e e e good afternoon this is Daniel here with Copwatch TV just want to welcome everyone into our live show we're going to go ahead and break down some of the most interesting and important cases in policing from around the country now if you haven't already please go ahead and subscribe to the channel make sure that you share it with friends and family because one of the things that we like to do is make sure that we get as many people as possible here in these live shows because believe it or not while I'm going through some of these cases we're going to have a lot of questions and comments and there are going to be some people who disagree with my take on a lot of these cases and that's what I like that's what I think is interesting to really see why why people disagree about different cases and really trying to see if there's an understanding that can be reached so so make sure you go ahead and follow the channel and if you haven't already you can go ahead and follow me Daniel over at policelaw news just about everywhere all right so real curious to see where everybody is watching from today let's see we've got Ronnie Peterson from California we have Rottweiler training um on the wh in England oh good to see you uh San the man uh the land of Hurricane soon Turks and Kos all right well it's good to see everybody and and if you happen to be um listen just I I I have to say this please don't take ammo with you if you're going to Turks Turks and Kos kikos however you say it don't take any ammo with you there on the plane always always a always a strange thing to do all right so the first case that we're going to talk about and you know if this isn't the way that I normally start these types of of shows is talking about a police officer involved with the dog but you know like it or not one of the most viral or most interested cases that people around the country are talking about is is a is a case involving Teddy the Dog in Sturgeon Missouri so I'm going to go through it and again a lot of the times when police officers make don't do the correct thing or make make mistakes I'm going to go ahead and call it out and that's exactly what this entire case is about so please put in the comments if you have any different opinions on me on this case but let's talk about Teddy the Dog in Sturgeon Missouri so this happened a couple weeks ago in in a small town in in Missouri and it involved a 13lb dog a 13 lb blind and deaf Shih Tzu named Teddy so so exactly the exactly what happened in this case is exactly what what happened in this case is that essentially the owner of the of of Teddy was um at dinner and he got a call that his you know 13lb Shih Tzu Teddy the Dog you know had gotten out from the yard now of course the first first question you know besides me asking you know why isn't you know the hash Teddy lives matter why that's not trending but the first question I have to ask is is listen how is a blind and deaf 13lb dog getting out of an an enclosure U it just doesn't seem like it'd be real hard to keep one of those dogs penned in but you know that's that's besides the point so so the owner is at dinner you know he gets a call that the dog got out and essentially it seems like you know it was a female neighbor who saw that Teddy was out kind of Milling around over by her over by her her house and you one of the strange things is is you know she involves she involves police so she calls 911 dispatch or the or the non-emergency dispatch which is again kind of strange because you know the dog isn't hurting anybody it's small it doesn't even know where it is so so but anyways maybe the woman was just trying to get a help or call animal control but one way or another there appears to not be any animal control in this area or there were no animal control on duty so they dispatched a police officer to this call and you know that isn't that that's strange you know in the city that I I used to work in before I uh retired is you know sometimes you know animal calls you know police officers would actually be the first ones to go to calls involving animals because you know there's more police officers sometimes there may only be a few Animal Control Officers for an entire city so maybe they aren't available or you know police officers might be able to go there first um uh you know because it's possible that the few um Animal Control Officers are are you know already there or they're at their girlfriend's house or something like that so it's it's not unnormal or strange for police officers to be the first one's dispatched so an officer is dispatched and and he gets there and you know he finds Teddy the Dog it's kind of like an area where there's like some grass looks it's not it's not a park but looks like it's it's it's some open space and he's walking behind Teddy and he has one of those poles with like the the loop around it and it seems like you know he's trying to you know capture Teddy that seems like what he's trying to do but if you watch the body camera video he actually only Walks Behind Teddy for about a minute so just over a minute he's walking he's walking behind Teddy and you could hear the officer he's breathing really heavy and you know it's it's weird it's almost like a soundtrack like the officer's heavy breathing is like a soundtrack in this movie it's really really a strange thing but he's laboring and he's walking behind Teddy the Dog and you could tell again it's a 13lb shih tzu that's blind and deaf it's not a threat it's not acting strange it's kind of just walking around and smelling things and that's really all it's doing well for some reason after about a minute and and it doesn't make it doesn't make any sense at all it's almost like a scene from a horror movie where you show like hey like this is what the serial killer did like on his way to killing a bunch of people it's really strange he takes out his gun and he shoots Teddy twice again it's nuts he shoots Teddy twice he kills him as he's walking back to the car he says that he had to dispatch the dog that's what he says over the radio then he goes and he gets this crazy like dead dog bucket that he already has in his car for you know when he has to deal with dead dogs he kills and he brings it back to where Teddy was he puts Teddy in the in the in the bucket or the basket and then he walks away you know and there's a woman who's I don't know if it was the caller or not but she kind of questions the officer like hey like why are you shooting this thing like what's going on and you know he basically says that he had to do it it doesn't make any sense well you know by the time the officer gets to to the substation the owner of the dog he actually gets to the substation just about the same time and the owner and the police officer actually have a conversation and you know the owner uh he's a lot more reasonable and calm than I think a lot of people would be in a situation like that and the owner is basically asking pretty normal and reasonable questions asking questions such as like you know like did you feel in fear like why did you shoot the dog and you know the officer you know here's what his explanation is the officer says you know well I was sent to this call and the dog was walking around I didn't know who the owner was I didn't see a caller and I wasn't sure what it was doing I didn't want it to run out in a street and get hit by a car so I shot it like I'm not exaggerating that's what he says and the the O the owner of the dog you know asks a pretty you know pointed question he says you know did you feel in fear like was the dog threatening you and the officer kind of like CU it's obviously it's a 13lb dog that doesn't know where where it is so the officer kind of takes offense that and he goes did I say I felt in fear essentially answering that question by no of course I didn't feel in fear well again it again this doesn't make any sense so I don't know what the officer was thinking maybe because it's Sturgeon Missouri which is a small town which none of their stuff goes viral but this actually went viral um this actually went viral um and it went it went crazy which is a good thing because you know stories like this should be covered so you know the city of sturgeon the way that they communicate with people so a lot of different cities they communicate with people over X well the city of sturgeon is living in like 2003 so they decide to communicate with people over Facebook so you know what they do um so if we look at what sturgeon so sturgeon is in Boon County Missouri and uh uh the population was uh 933 as of a couple years ago so it's a small town There's not even there's not even a thousand people there right so you know none of this stuff goes viral I don't know if these officers think that they can just do whatever they want and get away with it but um they learned the lesson here and so did the city of sturgeon you know this is pretty much a so really what happened here is basically a a test case is basically a lesson for small towns of what not to do because what the city of sturgeon did within you know a couple days of this happened and you know um it it started to kind of go viral the city the official Facebook page of the city of sturgeon you know essentially went on to say that the officer did the right thing in fact what they say is that the officer acted within his authority said that here's what they said on the Facebook page that the officer was in fear for his safety and also that the officer thought that the dog had rabies because it was kind of wandering around that the officer thought that the dog had rabies so that the officer acted within his authority and had to shoot the dog which is absolutely insane uh no one is going to buy that so what ended up happening was is after that after that then the the mayor resigned and the City of Jeremiah Osborne lies I I agree 100% smoked to paprika thank you so much um so what happened after that is there was another post from the city of sturgeon where they essentially said that the mayor resigned and that someone else kind of like an interm mayor is taking place and they also changed their tune about it which they should have done they is they basically said that they were appalled by the actions of the police officer which they absolutely should have done they absolutely should have done and you know the the the PAW Patrol Union just went crazy outrage and that's kind of what started this but you know this story really went viral and so I I did a story on this when this was kind of you know just starting up on my on my Tik Tok channel the first story I did got 1.6 million views the Second Story I did got about 480,000 views so people were really interested in this case as they should have been and why I say that this is a lesson to all small small towns is listen even if you're a small town in the middle of nowhere it's one of those things where if something if something is bad enough it's going to go viral it's going to make national news it's going to be trending onx and it's just the idea that you're not going to have a public relations person look over this at all doesn't make any sense and listen here is all that the city of sturgeon had to do here's all they had to do is to say listen this happened it's under investigation that's all they had to say they I mean the idea that an investigation would have occurred already doesn't make any sense Jeremiah says they had to do damage control after the boiler plate officer safety response failed absolutely and at least but at least their damage control was honest um because they said that they were appalled they said that they contacted the Attorney General's office who my guess is already on this looking at possible charges for the officer it's absolutely insane there's absolutely no reason that the police officer should have done that to me this seems criminal I mean it's it see it seems completely crazy it seems like animal abuse now here's my question on this so because again what I'm curious about is that so there had to be a reason why the department said that the officer acted within his authority so I'm really curious about what are the Sops what are the policies what are the officers trained to do and the it's almost like even if the officers have this training I'm saying it doesn't matter because what the officer did is so far beyond the bounds of Common Sense and basic human decency that I don't care what the training is but you know what do they tell officers to do because you know one of the responses from the city is that they're going to send the officers to animal control to get more training and again like like what kind of training do you need to to say hey um a 13 pound blind and deaf dog who isn't hurting anyone uh do don't kill that dog like again like this is insane what kind of training do you think could have fixed this it doesn't make any sense so so so that's uh let's see Steve Ladner says damage control was honest after they got put on Bless yeah it was and again Steve you know these are the kinds of cases I think need to be covered again I covered it on Tik Tok and and I and I you know I posted on X and everywhere else but um you know the stories that I got uh or the views that I got on Tik Tok were were the most the mayor the mayor ended up resigning which I think is correct the officer is on leave and um you know one of those things is you know I get messages on uh Tik Tok and x and Instagram I get messages all the time from people around the country whenever I do it story but you know a lot of times I also get messages from from police officers and I'm telling you I got five or six messages from different police officers who say that they worked with this guy this officer that they actually worked with him and that he's not a good cop that he's a terrible cop um I got a message from one guy who said that he used to be a corrections officer with this guy and this guy was a mess and he doesn't know how he ever became an officer and you know the last thing I'm going to say about this case is you know if you watch the video so Not only was the officer recording the interaction with the dog owner on body camera video video but the owner of the dog was actually recording the officer on his cell phone as well which is definitely a smart thing to do because again if a police officer is going to shoot your 13lb dog for absolutely no reason the idea that he's he's following policy and recording your contact with him you know I I wouldn't count on that either so it's always good to record on your own if you can as well and you know basically when the officer or when the owner of the dog was able to record this officer you see his uniform and he's wearing jeans and you know it just kind of one of those things if your normal everyday police uh uniform for your local police department if it includes wearing jeans like it's something's messed up that that's a Telltale sign that something is going to go wrong if the normal police uniform is uh jeans and a can of tobacco like that's that's that's it you know that you don't have a great Police Department you may want to invest something more now okay so aside from that is I I I participated in a i I I participated in a uh a social experiment kind of accidentally you know maybe not really a social experiment more just like an observation that I made so again like I said on my on my Tik Tok Channel police law news I went ahead and I posted three different videos about Teddy the Dog the first one got 1.6 million views then 480,000 views and the last one got 70,000 views and that's a good thing I'm not complaining I want people to watch my stuff it's an important case I think I did a good job covering it which is why I got so many views but here's what I think is interesting the day after that so on day four I did one video each day so on day four I was looking and I saw a video of a New York City Police Department Officer who saves a dog so this is a case where you know event basically was the exact opposite thing so what this officer did is they were on a call and while they were on a call this woman took this one-year-old mini poodle and threw it off a ledge and the dog was bleeding and injured and you know the what the New York City police officer did is she didn't just call animal control and say hey pick this thing up she and she grabbed she grabbed the dog she jumped into a buddy's car and they raced down to the they raced down to the uh uh emergency vet and you know they they basically got this dog there now no the officer I wouldn't say save the dog's life because you need a doctor or a surgeon in order to save the dog's life but again without the actions from the officer like this dog just dies there on the street and that's what a lot of people thought that you know the dog was dead once it was thrown off the ledge so again I'm not going to say this officer is a hero but you know at least she did something good like this is a good a good positive story of a police officer kind of going above and beyond you know to save the life of a dog so I put that that video up on day four and guess how many views it got 400 not 400,000 400 and it's almost like it's like it's like so so it's like here you have one video of a police officer doing something terrible probably criminal with a dog and it gets millions of views then you have an officer doing something good with a dog and it gets 400 views again I'm the same guy with the same channel actually the video that has 400 when it comes to the algorithm of like when I post videos that actually should do better with my audience I actually posted the video with 400 at a better time than I did with with the other ones and um yeah it's uh it's a uh it's just one of those things I know that Copwatch TV also um uh shared a video or posted a video recently of a of a horse uh being being uh saved by a police officer and I think that video got you know under a thousand views as well whereas you know normally on Copwatch TV a lot of times sometimes we get a million views sometimes hundreds of thousand views but again so it it's it almost makes me think that it's like you know the algorithm is essentially set and it's it's designed for conflict it's designed to show police officers doing a bad thing and you know during while I posted these videos obviously I got thousands of comments as well you know a lot of the comments are like well police kill 10,000 hey sha Shaquil me good to see you you know a lot the comments are you know police officers kill 10,000 dogs a year and this is it and this is all police do and you know again I was a cop for I was a cop for you know 20 years and um I was I was on uh I was on uh in uniform for 15 years and you know I never shot a dog I got bit by a dog once uh my uh second year out in 2007 I got bit by a dog on duty but I didn't shoot it it almost took my hand off I didn't shoot it it wasn't the dog's fault it was a dog being a protective dog right so it's it's like I've never shot a dog all of my friends I can't think of one friend on the police department in two decades who shot a dog so it isn't something that is is real common um but let's see Steve says police have put so much propaganda out that nobody cares or pays attention Okay okay fine but but Steve you know I would say it the other way it's like here you have two stories you know one story is a cop doing something bad and everybody especially other cops say it's bad and criminal this guy's a piece of and then on the other side you have a cop doing something good and it gets no views because it's like it wants to it wants to create that narrative that police officers are bad and I think that context is important that yes yes this case is bad but the idea that this cop in Sturgeon Missouri that he represents all police officers who deal with all dogs that's that's insane and that's not true so that's the last thing that I'm going to say about that case um and Jeremiah Osborne says if it bleeds it leads it does and you know again I thought it was really really interesting and I was really hoping that my other video was going to do at least a little bit well but um yeah it it didn't it was uh it got almost no views I think it was like 46 views and uh you know it's it's it's crazy it's um it's it's it's it's so you have to think about it from so if you're a content creator and this is what you do you create content when it comes to police issues so I have one V one one case that does great another case that does terrible so if you're a content creator and if what you care about is you know putting out viral content content so not only do you get social media Cloud but also you can make some money what kind of content is is a Creator incentivized to put out a case that is going to get a million views or a case that is going to get 400 views well it's crazy if this is what you do full-time and this is how you make your living and pay your bills it's like the incentive is there to put out a negative story about a police officer not a positive story so that's why I think it's important that when you see positive stories of police officers that you share that stuff too um think that's I think that's important hey Kos 234 maybe try a gas light headline and a picture of a dog as a puppy yeah I'm going to you know what I should have done Kos I should have made that initial picture kind of like you said where it has it has the female cop holding the dog and it's kind of like limp and bleeding and put it out there like and and put a headline it says like crazy female cop snaps neck of dog you I bet it would have got like 100,000 views right I mean it's absolutely crazy but I didn't I put like NYPD cop helps to save dog or so I put a headline that was like you know honest all right so the next case I'm going to talk about um this one happened in Albuquerque and we actually just got the video today um you know there's actually a great website um in Albuquerque that does local news and I don't even know how they get um all the stuff they do but U we might we might put a link to them in there in case you want the full body cam on this video it's called ABQ raw again it's the best local news um a lot a lot of times cities have like the like the the the standard news but like there's also like um uh local news channels ABQ ra is one of those in Albuquerque that's really good um so they have the full um you know unredacted body cam in this case it's AB it's abely um a great body cam footage and this is a case where I do think this was going to be I'll spoil it now I do think this was a lawful legal you know objectively reasonable officer involved shooting let me go ahead and question some of the tactics of the police officers so as I'm going through this you know especially if there's other police officers in there in this or or if you just are interested in this kind of stuff definitely put in there if you think I'm heading wrong track right track on my on my questions of of some of the tactics here so basically what happened is there were two individuals one guy named Mark Benavides another lady named Adriana Gonzalez they're young they're in their early 20s and essentially what they've been doing in the City of Albuquerque the last couple weeks is basically just stealing anything they could get their hands on all kinds of stealing all kinds of property crime theft shoplifting there even uh Adriano is also a suspect in an armed robbery so that caught the attention of detectives with the Albuquerque Police Department so you know detectives with the Albuquerque Police Department started watching them and when these two individuals were exiting a Walmart that's when the detectives decided that they were going to make arrest because both individuals had outstanding warrants in reference to these cases Adriana had a bunch of warrants one of them for an armed robbery and Mark Benitas he had a bunch of warrants um not for an armed robbery but for other mostly property crime things so you know as they're as they're watching the Walmart and they're watching these individuals Adriana leaves the store first because you know Mark is a gentleman so he allows her to leave first as she's in the parking lot she's contacted by police officers they give her commands she gets on the ground she's handcuffed and she stood up and guess what happens she's not injured she's not harmed because the thing is if you cooperate with police officers you're not going to be you know harmed hurt or killed like 99.999% of the time this is a perfect example of that so ad Rana cooperates she's handcuffed not injured at all and and if you watch the body camera footage which I would encourage you to do it's actually great because because you know as she's being handcuffed she goes how did did you guys find me how did you guys find me and the cop says like well we're police officers like this is what we do and she she can't she cannot wrap her head around it like the like the the privilege that she has that she thinks she should just be able to just go around the city taking whatever she wants and victimizing random people for weeks on end the idea that like somehow that's going to like come home to that that's going to like like the reality is going to catch up with her yeah it's like when you drink white claws there are no laws that's kind of what she thinks because you know after the officer gives her the answer she asks again she's like yeah but but but how and you know the officer just like yeah like listen lady I've been doing this for over a decade like this is what we do we catch people who are committing a lot of crime that's you today um so she's in custody as she's in custody as she's in custody U Mark is actually still inside the Walmart's store so there's a couple other police officers who are waiting outside of the Walmart you know ready to arrest him when he walks out of the store they also have I think I think they have some eyes inside the store that are kind of telling them like when he's about to walk out in obviously they know who he is so you know as so let's let's get bed also armed guards um inside the store as well um I IPS security which is a local uh uh security place though they are in a bunch of different states actually a great great uh security company um armed security they are in there as well and they're and um they're in there as well so you know the the the officers also tell security hey like we're we're wait waiting for someone to come out uh we're going to take someone into custody so it's at that point that's let's take it back so that's where we are so let's take it back from Adriana's point of view so here Adrian is kind of like shocked that she's being arrested by police officers and as she's being led to a police car she hears gunshots from across the parking lot and I mean her world just just comes crashing down because you know basically within 60 seconds she went from being able to run around the city of Albuquerque stealing and doing whatever she wants to now being in custody for felony crimes and she hears gunshots across the parking lot and she she knows she knows it's her boyfriend she knows it's her boyfriend she just does because she starts screaming Mark Mark that's my boyfriend like she she can't see it but she knows and that's that's kind of a Telltale sign that here you are so I I mean I mean think about it this way like like you hear gunshots across a parking lot if your first thing if the first thing in your mind is like hey it's my significant other getting in a gunfight with police then like your significant other probably isn't a good person right but that's that's immediately what she thinks is that it's it's it's her her boyfriend in a gun battle with police and that's pretty much what happened so now let me bring it back to what happened with Mark um yeah I mean it's it's so let me let me let me tell you what happened with Mark it's basically hug life turned into Thug Life quick so if you look what happened with Mark so Mark walks out of the store a a police officer says uh says something like hey Mark you're under arrest and at that point mark doesn't cooperate he runs he runs with he runs from a police officer let me tell you something about the police officer and this is the kind of stuff that I'm going to question because again I'm not saying it's an illegal shooting I do think this is a legal police shooting but I I'm going to question some of the tactics here so so we have to look at it this way so the the the police officers and really this is more of like a policy concern not a legal concern it's more of like a policy and a tactical concern and again if you guys think that I'm wrong track on this definitely put it put in the comments I'd love to go back and forth so so the the two police officers or was at least two of them but the two police off officers who were waiting in front were both in plain clothes now yes they were in plain clothes but they did have the vest on that said police really big they had they had a visible gun a badge a body camera and they also had AR-15s slung across their their necks so it's one of those things where it's like yes yeah they're not in a full uniform but I mean clearly these are police officers right and it it's clearly these are police officers and as soon as Mark walks out they don't say police or Albuquerque police now again I think it's obvious that these are police officers but when officers don't necessarily say the word police I I think we should talk about it right and I know that the Albuquerque Police Department does have a policy that says that if feasible you're supposed to identify yourself as a police officer so so again they don't say police and you know they do tell him that he's under arrest and you know Mark starts to run he doesn't get very far he gets maybe 10 feet an officer catches up with him but like I said the two officers who are waiting there the front both have AR-15s that are slung across their neck so you know um as the officer catches up to Mark pretty much right there within like 10 ft the two men go to the ground there's a struggle and during the struggle Mark is actually able to grab a hold of the of the rifle because again the rifle is slung across the officer across the officer's neck now they're on the ground wrestling Mark is able to mark is able to grab the gun what he does is he is able to he he's able to uh uh flip the flip the safety off the gun and he starts firing so luckily the rounds that he's firing are going into the ground but still this is a crowded Walmart parking lot and again any of these rounds from the AR-15 can go and hit anyone luckily they don't no one is struck by any of the gunfire but again I think he fired seven rounds like again these rounds could have gone anywhere and um you know what what ends up happening is is uh so it looks like there were a total of uh eight rounds uh a total of eight rounds fired um it looks like there was a one shot first and then uh a seven and then seven so there was um like one shot first and then and then there was like a barrage of seven at the end so eight total um and what the officer does so you know the officer is trying to hold down and keep control of the AR-15 because it's like it's like at at that point at that point it's there's not much that you can do in in a situation like that except try to keep the AR-15 down so what the officer does is you know after seven rounds are fired he takes out his handgun and he puts it right to Mark's chest right to his heart and just like ban Joy says he he shoots him through the heart and he dies right there he dies right there and um I mean listen like like it was completely unnecessary it was absolutely unnecessary because Mark is a young guy and he died in a Walmart parking lot in Albuquerque New Mexico I mean that's absolutely the most depressing thing to to possibly hear um so I mean again I honestly think this was a legal officer involved shooting because you have to think give it right then okay so so so again like if you don't think if it was a legal officer involved shooting I'm good with that but let's go ahead and talk about it so now you have a police officer who's wrestling on the ground with a guy the guy flipped off the flipped off the safety flipped off the safety and he's his finger is in the trigger guard and he's shooting he's shooting an AR-15 randomly eight times as a police officer what are you supposed to do I I I I I don't know so I should I should put in there that they did try to tase him first so even though he's using deadly force and pulling the trigger on this gun one of the officers actually does does try to tase him and the taser connects uh twice but it he's still hanging on to that gun so again like I I don't know in in that moment I don't know what you expect a police officer to do now we could have a conversation about well what maybe police officers shouldn't get themselves into those positions let's have that conversation which is where my criticism is but like when you're in that moment if you're going to say that this isn't Justified or isn't legal then what you have to do is say okay in that situation the police should have done something else I'm good with that just tell me what that is a taser didn't work so and again how long do you let him keep firing from an AR-15 before he hits and kills someone in I don't I don't know what else an officer is supposed to do I I don't think the officer had any had any good uh choices and that's what he uh decided to do um yeah I think there were I think by the time the end of it happened there were like seven officers around him and any any of them could have gotten hit any random people in the parking lot could have gotten struck so um again there really wasn't anything that that that the police officer could have done so I like to think of these okay so so what should what should a uh what should a uh and just so you know in in Albuquerque New Mexico um there was a a shooting at a a Dutch Brother's coffee place where um three different police officers were shot in a situation you know that wasn't that far from this um uh so I I mean we there there's been some some officers being shot in Albuquerque in a situation like this that where officers were injured uh a couple of the officers were injured uh pretty bad and ended up in a lengthy gunfight in a very busy area that could have been a lot worse for a lot of the the random citizens and innocent people in the area but again so you know I think okay so what what can we do so this kind of stuff doesn't happen again if we look at like what policy and training can we put in place well a couple things is that you know the two arresting officers who are at the front why are those guys have long guns why why do they have ARS it just seems like if you know that you're going to now you can't police officers can't assume that everyone is going to fight but you have to be prepared for someone running and fighting and someone like this you know absolutely is someone who may run and fight so you know it's like the idea that Mark ran and fought with police officers shouldn't have been that much of a surprise and the two officers who were right there both officers had AR-15 slung so you know that hey I'm going to get into a fight with a guy with my AR rattling around that doesn't make any sense I mean to me you need at least one officer who at least has their hands free without an AR now again you can disagree with me and I'm good with that and I want to hear the other side of it I was never in swat I never went to swat school I was never in tactical but I wasn't but I worked in the policy Division I worked in compliance and so and so this is the kind of stuff that I that I have to think about but again I I 100% acknowledge that in a lot of these areas there are subject matter experts like firearms experts like Firearms trainers like people who work in swat who you know may have a different perspective because I'm looking at this from like a comp a compliance policy standpoint again I know that you know someone like me if I were working in this capacity I would also I would definitely rely on subject matter expert so I'm not claiming that I am and that you know tactical or SWAT may have something else to say about that so I'm I'd definitely like to hear that that perspective but to me it doesn't make any sense when the two officers the only two officers who are there to make an arrest both officers have an AR slung and again this is the kind of thing that happened to me this is a predictable thing that could happen when someone fights with a police officer it's it's I'm extremely glad that no police officers or innocent people were harmed by um by that gunfire um so yeah I think this is a Justified officer involved shooting but I'm not crazy about the tactics uh let's see what Steve says I don't believe anything police say happen without hard EV sure yeah that's it's Steve that's why I love body cam video I watched the body cam earlier today um I'm I'm you don't have to believe me of course but um I'm here on record this video is saved and I'm reporting what I saw on the body camera video if not it'd be really easy to put together a video and say Dan said something untrue here's what the body camera really shows but I I watched it this morning uh CD says why when cops shoot someone in the person is done do they continue to fire when there's clearly no longer a threat uh that's a good question and we would have to look at um a specific situation for me to answer um on a specific case but you know basically CD the way the best way that I can describe that is here's the way you have to think about it so you're watching a body camera video okay you're watching a body camera video from the safety of your own house and you go okay right there at that exact moment that's when the guy drops the gun that's when there's no more threat I can see it on the body camera video great well you have to think about okay well the officer in the moment isn't watching it on a body camera video the officer is probably in the most stressful moments of their entire life and they're trying to view it then and just because you can see it on a body cam the person dropped the gun right then is that necessarily where the officer is watching maybe the officer was looking at the person's other hand or a citizen so who who knows there could be a lot of things but and then okay let's say the officer realizes it right there let's say the same time you see it on the body camera footage the officer in the moment recognizes okay my my I see no threat so here's the different studies that they've done on this is that your I see it has to go to your brain and then that has to go to your hands or your body in order to communicate now that process under stress can take you know a second and a half to two seconds that's how long it could take for the body to basically to catch up to what the eyes see in the moment and they've also done studies they know how many times a police officer can fire a second it's four times a second police officers can fire one shot every quarter second so let's say we're on the lower end of this right so let's say it only takes the police officer you you know a second again and this is if they realize it and see it's not a threat at the exact time you do on body cam so let's say the officer in the moment he or she is looking at the exact right place and they're perfect which again isn't always the case under a stressful circumstance but let's say the officer realiz the I see it perfectly well we know from then on the low end it's going to take the officer a second and a half for you know for the eyes to go to the brain to go to the body the hand to realize it's not a threat anymore to process that so we know that an officer can fire six times in a second and a half so watching body camera video you might say well the officer shot six extra times when there's objectively no more threat well that's what I would expect based on human performance under stress that's about what I would expect now would I expect the officer to shoot 50 more times 20 more times no but two three four or five you know an extra second second and a half yeah that's about what I would expect for a human under stress to actually deal with it that's the best way that I can um describe um that and again this has all been done all these Studies have been done let's see in most of these body cam shootings though they're shooting the suspect many times it is uh not necessary to shoot that many times but I I don't know again like you have to tell me a a specific case and we can go ahead and go through it um you know um police officers have to justify every round that leaves um that leaves their their firearm so you also have to think like when does the threat stop so you know again you watching it or me watching it from the safety of my home or the safety from or the safety from this office or this studio you know is is I may see it as well okay I don't think there's a threat well that's really easy for me to say because I'm not wrestling on the ground with a crazy person who committed felonies is saying I'm not going back to jail and I'm going to kill as many cops as I can to avoid it I mean so it's it's it's really it's really if you have someone who's shooting at a cop um you know basically as long as you have someone who's shooting at a cop or shooting a gun trying to kill people is is I I see the threat is as long as that person is still alive and has access to that gun they's still a deadly threat you may you may see it differently but so it's like when does the threat actually end um yeah so so that's that's that's uh that's the best way I can answer that but see like I said if you have a specific case I'd be happy to I'd be happy to look at it um one of the cases where I think that this is relevant is in the Dexter read case where police officers shot Dexter re 96 times we've covered that a couple times on this show I actually went into prettyy great detail about why I think that 96 shots you know wasn't an unreasonable amount um as Dexter Reed is shooting at at police officers all right so the last case that I'm going to cover and this comes from Lakeland Florida and here's the thing we don't know a whole lot about this case which is why it's interesting to talk about before it happened so you know basically here's how this case came about um Ben Crump posted Ben Crump the civil rights attorney um he posted a video on X and on Instagram where it was basically partial cell phone video and it shows two police officers I should say that they're like regular siiz humans um you know fighting a guy like a knockdown drag out fist fight with a guy who looks like he's like 350 lbs um and and everyone is throwing punches eventually they get the guy in the ground um they use a Taser and they get him handcuffed um well so Ben Crump um and across the there's a banner across the video that says he's 16 y'all that that's that's what it says again like like I mean this guy looks like he's about 350 lbs I don't know if he's 16 or not he looks like a giant dude and and let me just say this first listen if you're if you're 16 years old and you know 63 and 350 lbs uh police officers and you're fighting with the cops they're going to put way more concern about your size and your aggression than they are about your age okay like that's that's that's just reality that's just how it is so and Ben Crump you know he posted this video where the police officers and this this individual are already involved in a fight so and and he writes and he writes this is disturbing we have to find out more well oh yeah yeah we have to find out more but I I mean it's like I I I don't know I think it's a little suspicious because there's a reason why Ben Crump didn't show didn't play the first part of the video so here's what I'm interested I'm interested in how did this start how did this case start and and definitely I could be wrong but I'm going to go out on a limb and here's my guess my guess is that the police officers were trying to make an arrest probably illegal arrest but if not let's call it what it is that the police officers were trying to make an arrest and instead of just cooperating this giant Guy starts to fight with police officers like to me that's more likely than police officers walking around picking random fist fights with high schoolers like my guess and capturing it on body camera video right like that that's my guess I could be wrong um so yeah so we'll so we we'll see what um yeah so we'll see what uh what eventually happens with this case um you know since it first came out you know we again we don't have a whole lot of information but what we do know is that apparently um uh the allegations that this kid and his friends were trespassing at a pool um he was they were told to leave they refus so the who whoever runs the pool called police police told him to leave they refus so police you know were going to arrest him for shoplifting or I'm sorry for for trespassing and you know instead of you know cooperating he fought with police officers and again you know when you're 350b and you fight with police officers like it's going to look ugly it's going to be disturbing um the the easiest way to avoid any of this is to um not resist arest and fight with cops so so that's the thing and if you look at it it's like yes I don't like seeing police officers punch people that's not great but like if you watch the video it's like they're not using any of their weapon systems right they're not using a baton they're not using a bean bag shotgun like they don't tase him right away so you know typically the lowest level of force is police officers just using their hands and going hands up on so again it's like if you don't like that level of force okay then like what do you want police officers to do do you want them to use a Taser earlier I'm good with that a lot of times the a lot of times the criticism is that police officers go to a lot of times police officers go to taser too quickly that that that's a criticism of police so in this case they didn't they didn't tase him until like both officers were punched and they were in a fist fight with this guy so again like I'm I'm good with criticizing police officers but like I always say what comes with that criticism I say have to you don't have to it's it's America you can do whatever you want but to me the most interesting criticism is you say this is what the police officers did it was wrong here's why here's what they should have done and then being able to back that up with law policy or training if you just say all police are racist all police are tyrants again that's boring and it just isn't interesting it like I like what I did with the case that we just did you know I said okay like well I'm not crazy about the police officers the two arresting police officers having AR-15 slung so if they get into a fight they're going to have they're going to have their rifles swinging around like to me that seems like a bad idea so I'm criticizing police officers but I'm also saying hey this is what they should do and if there's not a policy on that there should be at least one person on the arrest team should not have a rifle slung and should be able to go Hands-On you know I also said I also criticized the officer I said you know as they made contact with him they didn't say they were police officers right like and I I'm I'm citing the policy I know there's a policy in the Albuquerque Police Department that you identify yourself if feasible so again like I'm giving criticism but I'm saying I'm backing up exactly why all right uh let's see uh JoJo every arrest uh oh my goodness this is this is nutty okay but we're gonna go ahead and read it JoJo every arrest without an arrest warrant is illegal if arrested without a warrant it's kidnapping well it's not it's not so um per per the law and per how do I put this JoJo per reality it's not um again we can talk about we can talk about fantasy we can talk about your opinion um but again saying it's illegal is um insane um I I'll just leave it there um let's see uh C lady J says came and and left a like hey watch from Tennessee good good to see you um yeah I mean Jojo If you're always traveling around and avoiding the the road road Pirates I mean it it's nuts um let's see Steve says one less comment from Steve police break the law 99% of the time nothing happens to them that's real problem uh I I disagree um police officers have body cameras now every they do is on camera so again just like I always say if you can find a case where a police officer breaks the law nothing happens cite the case put it in there we'll go ahead and cover it um again that's that's the reality of it again you can have your opinion but you know opinion should be based in reality if you want to be taken seriously all right that's going to be that's going to be our show for today um definitely go ahead and put in the chat it's something I check throughout the week go ahead and put in the chat if you think there are any interesting cases out there that you that you want us to cover um or if any more information comes out about these cases you want to discuss go ahead and put it in the chat and again if you haven't already please go ahead and uh subscribe to our Channel
