This man shot and killed his ex-girlfriend inside her home before calling 911 and admitting what he had done. Met with the parties on the record, talked about the plea, and I believe that the sentence that the parties have come to is a reasonable sentence. And it is consistent with the principles and purposes of felony sentencing. >> [clears throat] >> Uh with all sentences that are being imposed here today, post-release control is a portion of that sentence. That means upon your release from prison, you will be at a a minimum mandatory 2 years to a maximum of 5 years supervision by the adult parole authority. Why I have to say that to you is because it has uh meaning going forward. Upon your release from prison, you'll be on the supervision of that uh parole board, and you'll have a post-release control officer. If you fail to abide by the terms and conditions of the supervision, your officer could ask for a hearing before the board. And if they found you to be in violation, they could return you to prison without a trial. Okay? Return you to prison for up to 1/2 the sentence that I gave here today, but never more than 9 months at any one time. Do you understand that, Mr. Ward?
