Pinal County Sheriff Ross Staple. I'm out here at the hangar of PCSO with the search and rescue deputy teams. The Salty Skyhawks had a really busy weekend, didn't they? >> Yes, sir, we did. We had five rescues this weekend. Three of them being in the Catalina Mountains. So, our first call this weekend was in a agency assist for the Pima County Sheriff's Department. It was in the Catalina Mountains. It was a 20-year-old male who had run out of water on trail. A hoist was conducted with me being lowered to the patient. He was given water to rehydrate and then rescued out of the area and was brought to a landing zone. Ambulance was waiting for him. The second call was in the Catalina Mountains again. It was an assist for Pima County. It was an elderly male who had run out of water. [music] Was unable to finish the hike due to cramping. He was again rescued out of the area using the hoist. I was hoisted down to him. Was able to rehydrate the patient and then bring him to another landing zone nearby where he was brought to an ambulance for further medical care. Our third rescue was a 30-year-old male who had come off trail, ran out of water, and was unable to make it back to safety. Another hoist rescue was conducted. Patient was brought back to the helicopter and brought to a landing zone where Pima County Sheriff's Department search and rescue deputies were waiting for him. >> So, that was just Saturday [music] alone. And that was all in Pima County, but we go anywhere. We have the most capable helicopter in the state and we help out search and rescue law enforcement works together all the time in Arizona. But, you did three in Pima County on Saturday alone. What happened Sunday? Did you get a break? >> Uh no breaks for our sheriff on Sunday. We had two additional rescues. Our first one was in the Siphon Draw area next to Apache Junction. Two male juveniles had gotten off trail. Reoccurring theme, they'd run out of water. Were unable to make it to safety. So, an additional hoist rescue was conducted, brought back to the landing spot at Lost Dutchman State Park where friends and family were waiting for them to bring them home. Our second one was east of Dudleyville. It was two people who had gotten their vehicle stuck and were running out of water quickly. Another rescue was conducted where we hoisted a SAR deputy down to them. Both subjects were brought back to the helicopter safely and dropped off at a safe location in Mammoth where they could meet with friends and family [music] to bring them home. >> And in case you didn't know, long before I was sheriff, I was a search and rescue deputy for 7 years. Josh, what do you think about your job? >> Best job I ever had, Sheriff. I'm thankful to be here every single day. >> You're doing amazing work, all of you guys do at the Salt Lake Sky Hogs. I would tell you one of the biggest differences when I was a search and rescue deputy as to now is now we give you more equipment and we have our own helicopters. [music] When I worked in search and rescue, we had to rappel out of DPS's helicopters, which is great, but we wouldn't be able to assist other counties like we did this weekend, would we? >> No, sir, we would not. And I think a common theme in all five of the searches this weekend and any of the rescues that are going to occur this summer is it's too hot. You can't start early enough, you can't carry enough water to make it back to your vehicle. Don't hike, October will be here before you know it. It's an honor to serve. >> Come on and rescue me. Come on baby, >> [music] >> and rescue me.
