I didn't arrest her, but you know, um, from what she said and from what he said, somewhere during the fight, he got the bloody lip and so that's why she got arrested. You said you're on medications. >> Have you had anything to drink? >> No. >> Nothing today at all. >> Well, I just wonder. I thought I smelled alcohol when I was up there speaking to you. >> No. Are you familiar with the English alphabet? >> Yes. You think if I ask you to recite a portion of it, you might be able to do that for me? >> Yeah. >> I want you to start with the letter E like in Edward and I want you to go to letter T like in Tom. I smell alcohol coming from your breath and you're you're not answering me. You're not doing the test that I asked you to perform. Now I'm concerned. You're driving around with a a young man in the car, presumably your son, with alcohol in your breath. And you just knocked over a sign and kept on going. You left the scene of an accident. I don't know why you're acting so surprised. So, how much did you drink today? A lot. >> No. No. >> No. Well, you drank enough that you hit a sign and kept on driving. Okay. >> So, if you're not going to help me, you know, and perform the tests, I'll just take you into custody and we can go down and have you blow in the box. >> Okay. >> All right. Do you want to do the tests? >> Yeah. >> Yes, you do want to do the tests. Okay. 1845 from 41. >> Can you count backwards for me? 87 to 68. >> Go ahead. >> 87. I'm sorry. You just need a second. Everything all right in your life? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. And there's nothing that says you can't have a drink. I have a drink during the day sometimes, but I'm concerned because you had an accident and then left. >> I didn't. >> Yeah. I'll I'll show you the damage later if you want to see it. Meanwhile, the officer touches base with a bystander who witnessed the incident. >> I'm concerned. I said I'm I want to make sure that that you're Well, I don't think you're okay to drive. >> Thank you. >> I'll be honest with you. >> So, I'm going to have another unit come. All right. We'll have your car pulled over here in case anybody else has to come and go and then we'll run you through the tests. >> All right. >> Can I for you on Brookfield way or >> just get my husband? I'm at the intersection of Mirfield and Whispering Ivy >> in the culde-sac. >> Thank you. >> Take care, sir. You're very disoriented. I'm a little >> I know. >> Taking it back. Yeah. >> Well, I understand, but I'm just trying to to do my job. 48 41. >> I'm just going to brief my partner on what's going on. Then we'll figure out what we can do with your son if you don't want him to be here for this. Okay. Just wait right there, please. >> We received a call for a street sign that was knocked down. I'm still trying to determine who the caller was. >> Okay. But these guys were working here. So they heard it, heard the bank, just kept on going. The car had a blue Mercedes. Few minutes later, she came back up. I checked the front of her car. She definitely hit that street sign right there. That way. >> Okay. >> Right. She had alcohol in her breath. She's very disoriented. >> Okay. >> Can't answer a simple question to do simple tests. >> Okay. >> She admitted that she was drinking. >> What was she drinking? >> I asked was hard s wine. How much did you drink? >> She hit it this way. >> I don't know, but I just got here. I just pulled up on scene. We'll have to figure that out. So, I don't really know what's going on with this right now. Okay. >> This would have done much more damage to that. >> I don't really know what what's going on right now, bud. I'm sorry. I haven't uh >> I haven't seen what's going on yet. I haven't even seen the damage yet. I'm seeing it right now, I think. >> All right. Mom, it's a cobblestone stone. >> Yeah. Straight up. >> Do you remember? Do you remember hitting it, ma'am? >> Do I >> Do you remember hitting it or no? >> No, I did not hit it. >> Okay. If she was leaving, probably would have been a left tire, possibly hit the curb. Okay, looks like it was struck right here on this. >> They then document the scene, taking measurements and matching the car to the impact site. >> Damage. It was struck heading this way. So, probably would have been a a front right tire mark. And here's a mark right here where it hit the manhole, hit the uh metal retaining basin. Okay. So, damage, possible damage to the front right tire rim. No other evidence. Looks like we have some rub marks here on the tire. Also right here, some high rub marks, which is unusual. Okay, so it was struck in this direction. This was impacted first. You can see tire marks smudged here and it's slightly kicked back the whole basin unit. And if we were to take a measurement from a front tire on that car to the impact zone, it's it's perfect. >> And at the same man, this is what we do for a living, okay? Um, and it's nothing personal against you. We are He's a former detective. I'm a former detective. And we we're pretty good at our jobs. So, let me >> show you the damage. And there's also, so what you're going to have here with this tire impacting that, you're going to have some type of side rub or damage to the rim possibly. >> You got lucky you didn't damage your rim, >> but you have rub marks here on the side of the tire which are indicative of hitting that that basin >> right here. >> Here's the damage where you hit it. >> Right down your whole front of your car here, here, and on the plate >> straight down. There's the there's the dent from when you hit the top of the top of >> At the end of the day, it's just it's a good thing you didn't get injured or nobody else got injured, but we would just like to know what happened. You know, um were you distracted? Did something jump out in front of you? We're just looking to see what what happened. Were you did you take your eyes off the road for a second? >> Inspecting the vehicle, officers note clear signs of a crash, tire marks, a bent license plate, and front end damage. >> I mean, we're just looking for an explanation as to why. What caused you to swing a little too wide and hit it? So, >> hold on to that camera, please. >> Is there anything you can tell us on the reason why you hit it? >> I'm sorry I was distracted. I don't know. >> All right. Well, listen, it's it's good. I mean, the first step here is just to admit it. It's It's okay. Um, you know, people heard it. We responded out here and all of a sudden you come up here with the the vehicle that hit it. So, it it is what it is. It is what it is. So, I'm just glad you admitted it. Was your son in the car when you hit it or were you >> No. >> No. Okay. And this just happened just a few minutes ago. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. >> All right. >> You want to hit I'm going to do some additional test? >> Yeah, no problem. >> Hi there. >> Okay. >> Let's explain to you what happened, sir. >> Okay. >> So, we got called here for this street sign being knocked down. Okay. >> I believe uh I don't know who called it in. >> Somebody called in. and they said they just um heard a bang and they noticed that somebody hit this and left the scene. So, we responded out here and my partner was here looking at the area and when your wife pulled up and she's got um discre, you know, she just she has the damage marks here from hitting the post and she also hit that metal basin. So, she basically went off the road like this and and knocked it over. So, with the metal basin, there's tire marks that it's pushed in a little bit. So, there's going to be rim damage or tire slide damage. And that's what we have right here. We've got rub marks here. We've got rub marks here and here from hitting it. Um, and so once we confront her with all these facts, if you line up the tire and that beam, the measurement is absolutely perfect. So, basically, we got her to admit that she's hit it and she said she was distracted. Um, and she uh, you know, she took her eyes off the road for a second. She got distracted and she hit it and she's >> The officers explain everything to her husband who's visibly stunned by the situation >> and I said it's okay. So, you know, we're going to deal with that. But in the meantime, um she's been drinking alcohol. I don't know what she's been drinking. I got here secondary. My partner is the one that was dealing with her and I'm sorry in initially and um that's what we're doing right now. We're just putting her through some field sobriety tests to make sure to determine if she's technically intoxicated right now or not. So, that's what my partner's doing right now. That's pretty much all we have right now. So, do you know what she's been drinking? >> I just got home a few minutes ago. >> Okay. All right. >> She likes to drink wine. She would never >> I mean, as long as we've been married would ever do that and then go get my son from school. All right. Is there is everything go okay at home recently? Is there is >> no issues. >> Is there anything going on like with her as far as like needing to drink during the day or No. >> Okay. All right. >> I know she's had a stressful week traveling, but other than that, nothing. >> All right. >> These are all fair questions, right? I'm not I'm not I'm not pushing the limits, right? We're just we're just here doing our job, man. You know, making sure everybody's okay. I mean, I was literally in the house just >> I don't know why she just didn't let me go get them if there was >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Well, it's the thing about, you know, living close to home with everything around here. It's all so close, you know. >> Everyone gets very comfortable within their one square mile, you know. >> What What school is it? The high school. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> On the line. >> Can I ask you a favor, though? >> What's that? >> Can we not do this here in front of the >> I'm sorry, sir. This is my my partner is in charge here. >> Oh, I have to tell you as well. I'm wearing a body camera that's recording us, just so you know. Just make you aware of that. >> Sorry, I forgot to tell you that earlier. >> This will take all of five minutes. >> And uh I know it's embarrassing. It's embarrassing. >> But at this point, it's just between those two. You know, he's the one that basically stopped her. This is his investigation at this point. >> Meanwhile, the mom continues with the sobriety test. >> Have you stand right here? >> Okay. When I ask you to, you're going to put your feet together and your hands at your side. Okay? When I ask you to, you're going to lift whatever leg you feel more comfortable with 6 inches off the ground. I'll demonstrate. Okay? With your feet together, your hands at your side, you're going to hold it off the ground 6 in. You're going to look down at your foot, and I want you to count out 1,00 200 300 400 and continue, excuse me, until I tell you to stop. Do you understand that? >> Okay. Go ahead and put your feet together. >> Keep your hands at your side. Remember to look down. Put your feet together, dear. Together, touching. There you go. I want you to stay in that position until I tell you to begin. Remember, when you hold whatever foot you feel more comfortable with off the ground, I want you to hold it there and look down at it while you're doing it. Okay. >> Any questions? >> All right. Go ahead. >> Go. >> Go. 100,000 3 100 6 100 >> All right, continue. Start at 1100,00 >> All right. Okay. All right. Take your take. Take your time. Next test I'm going to have you do is called the walk and turn. All right. You're going to start in the same position. When I ask you to, you're going to put your right foot in front of your left, heel to toe, and you're going to stay in that position until I tell you to begin the test. When I ask you to begin the test, you're going to walk nine steps in this direction, heel to toe, touching. And you're going to count them out as you go. One through nine. Okay. This is how you're going to start. When I say begin, your first foot, which is your left, is one, two, three, all the way down to nine. When you get down to the end and you're at number nine, okay? And you reach number nine, small choppy steps. You're going to turn around and you're going to walk nine steps back to where you began. Do you understand that? >> Up next is the walk and turn test. Will she show improvement this time? Let's find out. >> I'm going to give you some instructions as we go. Okay? Remember, I want you to count it out as you go. >> So, put your feet together. >> Feet together. Hands at your side. When I ask you to, you're going to put your right foot in front of your left, and you're going to stand there until I tell you to begin. Okay? Put your right foot in front of your left. >> Keep your hands down. >> I have a monik on the line returning a phone call that he made. >> Okay, go ahead and begin the test. >> You know what is Okay, >> remember I said when you get to the end, I want you to do small choppy steps >> and turn around. Count back down the other way. Come out with me, miss. Over here. Stand right here for a second. >> By now, the officers have seen enough to make their decision. >> Told you everything that's going on. I smelled alcohol on her breath. She's been very disoriented. I don't know how much she had. She ultimately admitted that she had drank something. Okay. >> She's impaired. She's going to be placed under arrest right now for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Okay. That's where we're at at this point. Okay. She also hit the sign and then she was driving around with your son while she was drinking. Did she have a drinking problem? >> No. >> No. Something happened in her life that she was upset today that she got into it. >> Just got in a just had a stressful week traveling for work and >> Okay. I don't know why she would have gotten in the car to get our son and was home and deal with something. >> No, we can't not do this here. I can't pick and choose, unfortunately. Turn around, miss. >> The boy is released to his father and the vehicle is moved out of the way. The woman is taken into custody for DUI. Number three, mom encourages children to break the law. Gets arrested. Police respond to a shoplifting report involving a woman and two juveniles. Officers quickly identify the group as they exit the store. >> However, you still >> I know you think I think everybody does at this point. >> Everybody knows. >> We're sitting them both. >> Wait, where do you know me from? >> I remember you. >> Where? How do you know me? >> I don't know you. I know I know your sister. Is that your sister? >> Wait, how? >> I saw you down in Banel. I know you >> when she just got charged for. >> I'm not. >> You're the one that was sitting with me and the baby. >> That's what I was sitting with you. >> You're pretty sweet. I like you. >> Yourself, but I mean >> I'm out here with you guys again. >> No, she's pretty sweet. You know the one that was watching over me and the baby when you were getting arrested. >> I don't give a that one charge is already dropped. >> None of that. None of that matters. I'm not here for that. We're here for something different today. >> That charge got dropped. I went to court and literally they told me to go downstairs and then they go, >> "Oh, it's dropped >> yesterday morning." >> Yeah. See, I'm not here to hold anything against anybody. >> No, I didn't have a problem with the actual county. The state trooper me and him kind >> He was rude as hell from the getgo when I don't >> He's a good guy, too. He's a good guy. >> The other one that was still with her. >> Yeah. >> I'm sorry about that. the stage. He came up with attitude and all. And >> me, I give you the attitude you give me. And >> sweet to her, but you were being sweet to her. >> I was nice to her. >> I didn't know. Look, this is the same situation. I'm just here. >> She's right there. >> This whole tight. >> He said it. Well, he knows that it's coming. >> She's She's >> Is she a witness or something? >> She's going to drive. >> Oh, I got you. >> I love you. No. >> Officers approached the woman and her kids asking questions to figure out exactly what went down. >> Going to take about 20 minutes for him to finish. >> So, I can do my whip shopping while I'm waiting on y'all to be released. >> Yeah, I know. Okay. >> Oh, we got time. >> You're bringing me your kid tonight. >> No, I ain't. You're in trouble. >> Are y'all You actually trespassing now? >> What do you mean? >> Like, let's say >> they don't give you paperwork. >> Yeah. >> And they say you're trespass. >> Yeah. >> You're trespass. >> If I don't get it though and they say you in >> You're going to get it. I ain't never got in this in over a year. >> Okay. But they were told you you were trespassed, right? >> Not really. They just told me um not to come in. >> That doesn't mean you're trespassed then. >> It was like one of the workers. He was having a bad day. He's like, "I just don't want you back in the store." >> Yeah. It don't mean nothing. >> Hang tight for us. Okay. Let's figure out what's going on because Cor wants to do something different. >> Yeah. She watching details on the video. I watched the video. >> It's all on the on the savans. >> What's going on? >> We're trying to figure something out. I know my supervisor wants to do something different. Okay. >> What would your supervisor? That's what we're trying to figure out. Hey, remember look. You remember the last time we weren't scared? Nothing bad happened. >> I was scared. >> Nothing bad happened. >> What do you mean? Wait a second. You're like >> we're Wait, let me let me see what's going on. >> You were like, "How do you know she's going to jail?" I was like, "Cuz." And then I was like, "Mom, you're going to jail." And look what happened. She went to jail. >> Look, I'm not >> I don't know what's happening now. >> Me neither, cuz I just got told I'm free to go. And then >> give us a minute and figure out what's going on. Okay. >> What the going on? >> You don't get to grab so hard. I'm not >> Maria dies real quick. >> Okay, let's walk this way. >> What's up? >> What's going on with her? Please don't. >> Just I'll explain in a sec. I don't really I don't really know. >> No, I'm scared. >> What are you scared for? >> Everything's fine. >> Don't even do everybody. Just stop. >> Calm down. She claims she didn't have money for the blanket and told the kids not to take it. But the video clearly shows her putting the blanket in the bag and walking out with the children following right behind. >> I want to know what's going on. >> Okay. All right. Want to know what's going on? So the there's video that shows that you put a blanket in your kid's possession >> and I told them not to do it. >> You told them not to do what? So you put the blanket in their possession? >> I put in there cuz they said they want it and I looked at my wallet. I didn't have a m money and I told them not to do it. >> As as the adult, why didn't you take the belonging away from them knowing that you couldn't afford it? Why didn't you take it away? And why'd you let them walk out the door? >> I didn't let them walk out. I was already out of the building. >> Right. You didn't even You didn't supervise them on any aspect. Okay. >> And then you can even ask my daughter. She even told them I told them not to. >> All right. So, hang tight. >> She's going to jail. It's okay. >> She is going to jail. Yes, >> she is. Perfect to know. >> I told you I'd tell you whatever you wanted to know. Thank you. >> And let me ask for putting in the bag. >> What's up? >> It's for putting in the bag. Huh? Because she taught us not to shop. >> I'm not really sure. I'm not the primary. Did >> you tell us what cops are? >> Not all cops are dicks. Most of them are so nice to me. >> I mean, I didn't do anything wrong. >> So, it's on video. You put one in the bag >> and I told him not I didn't have enough money and I told him not to do it. I couldn't get >> And then you all And then all y'all walk out. >> I didn't all walk out. I was way over across the >> It's on video, y'all. Right in front. You go and then they follow you out. So, why did you put the one in her bag? If >> I pay for it, but my livel >> Well, unfortunately, this is where we're at. >> No, it's not. Whatever. Cuz now I'm >> You have the hard drive with the video? >> Yeah. >> Can I get that, please? >> All right. Do you I mean, so is there a reason why why she walked out with it? >> Do you I mean, you're you're the adult here. Is there a reason why she walked out or not? >> And so then why didn't you take the items out of your bag and and put them back? >> The fish is hot. >> That's fine. You don't have anything against it. >> The woman becomes increasingly emotional and defensive. She mentions being under financial stress and says she tried to discourage the kids from taking anything. >> The reason why >> I just sat there and told her to put it back. She didn't put it back. >> Okay. But you're the adult getting charged and they're getting because you're the adult. When I just got >> Why would your juvenile be charged when you're the adult and you're responsible? >> When the other cop just sat there and said he was gonna give me a break. >> Well, no. We want We just watched the video. >> I know. Myself and Corporal Quint. The cop in there. He even said the video. >> The full video wasn't done at the No, we're past that. Like I said, the video that we just watched, you're deliberately putting the stuff in the bag and y'all are all walking to the front and then you stop. You start walking and they follow you right behind. >> And I was talking to them, telling them not to do it, that I didn't have the money for it. >> Then why didn't you stop them or tell them to go back inside? Like loss prevention had to come out and stop him. >> Lost prevention was right at the door with them. >> So why didn't you stop? Say, "Hey, no, I told him not to." >> I walked back up and was banging on the door to try to talk to him. >> Like I said, video is right there. >> Nope. I won't. This is cutting into my wrist. >> It's cuz you keep turning it. We'll fix it in a second. >> It's fine. Don't worry about it. >> Spread your feet and lean against the car. >> I thought it's fine. Don't worry about it. >> Okay. Spread your feet and lean against the car. >> I am up against the car. How much more you want me against it? >> Are you on probation right now from the DUI arrest? >> No, I'm not on bond. >> You're out on bond. Okay. So, is this a violation? Stop turning your wrist. Turn it the other way. Just let the jail know she is out on bond for the other charge. >> Probably going to get revoked. And you're okay with that lady taking the kids, right? Okay. >> The children are visibly shaken and they're released to a trusted adult who takes responsibility for them. >> I'm just kind of like basic run down to like what's going on because I I was out on the DUI arrest from last time. So, >> yay. >> Cuz I that's why I know who you are with them. Like I know they've you know all that. >> I'm just hanging out my daughter this time around. Um, I mean, ba, basically it's pretty cut and dried. They're all inside. She's holding one of the items that was stolen. >> Puts it in one of the kids' bags and then they all proceed to the front >> and leave. Again, we don't have audio. Obviously, >> we're going based off of what's on the video, but obviously when you see her put the stuff in the kid's bag and then walk out and then the kids walk out and she's like, "Oh, but I told him not to steal it, so she knew it was in there." And then she doesn't come back and say, "Hey, no, don't stay inside." >> I get it. >> I It's right. So, um, is she out on bond or is she on probation for the DUI arrest? >> Yeah, she was out on bond. She was supposed to have court. I think it was yesterday or the day before. She got in there, from what she's told me, they dropped the felony charge. >> I think it just dropped the DUI or like a reckless or something >> the day before for the felony charge for the child neglect, right? >> And then she went and tried to figure out her next court date. They don't even know her next court date. So, I don't know whether that DUI was dropped. I don't know >> any other information than that from what I've received from her. >> Okay. >> Hey, we've been How many times have I seen you now? >> Twice. But it's my fault. This one. >> Hey, listen. What's your name again? >> Ashley. >> Ashley. We've been here so many times and I get you're trying to protect your mom, >> but that one's actually me out because I have my cash and all I need to have money. >> I know you're trying to protect your mom, but it's wrong. >> I know. >> She needs as as your parent, she needs to look out for you. Look, Ashley, you cannot continue to protect her decisions. The choices she makes is the choices she makes. Okay? I want to see you do better. I've seen you more than enough times in situations that you should not be in. It's okay. >> Wait, so I'm not I don't have to do nothing because Okay, thank God. >> As the scene wraps up, officers check in about the woman's vehicle and allow a family member to move it from the lot. >> The van, >> okay, cuz she has suspended license, too, and she knows that. >> So, I just wanted to at least talk to you and give you an idea uh that that's kind of what's going on. So, >> would you want me to go ahead and take the van? Would you rather it sit here until tomorrow? >> That's up to her. It's her van and that's up to Target if Target's okay with it staying overnight until someone can get it. >> I can take it. Like that. Don't bother me. >> Okay. Do you want to Will you take her uh to go ask her if she wants her to take the van out of here and all that? >> Sure. >> All right. So, you're okay with her taking your kids in the car? >> All righty. We'll do. >> Huh? >> Is she good with taking the van? >> Yeah. Yeah, they're fine with that. Kids in the van. What do you have for the citation? >> Subject selected a blanket. >> Mom placed the blanket inside a red bag. I presume to be mom. That's why I put it there. >> Yeah. >> So I said that he took it. >> Well, but mom placed the blanket inside of a red bag they entered the store with. They moved towards the front. Mother exited the juveniles. >> Yeah. Cuz mom put So mom puts it in the bag and then they all they all leave. >> Okay. >> So did you watch the whole video? >> He only showed me them walking out. That's why I said you want to pursue charges on the juvenile when I was in there. >> Yeah. because they all >> so just just make just make sure when you're reading statements that they provide and you see if you see something like that like if mom is placing stuff inside the >> like I said I went off this young male I know I know I'm saying but if that's what he's putting in here you got to watch the whole video because if you're just watching them leaving but he's saying that mom put it in there like >> I got you >> it's just I mean dude I'm not like I said I get it you know it's juveniles but mom mom mom literally puts it in the bag >> and then it's like they all direct towards the front and Ashley, >> we got to take a deep breath. >> Can't be going off. Look, can't be can't be home. >> I know you're going to go home, okay? But you can't be flying off the rocker right now. >> You can be going home. >> You can go home. You guys are free to go. >> Okay, >> you guys are good to go. >> We're good to go. >> Yeah, you're fine. I'm not going to get >> No, you're perfectly fine to go. >> Officers prepare to take the mom into custody and confirm that the Department of Children and Families will be notified. >> Yeah, I'm good. >> Is that all? >> Yeah, they're in the trespasses. I just need to get them. They're somewhere. >> I will. I have to >> be. All right. >> The woman is charged with petty theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Number two, teen makes the call when her drunk mom abandons her in public. Officers respond to a 911 call from a 15-year-old girl who says her mom abandoned her at a floor and decor store. Let's take a look at what happens next. So, what's going on here with my mama? My grandpa went to my grandpa went to the car and she he let my mom drive the phone today. It's it was down the road um by the shop by the mall shopping center and she just started drinking and she just got out of hand and she just threw in me saying she was going to fight me. She actually slapped me kind of in my face and I just when she when she made the stop down there I just ran down here and caught my grandpa. >> What's your mom's name? >> Kayla. >> Kayla. Where's your granddad? >> Hello. >> Hey Kayla, how are you? Pretty good. What's up? What's up? Who is this? >> This is Officer Holler Orlando Police. >> What's up? >> Um, where are you currently located? We're here with your daughter. >> Why? >> Who is this? You have our daughter? >> Yes, it's Officer Holler Orlando Police again. We're here with your daughter at Floor in the Core. Are you anywhere close? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, can you come to floor in the core on the west side close? floor and floor and decor. >> Yeah, I'll be there in one minute. >> Thank you. >> All right. What's going on? What's going on with you and your mom? >> She just started drinking and I didn't She's not good. She >> She's not who? >> She's not good. She's drinking. She's >> What? What does not good look like? >> She just She starts acting crazy. >> Like what? What's What's crazy to you? What does that look like? >> She starts driving fast. She starts yelling. And I didn't want to get out the car cuz I didn't want to go in the um the movie theaters were acting like that. So I tried standing on >> How old are you? >> Who? >> I'm 15. >> 15. >> Where's your dad? >> Don't know. Okay. Who do you live with? >> My grandma. >> You don't live with your mom? like we all we all that girl. >> The teen mentioned she lives with her grandma and not her mom, suggesting this behavior isn't new. >> Does your granddad have a car? >> We'll talk to your mom. See if she's drunk. If we don't determine that she's she's drunk, you're going to have to get back in the car with your mom. >> All right. >> When you said she started drinking, what do you mean by that? She went to 7Eleven and then I saw her I saw her grab a drink but she said it was soda. I didn't believe her but I saw her throw it away cuz when she's lying I just like it's like how she starts acting. >> So what what was it or something? >> She just I don't I think it was like >> or did she buy the 7-Eleven drink there? >> Yeah, she she got a cup and I guess she poured in the cup and then she just threw it away and I didn't really see it clearly. Did you see her pour in the cup? >> Uh, she poured it in the store. >> Did you see her pour in the >> speculation? And that's all she was drink. That's it. >> She stopped twice at 7:30. >> Hey, Kayla. Hey, I'm Officer Scales. I spoke with you on the phone. So, tell me what's going on. Um I tried to attempt to take my daughter to um the um movies or whatever. >> Yeah. Right over here. >> And she's been crying cuz she didn't want her to I guess she didn't want like what I was doing cuz I was trying to figure out what I was going to go to. >> She didn't like it. So she started crying. We got here she started crying like >> Okay. Has she done this kind of thing before? >> No. Not really. >> No. >> No. Okay. >> So, what's the issue with today? I mean, what's different today? Like, what? She just got upset, you think? >> The thing is is because my grandmother sold her house. >> Yeah. >> And my grandmother sold her house. She gave me a round a portion of her money and a lot more responsible things like that. I'm not sure if she or what behavior. >> After listening to her statement, the officers take a look at her car and see the 7-Eleven cup. [Music] >> Just hang out right here with my partner. This is your rental. >> The dad renovated. >> Okay. >> I see. I just see a 7-Eleven cup. >> Yeah. >> What's in the 7-Eleven cotton? >> There's something in there. >> What am I seeing in there, though? Am I going crazy? >> Um, I dropped some wine out of there. >> Some wine? >> Mhm. >> Okay. You been drinking a day then? Just a little bit? Three. >> Okay. How much you think you've been drinking? >> Just ballpark estimain. >> A container. >> Uhhuh. >> Like how big is that container of wine? >> The little bottles. >> Correct. >> Okay. And you got that at the 7-Eleven? >> Correct. >> Okay. And then you put it into the container, the 7-Eleven cup. >> Correct. >> Okay. And how long ago was that? >> 3 hours ago. >> 3 hours ago. >> Mhm. She's telling us different story. That's not around. Turn back around. >> Why you driving around so much? >> Because I'm trying to figure out what I want to take my daughter to be at peace to go to the movies. >> Officers press her on why she was driving around instead of focusing on her child's safety. Her answers are inconsistent. >> But you left her. >> I didn't leave her. She walked away from me. >> Right. Right. But you didn't. >> And I tried to get her to go to the movies. We went to Winter Park village where her schoolmates and everything else live and she didn't want to go there. That's where she didn't want to go. >> Oh, that's the road. She wanted to go by her friends. I see. >> No, no, no, no. It's out there. Her friends don't even go there. Her friends go to Macau somewhere in that area and I tried to get her to park. Put your left foot on that one. Put your right foot in front of your left foot with your heel touching your toe. All right. Keep your arms down to your side. Stand just like that. Tight. Tight. For this one, what I'm going to have you do is pick up whichever foot you're more comfortable with. About 6 in up off the ground. That's about that much. Keep your front foot that you have raised parallel to the ground. Look down at that toe that you have raised and count loud 1,002 1003 and so on to I tell you to stop. Now I'll demonstrate it for you again so you know what I'm looking for. Does that sound fair? >> Mhm. >> Okay. Now got you lined up. Your feet are together. She continued sharing her side of the story, claiming the teen was being disrespectful and lunged at her. So, she grabbed the bat in self-defense, >> blah blah blah. So, I told him to leave him alone and stop name calling him. He didn't like that because he felt like I let him get away with everything. >> Okay. So, um, he was like in my face, which is why I had the bat in my hand. And he ran through my living room, tossed over a table, went through the side um, on my couch is where this table was, and the BB gun is in the corner. >> And he grabbed the BB gun and ran out the door with it. She was still outside on the phone with with my mother >> and I then locked the the gate behind him once he ran out with the >> he then you can hear him on the thing telling her to open the gate and that I I effed up now because I kid him with the bat which I did not. What I did with the bat was smash my phone, which is mine that he was using, because he was telling her to come and get the phone. And I told him he didn't have a phone. And the phone got smashed. And then I threw the phone to him outside. He still had the BB gun and was cursing me out saying um I guess it was somebody's dad said to him about me and I don't recall everything. So, but that's when you heard him saying, "Oh, I effed up now. I effed up now. I hit him with the bat." and he was going to call the police and I let him call the police. I closed my gate behind him. She finished talking to my mom, picking up the rest of the rocks that she had thrown out there and we went back in the house. I was getting ready to take my son to baseball >> when my bell rang and then you guys were. >> Okay. So, at any point did you strike yourself? >> No. >> Whether with your hands or bat or anything like that? >> No, I struck the phone. >> You could see the phone was smashed up. I don't know if he still had it in his in his hand. >> As the conversation goes on, her story becomes more inconsistent with each detail painting her as the real victim. >> Okay. So, how So, did you were you aware of any injuries that your son has? >> No. >> Injuries from what? >> Okay. So, he's pretty banged up on his back and on his arm. Can you explain those where those might have come from? >> From his on his arms and on his back from what? >> I have no idea. >> I don't have any idea either. He we would ran through the house and he knocked over the table, >> ran in the corner where the BB gun was. I don't know how he's got anything on his arms or on his back. It's definitely not for me. Now, what he did outside of the gate, I don't even know where he went after he ran off with the BB gun. He came back a few times, couldn't get back in the gate, and he left. So, I didn't know where where he went, which is why I went on about my business getting ready to take my child to baseball practice. >> So, I wasn't expecting you guys to show up at at my door. >> Yes, ma'am. So, you're saying at no point did you strike him? Did he strike you? >> He attempted to, which is why I grabbed the bat in the first place. >> Okay. >> So, he came at me. The bat was right by the door. >> I grabbed the bat when he came at me. How did he How did he come at you? How? >> Like lunged at me. >> Mhm. And you were So he was inside of the house. >> We were inside of the house. He was towards the I don't know how to explain that. I was standing like facing my back towards the stairs. He was picking up shoes that he had thrown all over the floor. And I told him to pick up his shoes and he could go. This is what the argument was about. He didn't have to be there. He was free to go. So, in the process of him picking up the shoes, yes, I'm still fussing at him and telling him, you know, he didn't need to be there, he's picking on his 8-year-old brother unnecessarily, >> and he then was picking up the shoes. Um, still my daughter was still on the phone with my mom. She was coming back inside the house. And >> so, what do you think? Does her story hold up or is she just trying to save face? what they were saying on it. He was yelling or something like, "Oh, Grammy see, she's always starting drama or something like that." >> And then I went to tell him like, "Shove him out the door." And he just shoved him out the door and he pushed back when I tried to shove him out the door and then like came at me and I grabbed the bat from the door. He ran around through the living room. >> So I thought you said you never touched him. >> Well, I didn't I didn't hit him. I like nudged him, shoved him. It wasn't forceful. He's much bigger than me anyways. Wasn't forceful. I nudged him, try to get him out the door, >> but I didn't even really push him hard, like, you know, just pushed him on his shoulder. >> Yes, ma'am. >> And um he got upset about that and came towards me, which is why I end up having the bat in my hand. He ran around the sofa, knocked the table over in the corner so he could get through the side, grabbed the BB gun out the out of the corner because it was over in the corner behind the chair that's in the corner. Pushed that up against the window and ran out the door and then ran off. Came back telling my daughter to open the gate, left again because I was standing there still at the gate with the bat still, but I didn't touch him with the bat. >> Okay. Is that all? Is that all? That's it. That's it. You didn't let him back in the gate. >> I didn't let him back in the house at all. I didn't let him back in the gate and I told her not to let him back in the gate and I told her to come in the house and she went and got in the shower >> and then that's when >> and that's when the rest of it happened cuz we were getting ready to leave. I was getting ready to take him to baseball. >> All right. All right. No problem. Just hang tight for a second.
