Have a seat. >> Don't put my trust on the floor. I'm not >> That's against my beliefs. >> Please don't. That's against my beliefs, sir. What the [ __ ] is wrong with you? >> He told me if I didn't do it, he'd hurt me. >> So, that means he has a gun? >> Yeah. >> I mean >> He put a gun to me. >> Banks have procedures for a reason, and these encounters show what happens when those procedures are put to the test. Here are moments when fraudsters get surprised by cops during bank scams. Hotel check-in did not go as planned for this man. On July 19th, 2025, officers responded to a Marriott hotel after staff reported a man allegedly attempting to book a room using a fraudulent credit card. Here's what happened once the police arrived. >> Who reported this here? >> Yeah. What did they say? They said they're going to open an investigation but that's all they can do for me right now. >> How'd you trace it back >> to this person? Charge said Marriott popping up. I walked up to the receptionist. She said, "Can you give me a card number and I'll I'll look at what it is." And she was able to find it immediately. She knew the guy. She knew it even before I said a word. >> Why are they letting him stay here? >> I have no idea. They're running it through their system. Get the suspect out. >> Hello. >> Hey, it's you again. >> Hey, is this the same guy? >> Oh, see. Oh, to be honest, I don't know if it's the same people if they're all friends together, but this guy came to me and it just seemed off. You know when you have a gut instinct? That's what I had. That's why I canceled it, checked it out so if it was fraud, the person would at least get their money back. But for you, you canceled your card. >> Now, to better understand the situation, the officer asks hotel staff what led them to believe the credit card [music] was fraudulent. Is he staying here currently? >> So, the person who he's staying with is not that name that's on there. It's different. >> I don't understand. Okay, what do you mean? >> So there's a bunch of guys >> Okay. >> in one room room 8808. >> Mhm. >> His friend came down which is that guy over there. >> Who's his friend? Not the >> room 8808. I don't know his name. I don't know who these people are. I just know he comes from that room cuz I see them walking together. So he came down by himself wanting a room. I'm like, "Cool." So I made his walk-in ask for the ID and the method of payment. He gave his ID and a clean Chase card. Nothing on it. Said his name and matched it. I did my work. I looked down for a second. Next thing you know, I hear tap tap click on the um on the credit card machine. So then I looked and I was like, "Sir, you didn't show me I said I need to see that American Express card." He's like, "Okay, I can show it to you on my phone." Obviously, you can't show that. You couldn't give me that. So he went upstairs, called somebody saying, "Oh, get it from my Gucci bag or whatever." He went upstairs for 40 minutes, didn't come down. Once he did Once he came back down, he said, "Oh, I can't find it." "When I come back, I'll show it to you or you can reverse the money back and I'll use a different card." Once he said that, I said, "I know this is fraud." I checked it out and I never seen him there. But they're still upstairs on the eighth floor in 8808. >> He did a So he paid for a room >> for five nights. >> Which Which room is that? >> Um I didn't put him in the room yet. It was going to be 5519, but I didn't put him in that room. It says it on there. I didn't put him in that room. He's not in no room because he couldn't verify that card was his. I wanted to see that American Express that said his name on it like he showed me the blue one, but he couldn't give me that. So that's why I knew he came down and said, "You can You could reverse the money back. I'll use a different card with my name and then we'll go from there." >> Before speaking with the suspect, the officer confirms whether the card was ever charged and gathers [music] a few more details about the man involved. >> And since that I hadn't seen >> So did the money get reversed or what happened? >> So I checked it out. Usually, it's a pending charge, and I checked it out, so it should go back. But, this is the thing. He said he canceled it, so I don't know how to process it. >> It should go back, but my my question is, so Is that him? >> I think so. I think so. >> Think so? I can't I can't go off I think so. >> Yes, the guy in the white shirt with the hat. >> Okay. Did he give you an ID? >> Yeah, he gave me his His name is Proper, yeah. That's his name on there. It's every >> Where is it? >> On the blue right here. That's it right there, and that's his full address, cuz I got it from his ID. >> I'll put one. Can I get an additional 15? Did he give you a Florida license, or what was it? >> Draw, New York. >> Who is this? The staff guy over there? >> Yeah, the one in the white. >> With the staff's account in hand, the officer makes their way over to speak with the suspect. >> Follow me, right here. You got your ID on you, brother? >> Huh? >> You got your ID on you, brother? >> No, I left it upstairs. >> Okay. Do you have any photo identification on you right now? >> Identification on me? Not on me right now. >> Why not? >> Cuz I left it upstairs. I'll go get it when I get to the >> You have a photograph of it? >> Of my ID? >> What's your name, sir? >> Tyro Clairy. >> Tyro what? >> Clairy. >> Tyro what? >> Clairy. >> What room are you staying? >> I'm not staying in here. I'm here with a friend. >> Okay, so you were trying to book a room, right? >> No, I wasn't trying to book a room. >> Your friend just left? >> No, he's going to the front. >> Okay. I'm not staying >> All right, let's walk inside real quick. We have to talk real quick, and then we'll figure it out, all right? >> Okay. >> What room is your friend staying? >> I'm not even sure of the name, the the room number. >> The officer begins by asking the man to identify himself. The only question now is whether he'll tell officers the truth. >> Okay. >> Take a seat right there. >> Where are you from, boss? >> New York. >> How? >> From New York. >> I put it in person. K E V K E >> What's the problem? >> K E >> What's the problem? >> So, right now I'm doing an investigation, okay? I need you to identify yourself. What's your first name? >> An investigation >> On what? I need you to identify yourself. What's your first name? >> No, I understand that, but I'm asking you what's the >> I'm conducting an investigation. I don't need to disclose that right now. I just need you to disclose your name, okay? >> K E V O N >> V O N C L E A R L Y >> C L E A R L Y >> You have a Florida license or anything like that? >> A Florida license, yeah. >> You do? >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. So, listen, before we have a conversation, I'm just going to read you your rights, okay? You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to talk >> To what? >> To a lawyer. I'm getting a lawyer. You have the right to talk to a We're just having a conversation. I have to read you your rights, okay? >> Okay. >> You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him or her present while you are being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you before any questioning if you wish, okay? You can stop anytime to exercise these rights and not answer or answer any questions or make any statements. Do you understand each of these rights I've explained to you? >> Yes, sir. >> Having these rights in mind, do you want to talk to us? >> Yes, I'm asking what is the situation. >> Okay. >> So, earlier today you tried uh renting a room. >> I tried extending the room, yeah. >> Okay. She seen what >> How old are you? >> Who me? I'm 35. >> Okay, you're a 35-year-old man, right? >> grown man. >> Yes, sir. >> Do you think it's the best idea to just swipe somebody's card without knowing their name? >> I'm telling you the god honest truth. Whether you want to believe it or not, I did not know. And if she said I heard her say you guys have camera in here, she can see that I did not use my Apple Pay. >> Mhm. >> I'm telling you the god honest truth. >> Okay. I said, "Okay, I'm going to go back upstairs, and I'm going to bring the person down." She said, "Okay, you can have some." >> So, initially you provided her a blue Chase card. >> That's my Chase card. >> And then you decided to swipe a different card. >> Look, because my card didn't have the the the correct amount of money on it. >> The man insists he only switched to another card because he didn't have enough money. But after admitting he doesn't know who the card belongs to, the officers have heard enough.
