Getting let go is one thing. Burning every bridge on your way out is another. Here's what happens when that choice backfires. Here are four cases when employees make their day 10 times worse after getting fired. Number four, she thought she could steal $8,000 without getting caught. Then came her excuse. When a Speedway location in Florida notices its books aren't adding up, management launches an internal review that quickly points to one employee, Tracy, a cashier. It doesn't take long for police to get involved. >> We'll go back here to the office. I got it. Couple officers need this office. >> Oh, you need >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, obviously you know why we're here. I'm just going to read you this. All right. Just so we could have this. Require the warning before you make any statement. You have the following constitutional rights. You have the right to remain silent, not answer any questions. Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given. You have the right to the presence of representation of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement and during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, you're entitled to the presence of representation of a courtappointed lawyer before you make any statement and during any questioning. If at any time during the interview you do not wish to answer any questions, you're privileged to remain silent, to make no threats or promises to induce you to make a statement. This must be of your own free will. Any statement can be and will be used against you in the court of law. Do you understand these rights? >> Yes. >> All right. What's your name? >> Tracy. >> All right. Were you ever booked under a different name? >> Um, >> so there's a couple different last names or something. >> My married names. >> All right. Just checking. >> Yeah. >> All right. So, obviously you know what this is about. Um, >> do you have the little videos up on there now? >> Is up. [Music] All right. So, while he's doing that, um, we are called here about, um, like fraudulent activity >> and like false p purchases going through the POS system. >> Surveillance shows Tracy using fake cash transactions to load money onto her Chime card, bypassing the register and sending funds straight to her account. like cash purchases, no cash showing up in the drawer. Uh the money going to a cash app or a uh like a phone app system. >> Um I reviewed the videos yesterday and >> I see I reviewed the videos yesterday and saw uh appeared you were doing a transaction through the register there. >> Mhm. >> For cash to be loaded onto like cash app or whatever one of those apps are. Oh, we scanning it and then >> then clearing it out there. Do you have anything to add in with that or? >> No. >> Any reason why you'd be doing that? >> Bills. My husband's not working. My son's hours got cut. I got a 15year-old and my ex-husband just went back on the road as a truck driver. So, I'm the main person paying the bills and our lights were about to be shut off that day. >> Mhm. I know that's no excuse. [Music] So [Music] Oh. [Music] Nice. Beautiful. >> All right. Who lives there with you now? >> Uh, my husband. My ex-husband technically lives there and my two kids, my 20-year-old and my 15-year-old. >> All right. So, what exactly what are you typing in there? uh the amount load uh go on the other side, confirm, come back on this side, scan. And >> and this is into Cash App. >> She explains her method. Enter the amount, scan her phone, and complete the sale. Thinking it's all under the radar, but the store's system catches everything. It's a >> child chime. >> Yeah. Same pretty much the same thing as cash. >> And that's onto your phone. >> Yes. Have you ever done this before or like anywhere else? >> No. >> What made you like what what brought this up to start trying to do this? >> Just trying to get my bills paid. >> Did you? >> Cuz like I said, I have a 15-year-old. >> Um, did you realize that this was this would probably be videoed? >> No. >> And it's all electronic and everything is monitored. All right. >> Yeah, cuz I have nobody at home to take care of my daughter cuz her and her stepdad. Oh my god. It's like two alphas in the same house together. >> He yells at her, she yells at him. Their dad is on the road as a truck driver for creep. >> All right. Um, how'd you get here today? >> Drove. >> You drove? Your car's out there? >> Yes. All right. Do you have anything else to add in? Anything else you want us to know about this stuff? >> Do Do you have anything? You don't have pockets or anything, right? >> All right. Here, you walk out with us then. Pull my pants up. You're number three. I'm going take you over here. You coloring again. [Music] Always coloring. [Music] Which car is yours? After confirming she doesn't have any weapons or contraband, they escort her to her car so she can lock up her belongings. >> So, here's what we're going to do. All right. So, unfortunately, you know what's going on here um with the videos and all stuff and everything we just kind of talked about. What I'm going to do is I'm going to give you I'm going to give you a little extra thing here. All right. You're going to be going with us today. >> Okay. >> All right. I'm just putting it out there, plain and simple. Okay. Um, since you have your car here, you have your things to make things easier, more streamlined. What I'm going to have you do is let's leave your things in your car. We'll lock your car so we can just take your key. >> Okay. Um, there's no way y'all can follow me to the house so I could drop the car off at the house. >> No. >> To my husband? >> No, I can't I can't. >> That way he could take my daughter where she needs to go. >> I I can't do that. If we could The faster we could go in and get out, the faster you could get get to wherever you need to go. It's early in the day. you're going to have a bond. >> Mhm. >> Um it's likely just going to be a couple hundred dollar just because there's they're onetenth of whatever the actual bond is. >> Um so if we could go in there, you could be out by lunchtime, honestly. >> So let's uh let's just put your stuff in the car here. Preferably like put it in the back. >> Yeah, cuz I see you got like jewelry on and stuff. Yeah, unfortunately I can take my phone and my keys. Right. >> If you want to take your phone, that's fine. I'm just trying the less things that go in the better. Like so like rings and all that stuff. Unless you can't take them off >> or they're like some uh >> you know, super sediment, super valuable >> is like diabetic. >> Just so the nurses >> Yeah, you can let you can let them know. Just let them know you're diabetic. But and you know, you don't need assistance unless you do, you know. I'll take your keys and your phone. Want >> me to turn the phone off? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> She's arrested without resistance and treated respectfully. Officers recognize this is a financial crime, not a violent one, and avoid escalating the situation. >> Come on. We got our phone with the crack screen. >> We got We have to document like that. It seems odd. >> And your car is >> locked. >> Yeah. When the mirrors go in, it's locked. >> All right. So, put your hands like you're praying. >> Can we put them in the back? I have a really bad back. >> I could put them in the front if you got a bad back. Let me get your name tag and the the the pin off because those are things that they're going to they'll try to say like somehow that's like a weapon or something crazy. >> Well, there is a needle on this. >> Well, you know, they'll out of that stuff. Do you want me to put these in your car? >> Yes. >> All right. So, here I'll put them in the front since you're saying you have a a bad shoulder, bad back. >> I have arthritis, DDD, bulging disc, all in my lower back. >> That's fine. uh you're you're not you're not giving me any issues. So, I'm going to I'll help you out. You're helping me out. This isn't uh you know, this is just like a money crime. So, it's not like >> you're out murdering people and doing craziness. >> All right. So, I'm going to set you in here. >> Okay. >> She was ultimately charged with felony grand theft. Later in court, Tracy receives a sentence of three years probation and an order to repay $8,000 in restitution. Number three, workplace meltdown ends in a police escort. Police are called to a workplace after reports of an employee behaving disruptively during a shift. According to a nurse who witnessed the incident, a loud argument broke out between two female staff members. Management was notified and police were brought in to help handle the situation before it escalated further. They didn't give us much information on what kind if they're just being verbally combed, if they're like fighting the person. I think there's only like probably only one person here right now. Please press button. Interesting. All right. Hello. >> Hello. Hello. >> How you doing? >> So, I'm the nurse. >> Okay. What's going on? >> Two um females was having an argument like now and I told him we not going to do this surger. >> Mhm. >> I said you never stopped. Wouldn't stop. Kept going on and on. She's all way on this side. So she's coming over here to mess with this girl twice. >> First time I let it go, they women. I let them handle. >> Second time, come on now. >> So I said, "Hey, you're not going to stop. You can clock out and go home." >> That's when the threat start. She going to whoop my ass. You going to do something to me. She going to catch me out. So I called the uh call the administrator do. You got to go. She She's still here. Is she a resident here or >> she's no CNA movie? She's fat. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah. >> And who she arguing with again? >> She started off arguing with me, but I wasn't arguing with her. She was arguing with me cuz I'm looking for the person to post me on the hall working with me and stuff. Don't be calling nobody. Mind my business. I don't even work. Told me, oh, I you up. I said, >> oh, I'mma sum it all up real quick. And then she's like, "Oh, go get your go get your grandkids." Meaning she wants to fight. So I'm like, "I ain't got to go get my grandkids." >> When officers arrive, they speak with a nurse who explains that the employee in question not only argued but threatened to assault her later. >> Sum she's threatening people. I don't play. I don't take on my license. Landa, >> you know her last name? >> I don't. >> No, but she's over there. >> So basically her just walked. She got white and black weave in her hair. >> So basically she just she just needs to go home now. >> Yeah. They just want her >> get their information. Yeah. We'll get uh What time is her shift booked in? >> 7 in the morning. >> She >> is management going to contact her after like you know following this or >> she already told me management that she's going to contact the other nurse which is her nurse and send her home. >> Okay. It may be easier if you two are just out of sight whenever we help get her out. >> What's she wearing? >> She got she got white and black weave is long. You can't miss her. >> Yeah. If you guys could just stay out of sight while we while we work this out, that would be helpful. Thank you. Is one of you Miss Landa? Are you Miss Landa? Miss Landa, they want you to uh clock out for today and just, you know, leave. I know there was an altercation that happened over there. At this point in time, we're just going to have you, you know, we don't want to we don't want it to go any further than it already has. We don't want any more hairs to be split than already been split. So, at this point, we're just going to have to ask you if you would be able to get up, clock out for the day, and leave for us. >> Sure. Sure. >> A nurse can't see her at home. >> Well, they here's here's the deal. Like we have no >> she listen listen got that story y'all don't even know what they talking listen listen to me listen to me now >> I don't even know what they told what they told y'all listen to me I'm speaking here side of the story y'all just going off what they told y'all >> yes because the nurse told us that she called management and management said to call the police and ask her to clock out. >> Okay. So that's management has been contacted according to the nurse and they've asked you to clock out and leave. >> The officers approach Landa calmly explain the situation and ask her to leave for the day. >> No no no say in in this other than if you refuse to leave um and if management wants to sign a complaint for criminal trespass that that would be the next step. We don't want to do that. Just simply asking you to clock out. You can get in touch with management tomorrow. explain your side of the situation to management and and go from there. Okay? Not not saying you're going to lose your job over this. No, I have no no idea. I would say I would call management tomorrow, >> explain your side of the story to them. Um and and go from there. Maybe they can come up to a resolution. Um if it's just one employee you're not getting along with, maybe you guys are put on different shifts or uh one employee gets transferred or you guys decide to work it out and you're able to work together at the same time. who knows. So, that's where we're at. If you'd like to tell your side of the story, that's perfectly fine. I, you know, we can listen to it. But, um, it's it's not going to affect you staying here. >> Yeah. And if she's being untruthful, then, uh, that's that's going to reflect on her, and you can bring that up to management, too, and explain why. And, you know, if they choose to contact us, they can contact us and we can tell them why we had you we had you leave. Okay? So, at the end of the day, if she's lying, that's going to come back and reflect poorly on her. But at this point, just for the, you know, just so things don't escalate, this is what we're going to this is what we're going to be doing. Okay. >> Said you've been being terminated. It's nothing like that. They're just management has told her to call the police and ask you to clock out for your shift and uh I said I would call management tomorrow and explain your side of the story and uh go from there. This is essentially a for right now a civil issue between employees and it it doesn't turn criminal so you refuse to leave and we certainly don't want it to go that way. So >> and you have to where do you have to clock out at or are you just going to walk leave? I know this is a real big bother but you know we're trying to work through it with you the best we can. But instead of cooperating, she pushes back, denying any wrongdoing and refusing to share her name. >> Would I be able to get your name and information from you too before you? >> Because you you were contacted for an investigate. Here's how this works, ma'am. Okay? We're not going to take you to jail because of this, but uh if you refuse to provide your information to us, um it's obstructing identification and a warrant will be issued for your arrest. So, you can simply just give your name that name and date of birth. >> Did I refuse to give your information or did I ask you why are you asking for my information? >> My face. >> Which one is it? Did I refuse to give you my information or did I say why do you need my information? >> What do you need your information? So, so did I say no? I'm not giving you my information or did I say okay? >> Okay, it's time to go. A warrant is just going to be issued for your arrest. You're going to act like this. You're all on camera. All your actions have been on camera. >> What am I doing? You can continue to get my face. >> Tell me what I'm doing. >> All you have to do is provide your information like he asked. It's simple. It's simple. You're getting in my face. Just asking for you. I'm not doing I'm not yelling. I'm not I'm not aggressive in my opinion. >> Unreasonable for you to get in my face. Unreasonable. >> Unreasonable. >> I'm just going to show you. Okay. When you go like this to somebody, that's showing aggression. Okay. >> I understand what you're saying. >> Just a document what we did here. >> Are you willing to give us your name? >> Yeah, I got my name. What else you >> don't have your name? Your name? Your your last name. We have your first name. That's all we have. >> Last name. >> Okay. Can you spell your name for me? >> L O. >> All right. Very good. Thank you. >> Thank you, ma'am. >> You were super nice. What? You were super nice. >> After she clocks out and exits, officers inform staff that she's gone and advise them to follow up with management. >> I know you guys kind of have an argument. Did she like physically threaten to fight you here at all in any way? Like, >> no, she she did it to me. She just told her to go get her grand >> my grandkids. So, you know, >> basically, Ryan, I told her, I don't got to go get my grandkids. I said, you I said, don't come near me. She said, "If I want to come near you, I'll come near you." I said, "No." I said, "You need to just go." >> And she's like, "No, I ain't going nowhere." I said, "Boo. I ain't got time. Boo." Like, you know, I'm too grown for this. >> Exactly. And you're at work. Did she threaten to to fight you at all or >> Yeah. >> What? Okay. >> I didn't have anything to do. I was just I mean, we were at work and it's just like, "Keep it down, y'all. You know, >> we can't do this here." >> No. Mother. >> Yes. Bailey, she the one >> I can't allow you to do this, >> right? Are you want any any criminal charges against her at all or? >> Yeah. >> What What exactly did she play? I don't >> What exactly did she say to you? >> She told me >> she going to catch her outside of here and beat her. >> She going to catch me outside of here. >> Beat her. >> That's what she said. >> Um, if if you want to, we can charge her uh with disorderly conduct. Um, we're >> I have to get you a piece of paper real quick. Okay. >> Yeah. I'm going stay inside right here. One of you guys have to let me inside the door real quick. >> Yeah. If you guys haven't done so yet either, uh, let management know that you called us. And >> no, I told them I I said when I'm hanging up, I'm literally I'm going to call I'm going to call. She said, "Well, what she told me?" What she say? Don't call 911. Call in an emergency. >> Call a non-emergency. >> That's what she told. So she they they I let them I contacted them all and let them know what I was going to do. >> Yeah. Well, call them back whenever we leave here. Let them know that we came. >> They also explained that a disorderly conduct citation will be issued and they'll return the next day to complete the paperwork. >> Let them know that uh she was uh she was escorted from the business. She was she was seen leaving into the parking lot. Okay. Uh and she clocked out. So, just so you know, you cover your bases and you let them know, hey, yeah, she clocked out. She left for the day. Hey, are you going to be working tomorrow by chance? You >> Yes, tomorrow night. >> Maybe. Um, we've got your I'm all out of those forms. Uh, I forgot to print some more out. Okay. >> So, we'll come by >> tomorrow night. Um, >> what time you work? >> 7 to 7. 7. >> We work 5 to 5. So, we'll we'll come by. Um, >> and I'm here tomorrow, too, for um 3 to um 11. >> Okay. would just essentially um issue her a citation for disorderly conduct with the court date. Um, >> would you be able to look her up in the system and just double check she got she gave us the right name or no? >> Maybe it's >> she gave us L Smith. >> Not sure cuz I mean the DO didn't even know that name. She was asking me >> management would would have it though, right? Correct. >> Yes. Okay, just checking. All right. Like I said, if there's any issues uh this morning, like if you guys see, do you know what car she drives? You guys, well, if you go out to your car in the parking lot and she gets out of her car, we'll just start again. Call us immediately. Come back in here. Um call us immediately and uh someone will be back out. >> All right. So, we're we'll uh give our court date for disorderly conduct and then uh uh you know hopefully management takes care of the issue. >> Okay. >> Sometimes when you're asked to leave for the day, it's best to just go. Fighting back rarely makes things better, especially when the police are involved. Number two, entitled employee goes too far pays the price. Officers are called to a restaurant after a reported physical altercation between two employees. Here's what happens when they arrive at the scene. >> Pretty much all started yesterday. He started arguing with our other coworker, was disrespecting him for no reason. It started the stupid thing over politics. I told him, "Do not bring politics up. It starts arguments at work." That's exactly what ensued. They got in each other's face. one of um I had to send him home because he pissed everybody off and I was just completely over it at that point. >> Um our other coworker got so mad cuz he called his mom. He's listening to everything I'd say. >> He called his mom. So he You can see the evidence. He punched the basement door down there. >> He punched the door down there. >> Yeah. The bathroom basement door. >> The guy that was outside. >> Yes. And then same coworker was here today. Both of them started vicking once again going at it because he keeps saying under his breath. Paul was home again for the second time. Other dude got so mad he left home crying because he's not like he's not a confrontational person. And he started calling me names, calling me fat, all this [ __ ] It's the only job I can get. >> Okay. So, >> how did he end up with all >> I don't know. >> Okay. >> He wouldn't have hit a woman. He smacked me in my face. >> He slapped you in the face. Yes. >> When did he do that? >> He did when we were all outside back there. >> Okay. Is this before or after he What? >> What? >> This before or after? He's covered. >> This was before or Yeah, before he smacked me first and that's when it took offense. >> All right. Let me see your face. Close your eyes. >> The woman confirms to officers that she was slapped, but also says her response was defensive. She doesn't appear to have visible injuries, and her timeline of events remains vague. >> I mean, I was fine, but >> So, how long slapped you in the face? >> I don't know. This happened after like 8:20, 8:30. >> Okay. >> Been here trying to clean up, finish pizza orders. >> Okay. So, did you call your boyfriend at all? >> No, he came here. >> Your boyfriend came here? >> Yeah, he just showed up, said hi. >> What's your boyfriend's name? >> I don't have to give that information. >> Well, the problem is is he did put his hands on this other employee >> and he put his hands on him, too. >> I know. I need the full story, though. So, I I need his name. I need to be able to contact him and follow up. >> I don't know. He's supposed to be coming here soon. So, >> okay. So, do you have a driver's license on you or? >> Yeah, it's downstairs. >> All right. So, is your boyfriend on his way back? >> I think so. I don't know. >> Can I have his >> What was he wearing? >> What was he wearing? >> I don't know. White shirt, black short. >> What's his name? >> I'm not giving that information unless he shows up. You're not going to give me his phone number or anything either. All right. Well, tell him I need him to come back here cuz I need to talk to him about him. Okay. >> Can I talk to you for a second? >> Does she have any signs of being involved in a in a uh in any sort of physical altercation? >> No. >> Cuz she was involved in the battery on this. So, I'll if if she's got no fi feasible explanation of how this guy is involved in a battery or whatever and claims that she is and she's got no marks on her, evidence says this guy is telling us the truth and she needs to be arrested. >> Officers quickly grow suspicious due to inconsistencies and evasiveness in her statements. She continues to deny having any involvement in the incident or possessing any video evidence, even though surveillance footage shows her recording with her phone and actively attacking the other employee. Ma'am, I'll tell you exactly what your friend just said. Did you delete that? Because I can figure out whether or not you deleted the video off of it. So, I'll start from there. >> I've never had the video. >> I have video showing you in the back walking around videotaping it on the phone. >> My phone was in my hand. I'll show you right now. I do not have anything in here >> cuz here's cuz here's the thing and I'm going to tell you >> nothing. No video. I'll go to my recently deleted as well. >> Listen to me. Listen to me, please. >> Nothing there. >> Okay. that can all be cleared. But the phone now is involved in a crime, which means that we get to confiscate it and I can send it to the lab to have them look for >> I don't have anything in there. I promise you on my if I never had my phone was in my hand. >> I don't want any promises that cuz you also told my officer over here you did nothing and I got video of you kicking him and spitting on him. So >> Okay. Well, he slammed me in my face. That's okay, right? It's okay to hit a woman. >> Show me the mark >> because that was first. Show a mark. It happened an hour and a half ago. Didn't you call? >> Yeah. So, why didn't you call the police? >> Because what are you guys going to do? >> What do you think we're doing right now? We're investigating and certainly we'll arrest anybody that did any sort of crime. >> Okay. Well, he slapped me. I'm not going for that. I want to press charges on when we first got here. You weren't honest with us that of what you actually did do to him. >> How was I not honest? If he hits me first, that's okay. >> No, you didn't tell us that you kicked him and that you were spitting on. >> Okay. Well, he hit me in my face. So, >> let's hold on to this for just a second. >> I asked you if you touched him at all, and you said no. >> You did. >> Well, he hit me. That's okay. >> No, it's not. But I I what I'm trying to understand is why you didn't call us when he hit you. >> Because I don't know. I wasn't thinking about that first. I was thinking about protecting myself. >> Okay. So, we have a video everything that happened. >> I need your boyfriend's name. >> When asked to identify her boyfriend, she refuses to give his name, phone number, or any way to contact him. >> It's part of the investigation. >> You have information that I need on this investigation >> that involves it involves a battery to you and it involves a battery to your coworker as well. >> You're right. You're obstructing my my work here. >> That's not my information to give out. >> It's illegal. >> Do you you know you know who it was, though? >> No, >> you do know who he is. >> Okay, I know who he is, but I'm not going to give his information. >> Well, you're committing committing a crime by doing this. >> I'm not committing a crime. >> You're obstructing justice. >> You can't do this. Okay. You can be placed under arrest. I'm sorry. He hit me first. I don't know what you guys want me to say. I need his name. I want to press charges against him. >> So, what's his name? >> I want to press charges against him. Please. >> I need to know his name. >> And I'm need to press charges against him. >> Okay. Well, you're you're obstructing my investigation. You understand that? >> So, what's his name? >> And then he can he's allowed to antagonize people like this. Just walking around the building pointing at people. >> No. You guys are allowing that. >> Okay. Did you not see me yelling at him as he was doing that? >> Yeah. Acting like that. >> This is ridiculous. And he follow me a horse. Okay. >> Here. Come over here. Sweet. >> This is ridiculous. >> Okay. What's his name? >> I'm not giving his name. I'm sorry. I just want to press charges on him. That's all. >> Okay. Let me explain something. I'm going to I'm going to be real blunt with you and I'm going to explain this. >> If you don't give me his name, you're going to end up getting arrested. cuz you have information that's very pertinent to what happened here and you're withholding that from me. That's obstructing just >> despite repeated warnings, she stays tight lipped and responds with growing defiance. What's >> his middle name? >> I don't know. >> Date of birth. >> We haven't even been dating that long. >> How long you guys been together? like for a couple months like six months now. >> What's his birthday? >> I I gave you the name. Okay, >> I know. I need his name and date of birth. >> Press charges on >> his name and date of birth is the minimum that I need. >> I don't know. >> Where does he live? >> I don't know. Not around here. >> All right. You're lying to me. >> No, I'm not. >> You don't know his birthday? I just know know the name. >> So ridiculous. Can I please press charges on him? >> I got to figure out what's going on because I'm getting such a small side of the story from you. You've already lied to me and I know you're lying. >> All right. Ignore him. Ignore him. Please, you're you're withholding information from me. You're lying to me. >> I can't help you if you're not truthful. >> I'm not lying. I just >> You already lied to me. I know you know it's perfect. >> Hey, because I don't want to deal with this. Like, >> I know he knows you're >> I have a job to take care of. I don't want to lose my job. Like, >> why are you going to lose your job? >> I'm just saying he's already probably going to get fired. I don't want to get fired, too. Like, this is all I have. >> All right. So, What's his birthday? Look, I need to identify who this guy is. >> Okay. Well, you're going to see it when you look it up. Like, >> I don't know what kind of tools you think I have to find people, but you're not giving me enough information. What's his phone number? >> I don't know. I'm not giving that to you. I'm sorry. >> You're withholding information. >> She insists on pressing charges against the man who hit her, but won't provide the basic information officers need to take action. >> You're obstructing my identification. You're asking me to arrest somebody, but you're not giving me any information. >> I just said, "Can I press charges and you haven't given me an option?" >> You're not giving me any timeline of what happened. And you've already You're lying. You're lying to me about your boyfriend and you're lying to me. >> I have literally just told you everything. >> Were involved in it at all. >> Wait right here. Okay, I'm going to ask you one more time because I'm about to arrest you. >> Okay. >> What is your boyfriend's name? >> I just told you. >> Okay. So then why did you call him a different name on the video? >> I did. >> Yeah, you did. >> She's lying to us. So go ahead. She's under because she's obviously continuing to lie to us over and over again when she's obviously involved in all of this. So at this point, I've got nothing left. I've got no reason to believe anything she's told us. And I've got video showing that she's attacking another individual. >> Try to give you every opportunity. >> Where's it at? >> Where is it? >> In my stomach. My stomach. >> All right. Hang on. Hang on. Hang on. I'll have a female. I'm going to have a female. >> She's ultimately charged with battery and obstruction. Number one, teacher's secret sip turns into a DUI nightmare. A private school teacher ends her day with an arrest after co-workers suspect she's been drinking on the job. Staff offer to give her a ride home, but she refuses and decides to drive herself. As she drives away from the school, an officer working off duty nearby is flagged down by staff who insists she's intoxicated. >> Someone from your school suspected that you were drinking and that's what drew the attention. And then when you were kept inching up on him when he's parked doing lawn equipment that that made me that's why I came up and stopped you though. >> Yeah. I wasn't sure he was doing so I just basically got sent home because I was having a panic attack. >> Okay. >> And they told me to get home and call them when I get home. >> Gotcha. Okay. Have you taken anything today? >> No. >> Did you drink anything today? >> No. >> Okay. All right. I got someone else here. They're going to come and check into a little bit more. You probably shouldn't be driving no matter what. So, where do you where do you live? >> I live. >> So, not real far. Okay. But still in the just kind of what I'm seeing, it doesn't look like you should be driving right now. >> I'm just having a very emotional >> even with all those emotions going. What What is going on? It just doesn't seem like it might be a good idea to be driving right now. >> I understand. >> All right. Give Give him a couple minutes. Say, "Come here." And we'll we'll get it figured out. Okay. What's What's your name? >> Do Do you have your license on you? Thanks. We'll give the other guy a couple minutes and uh then uh we'll check into it if there someone that could give you a ride if if we end up going that route. >> I I I guess my supervisor can. >> Okay. All right. Well, let's see when he gets here. We'll maybe see if we can do something like that. All right. >> Totally did not want to get into this at all. I'm sitting there running the gate back and forth letting people go in and out of the church or whatever. >> This teacher or principal or something flies up and says, "She's drunk. She's drunk." I'm like, "Okay, well not, you know, for the school." >> I go, "What is she a parent or a teacher?" She says, "The teacher." >> Okay. So I come and this trailer here she's like right up on you know they're doing lawn equipment >> and the guy >> the officer catches up and pulls her over after noticing she's inching dangerously close to people working on landscaping equipment >> and she just keeps inching up on them. So I figure I got enough for a traffic stop. So I do that. The eyes are definitely watery this at whatever. I'm just having a panic attack, >> but I look in Asus while I'm waiting here >> about one year ago. Um I think it was Zycli. >> Yeah, remember he's I think he's a school cop now. >> Okay. >> He took a report here that someone found a problem with alcohol in her classroom. So, I think we got So, >> hey, if you guys do end up doing a DUI, I'll do a supplement of saying, "Hey, I took the keys out of the ignition and this is why I made the stop." Make your own you guys, you know. >> All right. >> But that guy was just wondering why why are you here? You're supposed to be at the gate, you know, pass around and relieve you back. So, I'll give your ID and uh and um whatever. the the school had sent her home today, too, cuz of drinking. >> I don't know why they did that. Like, that was counterproductive. Then chase her down. Yeah. >> All right. Yeah, we'll we'll run her through. >> I don't know. >> It might. >> I'm going to get back there. Let me know what you guys do end up doing. If you do, I'll do a stop. If not, then we're back. >> Yeah, I got you. >> All right. Thank you. >> All right. Thanks, Mr. >> Miss Lauren. >> Hi. >> Hi. My name is Officer Styles with Clearwater Police Department. >> Hi. >> What's going on? >> Well, I just kind of got fired from my job. >> Okay. >> And so they offered me a ride home, but I only live in >> Okay. >> So, I just wanted to get home. >> Why were you Why do you believe that you were fired from your job? >> It's It's a long story. >> I mean, I'm here to listen if you can give me like cliff notes. I'm not completely fired from the job. >> It's I got a I got >> The woman tries to explain her situation, offering justifications for her current condition. >> I I got um an offer from Hillsboro County. >> Okay. And then they retracted that from me. Okay. And I just found that out. And since I was like kind of depressed and upset, my supervisor told me just go home and relax and just >> Okay. >> Be okay. >> So, do you know why this other officer stopped you? >> Because I was inching up closer to >> I'm sorry it's hard to hear you over this. uh lawnmower. Hopefully he'll turn it off in a second. So, why did the other officer stop you? >> He said because I was inching too close to the truck. >> Okay. Well, can you um either put your phone aside or hang up that phone call and step out of the car for me, please? >> No. >> Okay. >> No, I don't have to. >> Well, you do. So, I'm telling you right now that >> you drinking today? >> No. >> Okay. I'm asking you to step out of the car. >> I'm asking you to step out of the car. No, >> you are either going to do it voluntarily >> or I am going to do it myself. So those are your options. >> Okay. >> So I am asking you >> to put the phone on the side or hang up the call, but you have to get out of the car. >> Hang up the phone. >> It's my fifth of I guess. >> Can you Can I call my supervisor? >> No, you don't have that option. I'm asking you to step out of the car. >> For what reason? >> Because I would like you to do some field sobriety tasks. >> Don't do that. Don't do that. >> We're going to DUI investigation. Okay. You're already exhibiting clues of alcohol impairment. Okay. >> How? If I'm crying. >> No, it has to do with your eyes. >> If I'm crying. >> No, I can see it in your eyes. >> So, I understand he's telling you to not step out of the car, but I'm telling you that I'm giving you an order to step out of this car, and if you don't step out of this car, I'm going to remove you from this car. When asked to step out of the car, she hesitates and invokes her rights. So, will she cooperate or dig in her heels? Let's find out. >> Let's just be cooperative and talk to us out of the car. >> I will be cooperative. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> I'm sorry. I'm just very >> I understand your emotional state, but you have to understand that whenever we tell you to step out of the car, >> your fifth minimum, right, is for custodial questioning. >> I understand. Let's have a step over here. >> All right. So, as we informed you, >> so what am I supposed to do? >> I'm going to ask you to do some field sobriety tasks. >> Okay. >> If you're willing to participate in them, >> Yeah. >> then I will do the field sobriety task with you. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Mhm. >> Real quick, have you had any alcohol today? >> No. I've been crying all day, so I'm sorry if my eyes are >> all right. >> A hot mess. When was the last time you did drink alcohol or consume any type of like nar? I I came from rehab in December. >> Okay. So, you last had a drink when? >> Last time had a drink I I had a lapse um about two weeks ago. >> Okay. And did you just have like your one day of drinking and be done or >> It was two days of drinking. Yeah. And it was a lapse. So, it wasn't a relapse. I didn't >> Having that in mind, you're you're going to say you haven't had any alcohol. >> I haven't had alcohol yesterday. No, >> the day before or the past two weeks. >> No, I had to get myself together. >> Yeah. >> Um Okay. Stand by. I want to get the car and pull it up and get the paper. >> Okay. Just stay right here. >> All right. Can you do me a favor? Can you state your name for me, please? >> Okay. I'm going to ask you some like medical questions first and then we're going to get into the exercises. Okay. Okay. So, they're going to sound some of them are going to sound like a little silly. >> Eventually, she agrees to the field sobriety test, but the real question is, will her behavior back up her claim of being sober or will the test tell a different story? >> Do you have any physical defects? >> No. >> Real quick, so what happened when you left the school? So, I left. They asked >> They offered you a ride. You said no. I just want to go home. >> I said I just want to go because I'm >> Okay. >> And I'm so close. >> Why were they concerned about you driving? >> Because I was crying. >> Okay. Well, did they or did you tell them that you consumed alcohol or had a beer or something or >> No. No. That wasn't the issue. >> Why would they flag down the officer who stopped you? Why would they flag him down and say, "You're drunk. You're drunk. Go stop her." I would say that yeah, like honestly I had like a nice conversation with people I work with. So I don't know if it's like some outside source or something that was >> from a different department, but the people that I work with like they they were very concerned about me just because I was crying and upset. >> Okay. Where which school do you work at? >> I work for um private schools in Ellis County. So I work for So, I go to three different schools and then I come here as my office. >> Who Who you last talking to at the school? Catherine. >> Okay. Do you have her number? >> If it's okay if I >> Yeah, I just want to call her as well. >> You said her name is Catherine. >> It It's Kathleen. >> Okay. >> What's her last name? Miss I can't even spell it. Just say it. >> Miss Goldchshire. I wouldn't be able to spell it. >> It's okay. Phonetic is all right. >> I just have her as Kathy. So this is >> No, no, no. Just tell me the number. I'll call myself under the car. >> The first test is the horizontal gaze. She's asked to follow a pen with just her eyes. [Applause] Can you see your hair? I don't know. Sorry. >> Sorry. Just your hair is literally the exact point where I need to look. >> Yeah, I know. My hair is off mess. So is my hair. I totally understand. Okay. So you're exhibiting all the signs, okay, of impairment right now. Just looking at your eyes. Okay. So, has that changed anything with you as far as to what you've consumed today? >> It doesn't make sense. I didn't consume anything. >> I did I did have a rough day. Like, I did. >> What do you mean by that? Huh? >> I just got fired on my job. >> So, >> so you being emotional isn't going to affect you exhibiting signs of and or alcohol. Okay. Like there's like a saying like the eyes don't lie. Like >> like we know there's something on board. Basically >> there's a nestagmas in your eyes that's uncontrollable after you consume alcohol. >> So what did I do wrong? >> So you're operating a vehicle. >> But what did I do wrong with my eye test? >> But you didn't do anything wrong. It's an involuntary motion. >> Hey Kathy, this is Austin Miller with the Clearwater Police Department. Um hey, so we're out here with Lauren. Um, >> the officers aren't convinced. Her behavior, her eyes, and her inability to follow instructions point to impairment. >> Oh, well, she got pulled over um just after she left the school. >> Um, now, were you or someone the the folks who flagged down an officer working across the street at the church to tell them that she needs to be stopped? She she shouldn't be driving. >> No, no. I'm on the side of the road. She's talking with another officer right now. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, um, so what's the situation here? So, I'll cl >> Yeah. >> So, she's like a teacher that, um, was sent home. Um, basically like she has some emotional stuff going on cuz she got like let go from another job. Um, so she's like, you know, teeyed already and stuff. So, she's working here at that um whatever the the school is, the fundamental school. She gets sent home. Um they offer her like to take her home or like you know a ride share or something >> and she's like, "No, I live down countryside. I'm going to just take my car." Um so, Officer Pers is across the street at the off duty job at the at the church. >> Yeah. >> Um and they run over and flag him down as she drives away and they're like, you know, stop her. She's drunk. She's drunk. So, he's like, "Okay. So he comes over, catches up to her over here, and she's like inching behind um this trailer, like to the point where it's like like there's a guy behind the trailer, and she's like inching toward him, and he's like, "What?" So he stops him at that point. Um makes contact. Um since he's on the off duty, he calls for a unit. We get sent. >> Um so we kind of start the questions. Right now, she's saying no alcohol. Um she's saying she has had an alcohol problem in the past. She had a relapse two weeks ago. Um, but I'm like, but how about today or the day before? >> What do you smell? >> Um, I haven't been close enough to like smell. Um, but she she's all clues on HGN. You know, she's, >> you know, >> the officer then briefs his colleagues, bringing them up to speed on the situation and ongoing investigation. >> Yes. Yes. She's on set of 45 maximum deviation >> and lack of pursuit for sure. and vertical as well. Um, so I kind of want her to do that best. >> Yeah. Yeah. I'm I'm just here to help you if you need. >> Yeah. If if you're not doing anything, um, >> yeah, >> you guys two >> 219. So So the the teachers at the school, like one teacher thought that they smell. >> Okay. And another woman I talked to said she was unsteady on her feet at some point and they were concerned about her operating a vehicle. >> Yeah. >> And she wanted to leave on her on board. So that's when they flagged down Officer Pers over here. >> So what did you do? >> Um I was going to do the DUI since I'm in phase three. I had >> Yeah, that's what I I told him. >> You can help us out. We'll cut them loose. >> Um I uh after just kind of let you know. Um we're like riding doubles today. So that's why there's so many people here. And then that other guy, he's just going to let me borrow some like tapered chalk or something. And then um we'll go do the exercises. Okay. And then he'll be out of here. So don't feel like there's like a little couch in your leg. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I'm sorry. >> Yeah. No, it's all good. >> We're just going to walk right over here. >> Okay. Can you do me a favor and stand right here on the line with your feet together and your arms down by your side? feet together. >> Okay. So, we're going to get started on these exercises. Um, do you feel comfortable in your shoes? >> I guess so. >> Okay. You have the option if you'd like to take them off or not. It's up to you. If you if you This whole thing is not >> whatever you're comfortable with. >> I'm just talking about your shoes here. Okay. But if you're okay with leaving your shoes on, then we'll get started. Okay. All right. So, do me a favor. See that line? Put your left foot on it. Next up is the walk and turn test. Will she redeem herself this time? Let's take a look. >> Left foot at the beginning. Put your left foot on the line at the beginning of the line. There you go. All right. Now, you're going to put your right in front touching heel to toe. All right. Now, you're going to stay in this position until I tell you to do so. Okay. >> Okay. >> So, watch me. I'm going to demonstrate how to do this. So standing there, you're going to start with your left foot on the line, right foot in front touching heel to toe. You're going to take nine heel totoe steps along the line. And when you're taking your nine steps, you're going to count them out loud. >> Okay. Maybe I should do shoes off. >> Okay. We'll start we'll we'll start the over. So left foot on the line. >> Uhhuh. >> Right foot in front touching heel to toe. >> Do you understand that? >> All right. This is the starting position. >> We're going to stay right there until I finish giving the instructions. You're going to take nine heel totoe steps along the line, touching heel to toe with every step. And you're going to count every step out loud. >> Okay. >> If at any time you fall off the line, just come back on and pick up right where you left off. Okay. >> Okay. >> When you get to the very end or excuse me, so you're going to take nine hill toe steps. It's going to look like this. One, two, three, so on till nine. When you get to the very end, you're going to leave your front foot on that line and you're going to take a series of small steps. Okay? Turn around and you're going to put your foot >> Okay. Yeah, this is fine. I'm just trying to understand what I'm supposed to do >> cuz standing here like this is like not easy. >> Well, that's a part of the instructions. Okay. >> No, I understand that. >> Okay. >> But I'm trying to understand what you're giving me several instructions. >> That's the purpose of the exercise. >> Yeah. So when you take that small steps, turn around and put your front foot back on the line. That's going to be step number one. And you're going to take nine heel totoe steps back down the line. >> Okay. >> All right. Do you have any questions? >> No. >> Do you understand the instructions? Wait till I tell you to start. >> But before it even begins, her attitude speaks volumes. Can she follow simple directions or is she stepping right into trouble? >> Okay, so no questions. And you understand the instructions. >> Unless I do something wrong, please let me know. I You have to walk nine steps, turn around, walk nine steps back. >> Correct. >> Yes. And you also have to count out loud. >> All right. >> Wait till I tell you to start. Go back. >> Okay. >> All right. Get in that starting position. Left foot on the line. Right foot in front touching heel to toe. >> All right. You may begin. >> One. 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 and now I turn. Right. Is that correct? >> Just keep going for what you think the instructions are. >> It was nine and then nine. So then it's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, >> okay, so the next exercise is going to involve your feet, too. Are you still comfortable without your shoes on? >> I It depends on what the exercise is. >> So do me a favor. Stand together with your feet on the line, hands down by your side. All right. And put your feet together. So the next exercise is going to be the one leg stand. So what you're going to do when I tell you to begin, you're going to raise a foot of your choice. So right or left approximately 6 in off the ground. And you're going to hold it until I tell you to stop. And while you're doing it, you're going to count out loud 1 2 100 3 100 4 100 and so on. Okay? And see how my foot is up and it's flat. >> Mhm. So just what it's going to look like. Okay. >> Okay. >> So pointed straight forward. >> Give me just a second to get the >> Then comes the final challenge, the one leg stand. >> And if you drop your foot at any time, you pick it back back pick it back up off the ground and continue where you left off. >> Okay. >> Do you understand? >> I do understand. >> Okay. And begin. 1 100 1 2 100 3 100 4 100 5 100 6 100 7 100 8 100 9 100 10 100 11 100 I'm sorry I told Sheriff that I just had a seizure on Friday, so I'm a little bit off balance. Anyways, >> do you want to try it again? >> I will try it again. >> Okay, let me restart my clock. Do you need the instructions one more time? >> No. >> Okay. and may begin. >> 1 2 100 3 100 1 2 100 3 100 4 100 5 100 Yeah, I'm counting. >> Okay. >> 1 1,00 2 100 1 100 1 2 100 3 100 4 100 5 1 >> All right, you can stop, Miss Lauren. Okay, you can go and put your shoes back on. >> Okay, I'm sorry. Despite cooperating, she ultimately ends up in handcuffs. >> Really happy for driving under the infant. Okay. >> What do I do? >> Well, we're going to get to that next step in just a second. Let me focus on this. >> I didn't do anything. I didn't make you get in this car and drive. >> Am I going to be put in like >> jail? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Why? >> Give me just a second. I'll get the AC running for you. >> All right, Miss Lauren. So, >> will you be willing to take a breath sample to determine the lo level level of alcohol in your breath? >> I will not do that. >> Okay. I am now requesting that you submit to a lawful test of your breath for the purpose of determining its alcohol content. If you refuse to take the test, I have requested of you your driving privilege will be suspended for a period of one year for your first refusal or 18 months if your driving privilege has previously been suspended or if you have previously been fined. That is fine. >> For let me finish. For refusing to submit to a lawful test of your breath, urine or blood. Additionally, if you refuse to take the test I have requested of you and if your driving privilege has previously been suspended or if you have been previously fined for refusal to submit to a lawful test of your breath, blood or urine, you will be committing a misdemeanor in addition to other penalties which can be opposed by law. Refusal to submit to the test I have requested is admissible into evidence in any criminal proceeding. I haven't done anything for 11 years. >> Okay. >> So, this was something that happened 11 years ago. So, and I did everything I was supposed to do. >> Officers inform her she'll be held for at least 8 hours. And the weight of it all hits. She begins to spiral, questioning if this arrest just ruined her life and career. >> So, do you have a previous DUI? >> Yes. And and I went to jail for eight weekends to get it off of my record. >> Okay. But just understand that this is then or this is that's then and this is now. >> I understand. >> And if you refuse to take the breath test right now, >> then suspend my license, but please take this off of me. >> Your handcuffs are not coming off you. >> Take a ride to jail. >> Okay. >> Okay. You're going to drop a DUI. You understand that? >> You You'll be there for 8 hours. >> At minimum 8 hours. >> At minimum 8 hours. Okay. >> And your car >> That's not right. >> And your car is going to be impounded. >> That's not right. >> Okay. Well, that's how it goes. Can I call >> You can call somebody whenever you get to the jail. >> Can I don't have the phone number I don't have. >> Your phone will go with you to the jail in your wallet. Okay. >> All right, Miss Lauren. I'm going to read you something else. It's uh your Miranda warning. Okay. So, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him or her present with you while you've been questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you. You can decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer any questions or make any statements. Do you understand each of these rights as I've explained them to you? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Having these rights in mind, will you speak to me now? >> I'm literally about to die in this car. It's so hot. >> I have the AC on full blast. >> Not here. Not in this part of the >> I have the I have the prisoner compartment on full blast. I'll here. Let me check it again. >> Do you see my me sweating? Well, you were sweating before that because it's Florida and it's like 80° outside. >> Yep. It's on and on the coolest setting on the highest AC. >> I'm just letting you know it's on. It says on. >> Now it is. It was. >> Oh, was there something something must have been blocking it? Okay. Have you said to mind? Will you speak to me now? >> What do you want me to say? I'm going to ask you like a list of questions. >> A car full of vodka and a declined breath test. The officers had all they needed for a DUI charge. And just like that, a bad day turned into a permanent record. Let us know in the comments. Have you ever seen a workplace meltdown like
