I'm Captain Valerie Little John with the Office of Media Relations. This is an update to an officer involved shooting that occurred on November 18th, 2025. At approximately 28 a.m., Oklahoma City officers responded to an assault with the deadly weapon call in the 7900 block of Northwest 7th Street. When officers arrived, they located a male victim who had been attacked with a machete and sustained a significant injury to his hand. The suspect had fled before officers arrived. Officers searched for the suspect but were unable to locate him. A short time later, officers were notified the suspect had returned to the area. Officers located the individual identified as Albert Benson near the 500 block of North Council Road. Benson was still armed with a large machete, was yelling for officers to kill him, and began running back towards the original victim's location. Officers attempted to deescalate the situation and gave repeated commands for Benson to drop the weapon. He refused. Due to the earlier violent assault, officers deployed two tasers in a 40mm less lethal impact round in an attempt to disarm him. These efforts were unsuccessful and Benson charged the officers with the machete. As he closed the distance, officers discharged their firearms, striking him. >> Someone grabbed their 40. The three officers who fired their weapons have been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. This investigation is still in the early stages and will take time to complete.
