Hello, I'm Adrien Vosquez, chief of police for the Colorado Springs Police Department. The video you're about to see is a significant event briefing video. It's been prepared in accordance with department policy and our commitment to transparency. The use of deadly force is a responsibility CSPD takes very seriously. These incidents are complex and require thorough investigation that can take several months to complete. As the investigation progresses, new information may come to light that could change our understanding of the event. The officers involved in this incident were equipped with bodywn cameras or BWC's. While these cameras provide valuable information, it's important to remember that they may not capture everything an officer sees, hears, or experiences during an incident. In this video, you'll see relevant bodywn camera footage along with other evidence that may help provide context on what led up to the incident and what occurred during it. A public information officer with CSPD's public affairs section will now walk you through the BWC footage, other evidence and facts of this case as they are known at the time of this release. >> I'mra Cronin, a public information officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department. The following significant event briefing video contains graphic images and strong language. Viewer discretion is advised. On Monday, June 23rd, 2025, at about 1:00 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call for service regarding shots being fired in the 1400 block of Michelle Court. The reporting party stated a man at their apartment complex was firing a gun into the air. When responding officers arrived on scene, they contacted a witness who pointed them in the direction of where the gunshots appeared to have come from. As officers searched the complex, they then contacted the suspect outside an apartment building. The officers observed the suspect holding a handgun and ordered him to drop it or he would be shot. The suspect raised the gun at officers. At that time, two officers fired multiple shots each, striking the suspect, causing him to fall to the ground. As officers began to approach the suspect, he still had the gun in his hand. Again, officers ordered the suspect to drop the gun or he would be shot again. The suspect then raised the gun toward one of the officers and fired at least one shot, at which time the officers again fired multiple shots at the suspect. Here is BWC of this incident in real time. >> But she heard six shots. >> What is he holding? >> Hey, drop the gun. >> Drop the gun. >> Drop it. You're going to get shot. >> Drop it. >> Drop it. You're going to get shot again. Cross fire. Quest fire. Drop the gun. >> Drop it. >> 78 shots fired. >> Drop the gun. Drop it. >> You're going to be shot again. back up. >> Stay back. Stay back. >> Drop the gun. Drop the gun. >> Here is BWC of the incident slowed down and highlighted to show the suspect raising his firearm at officers. >> But she heard six shots. What is he holding? Hey, Chuck. The gun. The gun. Drop the gun. >> Drop it. You're going to be shot again. >> Hey, back up. Officers then approached the suspect with the use of a tactical ballistic shield to take him into custody and to provide emergency medical care. After medical personnel made contact with the suspect, they declared him deceased. Pursuant to Colorado law, the El Pas County Sheriff's Office responded and initiated an investigation into CSPD's use of force. Once completed, that investigation will be sent to the fourth judicial district attorney's office for a determination on if the officer's use of force complied with Colorado law. For more details on this incident, including the names of those involved, refer to the written news release linked on this incident's entry on our cases of interest page at www.coladspr.gov/pol, GV/ police where you'll also find additional information regarding investigative transparency and use of force protocols.
