Number five, shoplifter thought the hard part was over until the handcuffs clicked into place. On November 22nd, 2021, officers responded to a Home Depot in response to a woman concealing merchandise. What's worse, the suspect had allegedly been seen in other area stores that day. Officers find her quickly, and here's how it unfolds. >> Hey, my guys. Yo, >> let me talk to you real quick. >> Bravo to 53. What's your 1020? >> That means stop walking, sir. >> Huh? >> Please stop walking. >> Get away. >> Both of y'all. Come here. >> Where y'all coming from? I came. >> Okay. From City TR. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. You put anything inside your purse while you were there? >> I don't. >> Just hang on. Okay. I'm going to give it back to you in just a second. All right. >> Mind if I see it? >> Yeah. >> Did you buy this wallet? >> You didn't buy it? Is that all you stole? >> Did you steal anything else? >> I still Well, look, that doesn't mean y'all are in deep, but let's talk about it. >> They might just ban you. Don't be running from me though, bro. You keep edging away from me. You need to chill. Okay. >> Get some perfume and that's it. >> And the wallet. >> I can buy it. >> All right. Y'all got IDs on you? >> No, I don't have my >> Okay. All right. What's your name, bro? >> I didn't I didn't take nothing though. >> No, I I pay for I pay for everything, so you didn't take nothing. Why don't you Why don't you go pay for everything then? >> I mean, I ban you then you can't ever go again. I mean, >> I pay for my stuff, sir. >> Okay. What's your name? What's that ID? >> I mean, I pay for everything, sir. That's me. I think >> Did you know she was doing that? >> No, I did not. I know nothing about that, sir. >> I work every day. I work at I work at Baker Truck and I pay for my stuff, sir. >> Okay. >> Yes, sir. >> I pay I pay for everything. I pay for everything, sir. >> I got you, man. >> Yeah. Everything, sir. >> You say you do construction? >> Yeah. Yeah, I work a big old construction, sir. I got work, sir. >> What kind of stuff y'all do? >> I do work in land. I work, sir. I work. Okay. All right. Let's go pat you down real quick. Okay, man. Be cool. >> I'll work. You know what I mean? >> Both suspects are quick to get defensive, insisting they've done nothing wrong, but with the evidence on hand, officers are sure they're involved. >> He didn't stick anything in there. I'm going to get I'm going to hand it right back to you. >> Okay, man. Well, you're with somebody who just stole something, right? So, >> yeah, I know. I don't know about none of that. >> I promise. I don't know enough. I know that. >> Okay. >> That's silly, isn't it? >> Yeah, I know. I would have this. >> That's all right. Here, y'all. Walk with us back to the front of my car. Okay. >> He bought this. >> I'm going to give it all back to you. Okay. I'm going to talk to him for you, man. See See if >> they might just want to just ban you. >> Yeah, please. >> Who else is one? Do I got a unit that's out of city trends right now? >> Time for go to talk. >> All right, stand by. Did you guys find anything on them? Uh, we're going to try to check cameras and all that. >> Uh, perfume and a wallet. I still got to search the rest of her purse. Are they wanting to do a ban or they want to press charges? >> While two officers question the man and woman outside, another speaks with store security to piece together what happened. >> What's going on, ma'am? >> Yeah. So, it's a lady that came in here. She's known for shoplifting. >> Okay. >> Is she banned from the store? >> She's not banned from this store. Okay. >> Um, so as soon as she came in, I saw her pick up that box of herium. >> This one >> right there. Two out of them >> and then left one bottle in there. So she went to the back and I guess she took the two bottles and put it in her bag. She was back there for a while. So I really couldn't see what she grabbing back there or she grabbed anything else, but I know for a fact that she took those two bottles. So I was trying to pull up on camera to see. That's what we're looking for. >> Yeah, they found a perfume. >> Okay. >> Do they want to press charges or >> Yeah, you guys pressing charges or >> uh Yeah. >> Yes. >> Did you stop her? >> So, yeah, we believe we have them over at Home Depot. >> I'm not sure yet. You got the video of it so I can kind of see if that's going to be them. >> Inside her bag, officers find cosmetics and other stolen items. The proof is there, but she still believes she can talk her way into leniency. >> No, I I got it. I got it. Oh, it's okay. >> I got to do my job. You know what I mean? >> That's all I got. What if I have? >> Well, initially you just said you don't have perfume that that's all. >> That's my stuff right there. >> Okay. I still got to search it. >> My pills. I got toothpaste. >> Take it all out. I got to >> It's okay. Just be cool. All right. >> Okay. I'm just >> Why you stealing though? >> I don't know. >> It's not a good habit, is it? >> How old are you? >> I'm 35. I was stealing something for somebody birthday. >> Oh, come on. Now, >> if you'd asked him, you don't think he would hook you? >> We got 18 units in the aerial waters and Memorial Hospital. >> Okay. >> Can you come to give me a break? Can you please give me a break? >> That's up to them, dude. You know what I mean? If they say they want to press charges, and I'll say this, if they do want to press charges, it's just a misdemeanor. So, what would happen is we would take you to get fingerprinted. You wouldn't be going to jail. You would just be >> um what they say. You can go bank >> if that's what they choose to. Like I said, I don't have any I don't have any control over that. Okay. >> While she voices her side of the story outside, another officer quietly gathers more evidence through witness accounts. >> Yeah, that's going to be the people we got at Home Depot. >> Yeah, >> that is them coming in. >> Now, the man, he purchased whatever he uh >> So, the man purchased everything that he got. >> Purchased what he got. She was just over here just >> Yeah. wandering around like she picked up some stuff there as well as to the back. Didn't see her come back to the front with anything. >> Okay. So, she didn't pay for anything. >> Okay. >> So, she bought some things but stole the perfume. >> Yeah. >> And it was just the two bottles of perfume. >> That's all I could see. >> Okay. So, yeah. >> She has anything else on her other than the >> Do you have the receipt we can match up with? >> You can't be stealing them. >> I know. I just want babies. >> I know. That's That's little kid stuff. You know what I mean? >> I wasn't thinking so. >> I wasn't thinking. >> Especially with how crazy cameras are nowadays, man. You know, >> I wasn't. >> You think they don't see you. >> I was working. I wasn't thinking. >> I got you. Hey, you still out there? Yes. Yes. We got two things of perfume. Well, body mist, perfume. Two things of perfume, a wallet, and a necklace. A uh pretty and paid necklace. Hold on. See, you guys sell like a pretty and paid necklace. They found that as well. I don't know if it's from here, but uh >> I think we Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I think it's back. >> And then like a Benjamin Franklin uh >> wallet. Yep. >> From here, too. >> All right. >> Yeah. Um it's from here as well. >> All right. So, um, you want to come over here and, uh, grab the items so we can get a, um, a print out of that cuz I'm guessing they won't be able to to check without it. >> They're trying to ring it up now for a while. But >> if you could just get if you could get um, or whatnot to the AM. Um, so you how are they saying they want to play that? with receipts confirming his purchases. The male suspect is in the clear. The woman, however, is confirmed by staff to have stolen merchandise in her bag. Unfortunately for her, there's no place for denial now. >> So, what what did she buy? They're saying she bought some stuff. >> Yeah, they're pulling it up right now. But the gentleman bought everything that he had, right? And then as of right now, they're only sure that she took the two bottles of perfume out of that package right there. But she did also purchase some things. So she did. >> Yeah, but they didn't see her take anything else. So I'm just trying to confirm that it was just that. >> Okay. >> So we're just waiting now to see um >> if she actually bought the wallet and the other stuff. >> No. >> No. No. She She confirmed it. No, >> I confirmed it. I would never >> She took the wallet. She took the necklace and she took the two fingers of perfume and that's it. >> Somebody birthday. >> Yeah. >> All right, man. Well, we're just waiting to get that >> that uh amount real quick and then uh >> we'll head up. >> If you want to just take it to them so they can ring it up unless cuz they don't pay for it >> cuz they don't do they know what the brand is of that necklace >> if they don't know how they know what the brand is. You told them. >> Can I pay for it? >> Oh, okay. Yeah. The Pretty and Paid. >> Okay. I didn't know. >> Can I pay for it? >> Yeah. Paris Hilton and Ariana Grand or Grande or however they call her. again. Pay for it. >> She's asking what if she just paid for it all right now. >> Stupid. >> Okay. So, yeah. How what do they want? At >> least how they want to press charges for it till I know what they do for you. >> All right. Well, uh yeah, just get uh >> I'm going to I'm going to need their info for the complainant. >> So, we'll wait on you. Do they want her banned? Do they want her banned, too? >> I would not I would not come back. Do >> y'all want her ban? >> Yeah. >> From the store. Permanent. >> Yeah. >> All right. Yeah. They want a permanent ban. And I'll I'll give you their information. I'll text it to you. >> Realizing what's ahead, she starts pleading with the officer, knowing the man is walking free while she's the one in trouble. >> I appreciate it. >> Seeing if they're going to work with you, man. >> You say he's talking good. >> Yeah, man. Dude, if your name didn't come back clean, then you would already be arrested, right? You're good, man. Just Just be cool. Okay. >> My name's >> You're good, bro. Why are you stressing, man? >> I'm just trying to hear my in front of people. >> Cool, man. >> So, I'm good. >> This is all your stuff, right? >> Yes, sir. Talk to him. >> Yeah. Well, he's good. Yeah. >> Are y'all just Are y'all with each other? >> Definitely. >> Okay. So, she >> So, we're trying to get him to work it out. >> I can't make no promises on you. Yeah. >> But if they say they want to charge you, >> Okay. >> Understand? >> I don't know. He nobody say you knew >> you're not being charged. >> That's what I'm telling him. >> That's why I brought it up to him. He's seeing if you This is an officer over there. He's trying to work it out with him. If they say no though, hear me out. Because of you know, you wouldn't actually be going to jail. I would take you to get fingerprint and I'll drop you off wherever you want to get dropped off. It's a misdemeanor. >> I take you to our forensics office. They just roll you, get your fingerprints, and then I'll drop you off wherever. It's a misdemeanor. It's a misdemeanor, dude. >> Well, I won't get bothered. >> No, you you'll be charged with misdemeanor shoplifting. You get Do you have a clean record? >> No, I have I mean back in the day. >> Well, how recently, though? >> No, not recent. >> Okay, they'll work with you, man. So, just be cool. Stop stressing. You ain't You're not spending the night in jail tonight if they decide to charge you. It's sounding like they might. I'm waiting on him to text me. Okay. >> This isn't up to us as officers. You know what I'm saying? >> Yeah, but you actually cannot spy like >> You heard me say that, didn't you? >> Yeah. >> Can they just do they sometime let people pay for stuff? >> Sometimes. Yeah. >> It's up to them, man. People rob these places blind. >> I ain't never pay that good. >> You're good. Yes. You waiting on me. >> Okay, then chill out. >> But you're good, man. >> After insisting she'd done nothing wrong, she's now going along with the officers. At least for now. >> Who are you getting the stuff for? >> My My sister. I have no birthday. >> Okay. >> I can't I ain't been working. I got a bad tooth back. I can't get >> You still got a toothache now? >> I got a bad tooth. My teeth open my wing tooth. >> You ain't got them cut out yet? >> I got an ounce. Ooh. Yeah. I got mine cut out when I was uh 19 or 20. >> Trying to be dull. >> You said what's up. >> They're being dope. >> The pain. Yeah. >> No, I'm being dumb. >> Oh, no. It's okay. >> I don't want to talk to my mama. Why you calling my mama? >> I know. Why calling my mama? I don't feel like talking to her. >> I don't feel like you call her. >> So, it's 5025. >> 5025 for everything. All told, the merchandise comes to roughly $50. It's not a significant amount, but it's enough for the store to move forward with charges. >> You just text me. They do want to press charges. Okay. You do? >> I do. But listen to me now. I know you're stressed out. I know you got that access. Obviously. Yeah. He's got to put you in cuffs. We're going to take you to get fingerprinted. No jail time. >> No jail time. >> No. No. No. We're not taking stuff like that. >> They're the key. I can go to >> I I said that to them, but they didn't they don't want to press. >> I can't I can't You know, I can only have power like that. So, yeah. I tried. I tried. She'll be banned from there, too. >> She'll be banned from there. >> Yeah. So, y'all don't If you go back, that's cool, but she can't be going back. >> She can't go back. >> Yeah. >> The incident concludes with a female suspect being charged with shoplifting. Number four, a shoplifting couple learns that entitlement doesn't work on the police. On February 5th, 2023, officers were called to a gas station after reports of a suspected shoplifting. A couple had allegedly stolen from a nearby store before fleeing the scene. Here's what happened when one officer caught up with one of the suspects. That's >> So you guys saw him? >> I watched them >> on the camera. >> Yeah, I saw him walking through the store, grabbing a bunch of stuff. >> All right. >> Right out the door. >> All right. You want to be in touch with me? Hey, man. Let me talk to you real quick. So, what's going on? Guys from uh theft protection from the uh Meyer saying you guys loaded up a cart and uh just walked out, started loading it up in the car. Is that true? >> No. >> No. Why is he saying that then? But you guys loaded up. >> I don't know. I'm telling you. >> 30. I'm not at the Meer gas station. >> So I'm confused. >> So you don't know? >> No, it has nothing to do with me. >> So if we check your car, you didn't take stuff from my >> You can't check my car. >> You haven't have a receipt with you, man. So we can straighten everything out. >> Receipt for what? >> For stuff on my >> Who? Listen. Do you see me coming out of Meer? Do you see me coming out of Meer? >> He said that he saw you guys coming out of the loading up. >> I understand. >> And you match. Listen. Listen. So you match the You match exactly the description of what he said. Were you at the Meer? Yes or no? >> I just said you came to the gas station. I'm at the gas station, right? >> Okay. >> So, why would he why would he be telling me that you're >> I don't know. I'm letting you know I'm at the gas station. So, I'm at the gas station. >> All right. Why is he telling me that >> I'm going to conduct my business at the gas station? >> All right. Why is he telling me business? >> Why is he telling me you loaded up a cart of stuff into the into your car? >> Like I told you, I'm going to go conduct my business at the gas station. >> No, you're not. No, you're not right now. Listen, you're being detained. >> Do I need to call my lawyer? >> You don't need a lawyer right now. >> I mean, well, you're telling me I'm detained. >> Yeah, you're being detained right now. You can't just detain me for no reason. >> The officer doesn't get far before the man denies the accusations outright. The woman also doesn't hesitate to do the same. >> Were you guys the same higher? >> No, we just pulled up right here to get gas. We're literally counting change for gas. >> Where's all this stuff from in the bag? >> This That's what we've been You need to pick it up. >> No. >> Listen. Well, >> he's from theft protection. He's telling you. >> Okay. Did you Did you >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Listen. >> Did you catch me at Meyer? Listen. >> Did you Can you answer my question? Did you catch me at Where's your supervisor? >> I don't want to speak with you. >> Why do I need my supervisor? >> Didn't I just ask your supervisor? I have nothing else to see say to you unless you have your supervisor come. >> Listen, man. I just I just want to straighten things out. Speaking with you, no more. >> I just want to straighten things out and figure out what's going on. >> Well, I'm not speaking with you no more. I asked for a supervisor. >> Go ahead. It's fine, man. Listen, he's telling me that you loaded up a cart full of stuff. What happened? Were you at Meer? We can get you. We can get you on your way, man. Just help help me help you. >> You got your ID on you, boss? >> Um, I'm not providing. I asked for a supervisor. >> I mean, uh, like I said, you guys are asking me about somewhere I'm not even at. I'm at a gas station getting gas. >> Okay. Well, I'm talking about where you came before this. >> And like I said, >> we need your ID. >> Can I have a supervisor? >> No, you don't need one right now. >> You if I ask for a supervisor, you have to provide. So, no, >> we need your ID. >> We have to provide a super. I will call my lawyer. I mean, if we're going to make this whole situation. >> Hey, M. Stay in the car. I'm so scared right here, man. >> Stay in the car. >> You guys stay in the car. Get in the car. Just record. >> Stay in the car. >> They're not getting no ID from me. They're not getting nothing from me. >> I told them I'm done talking to them until supervisor comes. That is not my problem. >> All right, man. Come on. >> You got your ID? >> We're asking for a supervisor. No, I currently don't have a phone ID. >> All right. What's your name and date of birth? >> What's your ID? Where's your ID? >> I asked for it. It's hard to tell if it's rehearsed or just a coincidence, but both of them are giving the exact same responses as officers question them apart. They can deny all they want, but the officers know better than to believe their claims. >> Come on, man. You guys do you understand that you guys do work for me, right? Like you guys you guys work for for the city, which I pay taxes, right? Okay. So, you guys >> pay taxes in Homer Glenn? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Let me see your ID, man. I told you. Just help me figure out what's going on and then we can get you on your way. We can get you on your way, man. supervisor. I'm not >> What's your What's your last name? >> Please supervisor. >> We don't need one right now. I need your name. >> I feel like I need a supervisor. I feel like I'm being targeted for >> You're being detained. >> Why am I being detained? >> For retail theft. So, I need your ID >> for retail theft. >> Yes. >> Do you have any Can we get a reporting now or something? >> Something. >> That's loss prevention right there as video of you two stealing from Iron. We need your ID. >> Uh I asked for the supervisor. I have nothing else to say. I I keep saying it. I could I have every right to plead the fifth until you guys have a supervisor come here. >> All right, you can plead the fifth, but you got to have your ID by yourself. So, you need to get your ID otherwise that's going to be obstruction. >> So, you need to provide your ID. >> Actually, let me call my lawyer and then we we'll handle it that way. >> He didn't steal anything. >> Okay. Well, somebody stole something and there's there's >> bag in the car. >> Okay. Well, then I need your ID. >> This is crazy. >> Hey, ma'am. Do you not have an ID? Do you not have a driver's license? >> I don't answer any questions. This could just be a ticket. >> Yeah. Let me just I'm going just No, I don't have my ID. I have a picture. I have to turn my recording off. Yeah. >> All it is You guys did steal something? >> Yeah, it's the bag in the trunk right there. I mean, >> it's just a ticket. >> Yeah, it's this right here. >> It's just an ordinance. >> I was going to say I'll take the ticket. He didn't do anything. >> Nobody's getting arrested. You're just getting a ticket. >> Yeah, he didn't do anything. That's why I hopped out the car. I don't need anything happening with him. >> Okay. >> All right, man. Let's put the phone away. >> I don't understand why we're not providing a supervisor. >> Do you have your ID with you, man? Come on. >> Okay. I understand what you're saying, but I don't >> Yeah, if you understand, just take out the ID then. >> I just don't understand why I'm providing >> because I told you they're telling me that they saw you walk out with merchandise from the store. >> Okay, >> we're trying to figure out what's going on. >> As officers confront them again, this time with witness statements, the man doubles down on denial and becomes increasingly combative. This time around, his girlfriend doesn't follow his lead. >> I understand that. And I'm not trying to call you no problem. I'm just saying it's the same instance though as if I say that he did that he stole something out of my car. I mean I can I can give a description. I can I can do all that. You guys are telling me I need >> breath if he said if I just talked to I just talked to Cheyenne. >> This is a simple ticket. >> Um so what's going on? >> Yeah. He didn't do anything. I won't >> thank you. >> I already told him he doesn't he doesn't know and he's just tweaking cuz he doesn't want to drop. Cuz if I refuse to ID, >> I'm going to arrest you. >> Do you still have your supervisor come, please? I'm I'm requesting a supervisor and you're telling me I'm not allowed to have a supervisor. That's in my rights. >> So, we're violating my rights. >> No, it's simple. Tail theft. You get a ticket. >> Babe, can you just stop talking so we can just get a ticket and go? Just shush. >> It's literally a piece of paper and you pay a fine. That's it. You don't go down to county. You don't do any of that. I'm trying to solve this as easy as possible. It is a simple retail theft where I give you a court date. That is it. Because this guy's got you on video. >> Okay. I mean, but I >> I'm not just harassing you for no reason. >> And I'm not saying that. I I totally understand that. But I asked him for a supervisor. I don't like the way he spoke with me. >> We don't need We don't need a supervisor. >> But if I request all it is, it's a local ordinance ticket. >> But it's my right. If I request a supervisor and I want one on scene, it's my right. >> 35 minutes. >> I mean, I would like a supervisor. We don't. All we need is your name cuz you're involved in a retail theft. If you got warrants, that's that's something else. >> We don't care. >> We're here for a retail theft. We give you guys a simple local ordinance. >> Can you still have your supervisor come? I I want to speak with the supervisor. I haven't >> Why do you want to speak with our supervisor? >> Cuz when I call him, he's going to be like, "Why?" >> I would like to speak with the supervisor. >> I I'm going to need more than that. >> I don't like the way he conducted business with me or >> You can file You can file a complaint. The woman admits to the shoplifting after learning it would only result in a citation, but the man isn't ready to let it go. He's about to make things worse. >> But I would like the supervisor here for me to file the complaint. >> You can file it online. >> Got to do it. >> It's online. Everyone can access that way. >> So, do I So, I'm going to give you my ID, but do I got to call the police to have the supervisor come? Like, >> if you call the police, we're going to arrest you for misusing 911. >> We're going to go to court and you're going to make yourself look very terrible. >> I'm trying to save you guys some time. >> How are you saving this time? >> Good. We're going to we're going to >> cuz we asked you three times about it three times video. >> So plain and simple. >> Pulled out my wallet and said here I'm going to give him my ID. >> Baby. Okay. Can I talk to him? No. No. You can walk with me. Let me just talk. >> I just need you to stay stay ready. Stay ready. Baby. Baby. >> Baby. Listen. Listen. Babe. Baby. Talk to me. Hey man. Hey. >> I have no problem. >> Hey man. Just listen to Listen to what your girl's telling you real quick. >> Please. Please just give them your ID. >> I was giving you >> You're not at wrong. This has nothing to do with you. Like I even told them this is I did some dumb. He was confused as to why they even walked up to you. Okay, just give them your ID. This got nothing to do with you. They just need to identify you cuz you were with me. >> Okay, I'm giving them my ID. I just told him that. But I have it on video heard just saying now getting arrested for obstruction. So now I do want the supervisor to come. I really do. I'm not going to have >> I didn't know that she was saying he was getting arrested. I'm not going to ask again. >> I asked him three times to provide his ID. He then refused. So if you're going to continue to refuse, then it's going to be obstruction. So all right, we're fine now. But if you continue to do that then yeah stop here. This is I'll call him but >> we don't you're not getting arrested. You comply >> we don't need that. Why you trying to extra now? I'm trying to go home. >> I'm trying to go home. >> Go over there. Just go over there. >> I'm trying to tell him off. >> If I call my supervisor and he asked why >> we don't need him. >> I don't want a supervisor. I I personally do. >> He does not need one. He does not need one. What does he say he would like to do? >> He's going to want your guys' information. You guys can't come back. And then um ordinance violation. >> Okay. >> For retail. >> For retail. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> That's fine. >> Okay. That's fine. >> So, was all that stuff in those bags? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I told you. >> Everything is set to end with a simple ticket. However, despite the officer's willingness to move on, the man keeps pushing, risking a worse outcome for himself. >> Grab that. We'll just have you guys sit in the car and then we'll give you guys the ordinance ticket. Okay, that's it. You ain't got no warrants, man. What? >> No, but I want to speak with the supervisor still. I don't care what she says. >> So, if I So, if I do call my supervisor, what am I going to tell him? >> That I would like I would like to speak with more than that. >> For what though? For what? We're leaving with a ticket. So, for what? Why are you calling him? If she said, it doesn't matter what she said. Clearly, right? It don't matter. So you calling a supervisor keeping us here another 30 40 minutes when we trying to go to car. Why are you trying to do all of this? >> I want that then I get that. I'm a girl man. I make my own decisions. So stop. Please. I'm not arguing with you right now. I'm not doing >> cuz you sat here. >> Okay. It's not it's not listen to you. I don't we're not >> Would you accept a phone call? Because my my sergeant legitimately is is a half hour away. But I'm not trying to hold you guys up. I'm not trying to hold her up. Would you accept the phone call? >> I meet him at his office. I have no problem going in. >> You know where our main station is off? >> Do you want Do you want his his phone number? He'll give you a call. >> Yeah. If you if you have a card from him for him or something. >> I don't have his card. >> And your beef is you like, "Oh, you conduct a business." >> No, I don't have beef. I never said I had beef. >> Why do you want to speak to us? >> I would like to make a formal complaint >> about >> I I don't I don't I mean I don't have to tell him exactly why. I would like to make a formal complaint. I would like to speak with supervisor. You want him coming up here? >> You guys don't have to. It's all under the >> supervisor because she told you you were under arrest because we're still standing here. >> I'm going to walk away if you >> I don't give a at this point. You're not listening. You're not listening. >> You were trying to cause a scene. >> You are going to cause a scene. >> Let me let me call >> the key. >> You understand? We had every right to do what we did, right? That's what I'm saying. I do understand >> because you're involved actually in a crime and you have to ID yourself because you're lawfully detained. >> Yeah. And if I but if I ask for a supervisor, you have to provide. >> That's not that's not how that works. >> The man's pushing boundaries, but the officers don't bite. If they had, the night would have ended with a man in handcuffs. >> Reason why I'm going to make my sergeant drive 45 minutes for some. >> I mean, I have a lawyer. I >> You don't need a lawyer. You're not getting anything out of this. Oh, I'm I'm Yeah, >> she's taking heat from It's okay. >> Hey, Cheyenne. So, my partner uh took the bags over to the meer. >> Uh they're saying that there's still some more items that are missing like a gallon of milk, some water. Are they in the trunk by any chance? >> No. >> Can Can we check real quick? >> I mean, no. I don't think >> they're saying they're they're saying that there's more stuff. I don't want to I don't want to charge you with more than >> They're saying it's milk. They're saying that it's milk, like water, and some white box, like a mattress topper or something. What is it? >> That doesn't make sense. >> Do you have anything in the in the trunk? No, >> I know you've been honest with us. You know, you mind just showing me real quick? >> Some stuff in here is mine. I don't give a what they say. >> So, this bag is from Meer, too. >> That's from Meer. >> This? >> Uh-huh. >> And they said Gatorade. That's mine. That's mine. >> Okay. But the milk and so these stuff. Yeah. They said that it was like a another bag like some They didn't know if it was like water or like the Gatorades. >> Yeah, that's why I said >> Okay. So, the Gatorades and then another bag of stuff. >> No, we don't have another bag. >> No, no, this bag. This bag right here. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Okay. And I appreciate you being honest. I know it's >> I was saying still more food and then I just didn't want you ain't got on right now. After adding everything up, the loss comes to around $300. At this point, it's the store's call on how to proceed. >> You're being honest with me and that that's everything. Then that should be it. >> Do you know what number they're at now? >> I have no idea. I know my partner took the uh other bags. And >> what was that? >> I have no idea. >> What quantity would have me arrested? >> I we we'll figure out. We'll let you know. Okay, Shy. I I appreciate you being honest with us. All right, Shy. So, listen. The total amount came out to $300. >> $352.77. >> In the state of Illinois, over 300 is a felony. And right now, if Meyer had wanted to press charges, both of you, both of you would have gotten arrested and your car would have been towel. But they just said they just want the ordinance violation. They're not going to pursue any criminal complaint. You guys are formally trespassed. Can't go back. Both of you. Okay. So, you guys are both getting an ordinance ticket. The uh hearing is March 25th at 5 p.m. Both of you are getting an ordinance ticket. They're not charging. No, it's an ordinance ticket, but there's still a hearing. Okay. >> Would this be a violation probation? >> No. >> No. >> With with the dollar amount, it was a class 3 felony. >> That would have been a violation. >> So, with them not doing it, that's what saved us. >> Yeah. >> We we still could have guessed up to it. Um, so this is just a local ordinance, but it's not a state charge. It's a local. >> In the end, the couple was issued an ordinance violation for shoplifting and released with a pending court date. Number three, two women learned that even snacks can lead to serious charges. Next up, on October 28th, 2024, officers were dispatched to a local Walgreens after two women were caught shoplifting. By the time police arrived, the suspect had already fled the scene. But with clear descriptions from store staff, it didn't take long to track them down. Here's what happened when the officers caught up to their vehicle on the highway. >> Yeah, I know. >> As soon as I lost it, somebody >> Okay. I heard brown >> short. [Music] You watch over [Music] here. Just take my uh take her on the table. >> All right. Step by the car. Okay. >> Am I being detas? >> Yes, you are. Yep. Sir, >> wait. >> I'm going just put your phone here on your seat. All right. >> No, I need Can you bring my phone with me, please? >> All right. Give me a second. So >> I'm just getting I'm getting there late. Just relax. >> Oh, I'm sorry. >> I'm I'm just getting there. All right. [Music] >> What's your name, man? >> Just put her in the car. It's kind of dangerous out here. >> All right. Yeah, let's just go to the car. >> I don't want you to get hit. I don't want to get hit. [Music] >> With both suspects now in cuffs, other officers remain at the store gathering statements from staff who witnessed the theft. And the footage from security cameras doesn't leave much room for denial. >> So, what happened? Oh, she saw the beginning part. I guess there's two. There's a >> I saw them in the aisle then of it. And so I saw them like they had a Florida bag, a black one. >> Yeah. >> Just stuffing it. Just filling it up. >> And they got that bag from here as well. >> Yes. >> Robin here. >> Yep. You can pull it up. So white shirt, black jacket. >> Let me check. >> All right. Can you make it bigger for me again? Is there anything that's probably a little clearer to get like a visual of their face? >> Um, because of how they came in. I don't know. We can check on this one. >> I'll just Can you pause that real quick? >> Stop that. >> That's the driver. >> Yeah, >> you did. Brains, I'm sending it to you. >> You shot me, too. How'd you find the car? >> What I did? >> Um, I was going out where the school is right there. It's like first sprink or whatever. I saw it coming out. I saw him look look at me and I like >> Oh, it went it ducked into there. >> Yeah, it was in there. So then it was coming back out when I was going we going on the call >> and then I saw it turn up and I pulled up next to it at the light and it just stopped. Green light not going. I'm like, "Oh, sure." That's so I was I was like, >> and then they pulled off into the city furniture or whatever the dealership is right there. That's when you saw me. >> Are you calling somebody on scene? >> Huh? >> Are you calling somebody on scene? >> Yeah. >> Trying to figure out what what charges we have and what's in there and everything. >> I know you asked that a while ago. >> The suspects didn't say a word during the arrest, but now it seems one of them is ready to speak. Did you say something? >> Yeah, I did. >> What's up? >> What' you say? >> What y'all waiting on now? >> Uh, we're waiting on the primary officer. She's going to come talk to you and and ask a question about it. It shouldn't happen. All right. We're all here for a reason, right? Things. Okay. >> We make sure we make sure >> I got it, bro. I did everything, you know. >> Yeah. We just want to make sure we have all the information before we, you know, accuse anybody anything. We don't like to >> Yeah. I would just go ahead and read her rights right now >> and then um see like All right. So what happen >> since she's already on the top >> charges on both um the the driver which where the skin is >> skinny. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Hey, how you doing? >> What's up? >> What's your name? >> Tate. >> Tate. >> Yeah. >> All right. I'm going to be the one doing doing the full investigation. So I need I need um ask some questions. I need a verbal yes or no if you understand me. Okay. Uh, >> you have the right to remain silent. >> No alcohol here. >> Huh? >> You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? >> Does anybody threaten you or promise you anything to get you to talk to me? >> You want to let me know what happened today? >> Uh, I I just asked I don't know. Y'all don't need to like she don't need nothing to go wrong with her cuz I'm the one I'm driving. I'm the one stop by. I'm one store and store stuff. So, out of here. >> You the one went in the store? >> Yeah, I stole the stuff. >> All right. What'd you take? >> I took all my snacks. >> Snacks. >> Yeah. >> For later. >> What kind of snacks you took? >> All the snacks yall see. I >> I haven't I ain't even been over there to eat car. I don't know what I I'm getting here last. So, I don't even know. I really want to know what's going on. That's why I'm getting everything. >> You just want to eat? >> Yeah. >> Chance at the house. >> Yeah. So you took some snacks. You know what kind of snacks you took? You just >> everything that you see. I took everything. >> She says the theft was about nothing more than snacks. And at this point, she's taking full responsibility. >> All right. What about her? >> She don't really got nothing to do with this. She just in the car. She got nothing to do with this. All right. You got anything else to let me know? >> Got any more questions? >> I don't know. I mean, no. You basically told me what happened. I'm just saying you got anything else you want to let me know? Said you went in the store, you took the snacks. You said she had nothing to do with it. >> Yeah. >> She was just in the car with you. >> Yeah. >> We had somebody else in the car. It's crazy. Y'all they got in the car right before um which car. >> Who was that? >> I'm not going to tell you their name, of course. But now they got out when we I had uh I had porn in like a little plaza. They was laying down. >> Oh, I can hear you. That big truck was too loud. What' you say? >> I said I had pulled in like a little car plaza and I let them out. >> All right. Anything else? >> Um it Okay. All right. You put your feet back in. >> So what y'all take to jail for? >> I want to take that. Huh? I thought she left. >> So, she basically admitted to >> Yeah, she said she had nothing to do with it, but said they got her on camera that she was the store. >> Yeah. Anyways, I think they're saying maybe that this is the one that pushed the storekeeper or resisted the storekeeper. >> So, um I'll call uh I'll call Doug. >> Now, it's the second suspect's turn to be questioned. The officers start by reading her Miranda rightites. Shereek. All right. >> Shakiri. >> Shakiri. I'm sorry. >> All right. I'mma read you something. Okay. I need a verbal yes or no. All right. You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand? >> Yeah. >> Anything you say may be used against you in court. Do you understand? >> Yes, sir. >> You want to let me know what happened today? >> I want to know what I'm being charged with today. I still don't know what's going on. >> Well, appears that you guys, I guess, sold something out of Walgreens or something like that. We're just trying to get to the bottom of everything. All right. So, you want to let me know what happened from your side of the story? I got her side. I want to hear your side. I'm not going to tell you what she told me. I want to hear she told you. >> I want to hear I want to hear what happened from your side. >> What um what I'm being charged with. >> I I don't know. That's why I got to hear your side. >> I mean, >> I know what I know what's going on at the store. I know what she said. I know what she's been charged with so far. That's why I'm trying to figure out what happened from your from your end. >> What do you mean what happened from my end? >> What happened when you guys went to the store? Did you guys take anything? Like what? said, "What am I being charged with?" Y'all, you already know this. You just trying to like the what? >> I'm trying to get your I'm I'm trying to get what happened from from your point of view. You want to talk? >> No. >> Okay. Watch your feet. I want >> Just want to pop the trunk real quick. Make sure there's nothing crazy going on before we leave. Of course, there's a baby stroller in there. Where's >> the baby? AJ right there, too. >> Maybe the AJ. They dropped somebody off. Maybe it was the baby they dropped off. >> Even with one of the suspects taking the blame, witnesses say both women were seen concealing items. With that, neither of them will be walking away free of consequences. >> All right, we're going to put you in our car. >> All right. Question. Please, please, please just do me a favor. Can you please get my chapstick? I feel that >> traffic. >> Where's the traffic? like in the front. It's like a EOS. It's like Yeah. Like 10, please. That's all I'm asking. >> Sit against the bumper real quick. >> This one. This one's your phone. >> Yeah. So, y'all go let her drive. >> No. Unfortunately, the guy uh they there's video of her taking stuff, too. That's the problem. >> I made her take stuff, bro. That's not on her, bro. >> You heard me, sir? >> I made her That's not on her. Don't everything you listen. Come on. I know you the one who can change situation. I'm telling y everything we going to leave. Since I'm telling y'all there's no way that y'all threw me nothing. I'm telling y everything. >> You're looking at misdemeanor theft right now. >> I know. I don't care what it is. I'm just telling you that it was all over here. I made her own. >> I get it. But she she unfortunately she went we have video and a witness of it. So there's nothing we can do about it. So >> who's the witness? >> People of the store. Can't tell. Just >> did you search her? >> All right. Well, before we put another one in, just make sure she's good. But >> y'all can't change the charge fun. >> It doesn't get It's a petty theft. It doesn't get weaker than that. >> I know, but I'm the one who did it. That's what I'm saying. I'm telling you, I'm the one who did it. >> Y'all can give her a charge for being there by standing. I know it's something y'all can >> just simple petty. It doesn't get simpler than that. >> Have a good day. She's later charged with two counts of petty theft related to the earlier shoplifting. >> Y look like y ready every time. >> All right. I just want to make sure somebody get the car. Can y'all leash do that for me? Please make sure somebody get car. Please >> make sure somebody what? hits the car. It doesn't tow the car. I got somebody like 5 minutes down the road to pick it up. [Music] >> We don't release it to the registered owner or somebody the registered owner grants permission to go in since we can't get a hold of the registered owner. Grab. >> All right. So, can I start calling now so you guys don't like >> Well, I need a registered owner is what I'm saying. >> I know. But I can't. >> No, I don't. But I can call the person who >> All right. Just search here real quick. All right. Come on. Let's come on inside. Okay. Anything inside your pocket? You >> already got the tow truck. Anything in your pocket that's going to slip five minutes, sir. Hold on. Yo yo yo. Cuz I'm start slipping out, man. Please. I'm asking out one thing. Please. I got somebody 5 minutes down the road. Y'all don't have to tow the car. >> That's the least I can do for you. I don't been calm. I told y'all the truth. I ain't get crumpled with y'all. I ain't been disrespectful. Please. >> I don't have no money to get that car out of the thing. The girl don't have money to get her car out of there. Please. >> Yeah. Take this off. >> What is uh what is that >> lanyard? >> Oh, okay. >> Put that back on the key, please. >> I got somebody 5 minutes down the road. >> Please, sir. Watch your ass. >> I'm I've been calling with y'all, bro. >> And I greatly appreciate it. >> You don't know. I don't I beat you off. Like, please don't talk. Despite the first suspect insisting she acted alone, her friend was still charged with one count of petty theft. Number two, woman tried to act innocent and tough to avoid charges. It didn't work. This next case brings officers to a local Walmart where store security reported two women attempting to leave with nearly a cart full of unpaid merchandise. Here's what happened when officers caught up with him at the exit. So, our office is going to be down that way in the other entrance. You guys want to come? >> Yep. >> We're going here. >> Cuz I'm telling you to >> You're not free to leave right now. Okay. >> But I'll steal everything that I have. >> Okay. So, how about that ID? Bash you like three times now. No, it's cool. I'mma give him my ID, but I scanned everything that I had and it's right there on the camera. >> Okay, perfect. >> Do you see me taking something on camera? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Cuz I don't. >> I've been following you guys for like 2 hours. Seen everything that you've been shoving in those bags. >> Those Walmart bags or um regular grocery bags? >> The Walmart bags? Just go. >> Let me see your receipt. You got it right here. I'll give it right back to you. >> You're going to total the tally up of everything that was in your cart. If it matches up with your receipt, you'll be good to go. >> Well, I'm talking to you. >> I was on that and you can see that I scanned everything I put in my hand. Did I not? >> That's not what this is about. >> What is it about? >> Stuff that you guys conceal in the back. No, not you guys. >> Cuz you don't got It ain't nothing on my body nowhere. >> And the stuff that was in the bags is the stuff that I paid for. >> I don't know what to tell you now. >> Okay. Well, then show them. >> Like I said, if everything that matches on your receipt, you'll be good to go. >> While the woman did pay for some of the items in her cart, she also skipcedan several others and tucked more into her bag, thinking no one would notice. One suspect cooperates without issue. The other, not so much. And her attitude is about to backfire. >> Whether match on the receipt or not, because you didn't get no rings off me. >> Oh, yeah. I'm saying I said you would be good to go. I didn't say she would be good to go. You had like what? $200 and some dollars worth of purchases on your receipt. >> I don't know how much you love. I'm just >> Okay. >> All right. Turn around. Put your hands behind your back. both of you. [Music] >> Whatever way you want your hand, let me know. Whatever's going to be more comfortable for you. >> No, I got you. I'm saying I'm saying let me know. I'll being chill with you. >> You all right? No. >> Okay. >> It will all be a >> Have a seat over here for me on the bench. >> But I didn't take anything. >> Okay. Turn around. Put your hands behind your back for me. >> Cuz I want to see what's Don't Don't do this. >> Can I Can I see what's on the camera? Because I didn't take anything. >> Okay. >> Can you Don't I'm not going to be rough with you. Turn around and put your hands behind your back. Okay. >> But I want to see what's on the camera. >> We were cool with you the whole time. I could have had you I could have had you handcuffed from the moment I seen you. Okay. >> But I didn't take anything. You had $700 worth of items in your cart and your receipt was for $20 and something dollars. You were pushing the cart out. Yes. Put your hands behind your back. >> Don't grab me like that. >> I'm going to grab you. You You think you're free to go. You're not free to go. >> But okay, I know that. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> You're trying to be rough, though. I >> put my hands behind my back. >> Then put it back there. >> Let my arm go. >> Put your hand behind your back. Thank you. >> Well, you're not welcome. >> That's okay. cuz everything I scan I pay for it and that is on camera and you ain't got me on camera. >> Okay, having a lawyer is your right. >> I'm not talking to you. >> With the handcuffs on, she's still got plenty to say and none of it suggests she's ready to own up. >> And you know that's too tight. Can you loosen it? >> I can fit my finger in between there. I can fit two fingers in between there. It's not too tight. >> I can fit two fingers in between that. >> My hand through there. I was saying, "Can you loosen it?" >> Have a seat over here for me. >> They taking us to jail and I ain't me on camera taking out of the out of the store, but they can't show me nothing on the camera. And only thing they got on the right is a some earrings >> 22 on two >> that they took off of her. Oh, >> yeah. My car's all the way the other end. You want to take one out? We'll take them. >> Okay. >> Can you refund me my money, please? >> It doesn't matter >> because I paid $40 for my items. >> All right. [Music] And then she's sitting right there and hear me talking. >> You got anything else on you besides just your cell phone? >> Yes. >> What else you got? >> Um, it's in my ball. >> What is Okay. >> I'm sorry. >> Look. Look. I'm not going to go in there and get that. >> I just want to do that in front of everyone. >> I understand that. Okay. Anything I guess what I'm getting to is anything that's going to poke me, stab me, anything like that. Okay. >> Your phone's coming out. >> You're not going to sit back there and make phone calls, you can have your nutty bar. >> All right. What do you have? What's What's in your bra? >> And I also have my vase in my apartment. >> Okay. And okay, have a seat in my car for me. Just when it seems like the stolen goods were only in bags, officers find that one of the suspects got even more creative with where she stashed the merchandise. The other lady Joseph dies me that she has a bunch of stuff in her bras as well. So anybody close I >> I mean Scrogggins is going to have to come out regardless. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I mean that's what I was going to do. I mean I've never I've never had a female that had something hidden in a bra. So I was going to ask you >> I would just >> so retail have over for her. I don't know what she all has in her brawl though. So, I don't know if it'll end up being over or under. >> Yeah. I'm gonna Mirandize her real quick because I asked her, I'm like, "Do you have anything else on you that you shouldn't have?" And more or less as like a weapons and stuff like that. And she goes, "Well, I got stuff for my brawl." I'm like, "Okay, let me be more specific. Weapons, anything that's going to poke me, stuff like that." >> Okay. And then uh I'll start I'll start doing the booking for her real quick. >> Um and then >> I'll have to get the receipt and all the stuff. Uh we call Scrogggins out when she gets here. I can I can finish doing the stuff inside. >> So what's going to end up happening is I'm going to have to get a female officer out here. More or less. I was reading you this because I I'm trying to figure out what you have in your bra. You already admitted to having things in there, but you don't want to talk to me. So the female officer will come. >> I will talk to you. I just want to do it in front of everyone. >> So you Okay. So let me re let me reass this. After I read your rights, you understand them. Having those rights in mind, will you talk to me? >> Okay. Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. Okay. So what do you have in your bra? >> Cosmetics products. >> Cosmetic products. How how much are we talking in here? Like how many items are we talking? >> Much. >> Okay. A lot. 10. More than 10. >> Probably. Okay. Okay. So that's what's going to happen. when a female officer is going to come out here. Um, the female officer is driving the wagon anyway, so it'll be that'll that'll two birds with one stone. Um, and we'll have to get those items out of there. Okay. >> The night ends with both women being charged with retail theft. Number one, she thought refusing orders would erase the charges. It didn't. Closing out our final case, an officer pulls over a vehicle linked to a recent shoplifting incident. Watch what unfolds during the stop. >> Hello, ma'am. Officer SC Lake Police Department. >> Okay. So, do you wish to speak to me right now? I I'm going to read you, Miranda. Okay. Uh due to what happened inside of the Walmart? >> Okay. >> Does that mean you're going to read Miranda? >> I'm going to read your rights. So, if it's your option to either speak to me now or >> you ask for the first. >> All right. I'm going to read your mind. What happened at Walmart? I just want to hear your side of the story. What happened at Walmart while you were there? >> Because I'm hearing like two different stories. >> So, what had happened? >> Okay. Were you or were you not at Walmart? >> You're not free to leave right now at the moment. with you. >> The problem is that you were accused of stealing at Walmart by the loss prevention manager. >> Okay. >> We know you don't have any of the proceeds in the car. So, just tell us what happened. We already recovered everything that he left behind. So, you want to tell your side of the story or No, >> I I don't have anything to say. >> You don't have anything to say? >> I don't understand. >> It would be easier for you to talk to us and speak to us. >> We just don't want to make the >> for you. You You wouldn't want to make the situation worse for yourself. >> Understand? Well, just tell us what tell us what happened. >> I don't understand. >> What don't you understand? >> I don't understand what the problem is. I don't understand why I'm here. >> I just explained to you that you were accused of stealing at Walmart. >> I don't understand why I'm here. >> Well, we need to know what happened. What did you Can you >> Why you have to talk to them? >> Can you? >> No, I can't talk to you. >> You have to >> I don't understand. >> Okay. Look, listen to me, man. >> Listen to me, ma'am. you I don't Okay, if you don't understand what happened, at least explain to me from the explain >> from the beginning you walked in there. Ma'am, >> you can talk to them. If they're accusing me of something, talk to them. >> The woman denies all allegations, but between the eyewitness accounts and the officer's findings, it's clear she's the one who shoplifted from the nearby gas station. >> We did we just spoke to them, >> okay? >> And they stated that you were stealing. we see you physically on camera, like physically on live surveillance camera, >> and we see what you were doing. It kind of it kind of leaves me in a weird situation to ask you these questions. That's why I'm here speaking to you cuz I want to get to the bottom of what happened. >> Okay, talk to them. >> I just spoke to them. >> Okay. >> We don't want to make it worse for you. That's why I want to hear your side of the story. If you could just >> You don't have anything to say. Okay. >> Okay. Um So, you never went to guest service? >> To the guest service? >> I don't have anything to say. >> You don't have nothing to say. >> I don't have anything to say. >> I >> Were you stopped by laws prevention? >> I don't have anything to say. >> Were you stopped by law?
