On January 18th, 2024, on a cold winter night, officers with the Greenale Police Department in Wisconsin performed a traffic stop on a vehicle struggling to stay in its lane. What should have been a routine encounter would soon turn into a fight for their lives on the edge of a bridge. Hello. Hello, sir. Hello. Officer Green, please. Police department, can you roll on your window for me? So, the reason I'm stopping you, having a hard time maintaining your lane, is there a reason for that or >> no? And uh I'm going to probably take him back to the lobby >> cuz it's cold. Makes sense. >> I can give him the option. He can do either one, but he's just very >> traffic >> slow and >> Yeah. And just not giving me >> answers and stuff. Just acting a little weird. Have >> a val license somehow. >> It's been a while. Last OWI was in ' 05. Holy cow. Let's turn his car on. Yep. He's turning his car on. Can you roll down this window, please? Can you roll this? Turn your car off. Turn your car off. Hey, Brian. Can you do me a favor and step out of the vehicle for me? >> Huh? No, sir. >> No, sir. Why is that? >> I'm I'm lawfully telling you to step out of the vehicle. >> My driver's license. My driver's license. >> Nope. You have to step out of the vehicle. >> Step out of the vehicle. >> Open the door. Don't take off. Do not do not do that. >> Don't take off. >> Not going to >> turn off the car now. It's going to be a 55 investigation northbound coming up to Leighton. Speed 60 passing Leighton if Greenfield can get sticks up somewhere. And we're passing the interstate continuing northbound on Lumis. Passing 43rd and still continuing speeds above 50. >> Why don't you call it Ellis? We're going to go back uh southbound >> southbound on Lumis coming up 43rd. No traffic. And he's going southbound again. Appears you're trying to go eastbound at 894. Dispatching the pursuit of a vehicle for possible intoxication went eastbound on 894 on 894 eastbound speed are at 20 mph right now. It is confirmed the uh registered owner Brian J. >> Anderson out of screen police department be eastbound 894 from Lumis. Possible 55. Speeds going to be at 60 mph. Traffic is light. Roads are dry. B passing 27th Street. Continuing eastbound 894. Speeds are at 77 mph. Very traffic ride. We're going to get off street using the left turn lane to go northbound on 27th Street from 894. He ran the red light at 2. Continuing northbound on 27th. He is in the left lane. Help me. He's trying to He's trying to jump the fence over onto the freeway. >> Help me. Turn that leg. >> Do not do this, man. Can you grab his >> Can you get up? >> Grab one. >> Hang on. We got more hands coming. >> It's okay. >> I need hands up here. >> No. No, you don't. You okay? >> Yeah, we're all >> Yeah, everyone's good. It's Jimmy. Oh, you guys are Jimmy. >> All right, man. Stand up. >> Just walking back to my squad here. >> Let's go this way. >> South Moroccan. >> I wouldn't try to name drop. I know. >> Yeah, he was trying to stop. >> He was trying to call his son. He's in custody. >> That's good. >> The [music] suspect, Brian Anderson, was taken into custody after officers pulled him back to safety during the overpass incident. He was transported for medical evaluation and now faces multiple charges, including OWI [music] 6th offense, secondderee recklessly endangering safety, and fleeing from an officer. According to available records, there is not yet sentencing information documented for [music] this case, and all suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. And what stood out to me with these officers was the discipline. They move fast, they weren't reckless, and they change the situation that could have ended tragically for everyone at that scene. That's what you call professionalism. Recognizing when a person's mind [music] isn't fully present and still doing everything you can to save them. Because alcohol and a bad mental state don't just cloud judgment, they create this strange momentum. And momentum in these moments doesn't just end in arguments, it can also end in a horrible headline. Nights like this always remind me that when alcohol, panic, and confusion collide, consequences get real very fast.
