I'm going to tell you right now for those of y'all who have elderly parents and y'all have them in nursing homes, this right here is going to be hard to watch. Um, I haven't watched the whole video, but I skimmed through it to see if there's something I want to do and this is something I want to do. Shout out to Watch Cop Cam for this video. We're not going to waste any time. Let's get into it, y'all. >> On April 28th, 2024, officers responded to a nursing home facility after family members contacted management about an employee abusing their mother. >> [snorts] [snorts] >> I watched a video today from a family member. The resident lives here in the community. And uh, we have three shifts. The overnight shift who gets off at 6:00 a.m. This happened around 6:00 a.m. and the video I can show it to you if you want to see it. >> Mhm. >> Um, and so she was going to ask if I need to start with a contact you all, get a statement, case number, and that kind of thing. Um, the staff member is not in the community at at the moment. >> Does she work tonight later on? >> She I've taken her off the schedule. So, she's on administrative leave, paid administrative leave until we can get this sorted out. So, here's the video. >> So, that family member just placed this camera in the room hidden somewhere or something? >> Right. It's not hidden. It's It's in plain sight. Um, and we encourage that. We let them, you know, have cameras. We normally post a sign on the resident's door to let staff know that there's video surveillance. >> Is this the first time you've had an incident like this with this employee? >> So, what is this going to be? >> So what was he throwing at her? >> So it's a it's a lady at the residence and she was taking her pants off. So she's ripping her pants down. So the resident takes her pants off and throws them at the care manager. That's a female. >> I can't you can't tell if they're hitting them like trying to hit her with it or she's trying to get her pants like turn them inside out. >> So she she had her pants on and she pulls them down to her ankles. The staff member kind of yanked them down some more. The resident steps out of them and then throws them. And then that's when you see her do that. Um so let's see. She has been here since uh 2021. So 3 years. Her name is It's O M O. >> Is that the last name? >> This is her last name. That's her first name. >> Okay. Omanike. And do you know what the victim suffers from? She does. So she probably wouldn't >> Unfortunately she can't no she can't tell you what happened. Even her words are like word salad. So the voice you hear her talking but it's not clear. Just like do do do do do. It's like [music] she repeats words over and over but I am appalled to say this. >> Yeah it seems like she really had some time to think about it too after she was going to do it and then she was >> Right. And then maybe the >> For me it's the >> Right. >> And then going ahead and doing the >> Right. So you softened the blow it sounded like I couldn't physically you couldn't see it but I mean this is something that's unacceptable. We just don't want to you know tolerate things like that. >> Do you have the victim's information? >> I do. >> Do we do we even need a >> All right y'all we we got to talk about this at the end because we We got to talk about this at the end. Let's let's get back into it. >> she's got the knife. >> So, her name's June Thomas. >> What was your name? >> [music] >> Hey, Jones. My name's Rob. Can we talk to you for just a couple of minutes? >> [music] >> What? >> Yeah, can we talk to you for just a couple of >> You're not in any trouble. >> not in any trouble. We'll just step over here so we >> [music] >> We're just here for something that may have happened in your in your room this morning in the bathroom. >> In the bathroom? >> Of your of your room. Do you remember any of that? >> [music] >> 2:15 units. Code 10 remainder. >> All right, well. That's all we need from you, ma'am. If you want to go back and wait for supper, that'd be just fine. Nice to meet you. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Uh thank you. >> There's a little desk inside we can go sit at real quick. I'm just going to collect your your statement, though. Good. How are you? I assume you usually work night shifts. >> Yeah. >> And me, too. I >> Okay, you want us to go to the inside >> Uh yeah, there's a there's a little desk that's right there. We'll just go in there real quick. Okay, that's fine. You can roll your windows up. How do you say your last name? >> Ojukwu. >> Uh I'm not even going to try. It's too hard. So, Yeah, so I went over there today. Actually, I have to before we question everyone. We we have to read them their their rights, so You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. >> [music] >> You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him present with you while being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent before any questioning if you wish one. So, I went there and I saw a video. I can't really hear what's going on in the video. It looks like maybe she had difficulty like taking off her pants. >> Yes. >> Okay. So, just tell tell me a little bit about what happened cuz I I only saw the video. She's got like dementia or something. So, I don't She doesn't remember anything. >> Yes. Yes. So, a I have my coworker there, the man. I don't know if you saw the >> Yeah, I saw him. >> Yes. So, this morning I was off of my shift at 6:00 a.m. So, my coworker came to me and said, "Oh, could you assist me with this lady because some women clients we have do not like men and stuff like that." I don't know what happened. So, I said, "Okay, that's fine." So, I went in there and I took her from the bed. I said, "June, let's go into the bathroom so I can change you." So, I went and took her to the bathroom. She sat on the toilet. I took off her pants and she just dropped the pants on me and just slapped me across the face. Oh. I said, "June, why would you not" So, I tried to grab the thing from her. So, in process of grabbing it from her, I think he accidentally hit her face. So, the day thought that I hit her across the face like I was being abusive to her. So, that was when I got the text from my supervisor that I was on administrative leave. So, I had to call her because I didn't even know I didn't even remember anything that had happened. >> Okay. >> So, when she called me and they texted me, that's when I called the police. >> So, so she takes off the pants and then she does what? >> She takes off the pants and slapped me with it across the face. >> And then what happens after that? >> And then I [clears throat] tried to take the pants from her. I think in the process of dragging it from her, it accidentally hit her face. I don't know. I didn't think that was abusive. I didn't hit her on accident. >> So you're saying you're saying that her own actions resulted in the pants hitting her face? >> Yes, I tried to take it from her. So that was probably what happened. We eventually changed her and we left the room and that was all that happened. >> All righty, that's that's all I need to know. All right, can you sign up for me? >> Okay. >> All right, so turn around. You're being placed under arrest, okay? >> I'm being arrested? >> I'm just going to give you cuffs, okay? >> You have to? >> Yeah, I have to. Yeah, it's it's there it's for striking her, okay? In the video I could see that you used your hand and you hit her across the face. All right. I'll try to make these as comfortable as possible. They're not that comfortable though. That's all I'm going to do cuz they're at a weird angle. I don't I want to make sure these don't get too tight on you, okay? That's why. >> So are you taking me to jail? >> You have to get booked in. Yeah, but I'm this is what I'm going to do. I'm going to listen >> I'm sorry, but I didn't I didn't do this to her on purpose. Can you please take this off me? This is not fair. >> work with on this side, okay? We're going off based off what we saw on the video, okay? The video tells a little bit a little bit different story than what you told us, okay? So at this point >> Is it okay if I call him? Oh god, I please >> We're not going to make any phone calls until we get to the jail, okay? So go ahead, come on out, ma'am. >> This is NOT FAIR. WHAT I MEAN, THIS IS NOT FAIR. YOU TOLD me that >> Come on, ma'am. Let's go. We're not to search your I'm going to put your phone with you. >> Um >> I didn't DO ANYTHING. SAVE ME. This is not fair. >> Listen. You're going for a few hours. >> This is not fair. >> We got to go in my car. >> I didn't hurt anybody. >> I understand. This is not a big deal. >> I didn't hurt anybody. >> Go ahead and walk over here. >> [laughter] >> Oh god. What's the reason? I didn't hurt anybody. This is not fair. >> You're going to see a judge tomorrow. And you're you'll be good, okay? >> This is This is not Please, I want to go home. I didn't do anything. >> Well, we can't do that, ma'am, so we got >> This is not fair. I didn't do anything. >> So, listen. When we go inside the car, it's not your your your hands are handcuffed behind your back, okay? Try not to lean back on your hands, okay? Cuz that's going to hurt your wrists, okay? Okay, we're going to go in the car here. You don't have anything in your pockets or anything? Any weapons? >> Any drugs or anything? >> No weapons on you? >> I don't have anything in my >> You don't have anything in your bra or in your shirt or anything? >> No, I don't have >> In the Okay. We're going to have a seat here, ma'am. Again, kind of lean lean to one side, okay? That way you keep the pressure off your hands and wrists, okay? It's okay. You can take You can take your time. >> It's so hot. I can't I can't Oh god. >> You want to step out and try to get maybe a better angle? Can I Can I help you up there? So, there we go. Okay. Okay. Listen. Let Let me talk without interrupting me, okay? Can you listen to me for 1 second? This is the favor I'm going to do. I'm not You're You're going to be good tomorrow. Okay? You have to stay there for the night cuz you have to see a judge. It's not like you're going there for a few days. Do you understand that? Also, I'm not going to tow your car. I'm going to let your car stay here. I'm going to try to save you that money. >> I have Is there not bail involved or something like that? >> Yeah, you will, but you That's You have to go in to get that done. So, this is It's not like you're going there >> [sighs and gasps] >> for a while, okay? So, just >> I did not purposefully hit anybody. I have never been abusive before. >> I'll I'll put that I'll put that in the report, okay? >> been abusive. Is it okay if I call the Stephanie and call them because they are making a false accusation against me? >> Ma'am, listen. I'm going to close the door. We'll be with you in just a moment. >> This is not fair. This is not fair at all, God. I can't I just think I don't think I want to do this stuff anymore. This lady, what she did is not fair. I didn't do anything. I didn't hurt anybody. Oh, God. >> Due to her actions, she was arrested and charged with assault. For anyone with a loved one in a nursing home, this is a disturbing reminder of how important it is to know they're being treated with care and respect. >> All right, let me let me go back to the video before I say anything. Let me go back and look at the beginning. All right, let's look at it. Let's look at it. Let's go. I don't know. I want to get it right. All right. >> About an employee abusing their mother. >> Okay, so yeah, when they was talking, I didn't see the the tap. I just saw the hand motion that she did, but I didn't see that she actually tap her and slapped her. Cuz I Okay, like you know, listen y'all y'all know me on this channel now. I don't I don't I don't look at the one side of things because the people in these comments and the people on YouTube, boy, y'all out for people heads. When they do something bad, y'all go y'all and then yeah, put them in jail. Um but uh I'm like that, too, but I look at both sides of things. Um I was about to say something totally different, but I missed that tap. First off, let me say shout out to the to the ladies uh kids or whatever family member that put in that camera in the room. That is smart. That is one of the smartest thing you could ever do because nursing homes do the workers do abuse those patients. Well, on the flip side, let me say this before I get into this. I've known people who have worked at nursing homes. When those people are older and they have dementia, they are hard to deal with and they sometimes are difficult and they will hit you, they will spit at you. My mom used to work do that stuff when I was younger she said they would throw their feces at you and stuff. And then she came up in the uh you know, she was working in the uh '60s and the '70s. So, they would call her the N-word sometimes and she said she never abused them. She said, "But it's hard to hear that every day. They say, 'Get out of my face, nigger.' You know, you know how they was back in the day. And she had to go through that and she said they would throw their feces at you, they they would curse you out, they don't want you touching them. And sometimes, you know, as a human when somebody doing those things to you, you kind of you kind of have to watch yourself. Let's come on, y'all. Let's be human here. You But you The thing that I don't like about the world we watch these videos, we see things happen, but we don't keep it real. As a human being, somebody attacking you and talking to you like that, you going to want to retaliate. That's the human side of you. But, here's the thing though. If you know these things going to happen, you shouldn't have attempted to take that job. You know what I'm saying? And then also, before you retaliate, put yourself in other people's shoes. What if that was your mom? You know what I'm saying? Those are the things that I think about. Yeah, they may come at you. They may want to attack you. They may want to do things. But, at the same time, would you slap your mama like that? Y'all you want somebody to slap your mom? Cuz if if that woman right there, mom would have been in there and she tapped her mom, somebody tapped her mom, she'd be ready to fight and sue. So, yeah, you got to put yourself in the shoes. I know it's kind of difficult to um deal with them and they have dementia, but you got to take into consideration they have dementia. And you got to take into consideration that some things you got to forgive them that what for what they do. I don't know why it when they get older and they go through that, it makes them angry. And they get a little erratic. Um so, you should know that when you take that job that you're going to have to deal with that. And that's something you got to have a tough skin with. Because that's your job. And then also, that's somebody's parent. And you got to think about that. You don't want nobody doing that to you. Because I'm going to tell you the truth, if I would have saw that woman do that to my mom, >> [snorts] >> that's all I'm going to say. And I'm a non-violent person. But, I I just Yeah. Yeah, I did That's all I'm going to say about that. I'm going to be nice about it. Well, on the flip side, I do understand her frustration. We we you you you're dealing with those people. You don't know what the lady say to her day to day day from day to day. My mom worked in that that field. I know other people they say they they are really abusive at the mouth. And uh for some reason I I just don't know why they are, but I understand because they are sick. But, at the same time, don't put your hands on nobody. And I want to say so much, but I'm going to be nice. >> [laughter] >> Y'all got to go to the other reaction channels if you want to hear something harsher, but I'm going to say I'm going to say this, don't put your hands on nobody because if you put your hands on my mama, then that's going to make me want to put hands on you. I'm just going to be honest with you. Thank y'all for being here. Thank y'all for the love and support. Shout out to Watch Cop Cam for this video. Come to the comments and let me know what y'all think about this situation right here. And let me know what you agree with and what you don't agree with. And let me say this. Listen to the whole video. I've had people comment on stuff that I've said in the past and all they hear is what offended them. They didn't hear the the good things that I said. Listen to the whole video before people jump in the comments. I can't remember a video I said something and I said something in the middle and somebody got offended. I couldn't watch your video cuz you said this. But did you see what I said at the end? Yeah. Until next time, don't get caught slipping and slapping moms in nursing homes on camera. >> [music] >> Hit the like, press subscribe, keep the energy right. >> [music] >> Cuz you know we [singing] back again with the body cam vibes.
