what happens when employees think they're sneaky but the cameras catch everything let's find out here are five cases when dumb employees realized they got caught stealing on camera number five how a first job led to a lifechanging felony charge Walmart security Flags an employee suspected of committing refund fraud the investigation reveals she's been running a scheme where she manipulates returns to load over $33,000 onto gift cards which she keeps for herself officers are called to handle the situation and store managers provide details about the fraud hey hey she's in the back okay what's going on uh uh refund fraud she's been uh doing fraudulent returns and loading them to shop cards for herself for how long um I have 30 days for is someone doing an interview with her back there now they are okay they should be about your store interviews yeah okay oh you know a lot about Walmart I've never SE before I'm aing I work at 64 is M Walmart oh okay all right [Music] write a statement she about to WR her statement we just got her to admit the total that she estimates she estimates over 2,000 uh since July she's been doing these transactions um giving false returns uh she'll basically just hand out merchandise and keep the gift card first now your statement that's only for you and Walmart that's not for us yeah okay that's us cuz we I have three read Miranda right right right right yeah we just keep that statement on her file that's just yeah that's just for your personal story yes okay all right uh give me just about 30 more seconds so I can get her started writing so are these three different things oh it's all the same type all we oh on multiple different things different days I just put them on each separate days okay yeah so yeah she'll the customer will come in and be like I'm going to return a battery okay uh unknown customer unknown unnown customer now there's two in here that is an accomplice okay but then the unknown customer and they'll have a battery and they'll have an old battery okay she'll scan the new battery upload it to a shop card a gift card and then she keeps it and then she just gives the customer the battery customer just essentially the store gives away products for free and the employee Pockets the refund money so she's giving the merchandise away and she's uploading a card to herself so they're not they're not even paying for it no she's got us like minimum 2,000 we're going to have more oh wow all right she ready hi huh n just keep out give me the like call you what you Kayla no oh all right listen to me I'm going to read you something okay okay read your Miranda right now you being detained all right you have the right for me silent anything you can say will be used against you in the court of law customer come in and how how how would you do it how would you do the transaction B like say that they come up and they have like a battery or something uh like that like a car battery yeah you do like the exchange you do exchange yeah and then when you like you swipe the card you swipe a gift card mhm are they paying for for the battery no good um they're for exchange oh that's for exchange so they're bringing the old battery in and getting the new battery basically yeah so they're not paying for the new battery you don't you don't do that they just exchange only oh exchange only so they're coming in with a bad battery to exchange it for a new battery is the battery under warranty can I can I just ask you something either way right now you're going to take me look okay so can we just can we just go and okay it's fine turn around take that thing off your is please we're going to proceed with trespass as well do not come back to the system ever again or any heart system no aside from lands in trouble for a $1,300 return fraud scam involving a PS5 and airpods loss prevention uncovers the scheme after spotting irregular transactions and reviewing surveillance footage here's what right after being fired and banned from Best Buy he's charged with felony Grand Theft sentenced to a year of probation ordered to complete 100 hours of community service and required to take an anti- theft course number three Target manager caught red-handed taking $2,000 from registers a Target employee gets promoted to manager and wastes no time stealing $2,000 from the registers loss prevention notices cash discrepancies and checks the footage catching her bundling bills with rubber bands and stashing them aside the police are called to the scene to investigate further have you already interviewed her about it yes she is denying the entire thing and her drawers were short every day then assum yeah the shortage was there okay how were you aware made aware of this so I made aware of this every time a team member opens the registra and it Flags in a system it's not for a sale um and as well as I review the closing cash that's have been closing I review all of our closing cash operations regularly um while I was reviewing we were missing a cash bag an entire bag um and we were trying to find out where it went so I'm like all right I'm just going to start reviewing video on the and on the 20th I found that both bags were put there but then I watch thisam number go over to another register that register okay and can see the cash I'll show you that in initi short video but this is the one I clicked on first there's our team number there and I have a better picture with the p shot that coincide you're good you're good they coincide TimeWise but this this is a nice clear Zoom B the Top Shot okay can you pause it for a second um so we're just review video real quick it's it's can you just make sure she doesn't try to walk out all right it's probably going to be a 15 C so so we're looking at ones FES 10 20s 50s and hundreds or in the last right room so what she does is she takes all the money out of the register um and she has it all out she fans it all out and then you can see the left side which would be the larger bills are cuz she's setting it up that way she'll take a multiple what looks like on the low end to be three okay so we three now is this common for a cashier to sit here and pull all the money out at the cash register and count it and then typically they should just take it all out bang bang bang bang bang and put it in one of those bags so they're not usually counting it at the reg we have a cash office and a machine that counts it okay security footage provides a clear view of actions including the improper counting and bundling of bills there rolls it up puts a rubber band on it sets it on top puts that my device little phone thing on top of it puts the remainder of the money in the bag those are coupons or manufactur coupons those get processed as well okay she then rebanks the register with the money that's supposed to go in there all the way to the left place the bag on top that's standard places that bag into the cart and then she comes back and retrieves both her phone and the money that's over to that same register it's just a different camera angle so you can see that it's positive identification of her doing it are these 360 cams is that how you're able to move it or I can move only certain cameras they are 360 um I was live here watching this from my office okay that's how I was able to zoom in and get that real clean clean clear shot but this is a similar video you can kind of see or do it here but top one's the best on it's just another angle is this common for her to go from register to register to take the money out and put it in the bag and bring it to you guys or is it we have a team member that typically does it um whether it's it's her or another team member it's typical practice they go register register take the money out put in the bags put it in this cart it locks into the cart and this is what she was assigned to do that at that at that point I was actually looking for a missing bag one of these PR bags was going to say something like we're doing days worth the video trying to find a bag still haven't found it um and then I saw her do this on one of the the camera shots I was looking at I'll show you which one that is that's on the 20th at 1030 10:24 p.m. I was just curious yeah no it's it's really cool that it logs that way so like even if someone was doing this on like a regular transaction like cash on we could go to see it then too do you think she had something to do with that bag I can't prove it um but okay it went missing and that's what Trigg the whole on this within the last three years here correct um I noticed on camera that you were uh responsible for going from register to register and taking the money out of the drawer is that a common practice years okay and what is included in that practice what what do you do can you explain to me so I am taking the money from the day out and putting new money for the next day okay and when you take the money out do you count it or anything like that so you just so how would you take it out of the drawers take it out put in the red or green bag and then put the next bag into the okay so you basically just go from each money slot pull it out place it in a bag don't look at it or anything right would there be any reason why you would roll up money okay so you wouldn't roll it in to any kind of like money roll and then put a rubber band over despite the overwhelming evidence she continues to deny involvement attempting to explain her behavior as routine cash handling procedures so when I was watching the video footage it's pretty clear that it was that it's what you were doing is rolling it into a money roll placing a rubber band over it and then placing it on top of the desk why would you be doing that I didn't do that you didn't do that okay so why would the video footage show you doing that you see where I'm at here right I'm watching a video footage that's unedited from the Department ticket theft ends an arrest just 2 weeks in a 7-Eleven employee is caught stealing over $5,000 in lottery tickets after loss prevention Flags discrepancies during her shifts the footage clearly shows the employee scratching off lottery tickets scanning the barcodes and pocketing any winnings police are called to investigate and the employee is questioned on sight hello hello how you doing good how register I never got over so the ticket the ticket value okay on the 22nd is over $1,200 worth of tickets on the 23rd there's over $1,700 worth of tickets and then yesterday there's over $2,300 worth of tickets I never I never got over that much money for no I'm talking about tickets so so a ticket for example $50 per ticket so that adds up that adds up so I'm not talking about cash so so that you said I stole over $200 over tickets that's what I so there's $538 worth the tickets missing and they're all coming they're all coming they all like I sto all of them so what I'm so what I'm saying is based on numbers provided during your shift second shift between two and 10 these are the numbers missing and it's all me basic so from what we're being told is you're the you've been the only one believing no one will notice over 6 months her minor thefts accumulate to an astonishing $20,000 here's what happens when police arrive to handle the situation how you doing are you okay what's going
