So, let me ask you, h how did the ticket get ripped? >> Okay. So, Oh my god. Let me tape it so it doesn't fall apart anymore. >> This is two separate tickets taped together. >> Is it >> right? And what it actually is is a non-winning ticket. >> Oh, go figure. >> Made into a million dollar ticket. >> What >> some scam artists think they've pulled off the perfect scheme, moved in silence, hid the money, and masked the truth behind layers of lies. But what happens when their million dollar deception unravels and they face the laws full force? >> Uh 17 million500,000 something like that. >> Okay. But with all the property sold off it ended up being 37 million. >> If you just keep her from not selling all his stuff, >> everything will be fine. >> Was it her husband? >> And I don't want her to sell it because we think she poisoned him. Here are several times when $1 million scam artists got caught red-handed. Starting with Ena Kenoya, a greedy woman who got caught after she put her so-called boyfriend in harm's way while chasing a fortune that likely never existed. >> The motor's mine. The truck's his. >> Yeah. >> And I don't want her to sell it because we think she poisoned him. >> It was supposed to be$ 177 million. >> Okay. and someone uh hundreds. >> Why me? >> On September the 5th, 2023, officers were dispatched to a residence regarding a vehicle related dispute. When the officers arrived, they went ahead to speak with Ena Kenoya, the victim's girlfriend, whose story was laced with a lot of discrepancies. >> Hi He came in. >> Okay. What's going on? >> He keeps trying to take Steve's truck. >> Where's the truck at? >> In the garage. >> Oh. >> And he's the one that nailed it all shut. >> Who is >> Billy? >> Billy's the one that nailed it shut. >> I want him to pick it up, not me. >> Is this the paperwork on the thing or? >> No, no, no. This is uh property >> that Steve was buying. >> Oh. >> After his inheritance got here. Oh, okay. >> I'm going to I think he left it to his son, but I had to Google where to go to get his inheritance switched over to the people he left it to. I don't know. I don't know. >> Okay. >> Who actually is the owner of this truck? >> Steve. >> Okay. >> Yeah, it's in his name. >> It's in his name. >> Yeah, title's coming. Um, yeah, we were gonna get all his fines paid off, get both of our license, get some new cars. >> Okay. >> Go to Ireland, get married, stay in his family castle or whatever. That's what he wanted to do. >> Wow. >> And the day he was supposed to meet his lawyer at the airport. Apparently, I thought it was Heathro. and he said it was uh that was the last guy. >> The officers also interviewed a man named Billy, the victim's friend, whose story was completely at odds with Enus. >> The other day she throwed all stuff out out the yard >> from his from his house. >> Yeah. And he come out and he was holding his head down. And then we supposed to go up to the airport and meet this guy cuz he's supposed to get quite a bit of money. >> Yeah. >> So we went there, come back. We had to help him out of the car. Had to help him in the house. Well, his old landlord, he come and help me get him in there. >> Okay. Actually, that truck belongs to who's it lives out. >> Yeah. >> And he'll be here in a little bit, too. >> Ena tried to put on an act of innocence, but little did she know that the evidence would soon reveal her true nature. >> Um, the last thing you said was get a restraining group, get in the property, and make sure you don't get penny that change it over. And that I was right about his friends cuz when I left him a while back, like a year ago, >> I told him, "You got to go with me. Your friends are going to kill you. You got you got to leave them. I don't care if you're here. Get a real job and don't ever talk to them again cuz they will kill you." Apparently, he was poison. I'm finding out with anifreeze. >> Okay. >> The compounds are similar to anifreeze. >> Huh. >> I don't know. He ingested it smoking a cigarette, you know, cuz he was always smoking crap on his cigarettes and smoking it or if somebody did it or But I honestly don't know. I didn't even know that happened until uh like I said, the doctor told me it looks like poisoning. >> During a follow-up conversation with Billy, officers were struck by the passion in his words and how sure he was about his allegations that he was making. >> If you just keep her from not selling all his stuff, >> everything will be fine. >> Was it her husband? >> No. And we're not married. >> Well, we we can't babysit what she does, though, >> right? >> You know, >> well, I mean, me and Steve, we partners and all of us. The motor's mine. The truck's his. >> Yeah. >> And I don't want her to sell it because we think she poisoned him. >> I'm almost sure she poisoned him. >> So, what's your plan right now? >> We're making sure nothing goes. >> Okay. >> Nothing goes. >> And you're not taking any? >> No. >> Okay. So, are you going to stay here or what's your plan? >> Stay right here until Make sure nobody takes this stuff cuz you know when they go to jail or they die and clean. >> Well, how long are you going to stay here? >> I'm going stay here until his son gets here. >> Oh, son out of state. >> His son. >> Oh, okay. >> And he blocked her. >> Yeah. >> Cuz she told him that she was selling all this stuff. >> He got mad. And so I found out a little while ago, Eddie Yeah. >> Okay. When's the sun supposed to get here? >> I told you. >> Stop. >> I just >> And he was poisoned. >> I'm not dead yet. >> And he was poisoned. >> So if I run the VIN on that truck, who's it going to come back to? >> Okay, good. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Well, you want to send the truck? We can run the vin. You mind if I run it right now? Yeah. Go ahead. >> Okay. And it'll come back to >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> What? What last name? [Laughter] >> All right. Let me just take a look at it. I'm just going to call him so I can get his information and see if there's a truck that comes back. >> He'll be glad to come see you >> cuz he's not happy. She was supposed to call the ambulance. She never called the ambulance. >> All right. Went. She said he said the clinic. He went to every clinic yesterday. He wasn't around. Went to the hospital. He wasn't there. He come back over here, knocked on door. She wouldn't answer. And he hollered through through the door. He said, "Uh, he's not at none of them places." Well, soon as he left and he got almost by Walmart, she called the ambulance hospital. >> How long ago was this? >> Yesterday. So, where did he >> I kept him to? Uh, >> no, >> I mean, where was he at when the when the ambulance picked him up? >> Right here. >> Okay. He was here. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Just don't take anything here. We'll see if we have to figure out whose truck this is before it's taken away from here. >> Well, it's been I know there was plates on it when we picked it up. >> Yeah. >> And it's been at least 15 years ago. >> Yeah. It's been a while since it been registered. and he give it to Steve and it needed the motors. I give him the motor. We was just putting it in. And then everybody's telling me she's over here selling. >> Oh, she's not going to Well, what is she going to take and sell? >> All my tools, his tools. >> Well, that doesn't sound >> I think I think it should go to the sun. Um >> I think everything by law everything goes to the sun. So, okay. But he lives in uh >> he lives out of state. >> What's the son's name? >> Uh I know his last name's Rally. >> Well, I do too. >> I don't know his first name. >> You ran him? >> You ran him? >> Yeah. >> All right. What's your first name? >> Billy. >> Billy. >> All right, Billy. >> All right. >> Armed with Billy's heavy statements, the cops circled back to Ena for another round of questioning. And somehow her responses were even stranger than the first. >> What was Riley's first name next to her? You know, >> I think the person she was referred to was actually if it's true if he mark the same day when his son was supposed to get it. Mhm. >> Do you have the title for that truck? >> You do? Can I at least take a look at it and see whose name is on it? >> It's coming in the mail. >> Oh, you don't have it yet. >> You finally went >> Who did? >> He had a couple dollars to finally go get it switched over. >> So, you don't have it. >> Okay. >> I don't know. >> Okay. All righty. All right. Just sit there waiting for buddy. Just just ignore him, please. Okay. He's not going to be taking anything. Okay. All righty. All right. We're going to go. >> The suspect posed as the affectionate girlfriend, not realizing that the cops were starting to see her for what she really was. >> I thought everybody knew. I'm sorry. Tell me anything. >> Oh my god. I guess the sun is is on his way here. >> Okay. Apparently the sun is on the way here. So >> the sun better. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Do you know the sun? Do you know the sun? >> Yeah. You've lied. >> I haven't seen him since he was five. >> Oh, wow. Okay. All right. Well, we're going to go. You guys just leave each other alone and everything will be fine. Okay. All righty. Good. On September the 13th, 2023, officers invited Ena, who was now a suspect, to the station for interrogation. The cops now had another chance to finally catch her in her lies, however difficult that may be. >> Do you have a phone number, Ena? >> No. Okay. >> And the phone I did have is was either I dropped it on the way home from getting a job at uh the motel or I was pickpocketed. One of the two. I don't know. >> Okay. When did that happen? >> Uh today's Wednesday. >> Yeah. >> I'm going to say Monday. Okay. >> Did I go I can't remember if I walked down Monday. Which what hotel are you working at? >> Uh I can't remember right. Mau >> microt. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Micro. >> Okay. How long have you been working there? >> Uh yesterday was my second day. >> So Tuesday was your second day. Okay. >> What was your first day? >> Oh, I had Monday off cuz I couldn't walk. >> Okay. cuz uh the day before uh I walked and fell out filled out the application and I was pretty much hired right there. >> Okay. What day was that? On >> Saturday. >> Saturday. >> It just appeared, you know, and he showed it to me one day. >> Yeah. And he wanted me to have a copy to make sure, you know, if something ever happened to him. and he was reading that the money wasn't cursed or whatever. He's like, >> "Every single person that went for the the Riley money over there." >> Yeah. >> Uh even this 21-year-old had passed away. >> What do you mean? I guess the inheritance had been left for other people too or >> Yeah. >> Okay. I was like, "Is it cursed and people that go after it are dying?" He's like, "I don't know, maybe." I was like, "Well, then don't go after it." How silly is that? You know, just go get a real job. Don't worry about it. >> How much money was it? >> It ended up It was supposed to be$ 177 million. >> Okay. and some on uh hundreds. >> Okay. >> Uh 17 million 500,000 something like that. >> Okay. >> But with all the properties sold off, it ended up being 37 million. >> So there was cash and then the properties were sold. Okay. >> Do you know this was from a family member? And I gave it uh I gave it to Brian uh the paperwork, >> okay, >> that I printed out to make sure, you know, I have some just in case it something did happen to him, I give to his son to track it down or whatever. >> So >> I gave all information supposed to be coming from. Who was the family member? Uh god without his phone um Marcus something Riley. >> So it was foreign. The uncle's foreign and the money is in a foreign account. >> Yeah. >> And so how was he going to get the money? How what was the plan? >> Um well the lawyer guy wanted to give him to get a bank account >> originally. >> Okay. He wanted >> so he could just deposit it into his bank account. >> Okay. >> It couldn't be nobody else's bank account >> according to the lawyer. >> Okay. >> Um and I was like, "Yeah, I can give you a few bucks, you know, cuz I was uh I was uh I think I was just broke my ankle working for Arby's." So I I told him, uh, I can give you a couple bucks. >> No, I got my inher uh my tax return. >> Tax return. >> So what do you and that's to put money in to open an account >> for him. >> Okay. >> In his name only. >> Okay. >> As the interrogation continued, it started to become obvious that her account was pure fiction and her scam activities were finally getting uncovered. So, he needed a couple bucks to open the bank account. You gave him some money. So, he did open a bank account. >> I don't think he did. >> Okay. >> Cuz that's when the lawyer said, "I need to come and uh physically come see you to write over the the name or whatever." >> Okay. >> Transfer over the money. >> Did you ever hear Steve talking to the lawyer? >> Yes. >> Okay. Did they talk over the phone and through message? Yeah. Okay. >> What did the Was the lawyer foreign as well? >> Was he >> English? >> He was English. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Was he from England or I mean Okay. So, he wasn't from the US. He was from somewhere else. Okay. >> Do you remember his name? Did he ever mention >> Richard? >> Richard. >> Were you communicating at all with the lawyer? >> No, >> not at all. I emailed him a couple times when Steve asked me to, you know, can you tell him that I lost my phone or broke my phone, but the lawyer would not contact me back. Okay. >> Personally, that I'm a uh his girlfriend, wife type thing. >> Yep. >> Uh he would like to contact you. Is there a way to contact you? you know, >> through legal means like inheritance lawyer or something here. >> Okay. >> But he never he he all of a sudden the email disappeared like it didn't exist. >> The address. Okay. And he was going to fly to my airport. Okay. >> Yeah. But he got emails saying he wasn't going to show up. >> Okay. >> Uh that there's a contestant, somebody contesting it. >> Oh, okay. >> So, he assumed it was his sisters. >> Okay. >> And then that's pretty much when he kept saying, "I'm going to show up at this time." And Steve would write down there and he wasn't there. And then you get the email afterwards that say it was uh going to come until later and then later. >> Okay. >> As far as money goes, I mean I know we've talked to a lot of people and everyone said that you and Bill you and Steve basically it was you said you know you guys were basically married. >> You had been together for a long time. >> That's what Yeah. Um, >> were you expecting that if something I mean you would get money? >> No. >> Okay. >> Like I said, I would have given it to his ex-wives cuz they deserve it way more than I did cuz they were actually married. >> Okay. >> And I understand where they are coming from now, >> you know, cuz Cheryl stabbed him, I guess. >> Is that one of his ex-wives? >> Yeah. Okay. This his first desk wife. She lit literally stabbed him. Melissa won't talk to him at all. Put a restraining order against him. >> So I don't know. >> So you don't think Steve would actually do anything to himself? You don't think he would drink? >> If he did, uh, >> like I said, I can see him doing it as a dare. >> You know, I bet you a darling you wouldn't drink that. At this point, desperation was beginning to set in. She needed a way to absolve herself of all guilt. Perhaps the best way to do that was to push the blame on someone else. Something or anything willing to take it. >> Take kid behavior type stuff. Like I'm a teenager still in his head. I want a lawyer. >> Okay, that's fine. Um, >> am I being arrested? >> Nope, you're not being arrested. We're just talking. So, but if you want to if you want to wear, we can stop talking right now. That's fine. Um, >> but I'm telling you the god honest truth. >> I don't know what happened. I wasn't there. I wish I was there. I wish I was with him every second of the day that day. I wish I watched every single but I'm not his mom. You asked for a lawyer. So, we're just going to end this now. Okay. We're not going to talk anymore. All right. You okay? are so unbelievable. >> Ena's battle for freedom was now a losing game and her lies were now out in the open. >> Why me? >> So right now you have the right to remain silent anytime you say will be used against you in the law. You have the right time to turn 411 will be appointed to you and you have the right to turn if you have any question. >> You want to lock up your house still? >> Yeah. Where are your keys at? Will your door be locked? >> No. You guys busted it open after I offered the key. >> When was it? When the sher the detectives came and talked to me. I'll do it. >> So, it normally doesn't lock door. >> Normally, it does lock, >> but since then it hasn't. So, is there anything you need from the house? Purse. >> My wallet. My keys. >> Where is it? >> My phone. >> You give us permission to go outside and grab it? >> Yeah. >> Are your dogs friendly? >> Yeah. >> Take a bite out of our legs. >> Where Where's your stuff at? >> They're nice. Right on the coffee table. Okay. >> And can I have a cigarette, please? If we let you smoke a cigarette, you're going to be decent. >> Oh, I'm decent all the time. >> I never dealt with you. So, just don't let >> Never been arrested before like this. >> I've never done anything. I haven't done anything. >> Right. We'll let you let you smoke a cigarette. Just don't spazz out on us or anything. If >> I was going to I would have the day you lied to me and I found out you would drink. >> I'm just going to grab your arm so you don't fall. All right. And I would have done it physically, not >> physically. >> Yeah. I'm a physical woman, not a hi behind your back. Kind of. >> So, we're going to have our officers come and grab the dogs. Okay. So, they're going to be at our unlocked. >> I don't I can't afford to get them out. I got to fix the door. >> You guys locking? >> No. much. >> They should be able to put a a hold on the dogs, too. She doesn't get charged. >> Nobody out here to watch the dogs. Just you? No friends or anything? >> Only one here. >> You have any friends at work that would take him? >> Nope. And one >> Steve, >> you're still okay if we grab the dogs if another officer stops by. We just don't want them to die in there, right? >> Why the hell are you holding me? >> We don't know. That's why. We just want to make sure the dogs are okay. That's the main. >> Cuz I'm innocent, so I should be >> We just want to make sure the dogs are fine. You know, anytime we take somebody to jail, we >> should be released, right? >> Yeah. >> In the end, Ena Canoya was charged with class doubleA felony homicide. She was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment followed by 10 years of supervised probation. Next, we have this deceitful couple who tried to walk away with $1 million using a forged lottery ticket. >> How that it could be two different tickets, but I see what you're saying about the numbers, >> right? >> I do. I >> Well, I'm not I'm not trying to trick you with any falsehood. This is actually two different tickets. >> All I would never do anything like that. I walked away from making like 40 grand a month like and my divorce. I just walked away. >> There's not the right size of a lottery ticket. >> I did not realize that. I did not know that. On March the 11th, 2024, officers got a call from a lottery office reporting a couple who attempted to claim a million dollar prize using a fake ticket. Upon arrival, officers questioned the suspect, but she didn't seem to grasp the seriousness of what she was involved in. At least not yet. >> So, just like I said, we're we're here about the ticket. There is a problem with your ticket. >> Okay. >> So, we want to talk to you about it. Okay. So, she's going to tell you a few things and I'll get back. >> Um, hang on one second. [Music] Okay. So, currently at this moment, because this is an investigation in reference to the ticket, you are not free to leave. >> Okay. So, we're going to talk about it. But in order to, I'm going to read you your rights just so that you understand them and then we can talk about it. Okay. >> Okay. So, before we ask you any questions, you must understand your rights. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used as evidence against you in court. You have the right to have a lawyer present while being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, a lawyer will be appointed for you without cost before questioning. If you wish to answer questions now without a lawyer present, you will still have the right to stop answering questions at any time. Do you understand that? >> Okay. Spell your first name for me. >> K I R A. >> Okay. You would just sign right there next to your name, please. Okay, that's fine. Okay. Thank you. Sure. >> You know that's just for now. Oh yeah. >> We want to talk to you about the ticket because it is a large place. >> So do you know where you bought the ticket? >> I don't remember. I went to every single place. I went like 5 million places in Deuniac and Freeport to I don't even remember. I had like a whole bunch of them with me. >> Do you play a lot of tickets? >> Sometimes. Yeah. Occasionally. >> You ever had any big wins? >> Not big. I mean, the only one I've ever won myself was like $100. >> That's pretty good. >> I mean, like, so that's kind of cool. But me myself, no. >> So, what how much do you think this ticket is for? >> I believe it's over a million. >> And some. >> Did you play the ticket? >> I did. >> Oh, cool. I did. >> So, were you happy when you thought it won? >> I It doesn't really seem real. I was I was happy and I'm like but I'm not going to count my blessings, you know, because this kind of stuff doesn't happen to me. >> Correct. Right. It's very very unusual, but it's a good way if you can get it, right? >> I mean, it would be great help. I've been through it. >> So, where did that happen? Where did you where were you exactly when you said, "Hey, look, this ticket's a winner." >> My house. Okay. >> So, so you're at your house, played the ticket. Yeah. Did you go scan it anywhere? Did you scan? >> I tried I have tried to scan it like three different places and they were all like, "It doesn't scan. It doesn't scan. It doesn't scan." So, I was like, "Okay, well, what do I do?" >> And I was like, "There's got to be a way." So, they told me to come here. >> A staff member, I'm assuming. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I called up here and they were like, "Yeah, spring." And then we came up here and said, "Okay, fill out your paperwork." >> Does anyone else have a claim to this table? >> I'm going to share it. We're going to split it half and half. Is that the guy off front? >> What is his name? >> Dakota. >> Um, >> when you came here was the other day, which is first, I I assume, right? >> Yes. >> They had you fill out some paperwork. >> Yes. I I filled out multiple papers. >> Okay. >> So, if I show you a document that has your signature, will you confirm if it is or is not your signature? >> Yes. Yes. >> Okay. Thank you. And there's a second document that they ask you to fill out voluntarily. It's called a security affidavit. And on the back, >> say your signature. >> I'm sorry. I'm sorry. >> I was like, where's it at? >> Yeah. I'm sorry. >> My name, >> right? And so I do have the ticket right here. This is the ticket. I'm not going to let you touch it, but does it look like it? >> Yes. Is that your name on the back there? >> Yes, it is. >> Did you put your name on it? >> I did. >> Okay. >> In the office here. >> Here. Yes. Okay. >> So, let me ask you how how did the ticket get ripped? >> Okay. So, it was in my car and I guess it had fallen out and I didn't realize when I got out and it was in the rain and I seen it the next day and I was like, "Oh my god." And I tried to scratch it before it was dry and it just was falling apart. And so I was like, "Oh my god, let me tape it so it doesn't fall apart anymore." >> So >> So did you tape it like that? >> I did. >> Okay. >> For some very delusional reasons, she spoke as if she was already off the hook. She was probably confident that her lies would somehow stick. >> Oh my god. I just didn't want it to get more ruined than it was. As I was scratching, it was winning and I was like, "No, no, no." >> Well, I can understand that part for sure. For sure. >> Yeah. >> So this ticket, so I ran this ticket, right? And it originated at the Windixie in Defunia's Fridge. >> Yeah, that sounds about >> Is that possible? >> It's right by my house. Okay. >> Very possible. >> When you bought this ticket, did you buy any others? >> I do not remember it. I usually buy them in more than one. >> Gotcha. >> So, it's possible, but I can't guarantee that. >> And why this game? Do you like this game? >> I just randomly picked it. I got you. >> Cuz I never get like the I usually get the cheaper ones, you know. >> How much was that ticket? >> $50. >> Dang it. Yeah. >> I know. I was like, I'm going to give this one a chance. >> Did you buy it? Do you remember if you bought it with your debit card? >> No, I didn't. I bought it with cash. >> Okay. >> Did you put the ticket? So, after it was ripped, did you put it back together like this or did somebody else? >> No, I did all that. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Yeah. And then I was like, "Oh, wait. Maybe I shouldn't do that." >> Like, "I might mess it up." >> But I I was like, "I can't take it off now." But well, >> yeah, I got you. >> Is what it is. >> Did you Did you do any other changes to the ticket? >> No. >> I noticed at the top it's a little high, meaning that somebody cut part of this. >> I was trying to take the tape off because I thought it was going to like to sign it and stuff and I was attempting to see what it would do. >> Mhm. >> And I decided that was a bad idea. >> Okay. Uh, it is a pretty bad idea. >> Yeah. I was like, let me not ruin that. Let me stop now. >> And And did did anyone else help you? Like, if I check the fingerprints underneath this tape, is there any everyone else's fingerprints on there? >> I mean, his might be on it. I mean, as far as I know, >> who knows? >> So, obviously, >> dog prints. >> Your dog prints? >> I don't know. >> I hope not. I hope not. >> I hope not, too. >> Okay. So, it might be your friends out here. I mean it his fingerprints may be on it. >> Did he put any tape on here? >> No, I did all of it. >> What's your relationship to him? >> He's my boyfriend. >> Boyfriend. How long have you all been together? >> A year and some. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, when you initially played, if you bought more than one from Dixie, when you initially >> I feel like I did and I didn't even bring them. I had like two or three of them with me. I brought them when I filled out the paperwork. But >> would they be in your car? >> No, they're at the house. >> Okay. and they were just not winning at all. >> But >> Gotcha. >> Yeah. Should have brought them. >> Yeah, >> I thought about bringing them. >> So, the reason we're here is the ticket. The problem with the ticket is there's security controls inside the ticket. >> Okay. >> And what the security controls tell me and also what the ticket number tells me is this is two separate tickets together. >> Is it >> right? And what it actually is is a non-winning ticket. >> Oh, go figure. >> made into a million dollar ticket. What? >> Now, I'll tell you how you can see that. Right. >> They don't go together. >> No. Right here, this is the ticket number. You see that number 019? >> That's a 08. Oh, >> I'm sorry. 018. >> Yeah. >> Right. If you look at the bottom, this is the ticket number. >> That's what I was wondering. And I was like, why does that not match? >> Right. >> And I was like, I thought that's what it meant if you win. >> No. >> Oh, I didn't know that. >> So, did you take this together after you saw that? >> Yeah. after I saw that it was winning, but then I saw the number. I was looking at the numbers and I was like, "Those don't match." Huh? >> That's odd. >> Did you tell anyone at the front like, "Why is this so weird? Why wouldn't you?" >> No, I didn't even think about that. >> So, when it was weird, you just went there. >> I just thought it was That's what a winning ticket was like. I don't know. >> So, you play a lot? >> I mean, not a lot. No, but I play somewhat. >> Well, you buy more than me probably because you say you're buying a few at a bunch. >> Yeah. I mean, every now and again, yeah, you know, have a little bit of money. I'll pay for a couple. >> Okay. So, that's a moderate player, I guess. >> I'm thinking moderate players kind of understand the games they play, you know, like win or lose. >> Sometimes I don't really scratching them. >> But, I mean, I was like reading the directions and everything. I thought I was doing it right. >> Right. >> Apparently, I'm there was more to it. I don't know about >> Well, let me ask you about the back part. Mhm. >> So, you see on the back part right here where the weights stay together, see how the words don't even match up? Did you notice that? >> I did not. >> When the suspect realized that she had already been caught, she tried a different defense strategy. But the officer was smarter than she gave him credit for. >> They do though. Installments and installments. I just didn't think it right. It does if you >> But no, I did not. But I to me it matches up. >> It It actually does. It's from two Look, the rips are different. >> I mean it to me it looks like it. >> I got you. >> So >> I I don't see how it's different. >> So the ticket's problematic for you and the reason why it's problematic is because you signed some documents that said this ticket's mine under penalty of perjury and under penalty of fraud. >> Right. >> The ticket's not altered. Tickets not >> I just stuck it back together. I didn't know. Well, you have to understand the position we're in. Okay. You're saying you honestly did that. >> I did. I mean, I just stuck it back together. I thought they went together. >> So, what's the probability of two tickets getting ripped? >> That That's what I'm saying. I think I'm pretty sure that goes together. >> It doesn't. >> I don't know how it doesn't go together. There's no way. >> So, we have a laboratory in Tallahassee. That's where I'm from. >> Okay. >> And we take the tickets apart and this is >> I just don't I'm not understanding because I don't see how it would >> This is 100% 100% two different tickets. >> Wow. I mean, I see what you're saying the numbers. I'm getting that, but I'm not understanding how that's crazy. >> I'm asking you that. >> That's what I'm saying. I don't understand how that it could be two different tickets. But I see what you're saying about the numbers, >> right? >> I do. I >> Well, not not trying to trick you with any falsehood. This is actually two different tickets 100%. >> I I don't remember. My brain is all the trauma. I don't remember everything. But >> what kind of trauma? of my life. I've been through like >> Well, I'm sorry about that. But today, there's no trauma for it. Correct. >> I mean, I wasn't expecting to be interrogated, >> but not necessarily. It's trauma. >> Gotcha. >> You feel comfortable talking about this? Tell us some truth. >> I mean, yeah. I don't feel intimidated or anything. I'm just like kind of shocked. Well, well, you just want to get down the bottom >> and confused >> because I like it's not about the money to me at all. I would never do anything like that. I walked away from making like 40 grand a month like and my divorce. I just walked away. >> Like, yeah, it helped, but I could care less about money. >> What do you do for work now? >> I'm a hair stylist. >> Okay. In Niceville, DeFuniac. >> Well, I was working in Destin and >> I just didn't like the vibe. It just didn't feel safe. Mhm. >> So now I'm kind of like in between looking for a new salon to work at or I was going to open one, >> but >> with the money. >> Yeah. >> Sorry about that. >> I mean, >> not laughing. I'm going to say that sucks. >> You can't count on anything, you know. >> Yeah. >> I mean, so >> is what it is. But >> have you ever filled out a check before? >> Filled out a check? >> Yeah. Or got a check? >> Like written one? Yeah. Yeah. >> What about a paycheck? You got a paycheck before, right? >> Yeah. So if you imagine if somebody mistakenly put two pieces of two different checks together. >> I can see that looking really bad. Yes. >> Intentionally I understand that people intentionally do that. >> Right. >> I would never intentionally do that. I know that's not allowed. You don't do that. Okay. >> That I know that it's not okay. >> Okay. >> I would not ever intentionally. >> It's almost the same. >> Like that is not not okay. I the way I did was like, "Oh, it's the same as cash." Like they'll still take a $5 bill if it's, you know, if you put it back together >> if it's the same. >> That's See, I didn't know that was a thing. I just thought it they still take money if it's, you know, cuz that's happened to me, too. Like, so I that's all I thought. >> Okay. >> I would never do anything like that. >> So, um, like I know that's wrong. Like I would So if this is similar, could that be wrong, too? >> Similar to what? >> So putting two checks together and make one. >> I can see where you guys are coming from. >> Mhm. >> I I see where it looks bad, >> right? >> I can see your side. >> Thank you. >> I mean, like, I would I would never do that ever. I know that's wrong. >> As the questioning progressed, the case against the suspect solidified, leaving little doubt about her role in the incident. So, whenever we sat down, just for, you know, my safety, your safety, and all that. I had looked in your purse and everything. Um, I noticed you had a medical card. Nothing wrong with that. No judgment, no nothing. >> That's expired. >> Um, do you do you do any kind of other than that? >> I take my medicine. I'm prescribed. >> What What is that if you don't mind me asking? >> Six different medications. >> I mean, is it anything that would make you >> maybe not maybe not think straight or >> anything like that? It means it's not anything crazy. No, I'm I'm not saying that. I'm saying like >> anti-depressant, >> but anything that might >> alter >> alter your judgment, might make you think funny or >> I don't think so. >> Anything like that? >> I don't I don't think it would. I don't know. It doesn't make me feel crazy. >> Right. Right. >> I don't know. I don't know what really mean. >> Well, you seem fine today. >> Yeah, but I mean just like by looking at >> Okay. What I mean by that is >> I don't think it's not fair to me. [Music] >> All right. But what I mean by that is [Music] clearly that's a horrible example cuz those match really well. >> You know what I'm saying? >> Okay. >> Okay. So what I mean by the question I'm asking you have two pieces of paper like this, right? >> Okay. Would your and paper >> would your medication anything you take or partake in? >> It wouldn't make a difference on >> but would it that's what I'm asking you would it alter your brain in any way to make you think that this right here was a good match? I mean, I would I would think the same way. Like, if it matched up and it lined up, I'd be like, "That's not the right size of a piece of paper." >> Well, you know, like, but if it really like the first what happened before like >> Well, let me let me ask you. >> That's like it. I thought it really did line up. >> Fair. Well, she just talked about that, >> right? >> This one is taped together is not the right size of a lottery ticket. >> I did not realize that. >> Somebody did not know that. >> Somebody cut the top. >> I did cut the tape. Well, but you can imagine look at this barcode, right? >> The distance >> I thought that's how it came off the roll cuz look on the bottom. >> The distance on the barcode is higher. >> I didn't I didn't know that. >> Okay. Did you cut that top? >> I I did cut the top of the tape. >> Okay. So, that's different. You know what I'm saying? >> And I see what you're saying. I do. But that's >> Did you do that to make it look like the right size? >> No, I did it just to try to see what I was trying. I was like, I shouldn't have taped it. >> I know. >> God. And I was like, "Oh, I need to get the tape off." And I was like, "This is not a good idea." And I was like, "This is altering it then." So I was like, "No." And I was like, "What do I do?" So I was like, "I just stop on the head. >> You just do it." >> Like I just left it on there. And I was like, "It's on there. It's already on there." I didn't think I was altering it. I I didn't intentionally do that. >> Well, the weird thing is >> trying to save >> all the other tickets that we look at throughout the year. Maybe maybe 5,000. I probably look at 5,000. >> I understand that. Not one has lamination or all or >> No, I know. And I was like right after and he was like, "You shouldn't have put the tape on it." I was like, "You're probably right." And I was like trying to take it off and I was like, "This is a bad idea, too." Now I'm really altering it. If I take it off, then I'm like defacing it, right? >> Yeah. >> So then I was like, "No, not doing that." >> So here's a good question. I hear what you're saying. So the point where the tape's on there. >> Yeah. Yeah. I did that. >> Why didn't you just Why didn't you just say, "Let's just stop. Let's just not turn it. >> Well, I didn't. And I thought it was real. Like I thought it was everything was legit. Like I was just saving it. I did not do >> so. >> Like why would I if I was intentionally being like that, I would not go through any of that. >> So let me ask you more about the tape then. All right. >> First of all, I know like I would not try to tape something. >> Is this from a roll of tape? >> A roller tape? Yes. Packaging tape. >> Okay, cool. I noticed that uh you you didn't really tape too good where the rib is. >> I know. I noticed that too. >> But listen, but you tape great at the top where it's not it's not uh ripped or anything. Why would you need to tape that part? >> I don't know. I just wanted the whole thing to be I don't know. I just wanted to be safe. >> You want the whole thing to look the same, right? >> No, I did not even think about that. >> Okay. I'm I'm not put words in your mouth. just wanted it to be safe falling apart >> as I was >> there was no need to tape the top and the bottom of this. >> You're probably right >> and but after the fact of me thinking about that I should have just taped the co like where >> the rim >> that's and I thought about that after the fact and I was like I'm a dumbass. >> Why would I do that? >> Well, usually we did not >> I would never insult you and say you're dumb. >> I would never >> but usually this indicates intent to be fraud. I was I I mean I see that but I would not there was no intent to do anything but put the two together and keep it safe. >> Why tape the top? >> I just take the whole thing. >> Why take the whole thing? >> I don't know. I just tape the whole thing. >> Gotcha. >> I just I just wanted to keep the whole ticket intact. >> The suspect's words failed her as reality sank in knowing that she had been unmistakably caught in the act. When you tape the whole ticket intact. >> Mhm. >> The middle where it's really ripped is not taped well at all. >> I know. Split. >> I see that. It's >> So you tape the top better than the split. >> I know. >> Why do that? >> I don't know. >> Okay. >> That's what I don't know. I I see where I don't know. I >> I'm just asking just for the truth. >> I'm telling you the truth. >> Okay. >> Okay. Will you raise your right hand? You swear to confirm everything you told us today. Sure to the best of your knowledge? >> Okay. >> The couple was eventually charged with several offenses, including forgery and alteration of a lottery ticket with intent to defraud, attempting to pass a forged or altered state lottery ticket, and grand theft of $100,000 or more. The desperation to get rich through scams continues with these fraudulent men who tried to steal $750,000 in gold bullion, but met an unexpected consequence. >> Give me your hand. Give me your hand. >> I got >> you are being charged with attempt theft. >> On February the 25th, 2025, the cops were alerted to a coin store after a 77year-old woman purchased $750,000 in gold bullion, raising suspicions that it was linked to a scam. Upon arrival, the officers did not hesitate. They got down to business immediately. Police, get down on the ground. Down on the ground now. Police down on the ground. Down on the ground. Police. Police. Down on the ground. Down on the ground. Stop resisting. Stop resisting. Stop resisting. Put your hand behind your back. >> He's older. We're good. We're good. We're good. We're good. Now, here. >> Roll on your stomach. On your stomach now. Give me your hand. Give me your hand. I got one in custody. Start looking for a vehicle, guys. Start looking for a vehicle. >> Come here. I'm going to go look for a vehicle. >> I'm good here. I'm good. >> You good with him, Dylan? >> I got you. >> Yeah. That is that guy at the apartment, isn't it? >> Looks like him. >> You got any weapons on you? You have a gun? Do you have a knife? Nothing. Okay, good. You better not. Come here. Roll this way. >> Yep. >> Stand up. One, two, three. Spread your feet. Lean forward. No, no, no. Lean like this. Good. >> How much money do you have? Do you speak English at all? Call >> from Harrison. I'm almost there. Do we have a vehicle description? There it goes. We don't know what vehicle yell at us. >> Where are these at? Check the ground here. End of the road. >> ID. The road. We got one. [Applause] Hey, where's he? >> This is his stuff, his property. Okay, >> I'll get it back. >> Yeah. Can you get it back for me? >> Hold on. He's got more stuff. >> All right. >> All right, guys. Whatever happened to that light colored van that we saw? Let's try to get eyes on that. He was walking back towards you >> from the house. Walking back north from the house. >> Okay. Where did you come from? >> Which way? >> Okay, perfect. >> Anybody know? >> Here. [Applause] >> All right, we got the Honda Odyssey and one over here. >> Oh, perfect. Got one more. >> Awesome. Is the back of your car clear? >> Just so you didn't go in the best dental hygiene. But >> I see New York. Lincoln Paul John 9186. Lincoln Paul John 9186 New York. >> Anybody else want to give him a search real quick? Make sure I miss you. You got >> Who are you? >> I don't care. I'll go. >> What's that? >> He's got some changes. comes back to a Zenway Chen 1002190 out of New York. Uh, Brooklyn out of New York, huh? You from New York? >> Not far. >> Give me a couple seconds. I'm doing a work on right now. >> The officers analyzed the situation, noting several details that warranted a closer look, and that was when they uncovered a major leap. And I got the keys. >> It's just from >> out of California, New York, Florida, and Maryland. I'll get you a full response here in a second, but he uh >> was the other one in there or the other one missing, too? >> Did he have food in? >> Uh well, he has a container. The container is empty. >> Yeah, he was definitely on the phone. >> Yeah, he's on the phone. >> No. >> Which which house did he come from? Is it this two? >> It's right here. Okay. He walked up this way. We watched him cross. He looked around. He was talking to her, going on the phone, showing her stuff. And >> I don't think he made her sign any piece of paper or anything, but >> he had a code word pasta. So, as soon as he approached her, he was supposed to give that code word to her. >> She said he gave the Okay. >> Uh, she asked for his name. I think I think she was just startled at the time. So, >> Gotcha. She forgot what she had to say, but she did exactly what she was supposed to >> here. Still listened. >> You're asking if you have two of them. >> He doesn't speak English according to him. So, >> oh, is that how that works? Okay, thanks Marson. Try that one, pal. So, did he walk all the way from back there or did he get dropped off as like the car was >> good on cycl? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. So, >> I saw it was a van. >> Yeah. >> And then uh obviously drove past here then went all the way down by us and waited and uh when they had pulled up in the pickup truck when they had pulled up in the pickup truck >> um he started running this way. He ran right into me and Paul. So, >> yep. All right, cool. I'll pass information law. >> Where they got him stopped at? >> Down here. >> Want to give me a ride? You have a car? >> No, I'm active at the car. I was either going to walk or Yeah. Go take for a walk. >> That's fine. >> There's a bag. 6246 28. >> We're going to need a second transport to an kin born in 1990 out of Brooklyn on a 2022 Honda audit date point. I want to put my front camera on. >> Get my gloves for >> res. Hey, I think he's been in uh I've seen him in CRS. >> Yeah, I've seen him in CR. So, >> yeah, I think so. Okay, I'm going to go off camera. I'm going to make a phone call to the daughter, let her know everything's good. She can come to the house. Okay, perfect. >> The officers wrapped up their process with the suspects, bringing the matter to a close. >> China too or no? >> I don't know. English. >> No. >> Quan, your friend. >> Hold on. >> Where? Where are at? >> Where was you born? China. >> China. Your friend. >> My friend. >> Where was your friend born at? >> My friend. >> Okay. All right. Um, >> you will have to stay here throughout the night and then go to court at 10:00 a.m. >> From what I understand, since I just got here and started my shift, uh, it looks like you are being charged with attempt theft. This guy's getting 53. >> Who's that? Juan. >> Is that the other guy? >> Yeah. >> No, he's 51. >> Oh, he's 52. >> Yeah. I just looked at the numbers. >> Gotcha. Can I call my friend? Ask him to hire a lawyer for me. Uh, come here. Stand right there. >> All right. You guys good? >> Yep. >> We'll figure it out. >> We'll get it done. >> Do you want to call your family? >> No. Do you have any phone calls you want to make? No phone call. No phone call. Nice small. >> Yeah, you got like all the back there. >> I'm sure everything out of there. >> Oh, yeah. We should have. >> All right. They're supposed to be 700 bucks. >> 20 40 60s. 20 40. >> Do you understand this? It's a different >> name Chen Right. Right there. How about right here? In the end, the suspects were charged with one felony of attempted theft over $500,000, but less than 1 million. In a crazier case of thefts and scams, meet Melissa English, a church secretary who was so blinded by greed that she stole and squandered $570,000 of the church's fund on vanity. >> We're going to go for a Melissa English >> four. She's got a warrant out of Nassau County. >> Saw my face on a wanted poster and like so I called $3,000. >> In November of 2024, the pastor of Amelia Baptist Church contacted the Nau County Sheriff's Office when a new accountant discovered significant discrepancies in the church's book. On April the 9th, 2025, officers were deployed to Melissa English's residence in regards to stealing $570,000 from the church's account for her personal use. When the officers arrived, they encountered a brief delay in their mission. >> Hey, how you doing, sir? Are you the owner of this house? >> It's my son-in-law. Him and his wife are inside. They have a paper. >> Hi. >> Hey, how you doing? We're looking for a Melissa English >> for >> She's got a warrant out of Nassau County. >> Okay. >> She here. >> Um, >> she need to go see a judge. >> So, she she's been on the phone with the guy. >> Yeah, she already has a thing scheduled for tomorrow morning. At 9 there's been a detective Nassau County. >> The lead detective on the case >> and they called us to get get a hold of >> that's fine. >> She's already got a hold of them. >> So can y'all call and confirm that please? >> They call us to come. >> Y'all want they want y'all to take her? >> That's correct. >> Can I ask when this happened? >> It happened uh 20 minutes ago. >> Okay. Are y'all able to call the lead investigator? We have warrant signed by a judge. We have to >> otherwise I can't provide my >> No, no. You get what I'm saying? >> Yeah. >> No, I'm just trying to understand what's happening. I just have a question real quick. Is that okay? >> Okay. >> Okay. If they said, "Hey, you can turn yourself in at this time. Why is it no longer being abided by?" Does that make sense? >> You got you got to imagine so many people. We're not We'll meet you there tomorrow. And they're in Can I handle it though? >> Well, no, no, no. They can stay here. You go handle it. >> Y'all come over. >> No, no, no. Hold on. I have to This is This is my husband's property. Can I just talk to him real quick, please? This that back half's not ours. >> Where Where is she? >> She's just outside. Just confused why lead investigator said >> that's fine. >> I don't know how this works. That makes sense. I'm coming. So, she's going to have to go to our our our sheriff's office. She'll get transferred to Nassau County tomorrow. >> Okay. >> She'll see a judge. She'll talk to the investigator. The investigator might come to us, >> but they requesting us to come pick her up. >> Said that she was here. >> All right. >> I just I guess >> Can y'all walk with me? >> Well, hold on. I just have a question real quick. Is that okay? >> Okay. >> Okay. If they said, "Hey, you can turn yourself in at this time." Why is it no longer being abided by? Does that make sense? That is weird. >> You You got to You got to imagine >> so many people have told us, "Hey, we're not going to We'll meet you there tomorrow." And they're in >> Tallahassee going west on 10. >> Can I handle it? >> Yep. >> Well, no, no, no. They can stay here. You go handle it. >> Y'all y'all come over. >> No, no, no. Hold on. I have to This is This is my husband's property. Can I just talk to him real quick, please? This That back house's not ours. >> Where Where is she? She's just outside. I can >> She just ran inside when the cop came. >> No, that was me. That was me. That was until the cops showed up on her porch. >> So, she's back here. >> Yeah, they just look small back here. and not like swarm. I'm just going to talk. >> No, no, not you. >> Nice little hangout spot. >> Yeah, it's not that. >> Is there another door on the back? There's not. >> Okay. [Music] Melissa, do you have your ID on your license? >> Why did they say I could just come in? >> 27 Georgia. Well, they asked for us to come pick you up. You got to imagine from our >> tomorrow and then they >> can we do this like and I don't know if we can or not. >> Can we y'all follow or whatever? Can we take her to Nassau now so there's not a transport deal? >> She can if she was going to bond out tomorrow >> is to my >> she could still bond out with us. Do I need to let the bell bondsman know that I'm now in Baker County? >> Save all the phone numbers. Just attorney, bondsman, whatever. >> Okay. >> So, >> we appreciate you guys helping us out. >> We'll we'll help out as much as possible, but there's only so much we can do. I've had like one speeding ticket. I've never been in any kind of trouble. So, >> how is there a bond if she hasn't went to court? >> They still They still preset bonds. >> It's a preset bond. >> Yeah, it all depends on the charges and all that. >> Depends on the charges you get. >> Or was a bond set by the judge at the time? >> It was a bond set by the judge at the time that this all happened. >> Yeah. So, when we get warrant signed, sometimes they'll say no bond. said she was here and if she hasn't a warrant, they have the right to come get her. It doesn't matter. I I know. >> Okay, let me call you back. >> Bye. >> Does she think arguing is helping anything right now? >> No, she's just confused. She said, well, she had a thing for tomorrow. And I said, I know, but doesn't matter. >> We do understand that. However, if we get a call and we make contact with the individual has can't walk away. >> Yeah. That's That's the only >> that like say it when we they told us it wasn't like she has a meeting at 9:00 a.m. just want to confirm. It was you're potentially here. Please go check. >> The suspect believed that she had a right to her feelings, but she forgot about that when she was stealing from the church. >> Well, we they told us it wasn't like she has a meeting at 9:00 a.m. It was you're potentially here. Please go check. That's probably my dumb thought because I've never been in trouble before and I told the lady where I was when I called when I saw the post myself. >> Hello. >> Temple 310 15. >> Huh? >> The Facebook thing's crazy. Like if we were like literally like Bonnie and Black, wouldn't we have seen the Facebook thing and then just called us? Like we would got caught. >> But like would you have just showed up at the house and taken us taken her back? >> Like you knew her address. You knew where she lived. Like the Facebook thing was crazy. >> Yeah. I don't I don't know. >> And no one contacted me. Like >> So there was like on the sheriff's office page there they put the wanted thing out. >> That's how I found out. >> Yeah. I I got on Facebook just hanging out here with her earlier and saw my face on a wanted poster and like so I called >> $3,000 thing. So we've been here because people people have been at our house, >> right? But >> or taking pictures of >> but you could So we live in K. >> I live in Camden County. The Facebook thing is crazy. >> Probably could have gone out to your house. You know, >> I mean, I was there until just when I came here, but >> but the crazy thing is now all these crazy people think they're going to get a $3,000 war cuz I'm on the run or something. And they're like sending pictures of my house like on all these rants and race stages. So like I have children. Nobody thinks about that. Like I'm not some horrible evil person that deserves to be like lynch mob, you know, like my children damn sure don't. >> I can only speak about like what we do for Baker. And usually if we do anything on our Facebook, it's usually reaching out to try to identify somebody. We don't we don't >> it posted it that said wanted like there's a small reward. I'm like >> I just wanted it says most wanted. >> How about try contacting me first? I would have glad they come in rather than have this. >> The officers did the most humane thing ever even though the suspect deserved the absolute worst. >> Remain cool, calm, collective. We won't cuff you up and all that stuff especially in in front of kids. We try not to do that >> unless unless you make us >> threeyear-old oneyear-old the >> um 8-year-old knows a lot >> have your ID on you in my pocket. >> All right, that's the only thing. You just have to leave the chapst out of the reach of the kids. >> Um and you'll go and stuff your >> turn. You're good. You're good. You will have zero problems. Let her have a seat. We're good. We're good. Just please stay on the bell box. >> It's in my truck. >> Okay. >> I can't. They're taking her. >> Hey, >> 100,000. 10,000 10%. >> Can I talk to him real quick? >> Yep. >> The suspect eventually pleaded not guilty and is due for court later this month for a pre-trial hearing. Still on the topic of scam artists, we have these heartless thieves who swindled $300,000 from customers through a fake pet training service. And the law ultimately caught up with them. >> In that case, I would need a lawyer anyway to fight for me. >> I love you, babe. On March the 27th, 2024, officers received a report about a fake pet training service that swindled over $300,000 from unsuspecting customers. Despite families placing their trust in the caregivers, dogs were returned in distressing states, underweight, soiled with feces, exhibiting skin rashes, and in some instances with evidence of dental mutilation. Following these disturbing reports, the officers rushed down to her residence. One thing they were going to be reminded about was the fact that catching a scam artist was not always an easy thing to do. >> Jennifer, come out now. >> Cuff her in the front and I'll let her sit with her kid till we can get somebody for her kid. I think she she's got her mom that should be able to come get her. >> The door just closed. >> Jennifer. Jennifer. >> Want to hold the hallway? Move in. Hold the >> We'll have to watch the kitchen, too, cuz it goes around, I think. >> Yeah, it does. >> Jennifer. >> Jennifer, >> show yourself. We're at the end of the hall. >> Show me your hands up ahead. Face away from me. Face away from me. And walk back towards my voice. Walk back. Keep coming. Keep coming. Keep coming. Face away from me. Keep coming. Keep coming. Keep coming. Keep coming back. >> Keep coming back. >> Front. Jennifer will be here. >> Where is your child? >> All right. >> I did. >> Okay. >> Jennifer, search warrant for your house again. >> You guys stop this. You're We're in trouble. You understand that? >> I'm in trouble. >> Yeah. I've got a rest warrant for you. >> Oh my god. >> You got somebody to come get your kids? >> Yes. My dad's coming. >> He's already in trouble. >> Why am I in trouble for him? >> I'll explain all that to you here shortly. >> No. >> Okay. We got to clear the house, but you should come out. >> Why? Why wouldn't you guys come out? We didn't have to break the door again. >> This is ridiculous. >> Oh, come on. >> I'm going to We need to clear the house. We need to clear the house. I'm going to talk to you. >> These are If these are customers dogs, I'm going to need the customer's phone number so they can come get them. >> Okay. So, so I'm going to talk to you, but wait till we clear the house. I got to make sure the house is safe. Okay. >> Oh, God. >> Why am I in trouble? >> I tried to talk to you the last time you I said I said I said, "Jennifer, talk to me. Help yourself out." And you you chose not to talk to me. And so here we are again. >> I didn't know this had anything to do with this. >> Very serious. >> This is not very serious. >> That's his business though. >> I know. But >> I'll talk to you here in a minute. Just hold on a minute. >> You want to try to talk to her again? >> Yeah. I want I want my try with him. >> This is all >> We could Yeah, we could even try with him. >> Yeah, I plan to, but by his attitude. >> Three dogs in the house. Three dogs. >> She She already told me she'll help me find the owners. >> Good >> for these dogs. So, I want to talk to her first. Okay. >> I don't know that I want to do this full blown. I want to read my unit to get the dog owners to come down the field and talk to her and go get the other one. Sound good? >> She might She might want to do it here with the kid here. >> Okay. >> She's going to give it to me. >> Okay. Collar on it. with them. >> She's going to give me the information. I'll have you guys call me and Greg. I'll try to talk to her off. >> Oh my goodness. [Music] >> This one's name is over here. >> Okay. So, kind of like the last time I wanted to talk to you. Here's the situation. That's how you're do have a lot of our number one priority. We want to get these dogs back to their owners. Okay. You know that's that's the number two priority after your son getting you. So you're his dead his grandpa's coming. >> Okay. So I'm going to tell you your Miranda rights. Do you have any questions? Let me know. Okay. >> I'm a detective with tactical crime suppression unit and you are hereby advised that you have certain rights as follows. You have the right to remain silent. You do not have to make any statements or answer any questions. You understand? >> Anything you say can or lead against you. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> After relentless pressure, Jennifer finally faced interrogation, but she was still buried in denial as if it could save her. >> Right to speak with the lawyer for advice before you are asked any questions. You have a right to have a lawyer present with you during questioning. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> You cannot afford a lawyer. A lawyer appointed by the court or a lawyer from the public defender's office will be provided to you before and during questioning without any cost. Understand? >> Yes. >> If you decide to answer questions now without a lawyer present, you still have the right to stop answering at any time. You also have the right to stop answering at any time until you talk to him. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> Now that you understood your rights, we have some questions for you if you're willing to talk to us without request. >> We won't we won't talk to you. I told you last time how serious it was and I think you kind of didn't understand the severity of it. >> I I don't understand because I'm not his girlfriend. I don't understand. >> Jennifer, that's what we want to talk to you about. So, and and I want to find the owners of these dogs. So, you want to talk with us and help us out here and may be able to help yourself out. >> I don't understand. Why am I being arrested? >> I'm I'm going to explain all that, but I have to know that you want to talk to her. You will want to talk to us. You can stop at any time. >> So, and I need to I need the owners of these dogs. >> So, you >> So, can we talk about it so maybe you can understand better understand what's going on? >> Can you just tell me why I'm being arrested? I don't understand. >> Because you're part of Jason business. >> No, I'm not a part of his business. >> We've got you accepting money for him for his dogs. Why I do We do. I've got your Vinmo accounts. >> His girlfriend. What? Oh my god. >> You're You're wrapped up in this right now. And we want to talk to you. He is our primary target. >> I'm not. >> But he's got you But he I didn't say you're his girlfriend, but he's got you wrapped up in this, Jennifer. This is all his fault. So, I don't want you to try to protect him. I just want you to tell us the truth about what's going on. >> At some point, you got to think about another warranty, >> right? Cuz you got two kids. This is a very serious charges. This isn't just the dog train case like he's talking about. These are very serious charges. So, can you talk to us? One, at least Can you at least give us the dog owner's names? >> I I don't have their information. Can't you get it from him? >> No, he Last time he wouldn't give me any information. >> I don't have Like I said, this is his business. Um trying to help a friend out. Um, this is his business. Him and his girlfriend are broken up right now. Um, >> who's that? >> Um, the girl from another state. Um, >> are you talking about Tabitha? >> Um, >> the one he's been trained dogs with. >> I I don't know. There's an a wife and um girlfriend. I don't know. >> Okay. >> I I don't know who else would I don't know. One of them would probably know. >> Okay. Is the girlfriend still helping him train? >> I don't know what he does. I'm just being honest. I don't know what he does. >> But But you're not being honest because >> what do you see? Just be honest. Let's say put yourself in in the shoes of a customer of his business. Knowing what you know, seeing what you see. Is he really training these dogs? Take care of yourself. And this starts right here. >> Can you tell me what like what charges I'm I don't understand what charges am I facing >> because I mutain all the charge. It's a it's a conspiracy essentially. This is not anything to do with me. >> That's why we're trying to talk to you here. It's why we're trying to talk to you here. You are wrapped up in it both by records, finances, obviously living with him. I mean, these this business is operating in this house. >> He doesn't live here. >> He's been here every single time that we've come here. We've sat on surveillance watching the house more times than I can count. He's always here. He's been living here for months. Okay. >> The officers managed to talk some sense into the suspect, making her understand what she stood to lose. >> Stop trying to protect him, and you've got to start trying to protect yourself. Just tell us the truth about what he's doing with these dogs. Just be blunt. >> He is nowhere close. He is in a cruiser. He might have even left by now on his way to the jail. Yeah, he he's out in a cruiser. He can't hear you. >> He cannot hear you. He won't be around you anytime soon anyway. >> But he's brought this into your house with your you and your kids and got you into this. So, I don't understand why you're wanting to protect them. I hope you think more about yourself and your kids than you do this guy that you don't even know that well. We're here at this point because the investigation is complete. Everything that we need, we have. Okay. We have so many people who have called and complained to the police about things he's doing to them, their animals, and how he's treating people. The only person who remains defending him right now is you, >> Jennifer. We already know his scheme, the whole scam. We already know it. We've documented it. We've been investigating this for months. Like I told you the last time, the only difference was last time I asked you to help yourself out and help us out and not let him drag you into this. But you've apparently chosen to let him come back here and continue this scam in your house. And that's what strugg you into this mess. So the only thing that gets you out of this mess or helped get you out of this mess is you. And that's that's by telling us the truth and telling us what's going on, what he's doing. Right now, you have the opportunity to talk to us in the privacy of your own house. Okay? If if we end up down at the jail or at a police department, other people around, other people can see you. Okay? We don't want that. We we want to talk to you right here. >> But you have to >> I just don't understand how I'm being brought into this. The co customer complaints and all what you just said, that's all of his. I don't have anything to do with that. >> The suspect wouldn't heed the officer's instructions, not realizing that she was further incriminating herself. >> So, tell us tell us what he's doing. If you don't want to tell us what you're doing, tell us what he's doing. >> I'm not doing anything. >> I'm not asking what you're doing. >> He was staying here >> and I was blindsided with being brought into the house. How how often do you see him out actually training dogs or does he just leave them in the kennel the whole day? And keep in mind, I've talked to all your neighbors and we've had surveillance on the house. How often is he actually out training dogs? >> It's Well, I'm not here. >> All you can do is say what you see. >> Do you work anywhere? >> I have a special needs kid child. So that's kind of a full-time job here at the house. So you're here at the house >> appointments. >> Okay. But you're here at the house with your kid a good bit. So you see him training >> and I'm with my mom a lot at their house. >> These are these are also excuses. By by keeping this to yourself, you are defending him. Okay. When you're here, do you see him doing anything with the dogs? What do you see? >> I guess I'm just confused how I'm being brought into this when it's not my business. >> It's operating under your roof for one. >> But it's not my business. >> But okay, it if if Well, let's let's let's turn it around and say it's a case. It's not. But let's just use this example. and we do a search warrant at 123 Main Street because we think one person in the house is selling. The other person who owns the house lives in the house is just as liable for the under that roof. Okay. It's kind of the same thing. >> Sorry. Is my dad here? >> Not yet. >> All you can do is speak for yourself and what you've seen. Okay? And that's that's why we're taking this time to stop and talk to you. Okay? We want you, we want you to cooperate. We want your help with this because at the end of the day, it is his responsibility and he has roped in some other people unfortunately like you who's going to suffer some consequences as well. So, we want to talk to you about your involvement so we fully understand. Right now, all we know is what we can see from the investigation, the records, the cell phone data, surveillance, what we're being told by other people and customers, but we haven't heard the story from you. And that's what we want. We want your side of this. Otherwise, we're forced to just stick with what we know, what the facts have led us to believe. >> In that case, I would need a lawyer anyway to fight for me. Well, I I will tell you I'm I'm going to give you my business card again in case you lost the last one. When you talk to your attorney, who is your attorney? Um I contacted what's his name? Um um my dad said he'd hire me. Um oh my gosh, I can't think of his name. Well, >> you have time to figure it out. >> When the officers posed a crucial question, the suspect appeared to be clueless. It was almost amusing how someone supposedly running the business could be so unaware. >> When you get to your turning, have him give me a call. >> All right. I really would like to find out who owns these dogs so I don't have to send them to the pound. >> I definitely don't want that. Um, >> are these customers dogs? >> What? Um, >> all right. Just to get them back to the owner. >> Let me grab the um You got the contract or something where we can find out who the owners are everything. >> He has blankets and his game system. Do you want him to take anything else? >> Um, >> just when you go back here, don't reach for anything. Just tell me what you're wanting to get. >> Clothes and underwear, buddy. >> You got some shoes. I don't know how >> um this stove wouldn't be in here. He's got a >> Oh, yeah. I'm sorry. >> Why don't you see this one? Is there three customers dogs here? Where is this? >> I don't know where that >> camera >> Nick >> handwritten tablet. >> I told him we were rooting. Is he I don't know if he's outside or got one side of him. >> It's a handwritten tablet. >> Handwritten tablet. >> Can I grab this real fast? >> No. No, you can't have it. I can't let you ingest anything. >> All right. Here's my cards. Slip your shoes on. Let's go. >> Officer Green, you want to put those to the back now? >> How are we going to work? >> I'm going to I'm going to leave your dad with it. >> Honey, I'm going to take your cuffs off behind behind your back. Okay. >> And just like that, they were in handcuffs, facing consequences they'd never be able to escape. I really wish you'd just come to the door. >> It wasn't me. >> You guys knew we wouldn't go away. >> It wasn't me. >> I didn't even know. I had no idea. >> What you hear about? >> I've never been in trouble. I can't do this. >> You started out big. >> This is a Rico case. It's in case you get a pattern of corrupt activity. his business. Her name's not even on his business. >> Doesn't matter. You're facilitating it at your address and taking money. >> So, it's business. >> Like I said, when you're when you're a lawyer, when you talk to your lawyer, have him reach out to me. I'll be glad to talk to you. >> Sorry. Come this way. >> Is there anything on you that shouldn't be He's going to poke your stick. >> I know. pockets. [Music] >> Can I get >> No, we we've wasted enough time. You wouldn't even come to the door while they're They're running. >> I love you, babe. Be careful getting in, man. It's a hard seat. What a hero. That piece of >> right there. Everything's recorded, so be careful what you say. >> Monte, you fat piece of >> glory hound. You hero. In the end, the suspects faced 250 charges, including theft, cruelty to animals, and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.
