Kennedy or >> Kennedy, sir? You know, >> I know, but K. >> I know your face. I've been out with him. >> But it's the name and we're trying to make sure we got the right person. So, you gave him Kennedy, but have you given the name before? >> No. >> Huh? No. And >> you definitely have at some point. >> Cuz as soon as they said, I feel like you've given me that name before. Um, but yeah, so essentially Gabe Key offered it up for the night. They came over here. Did he bring y'all over here? >> Yeah. There we go. So, he's already confirmed he knows her. When he walked in here, he was like, "Yeah, I don't." So, >> yeah. Look, y'all. Either way, how this ends, you're not allowed back on my property. All right. >> You bar don't come back. You do. It's going to be the same >> two years. We do thing in two years. So, >> all right. I mean, I hate have either way, but it still happen. >> Do you have your ID on you? >> Uh, yeah. >> Okay. Three 66 >> 10 four back 26. >> Take the bag off. >> Drop everything else. Yeah, you can take his phone. Put my phone over >> here. Just leave it down. Put it on the ground. We'll we'll take it with him if he wants it. >> All right. Go ahead. Just face the wall right there for him. >> Does he have warrants? >> H warrants. >> Now he's got another. >> What are your warrants? What' you add to it? >> Why' we add to this? >> But now you're just going to add another charge. That's all you did. We either get him taken care of and we'd be done or we add another charge. And now we've added another charge, right? You were God either way. You knew it. As soon as he said Kennedy, I knew that was wrong. I might not know who you are when you say name, but I typically remember when I hear it. And that ain't it. Like you just said, you've been out with him before. Hey. Yeah, you're right. We check photos. You know this. >> All right, let's go. >> All right, come on. >> Let's go to the car. Let's go this way. >> I mean, she's going to have to get all this stuff. So, let's head to my car. Let's go. >> Let me show my cigarette. >> You got a lighter on you? >> Oh, >> we'll see. >> My car. >> Okay. Well, if you have one, I don't care to real fast at the back of my car. But he's gonna have to search you anyway. Um, take him to the side of the car and do a search of him and then All right. Take everything out of your pocket really quick. And then you're going to have to go do the other side. >> All right. Go ahead. >> Hey, one other thing. Uh, could you please get her number for me? I do not have it by heart and I ain't going to have no other way to get it. That's the only contact I have besides my brother. >> Yeah, we can get it. No, we'll go out this way. >> Oh, stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. >> Put it down. >> You're You're doing too much already to do it. >> Just make life simple. Move something. Uh-uh. >> Okay. >> Like that, please. that back. Okay. Nice. >> You have a male in the back of your car, right? >> Yep. >> So, what is the last thing you want to have happen? An accidental discharge with him in the back of the car to point your gun that way and it hits him. >> Should that ever happen? No. Can it happen? Absolutely. So, let's get in the habit of pointing it away from whatever's in our car because we have a ton of stuff back here. You start trying to shove it around in a hole and everything just to get it in a spot. What are we doing every time we try to do that and force it? Running the risk of something slamming into that trigger and ripping off a round, right? >> And I can unequivocally tell you I don't want that to occur. >> I don't either. >> Exactly. So, we do everything in our power and do the minimum amount of work to make sure that doesn't happen. So, best practice like, can you absolutely point right at him in there because you're not intending on doing anything? Sure. But we can also take an extra two seconds and just make it go somewhere totally different. Yeah. >> Right. So just for all. All right, boss man. >> Wake up. Time to get up. Let's go. Wake up. Come on, dude. I know you don't want to, but let's get all this stuff knocked out so you can get back out to her. Okay. You don't have anything on you, do you? There's a X-ray now in here. Huh? >> You didn't. >> Hop up. Step out that door really quick for me. >> Hey, this piece of paper, keep it with you. It's got her number on it. Okay, >> go ahead. Raise up a little bit for me. I don't want you knocking your head into that wall. Stand up. Stand up. What's up, buddy? >> The suspect was booked for giving false name to a law enforcement officer. On May 17th, 2024, he entered to a no- low plea to the charge. As part of sentencing, the suspect was sentenced to 30 days of confinement.
