On September 28th, 2024, officers responded after a 2-year-old child was found wandering barefoot in the middle of a street. Concerned citizens reported seeing the child running alone in the roadway, telling them his mother was that way, despite no adults being visible in the area. Were you in a car? Hey, this is my buddy. He's my friend. How are you? Are you hurt or anything? He said someone did something to him, I guess. Cuz it's weird that we saw him like running. Right. I got surprised when I saw him. Yeah, I thought it was like a ghost or something. And then I saw the kid and I was like, "That's a kid?" And then we kind of like He kind of like stopped the car and he just got down and he's he started asking questions to the kid and he was like, "My mommy's that way." But I'm like, "What do you mean?" All right, thank you. I'm I'm just confused. Right. Cuz I don't see any person down there. Do you know if he's registered? Yeah, I know. I think I think it's I think somebody did something to him and that's why he was Maybe he escaped. I don't know. Let's go see if we can get there. Can you sit on my lap? You guys are good. Thanks for calling. >> Yeah. We're going to try and figure out where Yeah, hopefully he finds his home. Yeah. Okay. We'll drive around and see See if we can't track it down. All right, thank you. Yep, thank you. I'm trying to go get Mommy. Yeah, let's go get Mommy. You just have to tell us when you see where your house is, okay? Okay. Are you hungry, buddy? Yes. You want some french fries? Okay, you tell us when you see your mommy's house. I don't recognize him from this place, right? That door's open. Yeah, but the door's open. Sheriff's office! Yeah, I think the kid's out. Check the door to this room. You got to get the kids out of the house. Yeah, how old is your kid? My kid's in bed. How old is your kid? Two. Is this him? No, it's my grandson, but my daughter is here with him. Well, he's not here. He's in the middle of 14th. What? Yeah, so that's why we're here. Where's your daughter at? I don't know. That's who I'm looking for. Where the [ __ ] is your car? But she was on the couch. What time is it? It is 3:30 in the morning. All right, will you go get your phone and get a hold of Mom? Yeah. Hey, where are you, man? I'm out here in the building. Why would you do that? Why in the [ __ ] would you leave, man, and not say nothing to no one? Do you know where Angelo is? Yeah, well, the cops are here. What? Yeah. Why in the [ __ ] would you do that, dude? Why would you not [ __ ] come wake me up and ask? Why would you not tell me something? The [ __ ] Angelo was in the street again, dude. Real [ __ ] responsible. Real [ __ ] smart, man. All the cops are here. I'm so [ __ ] mad at you, Destiny. We just got to figure out the timeline. So, what time did you go to bed? 10:00. Where was Angelo and Destiny? They were sitting in the living room. Just sitting there? Just sitting there, yeah. They I didn't ask what they were doing and You want to come get him quick? >> Yeah, she said if you don't mind, I'm going to pass out. So, you thought she was staying here? Yeah. What were you doing? Are you okay with Grandpa now? Yeah. All right, let's get you inside and I got to talk to your grandpa for a minute, okay? I'll see you get laid down. Angel will go put you to bed. And does she stay with you normally? Occasionally. Okay. It's not uncommon. No, it's not uncommon. Like Like once a week or twice a week? Maybe once a week. I don't know if it's like Grandpa didn't Did you mind leaving him with him? She's never left him. She's never did that. You don't babysit him normally? No. No. She doesn't leave him here and Nope. There's no other adult inside the home? Nope. So, it's just you and then you have a a child. I have my child. How old is he? He He He makes He is two, yeah. I'm very aware of the law. I mean, I get, you know, you're not supposed to do this. Like I'm on the registry. She said that I left. It was a a legal problem. I get it. Uh legal concern, I understand from legal point. Like I am As you can tell on the phone, I'm Dude, I am so [ __ ] mad right now. This situation She She huge situation. Is she on her way? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I know. You talked to her. Yeah, let's do that. What's her name? Destiny. Destiny? Mhm. Uh hey, is this Destiny? We are just making sure that you're on your way back here. That's all That's all I was Okay, perfect. Thank you very much. How old are you, Destiny? How old is he? How old is his bed? Um he was sleeping and I left. What's that? Zoe Zoe messed up a lot while I was gone. You guys fell asleep on the couch? We fell asleep on the couch, yeah. He was sleeping when I left. It was about like 11:00 or 11:30 and then I just got this I had a feeling to come check earlier and I didn't check. I know I should have called my dad. I didn't tell anybody but Where'd you go? I just went with my boyfriend. We just drove right around and just hung out. Neither of us I come in the apartment on Tuesday. He goes with his parents, so It's kind of like we do that. You just leave your kid With my family, yes. But you didn't tell your You know, I didn't tell them No, right. You know that? Why can't I leave him with my dad? But I know he's on the sex offender's list, but why can't Since he's my family's not anything with him. You're asking your own question. But since with him. Has he told you before? We haven't really talked about it much. I don't know. I thought that >> Did this happen last week as well? At my stepmom's house, yeah. Same type of situation? Yeah, except for she knew obviously. Usually I always stay with him when I leave, but like I just I didn't explain it. But I always This is like something I do usually with my parents and we have an agreement that it's okay when I leave. But this time I just didn't. I didn't ask because my parents don't really like my boyfriend, so I didn't really want to ask to be able to go see him. Why would your dad say that he's not Your dad himself told us he can't be alone with his son. And that you know that. If I know that, then it's not something that I thought about because I don't I guess we're with my dad a lot, so I guess I don't really think about Well, it's not that He's on the registry. Okay. If that makes sense. >> Has he told you that though? Are you aware that he can't be alone? I I believe he has told me that, but I wasn't sure. Like I think I got it mixed confused if it was allowed since that we're family if he's allowed to be with him alone or not. Like I know he can't be with other children alone, but I thought because he's my father and that's his grandson that Even beside the point, somebody found him walking on 14th. In the middle of 14th, barefoot. And And the thing is is >> It's 3:00 in the morning. Sex offender registry or not, the fact that you left without telling anybody that they're in charge of your child. Middle of the night or not, what if there was a fire? He wouldn't know that your child was in here to look for him. You're right. Right? The communication about your child, right? Yeah, that's important and I messed up initially with him. Especially after knowing even just last week that he gets out, right? I forgot that. Um Dad is only in the picture. Do you know where he lives? Yeah, he's in Mesa Verde. I don't know the exact address. >> at all? He's not to be or legally not involved. He wants to be, but he's on But he's working on getting himself off. Does he have any medical issues? Any concerns there that we should be aware of that led him to have behaviors to leave the house? No, this just this last last week was the very first time that he started doing this. I don't know why. I I know he has like attachment issues with me when I drop him off or anything. Like he freaks out and melts down completely anytime I leave anywhere. And they told me that, so that could be why he's like leaving completely. What time did you say he left? I I want to say about 11:00, 11:30 or so. Your kid could have been outside for that long, wandering around, looking for Mom, and some strangers found him. But what You lucky they called us. And he's not gone forever. I heard a car, right? I know and I wouldn't know the difference, so I don't know why I don't know why I'm in this position, but there's no excuse. I really don't understand why I did Do you have any medical or What do you think happened? All right, we're going to walk back to the car. Stay there for a minute. She's getting charged with child Oh, wow. at a minimum. Obviously, I guess my biggest question is can we We got to figure out this sex offender registry. I So, I don't remember. There is something with family, but I don't remember what it is. That'd be like a lawyer or somebody question or your organization would get I mean, I'm willing to call that. We can always file a law suit. later But that's what I'm trying to decide. I don't Because then what do we do with this kid? All right, what is the What's the safest option now? But if this has happened twice in the last week We're calling We're calling DHS. An emergency removal? Mhm. And she's going to jail and DHS or Grandma. I don't know what Grandma is Yeah, I can't like The family's not safe. I mean, we'd have to call DHS and DHS can choose the place her with Grandma then. Where is grandma now? Grandma Amber? Like like my mom? Is that somebody you'd be comfortable sharing for? Angelo? Yeah. And he stays there frequently? Is that just your primary residence? If she Right. And we'll do the Yeah. Hey, you probably know it best of anyone just cuz you don't want to get, you know, jammed up ever. So, explain to me what your everyone's is a little bit different what your registry status is as far as her not being or him not being able to be here with you alone. According to law standards, it is long as there is adult supervision. All right, so she should not be left Even though he's still on the registry. Yep. Um, direct like my kids. Yep, just your kids only. Or or by law step kids. So, technically by law, yeah. Cuz it's the grandkid and it's so I get it. Yeah, we know that it's law is law. Yep. It's still law. I get it. Yep. Which is why All right, so we're going to work some stuff out. She's going to we're going to deal with her. She's going to face probably some charges here. Calling grandma to see if grandma can come and pick her up. Okay. Okay. What we talked about earlier, these are natural consequences to what you did, okay? Honey, they're not going to hurt you. This is going to be okay. This is going to be a learning lesson and you broke them, okay? I know you are, honey. I love you. Just love and learn. You have to learn from this. So, everything's going to be I'm on top of it. You're going to be okay. No one's going to let you watch. You're going to be okay. I love you. You want to try this? Are you familiar with that class? Love you, Angelo. All right, are you ready, buddy? Okay, we'll see you up there, okay? Don't be scared, buddy. Look at that. Okay, grandma's going to come see you, okay? We'll go with her, grandma, okay? Okay, we'll meet you up there, okay? The woman was arrested and charged with two counts of child endangerment.
