Well, that doesn't happen every day. >> License, driver's license, please. That's a mighty fine-looking watermelon you have there. Two separate reasons I stopped you. Your first one is you are 67 in a 50. So, you're 17 over up on the other side of of I-8. And then, second reason is I couldn't see your license plate cuz it's laying flat on your You asked the guy that was there if you could take a watermelon. Well, this guy doesn't seem happy that you took that. Come on over, sir. Come on over. All right, who are you? >> Somebody is just stealing watermelon in my farm. He's watching. He's following. He's watching the speed. It's too much. Why? Cuz I >> No. >> Looking the watermelon. I know. You come here. I know. You You look This guy is looking at me. He's coming and he's stealing the farm. I know. I know. Looking the watermelon. Next time >> Do you want your watermelon back? >> That's fine. That's fine. >> If you want it >> I know. I know. >> or pay him for it. >> Yeah, that's what I told him. >> Okay. >> It's It's fine. Next time, go over there in the parking. I have a watermelon lot of watermelon for you. Everybody. >> Where do you buy them? Where do you buy your watermelon? Where can I buy a watermelon? >> $10. >> I'll pay you $10. >> Yeah, I know. I know. It's But, it's okay. But, next time, no on the robando. Háblame. Next time, call me whatever, you know, "Hey, I need a watermelon." Okay, call me. >> You're the watermelon man. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I know, but did you So, I >> walked up to I walked to the middle of the field with the watermelon. >> So you just grabbed a watermelon and walked out. You stole a watermelon. >> I stole it. I stole it. >> You're a watermelon thief. I have apprehended a watermelon thief. >> I'm trying to pay for the watermelon. >> You're trying to pay for the watermelon now. >> No, but like I said, I talked to his worker. >> No, no, no, no. You talk to me. I come inside, open it, pay five. No passing, no trespassing. I come inside here, here in the middle. You know the whole You know? >> He's still here though. >> Okay, but next time Okay, sir. >> You're okay? >> Yes, okay. >> Okay, cuz if you if you want to >> I know. >> I know. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Next time call me. Call the police. >> I didn't know I didn't know it was >> Okay, thank you, sir. Thank you. That guy is real nice. >> But like I said, I talked to his worker. I didn't see him. >> that's like going into the middle of a Walmart and asking someone that works for Walmart, "Hey, can I take these pants?" They don't belong to him. They're just a worker. Right? You can't ask a Walmart worker if you could just steal a pair of pants. Still theft. Right? Okay, see registration paperwork here and proof of insurance. >> I don't I don't know if I can. >> I am Frank. Apparently today I'm Frank the watermelon thief catcher. >> I don't know. >> No, I don't know. That guy says different. That guy was pretty mad. I like watermelon. It's a good summer fruit. All right, when you get current proof insurance, hold it out your window for me. If you don't do that, I'm going to expect that you don't have it. Well, that doesn't happen every day. I don't even know what to say. I I think he stole that watermelon and it >> He definitely stole the watermelon. >> It sounds like the guy just didn't want to do anything about it, but I absolutely would have written this guy a ticket for theft and return that watermelon if the guy wanted to aid in prosecution. But without there being a victim, which the guy that owns the watermelon didn't want to be a victim, there's technically no crime. But a crime was definitely committed. So normally, I don't like it when people just pull up on me on a traffic stop. This is a very different scenario where you are the active victim of a crime and I have unknowingly stopped the suspect. I mean, there's no other way for him to come up. I mean, you he's got to just do what he did. Um but I mean, that's I don't know if that's ever happened before that I can remember that I just happen to stop someone not for a call for service and you know, someone comes up and says, "Hey, that guy just stole it." And there's a little kid holding a watermelon on the front seat. Normally, I don't like it when people pull up on me on traffic stops, especially like that, but this is a very very unique situation. So, this one I'll I'll give that guy a pass. That was crazy. I love I am so glad. I'm so glad that you're here for this. >> [laughter] >> Uh I love it, man. That's okay. That's okay. You're being recorded here. >> Yeah, that >> And because you're in public, there is no expectation of privacy. We can't video inside your house. You have an expectation of privacy there. You can video me and I can video you. Original stop was for 67 in a 50. Like I said, you're 17 mph over the speed limit. Then then license plate not in visible position because it's laying flat on your back window there and I couldn't read it until I walked up on your vehicle. All right? Can I give that to you there? If you're going to consult a lawyer, also consult one about stealing watermelons. And let them know, "Hey, I get it. I we we can agree to disagree on that. I know what the law is and you are you. So, no matter where you are, you're in the valley, you're wrong, my friend. So, drive safe. Slow down. Absolutely. >> A few moments later. >> saw that guy in your field. The guy that took the watermelon? >> Yeah. >> Where did How did you How did you find out that he took it? >> Look at me. Look at the people. Hey, please. Um I have a One guy is working with him in the field. >> workers in the field? Okay. >> This guy You know the guys over there in the morning? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> He talked with this guy. Hey, do you have it? He said, "We're going to go to him." No, no, no. I don't know what happened. Talk to the boss over there. >> Yeah. >> Uh no, no. He got the rice. >> So, he talked to him and then he just grabbed it and left? >> it. Yeah, yeah. Hey, you know, I have it with a man here. You know, look at what is This guy is speaking at the watermelon in the morning. It is green. It's not ready. >> Right. >> It's not ready. Look at the Look at the guy speaking at the watermelon. It's not ready. >> So, he just took one that wasn't ready just to take it. >> Exactly. >> So, he was in a field that wasn't ready. He just took a watermelon and left. And then you saw him and chased him? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah, I like it. So, hey, at least we stopped him and he knows you're watching. >> Okay. Yeah. Yeah. >> And he knows I'm out here. >> Yeah, yeah, I >> All right. So, I came out here to the scene of the crime. We're on the south side of Casa Grande. It's a huge agricultural area. They grow cotton here. They grow soybeans and they grow great watermelons. Now, Miguel was nice enough to not press charges on that guy, but he stole a watermelon and it was theft. My dad's a commercial fisherman. We've talked about this. When people steal from my dad's traps, it's theft, just like stealing Miguel's watermelon. So, Miguel was nice enough to let that guy He said the watermelon wasn't good anyway. So, that guy got away with a with a nasty watermelon. If you would just would have asked Miguel, like I did, Miguel would have given him a great watermelon. He would have paid 10 bucks and had something fresh locally. So, make good decisions and if you need a watermelon, go talk to Miguel.
