These people stole so many times that they forgot it was still a crime. That is until the authorities reminded them. Here are five cases when professional shoplifterss get caught in the act. Number five, serial shoplifterss get surprised by the police at the store exit. Our first case takes us to a Burlington store where officers responded to a report of two women suspected of shoplifting. Upon arrival, one of the store employees wasted no time explaining what's been happening to the officers. >> Can you let me know what's going on a little bit more? I just are what we get is very like sporadic. >> We have two femos in here. >> Um they've came in. This is our usual. They come in about 10:15 and they run around and stuff carts and then they attempt to walk out with them. >> Okay. >> Um these ones came in very suspicious from the beginning. Came in with empty bags, backpacks, stuff like that. Um but that's what we've noticed. They're they're literally just grabbing stuff. >> So, are they still in here right now doing it? >> Still in right now. >> Okay. So, they're like it's in progress essentially. Okay. And I see that my backs just got here, too. So, um I will wait for them to come in and then we'll head in there. >> So, this back end over here through here. >> Trying to zigzag it. >> All right. Thank you. >> But there's the usual suspect. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> What are we doing? >> Are we waiting for them to actually steal? That's what I'm wondering. Like in the Target overtime days, you just wait for them just so you have something to do. >> Yeah. >> What's the word? >> This is what they look like now. She has this bag in the basket in the other bag. And as I'm going past the men's shoes now, you can kind of see her in the basket. >> She's putting items in there. >> You can kind of see her working in there. She's got watches. She's got shoes. They've got all kind of stuff in that basket. And this one, her backpack looks a little bigger than it was when she got here. [Music] >> But they're both in the back corner of our store right now. So, >> yeah, we got an officer around the back side. >> Yeah, that's usually the ones that hang out by the men's shoes are usually the ones that hit the emergency door. So, >> and there is there four of them or just those two? >> Two. He said that two the other two people that came in at the same time as them. >> Did they already leave? >> This gentleman and another guy that came in right behind them, they've walked out already. Oh, with items or without? No. Okay. Just >> they they came in kind of looked around and then they left and then them two those two stayed. >> And it's the red hair blue hair girls. >> Yeah. It's like a copper It's like a copper color. And then hers the part that's hanging out of her hat, you can see that it's like a bluish color. >> Okay. >> Hers is like really >> Did we already air those descriptions or No, >> they're they're in the CAD. You might expect someone planning to steal to try blending in. But in this case, the suspects did the opposite. Now that officers know exactly who to watch for, they wait for the women to pass all points of sale before stepping in. >> So they were at a when the call came out. >> I just saw the red hair, blue hair. >> I was like, got it. And like a puffer jacket or something >> and that's usually when they take a run for it. So let me do that and see if they make >> Okay. Yeah. >> Can you just have her your loss prevention if she just kind of gives like a thumbs up as they're coming near? >> Uh-oh. She came back already. That was quick. >> They're in line right now. >> Their bags are pretty full. But we always have the ones that stuff and then they go pay for two or three things. Or they come up here, ring stuff, and say their card doesn't work. So, I'm going to stay up here with the cashier just to see how it goes. >> Okay. >> Sweet. Here. Here comes one of them. >> Hello, man. >> Hi, ma'am. Can we talk to you real quick? >> Can we talk to you real quick? >> Yes. Um, so the store um >> Yeah, we put every We didn't We put everything back. >> Okay. They want you guys trespass. >> Okay. >> So, we're If you don't Do you have any ID on you? >> No, I don't. I got warrants. >> Okay. >> Good. How are you? >> How are we doing? >> I'm fine. How are you? >> How are we doing? So, >> we're fine. I'm so What happened? >> Okay. So, the store wants you guys trespass. >> Okay. >> Do you have any ID on you? >> Um, no. I'm from California. >> You're from California? Okay. >> My ID was in my purse when we got robbed. >> My two E like this. And then uh what's your name? >> Um, okay. We're We're going to work through this. What What's your last name? >> Ma'am, what's your last? >> Okay. >> Do either of them have anything on them right now? >> In their backs. They still in the backs. I know this lady with the ones on her body. Those are the ones that she had in the basket. >> Okay. Do we know for sure about the other girl kind of walking away? >> Um I'm not positive, but I know her backpack does look fuller than it was when she >> Okay. But for sure the white jacket one for sure. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> First time in the store like I was watching. So, what we're going to do take this back off. Okay. >> Okay. >> Just going to relax. >> All right. >> I'm going take this one off as well. >> Why am I being arrested, sir? >> So, we'll fly in just a second. Okay. >> Okay. But why am I being arrested? But why am I being handcuffed? >> For theft. >> Okay. For theft, >> it's my first time being in this burlington, sir. >> Despite how obvious her actions were, the suspect still plays the part of someone who's done nothing wrong. even asking why she's being arrested. The officers have no trouble answering that question. >> For stealing. >> For stealing. >> They are saying that they saw you put stuff in your bags and now you're walking out with said bags. So that would be stealing. >> There's nothing in here. >> Okay. >> That's my stuff. That's why I said there's nothing. >> Okay. Talk to him. >> Is this your guys' product? She's saying that it's hers and those are on the those are from over here. >> Okay. >> Shoes is not >> not your guys'. >> And then whatever those headphones aren't either the B uh BT21s. >> Let me ask. Okay. You say American Eagle, so I'm assuming No. But how about some shoes or the uh headphones? >> No, those aren't from here. >> Okay. That's just the first bag. So yeah. What bag was she putting it in? >> Uh those the bag. >> So both of the duffel bags. So, not this one. >> Ah, okay. Okay. >> Whose stuff is this? >> That's mine. >> Oh, not not to that part yet. >> Oh, all right. My bad. And you said so the the only thing out of that bag is the coats. >> I promise you. >> Okay. Is there anything in her bags? >> No. That stuff that's our stuff that's in in the bags. >> The coat is theirs. >> Other than that, it's that's our stuff. >> Okay. >> I promise you. Is there anything in that bag that we need to know about that belongs to the store? >> I don't think so. >> Um, it's okay. Do just just set it here. >> Yeah. >> I just wanted to know if you just my stuff. >> Okay. So, just don't open that right now. >> I'm sorry. >> Is that her? >> Oh, yeah. That's her. And she told me she had fed away warrants as well. She was like, "Ma'am, I have warrants for theft." >> Shake. Whatever. >> Okay. Go and set up for >> We're going to take you in on those warrants. No, >> babe. >> I take it. >> And she's got a felony warrant. >> Please, no. >> Are those your shoes? >> Yes. They're Jordans. >> They're brand new. >> They They're mine. >> Both suspects now try to downplay the theft, saying it was just one coat that they stole. However, it's a claim that doesn't quite line up with what the officers have seen. >> Uh, what other Is it just this bag? >> It's just that coat. The other stuff is not from >> I'll be honest, I'm not going to believe what you're saying right now. These two bags, not this one. >> These two? >> Yeah, these two right here. >> I'm being honest with you. The only thing that belongs to them is that >> Were those warrants confirmed? >> Yeah, they did. >> They They confirmed them. >> Give me a second. >> Hold off on this search. Let's make sure they're confirmed and we didn't just run her name and get warrant. 2144. The warrants for Johnson, were they ever confirmed at all? >> The wallets? >> Oh, the wallet. Oh, darn. She lied. >> Yeah, the wallets is here. Oh my god, it smells terrible in here. >> Do you guys mind getting like a dollar amount? >> Sick. >> All right. Well, you lied. Like I knew you did. >> Well, lied about what? >> Cuz there's two wallets in there and there's a watch in there. >> Oh, that was a >> Well, I didn't know. >> That's why I always check. >> Okay. Well, I wasn't. >> Yeah, it's confirmed. >> Good. Okay, they're confirmed. So, she is under arrest now for sure. So, if you want to continue search her, take her, you know, the bags, all that kind of stuff. Okay. >> And the boots. The snake skin boots. Excuse me. >> I think you had like five shoplifting warrants. >> Four. >> Four. Oh, sorry. Two of them. >> Probably getting real rough to give you a break. If you got five, >> but two of them shops. >> I have I have court dates. >> I'm not trying to get I'm just being honest. And then one of them like >> you got to stop stealing. You got You're doing a lot of >> You got a good work ethic if you you got this match going on. >> I know. Just I'm I'm I'm I'm trying. I know. I I know. >> Okay. Just to Did anybody tell you you had the felony warrant out of state? Okay. That will not go away ever. It's going to be there forever. So, at some point, they'll probably get fed up and take you. Just know. >> All right. Yeah. I'm just going to have to sit. Yep. Sit there. Just like that. Perfect. All right. Hang out here. >> With a pair detained, officers go through their bags to see if they have other stolen merchandise, not just from Burlington, but from different stores. >> Hey, how you doing? Uh, can you tell me if this is yours? >> Yeah. >> They literally trying to buy this. Like, can you hold this for us? I'm like, no, we can't. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Let me see. >> But it is from here. Are you sure? >> Is from here. We sell these. >> Yeah. >> But this looks super worn. >> Before heading out, officers gather a statement from the employee who recounts the events leading up to the call with remarkable detail. >> Is Bonnie like um I guess Bonnie like confirmed? So, >> and when did they went as soon as they entered, where did they go first? >> Uh, they went to shoes, women's shoes, and they went to the baby section. And that was the first place that we seen them acting a little suspicious. They were kind of just grabbing shoes. And then they would start the conversations when we came over like, "Oh, what size shoe does this nephew or that nephew wear?" And I'm like, "You're in women's shoes talking about what your nephew wears." Um, from there, the one with the white sweater and the black stretch pants, um, we saw her leave shoes and then she kind of hung out in the girls section, the other one began to run kind of back and forth. She was like grabbing stuff and bringing it to her, grabbing stuff, and they had the basket with a bunch of different stuff in it. And >> like a little basket that you carry around. >> Yeah, it No, it was the cart. The >> cart. And then um they had came here, grabbed a couple watches, went over here in our queuing, grabbed a couple wallets. Um and then they were hanging out in the men's shoe section. So I walked past them about three or four times and I had noticed the things in the basket slowly disappearing. Like I walked by, you didn't go anywhere, but the watches are gone, the wallets are gone, these things are gone, and their bags were now stuck and zipped. Um, at that point, it was about 5 6 minutes before that when I called you guys cuz I noticed the sus suspicious behavior. Um, after that they attempted to come up to the register. Um, they took two things out of the basket, a pair of shoes and a kids jacket and told my cashier, "Oh, my card's not working. I'm going to have to go to the ATM." Before she even rang anything up and then walked out with the bag. In addition to being barred from returning to the store, the women were arrested on outstanding warrants and charged with shoplifting. Number four, shoplifter already caught, but her plan to avoid arrest made things worse. In this next case from May 28th, 2021, officers respond to a Home Depot on reports of an active shoplifter. Officers arrived to find the suspect already making her way out with a cart packed full of items she hadn't paid for. What happens next is an arrest she wasn't expecting. >> Hey ma'am, can you stop for a second? >> You got your ID on you? >> You don't have an ID in there? >> I don't. >> Hey, hang on a sec. >> Why are you touching me? What are you doing to me? That's not my >> All right. >> Please let me go. >> Stop. Please let me go. You can have it all. Please, I'm sorry. I'll buy it. I'll buy it. I'll buy it. >> Put it on the ground. Put it on the ground. >> I'll buy it. I'll buy it. Please, I'll buy it. Please, I'll buy it. Please, I'll buy it. Put around one arm. I'll buy it. My stuff's everywhere. Please. >> Here you go. Get that. >> I'll pay for it all. >> Well, too late, hon. Nope. Why? >> I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'll pay for everything. >> Make sure to check your fit. That's loose. >> For everything. >> All right, let's stand her up. >> Get on your last traffic. I don't know how to do that. [Music] Hold on. >> Give it a sec. We'll get them to you. >> I'll pay for whatever's in there. I promise. It's too late. the forest from crashing. >> All right. >> No, you've got a scratch on your hand. They took the ground. >> We're going to document it. >> The cuffs are on within moments. And once officers confirm she isn't carrying anything illegal, they turn to the task of inspecting the stolen items. >> Just to make sure. >> All right. Hey, pull our vehicle around. hate people for misdemeanor. >> Isn't that correct? >> It's a misdemeanor. >> 521 depends on if you've done it before. >> Okay. For everything is not allowed. >> Well, we're past that point. >> All right. So, grab out everything in this box. It's Milwaukee. Give it to him so he can get a total of it. >> Yep. That's concealed. She concealed all that stuff. >> Whatever >> cuz uh she didn't pay for anything that's in there. >> She paid for some of these stuff. She did yet. >> Okay. Oh, I got Okay. I don't know if you can recognize these things. >> Blue gun. That's >> that's one of those. >> Not one of those. This is from >> She walked out, tried to stop her. She grabbed her stuff. >> Oh, 28. What's today? Today's the 28th. >> 28. >> It says glue gun, but I don't see a glue gun anywhere. >> You sure? Today's 28th. >> Yeah, today's 28th. 27th. That's not even on Monday. That's not That's not >> Yeah. No. So only one thing glue gun. >> Cool. >> All right. Yeah. And then her wallet and everything go this place over here. This does she have another or no? Right. >> No, those are okay. So this >> those are the only receipts you saw, right? Yeah. Yeah. Those are the ones. >> Among the stolen goods are glue guns and food items. And judging by her reaction, she seems well aware that the total won't meet the threshold for a felony, hinting to officers that this isn't her first time. >> They hit me. I get to go home. >> Hey, there's blood over that purse. That's why I said watch out. I don't know. I just roll this back in there. I don't know. >> I don't know what that is. That's like a brace or something. >> You okay? >> Yeah, I'm fine. >> This is great. >> My leg hurts. >> What? >> My leg hurts. Just that 11 brother >> my knee up pretty good playing with the ball about to go. >> Well, you already know the drill. >> Yeah, I know. >> You want to go to the hospital? >> No, I don't want to go to the hospital. >> Uh danger. >> Yeah, I'll do it. >> Hey, take that. Go find her car. Get the tag. >> Hello. Hello. >> How you doing? My name is Corporal. My My name is Corporal Tupac. Are you okay? >> I just want to pay for it, please. I'll pay for everything. >> All right. Hey, uh, >> I'll have to pay for it. I'll pay for it, please. >> All right. >> What you need? >> Uh, tell I I just need to get her out of the car. So >> Oh, okay. >> What do we do? >> Can you help me out? >> Pull her out. >> Get her out of the car. >> My camera's on there cuz I don't have mine on me. >> Okay. I got my camera. >> I got mine on. >> Yeah, mine is recording, too. It hasn't. All right. >> All right, ma'am. Can you look at me for a minute? You okay? Any injuries on your face? >> No. >> Look at me for a minute. >> She's got a small laceration on her finger. >> Yeah, I already got that. >> While the store prepares an itemized list of stolen goods, officers discuss the brief struggle that happened when the woman tried and failed to get away. running good. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. He tried to walk away. So between uh Taylor and Geyser, the driver put her on the ground. Uh his knee hit the ground. So >> great. Geyser's injured, aren't you? Did I just hear an accident? >> Well, fill out a uh whatever. If you scrape the >> Yeah, I'll get it. >> She's got some little scrapes. Uh >> who >> to the thumb? No. >> No, no, no. her. >> She said he cut she cut her finger last night, but it got opened up when we were portion of the ground offic >> just to cover our bases. >> Okay, >> there he is. >> Any warrants or anything? >> No warrants. You paid for these. I just can't find the receipt for it. I watched a video of it. >> Okay, so she paid for those. That's it. >> All right. Yeah, we'll throw that in her bag. Where did the total come up for the other stuff? >> Okay. >> Yeah, just let me know and then I'll check her for bands. I'm pretty sure she's not. I don't remember. So, we'll do a band form and I'll meet you in the office. >> All he was only one BMW. >> She had a bunch of stuff. Milwaukee batteries, a drill set, um a silicone gun or >> I don't know. He's working on that right now. >> I don't think so. Based on what she grabbed. >> You're good. Um, >> I'm just going to have one. I'll ask her. >> No, I want to ask her where it's at now. >> They put her stuff in it. >> You sure you want to take this? >> Yeah, you. We got the stuff you paid for. It's in the back. >> Can I pay for everything else? >> Uh, it's too late now. They won't let you do that. We would possibly consider it, but they won't let you. They're the ones charging you here. Well, besides the obstruction now you're getting charged with. >> As paramedics check on her, the suspect scrambles to backtrack. But by now, the officers have made their decision. And the store is also set on pressing charges. >> Yeah. Yeah, I might do that. >> I'll check 79. She's 55. >> She'll be happy to know. >> You guys already have name and everything I can get from y'all or do I need to get from her? >> No, I got it all. So, um, start working on an AMB. >> Well, I'll keep that. She's logged. >> So, what? >> Me and Taylor did most of the work. >> Ma'am, >> so as they're going to explain to you, you were this close for it to be in felony amount of stuff, which means it's a misdemeanor shoplifting. They're going to, as long as you're cooperative, they're going to take you, you're going to get, you're under arrest, but you're going to get fingerprinted and then they're going to bring you back home to your residence or wherever you live or back to your car. That's because it's a misdemeanor and the draw the jail is an accepted misdemeanor. Otherwise, you'd be going to jail. >> I I highly suggest if you're paying for stuff and you can't afford the other stuff, don't steal it. >> I can afford it. >> All right. Well, then you I don't know what your problem is. But anyway, where's your car? Do you want us to just throw the stuff in your car before we log into the property room? >> Where's your car? >> Over there. >> Is it a BMW? >> Where is it? >> Over there. >> Over where? What color is it? >> Huh? >> What color is it? >> It's gold. She said her car is gold and it's over. >> Only the passenger door only works. >> Only the passenger door works. >> All right, we'll find it. We'll put your stuff in it. the the stuff you paid for. Huh? >> The remote doesn't work. It's not locked. >> The Oh, the remote don't work on it. And it's not locked. >> All right. So, tell me what happened. >> I was just trying to catch up on everything my boyfriend has stolen from me. >> It takes her a moment to respond. And when she does, it's with an excuse meant to soften the crime she just committed. >> My ex-boyfriend All right. >> I had a restraining order that I filed last year and he broke into all of my storage and stole 90% of the stuff that I had gotten packed up out of the house and the police did nothing about it. >> So, you were trying to recover your tool the tools that your bro ex-boyfriend stole. Right. >> Right. And I'm not allowed to go near >> because I filed a restraining order. He stole thousands of dollars of stuff from me. I could never catch him on camera, so we all wouldn't do anything about it. >> So, what happened when when you came out and and the officer saw you? What? What? What happened? >> Grab my purse and my bags and just leave my leave that bag. I was just going to leave it. >> I was supposed to go. >> Yeah. But let let's talk about the time, you know, how they put you on the ground. And you want to tell me about it? >> I was trying to walk away. >> Yeah. So you have you done yet? >> So when you were trying to to walk away, what did they do? What the officers did? >> They put their hands on me. >> And what happened? >> They took me to the ground >> when they put hands on you. Uh what did you do? >> Let me go. >> I don't know. Ma'am, is it an SUV or a car? SUV >> blue. It's blue. It's >> not gold. >> His mom's car is gold and that's what I've been working on today. >> Why do you look familiar? >> Cuz I had a restraining order against my boyfriend all last year and y'all were called like every day. >> Where do you live? >> Southside. >> Southside. Where on the south side? >> I live in Hidden Lake. >> Hidden Lake. Okay. I don't know. You look >> All right. Just give me a second. Okay. With her identity still being verified, one officer talks her through what she can expect moving forward. >> I'm sorry. Anything else you want to tell me? Or do you have any questions for me? >> Well, how are they allowed to put their hands on me? >> The off Well, once you once you get arrested, when once the officer tells you to stop, you should have stopped. >> All they asked me for was ID and I grabbed my purse and my bag and I started walking back. >> All right. >> And they took me to the ground. >> Yes, ma'am. That's because you were observed stealing from uh or taking the stuff from uh the Home Depot by their loss prevention. >> That's how the trouble cost comes. >> All right, ma'am. Your stuff's about to go in the We can't find your car. So, your stuff's all going to get logged in. >> Y'all did find the car. The passenger door is the only door unlocked. >> Is it the one that's filthy dirty in an SUV and it's like greenish gray? >> Blue. >> Blue. >> I see it. Huh? >> She says it's unlocked. >> It's not unlock. Huh? >> It is unlocked. The passenger door is the only door that works. >> The passenger door is the only door that works, she said. And it's that SUV right there. >> I tried that one. >> Pull the handle. >> You got to pull the handle up. >> All right. Hang tight. You got her, Blackman. >> All right. Is that a BMW? Okay. >> Can you put the key in ignition and turn it? Yes. Humor me because we might be doing it on the >> There we go. That's it. >> Is she saying her car don't lock and we're going to leave her purse in it? >> Is that there's money and stuff in there or no? >> She said this is the only door that works. >> Okay. She saw she left that unlocked. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> Okay. >> No, it was locked. >> Yeah. All right. Good. >> All right. Whatever. >> Before wrapping up, the officers review the situation and decide on the course of action. >> Is is this the EMS right here? There no ambulance or nothing. She don't want anything else. >> Yeah. She said she didn't want to get transported. >> All right. To the to the jail. >> We'll just take a little bit for this. >> Well, you're not. You're just printing her, right? Huh? >> On who? >> What' she do to you? >> She was bleeding, man. >> But where where's the battery though? Cuz you got hurt. You fell taken her down. >> Yeah, >> she was shoving us. >> Yeah, >> it took four of us to get our arms behind her back. >> Okay. Well, if that I didn't know you were charging with that. Okay. >> So, wait, let me see your knee. You got a picture of his knee? >> Yeah, of course. >> I didn't know that. God, guys, are you always get hurt? >> It's not my fault. Yeah, it is. Start wearing knee pads and elbow pads. >> Maybe your helmet, too. >> I'll get with uh I'll get with Belf Fury. >> All right. So, yeah, definitely do a you first reported injury. >> Hopefully, tomorrow you don't call out and need >> just to spite. >> While the woman's shoplifting charge amounts only to a misdemeanor, her actions during the arrest earned her a felony charge for battery on a police officer. Number three, when getting away once made you forget shoplifting is a crime. In our next case, Hoboken police officers respond to a shopright where loss prevention says a shoplifter struck twice. According to reports, she got away with it once but decided to come back for more. Here's what happened when officers arrived. >> Hello. >> Hey, how are you? [Music] Uh, long story short, she was here earlier today at 2:18 p.m. Concealed Hav products inside the bag and exited without paying. Then she returned to the store at 3:30 p.m. Concealed more items in the bag and exited without paying. We stopped her >> and we got our items back from earlier and from recently. >> So, you got everything back? >> Yes. Yeah. >> All right. uh back up the for the total correct 9395. This is your receipt. >> It's the same number that called you. All you have to do is go into that button. 2015. This is earlier today at 2:18 p.m. >> Right there. [Music] [Music] [Music] Then she came back at 3:30 p.m. So you need >> a >> coming back. [Music] >> With the store's HD cameras catching her from almost every angle, there's not much the suspect can do to deny it. However, according to store employees, that didn't stop the suspect from trying to cry her way out of trouble. [Music] >> Then she opens this box, takes one item from there, and returns the box. [Music] [Music] [Music] Make sure seals everything in the purse. [Music] This is the second one. >> This is the second one. Correct. [Music] Take some bread. [Music] The exit key. [Music] the union. [Music] [Music] As you can see, [Music] Check your phone. >> Officers later identified the woman as Christine Varcatipine, a repeat offender at this very shop, right? She was last caught here in December 2022 with additional shoplifting arrests dating back to 2017. [Music] [Music] That's your suit. That bag, right? >> Yeah, that's my purse. [Music] said, "Well, I think my husband just died. I can't go back to your stuff. He stayed in a hotel. [Music] [Applause] [Music] See you have >> you have a little attachment. [Music] [Music] [Music] The attempted theft totaled $93. $3.95. But unlike her last time here, this incident will end at the police station. So what I do, I put your hand That's hers. >> Yeah. >> Are you sure that's hers? >> That's mine. [Music] [Music] Is that back? [Music] [Music] Medical jammer has taken the 36. I got to make a 12. >> You all right? >> Yeah. Shouldn't be locked backwards. >> You good there? if you're there. >> Christine was charged with shoplifting and not long after she was arrested again for another shoplifting incident. This time in Lindhurst. Number two, a mother's bad decision becomes her child's worst lesson. On May 28th, 2025, Ooken officers responded to a shoplifting call at a local shop. When the authorities arrived, the suspect was already in the security office speaking with store staff. Here's what happened. [Music] All right, long story short, um, she concealed $142 worth of items and she didn't pay for them at the register and then she was apprehended at the vestibule. >> Okay. She passed the point of sale. >> Yes. Yes, sir. >> Can you uh if you just have the footage up real quick, that'd be uh appreciated. [Music] Um, >> when he first approached me, I explained to you. He said, "You know, I'll talk to you one second." >> To pay for two items. >> I'm going to talk to him first and then I'll talk to you. >> All right. So, 3:32 he was with this group of females, which she's saying is her cousins. She paid for this stuff. Correct. 100%. Mhm. >> Then they broke apart and then she came alone back in the store and selected more items which she didn't pay for which $142. And I'll gladly show you. >> In my defense, I was on the phone with my sister that and I probably forgot. I don't know. I'm human. How can I remember everything that I'm doing? [Music] Who's there? >> So that's um 332, correct? [Music] >> So 332 normal purchase fine. >> Normal purchase fine with her cousins or whoever the females are too. Um then she goes right here by herself. She orders, you know, happy, you know, coconuts >> with herself alone. And then she comes here and and grabs some sushi afterwards. [Music] >> The suspect is identified as 39year-old Gina Gonzalez Diaz, a mother of two who seems prepared to use her children to deflect the consequences she's facing. And then >> and then a flash goes to our two and three. >> I just have a question. Are you going to arrest me because I don't have anybody to take my kids? >> I just have a quick question. >> Um yeah, we're uh going to discuss our options in a second. >> Okay. Because if you understand, I'm a single mom of two. I have two children and I have nobody to take care of my kids cuz my mom has my sister too. Maybe. Look, maybe I got distracted cuz I'm talking on the phone with my sister that >> who were um >> those are my cousins. They work. >> Would they be able to assist you? >> Well, I'm calling childare issue. You're going to take me to jail for >> I I uh >> cuz I can call somebody that can send me money. I can pay for the items. I don't have a problem. >> I understand. But do you understand me? I I I have to take my son to a neurologist appointment on Friday and I'm a single mama, too. I don't have nobody to help me. So, you're going to take me to jail? Like, really? >> We're We're going to discuss some options in a moment. Okay. >> All those items come off two and three. So, around 350, which two and three and then conceal all those items, >> puts them in the same bag with the already purchased groceries. Uh there's multiple bags. >> Understood. Okay. And then can you just show me her leaving the business? >> Um so after she concealed all those items, 142 worth of items, she goes to register two where she only pays two items on register two. Let me show you guys. See right here this one candy that she grabbed with my sister and [Music] And obviously we randomize the rest of it. >> Okay. >> This came from two items that she just got from the house. >> She took $142.20 worth of items in full view of her own child. And the entire theft was recorded on the store security cameras. >> No. So this item right here is um tomatoes and then one candy or bubble gum, whatever that is. And then the rest conceal that she just grabbed >> never came out. >> So that's 142 she did not pay for [Music] these. That's what we stopped for the rest. Is there a way that I could pay a fine or something? Because I have two small children I take to school. >> Any history like any other shoppers are here? >> I've never stolen anything in my life. >> Hold on one second. >> I've never even had a fly. >> Listen to me. >> If you do come with us right now. >> Mhm. >> We're just going to do some paperwork. You'll be in the police department for like 2 hours. You'll be home tonight. >> Okay. But I have to Can you escort me so I can get my son out of school? He's in school, right? >> Where is your if I if I go >> Do you have anyone else available? >> I don't have no one. >> Hold on one second for me. >> I have a son that has >> Hold on one second. Call Duke Court. [Music] >> What's up, Sarge? Um, there's going to be a 25 here. She has uh a daughter with her. She does not have anyone available anywhere in the world that could take care of her. And she also needs to pick up her son from school from after after school program. Um she was due to pick him up already. She's already late. >> Before making the arrest, officers paused to decide how to move forward, mindful of the two children caught in the middle. Um, the kid looks maybe seven or eight and I don't know how old the son is. Um, let me find out for you. >> Where's your son, man? >> In brand. >> In uh Branch school. >> I can get my son from school and they can go with me. I will go with you without a problem. I don't have I don't have a baby. >> Yeah. The the thing that's upsetting me is she was here an hour ago, paid for a normal batch of groceries with cousins and then she reentered the school or I'm sorry the store and concealed items and the purchased items already and then now those apparently those cousins are nowhere to be found and unable to be contacted. Mhm. In the back. Okay. Okay. >> The officers have made their decision and begin explaining the next steps, but the suspect continues trying to bargain for a lighter outcome. >> Thank you, sir. It gave me it got me >> distracted. Um, can you just get his name real quick? >> You know it. You know his pedigree. >> My email. >> So, can I get my son from school? >> Hold on one second, please. >> Okay. >> And then this is the uh receiving items she did not pay for. >> These are the items at 142, right? >> This is 14220. >> All right, that's it. >> Okay, perfect. Thank you. I'm going to explain to you what's going to happen right now. Okay. >> Um I'm going to give you two options. >> Either way, you're going to come to police headquarters and we're going to do some paperwork. You understand? Just hold on one second. Let me finish. No problem. >> So, you're going to come to headquarters with us. >> Mhm. >> Um she could ride in the back with you or she we have two police cars here. If she could ride with the other one of us who have to drive. >> She can stay with me. >> And then one of us are going to pick up your son and also bring him to the police department. Okay. Well, obviously nice, respectful, everything. Hold on one sec. What's up, Sergeant? >> I was also informed uh highly autistic. [Music] >> Yes, I will get the pedigree. Correct. I will get the pedigree. [Music] Yeah. Yeah. Just do me one favor quickly. >> Um, >> by my name and my address and everything. >> Nope. All I need is actually your son's name and who whatever teacher he's usually with right now. >> Okay. Well, he's going to have to care. His name is >> So, I'm going to send his name to my boss so he could go pick your son up and um bring him up to police headquarters with you. >> I don't know the room number. I know. >> That's okay. With the case winding down, officers brief Gina on what will happen from here. >> So, >> your son will be meeting us at headquarters. We're going to do some paperwork together and then uh you should be able to leave uh later tonight. Have you ever been arrested before? >> I've never been to jail in my whole entire life. >> So, then >> you can check my name up. It's not a problem. >> So, what we're going to do is >> No, I've never been to jail. I'm I'm being >> It's okay. Yeah. you even the the system will speak for itself if you're lying to us. >> I'm just saying hypothetically. Um >> routinely what happens now is you're going to come to the police department with us. We're going to do some paperwork and you'll be home in a little while. >> Okay. >> Okay. Not a problem. >> Um I'm going to ask you to stand up now. I'm going to have to place some handcuffs. Okay. >> Okay. >> Uh just take your bag off first. >> This? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Let me put my keys in. [Music] Do you want to just >> What's hi? How are you? What's your name? >> It's a very pretty name. >> Okay. >> Do they need me anything else? >> Um Huh? >> Cuz I told him there's a picture of my >> um We're going to go ride in the police car now. Okay. >> No trouble. No trouble. Okay. >> We're going to go for a ride in the police car. >> Give me a hug. >> Yeah. Her birthday is tomorrow. >> Oh my god. >> Okay. >> Do you have anything on you that I need to know about in your pockets or anything like that? I'm going to I'm going to search you myself in a second. >> Have a whistle. >> That's okay. All right. I'm going to search you myself in a second. I just if there's anything that's going to hurt me or anything like that. No, no, no, no. Maybe I have a quarter in here. >> No, I'm talking about any possible weapons or or anything you see. >> I do have to cut you behind your back. I'm sorry. >> In the end, Gina was charged with shoplifting. >> Um, I'm just going to have to patch you down. Okay. >> On my wrist. >> Okay. I'll uh >> Right. Yeah. Fortunately, they're not supposed to be comfortable, but I will uh make sure they're >> 132. >> How's that a little bit better? >> One double car remove [Applause] 115. [Applause] We're going to have one female 1025 here. I'm going to give a further update in a moment. Just Leroy, we're going to transport in the same vehicle. Okay. >> All right. Little whistle and papers. Maybe a quarter on the top. >> Whatever it is. >> Nothing. That's all you got? Yep. That's okay. I believe you. >> I have nothing. I am going to have a female officer at headquarters so she could proper the searcher capacity 26612 >> um where piece of property >> they're downstairs but I told him I he since he said I only paid the two items I wanted the $38 that I paid for the um funding. >> Okay. So, I guess my question is is there any property that she has >> my bag? >> I'm sorry. >> Uh whatever's uh that belongs to her. I would like her to have >> the strollers as well. >> Following her booking and processing, Gina was able to return to her children. Number one, one small theft turned into a bigger problem when shoplifter lied to police. In Hoboken, New Jersey on March 19th, 2025, police once again responded to Shopright. This time for a shoplifter who was stopped by store staff. Here's how the case unfolds. >> Hello. >> Everything that was not paid for that used to go back and only paid for two bread at selfch check. >> She only paid for two bread. Correct. >> The bread is not on this list. Correct. >> Correct. It's not. >> Okay. >> So, she's with no ID. >> I'm not Whatever the first time I come here and I told you >> Do me a favor. Just stay seated. Okay. >> Okay. No problem. >> Just stay seated. Okay. Um I'm >> I thought I have my car. My card had my money in it. That's all. It was going 150. Then I paid the first one and I noticed I didn't have enough cards. So, okay. >> I'm sorry. I don't mean to. in the bed. Uh, see, >> you could check my bag and everything. >> F is packing up. We're back in service. >> So, you don't have you don't have $70. No, I mean I could I thought I had $50 and I didn't have enough in my car. That's how I paid for the breakfast to see how much I had left and then I just like said and I walked out cuz I needed the things but I didn't I don't have it. I had like $5 in it and that's how I paid the bread. >> But you you tried to walk out with all the other groceries. >> Yeah, cuz I needed it for the dog food and for some food that I needed it as well. >> All right. So that's admission. Yeah. You're admitting that you walked out with it without >> No, I didn't walk out. But he he I didn't I didn't even go to the thing. I I was like I was going to pay for it cuz I thought it had $50 on it. You understand? >> Look at the vestib. >> The suspect claims to be Evelyn Yep, but the officers know better than to rely on her word alone. the link to what you >> uh yeah I have my money. I apologize. >> Just need to get back >> 2011 2011. >> Uh she attempted to leave without paying two breads with a bunch of other groceries. Kaden's already got the receipt and she's getting the information and sending an email. Uh $70 from itself. $7. >> Uh, yes, cuz it's a repeat offender and she has also no ID. >> Okay. >> I'm not a Why you keep saying a repeat offense, sir? I'm sorry. >> We keep all the files, man. >> Correct. Uh, it's my first time. >> That's how we know. >> Left the house. [Music] So, she entered the store at 6 p.m. Then went around several hours, concealed it in the reusable bag and at 6:21 she went to selfch checkout 18 times to pay for everything honestly. And I know I have any food, but I needed a dog food. >> Understand? But you can't just walk out with >> I know. Feel so bad. I'm sorry for you. Ever been arrested for shoplifting prior? >> When was the last time you were arrested at all? >> 1999, I believe, for smoking. Not for sure. [Music] Do >> you have any ID on you? >> No, I have I have a card in my my mother's love. She gave it to me in case I needed extra but didn't have any funds in it. >> The suspect was later identified as Miriam Mriago and it didn't take long to discover that she had active warrants. >> I have my two gift cards and credit card. [Music] I just want to have more money in that. God damn it. This is at 621. [Music] What's your name? >> Evelyn. Yep. >> Evelyn. >> Yep. E V E L Y N Y E P Z. And then what time did you guys grab her at the >> 6:26 [Music] ma'am? So, what's going to happen is you're going to be placed under arrest for >> shot my dog. >> We're getting based on you not being arrested. >> In this incident alone, Miam attempted to steal $70 worth of merchandise from the store. But the value of the items would turn out to be just the beginning of her problems. It didn't take long for officers to uncover that she not only had outstanding warrants, but also a prior history with this very location, having been caught stealing here back in 2024. [Applause] Sorry. Should I just do a preliminary search right now? >> Uh, Evelyn, Evelyn, I need you. I need you to spread your legs. >> All right. >> Do you have anything in your pockets or anything I should be aware of? Oh, just change. Anything else on you? I may check. Sorry, J. Okay. If I check her stuff, too. >> Yeah. Take a seat. >> My phone. [Music] Do >> you have like a picture of your ID or anything on your phone? >> No, I tried looking for it right now on my my gallery, but I don't >> Sorry, guys. Check the back. >> I didn't get that deep. Yeah. Before escorting Miriam out of the store, the officers take the time to thoroughly search her belongings. Every pocket, pouch, and compartment is checked carefully as officers want to be certain they've accounted for everything. >> I better just put your coach in. Yeah. Yeah. The British keep it. Okay. >> With my house for my boyfriend and his mom is taking help. Yes. >> All right. >> And my door. >> All right. We're just going to go down. Okay. >> You may take the the bag. [Music] That black bag, >> huh? >> That black bag is yours? >> Yeah, it's the empty bag. It should be empty by now. >> All right. I can just put the bread in there. >> Thank you. [Music] Honestly, the process is going to be pretty quick. If you if you haven't been a restaurant, if this is your first time at Fence, it's going to go pretty smooth. So, you should be all right. >> What you trying to grab? No, but you're doing a good time. My shoulder. >> Okay. >> My vehicle. Did you want me to put it in yours, Aiden? >> You want me to put her in yours? >> In the end, Miriam faced formal charges for shoplifting as well as hindering after providing officers with false information about her identity. She was released after being booked pending a court appearance. Think they'll be making better choices next time? Let me know in the comments and I'll see you in the next
