Just to make sure, officers reach out to the Monroe Police Department to verify her claims of employment. Try to figure out this backpack. Barbara something. Wait, I can't make them call us any faster. It doesn't work like that. I I don't know their number. Yeah, really. I don't know their phone number. You're claiming you're a police officer, but you don't know your supervisor's name? Okay, I'm done. I'm done with the conversation. Well, I'm charging her with disorderly at the very least. This is the bag she's claiming is not hers. Yeah, I [Music] I don't know why he's doing that. I can't explain him. Um, but apparently Paul met her at Speedway. She's homeless. But we're trying to just like she's claiming this bag of stuff is hers, and the homeowner is claiming this bag of stuff is hers. So, we're trying to figure out whose stuff this actually is. She claims it's hers cuz she came here with it. Homeowner claims that it's hers and she stole it. Yeah. This homeowner says it's theirs? Yes. Where did it come from? I I she had it on her back. Where did it come from here? She claims it came from inside her house. But I I didn't even get a chance to really talk to her cuz she's just been losing it. Like a bag or anything? I'm bad about stuff like that. Okay. Apparently, the headband and everything she has is The clothes I don't know about the rings, but the headband the purple headband that's around her wrist, I think that's mine. It was in my closet. Is this your phone? Okay. Give me just a moment. We'll be right back. This stuff was in the bag that she came here wearing and she's wearing this lady's clothes. Was she staying there? No. Paul picked her up last night from Speedway. He also lives here. Okay, so she was a guest there. It's not a burglary. Correct. So, it just be theft. If she wants charges cuz technically she got all her stuff back. She said none of this is hers. Okay. So, what what all did she steal from them? She took a backpack, another bag full of clothes, chargers, dog, prescription medication, like something else. Did you get pictures of all the stuff she stole? Yeah. I took pictures of all of it. Okay. Just I want to know if she's either going to the hospital or jail for theft. We're not dealing with her all night, so. So, we're not going to get the impersonation? No. That's ridiculous. We have a video of the suspect footage of the video of the suspect leaving from here. So, we knows They said it's him. But do you want to press charges on him or do you not? I don't know. What is he He scared of everything. Um, but he had a nice tool get the tablets back. Yeah. So, my partners before they're going to take him anywhere like to jail or anything, they're going to search his backpack. If we find them there, we'll give them back to you. If we won't, then we'll once you find out that information like the serial numbers and the model, we can put it in our system and then if we come across them at a later time, we'll return them. Maybe he hiding it somewhere. Maybe. Maybe. Question is, do you want to press charges? Like do you guys want to Do you guys want this guy to go to jail for what he did? Do you guys want to press charges for the burglary, the damage, for stealing What What is better for him? I mean, I personally think, and this is just my opinion I mean he committed a crime and he should, you know, pay the price for it, which is jail time. You know, if people don't press charges on these criminals, then they you think nothing's going to happen and they're just going to continue to do that. And maybe not to you, but to someone else to someone else. So, nothing changes. They only get if they don't get caught and people don't want to prosecute, they only get bolder and bolder and do bigger and worse things. So, but I remember he brought the backpack and the Yeah. bike, right? But he's claiming that his black jacket And he came in twice through door. Maybe him, I don't know. We're not sure yet. We're not sure Anyway, I I press charges so maybe hopefully he he doesn't The officer now wraps up the case by completing the recorded statements from the restaurant owners. He doesn't hurt other people's property and stuff like that. Okay. Now this is where this so crazy you know that Okay, I'll go grab some paper and then we'll do what's called a recorded statement, pretty much an official statement regarding what happened and we'll be done here. We'll deal with him at a later time and then I'll send your husband that video link, okay? Okay and then So I'll meet you back here in like 2 minutes. I'm going to go grab some paperwork. Okay, so like you get so the way that find out the tablet I have to call you back to let you know Please do so. That way we can put it So I'm going to go and find out if he doesn't have them and if he doesn't then I'll let you know and you can find out that information, okay? Let me go grab the paperwork. Is it okay if I leave? If you guys can open the front door I'll just come that way when I come back. The suspect was formally charged with burglary and taken to jail without further issues. Number three. Burglars hide-and-seek game ends in seconds once the canine joins the hunt. Next up in Florida. This incredible footage proves that sometimes the best crime solvers don't wear badges. They wear collars. On March 21st, 2024 Sarasota Police Department officers responded to a residence after a burglary suspect fled during an investigation. In response, they deployed their canine Brody to search the area. Leave it. There's no unit that's doing something in the code of 10-30. Good. Leave it. 141 is 1936. Track. No. Track. Good boy. Number two. 13-year-old burglar's mother calls the cops on him. On March 14th, 2023 officers responded to a residence after a mother called the police on her own 13-year-old child who had not one but three active warrants related to a burglary. Here's what happened when officers arrived at the scene. Hello. Hello. Ladarius What? You returned home, right? Yeah. All right. Your mom I guess you were missing and we had to come check on you and make sure you're okay. I came home yesterday. I stayed the night at somebody house. Okay. Where were you staying? Please. Please. Despite their efforts, the boy refuses to cooperate giving officers a hard time as they attempt to get him into the patrol car. Take you on a 10-30. [Music] Jesus, Mary, Joseph. Get him there. No. Don't walk. [Applause] SIT IN THE CAR, DUDE. YOU WANT ME TO GET ON THE OTHER SIDE? HE THINKS HE'S ON A 10-30 first. Number six is not working. He hasn't BEEN SEARCHED. OH. The mother contacted authorities when her son returned home after being missing for days. While she recognized his wrongdoing and turned him in she still pleaded for officers to handle him with care. However, with the boy actively resisting the officers have no choice but to be firm. We have to control him. I understand. Yeah. But it didn't look like he was on top of him. That's all I was saying. And I wasn't That's what it looked like so I just thought I wasn't And you'll see on your Listen, he was black. [Music] Stop. Hey. Hey. Relax. Stop. Just relax. We're going to sit here all day until you calm down. I DON'T GIVE A [ __ ] BRO. OKAY. BRO, LET ME GO. I'M JUST GETTING ready to search you anyway. Let me go. Let me go. [Music] [Laughter] [Applause] As the boy keeps resisting and refusing to cooperate, officers turn to his mother for help in calming him down. [Laughter] [Applause] [Music] Fortunately, the boy's family understands the need for discipline and gives officers the freedom to handle the situation as necessary. [Music] [Music] [Music] Ultimately, the suspect, at just 13 years old, faced charges of resisting arrest and simple assault, along with his existing warrants. Number one, college freshman learns the hard way that stupid decisions have consequences. This final incident takes us to a Western Washington University, where an officer on patrol spotted a man attempting to pry open a dorm room window. Here's the moment the officer decided to confront him. My D for me? I do, yes. Just let you know, my body cam's on, it's recording audio and video. So, when I roll up, it looks like you're trying to get into that window. Okay, yeah. So, let's let's just break through all the the BS right here, okay? And let's talk about what's going on. Because I don't think that it's extremely malicious, but it's probably something silly and stupid and you feel embarrassed about it. And now that I'm involved, and I'm taking a very serious role, cuz that's my job, I got to get I got to cut through it and figure out what's going on. Yeah, I get um bored and kind of antsy and like to do silly things for attention, so I like Okay. tried to open that up, but I knew it wasn't going to work and tried it anyways. Okay, so what is it that's that's in there? Is that somebody's room or It's uh I she said it was a janitor's closet sort of thing. I wasn't looking to go in or like even if I got it open, I would just close it right back up. So, the window is partly popped open there. Partly open, but securely locked from what I can see. Is that window supposed to open? I'm not sure. It doesn't look like it. Yeah. So, here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to try and figure out what's going on here. I've got another officer en route that's going to come and hang out with you while I go down on the other side and figure out what's going on. Got you. So, once I get figured out what's what's happening here, then we'll get it resolved. Can do. But, just to let you know, I know you say you like to do silly things and that kind of stuff, this is a felony. Is it? Yes. Oh. This is burglary. So, anytime you try to get into a space, a building, if it's a room, then it's an then it's a residence. If it's not, it's commercial. So, anytime you try to get into a space that you don't have a right to get into, it's called burglary. According to the report, the man is enrolled at the university, but is a non-resident student, making his presence near the dorms late at night unauthorized. So, that's a felony. Okay? So, now I got to do something. I'm not inclined to take you to jail for burglary or anything like that, okay? But, I do have to figure out where we're at and what I need to do. At at the very minimum, what I'm very likely to do is just call an RA and let them know, and then you can talk to the RD about it and and figure this out. How about you take your hands out of your pockets, cuz I don't know what's in them. Sorry about that. No problem. Um yeah, just keep your hands out there for me until my other officer gets here, and then we'll figure it out. All right. Got it. This here is Officer Cunningham. He's going to hang out with you for a second until I figure out what we got on the other side of this window. And uh Do you want me to go? See what we need to do. I'm just going to check it real quick. This gentleman here, as I was coming by, was uh opening up that that lower window. Got you. Are you a student here? Uh I am, yes. Awesome. Do you mind just stepping up here for a moment? Sure thing. Thank you. I appreciate you. A short while later, the primary officer headed inside the building to inform the tenant of the room about the man's earlier attempt to break open their window. Police Department. What can I help you with? Yes. Is this your room? Yes. And is that your bedroom back there in that corner? Yeah. Do you know what room is that? Somebody's bedroom or Uh this is a bathroom, and these are my bedroom's back there. Why, what's up? Okay. Because I had somebody trying to come into the window, and I just wanted to check the window from the inside. Please do, sir. So, I don't want to I don't want to interrupt you, but it was this back corner this back corner. So, there's not another room off of the kitchen? Here. There's nothing on that side. There's this side, but uh these are This this is the window right here. This one? Yeah. So, someone was trying to get in? Uh yes, somebody was trying to open that window. Uh so, I I I don't believe it was malicious. He was talking to his friends up there through the window here. So, he was trying to pry it open. Very very weird. So, that's That makes me aggressively uncomfortable as the director of the building. Me, too. Well, thank you for He he's a student. Would you like to come out and talk to him? Cuz I have the on-call RA en route. I would rather not, but I would really like them to write a report about it. The RD called us en route. Oh. So, we've got an RD coming. Wonderful. So, I feel that his his actions were not malicious, cuz I've talking to him and stuff. I think he was just goofing around, his friends were there, so he was just horsing around. It was a dark room because of the um the color on there the tinting on the windows. He He thought that this was a custodial closet. No, that's that way. Yes. Still not appropriate. So, yeah, exactly. So I have him detained for burglary second right now. But I don't really want to hit him with a felony. Having talked to the suspect, the officer now reassures the tenant that the man wasn't acting with malicious intent. However, he still asks her if she wants to press burglary charges, which is considered a felony level offense. So that's why I was having housing come in cuz I figured having housing take care of this was probably a lot more appropriate unless I'm looking at a real, you know, burglar trying to maliciously get into somebody's space. But regardless, he will be made aware of just how stupid his activity was this evening. But we'll take care of this and you don't want to pursue burglary, do you? Cuz it's It's more up to you because it's your residence. It's okay. I think this will be enough. We've had issues with noise back here and above. I suspect this will be enough. Okay. And I'll I'll have my supervisor be the one to have the conversation. Excellent. Excellent. All right, thank you very much. You, sir, are a very lucky young man this evening. That is a residence. Oh. And I spoke with the resident and they do not feel like pursuing burglary charges this evening cuz I explained that you were young and being stupid. And that this will probably correct your behavior and it will be taken care of locally through the housing department. Whereabouts is it that you live? Uh I live just over there. I can give you the exact address. So you don't live on campus? I don't live on campus. Okay. Um but you are an active student. I am, yes. Do you have any questions? Uh nothing about this situation, no. Okay. Excellent. I I think that a big part of our job, besides just making sure that the enforcement stuff is done, is to do some education so that you understand why. So if you had questions, I would prefer that you asked as opposed to go on, oh, that was a near miss, I'm glad I'm going to be going, but you know, sometimes people still have questions. A few moments later, the on-duty resident director arrives to intervene. You're the RD on call? Yeah, my name's Lily. Lily? I am Sergeant Bailey and this is Officer Cunningham and this is Mr. And we're wearing body cameras and they're on. Thank you. Appreciate it. And Hey, can you back away from your window, please? Thank you. I was I was cruising by and Mr. McGinn was down at this window fiddling around. Got you. Uh as I drove up, he stood up. I stopped, contacted him. Mhm. These are his friends up in the window that are watching what's going on. Okay. And he said that he was outside fiddling with the window to see if he could get it open and um he was just bored. Interesting. Uh I explained to him that this is actually burglary when you're trying to open up or make entry into a room and I found out that that is a residence. Mhm. Um one of your employees Mhm. and so uh I I spoke to that that person and they were not inclined to uh pursue burglary charges. Okay. So um I felt that maybe it would be better to have this handled through residence and student judicial rather than the through the legal aspects of it. Makes sense. So I will be completing a small report for documentation purposes. Of course. Um but I thought That's helpful. I would leave it in your your great hands. Thank you. Sure. I appreciate you. With that, officers turn the case over to the Dean and resident director for further handling. So do you understand that? I understand this, yes. Yeah. So we're not dealing with you, but you will get probably contacted by the Dean of Students who in a lot of respects here is much worse than talking to us. Because we're just we're like, you know, we're here to make sure that nobody's hurting each other. He's here to make sure that the school runs properly and they handle and dole out discipline as they see fit according to the code of conduct that all the students sign. But then again, his discipline is going to be a lot lower level than ours. than well, we would send you to court for. All right. What do you mean you were bored? Uh I was waiting for my boyfriend to come back. Uh he was in his room getting some pens. Okay. I'm going to move my We're going to go back to my house. before we wind up with another officer. Okay. Thank you. You can go. I'm done. Okay. Uh it was Thank you. Did you think it was a room? Did you think it was a hallway? Uh my friend's friend told me it was a janitor's closet. Okay. And since I don't live here and didn't know that room was, I believed it. Got you. Do you live on campus? I don't. I live just off campus by by the uh the hangings. Okay. Are you a freshman? I am, yeah. The resident director now informs the student, who turned out to be a freshman, of his actions and the potential consequences he may face. Yeah, so just for your info, that's a professional staff member's room. That's not even an RA. That's somebody at my level's room. Um and they just texted me to let me know that you tried to break into their window. So that doesn't look very great, right? Um so since you're not a residential student, this will probably go through student conduct. Um just as a piece, I took a picture of your ID cuz I'm going to write a report on my end. Um and if somebody will probably contact you. Um just so you know, within the residency life policies, it is prohibited to climb through windows. Um you're only allowed to enter and exit through doors. Does that make sense? Yes. Okay. In the future, um I really advise you to just wait for your partner um and never climb through a window again because it could lead to this as well. Um and I can guarantee you if it wasn't on campus, it would have led to a lot more than them just walking away. Yeah, or not. Yeah. You most likely probably would have got arrested. If if I wasn't able to contact them or them, Yeah. I'd be taking you to jail. Yeah. So um I'm not sure what it looks like. I got to be honest, I've never had anybody try to break into a professional staff member's apartment. Um even if that wasn't your intent, that's definitely what we're dealing with right now. Um so at this time, I do ask that you leave campus. This time since you're going to go through the student conduct process, we're not worried about trespassing tonight and it'll go through that process anyway. I do ask though and I'm advising you to not be in this area. Um I will let the RA know that you're not meant to be in this area. If they see you, you will be documented again. Um that's just so that people can rest easy tonight and know that nothing else will happen. Does that make sense? Yeah, I fully intend to make tracks. I get it. Any questions for me? Um no, I'm very sorry to have disturbed you, both of you. It's okay. Um I will let you go and then somebody will be in contact probably tomorrow or the next day. Got you. Cool. Well, thank you. All right, you got your ID back? Uh I do, yes. Okay, no questions of me either? Um not this time, no. All right. You have a safe evening and stay out of trouble. Ultimately, no criminal charges were pursued and the student received disciplinary measures from the university's student affairs department. However, if the officer or tenant decided otherwise, the outcome could have been much worse. Do you think they'll think twice next time? Let me know your thoughts in the comments down below and I'll see you in the next video.
