We have had a couple guys fall in pools. Usually it's at night when we're serving a search warrant or we're on a barricade. Uh usually some type of gas in the air or something like that or it's a really dark night and uh we just don't see the pools. Our recruits go through this training in full fire gear or turnout. And we kind of thought it may be beneficial to the team. Helmet, rifle, vest, plates, boots, pants, you you're talking 70-80 lbs of extra gear on. We got a bunch of old equipment that we had laying around in storage. We did a couple of simulated scenarios using a backboard in case they were injured. What we learned was that our vests are pretty buoyant initially. Um even with our plates in, most guys were expecting to sink right to the bottom. Since we are technical rescue, we have access to the inflatable boat which we do training on annually and we thought we never know what's going to happen. If it's not the first time we see it when we're out on the actual call, it's probably be better. It's just a tool that we now know they have the capability of in case we had to access some place by water.
