I am Deputy Chief William Griffith of the Dallas Police Department's Criminal Investigation Group. I am here to brief you on the details as we know them regarding the officer involved shooting that occurred July 27th, 2025. This is the fifth Dallas Police officer involved shooting in 2025. On July 27th, 2025, at approximately 2:15 a.m., Dallas police officers were working in a uniformed offduty capacity in the 10700 block of Finel Street when they heard a gunshot. The preliminary investigation determined that 23-year-old Brian Cruz Compost was fighting with a man in the parking lot when Cruz Compost fired a handgun, gracing the man on the face. Officers went toward the sound of the gunshot and saw the two men fighting. The officer observed Cruz Compost with the handgun in his hand and gave loud verbal commands for Cruz Compost to drop the gun. Cruz Compost ignored the officer's command and ran away. The officer broadcasted Cruz Compost description over his police radio. Officer Kenan Anderson encountered Cruz Compost, who was still holding the handgun. Officer Anderson gave Cruz Compost multiple loud verbal commands to drop the gun. Cruz Compost ignored Officer Anderson's command, turned and lifted the gun. Officer Anderson fired one round, hitting Cruz Compost in the right shoulder. Cruz Compost ran through the parking lot and across Fenel Street as Officer Anderson chased him. And while running, Cruz Compost dropped the gun on the ground. Cruz Compost moved toward the handgun and Officer Anderson fired one round, missing Cruz Compost. Cruz Compost made another motion towards the handgun. Officer Anderson kicked the gun away and tried to take Cruz Compost into custody as cover officer arrived to assist. Cruz Compost attempted to run and was tased by Officer Anderson to gain compliance. The cover officer then applied a tourniquet to Cruz Compost's arm. Dallas Fire Rescue arrived and transported Cruz Compost to a local hospital in stable condition. Cruise Compost is charged with aggravated assault and evading arrest. No officer was injured during this incident. This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Dallas Police Special Investigations Unit. The Dallas County District Attorney's Office was notified, responded, and will conduct their own investigation. The Office of Community Police Oversight was notified, responded to the scene, and has been briefed regarding this incident. To be transparent, the Dallas Police Department is releasing the body warn camera footage of this incident. Put it down. Put it down. Put it down. Put it down. >> Put it down. >> Hey. Hey.
