These shoplifters attempt to act clueless is one of the most ridiculous things you'll see today. Here are five cases when dumb shoplifters try to play innocent people, but it backfires. Number five, Cuisinart griddle theft stopped in its tracks on the bus. Police receive a call about a theft at a Marshall store. By the time officers arrive, the suspect has already left the store and boarded a local bus. Acting quickly, they track down the bus and stop it before it's too late. Central 321, looks like he got on the bus. I'll be stopping at 95 and Knox. Over. 6496 6496 Hi there. Hello. Hi my friend. You know why I stopped You know why I'm talking to you? Of course I Okay. Marshalls? Yes, sir. Okay. Come on, talk to me, okay? Let's try to keep this out of as much trouble as we can, all right? Bring out your stuff. Bring out all Marshall stuff. I'm on that bus at 95 and All right, so go ahead and put your stuff down. So, here's the deal. Yes, sir. I I They're They're pretty heated over there. They're pretty heated. I want to help you out as best as I can, but I need you to be honest with me. Yes, sir. So, they're telling me this is like your umpteenth number time doing this. The officer finds the suspect, Rudolph Hampton, and begins questioning him. He aims to handle the situation calmly and encourages honesty to keep things straightforward. All right. What Let's start with honesty. How much did you take? Cuz I want to be able to say yes, he was honest. This is what he took versus them saying you took it 10 more times stuff. I took two of Just the the Cuisinart? The two Cuisinarts? That's it? Yes, sir. All this stuff is yours? Yes, sir. Okay. Uh what do you take the Cuisinarts for, man? Like a gift or something? man. I'm going to be honest with you. Okay. Do you have anything on you that I should be aware of? Okay, do you have an ID on you? Can I get the ID, please? Yeah, I'm 10-4. I'm at 95th and Kentsen and we'll be standing by for a show up if they want to pursue charges. Uh he has two Cuisinarts he's uh saying you took. Yeah, I'm I'm just asking you if you could possibly get my phone. Yeah, they seem pretty They seem pretty heated. And miss, you can go. You can go. Okay. He ain't wearing uh gray and gray with a black hoodie. Yeah, 10-4. He already admitted it to me. He says he took the two Cuisinart griddles. And 21, I'm going to file for you. Go ahead. All right. So, Mr. Hampton, really what it is going to come down to is they're saying that you took a whole bunch of stuff in the past. Is any of that true? Okay. Yeah, 10-4. If you could just run a queue to both my boxes and 321's. All right. So, what's going to happen is the security guard's coming over. He has to He has to look at you and identify and say yes, you are the gentleman who did this. I've already said I already said you're honest. You're being honest with me completely. I've made that clear to the other officer. Um they're either going to say, "Hey, listen. We want our crap back. We want him to get a ticket." or they're going to say, "Hey, we want our crap back." The stolen items are in his possession and he cooperates by doing what the officer asks. Further investigation reveals that Hampton has faced similar accusations in the past. So, we we as the police really have to do whatever they want, but I'm going to certainly tell them you were honest with me, okay? How many times you do I I ran your criminal history, it's called. How many times you've been arrested for this? This is this the once? But, them telling me that you've done this a whole bunch of times, they're making it up? Honestly, uh I had an issue with the security guard. He stopped me. He started screaming Okay. told him this wasn't his own stuff. He said, "Go ahead and So, in the past it was a misunderstanding or something? Man, I asked you how many times they My My dispatcher just told me you've been arrested for larceny before, stealing. No, sir. Not for They They just told me. Not larceny. Yeah, that's what they just told me, man. Larceny, stealing. Stealing, man. Not larceny. Okay. I wouldn't Like I said, I'm not sitting here trying to stand here and tell you your business. It's your business. That's just what it attached to your criminal history, man. We're just going to hang out. I know it sucks to be kind of like in the middle of the middle of open. People staring at you. Do they want 95? The Marshall security team arrives to confirm his identity and then the moment of truth. Will they let him walk free or is he about to face jail time? Let's find out. All right, go ahead and put your bag down for me, man. So, right now they do want you placed in the custody for this. You got to take a ride with me. Well, because you've been so cool with me, I'm going to try and continue it. Be as cool as I can with you, okay? I'm going to double lock these cuffs, which means they're not going to get tighter on you. Now, here's the biggest thing, man. When I take you back to booking, I don't want you to get jammed up for a little bit of weed on you or something silly, a pocket knife, anything like that on you right now? Okay. I'm going to search you and then my partner's going to search you when we get in my car, okay? Go and separate your feet for me, please. Again, I only care about pocket knives, bazookas. Oh, so they've already made the decision. He wants to tell the security guard how sorry he is. Yeah, I'll tell this officer right This is this a brace or something? An ankle brace? Okay. You okay? You have an injury? Okay. You can take it, man. Yeah, of course. Take it in mind it's right here. Yeah. All right, just watch your step, man, on this curb. Go ahead, step over. We're going to that black car. All right, just so you know, right, All right, so these things are double locked. They're not going to get tighter on you, okay? Right back. Thank you. Thank you. When is the last time you've been arrested, Mr. Hampton? Okay. Moments later, Hampton is taken into custody without resistance. So, the other officer that you just met, he is the what we call the arresting officer. I'm just transporting you. So, I I I would say let's be a let's do blank slate with him. When he asks you about stuff with your history, just be honest with him. Um, your criminal history is saying you've done this before. Again, I'm not trying to insult you cuz it's your life, you know. You were the one there, not me. That's just what our computer system is saying. Go ahead. So, those other two smaller bags you had, or maybe it was just one bag, that's your property, you're saying, right? Is that correct, Mr. Hampton? Okay, let me make sure cuz I want our uh want to make sure officer brings that back. I'm sorry? I I can't hear you. Can you speak a little bit? Yeah, I'm sorry. Okay. Give me 1 second, man. Uh uh 21 from 31. All right. Uh he's just saying the stuff in the two smaller bags is personal property. Can you just confirm that? He's concerned to make sure he gets it back. All right, it's totally I'm not sure if you can hear me. I know it's kind of it it blocks a lot of my what I can hear. I just told the other officer to make sure that stuff is your property it gets back to you. Going to the Oak Lawn police station. So, the officer has to write up some paperwork cuz you are under arrest for retail theft and he's going to give you a trespass warning, which means if you go back there you'll be arrested for trespass. And I'm sure you have no desire to go back there. The officers calmly explain the next steps in the process, giving him a glimpse of what lies ahead. So, as of I I No, right now this is just something where you get released tonight. You're going to have a court date that's very important you go to. The only thing that would change that is if you have some kind of warrants or something, but no one has said anything about that to me. So, you're going to probably be out in about an hour. Just really important you don't go back to Marshalls and you show up to your court date. Central 331, I am 23 to booking. My uh starting mileage or time was in the notes. The situation wraps up as officers transport Hampton to the police station. They log the arrest, return any personal belongings, and finalize the paperwork. All right, Mr. Hampton, go ahead and step out. Let me know if you need any help. No shame in it. I can walk. When the officer says to, we're going to go through this door. Make sure he's ready for you. Go ahead and just follow this gentleman. I'll be right in there. Hello. Uh no, I don't unless you want If you want me to take it, I have no issue. Oh, I don't think I did. I think they did it. Yeah, yeah, he's being fine. He says those two smaller bags are his. I don't know if that's true, but that's what he's saying. Okay. All right, thanks. Hampton was ultimately charged with retail theft. Number four. Nordstrom arrest unravels woman's extensive shoplifting crimes. A woman's day of theft unravels when she's caught shoplifting at Nordstrom's after targeting multiple stores earlier. She enters Nordstrom carrying a backpack and two Whole Foods bags filled with stolen items from Walmart and Home Depot. Security notices her suspicious behavior and notifies the police. Oh, wow. Is that all the stuff? So, this is our stuff and then she also has stuff from Walmart um and then Home Depot. So, her story is that um she Is there like a private place for us to talk? I'm assuming she's in the back office. I've never been there. Yeah. Yeah. You've never been here? Not for I mean, I've been here shopping. I'm not sure. You don't have to speak in front of her. I just can't though. So, she's just saying she has a partner, a boyfriend that um told her that he paid for this stuff prior um and then he sent her pictures or told her what items they are and then she went to pick them out. So, she wants to also pay for it after um she leaves. So. So, she wants to pay for the items? Well, she wants to pay for it um but she's claiming that it was paid for prior, too. So, kind of like a layaway. So, she thought in her mind she's already like these items that she's getting are paid for. Correct. Yes, that her partner paid for them and then he just told her which items they are. And that is here and at Walmart and at Home Depot. So, the other stuff is that like in her car or something or like what? It's in the bag. I separated it from which ours versus the like a personal bag or something that She had um a backpack um kind of like a duffel bag and then two um two Whole Foods bags with um foil. Oh. Like the ones for um like cold items. Okay. I see. And so, all that's in the office or somewhere. Okay. What does this consist of? So, this is just ours. Yeah, so I just made a receipt for it. So, we kind of um can get a total. So, it wasn't like she came up and got bags or something. She brought in her own bags and so Correct. Yes. Okay. Do you know who this person is? Is he supposed to be here or She said she keeps saying that she has a ride at 2:00. She wanted us to release her. I said, "Unfortunately, I can't release you." And then she just kept saying that the Pace bus was picking her up. He gave her a call. I'm assuming you guys are looking to press charges on this. I believe that Orchard does uh press When officers enter the loss prevention room, they find the stolen goods from all three locations and begin questioning her. Hello. Hello. Just letting you know the room is being audio and video recorded. Okay. We got our recordings on as well. Awesome. So, is this some of the stuff that you separated? Yeah, so this is um I you said it was um Home Depot and Walmart? Yes. Okay. Okay. I'm sorry. Any receipts for that? No. Um it's Okay, sure. It's complicated. I already explained it to her and then I realized I can further explain because of the way it's done is less conspicuous of a tag on that's so this wasn't something that I wanted to do. Okay, can you explain that a little bit more? Like what do you mean you didn't want to do it? Okay. And what happened after that? They basically that brought us here. Yeah, I got the receipt right here. Do you need to look at it for now? Thank you so much. Uh I'm I'm not quite sure how to explain it anymore. I tried once with her, so I'm here at this point. Okay, well, we're we're different than that. We're the police. You're going to want to you're going to want to explain it to us since we're the police and we have to write a report on what you said. So, if you have anything that's pertinent to your situation, now would be the best time to do so. Yes, well, then I'll say that there are other parties involved. This is I think I mean it's supposed to be a supported system. I don't do this because I want to or have to at this point, but it's not an isolated activity and um you know, I guess certain stores tolerate it or know more about it. This one evidently not, so it became a problem. What do you mean by tolerate it? What is it? The woman admits to taking items from Walmart and Home Depot earlier in the day. She describes her actions as part of what she calls a supported system, suggesting that some stores tolerate theft. The the lifestyle. I mean, I go in and pick things. Especially here, it became more obvious like what what they want to chosen um the items. And uh for like groceries or um Home Depot especially, this was a task that like my family wanted done. Um so, you know, I I made the effort to come out here to get those attachments. Um and, you know, my understanding is that it's taken care of. So, I'm I'm surprised. Mhm. Some other stores seem to be more tolerant. There's a grocery store I go to, I pick up a few things occasionally. There have been no problems. People have looked the other way. Um so, and I think it's I think it's a personal thing within the stores. Um they they they're aware of the situation. Um so, I don't have trouble like this. Um if you could check and if if you could check um if there has been any higher-level kind of um information given that might have been missed, uh that would be appreciated. But When you say tolerant, do you mean like they tolerate shoplifting? They the the personnel kind of look the other way. Oh, so you know what you're doing then, right? Like you say you go in here and take the stuff. You shoplift. Some stores tolerate it and some don't. And obviously Yes. Because there. Right. Because Okay. because um Right. That was my mistake. Maybe it was supposed to be uh a known mistake or what a purposeful mistake. But this I'm not in this is not an isolated It's supposed to be a supported system. It's supposed to be a way things are done and um, you know, other people have to live under these conditions. She even says she's previously walked out of stores without paying and faced no consequences, reinforcing her belief that such behavior is acceptable in certain places. Has someone told you that this is something that is okay or Yes. Who told you that? Um, well, like right now, it's just it's a supported system. Um, you know, there are people that are aware of this and um make sure that at certain places it's allowed, basically. Mhm. So, I guess it was a knowing mistake that it'd be a problem here. Yeah. So, you knew you weren't sure if they would allow you to do it here? No, it was odd because there's there's communication and um they uh, you know, support certain decisions or guide decisions. I'm not doing it on my own. Um Where are these items from in here? Right there is from There's some items from Home Depot and some items from Target. Or or Walmart. That happened today? Did you go in there today? Yes, and it was tolerated? Yes. So, you stole it from Walmart and Home Depot and they tolerated it. And that's the store like when I walked out of Walmart, um, the cashier was like turned away and What What time did you go to Target uh, sorry. What time did you go to Home Depot at? Just prior. I got dropped off at around 11:30 today cuz I I don't have a car and I didn't want to bike today. So, um, I went um, by Pace bus. So, you went into Home Depot around 11:30. What time did you go to Walmart? Um Uh like an hour a half an hour afterwards. So, around noon or 12:30-ish. And these All these items in here are mixture of Home Depot and Walmart? Uh, yeah. The police separated her stolen items from personal belongings, noting the clear intent to take goods without payment. So, you had been you first had you had all these bags with you when you got off the bus, right? Correct. And then you brought them into first Home Depot, took some items from there without paying, left the store, no one stopped you or anything like that. And then you continued maybe walked over to Walmart, is that the case? Correct. Okay. From Walmart you brought in all the same stuff to Walmart. Um Did you try to check out or did you go directly to the exit after you're done grabbing things? Oh, um well, here I actually tried to check out and the line was too long. So, I I didn't steal the absurd. I told them All right, you like it's not like I don't have the means to do it. This is just the way it's coached and if they could take a photo, I would buy the shoes. I could buy the shoes now if you want. guys stop her? Like like I went um made sure that she put everything in her bag and then I made sure that she left the store. So, after the store? Yeah, so after the door. Okay. And then she passed she passed the In the vestibule. In the vestibule or after the So, she walked past the last one, so. She passed it all. Are these from uh Home Depot? Those are, yes. Um yeah. And is there is this the only stuff you stole from Home Depot? That's the only things that were there, four things, yes. So, four things. One, two, three, four inches we got kind of. The rest of this is from Walmart? Correct. Did you have like a list of stuff that you needed to get or was this all just spontaneous stuff that you were getting today? There was some communication um and uh uh I actually came for this cat and uh um Yeah. the set of uh those. So, I came mostly for those. She acknowledges that the process was deliberate from selecting the items to placing them in her bags, yet continues to argue that it was not entirely her decision. And who told you to get those items? This is supposed to be a general system. So, no one. So, you you decided that you needed these items. It was not an isolated decision. I don't know. Well, earlier you told me that it was your partner that told you to come in. Yes, uh but yeah. But the thing is is it's supposed to be a general a a supported system, unfortunately, but you know, I'm living in it. I don't want it to uh get in trouble or whatever and people seem to have the means to make this accessible. Um I'm very surprised here, but perhaps the error is the the store itself. Um I you know, this has been going on for a bit. We'll just Um And you fill out a form for this. Mhm. I'll go to Home Depot. I'll go to Home Depot, get a receipt for this and I'll pull a separate number. Mhm. I'll take this report and then I'll write her an NTA for this. Yeah, cuz that's going to be a while. And then I'll go to Walmart, figure out the value, pull a separate number for that, and we'll figure it out in jail. Mhm. Okay. Unfortunately, that's Yeah. That's kind of how it's going to happen. After all of this, yeah. But can I Is it possible just to to leave today with a warning and then if you take a photo of the shoes, I literally I can either pay in in um you you something off my phone. Seriously, like it's not that I don't Mhm. have the means. I don't like explaining it because it's very complicated. Uh but if you if you took a photo or if you were a I was allowed to pay for that I just I was able to two things from Home Depot. Probably at this point nothing will be done. were allowed to pay. When you walked in, you were allowed to Her repeated claims about paying for the items and her confusion about store policies do little to mitigate the situation. They always allow you to pay for items. That's not the point. Um it's the it's the situation. I This it seems to be a store by store Listen, I will I can pay for these I can walk with you, return the things, and pay for the ones that I want to keep. The problem is not the means. You can pay staff. I still have to read you the terms and conditions. Okay, let's do that right now. If you get me to read something like a warning or something, let's do that. Do you need anything else from us? Well, I just need you guys as a reporting party. Do you want Do you have a first and last name for me? Yeah, you guys have like your first and last names and your Yeah, do you have business cards? Okay, just give me 1 second. I'm going to read this to you, and I'm going to need your signature. So, you are banned from Nordstrom for 2 years. You're not allowed to come to Nordstrom. That means if you go to Nordstrom Rack or Nordstrom by chance, Nordstrom Rack, Nordstrom Rack, Nordstrom Rack, Nordstrom Rack, Nordstrom Rack, anything Nordstrom, you're not allowed to come. May I purchase the shoes? Seriously, this is this is the the way it's changed. No, you could not purchase anything. And I can pay for it? Um I'm assuming all of these were stuff that were in her bags originally. Were they Were these stuff in like the backpack or I saw her put it in here and there. So, I watched her So, we already explained to the police the preservation Thank you. Um additionally, we're going to let Stop & Shop know that we have the right to file civil uh lawsuit against you for over damages. Yeah. Um We'll just need to grab her stuff, obviously, I think. This is her phone. That can stay. Bring that. I'll take these two. Yeah. So, do you want me to put it in this bag? Yeah. I got her Home Depot stuff. Do you think I can take this? Yeah. Can I get the name of the main officer? Uh Officer Boyan. The officers remain professional as they explain the charges she faces. Okay, so you keep it here. So, I have the opportunity to explain this to you guys. I've been requested to do things. However, you know, this is the first time it's happened in the neighborhood. Um so, if I could please just I gave her the warning. I'm already banned from Did you give her anything? Do you want to help me take her out and then maybe put her back? Or at least maybe just bring this stuff with her and me first. What's the badge number of the officer? 10269 But the pouches are specifically Okay, stand up. Stand up for us. You are under arrest for retail theft, okay? You can put your hands With evidence from Nordstrom, Walmart, and Home Depot, she's arrested on three counts of retail theft. Number three. Shoplifter's $4,000 product grab turns into wild police chase. Two Florida women try their luck shoplifting over $4,000 in Prada purses and sandals before vanishing without a trace. Hours later, their spree ends when an Old Navy manager catches them stuffing bags with stolen goods and leaving with a bold gesture. By now, police have a clear description of the suspects. It turns out the pair has been hitting multiple stores, including Forever 21, during their spree. Sure, they got hits. Khaki shorts, khaki pants. A white white t-shirt. That was a white t-shirt. What? Opening is like walking out the exit right there. Thinking they might have. Probably did. So, say did they know? Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Yep. It's all What is this store? HEY, STOP. In the fitting room. In the fitting room? Yeah. Okay. Uh Just give us give us a minute and then we'll Once we get more officers over here, they're going to come in and try to see what else they have there. I didn't know. That was the other guy that just walked out. That decent [ __ ] HEY. HEY. STOP TALKING. STOP Stop acting like we don't know what we're talking about. The women adamantly claimed their innocence, but the evidence tells a different story. Eyewitness accounts and security footage leave little room for doubt. That was the other guy that just walked out of there just left because something was going on. I'm in there shopping. Why would I be in there that long? Y'all know that WAS THAT BLACK GIRL. YOU WATCHED THE BLACK GIRL WALK RIGHT OUT THE DOOR. NO, CUZ SHE WATCHED the lady walk right out the door and then accuse us. For what? You ran cuz the police held top police and kept going while you looked back at me. You got a warrant? I don't know if I do or How about you do? I bet I don't.
