The guns that are in your possession, I am hoping they do not come back to the murder of that 3-year-old child. >> No questions. All right. Anything for me before we get done with them? >> My radio phone. >> On March 11th, 2024, officers responded after three teenagers were spotted on CCTV carrying pistols, with one wearing a ski mask. The sighting came at a time when the community was already on edge. Just days earlier, three suspects had gone on the run after a gang-related shooting sent a stray bullet crashing into a nearby home. Inside, two young brothers were sitting on the couch watching TV when the bullet struck them both. The 3-year-old boy tragically lost his life, while his 9-year-old brother survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators believe the gunfire was intended for rival gang members, but instead claimed the life of an innocent child. Believing the armed suspects could be connected, officers quickly moved in to investigate. >> There he is. They're moving. I got Do not move. Do not move. GET ON THE GROUND. PUT YOUR HANDS UP. PUT YOUR HANDS UP. >> [screaming] >> HANDS UP. I'LL GO LESS LETHAL. I'LL GO LESS LETHAL. STAY WHERE you are. All right, somebody secure that gun right now. DO [screaming] NOT MOVE. So, we're investigating that right now. >> He's right there by the window. >> Yeah, I'll get him in a second. So, that's it. >> I got my nephew out in the pool with him or I cannot come out there with him. >> Uh we're out here for just a second. Just make sure there's nothing else in there. >> Hey, where Chris that twin? She ain't come? >> All right. I'm going to take a seat in there first. Butt first is easier, but it's up to you. Sit. Yep. Watch your head. Watch your head. Just slide yourself back in. Yep, there you go. I know it's tight, but >> All right. Did you You double locked it? >> Yeah, he's double locked it. >> I'll get Chris for you, bro. Call all them kids in. The youngest, bro. I said they got to get Chris for >> He go to big jail. >> He must have gave the gun to big guy. >> Yeah. >> That's what it look like. >> Either that or he gave it to one of them somebody living in the apartment right there. There you go. Come on. >> On on the way up hat for here? >> No. Are your friends are coming too? Just a lot of traffic, you know. Sometimes it takes a little bit of time. >> Where my mom? >> I don't know. She should be here in a little bit though. I'm going number one cuz you're number one. >> Call my mom cell. >> Yeah, we'll let her know she's you're here. Just stay right there, okay? >> I don't know these people, but you don't want to be with them if you trying to make your life better. Provide for yourself, your family. It's not what you want. I'm not saying this cuz I'm in uniform and you sitting in the back. I'm just saying that for real. I got a little brother same age as you. If I knew he was doing what you were doing, I'll be pissed off. McDonald's, they're paying good, too. What's like 15 bucks an hour or something like that? >> Officers discovered the oddest thing about the pistols found on them. >> College Park Police Department. Interesting. >> I mean, they do sell guns. There are, you know, trade-ins and all that. Yeah, that's what it is. >> Hello. There we go. All right. >> You sit halfway out. We got to talk to you. Or we want to talk to you, but she's got to read you something. >> Okay, I'm going to read you your Miranda, okay? Do you understand the each of the these rights I've explained to you? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to us now? >> No, ma'am. >> Okay. >> Is that a no? All right. You don't want to talk? >> No, I don't want to talk. >> Okay. You don't want to talk about these two guns that you're about to be charged with. All right, cool. >> no. So, you're being charged with two two counts of possession of firearm under age of 18. Are you a convicted felon? All right, we'll run your criminal history. We're going to check on that. I'll tell you something over here. This is just for training purposes. >> Yes, sir. >> Like I said, in 5 minutes he thinks about me saying you're being charged and he goes, "I want to talk." >> You would have to read it again, right? >> No. >> No? Okay. >> There's this thing he's making there's something he had can say that where we can't talk. >> Mhm. >> And then there's something he said that we can't talk. >> Yeah. >> Do you know what that key word is? >> No. What would it be? >> He has not asked for a lawyer. >> Okay. >> Once they ask for a lawyer >> It's all the way off. Okay. >> There are some exceptions but that's a little more in depth. You'll learn about that down the road. >> For sure. >> But if he says, "I don't want to talk." He has not asked for a lawyer. So, in 5 10 minutes now he says, "Hey, you know what? I want to talk." >> Mhm. >> We can talk. Now, it's not a bad idea to re-read Miranda. >> Just in case. Yeah. >> Actually, probably a good idea. >> Yeah. >> He says, "Nah, I want a lawyer." It's over. >> I know you said you don't want to make a comment and that's fair. It's your right to not make a comment. The guns that are in your possession I'm hoping they do not come back to the murder of that 3-year-old child. Just thought you'd know. Cuz if they do, they're in your possession. Keep that in mind. And what I feel because I have video of before y'all took off running I know at least one person had one of those guns in their possession and they are getting charged with that. I have a feeling that people probably handed those guns off to you which made you a patsy, which is really dumb considering that you're 17 and they're juveniles. But if you want to take one for the team, that is certainly your right. If you want to talk, you let me know. >> Hang on. I'll explain to you in just a second. >> Hey, did you have anything to say or anything? >> Huh? >> Did you have anything to say or anything? >> Yeah, he has it. He has his cell phone. It's in the It's in his pocket. give it back to him. >> No, I'm missing the ring, when he said he thought we was in one of y'all car. >> Mhm. I'll ask and take a look. I wasn't the one who had him in my vehicle. He said he doesn't know where you guys stay at now. What's your guy's address? >> And he got to live in here, he live in my house two doors down street. But I'm trying who got the best number of firearm on 18. >> He does. So, where Where does he live at? >> I don't know where he live at. >> I can explain that to to you guys in just a second. Well, they need his address real quick. Where does he exactly stay at? All right. I'll be back in a second. >> You going to check the phone? >> Yeah, I'll check for you. >> You're going to get right? >> Yeah. >> I mean, there's enough people here that if he act ugly, it's not going to go down. >> to deal with the phone, man. Ain't nobody sitting around for y'all. >> times you been arrested? >> Like four. >> And you ain't learning your lesson yet? >> There you go. Okay, that's what I figured. All right, I appreciate it. Thank you. Officers initially let one of the suspects go, but after pulling up the CCTV footage of the apartment complex, they were able to get the evidence they needed to re-arrest him. Luckily, he came along with the parents and was waiting in the lobby. >> Take him out. >> Take him out. Willie's got the best of it. >> actually >> They make a Willie's version of the Gladiators. >> To your left, upper. >> How come you didn't know that? >> Hey, you hold him. >> Yep. >> Hey, Herb. >> What's your name? >> Hey, Herb. >> Hey, man. Do me a favor. Can you put your hands behind your back? Thank you. >> What? >> Sorry. >> Put down my hand right there. >> Hold on, we're going to explain in a second, okay? Sorry, we cut you loose cuz we didn't have anything to hold you on, but we just got the video back. You did have that firearm in your possession, okay? >> You want to hold my arm? >> That's my right here. Did you hear what he said? So, we have him on video with the firearm in his possession. So, we are going to call DJJ for that. We'll come back and let you know if they decide to place a hold, okay? But for right now, he's going to be with us, okay? >> What you mean you going to call DJJ? >> All right. You'll pop the door for me. Thank you. >> I already just told you. >> Bro, I can't keep any of these cuffs on. >> Sorry. Oh, is it too >> Yes. >> I'll check it for you in just a second, okay? >> Bro, where's my phone at, bro? >> He was We just walked right past him. >> Where? >> In the front. There you go. Now it's up front. >> Bro, y'all didn't find my other phone, bro? >> Uh-uh. The officer that I just talked to you said they only took one off of you. >> I know because he didn't check my other pocket. He only checked like He only checked the one, bro. My phone was in that pocket right here, bro. >> You think it fell out in the car or something? >> Yes. >> Oh. All right. >> I think it fell when I when it >> When you got down on the ground? Oh, we ain't check the ground for your stuff. I'll tell you that right now. Yeah, we'll check the car for you. I didn't see anything on the ground. Just have a seat. >> I love you too, shawty. They trying to do the same thing to me, twin. >> Fix me. There you go. All right. These are going to come off. >> All right. How about we stop yelling at each other? >> Yes. >> Stop acting like children. Okay? >> Yes, sir. >> This is ridiculous. >> Have a seat. >> You took my phone. >> Oh, I can't get my fingers in here. >> You took my phone, all right. And they too tight. >> Oh, well, that's just the comes with the territory, man. I trust you won't slip on That'd be a mistake. >> I had nowhere to go. >> There you go. All right. Have a seat. Stop yelling. >> You got to let me out of the back of the car. >> No, I'll talk to you in just a second about that. Want to have a seat right there. >> I'm Officer Thomas. >> Sorry we couldn't meet under better circumstances, but try to be an open person. Try to get straight to the point. I like to lay my cards out on the table and give you guys an opportunity to, you know, explain to me exactly what's going on. That's ultimately the best way to to do things around here, in my opinion. All right? So, you are under arrest. You do have the handcuffs on, so I do have to read you this, and then whether we go forward or not is up to you, okay? You have the right to remain silent. With that in mind, do you wish to continue you with me? No? No questions? All right. Anything for me before we get done with him? >> Where were your phone? >> I looked, uh, the officer that has him or had him said that he didn't have anything aside from the phone that we took off of him. And that's here, that's this one right here. Unless it fell out of his pocket like during the during the incident or if it dropped on the ground, I'm not sure. We didn't We didn't pay attention to that. We just maintained the property that we had. Is it our phone? >> Mhm. >> If you check it up on our our phone my iPhone, if it's on and it has a GPS, you should be able to track it on your cell phone. Just enter the Just enter the iCloud or Is it Is the phone on now? >> Yeah. >> If you're able to log in on iCloud, you should be able to Whatever iCloud account the phone is on, you should be able to look for look for it there. But as far as us, no officer has the phone in their possession or ever took it. >> take him to jail for a gun you didn't even get off him. >> Yes, so I mean, I can't I can't talk to him as far as the questions that he has, but he was in possession with the handgun. There is video footage. There is Yes, there is video footage of the incident. That's why he's under arrest, okay? This is a DJJ here. I'll let you know they're ready to place the hold. Hey, it's Officer Thomas. All righty, I'll let his mom know. They are going to place the hold. They'll call me back in a little bit to let me know where exactly he's going to be detained. They're not sure yet where this guy began so it was somewhere else, but I'll let you know right after the fact, okay? As far as the phone, are you able to log in and take a look at it while we're here? Oh, do you not have your phone on you? >> No, that's my phone. He had that red one I need to locate. >> You can try logging in, but it only has 5% battery, so Then the location for it. All right, you want to come on out, we'll get him taken care of in just a second. >> I'm going to throw up in here. All right. >> Can you not? >> of being up here, bro. >> Can you not? >> Bro, I'll do what I want. Y'all first ain't going to >> I don't want to have to repo the car, but you stay where you are, okay? Have a seat. There's no reason to be acting like that. >> Yes, sir. Nowhere. >> Just have a seat right there. We'll be with you later. >> Bye. Y'all don't come in here in the next 20 minutes, I'm kicking you out. You know that? >> Stay still. >> What's his deal? >> I don't think he can sit there long. He's got special needs, so that's >> Well, >> He starts tearing up my vehicle, I'm catching a charge. >> You can put him in leg shackles here in the back of the car, okay? So, if you can call him now, you might want to do that. Okay? We're not going to allow him to get physical. >> Can you open it up and let him out? Roger, you need to stop. They said they're going to put you in there, too. >> Oh, I'm going to kill you now. >> They're going to screw >> [snorts] >> You can't be destroying property unless you want to catch another charge, okay? >> I'm tired of sitting in here, you bastard. >> Have a seat. Give it about 10 more and we'll get you back on the way. >> Okay, you can call me. I got to go to work. >> Absolutely. >> No arrest records were found for the two younger teens, but for the 17-year-old suspect, he was booked for two counts of possession of a pistol by a person under 18. On June 28th, 2024, he pled guilty to one count of the charge, while the second count was dismissed. He was sentenced to 60 days of confinement, placed on 12 months of probation, and ordered to complete 30 hours of community service. These teens weren't the three individuals connected to the murder of the three-year-old child. Those individuals were found and convicted for malice murder two months later. Stay tuned for that video.
